Le Phare du Cap Ferret is a must-visit attraction offering a blend of maritime history and scenic views. The lighthouse houses captivating exhibits on cartography and marine navigation, making it an educational experience for visitors. Additionally, the public observation deck provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. Surrounding attractions include an aquarium showcasing regional marine life and a museum featuring local history, oyster farming, and prehistoric artifacts.
Easy to park nearby (April 2025). No wait. €7pp. Quite a climb, but worth it, albeit very windy. Good gift shop with reasonable prices. No toilets or refreshments nearby, but public toilets 5 min walk away near the beach. Restaurants nearby.

A unique place. It is worth to climb up and overlook the bay. You can really good see the dune at the other side. Entrance fee is 7€ and parking can be done in the streets quiete simple.
R. A — Google review
Plenty of parking in the area and a nice place to visit. There was a queue to go up the tower so we just spent our time walking around the grounds and exploring the adjacent shelter detailing the history of the building. Very good gift shop
Julian D — Google review
Beautiful place with nice views to the whole area. We drove 1,5 hours to get there and I am happy that we did not miss the chance. As we visited the lighthouse before ~45 minutes before closure, there was no crowd. For non-French speakers: in the museum everything is written in French, so at least a little French knowledge is beneficial ;) However there is an audioguide in English & German which can help!

You need to do it... 53m high 258 steps... Awesome view... And some nice information about it's use and so on... You can park easily around it so no need to go too far away. Nice information is that there's a blockus to be seen and that can be visited freely next to it.

Chez Hortense is a long-standing seafood restaurant located in Lege-Cap-Ferret, offering a charming outdoor terrace adorned with lush greenery and boasting stunning views of the bay. This fine dining spot specializes in French cuisine with an emphasis on delectable seafood dishes. The restaurant is known for its upscale ambiance, making it a popular destination for those seeking an unforgettable dining experience.
The best food we had during our trip to Bordeaux. Oysters were super fresh. Mussels were delicious. Crispy golden french fries. We also shared the sea bass and the desert of the day.

Delicious seafood restaurant at Cap Ferret! Must try the oysters (as well as the foie gras)
Makram A — Google review
Very nice place with a very nice view on the dunes de Pilat. Very good food, nice service, reservation is a must well in advance. Quite expensive but worth a visit.
Stefan G — Google review
Chez Hortense is an institution in Cap Ferret, and for good reason. The atmosphere is casual yet full of charm, with views that make you want to linger long after the meal ends. Their mussels with homemade French fries are simply the best — generous, flavorful, and perfect to share (one portion is more than enough for two). A true highlight is the baked oysters with foie gras, a bold and unforgettable combination. It’s the kind of place you recommend to friends without hesitation.
Natalia B — Google review
To provide some context for this review, we live in Cap Ferret a good part of the year, and we dine at Chez Hortense several times a year. We're also well-travelled people and know a thing or two about good restaurants. As others have said, Chez Hortense is indeed an institution in Cap Ferret, and it is an institution for very good reasons! The food is exceptional, and despite being known as a seafood restaurant, the saucissons are fantastic, by the way! ;-) The fries, too, are perhaps the best I've ever had and are part of what makes Chez Hortense Chez Hortense! That being said, perhaps what truly makes Chez Hortense Chez Hortense is the people! The service is professional and efficient--it's a busy place, so it needs to be--but it's warm too. We're quickly given warm welcomes by the team, including the lovely woman who owns it, as soon as we enter the restaurant. Then, there is the atmosphere! When the weather is good and the roof is retracted, few things beat it. And regardless of the weather, the unobstructed view of the Dune du Pilat is truly magical! For all of these reasons, having been there many, many times, I would place Chez Hortense in my Top 5 restaurants worldwide! I can't wait for it to reopen in March!
Ronald B — Google review
Excellent food and a gorgeous view! Fishes and seafood are so good they don't need complex preparation to be delicious. Portions are big so it's a good place for sharing both entries and main courses. The place is very popular so the staff can be a little pushy with the bill. Make a reservation ahead!
Sarah G — Google review
A very cozy and comfortable place, perfect for family and friends to get together. Although in the same sea area, I compared the other two and I found that the quality of the oysters here is particularly good. In the choice of white wine, the store may add some moderately priced Bordeaux dry white, such as Entre-deux-Mers.
Vera Z — Google review
Food is typical of the area, oysters, tartare, fries, mussels, fish, and it’s okay at best. My main reason for the 2 star review is the horrible service. My empty plates were left on the table for 30 minutes while the family next to me had their table cleared the millisecond they finished. Everyone else got exceptional service while it’s as if I’m invisible. Frankly they don’t enjoy English speaking customers as is the stereotype. This could be the reason for the bad service. So speak French and reap the benefit of being treated like a normal person…

