The Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum is a fantastic educational destination that offers both enjoyment and learning opportunities. The museum has a long history, dating back to 1793, and plays an important role in keeping the local heritage alive for future generations. One of the highlights is the stoneground wholemeal flour that they sell, which showcases their dedication to preserving traditional methods. The staff are known for their friendliness and helpfulness, making visitors feel welcome.
Interesting piece of history, and working. Get your timing right, an hour before low-tide, and see it in action. Well worth the money to see inside a piece of medieval engineering.

Nice little place to have a look around. Very interesting, great seeing the mill working. Amazing craftsmanship.
Julie N — Google review
Wonderful exhibitions and a free guided tour by a volunteer who is actually a miller. Much more complex than I realised.
Dianne R — Google review
Friendly knowledgeable staff, very interesting sea water wheel driven flour mill. We bought a bag of their flour!
Chris T — Google review
A great little museum in a lovely spot, we visited with small children (3 year old and 6 year old) and it is possibly the most engaged they have ever been in a museum. There is a surprising amount and variety of child focused activities inside, but this does not take over, there is still plenty for grown ups too.
Paul S — Google review
Great place to visit in Woodbridge. We were greeted by a helpful volunteer who gave us some information and started a video for us. We enjoyed the glimpse into the past life of the mill and the hard work and long hours of the miller. I enjoyed learning some of the language associated with the craft of milling which has been all but lost to us. Details such as how we acquired the expression’rule of thumb’ were particularly enlightening. Worth a visit.
Sue C — Google review
Lovely little mill, really informative with lots of information and a children's trail too
Emma G — Google review
WOW! my brother loves this place. He LIVES for all of the grainy goodness. we visit many times and every experience is something new. I personally love to learn about all the different types of grain. activities for children are always so good too! we will bring our kids probably next year as they will defo enjoy

Located on the outskirts of Woodbridge in Suffolk, National Trust - Sutton Hoo is a significant historical site that offers a glimpse into Anglo-Saxon history. The estate features an Edwardian house and exhibitions showcasing the excavated Anglo-Saxon burial site, including a ship burial chamber reconstruction. Managed by the National Trust, visitors can explore the exhibition hall with an intriguing video, learn about the fascinating story of Anglo-Saxon pagan kings, and participate in guided tours during summer.
This National Trust property is brilliant for the incredible historic value of the mighty Anglo Saxon Royal Burial ship site, and the excellent exhibits. Do the free tour with Monty very good and so informative. There are beautiful woodland walks. An all day experience and a credit to the staff, and National Trust .
Su M — Google review
We were inspired to visit by actor Tony Robinson, whose enthusiasm in the Time Team Sutton Hoo dig series is infectious. That said, our visit was not as excellent as we had hoped, and the reason was mostly how the Sutton Hoo story is told. Although there is significant East Anglian historical information online, and the National Trust web pages provide contextual information in manageable chunks, the story told onsite is not as seamless. Indeed, it’s a bit fragmented, with a bit found here, and a bit there. Moreover, we were unable to find much information during our visit about the modern excavations that create the storyline for the Time Team series. Other reviewers have mentioned that a guided tour brings many of these pieces together, but none was available when we visited. We found Tranmer House to be quite interesting because of the information available and the somewhat innovative display methods being used, but it was a bit of a challenge to follow the storyline because there is no directional advice in the rooms. The highlight of the house displays is the collection of 1939 dig photographs by amateur photographers Mercie Lack and Barbara Wagstaff. Similarly, the High Hall exhibition space near the main entrance is designed to be explored in one direction, but without any indication of where one should start, we were halfway around in the opposite direction before we sensed we were seeing things in the wrong order. The hall’s current exhibition “The Dig: A Story Unearthed,” which explores the making of the 2025 Netflix film, is excellent. As for the mounds themselves, they’re pretty unremarkable to see, but the walk to and from was nice. So, our summary: Definitely go, but read up before your visit, and arrange a guided tour if possible. Our visit was about 2.5 hours.
David R — Google review
Well worth the visit if your holidaying in this area. Time team were there too filming a dig. Edith pretty home is lovely, and the grounds are a must to walk. The mounds are explained when u go up the tower to observe.
Billie G — Google review
Such a great day out! Right from the friendly staff in the ticket office, to the very knowledgeable guides around the site, everything is well organised. The tour of the mounds is fascinating, the house is also steeped in interesting items and the "Dig" exhibition is amazing. Don't miss the lovely walk down to the river through the forest and fields of sheep. Back to the cafe for reasonably priced delicious food and drinks. The fresh cream tea was perfect. Thanks to all for making the day special.
Neil A — Google review
An interesting destination and quite different from other National Trust sites. The car park is fairly small but there us an overflow car park available. The main exhibition hall and cafe and shop are next to the car park, which is really handy if anyone in your group has mobility issues. It's a short walk to the house, which has some interesting displays and activities. The burial mounds are about 10 minutes beyond the house. Overall I would say this is very family orientated, with lots of activities for children but if you aren't a member the price is quite high compared to other NT properties.
Paul H — Google review
Excellent exhibition and staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Great facilities, lovely walks and views, with viewing tower of burial mounds and paths surrounding. Nice walk down to the river Deben with views over Woodbridge.
Spencer W — Google review
Very kind and helpful guides. They looked after us well and supplied an all-terrain wheelchair for one of our party to use. Quite a large site with several areas to discover. The burial mounds, whilst archaeologically important, are a tad underwhelming. The exhibition Hall is well laid out with both original and reproductions and the guide there was very helpful. Of course the shop and cafe are very good as I now come to expect.
Gary K — Google review
We arrived about 9:50 and there were 4 cars ahead of us in the queue, and they opened the gates bang on 10am. For the first hour it was quiet and peaceful; everything set out for the kids this summer holiday was accessible and colourful, and once the exhibition hall was opened, you had an uninhibited chance to see the artefacts. Staff were friendly and we were lucky with the weather too. It was our first visit as we holidayed in the area, and when my boys are older, I think they will enjoy it a lot more.

