Restaurant
Toro Negro Steakhouse is a restaurant located in a century-old Spanish Colonial House in Liberia, offering an array of meat and seafood options. The attentive staff provides exceptional service, while the menu boasts delicious dishes such as Grilled Portobello Mushrooms and Surf & Turf. Guests praise the efficient and friendly staff, generous portions, and flavorful meats like flank, skirt, churrasco, and rib eye steak.
Really nice place overall, efficient and friendly staff, great food, huge portions.Really. All 4 of us ordered and when we saw baby back ribs we were like - that's it, enough for all of us. The ribs were tender with slightly sour sauce. Burger was huge and delicious (I usually order medium rare, but they suggested it should be at least medium so it would not fall apart). Rib eye steak was melting away and super flavorful. The only drawback was cocktails - too sweet. Especially 'Pura Vida'. Mine Daiquiri with mango was quite good though, since it was real mango and no sugar added. Wish they had more beer choices (besides usual Imperial and such ;) ). I'd definitely come there again.

Travel Back in Time! Located in the heart of Liberia, in one of the few remaining century old Spanish Colonial Houses in the area, this restaurant takes you back in time. The service was beyond amazing! The attention to detail by the staff was something that is rarely found nowadays in restaurants in Liberia. Now for the food. I stared with the Grilled Portobello Mushrooms. Without a doubt the best I ever had! Next came the Surf & Turf (Loin & Shrimp) Everything about it was perfect! I ordered a Sangria to help me enjoy this delicious meal! Prices are reasonable, the decor and ambience are beautiful and the staff was just amazing! Highly recommended!
Paul P — Google review
This place was great! The meats were amazing and the service too. We each had the flank, skirt, and churrasco and they were all cooked to perfection. The price was great too:)
Carol P — Google review
Nice restaurant with friendly staffs. Food is great and they open on Christmas !!
CAI L — Google review
The rib eye was good value for the price, which was slightly over $20usd. The reason I came back the next day was for the limonada with basil, it was amazing!
Matt M — Google review
Excellent churrasco and delicious shrimp. The dips of the chips are awesome and a very friendly service.
Marc S — Google review
Great food and value. Service is OK but takes a while to get your food... And when you're starving is can feel like an eternity
Jose O — Google review
We had a big group, service was prompt and the people were so nice. The kids thought the burger was the best they've ever had and we live next to an in and out back home so you know this is a seriously great burger! I had the ribs and they were just perfection. The margarita was just refreshing. I cant believe we fed a table of 7 for only $60 with 3 alcohol drinks!!!!

Restaurant
Restaurant El Callejero is a contemporary Asian dining spot with elegant decor and a cozy atmosphere. It offers carefully crafted international dishes made with high-quality ingredients. With two locations in Kuwait City, it brings Persian culture to life through classical settings and culinary traditions. The restaurant serves a variety of Persian cuisine, including cold and hot mezzes, salads, and savory vegetable stews.
This is the second time we have been to this spot and both times it has been excellent. The restaurant gives food truck vibes with a full menu and a great beer selection. Everything is very clean (including the restrooms). If you are in Liberia and looking for a great meal you can’t go wrong here!

