Lake
Loch Broom is a picturesque sea loch that serves as a significant wildlife habitat and is home to various bird species. Ullapool, a charming fishing village situated on the eastern shore of Loch Broom, is a popular tourist destination in the Scottish Highlands. The village offers an array of accommodations, shops, and dining options. Visitors can explore the scenic harbor area and access ferries to the Hebrides from Ullapool.
On our way from the Clashnessie falls towards the Bealach Na Ba viewpoint, we made a short stop on shore St. Ullapool, at the shore of Loch Broom. It's a pretty road with a stunning scenery, and right across the Harbour, there are numerous gift shops, pubs, bars and other essentials. Well, it's yet another calming and charming Scottish place to take a break from a long day journey.

Stunning scenery. A magnificent drive. Ullapool is a great place with many pubs and restaurants. Great B&Bs and excellent self catering cottages.

Lovely place, unfortunately alot of visitors to the area are disrespectful, leaving litter etc. Please if you visit think of the residents and the environment.

Lovely part of the country. Very scenic surroundings and Fishing the loch is good and holds many species of saltwater fish

Certainly visited Lochbroom which is a tidal (sea) loch in the north west of Scotlan and in a stunning area which I would tell everyone to add to their bucket list. "Lake Lochbròom" I have never heard of and have no idea in which country you'll find it. My five stars are awarded for Lochbroom in Wester Ross, Scotland.

Museum
History Museums
Ullapool Museum, located in a restored church, offers an engaging exploration of Ullapool's history, including its fishing, crofting, and social heritage. The museum features interactive displays and artifacts suitable for all ages. Hiking to Stac Pollaidh from Ullapool is a short but rewarding experience. The museum also tells the story of Loch Broom and its fishing history, the Highland Clearances, and the Dutch sailing ship The Hector.
This small museum houses a great deal of local history information. In addition there are references to Neolithic activity in the area. Well worth a visit. 👍👍👍
D F — Google review
A small museum that can be particularly interesting from a theological point of view. It is located in an old church building: only a few of this type still exist. However, the history of the village is presented in general.
Phil — Google review
The entrance price is £6.50. I am disabled and on 2 crutches. I had a Carer with me. I asked if there were disabled concessions, as part of the museum is upstairs. The person behind the desk said there wasn't and said there wasn't much upstairs anyway. She did say that she would bring anything downstairs that we wanted to look at, but that was the last we saw of her. There wasn't a whole lot in the museum to warrant the £6.50. I have been to similar museums, with a charge, where they have given me a reduced price, since I can't get upstairs and let my Carer in free. Pretty poor show!
Karen B — Google review
The Museum is housed in a small old church and is staffed by volunteers. There, you can discover the social history of Ullapool and Loch Broom and get an insight into crofting, fishing, and emigration. During the clearances, Ullapool was one of the ports through which evicted crofters left to start new lives abroad, and some of the displays tell their stories. It is well worth a visit.
James C — Google review
Popped in here as a heavy rain shower came up the loch , its an old church staffed by volunteers but i thought the entrance fee of £6.50 was a bit much for what there was on display , lots of stuff about the local area from the clearances to the Klondikers and as im from the west coast that held my interest but my partner from Aberdeenshire wasnt so enamoured
Tork M — Google review
A small sized museum in Ullapool with a great lot of reading about the town and local areas history with some local writings from the times as well.

Seafood restaurant
The Seafood Shack in Ullapool is a seasonal local seafood spot that operates from a food trailer with limited hours and outdoor seating. It offers simple yet excellent casual dining, making it a popular choice for visitors looking to savor the best of West Coast delicacies. The cozy atmosphere and beautiful views add to the overall experience, making it one of the top places to enjoy fresh seafood in Ullapool.
Loved this place! It was a cold raining day and we managed to find a table under the canopy and wait for our food. The queue was small and in less than 15 minutes everything was ready. We tried the haddock wrap, the Cullen skink and the seafood taster. Everything was freshly made and very good. Nice portions and very good prices. Thank you guys, everything is amazing!
Silvia B — Google review
Very delicious fish! It said “today’s” menu which I think implies that it varies based upon availability of fresh fish. I can especially recommend the wrap! Small “drawback”: there aren’t any smaller servings on the menu, so be sure to arrive with enough appetite to finish your meal! The atmosphere is good and the staff is very kind, but being next to a road meant I didn’t want to hang around after my meal was finished.
JPK. P — Google review
Had seen the Seafood Shack posted on a user group elsewhere, rude not try it on our road trip. Parked up outside for the 1 limit, popped in and ordered, then the rain arrived, so stepped into the motorhome and ate the delicious Haddock Wrap and coujons. Easy to find and park. Recommended
Keith P — Google review
I believe I’ve found my ultimate "death row meal" right here—truly unforgettable. Every portion was served with flawless consistency, each plate mirroring the last in both presentation and quality. The seafood was impeccably fresh and bursting with flavor. Even the accompanying elements—the buttered bread, the oatcake, and the rich garlic mayonnaise—were so delightful, they had me humming with joy. I’m genuinely blown away. Thank you so much for having us—it was an experience to remember. ✌🏽♥️
Shirene D — Google review
Great food, and great atmosphere. Tempura battered fish wrap was awesome. Also the smoked mackerel pate was great. I would definitely come back.
Phil — Google review
Though a bit expensive, the food is Top-notch. The battered haddock wrap was very tasty. Please be mindful of birds in the area. One did soil our food, which affected our overall dining experience. The picturesque atmosphere is breathtaking, especially during the rain.
Nikhil M — Google review
Seafood Shack – Fresh, Flavourful, and Full of Charm Seafood Shack in Ullapool is a real gem — the food is absolutely lovely, with generous portions and everything tasting super fresh and full of flavour. You can really tell it’s all made with care, and it’s exactly the kind of hearty, satisfying meal you crave when you’re up in the Highlands. The ladies serving were so pleasant and welcoming, adding to the whole feel-good experience. My only wish is that there was a bit more cover — because even in classic Scottish weather (rain, wind, cold!), I still want to enjoy their food, but it’s tricky when you’ve nowhere to shelter. Still, 100% worth a visit. If you're passing through Ullapool, don’t miss it — just bring a jacket or a brolly and go for it!
Joanna B — Google review
The best fish and chips / fish soup ever in a shack place. It’s simply excellent, tasty , flavors well handled between the fresh fish, sauce and bread… soups with huge pieces of fish, no joking with food in that place… A must try in town.

Embark on a remarkable adventure with Kayak Summer Isles, where you can explore the rugged islands and their abundant wildlife. Take a boat trip on Loch Broom to uncover hidden gems. Experience the care and effort put into overnight trips, including delicious meals cooked by knowledgeable guides who tailor routes to your experience level. Learn about local history, wildlife, and activities while enjoying sightings of dolphins and white-tailed eagles.
We did a half-day trip canoe trip guided by Tim around Loch Lurgainn and had a fantastic time. The equipment was of really high quality and Tim was a great guide - friendly, helpful, and made the trip very relaxed as well as tailoring it to our pace. Due to the stunning weather, we even managed a little swim in the Loch, followed by a very luxurious and tasty hot chocolate. I would definitely recommend booking a trip if visiting the area.
Vicki H — Google review
An incredible experience long been on our bucket list to kayak around the summer isles. Spent the day guided by Andy who had a wealth of knowledge and experience. Weather was sublime and conditions couldn’t have been better for spotting coastal wildlife including giant sea urchins, a possy of beautiful jelly fish pulsating in their hundreds together and the icing on the cake were the dolphins who joined us towards the end. Outstanding day. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Excellent day out. A really good standard of kit provided and solid coaching where required. Any level of experience would appreciate Will’s guiding. Superb location and a plan tailored to our groups level of performance. Spot on would 100% recommend. ( the great coffee was a fabulous addition to the day )
Emma S — Google review
Such an amazing experience! Will, our guide, was informative and made us feel safe for our first time canyoning. The equipment provided was also great and Will went out of his way to get great pictures of our experience as we were too scared to take our phones. Would definitely book again :).
Becca G — Google review
Excellent day Kayaking around the beautiful Summer Isles. Our instructor Andy was friendly and informative and makes a mean hot chocolate. His timely tips meant we felt we improved our skills while enjoying the whole experience.
Steve M — Google review
I spent last week up in northern Scotland on one of Kayak Summer Isles' multi day trips. We were based near Thurso and headed out to different locations each day. Our guides, Will and Andy, were brilliant; really great paddlers but good company too! Each day was carefully planned around the weather and tides, ensuring we got to see plenty of incredible scenery but also challenge ourselves, if we wanted to, along the way. Our group had some mixed levels of ability and experience but everything was so smoothly run that we didn't encounter any difficulties or issues at all, even when launching into over a meter of surf or paddling through lumpy tide races. Will's encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and different features meant we didn't miss any opportunities; each cave, stack, tunnel and arch was explored and enjoyed. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the water with everyone and will definitely join another of Will's trips again. As a reasonably seasoned kayaker myself, I rarely join commercial trips as I belong to several clubs and am a pretty happy solo paddler, but with trips and guides as good as this, I consider it well worth the expense.
Leigh — Google review
Amazing!!! A must do experience with an amazing guide in some of the most stunning scenery around Scotland. This was by far our best day out of all 2 weeks of our trip around Scotland! Will is a lovely, knowledgeable, personable, fun and friendly guy who made me (nervous on water) feel very comfortable and safe. We had a brilliant sunny calm day on the water which helped, Will talked to us about local plants, birds, sea life and history, and had amazing knowledge of the waters and natural life around us. We went into a cave, which was very cool, and around some stunning summer isle coastlines, we saw some jellyfish, a deer and lots of a seabirds. We will 100% be doing the full day tour or be of the overnight trips when we come back. Absolutely worth the money (not too pricey either!).Would recommend to anyone and everyone visiting the area as a must do experience.

