The Douro Museum is a contemporary museum located at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Douro Valley. It showcases the wine culture and history of the region through its exhibits, with an emphasis on the production and transportation of wine via rabelos boats before railways were invented. The building has been tastefully refurbished and features video screens throughout to provide a comprehensive understanding of the local wine industry in both Portuguese and English languages. Admission is priced at 6.
This place it nothing to look at from the outside. But go in and check it out! The history of the Douro Valley is rich and the port industry is fascinating. But one of the best parts was seeing the back side of the museums. And the final gallery held an incredible show of a local artist that was so special!
Patricia J — Google review
Essential knowledge about the Douro region and vinyards. The working exhibits were well done and the last part of the museum before the shop where they show how exhibits are prepared for the museum is a great idea. It's probably a better museum when the exhibits are all working. I get that things have to updated from time to time, but then don't take the full admission price if visitors can only see half. From an accessibility point of view: it is quite dark inside and a lot of writing is light grey on wood grain (see pictures).
Kaya W — Google review
Highly recommend stopping at the Douro Museum if you’re in the area. It’s very informative and there’s a lot to learn about the region and its wine. The displays and exhibits are well done and clearly put together with care. The cherry on top is ending the visit with a glass of Port while overlooking the Douro River.
Hangry T — Google review
This is a really nice museum about the history of the region and the wine making tradition. The entry also included a glass of wine, which was a really nice detail. The only thing we would have liked that was not available was a guide or at least an audio guide.
Paola P — Google review
If you love Porto and Douro wines, this museum is a must-see. After your tour, you can enjoy a delicious glass of Porto in the charming café overlooking the Douro.
P F — Google review
Quite nice museum about history of wine in this region. It could more interactive, but a big plus is that they also show art of local artists.

Viewpoint of São Leonardo de Galafura is a popular spot in the Douro River valley, offering breathtaking views of the vineyard-covered hills and the snaking Douro River. Located between Regua and Pinhao, this magnificent viewpoint can be reached by taking the N313-2, which winds its way into the hills before arriving at the overlook.
Magical spot for views of Douro valley! Worth the drive, and remember to bring a picnic!! We arrived when the valley was completely covered with dense fog (amazing experience) and after an hour the fog lifted and the gorgeous river emerged in all its glory! Memory of a lifetime!

Just an incredible point of view like nothing else. What you need to know: 1- You can go at the very top with your car, no hike. 2- There is a restaurant that serve beer. 3- You will not regret Enjoy your stay in Portugal
Maxime D — Google review
Breathtaking view over the Douro Valley and river. You can see the vineyards, mountains, and winding river all in one panorama. Peaceful spot, worth the drive up.
Kinan R — Google review
Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura is a hidden gem in the Douro Valley and one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region. It is about a 25 to 30 minute detour north of Peso da Régua, so you really need a car to get here since it is hard to reach otherwise as a tourist. The drive up is narrow and winding and the spot itself is not well signposted, but the locals know it. Once you park there are a few stairs to climb before reaching the top. It is better to visit during the day when everything is visible and the light brings out the landscape. The view is absolutely breathtaking with sweeping sights of the Douro River, the vineyards and the small villages across the valley. It was one of the highlights of my trip.
Ali M — Google review
Nice view-point with a great view on the valley and the river. The way there is quite long but worth it in the end. There are toilets and tables outside to pic-nic.
Florin — Google review
A nice place to get a wonderful view. You can have a picnic at this place as there are tables and sitting possibilities.
Abdul — Google review
The views are amazing the peace that settles over you and the wonders of this world make you forget everything else and truly makes you appreciate the beauty that still exists.
Hope S — Google review
One of the clearest vantage points over the terraced valley. The road is narrow but manageable; parking is limited, so arrive early. Bring a simple picnic and stay a while—the light changes the landscape minute by minute. No facilities, just space and silence. A high-value stop between wineries or villages.

Regua, also known as Peso da Regua, is a charming town located along the riverside of the Douro River. It has a deep connection to Port wine and offers scenic views of vineyards. The town is popular for its small train tours that include visits to vineyards and wine tasting experiences. While it may be challenging to find vegetarian food options, there are eateries like Cais bar that cater to different dietary preferences.
Beautiful town with plenty of delicious eateries.
Rosine D — Google review
Peso da Regua ... The city of the Douro River ... This city is secularly linked to Port wine since it was from here that the Rabelo boats were controlled to descend to Porto. The river in the winter often rises a lot and floods the riverside areas ... Visit the Douro Museum and Douro Valley area is a must for any tourist coming to Portugal

It was so scenic and beautiful town located along riverside. We booked small train for town tour and d package included vineyard tour + wine tasting. Best experience was to see the porto wine making history there and to taste it. We find it difficult to get vegetarian food there but Cais bar saved us. Had so much fun in train and exploring the hill top view of d town.

Avoid the shop at the train station. The owner tried to rip me off by short changing me ten euros. He also sold me a lighter that did not work. Picks on tourists evidently. What a thief.