Our recent trip to Guanacaste was filled with mouthwatering food and fantastic service. Everyone was thrilled with their dishes, and we highly recommend the chifrijo and the signature burger. Just be careful with the tea drink - it’s a bit sweet, but it’s worth it! Everything else was absolutely perfect - 10/10!
Francisco A — Google review
The food was absolutely amazing. Went with my fiancé and parents when visiting from the USA. The meat was melting off the bone and everything including the side dishes tasted outstanding. Our mock tails were extremely good. I recommend the ribs and potatoes with an apple mock tail 😋
M T — Google review
Better than it looks!! The location is not so good, but once you are inside it is more pleasant. I ordered ribeye medium rare with sweet potato fries as a side. The steak wasn’t the best I’ve tried, but it was better than I expected. The fries were good and thick. My friend ordered a Chilean cake, it wasn’t good. If you want to eat enough, go, because they serve a lot of food. Likewise, there is a lot of variety.
Juan G — Google review
The location isn’t the most convenient, but the food makes up for it. Portions are generous, and my sandwich was really good and satisfying. Service was a bit slow, but overall it was a solid dining experience and worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Amazing restaurant! Delicious food with attentive service. They started as a food truck but now have a brand new restaurant building with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was phenomenal! Generous portions, very flavorful, crispy fries, out of this world burger, great options for kids, and wonderful fruit drinks.
Natalia K — Google review
OMG the chicharron is spectacular. It had a really good smoke ring with a phenomenal smoky flavor. The chimichurri on top was just right. Ordered the grilled veggies but was told they do not offer them anymore. Steamed veggies it is but they were fresh and the seasoning was good. We dug right in and didn't even stop to get a photo but trust it is delicious.
Ben Q — Google review
Fantastic restaurant with great service. My husband and I came for dinner this evening and we were looked after by Adrianna, she was wonderful, really attentive, sweet and helpful and made the whole experience so amazing! The menu is fantastic, we struggled to choose as everything sounded so good . I had the wings and my husband had the ribeye- portions were really generous and the food was excellent- delicious, piping hot and presented in the most fabulous way! Definitely recommend and a thank you to Adrianna for being so lovely!

The Ermita de La Agonía is a stunning and historically rich chapel located in Liberia, that is still used for services and weddings to this day. The beautiful architecture of the church is definitely worth exploring, even though it may be difficult to gain access to the interior without a Padre present. Visitors can learn about the chapel's fascinating history and appreciate its significance as one of the few notable attractions in Liberia.
Beautiful old chapel. Lots of history pack into a small chapel that is still used for service til this day. They also still do weddings. If your in Liberia check this place out.

Specialty Museums
The Museo de Guanacaste, located in Liberia, Costa Rica, is a cultural and historical treasure. Housed in the historic Plaza de Liberia Command building, it was established in 1990 and officially opened in 2006. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the archaeological wonders of La Gran Nicoya and serves as a center for conservation, research, exhibition, and education.
This was a very unique experience. The man there was very informative, even though he knew very little English. The history he was able to tell us was amazing and how it had been a prison. Walking through and seeing the artifacts were exceptional and they’ve been cared for so well. The prison block cells were very creepy, but cool in their own right.
Kathleen H — Google review
Still not a museum in any real sense of the word. It could be really great, but it still just seems to be an abandoned building used for community groups. With a bit of imagination there is a certain interest-value in the building itself, but nothing to make it a destination. It is such a shame that a project to make a museum seems to have stalled - there is not really any information about this being the ultimate goal, if indeed it still is, and therefore it is quite odd that it is still marked as a museum. It would be nice just to start by clearing the courtyard and verandas to create somewhere to sit and perhaps get drinks or snacks.
James C — Google review
Free entry. The building was a prison and one can walk through the former prison cells below ground. The exhibit was about the sabaneros-- small but detailed.
Jett P — Google review
We tried twice to visit it today and the gates were closed. We check all around the building for another entrance just to make sure we didn't miss it. We came to Liberia to visit the Museum and another place. Maybe you should update the opening hours on Google so people don't travel to the city for nothing?
Emilie T — Google review
If you come here expecting a museum, you'll be disappointed. But if you come expecting to get to wander round an historic building, with fascinating remnants of its life as a former prison, after being a garisson, you'll have a great time. There was no entry fee to get in, it was a donation box. Liberia is not such a touristy place, so it was nice to have somewhere to go and get a chance to interact with the locals and brush up on our pigeon Spanish. It now supports local art and artists. Some potters had a display on when we were in and the stuff was incredible, as well as them being warm and friendly. They actually helped another family and then us understand the building. If it wasn't so early in our trip, we'd have bought something to take home.
John — Google review
not a museum, it’s an empty historical building. There are no exhibits. The ornamental concrete tile floors are the only thing visually engaging here
L N — Google review
This is a gorgeous little spot. Free entrance. Definitely suggest leaving a donation though. They deserve it. Amazing local artist showcase. And the staff is ridiculously friendly and helpful. Go. Go see it. Now. Hahahaha. Seriously though. Totally worth stopping in.
Mark N — Google review
At time of visit only two free art exhibits. One of wood sculptures and the other a mix of art celebrating Costa Rica bicentenary. Worth a look-see if you have time to spare in Liberia.