Oyster bar restaurant
French restaurant
Chez Boulan is a three-generation old oyster hut located in the heart of the 'Quartier Ostreicole'. This family-run establishment offers a simple yet delightful menu featuring locally farmed oysters, shrimp, sea snails, and regional wine. The picturesque location overlooking a bay adds to the charm of this traditional shack.
What an amazing find!! Fresh delicious oysters and very decently priced. Such friendly warm staff!! And cute sitting areas with the view of the dunes. Made our day so perfect 😍
Johan S — Google review
That’s an absolute 5*. A cute small place in an old-fashioned cabane, excellent and charming service. We only had oysters, those were wonderful wonderful! It was kind of chilly, so we were sitting inside, can’t say how it is outside.
Wolfi W — Google review
We had an amazing oyster degustation! The staff were absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome. The oysters were really special, fresh and full of flavor & the bulots were delicious too. The wine was stunning and paired perfectly with everything. Plus, the view was just incredible. Highly recommend this place!❤️
Dr. G — Google review
Everything is perfect here: the oysters, crevettes, pâté and a perfectly matching wine. Of course the service is top notch too. Well worth a detour of any length :)
Simon L — Google review
Wow, what a spectacular setting! We aren't into oysters, alas, but they also serve two different pates and wines, so we stopped for an hour to enjoy the evening. Friendly service, and a divine setting. (Our pictures show the view from our table.)
Kimmen S — Google review
It is not a restaurant but an oyster farm so they can only provide bulots, crevettes and les huites, of course wine and bread, that are the principle for French people. The oysters are super fresh, big and juicy. We ended up eating twice "every thing on the menu" 🤣🤣 the terrace outside offers also a fantastic view. It is a bit far from the port (compare to other very touristic restos) but it definitely worth the trip (in the end its only 25mins by walking, its not that far). I highly recommend it!!

La Pointe du Cap Ferret - Belvédère is located at the southern end of the Bassin d'Arcachon, a few kilometers from the famous lighthouse. It's best to reach this scenic spot by car or bicycle rather than on foot. Visitors should keep an eye out for Space Invaders scattered across Cap Ferret, with a total of 10 to be found in the wider region, not just within the town itself.
A must see site. A little walk but stunning view.
Alessandro M — Google review
Great view but the beach is closed for conservation it's a 4klm walk to the nearest open beach, all across sand ! We drove around the corner to a more favourable location
David C — Google review
Worth noting you can’t get on the beach here, it’s a fair walk back up north along a footpath for a beach. A good view of the dune du pilat (if you’re tall enough to see over the fence). Shame no amenities open (1st September) as a drink / ice cream would have been appreciated after the cycle down!
Sarah H — Google review
Stunning visit during a very stormy period, the sea was boiling and looked very dangerous, dunes are brilliant, the remains of a couple of old WW2 bunkers still just showing above the sand.
Nigel G — Google review
Beautiful spot to walk along the dunes and look out over the Atlantic Ocean and back towards le Dune de Pilat.
Louise — Google review
A nice spot to fotograph the dune on the other side. Its a wildlufe protection area. Bzt you can walk a foidpath about 1km to the beach de la pointe, which is it worth🙂