A wonderful space, a gallery showing changing exhibitions of art. As of April '25 has a fascinating exhibition on Greenland and Glaciers including a beautiful film. There is a small shop with excellent prints and cards.
Chris R — Google review
Visited during a stay in Ullapool in October 2025. At that time there was an exhibition on featuring work from their members. Incredible range and great level of talent on display. Access the building through the doors up a small path from the car park beside the village hall. There's a desk by the front door where you can make a donation and a small shop area which featured prints, ceramics and cards among other things. Would be a great place to pick up a gift for yourself or someone else. Gallery all on one level, no stairs or steps.

Ullapool Golf Club is a fantastic 9-hole course that offers a picturesque setting along Loch Broom. The course requires players to strategize their shots, making it more about precision than power. The greens are well-maintained, and the clubhouse provides great service. Even non-golfers can enjoy the club's offerings, such as top-quality food and excellent service with a scenic view of the golf course. Visitors highly recommend this place for its delicious breakfast and pleasant staff.
Amazing course with stunning scenery. 9 hole course, with slightly different tee boxes for the back 9, which kept it feeling like 18 different holes. Played as a visitor, £25 for 18 holes, £5 for club rental and £5 for a lovely breakfast at the on-site cafe. Used balls and tees available to purchase.
Craig C — Google review
We were told this place was the best place in Scotland for a Breakfast.....and they didn't disappoint. Youll need to drive here as its out of town a bit, which is the only let down. Staff are really pleasant, the food is excellent and reasonably priced aswell. It's clean and cozy. If your looking for a good breakfast, this is the place to go.
Vulcan R — Google review
Lovely scenery to provide a distraction if your golf lets you down. Excellent well priced community club with catering and welcoming visitors. The second hole, a Par 3 from an elevated tee to the lochside green is the stand out for me
Gordon B — Google review
Fantastic course, now played 5 9 hole courses on the NC 500 and this didn't disappoint. It's a course where you have to plot your shots rather than unleashing the driver. Holes 2 and 3 I would say are the most picturesque along loch broom. Greens were in excellent condition and gutted ai am only in Ullapool for 1 day as I would have liked to play it again. Great friendly service in the clubhouse too.
Stuart M — Google review
Another 9 hole gem on the NC500. Some great holes alongside Loch Broom and wonderful scenery all around! Not to be missed!

Three of us were on a motorcycling trip around Scotland and on 27th August came upon Ullapool Golf Club by chance, and we were so glad that we did. On a sunny warm day, we enjoyed a late lunch here overlooking the gold course. Top quality food - I've not had a better Beef Stroganoff! - and excellent service, both professional, prompt and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place.

West Coast Delicatessen is a cheerful spot in Ullapool, offering a variety of deli sandwiches, charcuterie boards, salads, as well as soup, tea and coffee. Visitors have praised the deli for its good sandwiches and breakfast takeaway options. The establishment has garnered positive reviews for its warm welcome and convenient location. It's known for serving meals all day and is considered a great place to grab some takeaway food.
An absolute gem in Ullapool: Their sandwiches and cakes were so delicious, we had to come back the next day. Vegan options available for both savoury and sweet (my friend said that her chocolate muffin was one of the best vegan muffins she‘d ever tried), plus they are autism-aware! Also, the ladies behind the counter are a delight to talk to.

The toasties were out of this world. The ham/cheese, pastrami/cheese toasties and coffee were great. The only recommendation would be to give some napkins with the toasti. Furthermore, very nice shop with high quality products. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very very friendly. I would definitely recommend to any by-passer or visitor.

A great stop for a delicous filled roll and tasty coffee sitting outside watching the world go by but what we came back to again and again was the fantastic selection of cheeses from all over the North of Scotland and beyond. Lovely bookshop, tidy, inviting, well organised, helpful, wide choice, also good cards. Friendly folks. Easy to find, just back from the main harbour, you’ll pass it if heading to main car park. Bought cook book by the seafood shack…. That’s just down the road and worth a visit.

Guest house
Harbour House is a charming lodging with a beautiful garden by the loch, offering a residents' lounge and complimentary breakfast. The hotel provides exceptional service, catering to the needs of guests, such as accommodating cyclists with secure bike storage and ample parking. The rooms are impeccably clean, and the lounge offers stunning views. While the hotel is modern and somewhat generic in style, it compensates with its picturesque location and friendly staff.
A very warm welcome with the choice of sherry or whisky along with biscuits. The room was quite small but clean and well cared with a bathroom as well. A very cosy lounge and a terrace with a great view on Ullapool Harbour. Breakfast was delicious with quite a variety of food. The personnel was friendly and supportive. We stayed at the hotel just one night. So everything was just perfect.

Teeny tiny twin room with an even teenier tinier bathroom. But we had a loch view and it was given to us spotlessly clean so that made up for it. The shampoo was nice. The beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was included. One of us had porridge, the other a full Scottish, no complaints. All the staff were very kind and friendly.
Claire B — Google review
Stayed here for 1 night while doing the NC500. Our host gave us a really nice welcome and even gave us a welcome glass of sherry or whisky. Our room was clean, comfortable and modern. Breakfast was delicious and had a decent choice. Would recommend and would stay here again.

What an absolute gem of a find! From the fantastic warm welcome on arrival to our lovely well appointed room with so many nice touches; bottles of water, biscuits, and homely touches. Everything spotlessly clean and modern. Wish we could have stayed longer. Worth every penny. Breakfast delicious. Views are simply stunning. The customer lounge is vast with comfy chairs and glorious loch views. Go and grab your takeaway and wine / beer and return to enjoy your feast. Exactly what we did and plates and cutlery, plus glasses are available. We can’t thank you enough for such a memorable stay and we hope to return in the future.
Nicola M — Google review
Good place to stay for a night or two. We had a room with loch view. The room is more than big enough for the two of us and had a descent size bathroom. The rooms were very clean and everything looked as new. We were welcomed by the owner with a glass of whisky and home made shortbread. The breakfast was fantastic, we could order from the kitchen. The kids had a separate room with 2 single beds. Would recommend to stay if you are doing the NC500.
Jeroen S — Google review
I can not say enough about this place. We stayed in the luxury cabins down by the water which were only a short walk down a gravel path from the hotel itself. The receptionist was so nice every time we needed anything! They walked us back to the rooms and pointed out all the important things about the hotel and our room quickly on the way. The view from the rooms was amazing and they even provided very nice binoculars which made it easy to look at the waterfalls on the other side of the bay. The cabins were immaculate and it felt like a luxury resort with spacious closet, large bed, big vanity, backlit mirror, spacious shower, etc. They definitely thought of everything and provided everything we could have needed. Their breakfast was probably the best we had in Scotland and they didn’t require a reservation time. Our whole group said if we come back to Scotland we should stay in Ullapool longer so we could stay here!

Everything about this place was great. My only regret was staying just one night. They welcomed us with whiskey and sherry and made us feel at home. The lounge area is huge and beautiful. We purchased drinks at the Tesco and had ourselves a fantastic evening watching the bay out on the porch. The host provided us with ice and glasses. The rooms were great. Clean, comfortable, and efficient. The breakfast was top tier. Perfect stay!