Shopping
If you're exploring Liberia, make sure to check out Plaza Comercial Liberia IPB. While it may not be a traditional mall with an abundance of shops just yet, this newly opened venue offers a unique experience for families. With three levels and an indoor playground on the lower level, it's an ideal spot for kids to burn off some energy while parents take a breather from resort activities.
As others have mentioned, calling this place a mall is a bit of stretch, as there are very few shops. That being said, my kids (aged 5 and 7) had a great time at the indoor playground. It was the perfect break from our resort and a great stopping point while exploring the area.
Ron C — Google review
Kids area & a few shops. Pretty empty
SJ N — Google review
Not really that much of a mall a few stores and then class rooms. Not a spot to stop when visiting the county not much going on there.
David C — Google review
There is a movie theater, mainly children's movies in Spanish. There were two stores for shopping (open at 10 am). There were two places you could pay to use wifi. The rest of the mall was government offices and one university office. There was one tiny place to buy breakfast or fast food. There is a kid's play area for pay.
Micki B — Google review
not much to do there or shop. if you want to watch a movie then your good.
Diego D — Google review
Not really worth checking out. We had an evening to kill as we were flying out in the morning. We figured why not check out the local mall.. There's only a few stores and none really caught our eye. There's a play area for kids in the bottom.. If I could make a recommendation check out Centro Comercial Plaza Santa Rosa

Zoo
Ponderosa Adventure Park, located in El Salto, Liberia, Guanacaste, is a nature park dedicated to wildlife conservation and environmental preservation. The park offers a unique combination of adventure and natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy the Ponderosa Safari, an educational guided tour where they can encounter African animals such as giraffes, zebras, and ostriches in their natural habitat. Additionally, the park features zip-lines, waterfalls for swimming and kayaking activities.
I went here with a 6 month old baby. It was very baby friendly. We purchased a half day package on the official website for the safari ride, lunch and the waterfall. We loved the safari ride, seeing and feeding the animals! The guide was amazing and very knowledgeable ( I think his name was Manuel), Marc welcomed us back after the safari and guided us to the waterfall. Lunch was also excellent. Everyone was great! I would definitely recommend a visit!
Linh T — Google review
This is mostly a petting zoo. 35 dollars a ticket to see the animals. 10 dollars to “park” but they make you drive from location to location in your own car. $2 for a small pack of carrots and they recommend 2 per person which is a SIGNIFICANT markup from what they are paying for the carrots and is basically just customers supplementing the diet of the animals as the areas that the animals are being held have been so over grazed they have little to no grass growing. I also felt that there was not enough of a shaded area for the animals and the pens they were in are kind of small or overcrowded. Sad life for these animals. We didn’t get anywhere near an ostrich or a camel which I saw photos of from other people. Only one giraffe came anywhere near us. It was mostly just the zebra, some goats and sheep. Everyone who spoke to us was very polite.

We had a group of people that went on a mission trip to Costa Rica and we spent one of our days at this park! It was so much fun! Great place if you are American looking to go somewhere in Costa Rica. They speak English, which makes things easier. And the tour guides are amazing! Shout out to Mark, he did a great job. All of the staff was very helpful and it’s a great trip.

Ponderosa Adventure Park is an absolute must-visit! From start to finish, the experience was incredible. Mark was amazing in guiding us throughout the entire visit — super friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we didn’t miss a thing. Kevin was awesome in explaining all the animals we saw, and the fact that he spoke English as well was a huge bonus for us. His passion for the animals really showed. Rolando was fantastic on the zip lines — he explained everything clearly, made us feel completely safe, and added so much fun to the adventure. The whole team made this an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend!

