Lews Castle, a restored Victorian castle located in the heart of a municipal park, is more than just a historic site. It also serves as a community center housing a collection of artifacts that showcase the local culture and history. The castle grounds include the local college, archives, and council nursery. Visitors can explore the dark woods and enjoy the surrounding park area.
Engaging exhibition on life in the Hebrides that is in enjoyable chunks. The all-around scenery room is great and the stories of people who lived and left interesting. Did not see the castle as there was a wedding. Nice cafe and no charge for the museum. Good activity before catching the ferry.
Colin I — Google review
Really nice castle with the ground floor open for tours. Upper floors are private residences. Interesting museum on site with a history of the island and culture. Small gift shop and café with coffee and light snacks.
Tim B — Google review
A lovely castle and grounds. The attached museum is a fantastic place. At the time of our visit six of the Lewis Chessmen were on display. The cafe is also lovely. We had lovely soup served by young, friendly people.
Kim — Google review
We walked to the Lews Castle from Stornoway and spent longer there than we had intended walking around the vast gardens. The Castle was setting up for a wedding so we had a quick look inside. It looked very nice with huge rooms. The grounds are extensive and really well maintained for their size. Highly recommend visiting.
Bridget S — Google review
Stayed here for two nights on Stornaway. A little separated from the rest of town it is connected by a short but lovely walk through the grounds. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. Breakfast is not included but there is a cafe on the ground floor open most days. Parking is plentiful. The castle itself is beautiful inside and out. It's lit up nicely at night making a good beacon to walk home from one of the many good restaurants nearby. It also doubles as an event, including weddings, and the rooms used are gorgeous.
David C — Google review
Truly a wonderful experience. Service was outstanding, friendly staff always present as required. The location is excellent with a scenic woodland walk into town for dinner and centrally located on Lewis for hiking and exploring. The building itself and the rooms were beautifully done (we stayed in the sunlight room). A luxurious bath with some whiskey tasters we brought along was certainly a highlight. The attached museum is also very informative for anyone wanting to learn about the island’s history or emigration history from the region. The ladies there were incredibly knowledgeable and keen to help with any questions we had. Our thanks to all the staff and museum employees for a lovely stay!
Nick P — Google review
A beautiful bit of architecture situated in a fascinatingly beautiful non-native area. There's a cafe inside, though I can't attest to its food. I was slightly dissapointed by the interior of the Castle itself (which this review is for) since its all converted over to a venue. Its still nice to look at though!
Leon R — Google review
Went for park run and grounds are a fine walk. The castle itself is a hotel, cafe and function hire place. Not really a castle that you can tour round. It's free to go in to the cafe and shop so you can see a little bit of it.

Movie theater
An Lanntair Arts Centre is a vibrant hub of creativity, offering a diverse range of artistic expressions from visual art to theatre and dance, as well as providing a platform for poetry and literature. Situated next to the harbor in Stornoway, it boasts award-winning venues including a contemporary art space, theater, cinema, and concert hall. The center hosts various festivals such as the HebCelt Festival featuring local and international music celebrities and The Mod celebrating Scottish Gaelic arts.
Great café, really nice sandwiches & soups! Definitely recommend! There’s also a lovely view on the harbour, and a dog friendly area! ☀️ Only little con is that we waited quite a while for our meals, but other than that, loved it!
Noemie C — Google review
The Thai Cafe uses the restaurant space in the evening between 1600 - 2200 on Tues - Sat. A great selection of menu options and such a great view over the harbour when you're having your meal. An Lanntair Arts Centre is a great facility to have in Stornoway and is improved by having this dining option available. Book a table though!
Christine M — Google review
Lol velt art gallery downstairs and a shop with a cafe and more artwork upstairs. Only thing is that the artwork upstairs is behind where people sit to eat and drink so you have to peer over them to see the art. Not ideal. No parking so find a roadside space or park at Tesco only a 3 minute walk. All free
Dawn A — Google review
Beautiful modern venue with large capacity and current streaming technology for large events. Very friendly staff at the café, Thai restaurant open in the evening.
John M — Google review
Art gallery and creative space - certainly the largest such space in the Western Idles. Downstairs is an art gallery along with a gift and bookshop. There is a good cafe upstairs. There aren't any parking facilities but Stornoway does have a fair amount of parking spaces.