Shearwater (Summer Queen) Cruises offers boat tours from Ullapool Harbour, taking visitors to the Summer Isles and Wester Ross Marine Protected Area. The approximately 2-hour 15-minute cruises provide opportunities to spot eagles, porpoises, seals, and other wildlife. Guests can enjoy commentary and humorous anecdotes while taking in the Highland scenery, wildlife, nature, and history.
Signed up on the website the night before and got on the 10am Sunday cruise. Ample safety instructions were given and off we went. I was surprised how knowledgeable and passionate the guide was about the conservation of the area. It was impressive. Along the trip we didn’t spot any dolphins or whales but saw a number of seals, in and out of the water. We also saw some sea eagles, apparently rare, some rare breeds of ponies, and a lot of jellyfish. That doesn’t include the fascinating coastline and small islands we saw. It was cold in the front of the boat, so be prepared and bring gloves just in case. This was June. If you didn’t want to brave the cold there were indoor seats available in a heated area. A bathroom was also on board. In short, a good 2+ hour trip If you’re visiting Ullapool.

Such a fantastic trip. Knowledgeable and friendly staff with a great sense of humour who were extremely helpful with the wheelchair user in our family group. Loved the commentary and the stunning scenery. The boat is very comfortable. Our trip was a full trip but it didn’t feel crowded; it was easy to move around and everyone could see the water. We had fabulous sightings of porpoise, dolphins, minke whale, seals, gannets, arctic skuas and other bird life. We would recommend this trip.
Debbie C — Google review
A really amazing wildlife trip out to the Summer islands through Loch Broom with a couple of hosts who know so much about the areas wildlife and history , it was worth it just to hear the many stories that were told during the 2 1/2 hour trip but we also got to see harbour seals , porpoises and plenty of seabirds , unfortunately no sea eagles or dolphins on this trip but maybe next time , wrap up warm as even in June it gets cold out in the open seas. small tip if you want to hear the commentary clearly dont sit on the bottom deck near the outboard engines , we had to move upstairs to hear the tannoy.
Tork M — Google review
Very professional crew yet friendly & relaxed. Really considerate when dealing with the dolphins, approached & departed carefully. Lots of interesting information about the history of the area. Moine Thrust! All in all, a really enjoyable, worthwhile trip. 😊

Fantastic morning out on the boat. Our guide and skipper where top notch. 3 large pods of dolphins ( with babies), seals a seaeagle and lot's of other birds. My day was completed by a visit from a red squirrel and a pinemartin later on my balcony. Could not have asked for more.
Kirsten K — Google review
Absolutely great cruise to the Summer Isles ! We had the chance to see lots of dolphins and many see birds. The guide was very interesting and pretty funny. Hé had a lot of stories and seems very found of his community. Overall, pleasant trop, suitable for kids who can go inside of the boat if they don't like the wind.
Alain B — Google review
Excellent, informative tour with lots of sightings of Minky whales and dolphins galore. The guide was friendly, funny and knowledgeable. The commentary was often quite difficult to hear over the engine noise. Maybe they could use headphones to get over this issue - just an idea. Thanks for an excellent morning out and for organising such beautiful weather!
Philip D — Google review
One of the best days of my life. Great commentary, great scenery topped off with dolphins. Well organised with a clean, modern boat with an emphasis on safety. I'm looking forward to many more trips in the future. Lady at the booking office walked some way to put a note in our windscreen for parking attendant. How lucky I am to live just 40 minutes away.

My wife and I had a fantastic week long stay here. What a great place!!! Fiona, Aga and Calum (and puppy Morag) are a brilliant team who are so hard working, keeping the hostel in immaculate condition, and making everyone feel so welcome! There is so so much to do in and around Ullapool, with the hostel perfectly located on the promenade. We will be back!!!

Probably one of the best located hostels I've seen. It was my first time staying in a youth hostel so was unsure what to expect, this place is exceptional in every way, the beds were really comfy, nice hot showers, location right on the seafront in Ullapool was great too. Callum on reception was really friendly and knowledgeable, he recommended some pubs to visit and also advised on local takeaways (which you can eat in the communal dining room in the hostel) all in all, I had a great stay and would definitely come again, a bargain at 30 quid!

Guests have the opportunity to observe white-tailed eagles, common and grey seals, oystercatchers, cormorants, jellyfish, and other beautiful animals amidst the stunning Scottish scenery.
Dolphins, seals and eagles!!! Had a great 6pm trip for 1 hr just out of the loch and back. Fortunately we got to see dolphins, grey seals, common seals and a couple of white tailed eagles. The captain was fab and he really made sure we spent time where everyone wanted to rather than sticking to a rigid route plan. Very friendly and helpful lady at the office/hut by the harbour too.

Five stars doesn’t really feel like enough! We went on the two hour RIB expedition and it was easily the highlight of our trip to beautiful Ullapool. The staff were all fantastic - on the shore and on the boat, friendly professional and very knowledgeable. We were kitted out with life jackets and overalls that kept us warm and dry. The scenery was just breathtaking - even if we hadn’t seen any wildlife, the scenery alone would have justified the price. But on top of that we also saw common seals, grey seals, dolphins and lots of different sea birds. The boat ride was exhilarating - wet and windy even on a sunny summer’s day - so not one for those prone to sea-sickness, but a big hit for the thrill-seekers. Highly recommended!!
Katie A — Google review
I had a great experience with Seascape expeditions. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I paid for a 3-hour expedition like a combo of whale and dolphin watching, cave exploration, and seal watching. It was quite cold on the sea but the good thing is they provide you with very thick overalls which help a lot. We could not get too close to see the minke whales, so I did not take any photos or videos but there are definitely some whales that can be spotted from a distance. Dolphins are way more friendly and approachable. They followed our boat for a long time and jumped out of the water to greet us. We also saw some jellyfish near this stunning cave. I wish we had stayed in the cave a bit longer. It was a very impressive cave. By the time we returned to the shore, we were very lucky because one of the fishing boats also returned, two seals were lingering around, asking for food, but they didn’t get any from us obviously, yet they still had a lot of interaction with us which was really adorable. Overall, this experience was enjoyable and I definitely recommend it.
Etheria H — Google review
Probably the best way we have e spent our money so far in Scotland! Great 3 hour boat ride/tour out and about the Summer Isles. Saw some Minke whale but it was the seals ND the dolphins that made this trip great. Josh did a fantastic job navigating and finding us wildlife to view. Even got to hold a small jellyfish. Highly recommend this attraction if in Ullapool! Unfortunately my phone died right after seeing the Eagles so no pics of the dolphins.
Jamie M — Google review
We were very lucky and got to see dolphins, seals and so many birds. They have suits so that you don’t get cold in the wind or too wet. Great driver Carlos, all felt very safe. Was amazing

Daniel H — Google review
Fantastic from start to finish . Great staff, well equipped, lots and lots of wildlife sightings, fun to go in the rib too and lovely full trip out to see the incredible scenery. Worth every penny and would recommend it as a definite thing to do if you are visiting Ullapool.

We decided to do this trip (2 hour to the Summer Isles) at the last minute and I’m so glad we did. We saw 2 Minke whales, lots of seals and so many dolphins and harbour porpoises. The porpoises were really performing - so many jumps and right alongside the boat. They kit you out in a full, warm waterproof overalls as it gets quite chilly out at sea. I am not very brave on boats but felt completely safe and comfortable the whole trip. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Ullapool.

Delicious food with a view. Waiters are warm and accommodating Spicy Salmon Pasta was delicious. The longer wait for the food to arrive was well worth it. For the dessert I recommend the Sticky Toffee!
Andrei G — Google review
Lovely restaurant with a view, and the food was unexpectedly delicious. The service can be a bit slow, especially if you're hungry, but it's worth the wait. I had the Balmoral chicken and the sticky toffee and omg they were both amazing. A perfect lunch before sailing off.

We found this restaurant in Ullapool quite unfriendly. Despite having small children, we were seated outside, which wasn’t ideal. Prices felt very high — even by UK standards — and the food didn’t match the cost. Our kids didn’t eat half their meals as they didn’t enjoy them. Overall, very disappointing.

Delicious fish meals and good service. It's not our first time and it won't be last. Keep up the good job you're doing 👏
Stefan S — Google review
Nice restaurant. Not too classy (understatement) but we had good mussels and fish. They add 10% service charge to your bill without asking so beware. Staff is friendly so no problem for us
Ruys B — Google review
3 battered sausages, 1 large chips and two haddock burgers cost £50 here. The same at home (London) we get for £30. Food was nice to be fair but the chips portions are incredibly stingy, a large chips looks smaller than a small and the chips with my £13 haddock burger wouldn’t feed a child. Wouldn’t return or recommend stopping here just based on the poor value.

It offers a selection of hot beverages, delicious tray bakes, and savory takeaway options like homemade sausage rolls. The shop also features locally made products and provides a lovely view of the harbor from its outdoor seating area. Visitors have praised the friendly staff, tasty cakes, and clean facilities at this delightful spot along Scotland's North Coast 500 route.
Don't let the outside put you off, this is a lovely wee cafe, theres only a couple of small tables inside but sitting out side looking across the loch to the mountains is the way to go. We had tea and coffee and the carrot cake. Now I know we're not the first to comment on the carrot cake but honestly, it was among the best we've ever had. The cafe also have a good selection of gifts, my partner got two necklaces so it must be good😂. The 2 ladies serving were very friendly and cheerfull so yes we would recomend it.