Le Sail Fish is a vibrant restaurant located in Lege-Cap-Ferret, offering a sleek setting for enjoying seafood and grilled meats along with cocktails. The establishment also features after-dinner DJs and dancing, creating a lively atmosphere for guests to enjoy. The restaurant prides itself on serving simple yet well-executed cuisine made with excellent ingredients.
Loved loved loved this place. The food was great and priced well for the quantity and quality. The atmosphere was immaculate! Great energy for a night out with friends. The wine selection was great and this place turned into a party after dinner. People were dancing on tables and seats, a girl came out lifted on a surfboard covered in lights when people ordered bottle service, and they did huge celebrations for peoples birthdays. I heavily enjoyed this restaurant and would highly recommend this to anyone! (Also great pescatarian options)
Michelle — Google review
A real institution of Cap-Ferret, this place is amazing! The menu is simple, offering a selection of entrées including a number of different varieties of sea bream carpaccio. The popular mains are the steak sharers (côte du boeuf, fillet, sirloin) that are all cooked on an open fire grill and come with a huge side of fries and green salad. The desserts are all presented on an open trolly that is wheeled to your table, the lemon meringue and strawberry cake are delicious! The cocktail selection is varied and there is a large choice of wine as well. Reservations are quite hard to make so I’d recommend being persistent in calling and make sure you try to book well in advance. We definitely noticed it tends to be more of a group spot than just for couples, and we were the only couple in the restaurant, but it made for some great people watching. The waiting staff were incredibly helpful answering any questions about the menu. As dinner went on, the restaurant began letting more people in to the bar area, and around 11pm the lights went dim, the music went up a notch, and people started dancing on and around their tables. Music tends to be classics, 80’s tunes and anything easy to sing along to. It’s not cheap but we’ll worth it for the food and the experience! Highly recommend!
Doug N — Google review
They live out of fame. Quality going down the drain. If you are an unknown, you deserve no respect to them. Meat is chewy Their fish creation are strange mixing fruits, sugars and spices. 🤮 The only tasty food is the one they haven’t cooked like the iberico or the caviar. Bar is expensive Music basic, commercial but entertaining. Lacks a guide line. A bit like a teenage playing its best of list. But that is OK. I have seen old frustrated white bouncers being irrespecutful to customers. Total looser in life but kings the door. Bar is overwhelmed. Does not understand that when you have a crowd you need to wake up and speed up things. Service gets quickly overwhelmed when patrons are coming at once. There you need to start to be patient. The boss sits on its seat at the back and seems not to care anymore. She cashes in the dollars
Fab A — Google review
Terrible service if your looking to go in without speaking French don’t bother because they discriminate against English speakers. We got rejected by the bouncer without a reason whilst many others were let in behind us. Even when google translate was used they still refused to give us a reason not to let us in.
Casper H — Google review
It is highly overpriced restaurant with a fleur of glamour and big luck of attention to details. For example, 26 euros for 5 tuna rolls is really unfair price. The food is ok and well presented, but prices are like in Michelin star restaurant (from which this place is very far). During all evening nobody lightened up the candle on the table and even a boitille of water was not offered. The waiters and all other people looked nice but the luck of attention to details is visible. For example, during Covid épidémie there were no soap and no paper towels. I checked even the cabin for handicapped visitors - no 🧼 So, even if guests would like to respect sanitary measures they can not:( I felt like foolish tourist with this choice of place, unfortunately. Which is happened first time in Cap-Ferret, generally speaking the restaurants and bars are good here.
Anastasia V — Google review
No star possible I’m afraid. Definitely the worst dining experience. Our food was confused with two other tables and sadly when being served, an hour and a half later, there was little satisfaction found in a dry Osso-Bucco. Diplomacy was attempted on our part however the manager and varying staff members were clearly not willing to be professional or polite. We ended leaving after the main meal with an extremely small birthday tart for 10 (6 portions) on a plate wrapped in cling film, to celebrate at home. We were told to take the tart and leave!
Sally F — Google review
Very Good food, but no place to party well. They try hard to generate a party atmosphere, but with a texting and smoking DJ this is very hard. Very much outdated in my opinion!

B. G — Google review
The magnificent bassin of Arcachon is already world famous and we had the opportunity to visit it during the August Feria... the traditional and local “Fête de la Mer” with animations, live concerts and shared “pique-nique” on the sea shore. The beach is small but nice and the bassin is breaking the waves so it’s ideal for little kids to play in the water. The city center is pittoresque and I recommend to move by bike because the narrow streets and summer crowd does make the use of a car very inconvenient.

The interior was typical Basque as it matches the restaurant’s name : Le Basque, in the Arcachon Bay, a few steps away from the beach. The restaurateur also from the Basque land. However, his manner was a bit too familiar. I would hate to see him when he is stressed. The mussels marinières were not of a culinary experience, not to be repeated. The frites were good.

The establishment offers creatively plated fish, shellfish, seafood, as well as beef and duck dishes. The restaurant has undergone a revival with a new team that has preserved the original spirit of the place while bringing in a new chef, Eric Jolibois.
This place came recommended by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. We had a seafood platter to begin with followed by grilled sole and great puddings. And a bottle of the local entre deux mer to wash it all down with. The kids had burgers which went down well. Lovely buzzy atmosphere in the restaurant and good friendly service.

Delicious food! I strongly recommend this place at the cap ferret. The couteaux were yummy as well as the oysters!
Sam — Google review
Nice restaurant if you are looking to eat something other than oysters in Cap ferret. Good food, on the pricier side. Recommend to make a reservation especially if you want to sit outside.
Lily — Google review
Great restaurant, best to eat inside as terrace is on a road with a fair amount of activity. Our experience today was good, the service a little rushed as they wanted to turnaround the table. The ceviche of dorade with mango and passion fruit was near perfection and the grilled razor clams too. Both were mouth watering as you were eating and enjoying the dishes. The main course of tuna tataki was slightly disappointing as tuna was chewy and extremely salty. Excellent presentation but not the quality of the other dishes. The other dish we had was chipirones in cream with squid ink spaghetti - very fresh and indulgent. A little depth of acidity would have made it perfect. Nice fresh food overall and a great kitchen with staff working hard.
Anna D — Google review
Great food, great service, unfortunately we had to sit inside as it was too cold, but the tables outside looked very nice.

