In a tasteful decor. We all enjoy the Chef selection menu and we totally with Michelin who gave him two years in row a ⭐️. Service of course was excellent!

We recently visited with the gate one tour. The restaurant had nice decor and the staff were friendly. I wasn’t very impressed with the food though. We had the vegetarian entry which was beet rice. Our friends had a pescatarian option which was a seafood rice and our travel companions had beef. No one finished their meals. I suspect the quality may be better when they are not cooking for a large group though.

The food was exceptional. There were a couple of niggles I had in general but perhaps I'm just old fashioned. Firstly bread for the cover should always be served warm. Never serve beer in glasses with a brand name as this is for coffee shops and and cheap snack houses and finally I still believe that red and white wines should be served in different glasses. Apart from those observations my wife and I had a lovely evening savouring the 6 course tasting menu. It was a real treat except for the aforementioned observations. Thank you.

Nice restaurant but a bit overpriced the full experience. Totally for tourists. The service is really not good for being the “best restaurant in town”. The food was good, and that’s it. 50 euros per person without alcohol drinks, and sharing starters.

Fantastic Lunch in a stunningly renovated warehouse. We were greeted with a glass of cava. The steak cooked we. Dessert was out of this world. I would highly recommend! 😊

Interesting portuguese dishes with restaurant’s adaptation. The building of restaurwnt itself is authentic also very spacious. Good food, terrible service — left a bad taste overall No doubt the food is good and portions are fair, but the service was so awful it ruined the experience. My family of five went for an 8pm Sunday dinner. The restaurant was very quiet — about seven tables in use, mostly couples — and at least five servers were working. Three of us arrived first and were seated with three menus. When the remaining two arrived less than 10 minutes later, we asked for two more menus and were told there was only one available — in a mostly empty restaurant. Couvert: Server 1 offered the €3.50 couvert (a small assortment of bread with regular butter, black garlic butter, and hummus). Bread was cold and then never offered again, yet the condiments sat on the table through starters and mains before finally being cleared — was the hummus meant for my fish? Ordering: Server 2 appeared without introducing himself and abruptly asked if we were ready to order. His tone, pace, and body language were cold and unfriendly. We asked about the set menu, got the info we needed, and requested a few more moments. When we went to order wine, he pointed at a QR code and walked away. Server 3 then appeared to ask what wine we wanted. Three of us ordered a bottle, and the other two asked for cocktails. Drinks: The wine arrived and was poured, but after 10 minutes we had to flag down yet another server (Server 4 — the only friendly one) to ask about the cocktails. They arrived much later and then the food followed, which was delicious and well-portioned. After the initial wine pour, water was topped up by two different servers, and plates were cleared, but our wine glasses sat empty for 15 minutes with no refill. I eventually stood up and poured it myself. Server 3 topped it up only once more the entire night. Dessert & Coffee: Once mains were cleared, we were offered dessert. One dessert and three coffees were ordered. We were asked if we wanted the coffee with the dessert, and we said yes. Dessert came out and was finished before the coffee arrived — about a 15-minute gap. Why ask if you can’t serve them together? Having worked in high-end restaurants for 15+ years, I was honestly done at this point and just wanted to leave. Bill: I went to the counter to request the bill. I had booked via The Fork and thought a discount was applied — it wasn’t. When I asked, two servers tried to sort it out and Server 3 rather rudely pointed out it was my mistake. Fine — I had no issue paying the €300 bill. Server 3 insisted I return to the table to pay there and walked back with me. None of the staff had introduced themselves all night, and not once did anyone attempt to upsell, check in, or even ask for a tip — which would have been a firm zero. Final thoughts: Shocking service from start to finish. Cold attitudes, zero hospitality, no basic table awareness, and absolutely no professionalism. These people should not be in customer-facing roles. This is also apprently a Michelan Star restaurant? - Ha! Food alone isn’t enough — I do not recommend this place to anyone who values service.

This is a five out of five-star restaurant. The dishes were simply amazing and deliciously prepared. The pork with truffle was well-balanced, tasty, and juicy. The fish of the day was perfectly cooked and bursting with fresh flavor. The dessert was perfect as well. Every bite reflected the chef’s attention to detail and passion for fine cuisine. Highly recommended!

Absolutely lovely restaurant in Aveiro. Wonderful service. That would be enough to recommend, but I must add that they have the very best risottos we have ever enjoyed. They have at least 5 different risottos to match their varied dishes, and I suspect they are all just as delicious. Frankly, their prices are too low for the quality of the restaurant overall. You will need to make a reservation. I was able to do this via Facebook, I think, with an email confirmation. A don’t miss choice if visiting Aveiro.

I had lunch at O Bairro restaurant in Aveiro and had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was flavorful and authentically Portuguese. We had lunch there and the food was delicious! We’ve tried 3 types of risotto: with fish of the day, meat, mushrooms. All three were true gastronomical pleasure 😋 Deserts are amazing! Service is great. Definitely going to come again!

Excellent food, we had "market fish of the day" as well as vegetarian plates, both prepared in fine-cuisine style. Supreme desserts!! Slight catch if you don't like: mushrooms present in all offered vegetarian choices.

I had dinner in this restaurant 5 years ago. Until this day I remember what I had for the entree, main course and desert. I remember the taste of each. This is telling on how much I liked and was impressed with the food. Yesterday I went back to Aveiro just to repeat the experience, afraid that it might have changed. But it kept being the absolute best. I love it. Their specialty is the Risotos (they have 5 currently). But even if you have something else, you can expect high level cuisine full of technique and inspiration. But this time what impressed me the most was the desert. “Yuzu Mochi”.

The food was tasty but not particularly memorable, which made the price feel a bit high. The meat was also harder to cut than expected. Overall I had a nice time, though I’m not sure I would return.

Without being overly hyperbolic this place had some of the best prawns I have ever eaten. The clams were tasty but the sauce was a tiny bit thin. Still an amazing taste. The secrets of pork were like the pork version of wagu beef. Greasy but in such an amazing way.

Great spot right in the center next to the Mercado do Peixe. We arrived at 8 p.m. and were lucky to get a table on the terrace before it filled up. The seafood cataplana was excellent, served with crispy fries, and the petiscos da casa were delicious. Local white and sparkling wines/espumoso recommended by the manager were perfect — he’s very friendly and clearly passionate about wines. Highly recommended!

Had the grilled sea bream with a side of vegetables and a bottle of sparkling water (53 euros). Kind of pricey for one person but the fish was perfect and the table side preparation was wonderful. Had to deduct a little from the service score because the service slowed to non-existent when the place got busy (likely due to the elaborate table side prep). The meal was a divine indulgence but I'm unlikely to do it again.

Been here twice and have had a lovely experience each time. Delicious food, especially the sea bass and the seafood rice. Our waiter, Paul, showed a lot of professionalism and charisma. Highly recommend and will come back next time we’re in Aveiro!!

Really good fish soup followed by an amazing grouper and prawns dish with rice and a very light cheese an lemon tart for desert. I will no doubt visit again

We took the bacalhau in the bread, and it was the only dish we ordered, so this may not be a full reflection of the restaurant. We thought the dish was a bit dry and lacked sauce. We also had trouble understanding the purpose of the thick bread surrounding the bacalhau as it didn't bring much to it in terms of flavors. However, the bacalhau in itself was very tasty, and the house wine was good!

This is a truly delicious local's spot Don't listen to the low reviews. They're not typical a travel-oriented spot where they try to lure you in to eat at their restaurant. they're too busy serving customers!! They don't have time to hand hold and be overly friendly... We stood in line at the door. No one said anything to us at all, we waited patiently for 5 or 10 minutes till a table was available... They ushered us to a charming table and we were greeted by a most lovely Portuguese woman who didn't really speak English. She had an amazing smile and a warm heart and totally made you feel welcome. The food was absolutely amazing! The best we've had in Portugal yet and the staff was quite charming 🙂 they were all very gracious and nice. They just don't run to the door and greet you as you walk in. You have to be patient. It was so worth the meal. Truly amazing we had the pork and a delicious salad. Highly recommend this place

I had the octopus a lagareiro. The waitress recomended the chicken espetadas for the kids. The octopus was ok, but the chicken was dryyyy, rubbery. It was not pleasant... at all!