Another visit to The Thai Cafe now in An Lanntair. Food wonderful as usual with friendly prompt service. The new location adds to the experience. Will hopefully be back before going home. Recommended

Specialty Museums
Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean, located in Stornoway, Outer Hebrides, offers a deep dive into the history of the area and mainland Scotland. It is funded by the Western Isles Council and houses the Stornoway Historical Society. The museum showcases a wide array of artifacts, clothing, maps, and papers that trace the history of Stornoway from its origins to the present day.
Very interesting to visit, very friendly volunteers, i especially did like the room where you can see the island trough the seasons, mòran taing, thig mi air ais gu cinnteach.
Hanneke — Google review
I do really loved the place. So much to get to know about people themselves (Islanders). Eeach person = one story. If you have some time to spare, definitely worth going there. Btw no need to follow google maps route to the roundabout when walking, there is a direct shortcut with signs straight to the castle museum few meters before.
Kate B — Google review
The Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean in Stornoway features background and history of the culture of the Outer Hebrides. It also features artefacts dating from prehistory to the present day, and a public archive. It is situated in the grounds of Lews Castle, in a building inspired by the former glasshouses. The museum introduces life in the Outer Hebrides from prehistory to the present including archaeological finds on loan from National Museum Scotland. The gift shop has a small range of individual replicas of the Lewis Chessman available for purchase.
D F — Google review
Fairly small but very well presented museum with lots of multimedia exhibits telling the fascinating story of island life, the highlight being some of the famous Lewis chessmen. Entry is free and includes access to the downstairs rooms of the adjacent Lews Castle. There’s also a cafe. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. If you have time, the castle grounds make for a lovely walk - climb up to Gallows Hill for some nice views over the water to Stornoway town and port.
Tim F — Google review
We went in Sunday when the museum is closed. The ground floor of the grand house was open and we had lunch there. I was told there were no more eggs but later discovered someone receiving scrambled eggs. Disappointing. Food was fine but not exciting. You order and it arrives at your table. Staff are young and enthusiastic. Coffee was ok but not great. But I guess it was good it was open on a Sunday.
Peter D — Google review
Not a large museum but a "boutique" exhibition that shows a snapshot of life on Harris and Lewis. The individual rooms are well put together with both visual and audio information. The Lewis Chessmen were,of course,a highlight. The background information on their discovery was well presented. Guides are on hand for any questions. There is a small gift shop and admission is by donation,a suggested £5. There is also a cafe.
Mandy N — Google review
We had a lovely time at the museum and loved how immersive the experience was, especially the film at the beginning. It was also brilliant to see and hear so much Gaelic all around - chòrd sin rinn glan! Would absolutely recommend a visit, followed by some coffee and cake in the castle.
Fine M — Google review
Great museum, staff super friendly and helpful. Entry by donation (paid £10 for a family of 4) worth the money, kids enjoyed it and had a few activities to do which helped keep them busy. Would recommend for a visit if you are in Stornoway.

Nestled in the scenic castle grounds of Stornoway, the Woodlands Centre offers a unique dining experience surrounded by nature. The pet-friendly cafe provides outdoor seating and serves a variety of delicious meals including soups, sandwiches, and delectable coffee and cakes. With its wooden house design set amidst lush greenery, this charming teahouse is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.
The Woodlands Centre cafe is located in the grounds of Lews Castle and next to some amazing woodlands that you can walk along. The cafe is constructed of wood and built by the local staff and has an amazing large glass frontage. The chef cooks an amazing Scottish breakfast with great coffee served by very friendly and helpful staff. There are cakes and scones on offer which are very tasty. There is small shopping area as you enter from the car park and at the front there is play area for the kids. The food and service is well worth visit with great value for money.
Cecil B — Google review
Nice cafe with a variety of nice warm options as well as cakes and scones. Definitely recommend since it is directly nestled at the castle grounds and really nice to sit in.
Anna — Google review
Great stop for all those 'strupag' or scran moments when over in Stornoway and you find yourself meandering over to the Castle Grounds have lunch or a takeaway. You could always sit at a bench in Castle Grounds in the shadow of your old school at The Lews Castle. Reflect of living past moments when time was your own and you were 50 years younger 😉.
James L — Google review
OK food & drinks when you finally get them, but with the most laughably chaotic ordering and serving system we've ever come across. Young staff were doing their best, but someone needs to take this place by the scruff of the neck and devise a clearer way of letting guests know which door to go in, which desk to queue at and where to wait the 15 minutes or so to get the hot drink and slice of cake they've ordered.
Rickenbacker A — Google review
In the shadow of Lews Castle. Lovely walk around the headland followed by a wholesome, homemade lunch. They have: sandwiches, toasties, soup, jacket spuds... Plus cake. Family friendly but still pleasant atmosphere for those with friends.
Margie P — Google review
We pop in every year when we visit and the food was good and reasonably priced. Good for lunch and coffee and cake.