The most welcoming coffee stop, lemon brownie to die for and delicious hot coffee. Lots of lovely gifts available too x
Joanne K — Google review
Coffee was from a machine and wasn’t very good. Main issue was I ordered the runny scotch egg. It was not runny at all and was close to hard boiled. I raised this with staff who said the sign is wrong and they need to change it. No apologies, no alternative offered. If they know their sign is wrong why not mention it when I asked about the scotch egg initially?! Think I was either lied to/fobbed off and the staff overcooked the scotch egg accidentally, or if not then it’s just a pure scam to make something sound much better than it actually is. Icing on the cake was no apology or acknowledgement they’d messed up. Was £4.95 for the warm runny scotch egg (which wasn’t runny at all). Was akin to a supermarket scotch egg warmed in the microwave. 100% would not recommend.

On the front at Ullapool with great views down the Loch. Coffee was ok but the sandwiches, whilst nice were a bit disappointing, the filling was good but the bread looked like it came from the nearby Tesco's. Not the cheapest either at £20 for two sandwiches and two coffees.
Martin A — Google review
Sought out this place to support a local independent business. Lovely little shop on the seafront with a couple of tables outside to sit and enjoy the coffee and a view of the harbour. Selection of tray bakes and other cakes (marsbar cake comes recommended) hot beverages and a few savoury takeaway options like homemade sausage rolls. Had a quick browse of the non-edibles and was taken by the array of nice locally made products. Staff were very friendly and eager to help. Support people like these and keep Costa and other big brands from these lovely little towns.

Visitor Centers
VisitScotland Ullapool iCentre, located in the heart of town, offers a wealth of information about the local area and its history. The center provides a wide range of books and leaflets for visitors, as well as friendly and knowledgeable staff who are eager to assist with travel plans and provide advice on places to visit. Visitors can also find a good selection of gifts at the center.
I popped in here today to buy some gifts (of which there are a good selection) and the friendly man on the till asked me about our trip. When he heard that we were on our way to Durness he kindly gave me a map with his suggestions of places to visit on the way. This changed our whole route and without it we wouldn't have seen the beautiful Ardvrek Castle or spent a very happy couple of hours on the sunny Achmelvich Beach. The dog was happy too! Thank you so much for your advice - it has contributed to making this a trip of a lifetime!

This is one of the better tourist information centres that I've visited. In addition to the usual leaflets, there were a wide range of books on sale and the walls were covered in large scale maps. We were able to discuss our travel plans and get advice on places to visit and how easy the roads were to travel along. The staff also suggested good places to stop for coffee and also spoke to foreign visitors in their language.
Peter M — Google review
Owing to it's knowledgeable and friendly staff, this information centre is a must for anyone visiting the region for the first time. One staff member in particular, John, changed our day and impacted our plans for days to come after sharing his expertise and insights regarding the region. Just a wonderful service, delivered by a wonderful team. We can't thank them enough.

We called in on Thursday 14 September. Just wanted to say thanks to Kathleen for taking time to highlight things to do on the North Coast 500 up to Durness, and recommending the Quinag walk (and helpfully noting them all on a map for us!). Also, for the campsite list. We followed her advice and our trip was greatly enhanced as a result :) Kathleen's genuine enthusiasm for the area really made a difference. Thanks again!

The cafe's kitchen serves fantastic breakfast and brunch options, including a tasty vegan avocado smash with a side of portabello mushroom. The ambiance is lovely with pleasant smells from the bakery and stylish sage decor. Despite being popular, the staff are friendly and efficient.
Small cafe in the town and very good coffee and breakfast. The food took more than 30 Minutes to arrive, they were busy and maybe had not experienced large numbers of customers at one time. Loved the lynx sausage in a bun.

This is a really cute brunch spot, with lovely decor and good quality food and drinks. The smoothie and milkshakes are particularly good. It would be nice to see some more vegetarian options on the menu and some of the pricing is a bit steep, which is why I’ve rated it 4 rather than 5.

Extremely rude to customer. I guess they don’t like tourist. None of the employees smiled, clearly arrogant. They supposely ran out of hamburgers at 12:30….I suppose a nice way to tell you to go somewhere else. Portions are extremely small. Scottish restaurant
The Dipping Lugger in Ullapool is a recently renovated Georgian mansion located on the picturesque shores of Loch Broom. While the spacious and comfortable rooms are perfect for relaxation, the main highlight of this destination is its dining experience. The restaurant offers a fine dining experience with attentive and knowledgeable staff, making it an ideal place for a holiday treat. The menu features a variety of Indian dishes, including flavorful vegetarian options like Indian spinach (Saag).
My wife and I, together with two good friends from London, had been lucky enough to pre-book a table months ago, and visited for dinner on the 12 June. The food was absolutely outstanding, whilst 3 of us had the normal tasting menu, we had on booking made the restaurant aware that my wife does not like to eat seafood/fish and they have made every effort to replace the two fish dishes on the menu with equivalent vegetarian dishes. This was highly appreciated as we had recently visited another fine dining restaurant where the non-fish replacements for my wife had been rather disappointing. All courses were nicely presented, the flavours were balanced, deep and layered, and in all courses the main protein had been highlighted and not overpowered. The seafood dishes, scallop and langoustine were cooked to perfection. My favourite dish was the main meat course, deer, again cooked perfectly pink and with a juniper rub, which could have easily overpowered the flavour of the protein, but the chef managed to keep it perfectly in the background. My wife's favourite dish was the pea custard with pancetta crumbs, (which in my opinion could have benefitted from ever so slightly more pancetta) and my wife also was delighted to say that she never thought potato soup could be as delicious as in her "Jersey" dish. Both, pre-desert and main desert were wonderful, with the pre-desert providing some refreshing palate cleansing before the main desert. Overall it was a truly outstanding dinner, the service provided by Robert and staff was excellent and they were making us feel welcomed and provided a relaxing and friendly athmosphere. The portion size was exactly right, I personally hate it when a tasting menu is so limited in portion size that it provides almost only one bite and without the ability to try different combinations of the ingredients, very well done indeed. The only minor improvement to the athmosphere could be in bringing all tables into the main dining room. We had a place at a table for 4 which was seperated from the main area and with a bit of through traffic, however this was of no great detriment to our enjoyment of the evening. We will most definitely return to the Dipping Lugger in the future as we travel the Skye and Ullapool region at least once a year.

We had the menue with wine pairing and non-alcoholic pairing. All the dishes were outstanding in flavour, presentation and the whole did not leave you hungry. We enjoyed truffled madeleines and cheese sablé as snacks, followed by such a good homebaked crusty bread, scallops on a smoked fish risotto, gin cured halibut with curried cauliflower, squash custard, beef, potatoe purree, onions in three textures and much more.. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, service by Robert and his colleague very attentive and friendly. Hope to back one day to enjoy more of this phantastic cuisine!!!
Petra P — Google review
We stayed here for dinner, bed and breakfast and everything was absolutely amazing! Robert and the team took care of us from the moment we checked in. The service was excellent, getting a complimentary G&T to enjoy in the sitting room when we arrived, to getting a tin of sweets at checkout for the journey home - spot on!👌 The food was delicious and very good value for an 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The scallops were incredible, as was the venison. As a foodie, I would highly recommend a visit here!
Gabe F — Google review
Should have been better. A few key points where we felt our experience was lacking. 1. Wine. We asked for advice on the wine menu twice and told to "pick one from the pairings" and "anything from the menu is good, just pick one". If an extensive wine menu is offered, please understand it enough to offer something from it. Wine pairings complimented dishes well but came with no mention of why or how it compliments the dish. 2. Flavour. Each individual item had good flavour but the entire menu felt unbalanced and lacking in experience. Flavours were too big and resulted in a dish that lacked depth and complexity. The food felt more in-line with a menu half the price. 3. Attention to detail. Service was slow at times and often confused. The rose wine was introduced as "tasting like berries". No member of the kitchen team came to greet the tables. There was no story line to the menu - which was a total missed opportunity and pretty much a standard at this price point. We still enjoyed our night and there were plenty positives. A few items shined on their own (Deer, bread, and the chocolate pudding). Ultimately, our table agreed that the value is just not there.

The food is delicious and service was very friendly. As we were dining we were told where everything comes from locally, even pear chutney made from the village's pears. It's a cosy restaurant which allowed us to have a beautiful, relaxed meal and a lovely day out in Ullapool. I would highly recommend for lunch if you're looking for a fine dining taste of Ullapool, made with care and local ingredients.