The Woodbridge Museum, recently relocated to a prominent spot near the marina, offers a captivating experience with its charming exhibits that showcase the history of Woodbridge and its surroundings. The museum's collection includes fascinating photographs depicting life in Woodbridge over the past century. One notable aspect is that admission to this small yet captivating museum is free. It is highly recommended not to miss out on visiting this place as there is so much to see and learn from the various displays.
A small museum about the history of Woodbridge and its people, the staff were very informative and passionate, a good idea to purchase a heritage trail map to see the locations

Interesting small museum showing how the town and surrounding area grow over the years. Plus information on historical events and finds. Set by the estuary and around the refurbished dockyards.
Richard T — Google review
We popped in to have a look as next to the Longshed. Free to enter but you can donate. The man at the entrance was very welcoming, spent about 20 minutes having a look

Free to enter, with some fascinating insight into the town. Personally was amazed to hear about their being a napoleonic army encampment as big as the town. Small enough to be easy to take in, without having to rush.
Stuart C — Google review
Visited here a few weeks ago and was impressed by the masses of knowledge gained and items on show. Didn't buy anything from the shop, but make a donation online. One thing found out since, is there is no online shop, which I think may generate more funds for the charity as I would have ordered something.

We had our wedding at The Shire Hall back in October 2018. It was a wonderful venue for a smaller, intimate ceremony. The staff were lovely and really helpful. Happy memories.

The Cherry Tree Inn is a charming 17th-century pub located near the center of Woodbridge, offering traditional tavern interiors with wooden beams and open fires. The inn features a children's play area and a beautiful beer garden with lawn and patio seating. It also provides accommodation in a separate building at the rear of the car park. The warm and friendly atmosphere, along with a superb range of cask ales and delicious traditional pub food, makes it an enchanting stop for visitors.
We stayed at the Cherry Tree whilst exploring Suffolk and visiting Sutton Hoo which is a short drive away. The room was lovely, spacious and good facilities. The breakfast is fantastic, quality ingredients cooked to order. We had an evening meal too which was also good. Great pub, good beer and nice outdoor area. Would definitely recommend and Woodbridge is definitely worth a visit

Great Saturday lunchtime meal with friends. We ate outside in a lovely beer garden. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Food was lovely. Dog friendly. We'll be back. 10/10
Mike H — Google review
Very disappointed in service & quality of food. Chips & onion rings very overcooked, we weren’t informed it was smoked ham which was also grey in colour! Staff when informed were not interested. No refund or reduction in price despite plates showing evidence that two thirds of the meals hadn’t been eaten. Pub mostly empty so no excuse for lack of food & service quality! Won’t be returning.

Stopped at The Cherry Tree Inn in Woodbridge for lunch and a pint, absolutely fantastic. Proper old-school pub charm, great food, and a well-poured pint. The kind of place where you instantly feel at home, whether you're a local or just passing through. After indulging, you can walk it off with a lovely riverside stroll down by the Deben. Perfect combo: good grub, good beer, and a scenic walk to justify it. Will definitely be back!