Lews Castle Grounds, also known as Stornoway Castle, has been restored by the Western Isles Council and now offers cozy accommodations and vibrant shops. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll around the grounds to observe the lively atmosphere of Stornoway town center or enjoy a family picnic. The castle, museum, and grounds are conveniently located within walking distance from the town center and offer various trails for walking, running, or cycling.
Honestly one of the most beautiful runs i've done in my life, from forest to field to rushing river to estuarine waterfront and views of town. Paths are wide and not (too) muddy. Wish this were my daily run!

Nice park to walk trough, A lot of nice birds and calming nature, A few little waterstreams

This is an absolutely stunning park where you can also find Gruffalo story and their wooden statues. There are so many wild rabbits that walk around you if you're not too noisy. You will love it.
Jana M — Google review
Amazingly beautiful grounds, I did the parkrun here, by far and away the most scenic 5k I've ever done! I've never run a parkrun and taken photos before either. I'd love to see how the Stornoway festival in May is done here, maybe I'll be back in May for it?!

Beautiful grounds, had a peek into the castle, and a great coffee & gift shop, the museum was very interesting.
Karen F — Google review
Stunning, expansive grounds to explore. Well worth a visit!
Shiona M — Google review
Lews castle grounds are beautiful gardens just across the small bridge from Stornoway, unique in that they’re the only proper gardens and trees in the islands due to large shiploads of dirt being brought across to overcome the peat. Well done to the locals for making clear the source of all this wealth and beauty came from slavery, and for now preserving these grounds as a wonderful public space.

Clothing store
Clothes and fabric manufacturer
Harris Tweed Hebrides is a prominent manufacturer of the renowned Harris Tweed, located in the Isle of Lewis. The factory offers an immersive experience for visitors to witness the intricate process of spinning, working, and weaving fine wool by skilled artisans. Additionally, their retail outlets in Stornoway provide a wide range of high-quality products made from Harris Tweed, including blazers, handbags, and fabric lengths. The flagship store showcases the exquisite Harris Tweed and its associated products.
Great place to shop if you are looking to purchase top quality Harris Tweed items. Shop staff extremely helpful.
Vincent J — Google review
We had a quick look in this shop and were welcomed by a nice lady who informed us that we were now able to try on any item. Very impressed by the quality on display. Returned in a few days when we had more time and my wife tried on a lovely jacket. Unfortunately, the staff on duty at this time could not supply a mirror. As we were both intending to buy jackets to the value of over £200, I would argue that this is a definite prerequisite. A rethink needed! Also, the two female members of staff seemed to be concentrated on another task, and made us feel that we were of a secondary concern. Stunningly, beautiful array of items. Just a shame that the customer service aspect fell way short of expectations. We purchased elsewhere.
Graham M — Google review
What can I say first time I’ve shopped in this store and the staff so helpful friendly I’m only on the island for a couple of weeks and first impressions one word fantastic
Kabir A — Google review
Such a pity, had exactly the tweed I was after cut in to 10 inch strips, but would not sell them to me as they were making them into scarves. Im sure they could have cut more. what kind of business turns away custom. Got what I wanted in a lovely shop in Harris.
Elizabeth M — Google review
visited this shop one year ago on an island hopping visit. the staff were extremely helpful as I was buying to make my husband a Harris tweed waistcoat. now having made four I am in need of more material and have just found them online. can't wait to choose and order next pattern
Linda L — Google review
I love this shop, I buy most of the tweed for my small craft business there and could honestly spend hours on end just browsing and putting colours together, all the ladies who work there are just lovely, always there to help you out or just leave you looking if that is what you prefer.
Judith M — Google review
The Harris Tweed Hebrides flagship retail store in Stornoway town centre is undoubtedly the most stylish shop on the island. We can personally testify that this is fact, as we scoured Lewis & Harris in a recent visit to the islands. The shop acts as a showcase for the world-renowned Harris Tweed and quality products which are made from the cloth. Harris Tweed Hebrides are a company at the forefront of the Scottish Textiles and Fashion revolution. In 2013 they scored a hatrick of accolades. In the UK Fashion & Textile Awards Ceremony they picked up both Textile Business of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year. More recently they were named Scotland's Fashion Ambassador of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards2013. If you are lucky enough to be heading to Lewis this shop should be the first and last place you visit!