This meal was starting in a good way. The entire dining area is beautifully decorated, warm and comforting. The service was relaxed while also thoughtful and caring. The food was exquisite. Each dish was presented with refinement and thoughtfulness. I expected a nice meal, I received a world-class dining experience.

Four of us had a fantastic meal here with the wine pairing. We were lucky we got in; we were on the waiting list and a table became available. The food, presentation and service were all excellent. It's not inexpensive, but I think this was the best meal I've had in a decade.
Linda W — Google review
I’m writing this review both as feedback for the restaurant and as a reference point for future customers. Our dinner for four came to £700 with tip (about $1,300 CAD), and that was without the wine pairing menu, which would have pushed it even higher. First, the positives: the town itself is lovely, the restaurant has a cozy charm, and the staff came across as genuinely friendly. Unfortunately, for the price point, I was expecting a Michelin-level experience, and it fell well short in terms of service, storytelling, and most importantly, flavour. Wine: The list was extensive, but when we asked our server for a recommendation, the response was, “they’re all good.” At this level, I would expect a sommelier, or at least someone deeply familiar with the menu who could guide us through it. Instead, we were left to pick for ourselves with no insight or pairing suggestions. Storytelling: Being in such a remote and inspiring part of the world, I expected each dish to be connected to the local ingredients and to come with a story about its inspiration. Instead, dishes were placed in front of us with only a quick rundown of ingredients. No narrative, no sense of place, just food on a plate. Michelin-quality restaurants are masters at weaving stories that make guests feel connected to the land and culture. That was completely missing here. Service: While the staff were warm, the service itself lacked polish. There was no attention to detail—comparable to a casual evening at a neighbourhood pub. At restaurants charging this much, service is usually almost telepathic—attentive without being intrusive. That level of care just wasn’t there. Flavour: This was the biggest letdown. At the end of the day, a restaurant’s job is to deliver excellent food, and across the table, all four of us agreed most dishes were unbalanced. Flavours often clashed or felt flat and one-dimensional. Overall: The food was prepared with solid technique, but in terms of flavour, service, and inspiration, this restaurant isn’t ready for a high-end tasting menu. I think they’d be better off leaning into a smaller à la carte menu at casual dining prices rather than charging world-class rates for an experience that doesn’t come close. I’ve had the privilege of dining at world-class restaurants around the globe, and I’ve had better food, service, and experiences for less than half the price.

Despite being shorter in length compared to Quinag and Suilven, the hike to Stac Pollaidh offers a perfect opportunity for a sunrise expedition. This makes it an ideal choice for those looking for a shorter yet rewarding outdoor adventure.

RV park
Broomfield Holiday Park in Ullapool offers pet-friendly accommodation, allowing you to camp with your furry friend and even catch a glimpse of the mesmerizing Northern Lights if you're lucky. The site provides stunning views and well-maintained toilet/shower blocks. It's conveniently located near the town, offering easy access to local attractions like the Bone Caves and the Seafood Shack restaurant.
It's all about the view & location. The site is clean and tidy, we didn't use the facilities but plenty of good comments by other. You can't book as it's 1st come 1st served but we were lucky enough to have a Loch side pitch. You will see the ferry go past a few times a day but we also had a cruise ship come in as well as a huge private yacht. Lucky enough to see a seal. We even booked an extra night - the gorgeous sunny and warm weather helped.
JULIE J — Google review
It's all about the location. The process to get in i actually like, queue up in your vehicle and first at the top goes into reception. Offers washing line with pegs on site which I thought was great, the pitches are a good size too. The reception is not very pleasant just walk in and check in...no information not even when toilets are cleaned but staff pleasant. Facilities dated, the building especially, shower heads heavy calcium build up, low water pressure. Toilet areas just need some investment however this is all about the location and they are very busy so I reckon the requirement or want to invest won't deliver any return. Ullapool is a nice place and this site has it all on your doorstep including fabulous views. For God sake don't arrive early ...not even a few minutes!! You will be sent on your way ...
Beverley M — Google review
Great location very helpful staff and reasonable prices, The toilets and showers were clean however dated I didn’t like having to remember a code to get in whilst standing in the rain. It was a short walk into Ullapool with nice bars shops and food. Well worth a stop over especially if you’re catching the ferry.
Richard S — Google review
Spent a fairly windy night on this site and enjoyed it very much. We opted for a non electric pitch and found a grass pitch looking over the loch, with direct access to the stoney beach. Despite other reviews, I found the facilities absolutely fine. It is a very short walk into Ullapool for shops and eating places. We enjoyed seafood sandwiches from Delicasea, crab and lingoustine. Excellent. It is a very large site and fills up over the day and evening and as there is no booking you take whatever pitch you fancy or whatever is left.
Nicholas F — Google review
We are touring the NC500 and needed somewhere to stay because of storm Floris, we were pleasantly supprised to find this holiday park, with ample amount of space for cars, vans, caravans and motorbikes, with or without electric hookup. We opted for electric hookup and are in a van only £33 and the views are amazing we have parked right near the waters edge of Loch Broom staff were friendly, toilets, shower, dishwash and laundry available , chemical toilet disposal, drinking water available to fill up water canisters. They have rubber matting to cover you electric hook ups which is a £20 returnable deposit. The only rule is you cant be here before until 11am no earlier and gates close at 7pm so you wouldnt be able to arrive after then. They dont take bookings however as previoisly stated there were plenty of spaces.
Penny V — Google review
Great campsite in a superb location and ideal to stop over if your catching the ferry the next day to the islands. Great value too at £33 for the night with EHU, no need to book, as there are plenty of spaces. View to die for at the side of the sea.
Alistair H — Google review
Ullapool is such a lovely place to visit, lots of great places to eat and quaint little gift shops to wander around. The scenery is second to none and this camp site offers the best view. We were camping in a tent and directed to pitch up at the back, whilst all the camper vans pitch along the shore. We took a chance and pitched our tent at the edge of the stoney beech. Thankfully we were not asked to move. The scenery is stunning and im not sure we would have stayed the week had we not stolen such a great spot. The only let down and my reason for such a low star rating is the shower and toilet block. Its vile, I felt dirtier come g out than when I went in. I'm so glad I didn't have children with me. Serious investment needs to be made to modernise them. The light fittings are full of dead flies, the drains designed to take away the shower water are rusty and full of a dark grey sludge. The ceilings are mouldy and the shower curtains full of stains. The water pressure is awful, you have to keep pushing the tap for more water every 10 to 15 secs which becomes annoying when your trying to wash your hair. There is a spot in the women's toilet block to plug in a hair dryer but it's not big enough and you'd only get one person in at a time. Its such a pity because this is such a beautiful spot. Revamp the showers and allow tents along the shore and we will be back, until then I wouldn't be recommending this site.

Nestled in the charming town of Ullapool, Oak & Grain is a must-visit for pizza enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable dining experience. This delightful establishment specializes in wood-fired pizzas that embody the essence of Napoli-style cuisine, featuring a thick and airy crust paired with a rich tomato base that showcases their dedication to flavor. Incredible proper Neapolitan pizza gaff, probably the most northerly in the UK, almost unbelievable it is here! This is the real deal, beautiful dough and delicious toppings. Both eat in or takeaway. This is not ache and groan - this is Oak and Grain! Cheers 🍽️

If you're anywhere near Ullapool and craving a truly exceptional pizza experience, look no further than Oak and Grain. This wood oven baked pizza company is an absolute gem – combining artisan craftsmanship with warm Highland hospitality. From the moment you arrive, the staff welcome you like an old friend. The service is genuinely outstanding – friendly, attentive, and consistently going above and beyond to ensure you feel looked after. Whether it's a thoughtful recommendation or just a cheerful chat while your pizza bakes, they bring a personal touch that makes the whole experience memorable. And the pizza? Next level. Baked to perfection in a traditional wood-fired oven, each one comes with that irresistible, slightly smoky crust and fresh, flavourful toppings that show real attention to quality and detail. Whether you're a classic Margherita lover or more adventurous with your choices, you’ll find something that hits the spot. Oak and Grain isn’t just about great food – it’s about community, heart, and the kind of care that turns a meal into something more. Don’t miss it if you’re in town – it’s easily one of Ullapool’s finest.

OK this deserves is reputation. The place was welcoming and offers inside and outside seating. We had lovely service from Casey and didn't have to wait long for a table. Turn over of pretty fast but we didn't feel rushed. If you love fluffy soft pizza, this is the place for you. Three of us thought they were delicious. Bianca, the Pizza-holic, likes crispy thin bases, she was not enamoured. Highly recommended in Ullapool.

