Breathtaking view over the Douro Valley and river. You can see the vineyards, mountains, and winding river all in one panorama. Peaceful spot, worth the drive up.

Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura is a hidden gem in the Douro Valley and one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region. It is about a 25 to 30 minute detour north of Peso da Régua, so you really need a car to get here since it is hard to reach otherwise as a tourist. The drive up is narrow and winding and the spot itself is not well signposted, but the locals know it. Once you park there are a few stairs to climb before reaching the top. It is better to visit during the day when everything is visible and the light brings out the landscape. The view is absolutely breathtaking with sweeping sights of the Douro River, the vineyards and the small villages across the valley. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

Beautiful view over the Douro River and valley. The cabrito here is probably the best I’ve had in Portugal – tender, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The place has a very authentic, rustic decoration that makes it cozy, and the staff are genuinely kind and welcoming. A great experience all around.

From this restaurant me and my girlfriend had the worst food poisoning of our lives. It lasted around 5 days and we both had to see a doctor. It turned out the rice was very old and developed some dangerous bacteria. I was there on 04.04.2025.

I was here on a tour. We had an incredible view of the Douro valley vineyards. Food was awesome and so was the service and ambiance. It has that old world authentic vibe. We had Bbq chicken, soup and dessert with wine.

Wednesday, our third wine tasting stop and then dinner venue, was at Quinta do Tedo in the Douro. Our energetic and passionate guide, Laura (think Laura Croft - as she introduced herself 😎) shared the history and wine making processes of this nearly 200-year old, smaller, estate winery. They cultivate 12 hectares of land, mostly with old-vine grapes. Many vines are 70-80 years old, and one section has 110-year old vines. We tasted two varieties of dry wines and three Ports. The ports were are all very tasty. I didn’t mention before regarding other wineries, but we left this one with four bottles. (I haven’t stopped to count the bottle collection this trip…😳) There is a beautiful little, Michelin-recognized Bistro Terrace on the property. The dinner we enjoyed was among one of the best I’ve had in Portugal. We had two very tasty starters. Dave selected a perfectly-prepared lamb shank with roasted potatoes, special rice, and greens. I almost devoured a pork tenderloin with terrine potatoes on a bed of perfect apple purée. Another nice surprise was that Laura, our wine expert also appeared in the service of our meal. Quite a sweet surprise. This is another recommended stop if you love Port and are touring in Douro by car.

An absolute must-visit in the Douro Valley. Quinta do Tedo focuses on red wines and Ports, and everything we tasted was exceptional, from the rich Reserve reds to the rosé Port and the beautifully aged 30-year-old tawny. Even though the winery was busy, they seated us separately for a private tasting, which made the experience feel personal and special. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and every pour reflected real craftsmanship. The highlight was meeting Kay Bouchard, one of the owners, who personally stopped by to welcome us and even invited us to join the traditional foot-treading. Her warmth and hospitality made our visit unforgettable. It’s rare to find a winery that combines quality, history, and genuine kindness like this one. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Douro!

Really loved our wine tour here. There was a big tour group coming after us (~100 people), so Tiago took us around as we were a smaller group - he doesn’t usually do the tours apparently. He was absolutely fantastic, doing a great job of the explanation, and was very generous with which port we were allowed to taste. The scenery was stunning (as it is in all of the Douro Valley). Plus, the wine was delicious!

Enjoyed a tour of the wine making facilities as well as a generous tasting as guests of the B&B. I can't imagine a more beautifully situated quinta. The tour guide, Lara was very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. The service and food in the Bistro (Familia Gearas) was outstanding with the chef personally coming out to check in with his guests and to make recommendations. The views were incredible. We also enjoyed a swim in the lovely pool with a view and 2 hikes around the property. We arrived by taxi from Pinhão, which was about a 20 minute drive along the Douro. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back. Only suggestion: please have coffee available for guests to help themselves before breakfast/in the guest wing. ☕

TOTALLY not worth the price & time of the wine tasting tour. Described as a 1 hour tour of the property, with wine tasting. The "tour" itself was about 10-15 min, included 2 rooms in the same building, and heard the same explanation. After that 10-15 min "tour", we sat to drink 5 wines/ports samples. The samples themselves were good, but for 35 euro per person, we expected something completely different. don't spend you time and money there, go try somewhere else.