Super charming spot that you need to be prepared to line up for but it is worth it! The portions are large, even a half portion was enough for two. Not only were we amazed by the great selection of delicious dishes, but also by their great wine selection. We had a wonderful experience there and even got to taste some of the best Portuguese traditional dishes. The food was really scrumptious and the prices were very reasonable, making it an attractive option for anyone looking for amazing Portuguese cuisine. The friendly staff made us feel so welcomed that it felt like we were at home! All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves good food and great wine selection.

Food was delicious! Was hard to chose only four! Did manage to chose several dishes, but two were really meant for two people. They looked so amazing we ordered them anyway as it would be our only chance to experience this amazing food. It was worth it! Pleasant atmosphere, attentive. One of the most sour servers I have seen in a while. Wouldn’t exchange any words, just begrudgingly nodded me to a seat. She didn’t answer questions about the menu and looked at me like I’m an idiot. I would have assumed she was a mute or didn’t speak English, but she did that very well with other tables that were around. I also got a disapproving sigh about ordering just a glass of wine. Maybe that’s why she decided to not bring me the water I ordered. The prawn appetizer was overcooked and the shrimp rubbery (but they were good quality I guess, because they still tasted good…that’s the second star there). I got the pork belly and it was quite tough, I definitely gave my jaw a workout there. I tried calling the server for some mayo for the fries, but she turned her back on me and ignored me (yes…I was short of shouting…the table two over looked up). I know this is a tourist trap restaurant, I get it….but at least be nice.

The food was ok, waited 30 minutes for the food. The service was terrible as the waiter was not accessible and kept forgetting to bring cutlery, napkins, glasses and condiments. We asked for water for the table and he only gave one glass and left. All the dishes were supposed to come with salad, fries, and rice, but there was only a spoon of rice each on the plate.

The food was actually good, once we got it. The service was horrible. I have never experienced such bad service. There were six of us at the table only two received the correct meal, one of us didn’t even receive a meal. We practically had to beg to be waited on. When the bill came, it was completely wrong. They asked my daughter to come to the computer to help them correct it. But again, the food that we got was good - even though it wasn’t what was ordered!

Oh the Mix Grilled Fish plate for two was amazing! And they even added some sardines for us to try. If you love fish... you will just LOVE this plate! The patatoes and the salad was also delicious.

Second time here eating the same dish first time we came in 30 minutes before opening at lunch on a Friday. Anyway they accept to serve us and that they should have plus points for service good we got everything on the table for eating our grilles sea-bass olive oil vinegar-salt pepper and so on. The dish was ok fish beautiful grilled good taste but the sallad felt old and soggy the potatoes was just potatoes but thinking its good fish and maybe the other just we where early ! So come back at Sunday afternoon walked in now Im alone and said eating one person they answer back please be seated where you want restaurant had two guests rest of tables free about 20 table free. I always pick a table protected and against wall or window with my back free feeling comfortable. The table I picked no no wrong must select in the middle wherever anyone walks. So here it starts I get offended and pocked the less worse table, let the customer sitt where he want if not busy and can aware the seat. food same and now the fish fas over cooked and dry others same and I did not get any oliv oil salt pepper vinegar, the lemon served on the plate was so dry could not get any juice out from it. Conclusion is if eating the fish there some days you get good service snd delicious fish and good service Next day not and the vegetables sallad is just there with no finesse

We were greeted by a really nice waiter. So we decided to have lunch here. I was a little disappointed with offerings in the menu. I was looking for an octopus dish in particular. Nevertheless, I settled for the steak and it was ok. The others order fish and they also liked it. The only reason I'm give 4* star is that the service was really professional and friendly.

Delicious lunch today at Restaurante Ferro. We took Miguel's recommendations, who by the way speaks perfect English, and ordered grilled sea bass and grilled pork ribs. Both dishes were prepared perfectly and tasted great. The lunch at Ferro was definitely one of the highlight of our day trip to Aveiro. Highly recommended! UPDATE: We returned to Aveiro 4 years later, in 2023. We had to go back to Ferro and try them again. The food, the service, and the ambiance were as good as we engendered it.

While passing through Aveiro, we thought we'd grab something to eat. After a short walk through the city streets, we found this restaurant where we decided to stop for a bite to eat.We didn't have high expectations but we were pleasantly surprised ordering something basic from their menu of the day. Overall it was very tasty and cheap, worth trying if you're in a hurry and you don't have enough time to explore the city in search of the perfect restaurant

It is in the center and the right next to my hotel , the waiter was very nice and welcoming , the food did not take long and it was really nice . The octopus salad was really good , and the shrimp was delicious as well , the only comment i have is that the shrimp was not deveined and i had to clean it. But otherwise , satisfied with the service and the quality. Would visit again.

We stopped by this place by chance without checking any reviews, and that was our mistake. We ordered grilled shrimp and squid, and they arrived completely burned. The waiter just said that's how it's supposed to be. Very disappointing. The wine was good, though.

Food was not good. Stale chips, beef very undercooked(asked for medium rare got barely rare) Waitress and waiter were very nice but very understaffed and took a long time. We had lunch here and chose the daily special. I had the cod casserole-type dish, cod with cream, and my husband had the duck rice. Both meals were delicious and the special included bread, two glasses of wine. We also ordered dessert and my husband had an espresso. All included it was less than €30. Great deal! We went there at 19h sharp, and there was no need for a reservation. We took the platter of presunto and cheese, the seafood mix, and the chocolate mouse/pavlova desert. The food was amazing with correct proportions, but I haven't been there enough to know if it's consistent. I recommend our order due to the quality, quantity, and price... 1 star down for the unpleasant service we received from one of the waiters there who was completely arrogant and unfriendly. We have visited the place a month ago, just able now to write this review. We came to the place for it had good reviews, but if we had a slight idea about how we will be treated we would have never visited that place. Upon ordering, we asked for the tomato butter that comes as an entry and their special paté. The guy asked any bread? We said no thanks. In a very sarcastic rude way and an arrogant smile on his face he said: so how will you be eating the butter and tomato? My husband politely told him we thought that it is already served with it. He said: No! We then asked only for the paté, and the 2 main dishes ( 2 different seafood risottos) and white wine. We had the wine at first, and kept waiting for more than 20 minutes for anything to be served. Before those 20 mins, he came by and said that the food is being ready that he can see it almost done. We reminded him that we had asked for the paté. He confidently said: I know! And left us. After a while, still nothing is served. Only the main dished after 25 minutes. We were surprised and asked him about the same thing again, he said I forgot, sorry! I was really tired and the food was already late and he was unbelievable due to his attitude so I quietly said It's ok, while I was already planning to write here what happened instead of making a fuss! Seriously what kind of service was this!!! On a fair note, the dishes were incredible and tasty. Seafood was fresh and the risotto was delicious. The only thing that has disappointed us specially that it was one of those first restaurants to visit in Portugal is the service. I recommend the food, the place was clean and quiet, but the service is not what we have expected at all. Such a disappointing experience in a place that should treat people well while dining in.

