Palazzo Roverella is a Renaissance-style palace that houses an impressive art collection from the 1400s to the 1700s, as well as temporary modern exhibitions. The prestigious Accademia dei Concordi's high-profile art collection is also located in this palazzo, showcasing remarkable works from noble families' collections of Venetian artists and the Bishop's extensive art collection.
I went to see an exhibition which was very well organised. The guides are excellent and the staff are very friendly

Fantastic small art museum, (slightly far from the train station, but walkable) Seems to have a great program of exhibitions. Saw a terrifically curated exhibition on Vilhem Hammershøi, highly recommend this exhibition.

Chiesa della Beata Vergine del Soccorso (detta La Rotonda) is a significant place of worship in Rovigo, known for its octagonal shape and fascinating interior. The exterior boasts simple white architecture, while the inside is adorned with baroque frescoes and sculptures. The church was built to house a miraculous image of Lady, and its walls are decorated with captivating artworks including frescoes and canvases.
This place is marvellous. There's a super cosy park with benches on which you can rest during your visit in Rovigo. The temple is definitely one of the most astonishing things I've seen in this area.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Porta San Bortolo is a medieval architectural wonder located in Rovigo, featuring a fifteenth-century layout and impressive Ghibelline crenelation. The area around the gate offers a glimpse into the city's ancient past when Rovigo was surrounded by marshes. It is situated in the city center, close to the main squares and near Piazza Roma, where visitors can enjoy a beautiful garden and an illuminated fountain with water features during summer.
(Translated by Google) The history around the Porta San Bartolo From a poor village to a medieval village: how did it all begin? Let's start from 920. The bishop of Adria moved to the village to temporarily move the bishopric. In fact, at the time raids by the Hungarians were frequent, which is why he moved the headquarters and had a fortification built. The Estensi, a family coming from Este, province of Padua, seem to have been present in Rovigo as early as 1117. They dominated the area for around three centuries and it was they who expanded the fortification in the 12th century. The keep of the castle is still known today by the name of Torre Donà. 66 meters high, it is one of the tallest medieval towers in Italy. Around the city, a massive wall protected the community. At the end of 1400, the Venetians took control of the entire Polesine area. They restored the city walls in 1482 and built Porta San Bortolo. The walls around the village, as we told you at the beginning, had three access gates to the town: Porta San Bortolo, Torre Pighin and Porta S. Agostino. Porta San Bortolo is the one that has been best preserved over time. The structure overlooks the current Piazza Umberto Merlin, so as to connect the city center with the neighborhood to the south, from which it takes the name of San Bortolo. In 1797, there was the fall of the Republic of Venice and the French occupation. In all occupied cities, and Rovigo was no exception, the plaques walled in the tower were vandalized by the French army, with the aim of removing any link with the Serenissima. On the door it was in fact possible to see the plaque mentioning Alvise Tiepolo, the mayor responsible for the Polesine territory in 1643.

(Translated by Google) While Rovigo isn't comparable to other Veneto cities in terms of the quantity and quality of its historical and cultural sites, there are still a few things to behold; for example, Porta San Bortolo. Of the two entrances to the city walls, it is undoubtedly the best preserved. However, arriving there, one gets the impression that the site has been neglected; the small space located directly beneath the structure (currently occupied by a pizza place 🍕...) could perhaps have been used to dedicate a space to the gate itself or the city walls as a whole (even, simply, a photo gallery 📸 or some sort of information point ℹ️). The Museum of the Great Rivers in Rovigo is a well-organized and child-friendly museum located inside a former monastery. It offers an essential visit for those interested in the archaeological and cultural aspects of the 'land of Polesine.' The museum features interactive rooms and a cloister that adds value to the experience. Dedicated to the history and ecology of rivers like Po and Adige, it provides rich displays covering geology, natural history, and daily life of river communities.
Fabulous venue, I recently was at my friends wedding here and it's perfect for photos - such a wonderful building
Peter B — Google review
Not too expensive, enjoyable collection of local history. It is quite noticeable that most photos / videos / electronics are quite old. There is a heavy late 90s vibe to this place, but that is reflected in the low ticket price. What adds a lot of atmosphere to this museum is that it is located in an old monastery. As all of the monasteries in my own country got destroyed (protestantism happened, monasteries were outlawed) it was a great bonus to have most of the museum located in the second floor hallways. Perhaps I would advice the museum to advertise itself a bit better, I only went there because a friend of mine who is a local knew about it. Even the entrance is a bit hard to find with very scarce signage. PS All the texts are in Italian and English, so that shouldn't stop a foreign visitor.