Restaurant
Tasca da Quinta is a small and cozy restaurant located in the center of Peso da Regua, offering a delightful selection of Portuguese tapas. The owner takes pride in his Portuguese heritage, ensuring an authentic culinary experience with dishes like octopus salad, pork ribs, and sardine omelet. The desserts are also noteworthy, including almond and orange cake and apple pie. Due to its size, it's advisable to make reservations in advance.
Don’t miss this restaurant! What a wonderful meal and experience. We’ve been eating a lot of meat on our trip and needed some veggies. The spinach salad and mushroom tapa were so delicious. My husband ordered the pork spare ribs and really enjoyed them. When we asked for a wine list, she pointed to her cabinet of wine and said to pick one. The raspberry mouse was the best I’ve ever had. If I could only come back for one dish, it would that! *they are cash only
Hilary G — Google review
Plan now to have a meal at this fabulous, cozy spot! Our group of four had eight meals over two dinners because it was so good that we simply had to return. The food is absolutely delicious…clearly a labor of love. The food presentation is beautiful, and every meal is like a gift from the kitchen. An added bonus is that the staff is friendly and welcoming, making one feel right at home. The staff expertly offer suggestions for wine pairings from high-quality artisanal producers in the Douro Valley. This restaurant is a true gem. Just go, and you’ll see why we love it!
Mary H — Google review
Best food we've ever had in Portugal, so we came back for 2nd night, which happened to be American Thanksgiving. Paula made it extra special for us and did some traditional sides to go with the ribs! I can't say enough great things about Paula and Tasca da Quinta! The first night we had the octopus, duck and pork. The duck and pork shank melt in your mouth, best duck and pork we have ever had. The second night we had the ribs and the duck. Both nights we had the smoked sausage, which was soft inside and wonderful on bread or alone. The second night we also had the mackerel and the white bean soup, both delicious. For dessert, we had the raspberry mouse which is light and delicious and the second night we had the apple tart/pie which was light and delicious served with lemon sorbet. Highly recommend and its particularly wonderful for those who like an earlier dinner - they open at 6pm!! Hope to make it back someday soon!
Mary O — Google review
Best diner we had in Portugal! Period! Very cozy restaurant. Make reservations! We shared an awesome pork shank and a wonderful salad (which I don't remember the name). The flavors were out of this world! We had wine from a local producer who happened to be dining there also (Quinta de Tourais). I highly recommend dining there. I will return for sure. Bring cash since they don't take bank cards (there is an ATM not too far from the restaurant.
Richard P — Google review
Recommended to us by our hotel, it was a great choice. Home-cooking style comfort food with filling portions. Could taste the freshness and care put into the food! We did need a reservation in advance as it is a smaller sized place and can only accommodate so many people at once.
Matt A — Google review
Three days in Portugal and I've hit the jackpot with the best restaurant so far! It’s lighter on the salt than traditional Portuguese dishes—my blood pressure thanks them. The octopus isn’t chewy, just melts in your mouth, and the sauce combo is spot on. The ribs and veggie rice reminded me a bit of Shanghai-style, which is pretty good. But the real MVP here? The octopus. Get that!
Sunny L — Google review
Super casual, unassuming, and inexpensive restaurant with great personality and service. It’s clearly a “locals” hangout with limited capacity (so make a reservation). When we called for a reservation Paula recognized the US area code and answered in English. She is super friendly, with a great sense of humor that is promptly realized when she showed us the wine list (merely pointing to the cabinets loaded with local wine.). She knew about all of them and once we selected she brought out the perfectly chilled bottle. Try the spare ribs! Note in our picture that the sign is missing from the front of the building. Paula is having a new one crafted. Very fun, super casual, and great food! What could be better?
Hank K — Google review
Simply the best Portuguese food! Delightfully delicious! A hidden gem of fine dining with an intimate upscale mom and pop restaurant feel. Definitely will return when back in Douro Valley. Muito obrigado!

Such a fun very local spot. great food. out of this world good value for money. my father didn’t eat meat and they were kind enough to make a unique off menu dish for him. And the meat was great! go!
Adi B — Google review
This is a really nice little family run restaurant just back from the river front in Régua. Nothing flashy, just good simple meat and fish dishes done really well. We went twice and tried veal, sausage, and chicken dishes, all of which were generous in size, and cooked to perfection. Desserts include an almond cake, and an orange cake to die for, particularly if washed down with tawny port! Wines are inexpensive, and great value. Charming maitre d' and waiting staff. Don't miss!!
Tim E — Google review
Very much a local's place, although it seems tourists are finding it also. We really enjoyed our meal here in this lively eatery. I highly recommend the veal fillet!

Owner is very kind and helpful. Food was amazing, we shared the Tomahawk steak for two and it was the BEST steak we have had in Portugal since 2 years of living here! Pictures of our lovely President are proudly displayed. Overall experience was ótimo!

Generous portions. Tasty food. Good house wine. Charming owner. The restaurant seems to get full fast so get there early on the weekends.
Yakov Z — Google review
Charming restaurant located along the back streets of Regua and away from the tourist traps close to the train station. The food was so good that we actually went back for lunch and dinner on the same day. We had the grilled piri chicken and stewed pork belly for lunch whilst for dinner, we had the house special grilled cod and Bitoque (grilled steak with a fried egg). Food was very well prepared, cooked and seasoned. The house white wine was a pleasant surprise, slightly sparkling, very crisp and bursting with citrus and apple flavours. We even ordered an extra bottle to have it back at our hotel. Friendly service and the food and drinks are very wallet friendly.

Quinta do Crasto, situated in Gouvinhas, Sabrosa, offers an exceptional experience for wine and olive oil enthusiasts. The standard visit includes a tour of the grape reception area, newly renovated winemaking cellars, and the innovative barrel cellar where premium wines are aged. The vineyard boasts a picturesque landscape and offers a private lunch experience with perfectly cooked bacalhau paired with their exceptional wines.
Visiting Quinta do Crasto was an unforgettable experience, combining breathtaking views, a fantastic tour, and exceptional wines. This estate is truly a gem in the Douro Valley, and I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary if you’re exploring the region. We originally came across it in Worlds Beat Wines and decided to give it a shot. The tour was incredibly insightful—our guide walked us through the history of the estate, the vineyards, and the winemaking process, making it both educational and engaging. We got to see the cellars where the wines age and learn about the techniques that make Quinta do Crasto’s wines so special. The wine tasting was outstanding—we sampled a selection of red, white, and port wines, and each one showcased the quality and character of the region. The balance, depth, and flavors of their wines were truly remarkable. One of the best parts of the visit was relaxing on the terrace, which offers panoramic views of the rolling vineyards and the Douro River below. The scenery is absolutely stunning, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine. The pool area is another standout feature—although we didn’t swim, it’s one of the most scenic pools I’ve ever seen, perched above the valley with unparalleled views. Between the amazing tour, top-tier wines, and incredible setting, Quinta do Crasto is a must-visit in the Douro Valley. The combination of great hospitality, stunning landscapes, and fantastic wines makes this experience one to remember. Highly recommend!