We tried to call for a same-day reservation, but they explained that last-minute bookings weren’t possible and suggested we try our luck by passing by the restaurant, which we did. Fortunately, we managed to get a table, and it was absolutely worth it! The atmosphere is modern, with a simple yet elegant decoration. The food was excellent. We ordered a starter the O Pastel De Bacalhau. As main we ordered Lombo De Robalo, Tomate e o Manjericão and Bacalhau e a Manga. Both beautifully cooked, full of flavor and presented with care. Portions are generous, and the service throughout the evening was good, however not spectacular. Which is spectacular though is the presentation of the desserts. Both, Laranja e os Sabores Do Bosque and O Amendoim e o Caramelo are being put to fire for some show effect. Necessary? No. Fun to watch? For sure. Located near the canal area of Aveiro, this place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great Portuguese cuisine. Highly recommended, to be repeated!

Anyone who has been to Portugal quickly understands the importance of cod (bacalhau) in Portuguese cuisine. Being Portuguese myself, I have to confess that I was the exception since I never really understood the cult being this ingredient. After visiting Bacalhau & Afins I have changed my kind. The way they prepared cod is nothing short of a work of art. The dishes were original and flavourful mixing ingredients in a unique way which paired with melt in your mouth cos made the dinning experience absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend it enough.

Stopped off on the way from Porto to Fatima for lunch. Nice table outside, helpful friendly service and reasonable prices. The dumplings were perfect and the codfish with potatoes and mayonnaise was delicious. The inside is very cosy and I think it would be excellent for dinner.

While starters were fast to deliver and very tasty, the main dishes took 30min to deliver and were disappointing. Too many contrasting but not suited elements on the plate. Cod was chewy and not that flavorful. Potatoe puree almost tasted like pre-made fome package. Overall, good, but the experience was not that great.

This traditional francesinha was delicious, and huge!! I would say enough for 2 people, and it comes with the most amazing, crispy fries. The service was attentive, friendly and fast. I did not hear anyone speaking English here, so I think it is a locals’ place, off the beaten path, and authentic. Highly recommended!

First time trying this delicious sandwich. I went for the original and my wife had the tuna. The restaurant has a small menu but a great selection. One sandwich comes with chips and is enough for two!

Food/drinks: Vegetarian francesinha was good. The sausage and burger were tasty. The sauce was not the best I’ve tasted in regards to vegetarian francesinhas. However my friends that had the normal one loved their sauce. The water was filtered from the tap (which they told us beforehand) - but the taste was not nice, in contrary to other tap waters I’ve drank in other places. And they didn’t have bottled water. 1L was 2€. My friend asked for a cider that cost 4,6€ so be attentive of the drinks you order Service: All the staff was very kind and attentive Atmosphere: was a busy day so it’s difficult to make a proper evaluation

Returning to this restaurant for the second time, our expectations were once again exceeded. After over ten years of honest exploration in Portugal, I can confidently say that this restaurant stands out as one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The food was flawless, with the daily fish being particularly delicious, along with all the appetizers we sampled. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great food. Had the set menu - everything was great. The scallop with green apple caviar and beurre blanc sauce was incredible. Server was friendly and gave good explanations of the dishes. It was a bit away from the historic center of Aveiro but worth the walk or short Uber.

I went there with a friend to celebrate a professional achievement, and we chose this restaurant based on the reviews we found online. We went there with high expectations but the whole experience was really disappointing!! Starting with charging the Couvert (bread, butter and pâté) per person, I really do not understand the logic here! What if a group of ten people goes there and only half of them ate the couvert, those who did not eat would still pay 2€ each for something that they didn’t even try?! As starters, we ordered the prawns (6 prawns) and tuna ceviche (both not included in the menu here). They both tasted nice but the ceviche was served as two mini tacos with literally un-chewable mini tortilla. We also got the vegetable soup that was average. For main dishes we ordered “Braised octopus tentacle” and the “Low temperature oxtail”. The oxtail was acceptable, a small cuboid with purée and some vegetables. However, the octopus (served with sweet potato puree and a small pot of octopus pearl barley) was dry and flavorless with very very hard skin that I needed to spit out some bites for not being able to chew them, it definitely does not represent the world-famous Portuguese octopus. After not being asked our opinion about the main dishes, our choice for dessert was the almond cake. While the cake itself (sponge cake with the “Aveirense” egg cream “ovos moles” with some almond flakes on top) was covered with an overwhelming amount of powder sugar, it was served with nice cinnamon ice-cream. At the end, all we wanted was finishing the meal with a nice cup of coffee, so I ordered an espresso and my friend ordered an “abatanado” (an espresso with some more water) and a “GLASS” of water with coffee. We got coffee from a commercial brand that was almost double the price of specialty coffee at a coffee roaster café, and instead of the glass of water I asked for, I got a 2.5€ 30cl bottle of water. Maybe having high expectations is the reason behind this negative review but I genuinely find everything we ordered very overpriced for what it is.

The portion sizes were pretty huge! We honestly could have shared one of the dishes + 2 soups and therefore been able to eat dessert. However, our waiter wasn’t very informative in that manner. Just wanting to push sales for the tasting menu (we both felt). And thus we were too full to eat dessert :( The food was so good we ordered home delivery again the next day (the polvo). I feel like a dining experience should be the whole package. And for me the service could have been better in terms of actually recommending and advising instead of trying to sell. The fish soup is amazing here!

Ostraveiro – Unique Location, Mixed Experience Ostraveiro is definitely a special place with a wonderful atmosphere. Getting there by boat ride makes the experience unique and sets the mood for something memorable. The staff was polite, but unfortunately also quite distracted—several times I had to go and place my order myself, which took away from the overall enjoyment. As for the food, the oysters were very good and fresh, but the rest of the seafood was disappointing. The calamari were tough and difficult to chew, and the other dishes didn’t quite meet expectations. Overall, Ostraveiro is worth visiting for the location and ambiance, but the service and quality of seafood need improvement to match the uniqueness of the setting.

We had such a lovely dinner at Ostraveiro! We arranged a small boat transfer with the restaurant and they picked us up from a nearby marina. We went for dinner but I’d love to have lunch there, in the relaxed outdoor setting by the water, with a trampoline and grassed area that the kids could run around. (I wish I’d taken some photos!) We sat in the beautiful dining room, by the window, overlooking the water and enjoyed a variety of the freshest oysters, mussels (green lipped) and a razor clam & shrimp stew that was absolutely more-ish. The wine list is great and the staff are so friendly. I absolutely recommend popping here for lunch or dinner if you are nearby!

I wouldn't risk my health eating oysters at this place again. Actually, I will never eat raw oysters any time in the future as I have been traumatized for life. We went to this place on Saturday 23 of March, a group of 4 people. We all had to suffer from severe stomach pain, dirreah, nausea, and vomiting for an entire week after eating oysters. The staff are very friendly and the place is unique too. But that doesn't add any value when the food is the most important, and in this case, it has failed to a point where one can only question what is happening behind the scenes at this place? Take care out there, and don't fool yourselves into something this risky.

Wonderful, slightly hipster, place that has opened up in January 2017. Serves many Portuguese classics (such as Pica-Pau) in a modern and delicious way plus interesting international dishes (e.g. Burger) - always with a surprise touch. Definitely a great new spot to visit. You better reserve your table in advance, because the restaurant is only small and cozy. The super friendly staff will be glad to help, I am sure!

This is a very nice lunch place! Young chef makes a fusion of Japanese and Portuguese food! Very delicious! We go every year to Japan and the Miso soup here was easily as good as there! Everything is made with love and you can taste it! Nice Deco!

One of the best surprises of our 2 week trip through Portugal. The food was so good, amazing to get many small dishes (petiscos) all with different flavors. And the presentation of the food is so beautiful, everything is served in a different way and many dishes are presented on beautiful Portuguese ceramic tableware. I came here by accident because everything else was closed after Christmas Day. I had the Bitoque and it was easily one of the best meals i have eaten in Portugal. Portuguese cuisine is my absolute favourite and these guys took it to a level of perfection. Thank you for the beautiful meal I will be back again!