Friendly welcome, nice setting and amazing food! We really appreciated the flexibility for the vegetarian in our group. Thank you for a lovely meal.
Katy O — Google review
This place came recommended by a friend, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations. While the initial welcome was pleasant, it quickly became clear that our waiter was new and struggling with the ordering device. A colleague was assisting him, but the situation felt awkward — we weren’t sure whether to wait patiently or step in. A simple explanation that he was in training would have helped set the right expectations from the start. We did enjoy our starters, sharing three dishes among the five of us. For the main course, we ordered seafood platters. I mentioned to one of the waiters that the periwinkles seemed undercooked. He said he would let the chef know, but after ten minutes with no response, I followed up. The waiter then told me the chef believed everything was fine. I politely insisted that something was off, and he said he would inform the manager. The manager arrived promptly, tasted the periwinkles himself, and agreed they were indeed undercooked. He apologised sincerely, offered to replace them, and kindly gave us a complimentary dessert as a gesture of goodwill. Despite this, the overall experience felt mediocre. While the manager handled the situation well, it highlighted a need for better staff training, particularly in communication and handling customer feedback.

(Translated by Google) From a distance, I was struck by a bell tower and its small, thin cross, perched at the top of this immense square tower. As I got closer, I discovered a virginal white church. Then I was attracted by streaks of colored lights coming out of the enormous front door. Flamboyant colors and other blues ranging from the lightest pastels to deep blues escape from her breast. It is a contemporary architectural achievement (55 years old), airy and bright. The presence of multicolored stained glass windows which, like luminous vertical gills, punctuate the side of Notre Dame des flots, makes us forget that this church is made of concrete.

(Translated by Google) The wind blows in from the ocean, salty and fresh, as I walk up the gentle hill toward the Église Notre-Dame des Flots. It's early morning, the light still soft, the scent of pine and sea in the air. Even from a distance, the white brickwork shimmers between the trees, simple, almost inconspicuous, yet it draws me in, like a silent promise. The church stands where the land slowly gives way to the Atlantic. No pomp, no bell tower calling for attention—more of a simple presence. The building seems almost like a protective rock in the swell of light, air, and sand. The architecture is clear and understated, but with a quiet power. Modern, but not cold. The facade is made of whitewashed stone, which reflects the sunlight dully. No baroque ornamentation, no pointed arches. Instead, clean lines, horizontal concrete bands, and an elongated roof with a gentle slope. The architecture consciously adopts the language of modernity, but remains rooted in maritime culture. It is almost reminiscent of an upturned boat or a protective hangar, as if it wanted to shelter people not only spiritually but also physically. The entrance area is open and inviting. I step inside, and immediately a different silence envelops me. Not the absence of sound, but a deep, breathing calm. The church interior is simple, almost ascetic, with white walls that gather the light. There are no columns, no golden altars, just clean lines, wooden benches, and at the end of the room, a large glass mosaic that holds everything together. The mosaic depicts Mary, the "Notre-Dame des Flots," standing above the waves. A female figure in a deep blue cloak, her arms protectively spread over fishing boats and seagulls. It is modern in design, almost stylized, but full of symbolic power. Her posture is calm, almost maternal. I linger in front of it for a while. It seems less like a classic devotional image than a connecting line between man and the sea, faith and everyday life, danger and hope. The wooden ceiling is constructed like an inverted ship's hull. A symbol that appears in many old churches, but is particularly appropriate here. The church itself thus becomes a boat, a refuge that carries one through all storms. The light falls through narrow window hatches on the side walls, filtered, restrained, but warm. There are hardly any distractions – only space. Space to breathe. Space to reflect. I sit down on one of the simple wooden benches. For a moment, I am simply here. Outside, I hear seagulls calling, the wind through the dune grass. In here – only silence. I think of the fishermen who may have prayed here before setting out, of families who sought refuge here when the sea raged. Of visitors like me, searching for the key, and of all others of my kind who don't find their way here by chance. When I step outside later, the light has brightened. The church stands as before – reserved, quiet, but full of meaning. Notre-Dame des Flots is not a church that imposes itself. But whoever enters will leave changed. Not because it overwhelms, but because it reminds them of what is essential. Of protection. Of hope. Of mystical energies and the quiet power of a place that contains more than meets the eye. As of: June 3, 2025 Notre-Dame des Flots doesn't speak to the eyes, but to something deeper. It demands nothing, but offers those who are still enough a glimpse of something beyond comprehension. Its silence is not empty, but filled with time and with stories never told aloud. These walls hold more than just air and shadows – they contain a different density of information. This isn't a place you own, but one that touches and enlightens you for the moment, if you're ready. When you leave, you carry something with you that isn't visible but has a lasting impact. An Schutz. An Hoffnung.