Kay and Tiago shared their passion about their wineries fine wines and port. We savored a good few with pure enjoyment. Great stop in the Douro region. Don’t hesitate. Look forward to tasting their new white wines.

Incredible dinner! From the staff to the view to the ambiance, and of course the exquisite food. My husband and I had a wonderful time. We decided to go al la carte but of course we wanted to share evening. The kitchen kindly split all of our meals and paced them out instead of bringing all together, which really enhanced our experience. Our server Felipe was so lovely and helped us select an excellent bottle of wine to pair with our meal. Our favorites were the pasta with cheese sauce and the apple dessert - both unique and surprising in their own way! If you’re in the area I can’t recommend a meal here enough. There is parking onsite and outdoor seating.

Called ahead to make sure that the tasting menu could accommodate gluten-free celiac and reminded the server. Reassured it was fine but despite all that still got sick. One of my daughter’s courses had a.bug in it. The reaction by the server was disappointing. They automatically added gratuity despite. Food was meh. Disappointing experience. The following day went to Schisto which was outstanding in every way-food quality, service, atmosphere and value. Don’t waste time/$ at DOC.

We did the wine tasting at Quinta do Vallado and absolutely loved it. The setting is gorgeous, with vineyards all around and a mix of modern and historic buildings. The wines were excellent, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Such a perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the Douro Valley.

Quinta do Vallado is one of the larger, more well-known producers in the Douro, and that scale definitely shows in the experience. The facilities are beautiful, modern, and impressive, but the visit felt more scripted and commercial than some of the smaller family-run quintas we toured. It took about an hour of touring before we finally got to the tasting. We opted for the most comprehensive tasting option. At one point, the guide presented a vial of 1880 vintage port, passing it around and hinting that we might get to try it. Spirits lifted — until she revealed it was 200 euros for a sample. A similar thing happened later with one of their reserve wines, a fascinating blend of 32 grape varieties. The bottle made it to our table but was never opened, which made it feel more like a sales pitch than a genuine tasting. While the wines themselves are excellent and the property is stunning, the overall experience lacked the personal warmth and authenticity of the smaller estates. Worth visiting for the history and architecture — but if you’re looking for a more intimate or educational experience, try one of the boutique quintas nearby instead.

Honestly we can't comment on the accomodations. We dropped in while driving through this area. We arrived while a group of ladies were doing a tasting. We didn't have a booking and the host was busy with the group. No problem as we understand the booking procedure. We browsed the wine selection and found 2 vintages (1 lower priced, the other mid range). Prices average for this area so we purchased them. We're enjoying the less expensive one this evening and it is quite plesant. The other bottle will be delegated to the cellar to grow older gracefully (OK maybe 1-2 more years) before being paired with something complimentary. Staff were friendly but busy. Location is out of the way but that is sometimes good.

Really informative and efficient winery tour with a VR experience of the harvest! Our guide was very thorough and knowledgeable about the different varieties, and I liked how it remains a family-run business even though it is one of the oldest and biggest wineries. Recommend touring in the morning during the summer months as it can get pretty hot outside!

My wife and I had the most wonderful 3 days here as one of our honeymoon stops. The food, wine, and service was absolutely top tier. The staff was so friendly and accommodating the entire time. Just such a memorable experience. Next time we come back to PT, it will absolutely be one of our stops.

We rented very cute house on the territory with 3 spacious bedrooms, each had towels. We had an additional gift - Porto wine and cookies, it was very nice, thank you! House is fully equipped, clean and cozy. Parking is free of charge and just in front of the house.

I’ve experience this place as part of a boat tour by Manos Douro. The tour was very short, like 3 min of the woman speaking. The tasting was of nice quality and the video that we saw during the session was very interesting, but as it was supper packed the place you couldn’t listen to anything on the video. I was in the first row so I was able to read the subtitles that were in English, but the majority of the people on the tour, where old people that don’t speak English. So they weren’t able to understand.