Most creative food we have had yet in Portugal. Everything, from the starters to the fish of the day, main courses and desserts was a unique approach to fresh and many times local ingredients. Of special note, were the beetroot gravlax, fish of the day and the basil panna cotta. Wine pairing was well chosen and service was friendly and well informed. We were very grateful for our server's nearly flawless English and willingness to indulge our painfully lacking Portuguese. I would come back to this town just to go to this restaurant on a future trip to Portugal.

The pastry is amazing! Everything is beautifully decorated and looks delicious. The croissant framboise is divine! The only downside was the waiting time. I had to wait a couple of minutes just for someone to hand me my takeaway pastry, which was already prepared.

What a lovely patisserie with a fantastic selection of pastries and baked goods. We tried three different cakes and loved them all - the favorite was probably “Mademoiselle.” The cappuccino and BonBon coffee were fine (though the BonBon was a bit too sweet for my taste). We came across this bakery trying to find a coffee place, we were surprised by the amazing aesthetics of this place! We ordered vegan truffles and dairy-free healthy peanut butter pancakes, along with cocktails from the special menu that looked amazing! The cage cocktail was like jin tonic with strawberries which was very sweet, and the other cocktail had a unique combination of moet & chandon, vodka, hibiscus and mint, tasted a bit strong but good overall. They also serve oath milk/almond milk and have some vegan/dairy-free options.

We've been here as a couple looking for vegan food. The good reviews lead us here. We've been greeted by the waitress with a list of different languages instead of a hello and should have left right then. I myself went to the bathroom first and my girlfriend waited for me at the table. When I came back she told me the waitress wanted to know what we would like to have while I was away. As soon as I sat down she reappeared and asked "decided?" with a grunty face. Over the course of only about 5 minutes she asked three times while there were only 3 tables seated. As starters we had falafel with teriyaki sauce and hummus toast with vegetables. Both for 5€. The starter of my partner arrived first and I had to wait about 10 minutes for mine while hers was already getting cold. The main course - 2 hamburgers - arrived shortly after we finished our first plate. The sweet potato chrisps (not fries/chips!) were far too crispy. The burger was dry and the bread seemed not done. I regret to say, as I would love to support more 100% vegan restaurants, that the food really isn't as good as reviewed by others and the waitress seemed to have a really bad day.

The only negative point is the size of the restaurant which forces us to make reservation to be sure to have a place. Besides of that the food is amazing !

What an amazing find. We are big fans of Chinese food and eat it at least once every couple of weeks where ever we are in the world. Tonight’s meal ranks as one of the best. The food was superb; from sweet and sour chicken to sizzling beef, it was faultless. And value for money was off the chart. Not least we had a lovely bottle of house red for about €6.50 that was excellent. If you are in Aveiro, treat yourself and eat here.

One of the greatest experiences I’ve had recently! From the moment we arrived, all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with my 3 yo son who was a bit unsettled at the beginning. The atmosphere is unique and the food is fantastic!! They accommodate all the dietary requirements, including for pregnant women 🤩 We will definitely be Back!!

We visited around midday and the food was excellent overall – only one of the rolls in the combo wasn’t to our taste. However, I wanted to point out something that left a negative impression: we noticed that the hostess at the reception was offering a complimentary glass of wine to most guests as a welcome gesture. My husband and I are relaxed people and currently on vacation, so we were quite surprised that we were not offered the same, especially when it seemed that everyone else around us was. It is served with all sorts of effects like smoke and big decorative plates which are very instagrami. Because of these so many decorations and effects the sushi is overshadowed. Beautiful design of the place, very good service though. If you dont make a reservation you get a free glass of sparkling wine for the wait, so perhaps I would recommend not to reserve a table if you want this perk.

Amazing meal! The mixed platter for 2 (110€) was plenty for my very hungry family of 4, next time we would also order 4 seafood soups (best in the world, dairy free). Freshly weighed before cooking, I wouldn’t mind heading there from Porto to sit at the bar in the back. Our total was 140€, including wine, a steak, 2 soups, moules. We could barely eat dinner, this meal was so good and plentiful.

We came here for dinner as we wanted to try sapateira (crab). For the starters we had some bread with butter and vegetable soup. Soup was nice, nothing too special. Crab was good, one was enough for 2 people. I wouldn't say that sapateira was something wow, it was ok. It had some crab shell in the mix, not sure if it's supposed to be like this or not, but not the best experience.

The lowest reviews for O Batel are accurate regarding the service here. The owner literally threw me out of the restaurant for ordering octopus salad and not a multi-course meal. I also ordered a beverage. I explained that I might order something additional afterwards. (I was not feeling well and wanted to test my appetite.) He became incensed, parading me through the restaurant as he shouted that I should go "order a snack at a bar... this is a restaurant, we serve food." How ridiculous and humiliating. I have never been treated like this -- or seen anyone else treated this way -- at any restaurant, ever. The couple who sat next to me were in shock. I hope the owner gets his anger under control.

After the last renovation/Expansion they became a really cozy, typical Brazilian BBQ place where they don't rush you to eat and give you plenty of time to relax and have some Caipirinhas and some very good beers from the Bottle, as well as the local beer from Tap. This will stay my favorite BBQ place in the whole of Portugal as long as i am alive. REALLY Recommended when you are ever in town. But advise is to reserve a table because in Summertime it can get very busy. 🥩🍗🍖🍻🍷🍸

Delicious! We got the all you can eat sushi festival menu. They will bring you a huge boat with an assortment of sushi and sashimi- then you can order more as needed. The service was top notch.

Pizza was very good, but not the top special level. The large pizza is not really large just regular 30cm pizza. The pizza dough was very white. Salmon pizza was regular. The vegetarian one really surprised me.

Fantastic food. Mainly pizza and pasta. Service could be a bit faster, but, staff is friendly. The mood of the restaurant is amazing, with all the light and open spaces and art and books. Parking is difficult as this is in central Aveiro and at meal times everyone is flooding into restaurants. We had to walk a bit to our car.

A year ago the quality of the dishes was much better. This time we were disappointed with the flavors. Everything was bland and without proper seasoning.

I dined in at Pizzarte recently and even though I had to wait a bit for a table since they prioritize large bookings, the service was fast and attentive once I was seated. I ordered a quattro stagioni pizza, which was delicious. The crust was good and the toppings tasted fresh. I liked that the pizza was built in sections allowing you to enjoy each ingredient individually.

A Portuguese city, Italian food, cocktails served in cup and saucer (why not?), famous book titles (and others not so much. At least not to me), the beginning of a chapter of a new book every Friday, delicious food and drinks (do try the “apple champanhada”) and really friendly staff. A good way to end the day ⭐️

It's not only about volume though, the locale is like a big cement cave without any noise dampening. 🍕 The pizza. It's the soft type of dough, cheese is good. The pizzas lack flavor though, especially the vegetarian one which is like a bread with steamed unseasoned vegetables. Service. Goood! Nice, friendly and fast 🤗 Btw the light is those old bulbs from the early 2000s that makes lines on your camera 🤷‍♂️

Great location above the seafood market. We ordered fish soup (it was ok, nothing special), fried eel (excellent if you like eel), and a salad with papaya (average). My friend had steak with shrimp. The menu stated it comes with rice and french fries, but she got homemade chips only.

No.1 Portuguese Suckling Pig in this area, probably Portugal! Beautiful mix of pepper, garlic and salt as seasoning stuffed in Pig body, grilled to achieve greasy lard oil as sauce. Crispy skin and tender meat with tempting pepper flavoured. Apart from Suckling, restaurant also serve nice drinkable wines, and other pig dishes.

Excellent place to eat. Good assortmet of fish and meat dishes. A good choice if you want to test local specialities. Service very kind and helpful. A bit slow in serving but perhaps I have this impression because I am used to Spanish restaurants which use to have faster services than in other countries, including Portugal, so it might be normal time for many customers.