Amazing place with unforgettable view on Douro river. You can taste here a top of the top porto wines, red and white wines from the Crasto vineyard. Place which you see once and need to come back. Thank you, Miguel and your family, Catia for great stories about wines we tasted, Gilberto for everything 🙂 and rest of coworkers for wonderful wine dinner, excellent food and atmosphere which made us feeling almost like part of Crasto family. Muito obrigado 🙂

Had a tour around the premises before a 3 course dinner paired with a wine tasting of 5 really nice wines, sitting with a great view. Service was on great and our lovely waiter even insisted on driving us home to the vineyard next door where we were staying because it had gotten so dark. Nothing could have been done better, if you can, go here.

Guests rave about the outstanding breakfast served family-style with an array of fresh breads, fruits, cold cuts, and cheeses.
Gil was an amazing host. We showed up at his doorstep and he let us join the next tour no problem. Our group went through 3 bottles of delicious wine and he took us all around the property telling us all about the history and process of making the wine. Would highly recommend making a stop here.
Scott S — Google review
The host, Gil, was very nice, passionate, friendly and welcoming. He explained everything in vivid details, while also giving us a brief history lesson. He showed us how the wine is made too. The wine tasting was phenomenal, we ended up buying multiple bottles! 10/10 would recommend, and personally i would probably be coming back

Best service we have ever had at a wine tasting. Gil is so passionate and knowledgeable about the wine. The wine was top quality. You will not regret your experience.
Toni M — Google review
We rented bikes for the day and went on a “self-guided” tour up to the winery’s. Quinta da Casa Amarela was recommended to us by a local wine bar, and they welcomed us with open arms. They provided us with a wine tasting experience that felt authentic, personal, and informative, and the wines were the best we’ve ever had! The property is beautiful and maintains the original and traditional feel of the region. We were so glad we were able to speak with the owner and learn all about the history of the winery and his travels in the business. Definitely a highlight of our trip, and traveling in general. Thank you so much!

We had a wonderful visit at Quinta Casa Amarela, a beautiful boutique winery that produces outstanding wine and port. Gil, the owner and a member of the family's long wine-making tradition, was such a warm and welcoming host. Our conversation was friendly, engaging, and full of fascinating insights about the history and processes behind their wines. We felt right at home and left with a big smile (and with a few bottles!), highly recommend! Thank you Gil.
Uri K — Google review
Had an absolutely incredible tour and tasting with Gil. He really passed on the passion and pride that he has over the business, the wines and how he’s upholding the traditional values, something a bit rare nowadays in the wine/port industry. He was very friendly, answered all of our questions expertly and was just a wonderful guide. We all felt like we made a new friend! Would highly recommend a visit here, you will not be disappointed!
Miriam D — Google review
The owner Gil introduced us to the winery and the entire wine making process. Extremely friendly and caring with the true spirit of a family business owner in 5th generation. We loved it! And the wines are really really wonderful
Greg H — Google review
Excellent service, very comfortable room, amazing breakfast. Staff was absolutely fantastic, showering us with hospitality and warmth. The owners were sick during our visit so we couldn’t do the official tasting but Andre made up for it by making us feel so welcome and at home (and even showed our girls how wine is made). The pool is lovely but on the colder side, really nice views. Ana made delicious breakfast for us every day. The only downside is that they do not have a kitchen for lunch and dinner, so you always have to plan your meals ahead. Would highly recommend this place for a very authentic, comfortable experience. Very very family friendly. The best part is that they only have 5 rooms so it’s super cozy and intimate

Quinta do Tedo, also known as Atelier do Porto, is a charming winery that offers various wine tasting experiences, from basic tastings of Douro DOC wines and Ports to more exclusive vintage tastings. Visitors have praised the stunning views and comfortable rooms at the property. The wine tastings are highly recommended, with expert guides providing insightful journeys through Douro and port wines. We had such an amazing time at this vineyard! While waiting for our visit to start, we strolled along the charming trail through the vines, it felt like the perfect warm-up. Our tour guide, Denyse, was absolutely fantastic, she made the experience both fun and fascinating with her stories and energy. And the grand finale? A delicious Porto tasting that was the perfect ending to a wonderful day. Highly recommend!

Wednesday, our third wine tasting stop and then dinner venue, was at Quinta do Tedo in the Douro. Our energetic and passionate guide, Laura (think Laura Croft - as she introduced herself 😎) shared the history and wine making processes of this nearly 200-year old, smaller, estate winery. They cultivate 12 hectares of land, mostly with old-vine grapes. Many vines are 70-80 years old, and one section has 110-year old vines. We tasted two varieties of dry wines and three Ports. The ports were are all very tasty. I didn’t mention before regarding other wineries, but we left this one with four bottles. (I haven’t stopped to count the bottle collection this trip…😳) There is a beautiful little, Michelin-recognized Bistro Terrace on the property. The dinner we enjoyed was among one of the best I’ve had in Portugal. We had two very tasty starters. Dave selected a perfectly-prepared lamb shank with roasted potatoes, special rice, and greens. I almost devoured a pork tenderloin with terrine potatoes on a bed of perfect apple purée. Another nice surprise was that Laura, our wine expert also appeared in the service of our meal. Quite a sweet surprise. This is another recommended stop if you love Port and are touring in Douro by car.

An absolute must-visit in the Douro Valley. Quinta do Tedo focuses on red wines and Ports, and everything we tasted was exceptional, from the rich Reserve reds to the rosé Port and the beautifully aged 30-year-old tawny. Even though the winery was busy, they seated us separately for a private tasting, which made the experience feel personal and special. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and every pour reflected real craftsmanship. The highlight was meeting Kay Bouchard, one of the owners, who personally stopped by to welcome us and even invited us to join the traditional foot-treading. Her warmth and hospitality made our visit unforgettable. It’s rare to find a winery that combines quality, history, and genuine kindness like this one. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Douro!

Really loved our wine tour here. There was a big tour group coming after us (~100 people), so Tiago took us around as we were a smaller group - he doesn’t usually do the tours apparently. He was absolutely fantastic, doing a great job of the explanation, and was very generous with which port we were allowed to taste. The scenery was stunning (as it is in all of the Douro Valley). Plus, the wine was delicious!