Works Christmas dinner for 2 here at this evening using the Christmas menu. Beef brisket times two followed by Turkey Christmas dinner and vegetarian haggis completed with Christmas pudding and a chocolate & mint concoction. The table looked absolutely beautiful on rival with candles and a centrepiece. Service was efficient and friendly. Food was delicious and plentiful. Very good value for money thoroughly well-deserved five stars. I highly recommend this venue. Diners around us were eating from the ordinary menu which looked equally delicious accompanied by their pet dogs who were made very welcome. Lovely friendly atmosphere.

Military Museums
Nestled within the historic grounds of the former Bentwaters airbase, the Bentwaters Cold War Museum offers a unique glimpse into military history. This remarkable museum is housed in a hardened command post that once served the United States Air Force until its closure in 1993. As one of the few such facilities open to visitors in both the UK and Europe, it provides an engaging experience for families and history enthusiasts alike.
Located in Suffolk UK near Rendlesham area this a museum that shows and hold events that happened during the Cold War decades following World War 2. The staff are incredible, super friendly and very knowledgeable of the exhibits shown at the museum. There a planes, and jets outside to view as well as reading quite informative details and history of the items on display and staff are more than happy to answer any questions you have. I would recommend visiting Bentwaters Cold Wae Museum for a nice afternoon with the family. There is also a nice American style cafe there that sell excellent cakes, treats, snacks and drinks at very excellent prices.
Daniel T — Google review
Great museum! Very informative and was great to meet veteran master sergeant Hale who gave a great talk on the control room and how everything operated when it was operational, so much to take in. Staff are really welcoming and so kind, food was really nice and highly recommend a banana milkshake on the way out. Planes outside are in great condition, even some of the ones waiting for restoration (added tour for them). Highly recommend!!
Natt B — Google review
This is another “ Must See” attraction for all connected with aviation during the Cold War period. Although I have made a visit to the museum a number of years ago, this time was enhanced by the ability to make a “paid for” group visit to the restoration HAS site on a different area of the airfield. This is a very worthwhile experience for any enthusiast to visit. Enhanced by the exceptionally experienced volunteers who were eager to share their knowledge. The main site housing the “bunker” remains an outstanding treasure trove of memorabilia, and that’s just the volunteers !! To round off, the Diner which is part of the entrance is fantastic value and again enhanced by the friendly and communicative staff volunteers. Understandably, this venue is only open on a condensed period of opening dates. Do check and then go if you can. A very informative experience awaits in respect of an exceptionally important part of our defensive history.

My dad was in the USAF and we were stationed there when I was a child in the 80s. My dad gave me his patches after he retired. I also retired from the USAF and now combined his patches with mine. Seeing this place online is awesome. Perhaps I will visit in the future and reminece my childhood.

Great visit, really friendly staff and interesting exhibition , good cafe/coffee shop perfect in conjunction with a walk on the rendlesham UFO trail 10 minutes away, AND who doesn't love to see an alien thrown in with an exhibit 🤯

I arrived there as a disabled motorcyclist and had no carer with me. I am diabled with M.S and I only had a manual wheechair with me. I knew without a carer to help me it would be extremely difficult and emailed them the day before to explain my problem. I never got a reply. I was going to their special ops day and i really wanted to see it. I had to travel over 80 miles to get there which was hard enough for me but when i got there i was told to park in a disabled Car park that was quite a bit away from the museum etc. Ok if you had a carer or electric scooter. There is no reason why they couldnt have let me park a lot closer on a motorcycle. The man on the car park was as helpful as he could be but he wasnt in charge. I did in the end get to the museum and was not happy with the stuggle i had to get around everywhere so i complained to the man at the entrance to the museum and he was not helpful and was not bothered that i had to struggle. I said to him i will pay and go and have a look. His reply was 'tell you what why dont you keep your money and go away'. I was shocked and all I could do after that was make my way back to my bike and then ride the over 80 miles back home. I made a huge effort to visit them and put myself through an awful lot of pain and difficulty to support them. I could never have beleived i could have been treated like that but i was. I really wated to see every thing and i saw nothing after that and got treated in a digraceful way. I will never be able to do that again it was a one off attempt i made. So sad!