Widely recommended. All the first was fresh, they brought the fresh fishes in a big plate to saw them! The staff speak English, Portuguese and Spanish. We arrived without reserve and they had available a table with nice views. Also they have a good selection of wines.

This is a great place for a quiet fish- or seafood-based meal, just above the fish market. The service was prompt and friendly. We were shown the fresh fish that they had for the day, should we opt for grilled fish, but we ended up choosing the prawn curry and fish soup. Delicious! Would definitely repeat, and I would like to try their other specialties some other time.

Found this place just looking through the maps of the area trying to find a local restaurant. At first as we walked up I was sceptical as it was so indiscernible as a restaurant except for the people coming in and out for take out. Once we walked in there was a full restaurant awaiting us. The waiter was fantastic and I myself was quite excited to eat at a place that specializes in cod fish (bacalhau). Well I can say it did not disappoint, the cod and smash potatoes were amazing and the wine selection was fantastic. We had a great meal at a restaurant that I’d recommend to anyone that enjoys a good meal. The one thing I’ll also highly recommend is the Natas to Ceu congeladas. Anyone that’s had this as it’s normally presented and is a fan will absolutely love the ice cream version of it. So please, treat yourself to a local gem of a restaurant

One of the best cod I've ever eaten. It's all about the way they cook it. Try the "migas" with the main course and "ovas de bacalhoa" and "pataniscas" for appetizers. Very good choice of wines. And for dessert try "natas do céu com ovos moles". Delicious. Highly recommended.

Our Portuguese friend from Aveiro took us there while we visited the city. I think it was the best fish I have ever eaten in my life. I didn’t think you could make cod so tasteful. Soft, tender and absolutely deliciously seasoned. Baked potatoes are out of this world. If you are around Porto/Aveiro area you have to eat there and try their bacalhau. It might be the best fish you ever had. It surely was for me.

For what it is and the price I'd say it's perfect. Tasty, great atmosphere and fast and friendly service. Great with hangry kids.

It was incredible! fresh products, well-chosen simple flavors.

The place is very easy to miss from the outside. The name is written in italics. But it's really worth it. There is a lot of tables there, but the place tends to get full. The burgers (main dish) don't look like much, but they are really tasty. Basically, you can either build your own burger, order from the menu or add ingredients as you wish. It tasted good. The fries are also quite good (just the right amount of crunchiness). Overall a good experience and it's also not very expensive. Basic burger is around 4 EUR. This makes it not only tasty but also good for a budget lunch. And the toilets are clean. Recommend visiting.

What a find. A really cheap menu with loads of burger choices, the decor is excellent, as is the service. Even better than that, drinks are rock bottom prices.

Localized burgers that are quite juicy, however wasn't a fan of having minced pork meat due to the bland flavours. But the service was great and the place itself was very modern and had good amenities. Considering the price of 3-4€ still worth a go.

Stumbled across this place after walking past 20-30 restaurants in the area. We were hangry. Did not leave hangry. Left happy, full, shaking our heads at every bite of everything on the mixed grill meat plate (for 2) and the staff were impeccable as was the wine. Highly recommend you find this - ask for Tiago and Lara!

I had lunch in Porta 35 on weekend and it wasn’t crowded at all. Nice atmosphere, good music and service is good too. I tried Spaghetti Chicken Curry, it was a little spicy and so tasty! We had dinner on a Friday and it wasn't crowded. We waited 15-20 minutes only. The place has a cosy atmosphere, and the waiters are very friendly. It is a good restaurant to eat burgers but you can also have pastas and salads. The burgers were very tastful, but, personally, I found them a little bit salty and too well-done. Nevertheless, we will come back again!

Cozy Resto-Bar with limited but good selection of Tapas and some salads. Their main focus is on the burgers which looked good but we unfortunately did not try. The wings are excellent and so good we ordered it twice. The steak salad was also excellent with tender strips of "roast beef" which were actually sirloin. Tasty chicken strips. Very friendly, welcoming and very attentive service.

Good service, delicious food and good ambient. Bit slow due to the hour (14:15), but kind staff. Porta dos Fundos burger was great, fries are simply amazing, and chicken wings are delicious too, just a little spicy so everyone can enjoy them, even kids.

Honestly disappointed! Cold Burger, salty sauce, bad bread (not fresh) and low amount of chips. The service was slow and by stages... Honestly, doesn't justify the cost. If you can just skip this experience. If not, good luck! P.S: even if you ask for a medium rare burger, they always come dry as a shoe!

Just had the worst vegan “burger”ever. Not really a burger as there was no patty - just two inedible, undercooked slices of aubergine, a slice of tomato, a piece of lettuce and a dollop of hummus on a dry bun. No “purple onion and grilled apple chutney” as advertised. €7.20. More expensive than most of the meat burgers on the menu. Rip-off. Avoid at all costs.

A very typical Portuguese restaurant, just a 5–7 minute walk from the center. People often don’t go there because it’s not on a tourist route, but it’s absolutely worth it. Fresh fish, very kind servers, it was really hot outside and the waiter even lent me his fan 🪭 so I could enjoy my meal more comfortably. That was incredibly kind. The portions are very generous, the food is incredibly good, and the value for money is excellent. I recommend it 1000%!

Absolutely delicious. I had the best Ensopado de Peixe ever and far beyond my expectations. I wish I had more space in my stomach to eat more. My friends also had the Bacalhau com broa which at starting they thought it was too much food but in the end there was nothing left. The doses are generous and somehow pricey but depending on the number of people at the table and how much each one eats I think you can get a good deal and value for money. This place is popular and not very spacious so I highly recommend booking a table in advance or expect a long wait at the door.

Saw someone get the “special seafood with rice” at least that is how it translates. And so we tried it… wow, it’s definitely seafood and quite the experience to try all the different seafood in a heavy broth! 😋 🤤 But, all though it says for two people I think it will feed four people! 💪🏽 (Confirmed when the family of 4 sat down next to us two and ordered the same thing) We couldn’t even finish half… all though I sure tried! Obviously a super local place as we saw the staff recognize many people. However, even with the language barrier and packed out restaurant we were treated really well! Highly recommended if you want some family dining. 😎 Basically the restaurant name translates “at our home”. So eat like you are at our home!

I totally recommend this restaurant. From the food to the service, everything was great. We had starters and a bottle of the lovely Planalto wine. For main we opted for the Cataplana and it was absolutely delicious. The gentleman serving us was so friendly and fun, made us feel very welcome. What an amazing dinner we had. A place to certainly come back every time we go to Aveiro.

The six of us had a blast here, sat outside, ate seafood: grilled sardines were excellent, same with the seafood stew and sea bass. They have good wine.

Pretty nice cafe bar and restaurant at the picturesque city of Aveiro. Nice for coffee or tapas and good variety of wines, with beautiful view of the city canal. Beautiful decorated indoor seating, outdoor seating is also available. Nice for all times of day.

Our group of 6 walked in with no reservations. Pedro was extremely accommodating and helped us with our order. Everything was fantastic.

Fried seabass was tasty, but the rest of food not. Everything super oily. Didn't like it.

We arrived just before the lunch break, but the friendly staff didn’t hesitate to serve us. The overall impression was very pleasant and homely. The food was fabulous! The seafood 🐙was exceptionally fresh, the side dishes generously portioned, and the total price was a pleasant surprise. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back soon! Applause 👏🏻!

I came back on vacation, and after eating there four times, I have to tell you the food, service, and staff are better than outstanding... The food was good and the staff was very friendly. The service was quite fast. The only thing is that at the beginning they brought us some bread and appetizers which we hadn't ordered and then charged it.

The food here is absolutely amazing. I was shocked at how delicious the food is here. It also was very affordable, 15€ per person for lunch. There is an open grill at the entrance that I'm sure keeps the place warm in the winter time. If you have already taken the ferry to sao Jacinto I recommend this place as the first stop.