La Pointe aux Chevaux is a picturesque spot that offers a serene setting for visitors to take a break and enjoy the beautiful view. Accessible from two different paths, either a wide step or a dirt descent, it provides easy access for hikers and cyclists. The area features several benches where one can sit and admire the pool, making it an ideal place to relax and take in the natural beauty.
(Translated by Google) It’s time to tell you the story of the name of Pointe aux Chevaux. Around the 19th century, all the local shepherds gathered at this precise location, today “Pointe aux Chevaux”. Through this place, the shepherds could follow a path crossing the basin and leading towards the horizon of the bird island. The name therefore comes from the grouping of horses which was made there at low tide in order to take them to this famous island in the middle of the basin. Then the animals could delight in the salt vegetation, whose properties were magnificently sold. But on October 27, 1882, when a storm filled with heat and force that no one could dodge hit the island, the local flora was ousted. Through this history, the important thing remains today to perpetuate local culture and history through the ages while allowing yourself to enjoy the magnificent view!

Amazing seafood restaurant in front of the beach of Arcachon. We made a reservation few weeks ago thx to that we got a great table in front row. We had a great oysters from Arcachon, scallops and sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service was great by very friendly staff.
Tadeusz W — Google review
We had high expectations as the restaurant had great reviews and our hotel recommended Chez Pierre. The starters were good with fresh lobster ravioli and a Japanese platter, the main courses were so disappointing with entrecôtes which were either burnt or too tough to eat. The medium cooking was correctly done but the meat was very bland and so tough. The entrecôtes came with fries and a good béarnaise sauce but the salad dressed in just strong olive oil was odd. Such a shame at 38€ for a classic dish like this you’d expect a perfectly tender and tasty piece of meat and a green salad tossed in a mouth watering vinaigrette… We left half of the meat… nobody seem to notice there was an issue and we did not have the energy to give the waiter feedback - it is never welcome. The service was friendly and efficient - the decor and location great - the food was just ok and the main dish not great. Such a shame when it could be so good with a little effort…

Everything was great about this place except that it took a really long time to get the waiter to bring our check when we had finished our meal. Wwe probably would have ordered a coffee as well, if it had bot taken so long for them to come afterwards. But, it was a very busy day, so I can't really fault the server. Overall, great atmosphere and great environment and the food was also fantastic!

Michelin recommended right next to the beach. I sat down and expected an expensive and simple salad, I soon realized this place is a pearl. The location is superb, the service is excellent and the food is exquisite. We ate here 3 days a row. The tempo is high and the food is fast but extremely well done. This place deserves the recommendations from Michelin. I highly recommend the baked pie and the chef salad for starter.. Oh man that was an experience. The kids menu is super tasty, those kids sausages have lots of flavor and the green beans taste superb.

Santa Monica Vibes with French Flavor 🇫🇷☀️🐟 What a pleasant surprise. The cod and daily special (half chicken) were both spot on—tender, flavorful, and plated with care. The creamy potatoes deserve their own shout-out, and the chocolate ice cream? More like a frozen mousse au chocolat—rich and velvety. But what truly sets this place apart is the rooftop terrace. If you only want to have drinks or dessert such as Crepes, you can only order takeouts. There are plenty of seats inside the restaurant. The waitress was friendly to inform us non-French speaking tourists but we still find the rule very strange. The price for Crepe is quite high and the portion quite small. The crepe is at least delicious.

The prices for soft drinks, amongst others, is palpable... almost twice as much simply because they have a relatively nice view of the Dune of Pylat. That’s all they have going for their restaurant/bar. You’re better off bringing your own drinks, or wait until you’re further down the island. Lots of space on the terras, however, but because they need to place large sunshade, people who smoke cause a terrible stink, as the smoke can’t escape properly. Not recommended.

using my expert french translation skills i can determine that this place is called "aisle orcs oy socks", which isn't a great name. however this is one of the best places in france because it preserves the natural beauty of the land, there's no french impact on here but the surrounding area contrasts so much with it. overall, it's a pretty good spot. 4/5

Nestled along the serene coastline, the Chapel of the Algerian Villa is a stunning example of Moorish architecture that dates back to 1885. Designed by Leon Lesca, this vibrant Catholic chapel boasts intricate mosaics and a charming bell tower that beckons visitors. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by an enchanting ceiling adorned with fishermen's nets and miniature boats, beautifully blending Christian and Muslim influences—a testament to harmonious coexistence.
A highlight for a foto. The archithecture is quiete unique and the location. Inside it is also nice decorated with shipmodel and fishernet.