During my recent visit to Deben Leisure Centre, I was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. The showers offered a refreshing hot water flow, and the cleanliness of the facilities stood out. Additionally, I enjoyed some time in the spa area, which was fully operational and added to my satisfaction. It’s a great spot for relaxation and rejuvenation!
Only wanted to sign up for the month. Called up to cancel which is normally a pain and spoke to Alice who was lovely and sorted the whole thing out in less than 5 mins. Great customer service, I’ll defo be coming back when 👍🏻
Alexander F — Google review
The newly revamped gym offers a good range of equipment, looks good and has more than most people would need. The sauna and steam room are great. The pool is a good size and well maintained. What lets everything down is how dirty and wet, (a swimming costume dryer would be a great addition), the changing room floor is. It doesn’t look like it has had a proper clean for a very long time. It really does bring down the whole look and feel of the place and isn’t hygienic at all. Unfortunately half the toilets do not flush properly either. If these two things could be addressed, then the centre is definitely worth 4/5 stars for the value and facilities it provides.
Helen O — Google review
Our experience started off well however declined drastically mainly due to our youngest sons swimming lessons having no continuity of teachers - With the last instructor being rude to a point where our son didn’t want to swim anymore and was visually upset . Upon speaking to reception and asking to cancel our membership not a care was given nor asked if there was anything that could be done to help us etc The lack of customer care and service is truly shocking Facilities wise we only used the pool , changing rooms and viewing area Pool was great Changing rooms constantly dirty toilets usually out of order Viewing for swimming was good

It’s a classic local leisure centre. Has got a pool and a gym. We paid £10 for a day pass for the gym, not too bad value. Was decently well equipped for a good workout but missing a few things. Not a massive space but fine if you want a workout.
Ollie F — Google review
My first visit was very successful. The water in the shower is hot, everything is clean, the SPA is working. I am satisfied.
Nataliia O — Google review
Atrocious place, the gym gets worse every time I visit. Cycling machines are knackered, one feels like it rumbles when you're on it, another one screen crashed on me halfway through a workout and lost all progress (on more than one occasion). The clips that hold your feet in on the cycle machines are so worn they don't tighten, all three of them. Air con non existent near the cycle machines that have been moved infront of the biggest window in the gym, summer will be fun if I decide to continue to have my hard earned cash prised from my clutches by this place (I'm only currently staying due to close proximity for work, it's not even good value for money compared to other gyms) The machines are way too close together; you're practically stepping around people who are working out. Paper towel dispensers are often empty and are clearly not checked when I've had to ask to have them refilled 4 times in the last six months, even then there's a lack of urgency to do anything about the situation. The lack of care for hygiene is disturbing. Three rowing machines directly under air con, only one or two seem to be used on any occasion, I've witnessed other complaints to staff about the new layout (which must've been designed by the producers of the crystal maze or takeshi's castle) of the gym and nothing has changed. To top it off, half of the mens locker room keys have bands missing and more often than not the locker room smells of urine. This is all since the "upgrade" that the gym had in december, for which it was shut for two weeks and again for additional days (for which no compensation was awarded to gym members) I used to enjoy this place when I first came, and quite frankly I cannot recommend this place to anyone. I'm considering swapping to other gyms in the area as this simply cannot be taken as a serious facility to work out in, infact given some of the hygiene concerns, you're more likely to come away less healthy than when you entered. Come on deben leisure centre, sort it out. I'd like to think I'll be able to update or remove this review in the future. Time will tell.
Lloyd W — Google review
Terrible experience with booking for inflatable family swim. Booked on line when arrived was informed there’s a safety briefing 15minutes before the season starts. This wasn’t clear on website while booking so was refused entrance after waiting all day for this and getting stuck in traffic trying to get there arrived 1min late with also struggling to get service to pay for parking. Reception extremely unpleasant. When and looked back on booking site for this information I’ve missed and it’s extremely badly notified on there site and easy to skip isn’t even information after you’ve paid that you need to be there 15mins before. Shocking with one very upset child. Waste of a day that a refund just doesn’t cover. Lost my business…

Buttrum's Mill, situated in a charming location in Woodbridge, is highly recommended for a visit. The guide is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, making the experience enjoyable. Climbing up and down the stairs adds excitement to the visit. However, it should be noted that the upper floors might not be suitable for those with mobility issues or who are easily nervous because they resemble ladders more than proper stairs.
I thoroughly enjoyed and would reccomend a visit to Buttrum's Mill. Located in a lovely setting within Woodbridge. Our guide was friendly, warm and knowledgeable, and it was thrilling ascending and descending stairs. A word of warning, they are little more than ladders, so if of a nervous disposition, or have mobility issues the upper floors are best avoided. The windmill has recently been taken over by a lovely young family, who are bringing a new enthusiasm to this windmill. At present it has limited opening hours so check website.

Rendlesham Forest, located near Orford in Suffolk, is a sprawling 1,500-acre woodland offering various recreational activities such as walking, cycling, and orienteering. The forest gained notoriety for the infamous UFO sighting in 1980 and has since become a popular destination for those intrigued by extraterrestrial mysteries. Visitors can explore the area through different walking trails, including the UFO trail that delves into the details of the renowned incident.
Visiting the area had to go and do the UFO trail, it's an easy trail to follow, very child friendly. We all had a great walk. Listening to birds and identifying them on an app. The UFO was interesting just so sad that it's been graffitied. The forest is beautiful

We went there to see one of the most famous UFO landing sites in the United Kingdom, and we end up being very disappointed. However, the beauty of Rendlesham Forrest compensated us exponentially after we took almost two hour long walk deep into its richness. Thank you! 🙏🏼

We did the Phoenix (Pink) route - 3 mls. but my phone measured it as 3.43 mls. Very well sign-posted, no danger of getting lost or taking a wrong turn. Lovely wide, flat trail through the forest - very quiet. Can totally recommend.