Amazing local Portuguese restaurant!!! We came here for lunch and it was superb. The rice was cooked in a special pot and baked, the meat was amazing and the potatoes to die for. Salad and bread came before and if you order a wine... you get a bottle!

Most wonderful kid goat, such an incredible texture! Also, the best potatoes we've had in Portugal. No menu, we just had the wonderful food delivered to the table! Cost was €45 for 2 at lunch (kid goat main+sides+soft drinks). Book a day in advance - they have a Facebook page where you can messenger them if, like me, your Portuguese is non-existent.

Essential knowledge about the Douro region and vinyards. The working exhibits were well done and the last part of the museum before the shop where they show how exhibits are prepared for the museum is a great idea. It's probably a better museum when the exhibits are all working. I get that things have to updated from time to time, but then don't take the full admission price if visitors can only see half. From an accessibility point of view: it is quite dark inside and a lot of writing is light grey on wood grain (see pictures).

Highly recommend stopping at the Douro Museum if you’re in the area. It’s very informative and there’s a lot to learn about the region and its wine. The displays and exhibits are well done and clearly put together with care. The cherry on top is ending the visit with a glass of Port while overlooking the Douro River.

This is a really nice museum about the history of the region and the wine making tradition. The entry also included a glass of wine, which was a really nice detail. The only thing we would have liked that was not available was a guide or at least an audio guide.

If you love Porto and Douro wines, this museum is a must-see. After your tour, you can enjoy a delicious glass of Porto in the charming café overlooking the Douro.

Plan now to have a meal at this fabulous, cozy spot! Our group of four had eight meals over two dinners because it was so good that we simply had to return. The food is absolutely delicious…clearly a labor of love. The food presentation is beautiful, and every meal is like a gift from the kitchen. An added bonus is that the staff is friendly and welcoming, making one feel right at home. The staff expertly offer suggestions for wine pairings from high-quality artisanal producers in the Douro Valley. This restaurant is a true gem. Just go, and you’ll see why we love it!

Best food we've ever had in Portugal, so we came back for 2nd night, which happened to be American Thanksgiving. Paula made it extra special for us and did some traditional sides to go with the ribs! I can't say enough great things about Paula and Tasca da Quinta! The first night we had the octopus, duck and pork. The duck and pork shank melt in your mouth, best duck and pork we have ever had. The second night we had the ribs and the duck. Both nights we had the smoked sausage, which was soft inside and wonderful on bread or alone. The second night we also had the mackerel and the white bean soup, both delicious. For dessert, we had the raspberry mouse which is light and delicious and the second night we had the apple tart/pie which was light and delicious served with lemon sorbet. Highly recommend and its particularly wonderful for those who like an earlier dinner - they open at 6pm!! Hope to make it back someday soon!

Best diner we had in Portugal! Period! Very cozy restaurant. Make reservations! We shared an awesome pork shank and a wonderful salad (which I don't remember the name). The flavors were out of this world! We had wine from a local producer who happened to be dining there also (Quinta de Tourais). I highly recommend dining there. I will return for sure. Bring cash since they don't take bank cards (there is an ATM not too far from the restaurant.

Three days in Portugal and I've hit the jackpot with the best restaurant so far! It’s lighter on the salt than traditional Portuguese dishes—my blood pressure thanks them. The octopus isn’t chewy, just melts in your mouth, and the sauce combo is spot on. The ribs and veggie rice reminded me a bit of Shanghai-style, which is pretty good. But the real MVP here? The octopus. Get that!

Super casual, unassuming, and inexpensive restaurant with great personality and service. It’s clearly a “locals” hangout with limited capacity (so make a reservation). When we called for a reservation Paula recognized the US area code and answered in English. She is super friendly, with a great sense of humor that is promptly realized when she showed us the wine list (merely pointing to the cabinets loaded with local wine.). She knew about all of them and once we selected she brought out the perfectly chilled bottle. Try the spare ribs! Note in our picture that the sign is missing from the front of the building. Paula is having a new one crafted. Very fun, super casual, and great food! What could be better?