Enjoyed a tour of the wine making facilities as well as a generous tasting as guests of the B&B. I can't imagine a more beautifully situated quinta. The tour guide, Lara was very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. The service and food in the Bistro (Familia Gearas) was outstanding with the chef personally coming out to check in with his guests and to make recommendations. The views were incredible. We also enjoyed a swim in the lovely pool with a view and 2 hikes around the property. We arrived by taxi from Pinhão, which was about a 20 minute drive along the Douro. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back. Only suggestion: please have coffee available for guests to help themselves before breakfast/in the guest wing. ☕

TOTALLY not worth the price & time of the wine tasting tour. Described as a 1 hour tour of the property, with wine tasting. The "tour" itself was about 10-15 min, included 2 rooms in the same building, and heard the same explanation. After that 10-15 min "tour", we sat to drink 5 wines/ports samples. The samples themselves were good, but for 35 euro per person, we expected something completely different. don't spend you time and money there, go try somewhere else.

(Translated by Google) The Casa do Douro.....what can I say about an institution that was what any farmer dreamed of, guaranteed that he would receive his produce at a guaranteed price without any problems in the distribution of his product, even in years of surplus, with the economic power to do so. Democracy, political struggles and economic interests did the rest...... ended it and its power. The farmers and the Douro became poorer and more alone. Not even the building with all its functions is used by those who should be using it for the public good. A shame, an injustice to the institution and the building. Nestled along the picturesque Douro River, Quinta dos Murças, owned by the Esporão group, is a historic estate that boasts eight unique terroirs. This charming destination is home to the first vertical vineyard in the region, established in 1947. Visitors can immerse themselves in authentic wine and nature experiences while enjoying comfortable accommodations within its five well-appointed rooms. The estate features a main house with inviting living areas and a refreshing pool for those warmer days.
My husband and I had the most AMAZING experience on our private tour. We learned so much about their wine making process and were able to enjoy several of their delicious table and port wines. Miguel truly provided a more insightful and enjoyable/fun experience than other wineries we visited in countries such as the US and Spain. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience, Miguel!

Extempore visit and red wine tasting. Excellent wines on the farm, I especially liked the Margem 2022 wine, with a special blend of floral and pine aromas and a hint of blueberry. It wasn't too tannic, luckily. We are bringing it home to Finland to drink it with rosemary-roasted lamb in the winter. Their beer is also worth tasting - absolutely wonderful honey aroma and fresh taste. Many thanks to the staff for the friendly service and interesting tour of the production facilities.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Quinta dos Murças for our honeymoon, and it was ab unforgettable experience. This place is a gem in the Douro Valley. The property itself is stunning, with panoramic views that are simply incredible—it felt like we were living inside a painting. As an active vineyard and winery, we loved touring the farm and facilities. It was a real treat to see the process up close and, of course, to enjoy the delicious wines they produce right on-site. What truly made our stay so special, however, was the hospitality. Silvia, the manager, is an absolute star. She welcomed us with such warmth and made us feel right at home - like we were part of the family. Her deep roots in the region and extensive knowledge of the wines and local culture were so impressive and really enhanced our trip. Every detail, from the beautiful surroundings and the genuine care from the staff to the exquisite breakfasts, made our honeymoon perfect. We can’t wait to go back.

We loved our stay at Quinta das Murças, such a beautiful little corner of Douro. Breathtaking view from the room, quiet and charming. It was all we needed for a romantic weekend away from the city. We really recommend to anyone looking for to spend some time in these beautiful mountains overlooking the river. The station of covelinhas is just a short walk away and the train is perfect to see the river and move around.

Stayed here for two nights on our recent Portugal trip. The accommodations were lovely and comfortable, and all the staff were incredible. Wonderful breakfasts and a very in depth tour and tasting with Silvia and Mafalda. The only thing to note is that there is not much nearby in terms of food in the off-season, which we weren’t particularly prepared for, but made it work. We will be back!

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. We spent two nights here. Gorgeous location minutes away from the train station with a convenient and beautiful train ride Porto. Lewis, Kristiana and Sylvie (apologies if we spelt the names wrong), couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a good time. The breakfasts were delicious and generous. The evening meal cooked by Kristiana was amazing and we loved the wine tour from Lewis who was so passionate about the vineyard. Thanks again guys for a lovely two days. The breakfast birthday cake was an unexpected delight! Oh and we mustn’t forget lovely Luis the dog.

Located at the entrance of Peso da Regua, at the old train station, Castas e Pratos is a versatile dining space that offers an intimate setting for couples or a lively atmosphere for group dinners. The restaurant, terrace, and wine bar with over 30 wines by the glass cater to various preferences. The menu features Portuguese ingredients like Algarve coast prawns and transmontanas alheiras, as well as vegetarian options with allergen information provided.
Probably the best restaurant i’ve ever been to in my whole life! If i’m honest most of my restaurant favorites are asian/asian fusion, however the food here was so exceptional. I could very much see and taste the dedication to crafting a perfect dish and the quality of ingredients. Sometimes the photos online and the execution in person do not align but that was not the case at all here. Our airbnb host recommended the restaurant to us as his friend was the owner, thank you so much. It was very very much worth it. This entire area is so beautiful and felt like a breath of fresh air turned into a physical location, the restaurant itself is beautifully designed and the plating was also very well done. I got the mushroom risotto, and i will think about it eternally!

Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor exploring the Douro Valley, Castas e Pratos offers a dining experience that beautifully marries tradition with innovation. Its commitment to quality, ambiance, and service makes it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. The restaurant offers a menu that combines traditional Portuguese flavors with innovative culinary techniques. Dishes are thoughtfully prepared, showcasing the best of local ingredients. With over 30 wines available by the glass, guests can explore a variety of local wines, enhancing their dining experience. The desserts, such as the lemon dessert, are crafted with attention to detail, offering a delightful conclusion to the meal. The menu at Castas e Pratos is a celebration of Portuguese ingredients with a modern twist. Diners can enjoy a variety of dishes, including fresh seafood, meats, and vegetarian options. Some standout items include: •   Iberian Black Pork with Mushrooms and Truffle: A flavorful dish that highlights the rich taste of Iberian pork, complemented by earthy mushrooms and aromatic truffle. •   Scallop and Oxtail Starters: Delicate scallops paired with tender oxtail, offering a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. •   Lemon Dessert: A refreshing and tangy dessert that provides a perfect ending to the meal.