I must say, Rendlesham forest did not disappoint, whilst wandering around the forest we did spot a strange looking craft in a clearing on one of the trails, see photo, it had some unusual markings reminiscent of graffiti often found on abandoned or vacant shop fronts we see. Fancy coming all that way across the universe, leave your space ship for two seconds, only to come back and find it covered in graffiti, I would imagine the occupants must have been hoping mad, and would quite rightly complain to the local council on the way they have been treated. Apart from that Rendlesham forest is an incredibly beautiful and a fun place for all ages, great scenery and forest just waiting to be explored, clearly the Aliens must have thought so, otherwise they wouldn’t have come all that way. Enjoy.

Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk is a tranquil haven for walkers, cyclists, and families. Its leafy trails, play areas, and picnic spots invite exploration and relaxation. With a hint of mystery from its famous UFO lore, it blends natural beauty with intrigue—perfect for a peaceful day out.

Very peaceful walk around the forest both on the UFO path and extended around other tracks

Lovely forest for a day out with extensive trails, varying in their length. The UFO trail was the shorter of the 2 we did and had the most foot traffic. The Tang trail was quite long, gorgeous route and very quiet which was nice! There are so many different paths and trails cutting through the forest, and you can easily slip onto the common and heathland nextdoor, definitely could end up walking for hours on end. Playground for children, plenty of picnic tables, and an open space for kids to run around. Toilets were decent, just 3 total so may get busy during peak times. Coffee hut on site. Parking is card or RingGo, £5 ish for a whole day or £3 for 2 hours. Staff are also very friendly and helpful, I can't thank the parking attendant enough who helped me when I got a flat tyre! One of our new favourite spots for a long dog walk I think!

During a weekend trip to Suffolk, we stumbled upon Lavenham Falconry and managed to book an exciting Junior Falconry Experience for our 7-year-old daughter. This place is truly remarkable. Tim, the knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, patiently answered all our questions in a relaxed and unhurried manner. Our daughter had a fantastic time being up close with various birds such as a barn owl, American Kestral, and Harris's Hawk as they flew around her and landed on her glove.
I bought the half day experience plus a spectator for a birthday present for my partner. Although I was only a spectator , I was virtually as close to the action as my partner. What an amazing experience for both of us, getting to see the most spectacular birds with amazing knowledge from Tim who taught us so much about each bird. Tim took the time with each person, explaining each bird and his range of knowledge was absolutely incredible, he’s an asset, as all the staff we met today. Thank you for making it a wonderful experience

We had an amazing morning. I booked a half day experience for my partner's birthday and it was fabulous. Joanne and Steve were welcoming, knowledgeable and just brilliant. Such good value, learnt loads, with some amazing birds. I can't recommend enough and we will definitely be back! 🙂

We were given a two hour owl experience from our family for our Ruby Wedding anniversary and we couldn’t been more thrilled. The staff are very knowledgeable and shared stories and facts in an interesting way. The owls are just magnificent! There was just one other couple that were doing the same thing and so we had lots of time with the birds. I cannot recommend this place highly enough- we are looking forward to meeting the raptors soon….

I was lucky enough to receive a 3 hour Falconry experience for a 'certain' birthday. My husband also joined me. I can't begin to describe how much we enjoyed ourselves. It was a privilege to get close to these magnificent birds and get an idea of their awesome capabilities. Steve and Jo were brilliant. Their knowledge and enthusiasm is second to none. They made the whole experience fantastic. Thank you Lavenham Falconry.

We booked a hour experience as a birthday gift. My brother was flew a barn owl and tawny owl both very beautiful and very well trained. We learnt lots about the owls and other birds of pray, you could tell that it was not just a job but a very big passion to the guy(sorry forgot name) who we were with. Would definitely recommend.

Lavenham Falconry is a fantastic experience for the whole family. We purchased the Raven Experience which is easy to buy online. Steve and his staff are great at communication on emails and have a wealth of knowledge answering questions about the birds. Their passion for the birds comes across very well and the birds themselves look in great condition. This is our third trip over to see them and every time we've been impressed.