Restaurant
The Boatshed Restaurant is a popular dining spot in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. Situated in the heart of the town, it offers a light and modern ambiance to complement its cuisine. The restaurant is bustling with locals and visitors alike, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the area. Overlooking Stornoway Harbour, this award-winning restaurant serves a delicious all-day menu featuring daily specials that celebrate local produce from the islands.
Sophisticated. A lovely retreat from the cares of the world. The Boatshed is a sophisticated hotel restaurant in a quiet historic hotel. The service was kind and calm and efficient and the food was excellent. We sat at a window seat and had a lovely view of the castle. I think my favorite thing was the peaceful atmosphere and quiet sophistication of the hotel and restaurant.
Mark T — Google review
I'll start by saying we absolutely loved stornoway, it's truly amazing. We booked this restaurant as our holiday was coming to an end. My wife was desperate to try the seafood and was keen as were our travelling partners. After much debate my wife's cousin had paid for the meal and we all proceeded to leave. As I was viewing the local properties in a nearby estate agency, I could see the waiter running towards me? I had assumed one of us had forgotten an item of clothing but to my surprise he had questioned if we'd paid the bill? I was taken aback and replied of course, I even paid the tip to the manager. So I decided to go back in with him. I could see that there was some miscommunication and gave me a fairly vague excuse as to why the waiter didn't know what was happening. It was such a disappointment end to our holiday. The meal for 6 people wasn't cheap, and to think we would have skipped out on the meal was utterly ridiculous. The food was average and quite frankly overpriced considering the quality served. Not much more to say. This is my first negative review, but quite justifiable.
Anton A — Google review
This classy restaurant is located in Cromwell Street opposite Lews Palace. The food, service, staff, ambiance are all excellent. The lobster was, “absolutely yummy 🤤,” and was demolished leaving very little behind. The duck was superb and the passion fruit curd cheesecake was heavenly. Staff were absolutely lovely. Couldn’t compliment this restaurant highly enough. Fabulous. Definitely recommend this place. 👍👍👍
D F — Google review
Decided to make a reservation the night before since I knew this was a popular spot. Otherwise, we would have eaten at the more casual cafe but I was glad we chose the main restaurant. We were staying in the hotel and it was very convenient. The front desk checked if we needed a reservation when we arrived. This was my favorite meal of the trip. I decided to get the scallop black pudding appetizer with the langoustine main. The scallop app was phenomenal, and the garlic butter langoustine were excellent. The langoustine meat was delicate - tails were sliced open and I took awhile to crack open the claws to get most of the meat out. The elderflower cocktail was refreshing. I had been debating about having langoustine and scallop dishes for app or main. The waitress said the langoustine app has 3, main has 6. Scallop app and main both have 3 scallops, but main has fish also. Great service overall. The restaurant was full and the larger parties really take their time here. The light is dim and everything was served elegantly. My vegetarian friend really enjoyed her bruschetta nibble and eggplant pasta. I would have ordered the cherry bakewell tart, but they were doing a different dessert.
Alison K — Google review
ㅎ 첫번째 한국인 후기 같네요. Visited there twice for a dinner. First day got a beef broth soup as an appetizer and got a ribeye for a main. Beef broth soup was amazing, didn't thought I could taste this delicious, spicy soup in Stornoway! Ribeye was also perfectly cooked, medium rare. Second day got a scallop for an appetizer, and got a fish of the day, which was haddock. Scallop seemed a little bit overcooked because of the smell, well, as far as it tasted great, it was fine. Haddock was also nice... But considering its both very pricy, I'd rather get a ribeye again next time. Overall, it should be considered sole 5 star dining in Stornoway. Taste is promised, but quite pricy. Everyone working there was a professional, working very fast and efficient, without being rude. Kudos to the chef and waiters for making my 2 evening in Stornoway stuffed with delicious meals!
김연준 — Google review
We had a lovely dinner at the Boatshed. The food was tasty. My husband really enjoyed the salmon, and I had the langoustines. The service was good. We arrived early for our reservation, and they were able to take us early. A nice, enjoyable meal.