I would have given this place a 4 stars, but the service from Diana was really lacking, from her curt replies to a non-existent smile... Food wise, we had the sardines and the scallops... both disappointing in terms of taste and portion... between the 2 dishes, the latter was better if I was to choose.. The seafood risotto was big in portion but it had more rice than seafood in terms of proportions... what you see on my place was more or less most of the seafood per pax, what's left was a couple of shrimps in the pot with lotsa rice.. We came on a hot day and their aircon wasn't even cool enough although they had fans overhead. The wine we chose was young and had to be drank quickly.. when u leave it resting for long, the sweat fruity taste turned acidic...

Didn't stay at the hotel but tasting tour was great. Very personable guide with good information. Was allowed to go into vineyard and try a grape which was very yummy since they were 2 weeks to harvest and made our day. Not all were winners but got to try a wide variety of Wine/Port and they were mostly very good. Great atmosphere, location and value for the tasting. Would visit again.

We were recommended this place for a meal so we came for a drink the day before with plans to book for lunch the next day. There are so many vineyards around here offering top class tranquil restaurants. We sat and had a drink whilst right outside a big van parks and starts offloading bikes for an hour, a man is loading plastic crates and a fork lift is zooming around with the associated beeping every time it reverses. This has to be the worst place to place a nice restaurant. What's more it's right by the river but instead of a lovely view of the river we get big van and bike trailer, fork lift and lorry loading crates. Decided not to book for lunch next day.

Came here for a wedding. Lovely venue. Staff were very friendly and chill. Loved the 2 resident dogs and cats. Rooms: We stayed in the regular rooms(ie not barrels). Nice decor and good size but no kettle to boil water. We had several meals here and food was pretty good overall. The only downside is the main restaurant isn’t open all day. And only opens late at 7.30pm for dinner. As it is quite small, if you don’t make a reservation, you may not get a table. Breakfast also starts late at 8am and only lasts till 10am. You can get food from the bar otherwise but menu is very limited especially for gluten free diners. We booked a car to bring us from QDP to Porto airport and was quoted £150-200 at reception. On the day itself though, it cost us £220. No explanation for the increase in fee. And it was only transport for 2pax.

🍷🧀🦚🌄🤵 The barman at Quinta de Pacheca was incredibly accommodating. Even though we arrived fairly late and skipped the winery tour, he still welcomed us in for bar snacks and a bottle of wine that ended up being more than enough for dinner. We ordered the €33 charcuterie board and a €12 bottle of wine — both were delicious, and we could barely finish everything by the end. Definitely recommend this combo if you’re looking to enjoy a relaxed evening at a beautiful winery, especially out on the patio with peacocks roaming nearby and genuinely friendly service. It is simply impossible to stay in this hotel. At first, everything seems perfectly respectable when you arrive at reception. The staff there are polite and sensible - you can tell they’ve been trained in guest greeting standards. They even give you a tour of the hotel, show you the main areas and escort you to your room. That’s where your pleasant experience comes to an end. If you’re unlucky, as we were, and end up in a room in the residential wing, the only tolerable place to be will be the bathroom. At least it has relatively new tiles on the floor and walls. Mind you, don’t expect any amenities befitting a supposed five-star hotel. In our bathroom there was only: hand soap, all-purpose shampoo, a disposable shower cap, a nail file. Apparently the hotel considers a basic hygiene kit (cotton buds, cotton pads, etc.) an unnecessary luxury. The toilet, when flushed, simply splashes water all over the floor - perhaps that’s their idea of hygiene. But that’s actually the best part of the room. The worst is the bedroom itself. The carpet is filthy, covered in stains and ingrained with the stench of vomit throughout. Every piece of furniture - including a completely empty and pointless chest of drawers - is chipped and battered from decades of use. There is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, in the room that even remotely suggests five stars. Not even a simple shoehorn. In fact, there’s nothing at all. No iron or ironing board, no umbrella, no hairdryer. Nothing you’d expect from a five-star hotel. Breakfast is a special kind of masochism. There’s a menu with various egg dishes, but the breakfast chef appears to have entered a kitchen for the very first time and has no concept of cooking for human beings. The vegetable omelette had no salt whatsoever. I’ll just show you a photo of the Eggs Benedict instead of trying to explain - it was literally half a bun, about 7-9 cm across, with an egg dumped on top and two halves of a slice of bacon. No sauce, no seasoning, no salt. Thankfully the natural saltiness of the bacon saved it slightly. They serve cheese sliced straight through the coloured protective rind. Avoid the coffee machine in the dining room - it dispenses brownish water with no flavour at all. If you ask for coffee in a pot, they bring you the cheapest, foulest instant coffee imaginable. The food at the pool bar is a true culinary masterpiece - if you measure excellence by the standards of a low-grade home kitchen using the poorest ingredients. The €18 toast looks like a slice of stale supermarket bread (and I’m probably insulting supermarkets here), topped with finely chopped tasteless tomato and a sprinkle of cheese. They heat the whole thing in an oven or microwave and serve it with crisps. The crisps are the best part of the dish. The quinoa salad contained ingredients not listed on the menu (mushrooms). Unfortunately the person who ordered it is allergic to mushrooms. Apparently the hotel is unaware of legal requirements to declare ingredients/allergens. If you fancy a cocktail masterclass, be prepared to assist the instructor with their English - you’ll have to supply the words they’re searching for to explain the process. It seems the hotel knows very little about the hospitality and restaurant business in general. What they do know is how to bus in thousands of tourists for wine tastings. So if you’re dreaming of a peaceful holiday rather than the ambience of a coach park, look elsewhere. All this for over €500 a night. More expensive than almost any hotel in the region - and utterly unworthy of the price.

We had our wedding here and if I could give it 1,000 stars I would! Everything was truly exceptional. The staff are kind and accommodating. It’s clear they take pride in their job and want all of their guests to have a good time. The property is stunning. I have been in September for harvest and stomped grapes with a Portuguese band and in May for our wedding. Both times of year are beautiful. I love to travel and never have I found a place that I want to keep coming back to as much as Quinta da Pacheca! Very deserving of the Michelin guide recognition! I heard from many of our guests it was the best wedding they have ever been to. I feel lucky to have found such an amazing place and will be back for anniversaries to come 😊

I rarely post but really did love this hotel experience. The wine barrels are super unique rooms and, the ones with pool, are special - especially when it is scorching outside. The main pool facility also was fantastic and a great relaxed vibe. The wine tour was popular but wasn’t anything special versus other beautiful spots in the region. The only negative was service levels —- really slow. And I live in Spain so accustomed to slow. But in two meal services, from sit down to first course served- an hour. This needs to be addressed, especially when in comparison to your 5-star neighbor, Six Senses (albeit double the price there).