Embark on the La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike, a thrilling journey through Costa Rica's vibrant jungle. The experience includes a visit to the tranquil Poza los Coyotes, perfect for relaxation with loved ones or some peaceful solo time. The highlight of the adventure is the exhilarating La Leona Waterfall Tubing along the picturesque Rio Colorado. Visitors praise knowledgeable guides who share insights about local flora and fauna while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
This was the highlight of our trip for me! We did the La Leona waterfall hike & Tube combo with lunch. Ronney was our guide for both and he was amazing. You can tell that he loves what he does and has fun with it. He educated us on different plants, trees, rocks, and colorful clay. The water was so beautiful! The rock jumping added to the fun. Then we took a lunch break at the La Leona Restaurant. They served up a traditional Costa Rican lunch, Casado. It was delicious! A Protein, with rice, beans, salad, plantains and a drink. A big plate. The tubing was an experience. Tio joined us for this part of the journey and he was very good as well. It started to rain on us which added to the adventure. They even let us stop and swing into the water. I highly recommend this tour and if you want added fun, ask for Ronney to be your guide! One last thing, he took great pics for us. Didn't even have to ask. We let him lead and he would stop and tell us this is a great spot for a picture. Sure enough, our pictures came out amazing. Thank you so much Ronney! We went during off season so we had no wait.
Charlie A — Google review
Ronny was the best tour guide. He was knowledgeable on all things Costa Rica. All the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I did not buy my tickets in advance and no issues. There were multiple tours at once and all on schedule. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to hike and explore in the jungle. The reward was the beautiful waterfall at the end.
LM — Google review
This was the first time in Costa Rica so we wanted to do something adventurous. We tried El Rincon hiking tour that ended at the La Leona waterfall. That was a cool experience. Really, the water was cool, a little chilly but it was worth the hike. Our tour guide, Ronny, took us through some cool sights and stopped to explain some of the local nature and trees. He was a great guide. Later we had lunch at the onsite, La Leona Restaurant, which was part of the package. To finish it off we did the river rafting and had a blast. We will probably be coming back with the rest of the family. Try them out!
Ricky R — Google review
This is probably one of the hardest tours I've ever done traveling. This tour is not for the weak at all. You must be physically in shape and able to climb, bend, and crawl at times. The entrance to the waterfall you damn near need military training to accomplish it. But thankfully I did. The hike itself one way is 1.3 miles. I would rate it for an intermediate hiker. What made it semi difficult is it rained and the rocks and ground were wet. You definitely need good closed hiking shoes. I do not recommend swim shoes or sneakers. Your sneakers will be soaked due to the waterfall. I went in peak rainy season so the waterfall was at full force. I had the time of my life though! This tour is not for anyone elderly, has mobility or back problems, or poor range of motion. The tour guides were the best I've ever had on a tour. The overall reward (waterfall) made up for the everything!!
K R — Google review
This was an unforgettable adventure! The hike to La Leona was scenic and so beautiful. As a 56-year-old who’s a bit out of shape, I found parts of it challenging—but I DID IT! And the reward at the end? That stunning waterfall made every step worth it. Our guide, Justin, was outstanding. He was incredibly knowledgeable and caring, and he seemed to know everything—trees, flowers, mushrooms, animals—you name it. He took the time to teach us along the way and guided us carefully through every step of the journey. I can’t recommend this experience enough. 5 stars all the way!
Linda R — Google review
Jeremy and Leo were outstanding guides. They really made this experience go from good to superior! They also had a team of guys for the tubing and they were so prepared and executed perfectly. We felt perfectly safe all day. Jeremy gave incredible instructions and even gave great details of why everything needs to be done. They were there to take amazing photos at all the great spots. The hike especially through the water was amazing. For the tubing, I’ve never been through rapids that big and my wife was very nervous. But she said she also felt very safe and she loved it. It was probably our favorite day in Costa Rica!!! This day is a MUST DO!!!!

We had a great time hiking to La Leona waterfall. Our two guides Wilbur and Soal were great. They pointed out lots for us to see, as well stopped so we could take amazing pictures. Highly recommend this adventure, and the guides as well. We will definately come back again. Thanks for an amazing time!!!!!!