We had a lovely meal here for 2 adults and 3 kids age 12-15. The seafood was superb, really worth the money. There was enough diversity in the menu to satisfy everyone. My youngest had an enormous dish of pasta.

Great shop in Stornaway, fantastic range of food products and lovely gifts. Nice owners who are lovely to talk too.

While walking through Stornoway we were looking for a cup of coffee and a chai latte. So we stopped by the Delights Café. We had a Cappuccino as well as a Chai latte. Both tasted great and the service was friendly as well as quick. They also had lots of local / scottish gifts and produce for you to buy

Excellent chaï latte, and the sweets are absolutely delicious. The shop is really cute, and they have a section of locals products, like biscuits, honey and other jars, art, soaps, etc! The staff were… quite frankly….rude! Whilst nice to us; I saw them be rude to other customers. Both to them direct - and then even worse - behind their back. And the whole place is filled with signs telling you what not to do! Crazy vibe

What a lovely place, really was. Really well decorated inside, looks brilliant but, today, it's all about the weather and outside. Man, it was hot but the Blue Lodster has a great sitting area outside. Lovely, friendly staff served us, coffee and cake, all round and some treats for our dog 🐕 Lovely 👌

War memorial
The Isle of Lewis 1st World War Memorial stands as a poignant tribute to the brave soldiers from the Hebrides who lost their lives during both World Wars, particularly highlighting the tragic Iolaire disaster. This memorial is not just a site of remembrance but also an elegant structure that features a striking tower and a dignified stone circle, offering visitors a moment of reflection amidst its serene surroundings.
This was a really neat find that we stumbled upon. We didn't know anything about it but saw it from down below and decided to find our way up to it. I wish you could go inside the tower, but it was locked up. It was amazing to see how many Macdonalds, McLeods, and Mackenzies were lost during the war. Hopefully, a lot of people will visit it and pay their respects to all of the fallen. Gone but not forgotten!

The Good Food Boutique in Stornoway is a fantastic Italian deli that offers a wide range of meats, cheeses, antipasti, and cooking ingredients. With its overflowing counter and shelves stocked with rare culinary finds, it caters not only to those seeking artisan products but also appeals to food enthusiasts looking for high-quality items. Whether you're craving a delicious takeaway sandwich or need supplies for your self-catering holiday kitchen, this deli is the place to go.
The store that’s good for the soul and the stomach! Such a lovely shop, full of high-quality and unique foods and products that make perfect gifts as well. They offer sandwiches with local specialities and vegetarian options like hummus and feta, as well as salads and antipasti (usually sold out by 3 pm, so visit at lunchtime to be sure). The staff are incredibly friendly ladies!

Happened along this little gem ! Absolutely loved my Brie and strawberry sandwich and coffee. This place has all the posh/yummy good food, cookies, snacks and take away. The lady who made my sandwich was extremely sweet and such patience. She asked me a few things and my ear couldn’t make out what she was saying. I just am not used to the accent. I even contacted for a gift card for a friend there. Excellent service and my friend sent me an email saying it’s her favorite shop! I guess I have great taste. I would totally recommend this place to shop for gourmet goods , coffee or a sandwich!
Tango C — Google review
We stopped here for lunch and had the most delicious sandwiches! Lots of options for vegetarians too. Not to mention a gorgeous shop! Highly recommend!