I was looking for some local eats in Ullapool but everyone told me to go to Oak and Grain for pizza of all things. I followed the recommendations and made a visit and did not regret it. Amazing oven baked pizzas of the highest quality. Fresh Italian ingredients. Delicious. The service was very helpful and on point. The space is simple. Well lit and clean. 5 x 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕

Great food, excellent value for money and really good service. My pizza had ripped slightly in the oven, so my partners pizza came first. They explained and not long after they came with my new pizza, gave me the slightly ripped one on the house (in a box already) and apologised again. Great experience here, can definitely recommend!

We were looking for place for lunch and decided to try this highly rated pizzeria. Glad we did as the restaurant serves an excellent pizza. We were lucky too as Saturday is the only day they open at noon. Pizza dough was flavourful, fluffy and chewy. Beer and wine are available.

Pizza is excellent - it's so tasty and fresh. The service is great, even on a Saturday at 6:30 it only took them 15 minutes to prepare my order. Best place to eat in Ullapool.

An absolute win! Wandered in to see the menu and was super keen to try the haggis pizza on special. The staff were all lovely and the pizza came super quick. Without a doubt, the best pizza I've ever had in my life! Incredible flavours (the butternut and haggis combo!!!), loads of toppings, incredibly creamy, and the base was cooked perfectly! Beverage options were plentiful and some of the best prices I've seen, 11/10!

Pottery store
Highland Stoneware Ullapool is a charming pottery studio where you can watch talented artisans create beautiful stoneware. The items are unique and durable, making them worth the price. Visitors appreciate the craftsmanship and often find themselves purchasing favorite pieces. While some may find the products a bit pricey, many agree that the quality justifies the cost. The studio also offers discounted items, making it well worth a visit for those passing through.
We finally made the trip to Ullapool to visit the Highland Stoneware factory and shop. At first it was a little underwhelming when viewed from outside but on entry the reason for the visit was laid out in front of us. Shelves contained numerous items of many of the beautiful paterns they manufacture and pottery production and painting of individual articles was taking place. The staff we engaged were very pleasant, polite and helpful and once selected they wrapped our purchases with care. Plenty of parking outside and easy signs directed us the the premises. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend a visit if in the area.

Highland stoneware has been creating beautiful and useful pieces for decades! I bought dishes about fifteen years ago and they're still going strong. Their patterns are gorgeous! Stopped in on this latest trip to pick out a few more pieces to add to the collection! Lovely staff... you can watch them create and meet the artists who made your items!
Pam — Google review
This is a beautiful place and the staff are wonderful and it is great seeing them completing pieces in front of you. I scored it 4 stars purely based on the price of items as I feel they are very over priced even though I appreciate the effort that goes into make the pottery pieces.

Im a great fan of their products and wasn’t going to miss a chance to look round here. Earlier I was in their place in Lochinver. Ullapool has a bigger selection of products than Lochinver. That said it was still worth visiting both places. And yes I bought from both places. No beer this month!

The world needs more people like Allan. I travelled up to Ullapool from Brighton and my derailleur snapped in two and I thought my trip was over before it started. I popped in to the shop the following day expecting bad news. I couldn't have been greeted by a better guy. He was so helpful and positive, I haven't really experienced this much in bike shops over the years. He got the bike in the stand right away and within a couple of hours I was back on the road. Simply Spectacular. We stayed three nights and loved every minute. The views are among the best we have experienced from a “Hotel Room” Clean, comfortable and everything you would ever need. We liked the powerful hot shower. This was our first hot tub experience and we were unsure whether it would be for us us, but sitting admiring the views was amazing. If I had to find something negative to say then a little more shelf space would have been helpful. We would highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

We spent three unforgettable nights at the Highland Bothies, and it was nothing short of magical. The view from our bothy was absolutely breathtaking—waking up to that stunning panorama each morning was a dream. It’s the kind of scenery that makes you forget the outside world exists. While we never got lucky enough to snag any fresh eggs during our stay, it was a small price to pay for the peace and serenity the place offers. And besides, it just gave us more time to soak in that incredible view. The highlight of our stay? Getting engaged at this little slice of heaven! To celebrate, we had a bottle of prosecco delivered right to our door, making the moment even more special. The thoughtful touch added to what was already a perfect experience. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway with unmatched views and cozy comfort, the Highland Bothies is the place to be. We’ll cherish our time here forever.

Could not have been a more pleasant experience! After striking out at a couple of shops today, my husband and I stepped in and found exactly what we were hoping for, but is so rare to find in tourist spaces. High quality, local, tasteful, and not at all tacky items that are very reasonably priced for the quality you get! I'm already using my new 100% wool blanket and it is SO warm. Dramatic views within a mile-long canyon with waterfalls & a Victorian suspension bridge.
Super little walk with an excellent car park and facilities as you would expect from National Trust. Cafe, toilets, picnic benches, electric car charging and gift shop. £5 for parking if you are not a member. Easy walking with information en route including QR codes for audio. A bridge and a viewing platform that you need a head for heights for. Dogs allowed.

Absolutely incredible. The best waterfalls iv seen on the NC500, and we’ve seen a few Would recommend to anyone interested in seeing the waterfalls. We parked in the overflow car park, £10 for camper vans which may seem expensive to some but it was money well spent. We entered the route to the left which was an easy trek down to the bridge. Over the bridge then turned right off the beaten track which is only for the more daring as sheer drop a few feet from track. Can be scary. Would also recommend proper footwear AN ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE.

A beautiful spot with about 1 hour of walking trails. These photographs paths are well marked out and easy to follow. A little muddy in places after rain and some steep areas. Anyone with a reasonable level of mobility should be able to get around the whole reserve. The gorge is breathtaking and you really need to be on the bridge and the far side view point to fully appreciate it. The £5 parking fee was well worth it (£10 if you are in a camper or motorhome)
Catherine M — Google review
So far one of the best stops on our trip. The gouge is …. Gorgeous. The bridge over it makes the view really come out of nowhere and add to the experience. To me this is a do not miss spot! The extra short loop for the fern trail was also well worth it as we saw lots of different ferns and mushrooms. The rain forest is very beautiful and the whole ecology stands out as very unique. The visitor center sells ice cream which is a great treat after the short hike. There is an overflow parking lot down the road and several turn off parking spots. Parking in the lot cost 5 pounds.

Great natural gorgeous, beautiful waterfalls, great walk. The 150 yearvold suspension bridge across the gorgeous is not for those with a fear of heights! It's deep.. The viewing platform is also very high. Worth seeing once in your life. Could be doing with more parking. Can't comment on the cafe as we didn't use it. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Weather was great, had a great few hours there.

Spectacular Car park still very busy in late September. Cost of parking for a motorhome was £10 quite shocking but after the visit I thought it worked out at £5 each which was great value for the views. Well worth a visit. On site cafe and loos as well.
Paul F — Google review
If you are into water falls and a deep viaduct then this is a great spot to visit. The walk is easy and not to far, if you are afraid of highs then the bridge might be a bit challenging. There is a nice Cafe and toilets facilities at the parking spot. But it is not free to park.

Lovely walk, somewhat challenging if youre not used to the hills, overall very enjoyable, the Globe is a 15 min walk so if youre travelling with someone less mobile then its ideal as you still get amazing views all over. Very informative and I would say one where you can take children (with supervision)

Well worth a visit if you are in the area, of course I had to walk the the whole thing. it was amazing great views and very interesting information and over in the distance is Stack Pollaidh whitch I hiked the next day.

This is a lovely walk with stunning views, not for everyone can be a little steep and quite slippery, good footwear needed. If you want to stay overnight in a campervan there is now a £10 charge. Toilets open all night but no longer any drinking water available (shame). Still one of my favourite park ups on the Nc500
Stephen M — Google review
So much info about the geology of Scotland and all clearly presented on colourful boards with graphics that are easy to understand. Wonderful walk up to the top of the crag, well signposted and good clear path. Really enjoyed it. Also toilets and parking.
Sarah F — Google review
Did the trail on a wet day — the path was a bit slippery in places and there are some steep stairs to tackle, but the effort was well worth it. The views over the loch were absolutely spectacular. On the return leg, we were lucky enough to spot a red stag — a real highlight and a perfect way to end the walk. A beautiful trail overall, but best done with good footwear and care on wet days.

A very interesting spot if your in anyway interested in the rocks under your feet , if geology is not your thing the views from on top of the crag are spectacular , the crag trail is well laid out with lots of info panels and its a great way to spend a couple of hours .

Wear your walking boots as very uneven in places, also wear plenty of insect repellent as when we went on a sunny very warm day in July you will get eaten by horseflys. No signs to point you in the right direction but the path is fairly clear. Once you climb to the top which is not an easy climb, it gives stunning views on a clear day.