Really nice place. Really authentic. We found it as a suggestion in Lonely Planet. Fish was very fresh and good quantity. We over ordered a bit though... Grilled dourada was superb and so were the ameijoas (half portion more than enough for two). Grilled squid was a bit dry. Service was good and friendly. Worth coming by at least once, although location is not so handy.

One of the best family restaurants in Portugal! Everything is fresh and homemade. The service was exceeding my exceptions. A very big choice of fresh catched fish and wines. I was staying in Aveiro,but the 40-50 minute drive to them really worth it. Thank you again family and see you next year!

The best “Leitão á Bairrada” that you can taste is here. Don’t miss it! Well located. Lots of parking spots. If you drive your car to Mugasa, finding a parking spot is no problem. At the restaurant for your meal, I personally would jump the starters to go straight to the “leitao”. And don’t take me wrong, because the starters are great, but the “Leitao” is really what makes Mugasa shine 👍👍 and don’t forget about a good sparkling wine that goes lovely with “Leitao”. Highly recommend Mugasa for it’s Leitao 👍👍

I was recommended this place by my cousin for the regional speciality of Leitão (slow roasted pig) and it did not disappoint. Personally i am not a lover of the dish but the rest of the table highly recommended it and I had the Chinfana, another regional dish of goat stewed in wine which was divine. Would highly recommend.

Unacceptable treatment — will not return. Despite the quality of the food, our experience was completely ruined by the appalling service. As the only non-Portuguese-speaking table, we were met with open disrespect, dismissiveness, and rudeness from the staff. It was clear we were treated differently, and frankly, it was insulting. No meal — no matter how well prepared — is worth enduring that kind of behavior. Avoid if you expect even basic education.

Best leitão I have ever had. The new rooms are very nice and the service is excellent. Price is fair. Definitely recommend.

Terrible experience – disorganized and rude This restaurant is completely disorganized when it comes to reservations and dishonest about waiting times. We were told to wait much less than we actually had to, and when we raised the issue, the staff were rude and disrespectful instead of apologetic. Very unprofessional service – definitely not recommended.

Ordered a sandwich and a Fanta for lunch. Was a big group and in total we ordered two sandwiches and to toast. It took some time to get our food and it was pretty simple sandwiches to make. They forgot to make one of the sandwiches wich was mine, so I did not get my food. After a long time we decided to not get them to make another. The staff did not talk english that well. Nice spot for lunch, but unlucky with the food.

Stopped in earlier in day for drinks. Other patron was very happy with their salad; we returned for dinner. The suckling pig is delicious. We ordered a plate of leitao and a sandwich with cheese. Both were delicious- we may be back! Service was quick and friendly. Recommend

Review of Leitão de Levira I tried their specialty – a kind of sandwich with roast pork and homemade potato chips on the side. It was my first time tasting this type of dish, and I was pleasantly surprised – the flavor was quite good. I chose the version with cheese, which had a slightly sharp taste, but it worked fine overall. The chips I got at first were a bit soft, probably from sitting out too long. However, when the waiter came to check if everything was okay, I mentioned it, and he immediately brought out a fresh portion that was crispy and much better. Great service and an interesting food experience!

Leitao tasted good, but a portion is quite small. Service was fast and friendly, allowing me to replace chips with salad. Quite touristic.

The food was really good, but only visit if you have the patience to put up with the worst service. We were seated on the terrace and it seemed as though the staff's job was to ignore the customers specially if they don’t speak Portuguese.

Nice Mexican interior, many different decorations including a piranha aquarium. Very friendly staff, no problem to enter with small dog (pet friendly). All dishes were served quickly. For me the most tasty was Enchiladas. Tacos was good, but expected more interesting sauce and spices. Unfortunately no burritos in the menu.

This was one of the best Mexican meals we have ever had! Miguel took incredible care of us. The margaritas were outstanding and they were very knowledgeable about gluten free foods. Meeting up by chance with friends from home was an added bonus. I cannot recommend Un Poco Loco highly enough.

During a recent visit we sampled a small range of their offerings, including guacamole with nachos, pork carnitas, and a taco de pulpo. The guacamole, while fresh and creamy, lacked depth — notably missing garlic, which could have elevated its flavor. The accompanying nachos were visibly store-bought, as we could see them being poured from a bag from our table. While the combination was pleasant and satisfying, it lacked the punch and authenticity expected from a freshly prepared appetizer. The pork carnitas were a letdown. Although the meat was tender and the dish was attractively plated, it was under-seasoned overall. A flavorful drizzle on top added some interest, but it wasn’t enough to carry the dish. A bolder use of spices or a marinade could have greatly improved it. On a much more positive note, the taco de pulpo (octopus taco) stood out as the clear highlight. Perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, it struck a strong balance of flavor and texture. This dish demonstrated the kitchen’s potential when everything comes together. The staff, whilst attentive, interrupted conversations constantly with the need to clear the table. The dog was welcomed although we were sat away from the buzz of the dining room in a less desirable table. Overall, the meal had highs and lows. While some elements felt like shortcuts were taken, the standout taco de pulpo showed real culinary promise. A bit more attention to seasoning and authenticity across the menu would go a long way.

I'm from Texas & I love tacos. I could eat tacos everyday. And these tacos definitely hit the spot! My favorite are the lubina (robalo [fish] tacos)!!! But it only comes with 2. However, a filet grilled comes on top and I think they are the best fish tacos ever! The shrimp tacos were amazing! Big prawns that were battered. The chicken tacos were a bit salty but still good! The guac was heavy on the avocado 🥑 & a bit bland but I prefer bland to salty! Definitely will be back! I felt like the food was more like tex-mex than authentic Mexican. But what do I know? I'm from Texas 😂 3 tacos per order (we ordered 2 sets + guac + chips = 22€) The packaging and logo are SO cute! The strawberry 🍓 margarita is the BOMB. With cups lined with salt & paprika! Just the right kick. My favorite margarita place in aveiro now!

Traditional Portuguese food in a traditional Portuguese surrounding. When you wanna experience an old, simple Portuguese restaurant, Evaristo is your place. Good and tasty food, right out of moms kitchen. Traditional dishes served in the common way. Metal platters, paper tablecloths and no fancy shenanigans. The staff has been working there for ages, they know their restaurant and most of their clients. It always feels like coming home when you enter the restaurant and have your dose of food saudade. We'll be coming back year after year.

This is a small hole-in-the-wall joint where none of the owners speak English and the layout is confusing there are separate lines for the bar and the restaurant and no label anywhere BUT THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. We ordered a bottle of wine for and the Bacalhau com Natas (codfish) and Vitela Assada à Vouga (veal) and received massive portions of such flavourful food. Each dish could easily be shared by 2 people and even 3 if you aren't very hungry. The veal dish was accompanied with rice and potatoes and there was some flavoured oil in which the veal was cooked that paired perfectly with the rice. Highly recommend this dish.

Awesome place! Local, and away from the touristy areas. The arroz de tamboril e gambas ( shrimp and fish stew) is large enough for 3-4 people. The amount of shrimp in here was plentiful! Cheap but good wine to pair. Friendly service!

Was recommended this restaurant by the hotel we were staying at (OC salon charm hostel & suites). We are there both nights as the food was delicious. If you are looking for pretty plates of food then look somewhere else. This restaurant is good food at great prices. Unusual little bar with a dining room attached. You can eat at the bar and if you are a solo diner it has a very comfortable feel as you won't be alone. Will recommend and look forward to eating there again.

The place is very local, not touristic. They don’t have English menu, and the staff don’t speak English. However, the taste of food is brilliant, and the price is very reasonable. I strongly recommend this place even though you are a tourist.