This is a really nice little family run restaurant just back from the river front in Régua. Nothing flashy, just good simple meat and fish dishes done really well. We went twice and tried veal, sausage, and chicken dishes, all of which were generous in size, and cooked to perfection. Desserts include an almond cake, and an orange cake to die for, particularly if washed down with tawny port! Wines are inexpensive, and great value. Charming maitre d' and waiting staff. Don't miss!!

Nice young lady who spoke good English and gave us good maps and some useful tips, BUT, an old train timetable - they change in December and she should know that. We went to book for the 9.00am train en route to Pinhao for the day only to be told at Regua station of the change and that the next train was at 12.30pm. Bummer

Useful but the person over there was not very helpful in finding the information...I had to search myself the information on my mobile...so a bit weird in a tourism office. They should have more helpful personnel who are more client oriented.

Peso da Regua ... The city of the Douro River ... This city is secularly linked to Port wine since it was from here that the Rabelo boats were controlled to descend to Porto. The river in the winter often rises a lot and floods the riverside areas ... Visit the Douro Museum and Douro Valley area is a must for any tourist coming to Portugal

It was so scenic and beautiful town located along riverside. We booked small train for town tour and d package included vineyard tour + wine tasting. Best experience was to see the porto wine making history there and to taste it. We find it difficult to get vegetarian food there but Cais bar saved us. Had so much fun in train and exploring the hill top view of d town.

Avoid the shop at the train station. The owner tried to rip me off by short changing me ten euros. He also sold me a lighter that did not work. Picks on tourists evidently. What a thief.

Station is well kept. Outside, in the front, some large nice shade trees to sit under to escape the heat in summer.

Definitely the best Portuguese food I’ve had in Régua do Douro. This is a truly traditional Portuguese restaurant – exactly what restaurants in Portugal should be. It’s worth waiting for your meal: everything is freshly prepared, generous in portion, and without any unnecessary “modern experiments.” I had on 18 August 2025 in the evening the perna de borrego from the grill and caldo verde. The soup was excellent, with plenty of carrot giving it a distinctive flavor. The lamb was grilled simply with salt, without the excess herbs that often kill the natural taste – just perfect. I honestly don’t understand people who lower ratings because of the waiting time. A restaurant is meant to be a place to spend time, enjoy the atmosphere, and taste good food. Here, patience is rewarded with excellent, authentic dishes. Highly recommended.

Such an amazing family-owned Portuguese restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderful. We came in for lunch and the food was incredible. We ordered the lamb chops and barbecued ribs and they were delicious. The owners of the restaurant were lovely too. I would definitely recommend to visit this restaurant!

Absolutely fantastic. We came across this restaurant and the chef ended up making a custom plate of grilled meats and fries with salad. If you’re passing through Peso da Régua en route to the Douro Valley, this makes a perfect stop, just to rest, sip, and soak in one of the most beautiful stretches of the Douro. On our return to Porto we took the N222 road, which made the whole experience even more scenic and memorable.

Visiting Douro museum, we found this modern restaurant with a clean and contemporary atmosphere. The service by Pedro was prompt and friendly (in good English). Menu for lunch had dishes for different tastes, including vegetarian. I ordered a plate of young lamb and it was delicious. My husband had soup and was very satisfied with. Avoid this restaurant if you're looking for good food, honest staff and cleanly restrooms. This place is meant for a younger crowd that may simply not know better with regards to a proper restaurant. If all you want to do is drink, this might be the place for you... BUT, if you have any problems with your food order (the beef AND pork were as tough as shoe leather), don't expect them to do anything remotely satisfactory to make things right. As a matter of fact, don't even expect your waitress to be honest with management with the state of the food you may have issues with. If Google allowed for zero stars... that's what this subpar establishment would get from me. Edit: As you can see by the owner's response, even the ownership doesn't give two shts about how their staff treats their customers.