A great place for salads and sandwiches to take away. My salad was amazing. Extremely good value with a wide variety of ingredients. The best salad I've had for a long time. I also bought some Isle of Mull Cheddar which was very good

Delicious food, but the service was so slow. We ordered a salad box and a sandwich to eat before getting the ferry to Ullapool. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. We just began to worry if we'd miss our ferry because of how long the staff took to make them. Plus, it doesn't take a lot to smile and look as though you appreciate your customers.

Everything closes earlier than we are used to in Stornoway, so we were lucky enough to shop here before they left for the day. They had such a great variety of jams, spreads, biscuits, crisps and candies for us to take home for friends and family. We all were able to find something we liked!

On our recent visit to Stornoway, this butchers was a super find! Not just black pudding, pies, fresh ready meals and normal butcher meats. Excellent for stocking up your fridge when visiting and superb for shoving straight in the oven after a day exploring. So happy I took stuff home with me.

Boat tour agency
Stornoway Seafari Ltd is a boat tour agency based in Stornoway, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the rich history of the area. They provide tours around various historical sites, including the Iolaire Memorial, which commemorates a tragic incident that occurred on New Year's Day in 1919. The HMY Iolaire sank after hitting a rock while bringing sailors back from World War I.
Excellent trip, good value for money for the time out and see dolphins, eagles and minke whale. Oh and the owners dog who was the star of the show jumping between boats. Excellent trip that was much appreciated.
S T — Google review
Nice trip! No whales or dolphins, but very relaxing with a lot of seals.
Karl K — Google review
We went on the longer 4 hour trip and sitting on Rib seats can be quite uncomfortable. The seats are designed for 2 people and you will be quite intimate with the bouncing movement of the boat! Also, at the back you will get wet due to spray and waves. Gordy the skipper with us for the day, started well, but then seemed to loose interest during the trip in explaining the sights and pointing out the wild life. This was made worse for us (as we were at the back of the rib) with the noise of the engine, sea and spay, which muffled much of his commentary.
Mark E — Google review
Excellent and interesting trip but four hours is a long time without a comfort break. The seats are extremely uncomfortable and you have to sit pillion with another passenger which is very close especially if one or both of you are on the larger side. We saw a dolphin not far from Stornoway, lots of seals somewhere near Lochs and thousands of puffins at the Shiants. The islands themselves were fascinating.
Christine J — Google review
Gordy and Maxine run a wonderful business; highly professional and great equipment
Tom N — Google review
Brilliant experience with Gordy (and Sonny the puppy!) on his boat last week. We opted for the 4 hour trip and were glad that we did as it gave us the time to have some amazing encounters with the local wildlife! Best of all was the pod of dolphins that were alongside the boat for at least 30 minutes, leaping and playing! Also very interesting to go out to the Shiant Isles as part of the trip. One bit of feedback was that when Gordy was explaining things about local history, wildlife etc, it was often difficult to hear what he was saying as he would talk out to sea, rather than face the passengers! Mindful that he is piloting a boat as well, but it would've been interesting to hear what he was saying while at sea when the boat was stationary.
Matthew C — Google review
These guys were brilliant. Gordy and Chris were professional, friendly and entertaining. More importantly they were as excited about seeing stuff as we were. We saw loads of dolphins, minke whales, puffins, sea eagles...made my daughter's birthday very special. Highly recommended!
Jeannie D — Google review
Wow, what an amazing experience. We were lucky enough to see seals, eagles, puffins, dolphins and to top it off minky whales. The dolphins swam along side the boat at arms length away. Thanks For a great trip.

Nestled in the heart of Lewis, Comunn Eachdraidh Nis is a delightful stop that combines local history with a cozy café experience. Founded in 1977, this charming venue serves as an archive for the area's rich heritage. Although the museum was undergoing renovations during my visit, it still offered fascinating exhibits showcasing the community's past. The welcoming atmosphere immediately enveloped us as we were greeted with warm smiles and given a brief tour upon arrival.
What a find! The Ness Historical Society operates a lovely museum and a cafe which serves great food. After enjoying our lunch, we wandered through the museum which covered prehistoric to modern times. It is beautifully kept and very informative, well worth a stop. As an additional bonus for me, there is a well-tended greenhouse and several raised box gardens in the back, showing off mammoth cabbage and other good-looking veg.