Our guide, John, was so amazing! The hike to the water falls was the perfect amount of adventure. The place was easy to find and we didn’t have to wait at all! Highly recommend the private guide over the group tour, he showed us so many awesome things!!

Absolutely amazing. An absolute must if you're even remotely in the area. We booked a waterfall hike + lunch for 65$ pp - best decision we made our trip. Our tour guide was JUAN. Absolute legend. Great energy, patient, attentive, kind, knowledgable, can't say enough good things about our tour. The waterfall, river, and greenery was unbelievable, it doesn't get much better than this. Learned so much about plants, rivers, and animals thanks to Juan. The only con I can muster up is that it wasn't clear to us where to meet the tour guide to drive us to Don Rafa Adverture Tours, I had to ask around in the town. Also, don't try to drive to this place in a 2WD or a small car because you will very likely damage the vehicle. Super steep climb and very uneven, rocky road filled with potholes. As far as the lunch was concerned, upon arrival to the Rafa Adventure Tour area we were asked to pick what food we wanted after the tour, we picked steak. When we got back, our food was freshly made and consisted of rice, steak, beans, carrots, avocado, and coleslaw. The food was very good, basically a restaurant dish which was GREAT after a pretty intense hike with swimming in cold water. All in all a MUST when visiting the area and I can't stress the friendliness and professionalism enough. Thank you Juan and the rest of the staff!

Another place we truly love to visit. The blue/turquoise water is great for cooling of on hot days. Trails along the river provide access to a bunch of different swimming areas.

This was our first stop on our camping trip to Costa Rica and it was absolutely perfect. Large camping spaces available. We decided to stay a bit further away from the main area as the main place tends to be crowded by day tourists over time to time. When staying a bit further away it's very quite and beautiful. There is a river directly next to the campsite with beautiful blue water which is amazing to swim in. There are also clean facilities and a place to eat. We stayed for two nights and did both the walking and the tubing tour and they were both amazing. The tours are very cheap compared to any other place in Costa Rica we visited. Also it's a very friendly atmosphere at the camping site. Not a lot of the staff speak English but they put a lot of effort into trying to communicate with us although our Spanish is really bad. At Night there is a very friendly security guard called Raol who takes great care of you. Would definitely recommend this place!

In this place you can go camping if you want even if you don't have a tent the guy can give you one to use, no electricity at all so bring your stuff that you will need gas kitchen if you want to cook, food, repellant. At night its pretty cold though . Also there's a woman here selling good food. There's a river not too far from the place blue water beautiful. Also there's people that can take you make tour 4 hours walking go and back but its worth it. For my personal experience I really liked it. Also its better to have a high car or a 4×4 road to this place is terrible.

A very good campsite run by an amazing staff and a very nature conscious owner. We were lucky enough to do the tour to the La Leona waterfall with Chollo, Elias and his dogs and it was like a walk with the family through a magic scenery. My favorite spot in Costa Rica in 9 days! A special thanks to Raul that spend his time in a late dinner explaining the history around this magical place, at the end, good experiences are mostly about the people!

My wife found this while browsing the area and looking for a small tour that would be run by a local guide. Her dad has lived here in Costa Rica all her life so when we come back to visit he tries to show me a some of the local cultures. With that being said this was by far the best experience I could have had. There are many other businesses in this area that have tours to the same place, but those are all either American or German owned. Those are run by people who come to profit off what Costa Rica has to offer and return very little back to the locals. Ask anyone native and they will say the same. At Don Rafas, they do have an employee named Michael who speaks very good English. I do not speak Spanish and had no issues communicating with him or anyone else. So if you're an English speaker ask for Michael and they will get someone who you can talk too. They offered us 2 different hikes. The first and longer one goes through bat caves and a few other attractions, but ends up at the La Leona waterfall. This one is a bit more expensive and longer but is for those who want to see more. The second one is the one we did which takes you to La Leona waterfall and is about a 3 hour hike round-trip with spending time at the waterfall. It was not a hard hike at all (moderate to some). Little elevation change and a few watercrossings (with ropes to make it easier) and you'll be at the waterfall in no time. They also offer river tubing, swimming holes, camping, hikes, food, bike trails, and much more. After our hike we got to shower in their bathrooms and then sat down to have a Costa Rican typical lunch. Ill post a picture down below. What this place has: •On site bathrooms with showers, urinals, and stalls. It is a big bathroom that is unisex so there might be males and females in there but the showers are stalls with doors so that's not a problem. •English speaking employees •River tubing •trails and hiking to swimming holes or waterfalls •food •bike trails •a dog named Lucy who guided us the entire time All at a very affordable price. The road there is very up and down but can be done in small cars. We saw many people in cars making the drive with no problem. If you aren't comfortable then call the number below and they will come pick you up. They are very nice people and will do what they can to accommodate you! If you want to call for information we called, 85881563 and talked to Maikel. He was very friendly and accommodating especially with me only speaking English. Check out the pictures below and decide for yourself!