Nestled in the heart of the Douro Valley, Quinta do Vallado is a stunning design hotel that beautifully marries modern comfort with historical charm. Quinta do Vallado was an absolutely wonderful place to stay! The hotel is the definition of 5-star comfort, luxury, dining, and classic old-world relaxation. From the minute we arrived, they had a smooth check-in with excellent information. We stayed in the modern building in a superior room. The room was spacious with beautiful amenities and setup. There was everything we could need in the room. The common spaces of the hotel were beautifully decorated. Dinner was served with a fixed menu with 2-3 options, including a vegetarian option, at 7 pm or 9 pm. The wine from Quinta Do Vallado was beautifully paired with our meals, with the option of their premium or super premium wines. The quality of the wine with the food was impeccable and at a great value. The property was breathtaking and has a beautiful 300 + year history. The in-ground granite-lined pool is gorgeously set in a grove of orange trees, which is incredibly picturesque. The staff was incredibly helpful in organizing things as well as transportation, and the complimentary tour of the winery was also incredibly educational. Quinta do Vallado is a breathtaking property that is a perfect escape from the outside busy world.

We did the wine tasting at Quinta do Vallado and absolutely loved it. The setting is gorgeous, with vineyards all around and a mix of modern and historic buildings. The wines were excellent, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Such a perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the Douro Valley.

Quinta do Vallado is one of the larger, more well-known producers in the Douro, and that scale definitely shows in the experience. The facilities are beautiful, modern, and impressive, but the visit felt more scripted and commercial than some of the smaller family-run quintas we toured. It took about an hour of touring before we finally got to the tasting. We opted for the most comprehensive tasting option. At one point, the guide presented a vial of 1880 vintage port, passing it around and hinting that we might get to try it. Spirits lifted — until she revealed it was 200 euros for a sample. A similar thing happened later with one of their reserve wines, a fascinating blend of 32 grape varieties. The bottle made it to our table but was never opened, which made it feel more like a sales pitch than a genuine tasting. While the wines themselves are excellent and the property is stunning, the overall experience lacked the personal warmth and authenticity of the smaller estates. Worth visiting for the history and architecture — but if you’re looking for a more intimate or educational experience, try one of the boutique quintas nearby instead.

Honestly we can't comment on the accomodations. We dropped in while driving through this area. We arrived while a group of ladies were doing a tasting. We didn't have a booking and the host was busy with the group. No problem as we understand the booking procedure. We browsed the wine selection and found 2 vintages (1 lower priced, the other mid range). Prices average for this area so we purchased them. We're enjoying the less expensive one this evening and it is quite plesant. The other bottle will be delegated to the cellar to grow older gracefully (OK maybe 1-2 more years) before being paired with something complimentary. Staff were friendly but busy. Location is out of the way but that is sometimes good.

Really informative and efficient winery tour with a VR experience of the harvest! Our guide was very thorough and knowledgeable about the different varieties, and I liked how it remains a family-run business even though it is one of the oldest and biggest wineries. Recommend touring in the morning during the summer months as it can get pretty hot outside!

São Leonardo is a traditional restaurant known for its excellent oven-roasted goat, offering a selection of other traditional dishes as well. The menu also includes a variety of regional wines, including the house wine. Additionally, São Leonardo da Galafura viewpoint offers an overwhelming natural landscape and stunning beauty that has been praised by renowned writers. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view while indulging in delicious food and affordable prices at this incredible location.
Lovely lunch! I had soup for the starter, then mixed meats with vegetables and beans. Really yummy! After that, a nice cheesecake. That was yummy. Really nice staff; they made sure we were full and happy. That's a nice touch, even though we were just here on holiday, so it was a very different culture. It has really nice views as well, and there is a little church just up the road—a bit of a walk uphill, but the view is lovely.

Beautiful view over the Douro River and valley. The cabrito here is probably the best I’ve had in Portugal – tender, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The place has a very authentic, rustic decoration that makes it cozy, and the staff are genuinely kind and welcoming. A great experience all around.

No frills restaurant with great views of the D’Ouro Valley. We visited on a tour of the valley and enjoyed the home-style feel of the meal and service. Feijoada was delicious and so was the house-made red.

An excellent experience. A wonderful roast kid with potatoes accompanied by unforgettable oven rice. Room with stunning views of the upper Douro wine region, impeccable service, friendliness and care of the staff. To be repeated.

From this restaurant me and my girlfriend had the worst food poisoning of our lives. It lasted around 5 days and we both had to see a doctor. It turned out the rice was very old and developed some dangerous bacteria. I was there on 04.04.2025.

Restaurant
"The River" is a charming restaurant located near the Douro museum. The second-floor dining area offers a nice view and good lighting. The service is friendly and attentive, with multiple staff members assisting throughout the meal. The food is well-prepared, with options for small starter plates or main dishes with sides. Diners appreciate the balanced seasoning and the option to control salt levels with provided coarse salt. The interior decor is beautifully designed, creating a pleasant ambiance for guests.
The dishes were impeccable. Kudos to the chef. The sea bass was cooked to perfection as was the sirloin accompanied by the mushroom truffle risotto. No one flavor overpowered the main attraction of the fish or sirloin, which so often does with sauces or strong ingredients. The service by Maria and Diogo was not only helpful, but highly personable and professional. The wine recommendations and presentations were excellent. The interior is open and airy with its second level mezzanine and big glass walls of windows. The tables are spaced nicely to contain conversations and are well proportioned for sharing dishes without crowding all the real estate and needing to constantly make room. We love to order multiple appetizers to try and the last thing I want to do is shuffle useless decor around the table to make room. These tables were at least 36x36 inch square with a small side table for accoutrements. This may seem frivolous to some but it makes the dining experience very pleasant. I was surprised this restaurant didn’t come up more frequently in my searches for dining. It seemed many of the blogs and articles written seem to focus on the same handful of establishments. The River is a definite must try.