Lisa Q — Google review
Gorgeous chapel which was built in 1863 by Léon Lesca and his brother that purchased a vast estate on the edge of the Bassin, between the place known as 'le Boque' in Cap Ferret and Claouey. Back from Algeria, the public works contractor had a fabulous complex built, the highlight of which was the "Algerian Villa"—surrounded by a park with a wide variety of exotic species. Over the years, Léon Lesca developed and transformed his estate. He created fish tanks, managed the forest and oyster beds, planted a vineyard, and built a dozen houses for his staff, a school, a jetty, a presbytery, and a chapel. Only the back wall of the "cave," a rock bridge, two vat rooms, and the Sainte-Marie du Cap chapel remain today. The architect J.E. Ormières designed this neo-Moorish style building for Catholic worship in 1885. On the bell tower, the parallels between the cross and the crescent moon, and the Latin and Arabic inscriptions reflect the cultural influences of the patron. The polychromy, the presence of ceramic tiles with geometric and floral motifs, and the use of the horseshoe arch, here polylobed, are all elements that reflect the influence of Moorish architecture. The chapel was blessed on September 8, 1885, by Father Lacouture. For a long time, it remained the only place of worship on the peninsula; people came there on foot through the forest or by pinnace from Arcachon. The first and only chaplain was Father Noailles. Today, owned by the town of Lège-Cap Ferret and listed as a historic monument since 2008, it is still used for Catholic worship.

Very lovely old chapel, exterior architecture is fabulous, the building is tucked away minutes from the oyster village.

Charming chapelle Sainte Marie du Cap ! While entering you will able to look at the ceiling and admire fisherman net, a miniature boat along an Arabic style chandeller all hanged to the ceiling above the heart of the church showing a true mix of Christians and Muslims cultures. A rare evidence of how peaceful should live religions togethers. Facing the bassin d arcachon water the church is filled with good energy and marine breeze. Enchanting - outside you will find a strange pine tree supported by a piece of wood like an old fisherman stick

Fishermans' nets hanging from the roof. Arabic embellishments make for a beautiful juxtaposition between Muslim style and Christian. Sea front location.

This small, down-to-earth place specializes in oysters and offers wonderful views over Arcachon Bay. The terrace is wheelchair accessible and there are plenty of tables to seat guests. It's a great option for seafood lovers looking for fresh and delicious oysters without having to spend a fortune.
Life does not become better than a moment at Le Poston. Authentic, perfect without the complexity, wine perfectly paired — and oysters so fresh that they move when the lemon hits them. Highly recommend for a stop along the way.

Restaurant
Nestled along the picturesque Boulevard de la Plage in Arcachon, Les Embruns is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This charming restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it perfect for special occasions like Mother's Day or simply a delightful meal out. The menu showcases refined dishes that are both innovative and bursting with flavor, such as the Landes duck breast drizzled with salted butter caramel and the delicate meagre fillet paired with melon.
Amazing place doing homemade dishes. Very nice staff and excellent value. We loved the “Pied de Cochon”. Need booking for dinner.

The food was good but the presentation was pretty basic. I liked that the menu was online and in both French and English (although the UX could be improved). If it was only for the food, I would come back but the waitress (might be the owner?) made us feel ill at ease and was a bit aloof. The super white lights, the lack of music and a small number of tables made the atmosphere very cold, silent and weird. All I wanted to do at the end of the meal was to leave!

(Translated by Google) A restaurant well worth the detour! Located at 30 Boulevard de la Plage in Arcachon, Les Embruns restaurant honors its title of Maître Restaurateur. The Chef displays remarkable expertise here: precise presentations, perfect cooking, and bold and always balanced pairings. The Landes duck breast with salted butter caramel seduces with its originality, while the meagre fillet with melon reveals a rare delicacy. From starter to dessert, everything is homemade from A to Z with unwavering attention to detail, including the pastries. The carefully selected and seasonal ingredients are showcased in a complete starter/main course/dessert menu for €35: unbeatable value, especially in a region where some seaside brasseries charge the same price for a simple dish, without matching the Chef's talent. The understated and elegant decor complements the cuisine, and the welcome adds to the experience. The smiling and passionate manager knows her menu inside and out and readily shares her knowledge of the region. The selection of wines by the glass, at €5.50, and the affordable aperitifs, further enhance the balance between pleasure and accessibility. We returned twice during our vacation, charmed by the consistency and soul of this establishment, where you can feel the passion in every dish. A sincere, generous, and masterful restaurant: a must-see and absolutely must-support! Supporting this Master Restaurateur means encouraging artisanal work and preserving a true culinary experience. Marine

Dunes Blanches Chez Pascal in Arcachon is a charming bakery known for its specialty cream-filled puff pastries called Dunes Blanche. The shop is a must-visit, offering delicate and not overly sweet treats that are freshly baked in small batches. The classic and citrus variations of Dunes Blanche are both highly recommended, with visitors often regretting not buying more due to their heavenly taste. While the service may be average, the delectable pastries make up for it.
One of the 3 most famous desserts in Bordeaux Cosmopolitan. Taste so light and fresh. 👍
Mabel S — Google review
I recently tried Dunes Blanches, the signature pastry of Arcachon. The shop presents these pastries in a very unique style, which is certainly part of the local charm. They are essentially soft choux balls generously filled with cream, offered in different flavors. While I appreciate the originality and the popularity of this specialty, for my personal taste they were a bit too creamy. It is definitely worth trying once to experience this local creation, but I wouldn’t consider it a pastry I would return to regularly.

