Eating well in Italy is like falling down: it’s easy to do. But then you come to a place like Cantina Del Drago and your dining experience is exceptional! The food quality and garden atmosphere made for a memorable meal. You’d be remiss if you are in Sutri and do not eat here.

This is a gem of a restaurant, situated in a “cantina” (cellar) of a 16th century palazzo, and facing a delightful garden courtyard. The cuisine is generally modern Italian with several Asian and American flourishes, including a seaweed (Wakame) hummus bruschetta, and ribs with BBQ sauce. The chef is definitely well-traveled! We chose the duck breast with Tonkatsu sauce, the braised beef cheek with red cabbage, and then lamb chops. These were all expertly cooked, seasoned and beautifully presented (see pics). Having eaten at plenty average places throughout Lazio, including Sutri, this food stood out! The only reason to remove a star was the level of service. The three waitstaff were overwhelmed by the Sunday lunch volume, and we had to wait inordinately long for everything, including 30 minutes between asking for the check and receiving it. Moreover, our waiter struggled to provide sufficient details about the food and ingredients when asked. I think this restaurant has the capability to up its game and be a spectacular eatery. If I were the owners, I’d be aiming for the stars. We’ll definitely be back again.

After a great morning in Sutri we stopped at this amazing restaurant 🙂 They have a large selection of local wines with great service and explanations about the origin and taste. We had a cheese platter with wine, pork chops and dessert. Everything was amazing 🙌

Cantina Del Drago is an unexpected pleasure in a tiny, historic village. The setting is authentic in a very old building with modern conveniences. The dishes are modern Italian cuisine whose traditional roots have a fresh twist. We were hungry on our drive from Rome to Tuscany and stopped for lunch here. We were the only non Italians and it felt very local and friendly, plus the food was excellent. Everyone at the restaurant when were were there ordered the King’s Plate with generous portions of meat and cheese. They specialize in meat but my pesto pasta was quite tasty as well. The prosecco was almost too drinkable.

Kind of overpriced. The food was good, although not exceptional, but 14 euros for a small plate of pasta is a bit much. The staff seemed disorganized and stressed. It was busy and I don't mind waiting a little while, but some of them were also just not very friendly. Next time I'll go somewhere else.

Wonderful Pizza! We arrived for dinner, but the place was packed (we didn't make reservations). We talked to one Waitress and another lady (Amalia, I believe), who were very friendly and helpful. They offered us to make a Take-Away order and sit on a nice spot around town. Again, the Pizza was very delicious! We highly recommend it.

Sutri isn’t that big a place, think classic village, somewhat off the beaten path. With that in mind, it may seem nonsensical that a brilliant pizza joint would exist in such a place, but Localetto is just that, brilliant. Everyone within 20 kilometres must know this though, because it is also very, very busy. Don’t let that deter you though, even of you have to get takeaway. Grab a full size ( it’s massive ) of something like the Diavola and you will make whomever is eating very happy. Staff are also lovely and did a great job of taking care of a wayward Canadian who spoke far too little Italian.

My father and I are walking the Francigena pilgrimage to the Vatican and stopped in Sutri for lunch, hoping to try something typical. Unfortunately, we had one of the rudest restaurant experiences I have ever encountered. The restaurant advertises that it is open until 3 p.m. We arrived at 1 p.m. when plenty of tables were free and several guests around us were still being served fresh dishes. Normally, we try out different restaurants on holiday, but we broke that tradition to visit L'Anfiteatro twice in 4 days. Their antipasti is a lovely selection of Italian products. The meat they recommend in the menu - and I totally forgot the Italian name - was also superb. And their white focaccia, that we got at our first visit was so delicious that we actually ordered it the second visit separately just before our Secundi (main dish). (The waitress probably considered us strange tourists - and she had every right to - but it was just too good to resist...)

Went in on a weekend lunch time. Wasn’t very crowded but we called for reservations nonetheless. Ordered ravioli and ragu pasta. Ravioli was good but Ragu pasta is not ideal. The meat seems to be thrown in onto the pasta separately. Waiting time was long. Aldo ordered meat with potatoes. Taste ok but potatoes are too salty. Wasn’t an ideal experience.