Did this Hike on my own on a sunny morning and was so amazed by the views and scenery! Theres a small free car park at the start. The walk in total took me about 1hour 45mins to get there and back. The first section on the walk follows a lovely stream with waterfalls, it then takes you through the valley with the mountains either side of you before you start going uphill to the caves. The cafes are so beautiful and interesting! Spent some time there admiring the views before heading back. The hike does get rocky in places but I wouldn't say its hard. And the uphill section is quite short so doesn't get to strenuous.
Poppy G — Google review
Great walk highly recommended done it a few times before and keep coming back. Saw loads of red deer since were in the middle of the rutting season. Always fascinating seeing the fresh water springs bubbling up through the ground and off the paths are sink holes best not to venture near them. Thankfully the rain held off all day.
Graeme L — Google review
Beautiful little hike. There are Expect it to take 2-3 hours depending on your pace. There are two routes up/down, the first you come too is far more challenging, if you want something a little easier continue on the main path and it naturally loops around and up
Paul H — Google review
Great hike with beautiful nature and your dog can walk off leash. There's only water from a stream for the first mile. The climb up to the caves is pretty steep but you can take a roundtrip via a path that's not so steep.
Alice V — Google review
A must visit. Unique place. The walk isn't bad at all. A little steep. If you need the easier walk follow the path that brings you around not the direct one across the river.
Colin C — Google review
My days of squeezing through narrow underground openings are behind me so opted not to explore farther than the mouth of the caves, it's roughly a 7K round trip from the free car park, the walk is fairly straightforward and easy although care should be taken at higher elevation as a slip or stumble could be quite costly, that being said I enjoyed this part of the walk most giving almost alpine vibes, the natural spring on the way up is nice and surprising to see the amount of water that comes from seemingly nowhere.
Gary G — Google review
Nice long hike Good footwear needed as it’s over lots of rocks but if you follow the trail to the right you get to see inside the caves…. Not great for people with a fear of heights 😂

Mountains
Stac Pollaidh is a craggy mountain located in the Highlands with sandstone pinnacles and a height of 2,008 ft. It's a popular destination for climbers due to its manageable ascent time of less than 3 hours and picturesque views. The hike up to the ridge is not very challenging, but there are steep sections that require effort. At the summit, there are numerous rock formations and spires offering stunning views of surrounding mountains and lochs.
An amazing hike with stunning views that you will have at the summit. The hike is steep but not very hard to do for experienced hikers. Definitely a recommendation
Micha H — Google review
The hike itself is a rather steep climb. It takes about 2 hours of climbing at a slow pace to reach the mountain and about 1 hour from the mountain back to the carpark . The views are fantastic at the top. Be sure to bring a good camera.
Pieter V — Google review
It was an easy/moderate grade round trip hike up to a point then it became rather difficult once you close to the top. Breathtaking views!
Albert H — Google review
We climbed it in May with a calm high pressure weather to ease the way. Car park fillls up so get there early - or late as we did cos it was cooler. Good move as we had the path to ourselves. Lots of easy/moderate (grade2) scrambling involved to shimmy around the towers closer to the tip. Need to take care in some places as although the moves are easy, the consequence of a fall is very serious. The last tricky crux to reach the actual westerly summit requires climbing skill with a rope and protection.
Lucy B — Google review
Super little hill about two hours circular walk from car park. Car park is rather expensive at £6. I biked it there.
Lorraine K — Google review
One of the most iconic of Scottish hills takes a few hours of reasonably steep walking from the new carpark up a well built path to the back of the crag where the views north towards Suilven really open up , a quick climb onto the saddle gives you the views across Loch Lurgainn , I wouldnt recommend trying to get to the real top as it is a very precarious scramble over sheer drops. Fantastic wee hill with jaw dropping views in every direction
Tork M — Google review
WINTER REVIEW - Took 3 hrs 10 mins all together (up East side and down west side with snowy conditions) - Absolutely beautiful views all the way - Would recommend a climb up the East side and then a return on the East side too - Please be prepared during the winter for the snow drifts which block the paths and make the routes MUCH more dangerous. - There are high slipping hazards as you reach the top, had a few near misses so please be careful - West side descent has a literal river running down the path, super muddy and difficult to traverse, spending more time looking at where my feet are rather than the views. - Take it slow, steady and hold on to things for support - Would not recommend for Young children or elderly if you can see snow at the top. - Finally, weather can change rapidly so bring proper gear ! Enjoy the views and take great pictures !

Waterfalls
Stunning water fall walk that is easily accessible. The place is maintained by National trust Scotland . It starts from the car park and the visitor centre and the walk to the man falls is about 15 mins but there are three more lovely falls on the way. The main falls can be seen from a suspension bridge and the views are amazing. You can also walk further to another view point from there to get a good view of the falls and the gorge. There is a restaurant at the car park but it closes by 4 pm ( a bit too early considering there are many visitors all day).
Srikanth B — Google review
This was a nice walk. Main car park has toilets and a cute cafe though it's £5 to park your car. There's quite a few waterfalls on the way to the main falls with the view from the bridge being brilliant, though maybe give a miss if scared of heights. Definately worth a quick stop to view.
Laura B — Google review
Stopped here on our NC 500 road trip. This waterfall is spectacular and well worth the stop. There us a short 5 minute walk to get to the first bridge which is above the waterfall and the drop below must be 200 foot at least. Then there is a 5 to 7 minute walk to a viewing platform. There are also paths leading in both directions for a forest walk along the gorge or to the visitors centre. Plenty of parking at the top just off the main road thats £5 for the entire day.
Solitaire — Google review
The effort that has been put in creating a path down that is as accessible as it could possibly be, given the terrain, is amazing! My husband is paraplegic and a full time wheelchair user and getting to waterfalls is normally impossible for him but we used his powered attachment to his wheelchair and went down the path to the suspension bridge from the overflow car park. It's not the easiest, but definitely doable, and so worth the effort.
Kara M — Google review
The Falls of Measach (Gaelic: Easan na Miasaich) are a waterfall about 45-46 metres high, on the River Droma. They are located in Corrieshalloch Gorge, which is a dramatic gorge in Ross-shire (Wester Ross), in the Scottish Highlands. The gorge lies close to the junction of the A835 and A832 roads near Braemore. It’s about 13-20 km (8-12 miles) south of Ullapool. What you’ll see / Experience You approach via a short walk from a car park. There’s a path that leads to a Victorian suspension footbridge over the gorge, which gives a view of the falls from above. There is also a viewing platform projecting out over (or into) the gorge wall, giving a different perspective of the falls and gorge depths. The gorge itself is quite narrow (about 10 m at the lip) and very deep (around 60 m) in places; steep walls. The area is managed as a National Nature Reserve by the National Trust for Scotland. Access & Practical Info Car parking: There is a car park near Braemore, off the A835 / A832 junction. From there it's a fairly short walk to the bridge and platform. Walk: The path is maintained, not extremely difficult, although there are some steep/drops near the gorge edges, so caution needed. The walk from the car park to the viewpoints is quite short (maybe ~10-15 mins) depending on fitness. Facilities: As of recent improvements, there are visitor facilities: a shop, toilets, a ranger / visitor building etc. Cost: There is charge for access / car park or path entry. *£5-£10 Things to Know / Tips The suspension bridge can sway, and the heights are significant; people with fear of heights or who are unsteady should be cautious. Weather matters: when wet, the paths may be slippery. Also mist from the falls can make views dramatic (or reduce visibility). Good footwear is advised. Time of day: early in the day or off-peak may be better to avoid crowds. The site is popular, especially with people doing the NC500 route.
Tania W — Google review
Very pleasant walks from either the main car park and cafe, or the overflow car park. The bridge over the gorge is worth looking down the 45 mtrs ! Gets very busy at times and the parking fees aren't really clear. The modern parking meters do not accept National Trust cards and appear to only accept motorhomes or large vans at £10? Well worth an hour stop off for a break and stretch of legs. Dog friendly.
Anon M — Google review
A must see in my opinion. The walk over the gorge is amazing, no photo does it justice. Depending on where you park will determine the length of walk. If you just want to see the falls and move on, park in the overflow carpark. If you want to meander through the woods and have more of a walk, park in the visitor centre.
Lee A — Google review
A beautiful waterfall. A beautiful view from a 150 years old hanging bridge. It’s little bit scary but you can enjoy the waterfall. The parking was closed but you can park little ahead and walk down to the walkway there is a deer gate , it is closed always but you can open. Also there is a viewing platform after crossing the bridge.