This is the original (and still the best) bakery that made these puff pastries stuffed with vanilla whipped cream. They are named after the biggest sand dunes in France which are 1 hour from Bordeaux in Arcachon, a gorgeous and famous beach town.

Holy moly these are amazing. Taste like little balls of heaven. The cream is subtle, the pastry just so soft with these crunchy bits sprinkled on top. Wish I bought more than 6!

Somos Sidharth y Cecilia. We went to Alex surf school because it was recommended to us by a friend. We went during the first week of May 2023. Paloma helped us coordinate since the start and was always there with great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. The location is perfect. We took the Bahia house and was super good. We could see from our bed the ocean and surf point. We had an amazing terrace to chill out and two entrances, one private. The setup of the place is really well done in all the ways We use the share kitchen and was perfect. Then I took classes with Andre and was a great instructor! He was really helpful and professional. He really helped me improve my popup technique. He has a great knowledge of the local conditions and always made sure we were in the perfect spot to catch the waves. He also taught me how to read the conditions and understand which were the best waves to catch. My husband sid took classes with Thiago. He was very good and patient. It was the first time Sid was able to stand up on the board. Everyone was super friendly and ready to help all the time with great advices. Great place all round and special thanks to Alex and paloma for making our trip so memorable. We highly recommend and we will will be back. Great place to learn. Friendly staff. Good equipment.
Gabrielle E — Google review
The rental equipment is not up to par. The Velcro on the leashes in particular is too worn, which is dangerous as you can lose your board in the surf. This happened to my son who had to be rescued by a fellow surfer. The replacement leash given was equally poor. Others told me of similar experiences. With the waves this big and the currents this strong the leashes simply need to be reliable. When I reported this to the staff they did not appear to take the issue seriously. Management needs to urgently address the faulty equipment. In response to your question: yes, very sure. And my brother in law had the same issue again yesterday. So I hope you critically review the Velcro on your leashes. Boards and suits were fine, location is amazing and people appeared to enjoy your surf classes, so this would be easily addressable. Thanks for taking security seriously.

(Translated by Google) The morning greets me with a cool, quiet clarity as I step onto the path to the Piraillan Reservoirs. The sun is still low on the horizon, bathing the forest in a soft, golden light that filters through the trunks of the pines. The air smells of damp soil, resin, and salt. A scent that is both calming and invigorating. I've resolved to begin the day peacefully, with nature, without haste, without a destination. Just me, the morning, and what I encounter. The narrow path winds through sparse pine forests, the ground springing gently beneath my feet. Ferns spread out to right and left, interspersed with heather and small sand hills. It's astonishingly quiet. No cars, no noise, only the distant tapping of a woodpecker and the occasional flutter of a bird among the branches. When I reach the first bodies of water, I inevitably pause. The ancient ponds lie still, as if holding their breath. The water lies there as smooth as glass, interrupted only by small circles where fish or insects break the surface. In the distance, a few herons stand motionless on the bank, as if they were part of the landscape itself. I take a deep breath. Suddenly, there's a quiet rustling in the undergrowth. I turn around, and there sits a squirrel, reddish-brown, with alert eyes. On a tree trunk, barely two meters away from me. It pauses, looks directly at me, its head tilted slightly to the side. It almost seems as if it's asking: What are you doing here in my living room, so early in the morning? Then, without anxious haste, it jumps back into the branches, disappearing among them, as silent as a thought. The reservoirs were artificially created in the 19th century, originally for fish and mussel farming. Over decades, human intervention created pools of water that have now been returned to nature. Since 1943, they have been protected as one of the oldest nature reserves on the Atlantic coast. It's almost paradoxical! First, humans shaped this landscape, then they let it go again, and that's precisely how something so primal could emerge. The path leads me across a small wooden walkway, beneath which the water gurgles gently. Dragonflies dance in the sunlight, and a kingfisher perches on one of the branches. A rare sight for me, but not unusual here. I stop and watch it, staring at the water with rapt calm. I wonder how many lives are going on in this small area, of which I only catch a glimpse. At the end of the path, the forest becomes denser again, the light falls in stripes through the branches. I feel the day truly beginning. The light becomes stronger, the air warmer. But something inside me has become quieter. This walk wasn't just a walk, but an arrival—not at a place, but within myself. I cast a last glance over the still ponds, over the light band of mist slowly dissipating, and over the water that looks as if it had stored the dawn. The Piraillan Reservoirs welcomed me not with spectacle, but with a silence that lingers long after. And as I return to the day, which concludes with many new impressions, I know—I started this day in the best possible way. As of: June 3, 2025 "In the depths of a silent encounter with nature, a truth beyond words is revealed. The world is not separate from us; rather, we are a breathing part of its living fabric. When the wind blows through the trees, the light dances on the water, and an animal gazes at us with inquiring eyes, the veil that separates us from wholeness thins. In such moments, time stands still, and something within us remembers an ancient connection, the knowledge that we are not visitors but invited, not observers but co-inhabitants of the great silent wonder."