We had Fabrizio as a guide and he was fantastic! He spoke English and Spanish and helped me with a few of my congugations. James brought us on from the main road and Michael was our concierge. From start to finish they told us what to bring, what to expect and we had a fantastic time. We saw many so many things along the way, bats, a termite nest as learned about the local tree. I am not a swimmer but I felt safe and the Fabrizio even tied my water shoes a few times 😂. Showers and a delicious meal at the end was amazing. This is definitely a top tier tour.

Don Rafa's campground itself is really nice, but the workers make it a gem! The campground has toilets ans showers and a river eight next to it, where you can cool down. You can camp on the ground or in one of the wooden plateau. You may have a camp fire, lots of threes for your hammock. Propably need a 4x4 and high clearance as way to the campsite is steep (even if it's dry).

We were lucky enough to spend 4 nights at this welcoming Airbnb. It was very hot outside and the air conditioner in our room was perfect. The pool was clean and refreshing. Tony and Francisco made us feel right at home with homemade breakfasts and coffee. Very convenient location to Liberia, the airport and many of the beaches . We will definitely be back.

Francisco and Tony were amazing hosts. Our room was clean, comfortable and we had everything we needed. The living room was welcoming and pleasant. The breakfasts were skillfully prepared, delicious and substantial. We found the well-kept grounds enjoyable and relaxing with many trees, plants and a pool. Our hosts know the area well and recommended the best sights to visit. We grew very fond of Tony and Francisco during our two-week stay and hope to return soon!

Great place, with friendly owners. Very clean, with good showers and beds. The breakfasts were tasty and filling, including local juices. Between the airport and Liberia. Has a pool and an attached art gallery with great art.

Amazing place and great hosts. Francisco and Tony took great care of us and went out of their way for our daughter. We have purchased one of Francisco’s pieces and it serves as a centerpiece in our home! Definitely 5 stars! Kristen kells

City park
Parque Mario Cañas Ruiz is a charming and atmospheric park, especially in the evening when you can take a leisurely stroll and soak up the wonderful ambiance. The nearby church adds to the charm, often hosting services that enhance the overall experience. It's a great spot for people-watching and indulging in some evening treats. You can also simply relax and take in the surroundings while sipping on delicious coconut water from one of the bicycle vendors.
Great place to hang out in the evenings. Security patrols the park. There are lots of kids and families playing. Many food choices nearby.

The atmosphere in the evening was wonderful to walk around the park. There was a service going on in the church. It added an additional charm to the atmosphere. Great place to people watch and enjoy an evening treat.
Suddha S — Google review
At first glance this tiny park is little more than a few benches and trees. However, if you stick around it becomes a major social hub for the city (particularly in the evening on Sunday). We sat back and watched everything from dancing talent contests to kids entertainers and a band. You can grab yourself a pizza to go or bite to ear from one of the many places nearby and sit in the park and watch it all unfold - if nothing else it's just a great place to people watch.
Joe K — Google review
Enjoy spending time just sitting and enjoying the park! Order 🥥 coconuts from any of the bicycle vendors, tastes sooooo good. The views of the Church are nice!
Simran G — Google review
Nice park. A few restaurants around, and some good walkable place overall. You can enter the church and pay your respect.