A fantastic hike to the top of Ullapool Hill. Ascent climb has a stoney path and lush vegetation which changes to low vegetation (heather, grass, some bracken ) and exposed rock faces. There are two inclines before you arrive at the top. The view is beautiful and I encourage you to leave a stone on the cairn as a memento.
Miriam F — Google review
Excellent small but energetic walk from the centre of Ullapool that gives large scenic views, the top is the small hill of Meall Mhor which overlooks Ullapool and has views up and down Loch Broom and out to the Summer Isles and the large mtns in the area , there is an indicater boardc halfway up that points out the tops and islands that can be seen on a clear day. It should take 2 -3 hours if your reasonably fit , paths are ok, typical hill paths so decent footwear is required
Tork M — Google review
Amazing views all the way up! Start a bit hard to find but if you Google Broom Park (a road), you will see the path sign with the little gate just right of an electric pylon. I am not a hiker and did it under 2 hours with lots of stops at all the benches up. A gradual rise, not steep. When you get to the silver ground map, that's the halfway mark - keep climbing. Sat at the bench at the top to watch the sunset. A must do!

This is almost a hidden gem as its very easy to miss driving to Ullapool and once there be aware of the archway into the parking area which will deter a lot of wide loads, theres a donation box in the carpark and then through a green door into a magical planted wood of dozens of species of trees from all over the world , a small path takes you down to the Loch where wonderful views up and down the loch can be had , definitely recommended for an hour long stroll in beautiful surroundings

A fantastic and cheap little stop off for a quick 30 minute meander around with the dog. Very very tight to get into the parking area but fine if you are careful. Be sure to leave a donation, it's what keeps these places alive. It was very quiet when we went but that was perfect for us. A lovely selection of trees and plants from all across the world.

A real gem of a garden/arboretum hidden away on the shores of Loch Broom. Worth finagling your way through the gate and into the car park to take in the trees and shrubs of the garden. A quick walk through a gate partway round takes you down to the shores of the loch too. Some beautiful specimens of trees, the Giant Redwood being a favourite, but lots and lots of other really interesting firs and pines to be seen. Really is worth a visit.
Stephanie W — Google review
Very obscure entrance and probably not suitable for anything bigger than a car but the gardens are amazing. I was there with my 14yr old son who was as amazed as I at some of the trees and plants. Really happy I stumbled upon this gallery, conveniently on the main road to Rhue Lighthouse. James' work is well-suited for the Highlands—especially in person, the layers and textures stand out like topological features. The new series on the Hebrides in the summer is stunning. Pictures of his works can't do them justice. I had a nice chat with James about his art and work process, even though it was clear I wouldn't be able to buy any of his original art. He has very good insight on how he became an artist, how he thinks as he works, and what drives him to paint. I'll definitely take some of his advice on doing and balancing what he loves to heart. Before I left, I bought a card; James also sells prints. I would highly recommend stopping by for a look and chat; this was my favorite spontaneous stop I made during my trip.

Great little spot for local artist Jake's Hawkins' work. James is very interesting and talented. Very cool carbon-fiber artwork! He also has giclee prints available, and he kindly wrapped and boxed the ones we purchased for transport in our suitcase. If there's no one in the gallery, ring the bell and he will come!

Wow, what a hidden gem - it really is well worth making the effort to visit. To be able to wander in when James is creating these wonderful works of art is a real treat. He gave me and my kids a wonderful tour and talked about the art all around the place. We can not thank James enough for being such a great host and for the fabulous works of art. John Martin, Friedrich and a little 60's psychedelia all mixed in. We really loved it. Lee & Kids
Lee T — Google review
Cracking art in a brilliant gallery space. When I visited, the artist who owns the gallery (James Hawkins) had an exhibition of his own, stunning works, several of which were proper large scale that would full the living room wall of a large house. James was friendly and forgave me that his style was not mine, but I can easily see that they would make a centerpiece to anyone's collection. The gallery space is lovely - light and shows the work well. Of the many galleries I have visited in the last few days, many could learn from showing their works in a more flattering light!

A wee walk to the end of the Shore rd takes you to the breakwater on Loch Broom and outstanding views up and down the loch , a great place to take in the views as the sun sets on the colourful boats in the harbour and the mountains hemming in the village

Not only is Ullapool one of the biggest towns around, it is also quite charming. The seafront is nice, with green hills and mountains on the other side of Loch Broom. Together with the boats and sailboats it paints a nice picture. The area around the ferry terminal is less charming. But if you follow the seafront to the west, then you'll end up at a quiet nice seafront beach. It's a stoney beach, but nice for some views and a little walk. It's also dog-friendly. Our Bulldog enjoyed her freedom here. And there were only a handful visitors on this section. It's a nice and quiet place. Even in high season pretty relaxed. And walking along the seafront is a pleasant thing to do. A very picturesque place to see.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful Ullapool – A Perfect Highland Harbour Town Ullapool is an absolutely charming and picturesque Highland village, and it quickly became one of our favourite places in Scotland. Nestled on the shores of Loch Broom, this small but vibrant coastal town offers the perfect mix of natural beauty, friendly people, and everything you could need for a relaxing stay or a scenic stop on the North Coast 500. The setting is stunning — surrounded by dramatic mountains, calm loch waters, and ever-changing skies. Whether you’re arriving by road or ferry, the first view of Ullapool is unforgettable. The harbour area is especially lovely, with fishing boats, CalMac ferries, and local wildlife creating a constantly moving backdrop. On a clear day, the reflections across the loch are breathtaking. Ullapool has a wonderful community feel, with plenty of local shops, cafés, galleries, and restaurants to explore. There’s a great choice of places to eat, from traditional fish and chips by the harbour to fresh seafood, locally roasted coffee, and welcoming pubs serving hearty Highland meals. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and proud of their town — it’s easy to see why. We were particularly impressed by the local art scene, including independent galleries and craft shops featuring talented Scottish artists and makers. There’s also a strong cultural spirit here — live music, festivals, and creative events are a big part of Ullapool’s character. The balance between tourism and authentic local life feels just right. As a gateway to the Outer Hebrides, Ullapool is perfectly positioned for those travelling to or from Stornoway on the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry. The port facilities are well organised, parking is straightforward, and the staff are always welcoming. Even if you’re not catching the ferry, the harbour is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. There are also some beautiful walking routes nearby, with trails that suit every level of ability — from a gentle stroll along the shore to hikes up into the surrounding hills for panoramic views. Nature lovers will be in their element here, with chances to spot seabirds, seals, and sometimes even dolphins out in the loch. Ullapool manages to be both peaceful and full of life — a rare combination. It has the friendliness of a small village but the amenities of a much larger town. Whether you’re here for a night or a few days, it’s a place that stays with you. We absolutely loved our time in Ullapool and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone exploring the Scottish Highlands or heading to the Outer Hebrides. Beautiful scenery, great food, welcoming people, and an atmosphere that captures the very best of Scotland. A true five-star destination.

A lot of work taking place at the docks at the moment but still a very interesting place to walk around and look at the boats that come and go. Scenery is outstanding, whether it's the hills across the loch, the hills behind the town or looking out towards the Summer Isles. Very interesting local museum if the weather is unfavourable and one or two nice little shops to browse or have a coffee.

Beach
Ardmair Beach is a picturesque pebble beach located on the shores of Loch Kanaird, just a short drive from Ullapool in Wester Ross. This tiny fishing village has transformed into a popular holiday destination, offering boat rentals during the summer and various self-catering accommodations including chalets, homes, and camping facilities. The beach provides breathtaking views of the Summer Isles, Isle Martin, and Ben Mor Coigach.
Just mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the place. Crystal clear water, lovely pebble beach with such peaceful surroundings, clearly makes it one of the best places around Ullapool to spend your weekends... Sheer Bliss Man !!!

We had never heard of this place before. Achmelvich and Clachtoll take all the fame. This is a brilliant little beach just north of Ullapool

One of the most beautiful and clean stoney beach. Have been on there in spring time so no rush on the beach . Dog friendly.

This may very well be our favourite beach in the entire world, we've never seen anything else like it! We spent quite a while here skipping the smooth pebbles. And when it was time to leave, our daughter started crying and said, "I never want to leave here!". (Just so you know, that's a really rare thing!) We visited on our way from Ullapool to Knockan Crag on a day trip from Inverness. Knockan Crag is worth visiting, too.

Within this picturesque setting, visitors can find everything they need, including fuel for their vehicles and shopping opportunities at Tesco. One of the notable sights in Ullapool is the beautiful historic clock located in its center. This well-crafted timepiece serves as a captivating landmark and focal point for locals and tourists alike.
So nice to find details like this in small villages, especially up in the Scottish Highlands

The clock is easily seen in the village centre as it is on the busy intersection of Argyle and Quay streets ,Erected in 1899 to the memory of Sir John Fowler of Braemore and his family, it originally stood in the middle of the road between the Caledonian Hotel and the corner of Quay Street and Argyle Street. Each of its four pedimented faces’ tympana is decorated with a crown and on top there is an urn whose leafy finial carries a weathervane.