Had dinner here two evenings ago based on the recommendation of the housekeeper at the hostel around the corner. A highly charming and very authentic restaurant where the wife cooks and the husband serves the dishes. The food was delicious (we shared the grilled Dorado and dessert) and remarkably cheap (we paid around 20€ for two). Note though that the owner spoke little to no English and that you have to pay cash, but we warmly recommend this place if you're around.

Good vibes only! This place was superb! The beef steak and the black pork were amazing! The steak was topped with an in-house made herb butter. I recommend sitting down and chilling out… having a vinho verde and enjoying a beautiful meal.

Great small restaurant in Aveiro that we found from TheFork. Their Gambás à rebaldaria was excellent (probably one of the better prawns dish I’ve had in Portugal). Their salmon was very good too (moist with crispy skin). Their tuna wasn’t my favorite, the one that I tried was a little dry, maybe because it’s the end pieces. Overall it’s a great restaurant. I’ll come back here when I visit Aveiro again.

Very nice food! We went for vegetarian food today (they also have fish, meat etc.). We had couscous and tofu curry, it tasted amazing! Good restaurant overall.

Today I got one of the best lunch box I have tried here: pork-rib rice with fried vegetables and potato wedges.

They have really tasty food and I think it really worths the money you give. We had menu of the day and paid more or less 8 eu per person. It included a drink, soup of the day, meal of the day(there were two options, i think one of them was vegetarian) and a coffee. All of them were extremely delicious. They also bring starters which was around 3 euro and it worths the money. They bring really tasty bread and a kind of paste. It was the best meal we had in Aveiro. Maybe it is not a ‘must go’ but if you want tasty food you can have the best meal of your vacation here. Also they have the best of service. All of the people working know english and they were really nice and helpful.

It’s a nice place and the food is tasty but it would be nice a little more quantity! We ate tofu curry and tuna steak cooked with herbs and butter. It’s a warm place with nice staff.

I enjoyed a delightful dinner at Tasca do Confrade -- a very cozy restaurant in the center of Aveiro -- with a very friendly attention form the waiters. I ordered a very nicely cooked steak served with exquisite potatoes. I recommend it.

The place is neat and clean, looks very authentic and the service is perfect, very friendly girls. The food however was disappointing and not because it wasn’t well cooked or served, but you could feel that the quality of the ingredients is very low. We ordered the grilled cod fish and it was very dry and tasteless, exactly like a cheap frozen fish from the most random supermarket. The side dish and the plating were nice, so the issue was not from the chef, but, as mentioned, the quality of the ingredients. Therefore, not a great value for the price.

there are lots of mixed reviews for this place, my take is just an average restaurant. do not expect something fancy but also do not expect to eat poorly. dishes are large for one person but a little small to share for the average person. if you go you are better with the fish and seafood.

Stumbled on the restaurant by chance. After reading the reviews, it seems like a good place. Once entering the restaurant, it has a classic atmosphere. The food we ordered were Seafood rice, mussles, grilled codfish. All are insanely delicious. The mussles with tamato based sauce are so good. The mussles are huge. The seafood rice is sooo yummy. The codfish is firm abd fresh. For desserts, we ordered the "cream of heaven," and coffees. It is so delectable. Overall, great service and memorable experience.

I had a fish(number2) which looks fancy but it doesn’t have any taste and later we discovered that it is not even fresh fish and my boyfriend had meat(number 7) and it was better than mine but it wasn’t the best nor deserve the price. I really don’t think they deserve the money they take for this food. Also they bring you entries without asking and then they charge you for that too. So you pay for cheese,olive and packaged butter 6 eu. If you can’t find anywhere to eat just go to mall so at least you can eat tasty and leave the table full.

Inexpensive compared to local prices. A bit hidden but worth it for the quiet local along the canal. Staff are pleasant and accommodating for large groups. The tuna stake was incredibly ample, though I prefer a bit more rare and less salt. It was delicious.

GET THE GARLIC SHRIMP!!!! So amazing that I am currently writing this review from inside the restaurant!! We got the couvert of the day which i highly recommend. Crackers instead of bread so it wasn’t super filling and the olives came in the tastiest olive oil. If there is one dish you have to get it is the garlic shrimp tapas. Quite literally the BEST shrimp I’ve had in my entire life. I was in heaven, it was bliss. So amazing. You have to get it, the portion is also generous and comes with 10+ big shrimp. The octopus tapas was also really good and has a unique seasoning and sauce. It wasn’t chewy at all, even though octopus usually is. We also got the goat cheese salad which was good with fresh dressing and cheese. Lastly we got the steak. While it was good, it doesn’t compare to the rest of the meal. It still has a good flavor and tenderness and came with delicious potato wedges and sauce. 10/10 amazing loved it. Waitress was super nice, restaurant was beautiful.

Amazing spot. Waiters very friendly and kind. I really enjoyed the food and that its in calm location. As we were traveling with kids, picky eaters, we couldn't order something very exotic, but menu was really great. Also kids were distracted by fishes that were swimming in the river.

The food was very delicious. The staff and service were amazing, they really try and go above and beyond. The table decoration was also really nice. The view is gorgeous too. You can see river canal and fish market and some old Portuguese houses. I can't recommend it more.

This place has the best sardines fillets I’ve ever tasted. I came here last year and returned just for these sardines!!! It was not on the menu. I requested and they made it just for me!!! My husband had the octopus fillets and loved them too. Friend atmosphere. Exceptional food. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is nice and well located in a nice square. Nice food, we tried the cheese oven, rice with prawns and it was all nice. Service is nice and friendly. Also the square's dog Caramelo deserves a positive commentary as he is a plesant company during your meal without being invasive or annoying. What I really disapprove and that's the reason why of 3 stars instead of 4 is the fact that they only serve water in small bottles. This is an approach that I noticed also by some other restaurants which I really disapprove as it is a cheap way to make money. We had two little kids who only drink water and we had no other way than ordering a small bottle and pay for water 4€ per liter that is two times the price of gasoline. Serving only small bottles of water so that they can be charged more is really an unfair way to squeeze the wallet of the clients . Big thumb up 👍 to all the restaurants that decide to monetize on food and other drinks but not water!

While visiting Aveiro, we decided to have lunch at O Arco da Velha, and it was well worth it. The staff were nice, and greeted and seated us promptly. Also, in no time at all we had our drink orders and food starter as well. The food was excellent: I had the Octopus with potatoes and onions; my wife had a chicken kabob with fries, rice and salad, and our friend had some type of beef steak with a mustard sauce and fries. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We highly recommend this restaurant, and if given the chance would eat here again.

It took incredibly long for the food to arrive. When it did, the fries were undercooked, and the meals in itself, too easy and plain. They seemed understaffed and staff just ran back and forth without paying attention. I didn't have a fork when the food was served, but it took another 5 minutes to be solved. Toilets were not clean either. Skip this place

The food was alright. I had grilled octopus and the texture was right, but it was really salty. The potatoes were half cooked and weren't seasoned. Fast service, but our server wasn't friendly, never cracked a smile.

Absolutely delightful! We were walking around looking for a restaurant. And we saw this unpretentious restaurant and walked in. The staff were friendly but they don’t speak English and don’t have an English menu. We finally figured out and Wow! The food was so tasty and fresh! Love our seafood rice, the squid and shrimp! Even the cheese for appetizer was delicious!

An authentic Portuguese dining experience. All Portuguese…no English. We were probably the only tourists. The food was great. Got the ticket and the veal…both were delicious. You can even buy a 1/4 carafe of wine for like €2

We happened across this restaurant whilst walking back from the salt flats. We are English with next to no Portuguese but found the staff welcoming and helpful. We started with fresh grilled sardines followed by arroz de marisco for 2 (sea food with rice stew). Both were excellent. Portions huge. We had vihno Verde to start and red wine with main course. Very good wine at a very reasonable price. My wife had desert, I was too full. The meal cost and drinks cost €81. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Typical ambience for Portuguese restaurant.......however the food was on point. We had two of the grilled pork and veal dishes and they were flavorful. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Michelin award winner 7 years in a row. Staff was friendly and personable.