Parham Airfield Museum, an original wartime control tower, houses a collection of Allied airmen and British resistance memorabilia. Despite its small space, the museum is filled with numerous artefacts and volunteers/staff who are friendly. It offers an intriguing display of 'wreckology' - the remains of locally excavated aircraft - accompanied by poignant stories. The museum consists of two parts: the memorial museum for the 390th BG and the British Resistance Organisation Museum, both featuring captivating exhibits.
This is a small world war II museum about 10 minutes drive off the A12. Opening times are limited as staff are voluntary, but there is a lot to see, takes about a couple of hours to look around properly. The volunteer staff here are very helpful and answer a lot of questions. Parking and entry is free, tea coffee and snacks are available to buy. Worth a visit if you're interested in world war II.

A fantastic museum, showing the history of the airbase during WW2, it is well worth a visit and is staffed with really friendly volunteers. There is plenty to see and is full of information and displays explaining how important the base and the surrounding area was in the war, there is a memorial to the crew men and pilots who didn't make it back, it's very sobering to realise how much people sacrificed to keep the country safe.
Ron C — Google review
Even amongst a pretty high standard, of historic airfield/museums in East Anglia, this one is superb. Not only much larger than a typical example, it is well displayed and explained throughout. A huge bonus is the addition of the also fantastic British Resistance Museum, which covers what was a very secret WW2 topic until the 1990s. And the volunteer guides are great. The only thing that would make it better is if you could get at least one gluten-free snack/ cake in the otherwise clean, brightly lit and friendly cafe.
Mark G — Google review
Well, what a hidden treasure this is! My husband, two teenage boys and elderly parents went to this absolute gem of a museum. Surrounded by Suffolk countryside, it may not look like much from the outside, but like the Tardis, it holds a mind-boggling amount. I don't think I've ever seen so much information and so many original artefacts crammed in to a space. From uniforms, to medals, to radio equipment and weapons. The most impressive part was the sheer amount of parts recovered from WW2 aircraft. They also had a replica of an operational base for the British Resistance organisation. In the event of a German invasion, five to eight ordinary local men were expected to live underground, emerging at night to destroy infrastructure. Their life expectancy was two weeks. You can also climb up to the roof, to the control tower, with its 360° view. The most effective part of the museum was the human stories, told via the displays, but also through the very knowledgeable volunteers. See if you can find a volunteer who can tell you the story of the bomber crew, the land girls and the tree, at Grundisburgh... It's a tribute to the museum that while we were there, a horde of very young (3/4 years?) children arrived, who seemed very interested. One of the volunteers apologised to me that they were short-staffed that day; didn't seem that way to me. Every way you went, there were multiple volunteers, all keen to share their knowledge and answer any questions. I cannot complete this review without mentioning the cafe: airy, spacious and pleasant, it has a good array of snacks (no hot lunches, they can't be amazing at everything), the mugs of tea are fantastic and it's such good value! At the time of writing, decent sized cakes for £2 and tea and coffee for £1! My 16 year old (who has never expressed an interest in WW2), declared it the best war museum he'd ever been to... and it's free!
Jenny B — Google review
Incredible two museums in one with the history of the 390th bomb group who flew B17 flying fortresses from the airfield plus Britain's secret army who in the event of an invasion by the Nazis would conduct guerrilla warfare. Highly recommended

On arrival I thought we would be able to see everything in about an hour, what a suprise we were there for three hours! An absolutely fascinating insight into the history of Parham airfield. Knowledgeable volunteers who were so informative and helpful. Most definitely one of the best museums we have visited. Lovely cafe, just one pound for a mug of tea or coffee. One small piece of advice, if you want something more substantial than biscuits or cake then make sure you take a picnic lunch. There are no sandwiches etc available, obviously for food hygiene and storage reasons. Just handy to have known, however I should have gone prepared, my error. Thank you to all the volunteers for a fantastic visit.

Had been meaning to visit the site having driven past the signs many times. Wish I had done it earlier. Interesting museum and has some very interesting exhibits. Elmhurst Park Playground is a charming oasis nestled in the heart of Woodbridge, perfect for families and dog owners alike. This well-maintained park features a delightful play area designed specifically for younger children, making it an ideal spot for little ones to explore and enjoy. The addition of new play equipment last year has enhanced its appeal, while the surrounding green spaces offer ample room for picnics or casual games like football.
What a lovely little park! A well kept jewel in the heart of Woodbridge, with a green area, a bandstand, and a play park. The play park is small and only for little ones, but our three year old loves it. What's more, we can bring our dog too, which is something most play parks do not allow (but note that dogs must be kept on lead at all times). The bandstand has an inlaid brick maze for extra fun. Best of all, it's right next to the Turban Centre car park, which is (at the time of writing) free for the first 30 minutes and fairly cheap for two hours.