Honestly, this was an unexpected surprise. The setting is beautiful - a historic building which has been smartly updated and has a very contemporary polish. The staff was courteous and took great care of us. And, the food - I think it was “traditional” Portuguese fare with a fresh edge, well-presented in crockery and served with a slight flourish. My husband and I both enjoyed a hearty entree (we skipped a starter, since we had a pretty big lunch earlier in the day). If we lived in the near-by area, we would absolutely go back!

Brought here by MC Tours. Fish was OK but Pork loin was dry. Soup, wine, bread, fruit, cake espresso was good.

The service was amazing. They were friendly and tried to provide everything that we requested. But the taste and overall quality didn't meet our expecations. The restaurant changed menu 2 days before our visit and it seemed completely different from what I saw on previous reviews. Each meal was close to 30 euros but would never pay for these.

TOURIST TRAP!! We ordered the bread with olives and butter. There was not even enough butter for one piece of bread! Something like 2 grams of butter for two persons! Then we had the cod with cauliflower sauce. It was good but again we only got two tinny pieces of fish! For the price they charge they could put at least five or six pieces! We decided that was enough rip off!! Cost us 25 Euros and we got out starving!! Outrageously expensive restaurant for what you get in your plate! Cannot recommend at all!!

Wine bar
Nestled in the heart of Peso da Regua, Libatio is a charming wine bar that invites you to explore the exquisite wines of the Douro Valley and beyond. This elegant venue has filled a long-standing gap in the local scene, offering an impressive selection that includes delightful surprises from various regions across Portugal and even some international gems. While they do serve small dishes, it's best to enjoy a full meal elsewhere; however, their petiscos are certainly worth trying.
What a rustic, elegant, and grungy bar should look like. For wine connoisseurs and amateurs alike, this is your go to spot for the best wine selection Portugal has to offer. Curated by one of the most charming hosts you'll ever encounter! Perfect for dates, friends, or singles night out! Did I mention dog-friendly??

Restaurant
Located in the heart of the Douro Valley, DOC is a riverside restaurant that has been surprising visitors since 2007 with its warm and relaxing atmosphere. Chef Rui Paula's menu combines elements of Portuguese cuisine with unusual international ingredients, creating complex flavors. The restaurant offers panoramic views of the Douro river and vineyards, making it a popular destination for gourmets from far and wide.
If you're looking to experience new flavors, textures, pairings, and innovative ways to prepare well-tried food, this is the right place. You will be surprised and delighted. The staff is attentive and friendly, the view is great, and for those who enjoy it, you get to have a look at the kitchen through a ceiling-mounted TV. I just wish it would be a little more zoomed into the dishes being prepared. If you're in a hurry or starving, this is not the restaurant for you. Service takes its time and there is room for conversation between plates. This is not criticism, it's just how this restaurant is meant to be. I will return!

Incredible dinner! From the staff to the view to the ambiance, and of course the exquisite food. My husband and I had a wonderful time. We decided to go al la carte but of course we wanted to share evening. The kitchen kindly split all of our meals and paced them out instead of bringing all together, which really enhanced our experience. Our server Felipe was so lovely and helped us select an excellent bottle of wine to pair with our meal. Our favorites were the pasta with cheese sauce and the apple dessert - both unique and surprising in their own way! If you’re in the area I can’t recommend a meal here enough. There is parking onsite and outdoor seating.

It’s never disappointing coming here. The staff is wonderful and the food is always lovely. The only thing I’m not so fond of is the new bright lighting, for dinner, I prefer a softer ambiance. Still, for me, it remains the best restaurant in the Douro.

One of my daughter’s courses had a.bug in it. The reaction by the server was disappointing. They automatically added gratuity despite. Food was meh. Disappointing experience. My stay was one of the highlights of my trip. As a solo traveler, I felt immediately comfortable and safe. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, and the whole place has a relaxed, welcoming vibe. When I realised I’d left my charger plug at my last hotel, they kindly lent me one – just one example of how thoughtful and accommodating they were throughout my stay. The room itself was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. But the most special moment was my private dining experience. As I was traveling solo, they offered to serve dinner on my terrace – and it was magical. I watched a beautiful sunset over the vineyards while enjoying delicious food and wine. It was peaceful, personal, and completely unforgettable. The grounds are stunning and well worth exploring – I highly recommend taking a hike around the area to fully appreciate the beauty of the Douro Valley. I’ll definitely be returning with my partner next time. Quinta da Estrada is a truly special place, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Nice wine evening learning about the rules and regulations and history of the wines. Luigi was very informative and spoke with passion about the wines they make (he doesn’t drink the white wine and only drinks the red with good food) - The accommodation is basic but clean and we slept well. The entrance to the courtyard parking is fun ! Very narrow! The people are lovely and we enjoyed it.

Wonderful stay here! Just a short drive from Regua with beautiful mountain and valley views. The staff is amazing….fast and friendly response to all questions or requests. The wine tasting dinner was well worth the price especially considering the time that the vintner spent provided much more interesting information than a typical tasting….not to mention the ample tasting size and great meal. I was fortunate to be allowed to join the crew in picking grapes which was something I had always wanted to do. Quiet and peaceful Quinta, with plenty of beautiful walking and hiking areas. We will be back!