Palhuca in Aveiro offers great food and a lively atmosphere with plenty of locals. However, we were surprised by a 20% tip added without notice, written only in Portuguese. It felt a bit unfair, as locals might not face the same charge. Also, they were unexpectedly closed yesterday despite Google Maps showing them as open. Great meal, but they need better transparency and communication.

Authentic Portuguese restaurant visited by locals and people who know. Tasty seafood dishes, served by friendly hosts. We had a monk fish stew dish that could feed four people

It is a typical portuguese tavern with local food. I was interested in having the grilled sardines as I read the fish is fresh and good. Was not disappointed at all. The photo I attach is for half a portion of the grilled sardines which comes with salad and veggies. As a woman- I eat a lot and this was plenty for me to be full, but not stuffed to the brim. The plate looks smaller on the photo - it is one of those big plates so do not be fooled by my photo. I had melon for dessert which was also good- came from the fridge so was refreshing in this heat. I do recommend it- it is a family run business. The man seems a bit grumpy but do not mind him- I reckon it has not been easy for them in this pandmic. Definately if you go to Aveiro- pay them a visit. Prices are also good.

Fun place to go in Aveiro. Yes - it is authentic and family owned. Fairly priced! Yep, service can seem unfriendly, but not THAT of a big deal either. The young man was actually very attentive. I have to be honest tho, the sardines could be too salty for most people, but the salad kinda lacked taste. Portions are great too! However it was a fun experience and I recommend going for dinner or lunch. Thanks!

we ordered four meals and each meal was terrible. The hot food was cold, very poorly cooked. and we waited over 50 minutes to receive the food when there were so few people ( 5 or 6) in the restaurant. We once enjoyed Faros, but it has gone down very far now and we won’t be back.

Nice little restaurant. It is not in Aveiro, but near the beach. Nothing too special Do not confuse it with one with high recommendations and it is not exactly gourmet. Also there are no oysters served here, even though someone posted photos of it.

Resturant has high reviews & its well deserved Its located by the canal so nice outdoor seating . The resutrant is small so might need to waite. Staff are very friendly and attentive they try there best to explain the dishes. They have kids meal ( fish / chicken fingers ) My favoutite is the stuffed octopus risotto Everyghing tasted yummy and sardines too . My least is the floerless chocolat cake it was very eggy .

Not so good: mussels(not so fresh), oysters(not so fresh), sangria red (way too sweet). Remember to check the bill amount before paying.

I’m so happy I chose this quaint little canal restaurant. The food was exceptional and excellent. The service was good and quick and the prices are fair. Also for some of the dishes there are prices for half portion. So you can try two different mains. I had the clams and the gizzards. Both were tasty and so satisfying.

I am happy to try seafood but always remain skeptical about it. This place revived my belief in tasty seafood. I found that the best local food comes from place where you hardly can communicate in English. My ordered mussels and stuffed squid were amazing, and a local dish with gizzards is also worth trying.

Everything was DELICIOUS! The dishes gave me the feeling like I went to my friend's house and ate the best homemade dish. The portions are very big. I could barely finish the half portion but it was so yummy that I had to. The prices for portion sizes are very good. The staff is very attentive, polite, kind. I will definitely recommend everyone to visit this place when in Aveiro.

A lovely mom and pop place with truly authentic food prepared and served with love and attention. We had the grilled squid, grilled dourado and the bacalhau com natas. Followed by a decadent chocolate mousse (70% cocoa) and the Nata de cês (forgot the exact name). It was light, fluffy, lightly sweet and refreshing. The place is warm and cozy. It has about 8 tables and they fill up quickly. Get there early and enjoy the warmth, great food and the Portuguese version of The Price is Right on the one TV that they have. 😁

I was solo traveler. The lady who served me was one of the politest servers I ever had in Portugal. She made sure I was seated well. She was extremely polite and had a good hospitality sense. The fish was very tasty. I went around 7:30PM on a weekday so did not have to wait. But it gets full pretty soon and then there might be a queue. All the best to the restaurant!

Great hearty portions, perfectly seasoned dishes, and that cozy “I could live here” vibe… all while you sit streetside enjoying the kind of live music Porto’s street artists you’d expect from a secret festival. And then—then—there’s the lady who sings later at night. WOW. She’s not just talented; she’s “why isn’t she already on a world tour?” talented. Her voice floats down the street like a serenade. Service is friendly, the atmosphere is lively, and the food? Delicious, comforting, and exactly what you want after a full day of climbing Porto’s hills.

This was a lovely and homely experience - the server was really friendly and sweet, and the food was just homemade goodness. The pork steak was grilled to perfection and the fries were divine. I enjoyed every moment of my evening here and cannot recommend this enough to anyone that’s visiting Aveiro!

Excellent family spot, can tell why the ratings are so high! We had squid, pork belly, veal, creamy codfish and some wine. All were excellent. Service was top notch, very honest and thorough in recommendations. We couldn't have had a better meal.

Family run business that operates on a new menu daily. This was undoubtably our favourite meal of our two weeks in Portugal. Such warm hospitality, and delicious, home cooked food. The grilled squid was so fresh, and the pork chops were tender and perfectly grilled. The creamy cod is a traditional food we haven’t tried before, and was balanced with a nice salad. Great portions. Highly recommend Restaurante Picota to anyone chasing a high quality, authentic feed. Beware this place don’t take bookings and wait times in summer can be up to two hours.

Really enjoyed the experience here. We ordered the usual couvert (bread, butter, and olives). Then we ordered the Chateaubriand with french fries and salad. Additionally, we ordered some vegetables sautéed. The chocolate mouse and cheesecake were fantastic! The food was great! What I did not like was the low wine options and overprices (some were about +3 times over the usual).

This was 100 euro dry aged steak , 80% of it was fat and the rest was edible . Complete scam and do not recommend . Sent the steak back because when it came out the first time it was COLD on the inside . Dead giveaway that it was frozen and not dry aged . Really upset that this was the only bad experience i’ve had in Portugal but won’t ever come back and will tell anyone i talk to that this place is a scam .

We came here thinking it might be just okay. It it was so much better than that! Our waitress Victoria was perfect!! Attentive and respectful and very hard working. We feel she deserves a mention as she was quietly going about her work with a great attitude and not distracted by the young group of men that were having fun on their national holiday. The food was surprisingly tasty and the steak was cooked perfectly. The chocolate mousse was delicious but the lime mousse was another level! We will come straight back next time we are here . We booked a table for 4 for New Year’s Eve. The reservation was made by phone for 19.30 but we got a call at 19.15 saying we had a table for 19 and confirming our place since we would have to leave by 8h45 due to the next sitting round. When we arrived we were immediately told there were several entries not available anymore. We choose our main dish. When asking for the drink, it was also not available (it was the only sangria of the menu and they said “they did not have maracujá”). One of us asked for a specific beer that was on the menu, it was not available anymore as well. We ended choosing something else. The service was good, depending on the people who were serving us. At some moments, we felt our presence was not welcomed there and there was a pressure to rush us to finish it all. At 9h10, we were still there and the restaurante was not full or with people waiting. The food was great, overall. The meat was amazing, the French fries were truly good and the drinks as well. However, for a New Years Eve reservation it disapponted me that so many options were lacking from the menu and the service was not fully amazing as it could have been. Although the food was good, the experience for finishing the year was disappointing.

I believe I had the pork with mushrooms and fries with salad as well as the grilled shrimp and it was amazing. It tasted so delicious and the portion was pretty big with one entrée. You could share it with two or three people!

Another iconic place in a must visit for all Humans in this area. This price of been around for 50 + years and is home to a lot of dishes revolving around chicken. They are famous for their charcoal chicken. The desserts are amazing and you get a huge serving of it.