Expanded last year with new play equipment. Aimed at younger children and in a quiet park setting but children can also see the trains passing by outside the park. Hopefully the toilets here will reopen by 2025. Closed due to frequent vandalism at night
Robin S — Google review
Not up to the standard I expected for a central park in Woodbridge. The toilets were shut which isn't helpful with young children playing at the park and the swings for babies had been taken down so there was nothing for my young baby

This park and playground does not seem to have the same attraction as it did, religious events (Easter) and dog shows were occasions where people appreciated the attention to detail and sincerity of these occasions. Pity, lost some of its sparkle since it stopped entering for the Green Flag award in which it did so well.

The Longshed is a fascinating attraction located in Woodbridge, offering free admission to visitors. It houses a full-size replica of the Anglo Saxon burial ship found at Sutton Hoo, which is being meticulously recreated by a dedicated group of volunteers using traditional tools and methods. The gallery upstairs showcases tapestries depicting Woodbridge, River Deben, and Sutton Hoo.
After visiting Sutton Hoo, we thought we would check out this project as they are building a replica of the boat here. Fascinating to see and watch it being built. We would have liked to have talked to the volunteers involved but they were busy talking to another group of people. We will likely be back another time as it will be interesting to see the progress being made and maybe next time we will be able to learn more about the project. In any case, it will be quite thrilling to see the boat finished and I think the plan is to float it which would be amazing! Free to visit but all donations are welcome.

I’ve been following the progress of Sutton Hoo Ships Company since first being made aware of the build from a Time Team documentary a year ago. The replica Anglo Saxon ship looked impressive on TV, but on entering the Longshed and being up close to it in person… it really does take your breath away and immediately instills a sense of awe and wonder. Largely staffed by enthusiastic volunteers, the fine craftsmanship in this build is a sight to behold. I was met by Benjamin upon entering and immediately engaged in an easy going conversation regarding this mighty project. I’ll be back again to see the progress. Such a warm welcome, and thoroughly fascinating. Dog friendly, too!
Martin Y — Google review
Building a full sized replica of the Sutton Hoo burial ship - an amazing project! But doing it using traditional building methods makes it harder and more impressive, even more so when you add that the skills and techniques of these shipbuilding methods have been lost and so need to be recovered and relearned. On top of which the wood required is no longer abundantly available. An almost impossible project slowly and magnificently rising from the keel slowly but surely. An amazing project, a beautiful project!!

The Long Shed in Woodbridge is a modern maritime heritage center located along the River Deben, near the Woodbridge Tide Mill. It serves as a hub for boat-building projects, including the reconstruction of the historic Sutton Hoo ship, a replica of the 90-foot Anglo-Saxon burial ship discovered nearby. The Long Shed is not only a workshop but also a visitor center where people can learn about the region’s maritime history and craftsmanship. With its blend of historical significance and hands-on exhibits, it offers a unique insight into traditional boat-building techniques and the cultural heritage of the area.

Visited for the first time as my Daughter had won 2nd place in an art competition so her work was on show at the gallery upstairs. My Husband met a really interesting American gentleman who was one of the volunteers meticulously working on the replica boat and showed him around as well as telling him so many interesting facts about the history plus the laborious but fulfilling task of sourcing the wood for the replica. My Daughter (6) and I got chatting to another volunteet who showed us the replica tools that they used to make the replica and the same techniques such as the handmade wooden pegs that hold the boat together along with how they made and used the metal rivets. So very interesting and hopefully they may get her finished and launched in the next couple of years of so, so my Daughter could be old enough then to be one of the rowers! To help the project, we have donations as well as purchasing some memorabilia from the gift shop. Thoroughly worth a visit, either followed up or after going to Sutton Hoo, where the original boat was found. It is free to enter but they rely on kind donations to carry on their wonderful work.

This has got to be one of the UK's "must see" attractions. If you are not already blown away by the nearby NT's Sutton Hoo, this will stun you as you see the famous 27m Saxon Ship being replicated using British oak and Saxon era carpentry tools. The process is brilliantly explained by volunteer guides and models on display. My images show a CAD representation, the progress as of July 2025 and the Sae Wylfing (working scale model) in the harbour near the Longshed. There is an excellent website featuring a Time Team programme which explains the history and construction.