Very good museum with some interesting and unique historic exhibits from the local area. Local guide was extremely helpful. Fascinating history of the Guga hunters, Harris tweed weaving and even a full Decca Navigation exhibit. Some delightful local arts and crafts, with great selection of gifts in the shop. Cafe was good, including good selection of cakes and food. Well worth the visit!

Insightful visit to Comunn Eachdraidh Nis. A lovely and enriching experience that offered a meaningful glimpse into the local Gaelic community and its heritage. The exhibits and atmosphere reflected genuine care and pride, making the visit both informative and heartfelt. Absolutely worth stopping by for anyone interested in the culture and history of Lewis.

Very interesting museum, mostly around the social history of the local area. Worth going to visit, entry is a suggested donation of £3 per person. Visit the on site coffee ☕️ shop. They have an extensive menu, better still the salad and veg is growing behind the museum, can't get any fresher than that.

Brought my Dad here as his father was originally from Ness. We thought it was fantastic, items were displayed well and with great thought, the whole place was immaculately clean and the staff were wonderful. The coffee shop was well laid out, menu choices were very good, the staff were lovely and the service was swift. Would highly recommend a visit to this place.

The food here was okay... The soups was supposed to be scotch broth but was definitely either tomato or minestrone. The toasties were nice and the staff were friendly enough, apart from the older woman who was rather rude to us when we first came in. Seemed to be very busy with bus tours so the cafe can either be rammed full, or pretty dead.

The Iolaire Memorial is a significant landmark that pays tribute to the tragic sinking of the ship on its return from World War, resulting in the death of more than 205 soldiers and crew. The impact of this loss is still deeply felt by residents of Stornoway and Lewis islands. The memorial serves as an educational tool and a way to honor those who lost their lives in the incident.
Fairly large carpark at the end of the single track road, just keep heading towards the small wind farms. There are no amenities here, so go before. The path towards the memorial is a well tarmacked gentle incline with some information on the way down to it. The memorial is by the side of the original cairn. The day we went was cold, bright and calm, on such a day, the area looked beautiful and almost impossible to believe the ferociousness of the sea on that fateful night. Such an awful loss for such a small and close community. Just reading the names gives you an idea of the devastation with the same surnames repeated many times. A quiet place for contemplation.

Wizard P — Google review
It's a good place for kids to play. Food takes a long time to come when it's busy but is always good quality and fresh. Updated menu is really good. A few times parts of my order have been forgotten (which is understandable as they get very busy at times) but staff are always apologetic and rectify the mistake quickly.
Shaun D — Google review
Been to this soft play a few times. Unfortunately, the food is very very slow. In the summer I could understand as it was busy. The last visit there were no food orders before ours and it still took over 30 mins for a microwave pizza. Adult food always comes first and then the child’s food, piping hot so they can only look at it. Kids milk forgotten on 2 occasions and had to ask for it again.
Chris P — Google review
Prices have gone up to £5 per child. An expensive day out if you have three kids. The smell of old chip fat permeated the whole area. Our clothes were smelling of it when we left.

Memorial Gardens Play Area has undergone significant changes since the 80s, now featuring a splash zone and an impressive castle-themed play structure. The grounds are well-maintained with beautiful flowers, making it a great place for families to enjoy. There's a small splash pad area and separate play areas for different age groups, including a sand pit. During summer, there's a wet play area with pop-up springs.
Very clean , great play equipment especially the sensory area. Water spray was fun and yes..I did get wet to my daughter's amusement.
Jason C — Google review
Lovely big play area with splash park in the summer! Only issue is that with all of the cladding it's tricky to see children when they're climbing ladders, an activity on which they're likely to hurt themselves! This is my only fault with the place, but my son loves it here, and could easily spend hours without getting bored!

Really nice Park with a small splash pad area. There is a big Castle play area for the bigger kids and another area for smaller kids with a sand pit. The splash pad is a bit small and only seems to work every ten minutes, although I think it's a bit rubbish the kids absolutely love it so what do I know.

I used to go to this park as a kid back in the 80s, only had a paddling pool then. Now it has a splash zone, kids play area with an impressive castle themed play structure. The grounds are well kept too. Nice flowers. Really nice place for kids and families or if you just want to sit out on a lawn with a non alcoholic beverage in the sun.