Teatro Sociale is a neoclassical theater located in the pedestrian area of the city, near Piazza Garibaldi. It is one of the 28 historic theaters in Italy and holds cultural significance. While it has charming and magical ambiance, some visitors find the spaces a bit cramped, especially in the gallery where seating is limited. There are also comments about navigating through various floors due to narrow staircases.
Fantastic venue and the staff did a great job hosting the PYSO on tour in Italy. We also had a nice audience for our concert. Dressing rooms for two conductors and orchestra of about 50 members was able to be accommodated. Great acoustics.

(Translated by Google) The performance we saw (Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore) was truly beautiful. The theater is a little jewel, but I do not recommend the seats we had chosen in the lower side loggia 20/22. They were close to the balcony, but so narrow that their legs literally got stuck on the balcony railings. Furthermore, you are seated immediately above the lights that illuminate the stage and therefore reduce visibility. If you have the possibility to choose, prefer the central seats of the loggia, the lateral ones are absolutely to be avoided.

Torre Pighin is a hidden gem nestled in a quaint Italian town that often flies under the radar for travelers. This historic tower, dating back to 1138, stands as a testament to the area's rich medieval heritage. While it may not be surrounded by extensive tourist information or signage, its charm lies in its simplicity and historical significance. Visitors can find Torre Pighin along the street of the same name, just a short stroll from the town center.
(Translated by Google) To tell the truth, if it wasn't for maps..... I never would have thought it was a tower... A bit due to inattention..... But what is true....is that there is a lack of real information for tourists such as signage or simply directions....not that there are many real historical attractions.....but the few are poorly managed.... ..in fact there is very little movement..... It's sad because the town deserves a lot!!! Castello di Arquà Polesine is a historic medieval building that includes a crenellated tower of three floors, built in the twelfth century alongside the Estense Castle. The castle now serves as the seat of the Municipality and is surrounded by a well-maintained park hosting events throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy historical re-enactments such as "Palio degli Ochi" within this picturesque setting.
This stunning castle is right in the centre of the village of Arquà Polesine. It's possible to walk right round it as it's in the middle of a green area with a kids' playground. When I was there the locals were out walking their dogs. The only problem is finding it open. From a notice outside it seems the village library is inside but even that is only open a couple of times a week. Presumably as it's so off the beaten track and Arquà is so small, the local council can't afford to employ someone to permanently man a ticket office.

The Colonna di San Marco, a captivating structure located at the end of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, was constructed in 1519 by the talented architect Antonio Scarpagnin. Over the years, this impressive column has become a significant landmark in Rovigo. A restoration effort in 1881 saw Natale Sanavio create a new lion statue that adorns it today.
(Translated by Google) The construction of the striking column at the end of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II dates back to 1519 and was carried out by Antonio Scarpagnin.
Gernot B — Google review
(Translated by Google) The decision to carry out the work was ratified unanimously in the city council of 6 February 1508; only in 1519, however, after various difficulties was the work actually carried out by Antonio Scarpagnin. As soon as it was built, the lion was decorated with gold, and at the base of the column there were depicted the coats of arms of the city and of Giovanni Corner, mayor of Rovigo; coats of arms which were removed in 1797 by the French troops who arrived in Rovigo. Around the column, meanwhile, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II had become the symbol of the city's economic ferment, thanks to the numerous shops built here. These were the years in which the need for a restoration of the Lion placed on the column began to be felt; in the end, after many years (1881), it was decided to take the drastic decision to redo it from scratch: the new Lion that stands out on the column in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is, in fact, the work of Natale Sanavio.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful spacious park, there is only one slide and one swing. But the area is large and children can play football and cycle around the park through the tiled path. There are also very large trees that offer shaded areas, there is also a small fountain and a bathroom (Original) Parco bellissimo spazioso, c' è solo uno scivolo e un' altalena.