National Trust - Kyson Hill offers an idyllic slice of the Suffolk coast, where visitors can enjoy the peaceful sounds of chirping birds. The area features a typical upper estuarine landscape within a small area and provides open access to countryside and riverside. It's recommended to check tide times if planning to walk along the river. The walk along the foot of the hill following the river is described as very pretty, with free parking available nearby.
Kyson Hill in Woodbridge is one of those places that’s famous for being beautifully simple. No playground, no restrooms, no café, just a peaceful grassy hilltop with stunning views over the River Deben. Managed by the National Trust, it’s a favorite spot for dog walkers, picnickers, and anyone who enjoys a quiet escape into nature. The hill is best known for its panoramic views, on a clear day, you can see boats drifting along the river, birds soaring overhead, and the rolling Suffolk countryside stretching into the distance. The short but scenic walk up Kyson Hill is well worth it, offering a lovely place to sit, relax, and soak in the surroundings. Just BTW, the name “Kyson” is thought to come from the Old English word for “tidal inlet,” which fits perfectly given its riverside location

Kyson Hill is a beautiful and peaceful spot for a walk, especially if you enjoy nature and stunning views. The climb up is gentle and easy, making it suitable for families and casual walkers. Once at the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking views over the River Deben and the surrounding countryside – a perfect place to pause and take in the scenery. The paths are well-kept, and the area is rich with wildlife, which makes it a great choice for birdwatchers too. It feels quiet and unspoiled, a hidden gem away from busy towns. Whether you’re looking for a short stroll, a place to relax, or somewhere to connect with nature, Kyson Hill is definitely worth visiting.

A truly lovely riverside walk in Woodbridge from the small car park along Broomheath off Sandy Lane. You walk along the well surfaced track and path over the railway bridge and through the National Trust woodland down to the river. Here you have a choice to turn left towards Woodbridge.. or at low tide to go right around Kyson point towards Martlesham to complete a short interesting circular walk with great views via Sandy lane and Broomheath back to the car. Be aware, this path does go past the sewage works which can pong a bit! If you decide to take the left hand path towards Woodbridge town, you’ll walk along the river wall right up to the tide mill with the water lapping one side and the cows grazing on the other.. it’s quite magical. The walk along the river wall eventually reaches the marina and boatyard where choices exist to cut across the railway line and work back along the Ipswich Road back to Sandy Lane.. or continue along the riverside to the town. Whichever route you choose at the bottom of Kyson Hill, left or right, sailboats ply up the river and all manner of seabirds wade on the mud flats.. and the views across the Deben are extraordinary.
Carl G — Google review
The 'Hill' itself is uninspiring, but the walk along its foot following the river is very pretty. Closest parking is a small car park and free. If you fancy a circular walk you could park near the yacht club for £1 and there is a cafe, play park and public toilet. Walk along the river, with several benches to stop. One more on the hill, then back through woodland.

Open access countryside/riverside. This is local to me. You can’t really tell it’s NT land, it’s open countryside. Great walk at low tide along the Deben and up the hill to a look out point. Do check the tide times if you want to walk along the side of the river. Walking up Kyson hill is unaffected by the tide. Very close to Woodbridge, if you want a circular walk of an hour or so.

Recently, it hosted the captivating exhibition "Journeys" by mother-son duo Seth and Jill Draper, where visitors were treated to Seth's unique wall hangings and sculptures crafted from driftwood and recycled materials, alongside Jill's stunning watercolors that beautifully depict coastal and rural scenes through her innovative overlaying technique.
First visit to the Artspace Woodbridge. Very impressive space... sorry couldn't resist. Went along to support a good friend Ewan Graham Art's in his first solo exhibition. The venue complimented the artwork hung on the walls. Great parking close by which was after we made a purchase.

Saw the exhibition Journeys by mother and son Seth and Jill Draper featuring his wall hangings, sculptures and automata and her watercolors. Both have a huge coastal influence. Seth uses driftwood and recycled materials. Jill's paintings use an overlaying technique which brings coastal and rural scenes to life. Easy to imagine you are there. Very enjoyable exhibition.

Lovely gallery space in the heart of Woodbridge. I visited with Ipswich Art Society as we had our annual small works show. Perfect location and great gallery for small to medium shows.

It is a great gallery space, with ample room to see all the art on display. Daylight floods the room, even on not so sunny days.

Charsfield Recreation Ground is a hidden gem that offers a delightful escape for families and nature lovers alike. Nestled in the picturesque village of Charsfield, this recreation ground boasts an array of amenities that cater to all ages. Families can enjoy hours of fun with various play equipment, including a small football pitch and basketball courts, ensuring kids have plenty to keep them entertained. The well-maintained grounds also feature outdoor gym facilities for adults looking to stay active.
Great playground for the family, it's less known so doesn't get busy, just how I like it, the children enjoyed hours of play, there is a field for ball games, play equipment, and adult playground/outdoor gym and all weather pitches, tucked around the corner is a picnic area. Great few hours out with the children.