A lovely and authentic place worth the trip! Very beautiful quinta nestled in the middle of the vineyards, offering dramatic views of the typical Douro's landscape. We opted for the wine tasting, which was very informative but a bit pricey for the simple meals we had. Quality of the wine and porto didn't suffer any criticism. The staff is very warm and welcoming, and we quickly feel at home, ready to enjoy our very comfortable room and stroll around the vineyards. This place is a hidden gem, quiet and perfect for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life

I just arrived back in Spain after I stayed here for 3 nights on a solo trip with my dog! I liked it so much I stayed the extra night & moved room to the Loft from the Galinheiro. The Loft has a roof terrace, fridge & microwave so you could prepare a small meal if you wanted. Both rooms were fabulous, clean & good facilities. I had dinner & wine tasting one night & dinner on my last night. My dog stayed in the room at dinner ( she could have joined me if she couldn’t be left alone) but joined me after the tasting along with dogs belonging to other guests who welcomed me to sit with their family! The wine tasting g was very interesting & informative. My dog & I were extremely welcomed, my dog joined me for breakfast each morning, I used the pool & explored the vineyards, & enjoyed the outside spaces to relax & read. The Winery dog Rex is an old boy who is no bother at all :) im vegan & they catered very well for me. I explored Pinhao taking a boat trip & Regua for lunch. I can’t wait to visit again with my Mom . Like is it their job to clean and not complain??? If they don't want to work, they should make way for someone else. And the second was the counter attendants, after I left the bathroom I went to the counter and asked the lady if they had called my number yet, she was on her cell phone doing I don't know what, and I had to repeat it louder for her. And then when I was attended to, when they were going to put an IV in me, the first nurse said something like "I don't really know how to put this on", an IV... Anyway, it was a horrible day. Some of the workers there seem to not even want to do the bare minimum, but oh well. Bridge
Ponte Miguel Torga is a stunning bridge that offers breathtaking views of the Douro Valley, a region celebrated for its lush landscapes and vineyards. As you traverse this impressive structure, you'll be captivated by the natural beauty surrounding it, reminiscent of the words of renowned Portuguese writer Miguel Torga. While driving over may limit your view due to protective rails, taking a bus or walking along the newly restored pedestrian walkway allows for an immersive experience in this picturesque setting.
It's a pity this bridge has protection rails at the same level of the eyes of car passengers. You can't, therefore, see much of the big river flowing under it. Much better if you are on a bus. It's not the bridge alone but also the whole motor-way that snakes through the green hills of the Douro Valley vineyards. Great landscape!

Vasques de Carvalho, a winery known for its authentic and flavorful Port wine, offers a great but expensive culinary experience in the local area. The establishment impresses with its genuine ambiance, highlighted by the presence of enormous wooden barrels just steps away from the tasting area. Visitors can enjoy a delightful time surrounded by knowledgeable staff who provide valuable insights about their products. The overall atmosphere is serene and calming, making it an amazing destination for enthusiasts of this renowned Portuguese wine.
We found this small tasting room in a guidebook, and stopped by to give it a taste after visiting some of the larger brands in the area. It was probably our favorite visit in Gaia. The staff was amazing, friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines they served us. We had a flight each, paired with a delicious bowl of mixed cheese and olives. And we ordered several glasses in addition. Everything we had was great, some of the best port we had in Porto. 100% recommend this place to anyone, no matter their experience with Port Wine coming into the shop.

I stopped in after reviewing good reports on here. I agree the port was really good and the salesman knowledgable. However he sold me a few bottles of Port for €125 a bottle, I later found the exact bottle and vintage with the same label on the internet for €60. A complete tourist trap rip off, not trustworthy, don’t risk it.

The passion and dedication of Luis' family, who live on the property, are evident throughout this exceptional experience.

We had a private wine tour (4 people) with a tour of the vineyard and a lot of beautiful wine and Port with gorgeous cheese and cured meat. Everything is organic from this family run vineyard. You will see incredible views and learn so much about Portugal and the Douro region. Being able to support a family run vineyard means a lot and gives you a much more personal experience. It was so much fun to visit Gueda Wines. Luís is such a cool and enthusiastic guy, you can really feel his passion for making wine and port wine. In addition the cheese platter was an awesome pairing with the wines. We had great discussions about a lot of different topics about wines and the Douro Valley region. A 100 per cent recommendation. It makes sense to ask for available spots for tastings via email in advance.

It was such a perfect and intimate experience! My boyfriend (now fiancé) proposed in the vineyard and it was more than I could ask for. Just for the wine itself, the tour is worth it. Luis is a great host and he has the kind of passion talking about the different processes and history of wine, port and olive oil that you can’t find everywhere. Definitely recommend!

We had a lovely wine tour at Gueda wines in Regua, Portugal, as part of our two day cruise. Luis is a great story teller who speaks excellent English and describes his wines and the estate with passion. We tasted quite a few wines and port and olive oil, accompanied by various cheeses. And we enjoyed the wine so much that we decided to buy some bottles and make room for them in our suitcases. I really enjoyed visiting a smaller wine house as the large, more industrial houses who are famous all over the world didn't seem as appealing to me and too touristic. This is a more authentic wine house where the owners work with a passion. Next time I might even stay over in their guest house.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic tasting and tour through the vineyards with Luís. The family owned winery is a great place to hang out and ask questions about wine in general and wine production in the Duoro Valley. We felt right at home and the wines and port wines as well as the cheese platter were really tasty and thoughtfully put together. We cannot recommend stepping by enough. You can really feel Luís passion and knowledge about wine and his family‘s business. Make sure to make a reservation beforehand, they are really quick with replying by mail though.

Teresa did a wonderfull job of guiding us on the history of Porto and Douro Wines, explaining with detail its origin and the history within the family Vieira de Sousa. The tasting was really good and we ended grabbing 10 year old Tawny that we both appreciated a lot. Would definitely recommend if you want a more familiar experience

What a fabulous experience at Viera de Sousa. We had no reservation and just turned up but Teresa could not have been more welcoming. She was very generous with her time and the wines were sublime; the aged white port and 40 year Tawny were real standouts. Thank you so much, highly recommend.

Scenic spot
Miradouro Torguiano offers a stunning view of the Douro Valley, making it a must-visit spot for travelers. It's recommended to take your time and not rush, as the drive from Porto can be quite long but definitely worth it. The viewpoint provides an excellent opportunity to capture breathtaking pictures of the valley and the river below. While some found the road challenging, others enjoyed biking up and experiencing the rough sandy trail on their way down.
Looking at the reviews seems like this is a common spot where all wine tour guides stop. The stop is de worth and the view of the valley is beautiful

We were on a Wine tour in the Douro valley and the guide stop to this location to give us the chance to take some pictures. Wow! What a great view of the valley.

Great view point. The city itself is not that special. There is a nice place to eat with terrace near the bridge. We came from Porto which is quite a drive. Although the view is spectacular, I would not advise if you are in a hurry. It takes a day to get there and back for "just" a view.