Beach
Beach Grand Crohot is a beautiful and unspoiled beach in Cap-Ferret, offering a serene and clean environment for visitors. While it may not be the largest beach, its soft sand and warm, transparent waters make it a delightful place to relax. The northeast part of the beach provides seclusion away from lifeguards and surfers, perfect for those seeking tranquility. However, swimmers should be cautious of currents and swim beyond the shore break from low tide towards high tide.
In 24 of july I visited this beautifull Beach It and had a delightful experience. The beach is perfect for families and children, offering clean facilities and shaded picnic areas. The main attractions are the pool activities, such as kitesurfing and surfing, with equipment available for rent. There are also fun options for kids, like hand-held float devices. However, be aware that the water level rises significantly around 5 PM, so it's best to finish water activities before then. Overall, Beach It is a fantastic spot for a family day out, combining safety, fun, and convenience.

Great beach, lovely soft sand and lots of space. Got busier later in the day but lots of parking available in the morning. Clean beach and clean water. Well life guarded, waves and current can be strong so care is needed, especially with children. Couple of cafes there and a surf school.
Perry B — Google review
It is a great beach with both swimming and surfing options. The waves are a bit big, so be careful when swimming and follow instructions from the coastguards. The walk from the parking lot is also made easy, since a wooden walkway is laid out for almost the whole way.

This beach is great. The road to get here is beautiful. Parking can be a bit of a pain when it’s super busy, but overal ok. The forest and dunes are stunning. The beach is very nice

No WC, no frech water access to fill in the water bottle, full of people, difficult to park. Bref. Come prepared. Pee in the ocean
Lina L — Google review
Don't hesitate to wake early to enjoy this wonderful beach. If you want to be secluded and don't be bored by lifeguards and surfers, turn right at first entrance and always keep right to reach northeast part of the beach. Be careful about currents: it's always safer to swim beyond shore break from low tide towards high tide. If currenr brings you away from beach, don't fight and don't panic as it will bring you back toward shore a few hundreds meters south of your departure point
Jean-Michel A — Google review
This beach isn't the largest around, but it is very clean and unspoiled. Parking during peak Season can be a bit difficult, but if you circle around two times you are always likely to eventually find a spot. Importantly, there are no tabs present at the beach itself. Therefore, make sure you carry enough water. There are however two shops that sell snacks, handcarved fries, ice cream and beverages.

Good beach to fall asleep on, well sheltered and generally not so busy. A short walk from the ferry terminal which you can do along the shore if the tide is not in.

Marché du Cap Ferret — a local landmark and a festive treasure trove! Roughly 100 stalls under the covered hall and outside—offering everything from oysters and seafood to flowers, artisanal crafts, books, and jewelry. In summer (mid-June to mid-September), it’s open every morning until 1 PM; off-season, you’ll find it buzzing on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Enjoy small platters or grilled bites right in the hall, and let the friendly vendors bring a little local magic to your visit.

Some suggest that Europcar could consider more modern methods, such as using an app for vehicle pick-up and drop-off.

Le Petit Train du Cap Ferret is a delightful way to explore the stunning landscapes of this charming peninsula. This vintage train, dating back to the 1880s, offers a scenic 12-minute ride from the ferry wharf at Belisaire to Horizon Beach. As you travel approximately 2 kilometers, you'll be greeted by friendly staff who enhance your experience with their warm hospitality.
Very cute little train that travels from one side of the peninsula to the other, from the ferry wharf at Bélisaire right up the dunes above the Plage de l'Horizon on the west coast. Rolling stock is charming and well maintained, all spotlessly clean. Travel distance is approx. 2 km and the one-way trip takes hardly more than 12 minutes.

(Translated by Google) I took the little train to Cap Ferret this morning. Return ticket: €15 for 2 people. The lady at the ticket office told us the next one was at 2:40 p.m. On the way back, a sign was hung saying "no little train this afternoon due to the weather." I think that's incorrect; the saleswoman could have told us at that time. No communication and no refund. We preferred to close the ticket office and put up a vulgar sign. I strongly advise against taking the little train. The proximity of the beach encourages you to go for walks. We have a jacuzzi and bicycles at our disposal, which will make your stay more interesting. There are many seafood restaurants in the area, mainly oysters - a local specialty. The price includes morning coffee - unfortunately I didn't get it despite calling the owner, so the day started with a nervous search for a place for coffee - which fortunately turned out to be quite easy. The downside is the price :( (Original) Przyjemne miejsce na weekendowy wypad. Właścicielka odbiera nas z przystani i zawozi na miejsce. Dom ładny, odnowiony.Bliskość plaży zachęca do spacerów.
