Great little café! Loved the groovy decor, food was tasty and coffee was excellent. I ordered the pork and beans and they were amazing. Other things ordered were the French toast, cheese rolls and bacon sandwich. All pronounced very good. Service was swift and reasonable prices even with the 15% holiday surcharge.

Retro Cafe with outdoor seating. Did a coffee break on route from Lake Tekapo - Christchurch.- 2nd stop after Fairlie Bakehouse. Cosy with a fireplace going during the cold winter day - keep us warm. Free parking space behind the Running Duck cafe. More convenient than the P60 on main highway/street. Friendly owner. Good roasted coffee.

Big breakfast! Wow thats huge and the eggs benny were top notch. The scone was the size of my car and the butter wrapped up was a very cute touch

A perfect place for lunch. Honestly one of the best feeds I’ve had in a while that was delicious and great value. Lots of locals at this place so you know it’s good. Staff were friendly and did a good job. I got the chicken burger and the missus got the fried chicken plate and it was a big serving. Coffees were great! If I ever drive between Tekapo and Christchurch again I’m definitely coming back.

We randomly walked in with no expectations. To our surprise, the food was totally worth it! Naan was done just perfectly 👌🏻 thin and crispy. Curry was absolutely on point with the Indian hotness. Lovely dining area, nice wait staff, dedicated kids play pen with toys and clean toilets. We'll be back soon!!!

The Royal India at Geraldine is a wonderful restaurant. I seldom find that restaurant’s like these have the authentic taste but i have to say that this restaurant does. Ordered their Kadhai Lamb and Tandoori roti. The dish comes with a bowl of rice and that too was great with zeera sprinkled on it. The service by Amarjeet Singh and his troupe of Indian servers was excellent. Try out their food. You will come out wanting more

We always come here when we are in town. Consistently excellent dishes with some great variety. Their customer service is top class with Sam always making you feel very welcome. A huge malt whisky selection too, which is a bonus. We've eaten at many Indian restaurants around NZ and the Royal India is in the top 3. Highly recommended.

Very friendly staff, very affordable food and beat of all, VERY DELICIOUS CURRY! Food was served fast and taste exceptionally amazing compared to a lot of other curry restaurants I’ve been to. If you’re passing by Geraldine, this is not one you should miss! 10/10

Some of the best Indian food I have ever had! And in bloody ol Geraldine of all places. We had dinner at Royal India, and everything was great. Service was fantastic, polite and friendly. The food was absolutely scrumptious, and the staff bring you warmed plates before each course! Their Naan is off the charts tasty and they nailed the rice. All round five stars for the team at Royal India Geraldine, and you dear reader, should definitely check them out!

Wow! Authentic Indian food, amazing customer service, lots of items in the menu and little kids👶 play area as a bonus 😍. I highly recommend trying Chicken Tikka for starter, Lamb Rogan Josh for mains and Kadhai Paneer if you are vegetarian. My wife and I were very impressed with the softness of paneer, we mostly try Kadhai Paneer in Indian restaurants and this was one of the best I have tried in New Zealand. Your little kids will not be bored as there is a kids play area. My son loved his mango lassi, I am so glad we stopped at this Indian restaurant in Geraldine for our meal while we were on our road trip in South Island.

Love this place! It’s a good pitstop between Christchurch and Lake Tekapo. I love the range of sauces, jams and condiments and that you can even taste test them. The food and drinks here are good too, especially the smoothies. Toilets are clean so that’s a plus! Family-friendly place, highly recommended.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Barker’s of Geraldine – Absolutely Outstanding! I went online in search of chunky apple sauce (which, by the way, was the best I have ever tasted), and discovered Barker’s of Geraldine. What a find! Their website is gorgeous and easy to use, their range of products is mouth-wateringly tempting, and their customer service is beyond superb — friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. Communication was excellent from start to finish, and my order arrived superfast and perfectly packed. I couldn’t resist ordering more than just the apple sauce — the Gourmet Galore Gift Pack and all the other goodies were incredible. Every single product I’ve tried has been absolutely delicious, made with real care and top-quality ingredients. Barker’s is a true New Zealand gem — the kind of business that makes you proud to shop local. If you haven’t tried them yet, do yourself a favour. Five stars feels too few for how happy they’ve made me!

An amazing eatery with lots of options to choose from, a beautiful location sitting behind the Vicarage accommodation (also amazing to stay at). The Foodstore has an amazing selection of preserves, chutneys, sauces, toppings, syrups, relishes and jams to choose from. Not all are available in your local supermarket. So this place is the haven of all things delicious. Gift baskets also available or buy things individually. We will definitely be going back to top up our quickly deminishing purchases.

It’s our last stop at Geraldine before heading back to Singapore. I rarely leave reviews, but this place truly deserves one. The owner puts real heart into the food and drinks! We ordered a latte, a chicken pie, and a brownie — the latte was smooth and well-balanced, the pie was warm and comforting with a rich filling, and the brownie was perfectly moist. A true gem worth supporting! P.S. Special shoutout to Debbie at the counter — her warm and friendly service made the whole experience even more memorable

Stopped by a small town called Geraldine and stumbled upon this adorable little shop! It’s full of homemade goodies, with a ton of jams to choose from (and yes, you can taste them!). Did I buy some? Of course. 😂 Also, the scones? Absolute perfection!

Barker’s Foodstore and Eatery is a delicious place for a stopover. The product range is outstanding and ever so tempting. The staff very friendly and helpful. We had our take home shopping basket full of items in no time.

Great find in this small town. Friendly happy cheerful staff. Good selection of hot and cold food. Best roast lamb I have ever had all washed down with a montheiths black to compliment the lamb. All the meals that other dinners were enjoying all looked excellent and ample serves. 3 of our party had very large desserts on tall glasses and loved every spoonful. If ever in this part of the world again would definitely visit again.

It was ok. Very quiet, but it was a Tuesday night. The roast lamb seemed like itSunday’s leftover. A little dry and grisly. The deserts were good The staff were pleasant and food reasonably priced.

We came to this beautiful town to find this amazing resturant for lunch. The waitress inteoduce the special which my family orders all the special and it was amazing. The waitress have a chat with us sharing her stories and was super friendly and nice. My family enjoy this place so much, food and services and atmosphere is super amazing. Come by for a great time.

A Happening Place. That’s exactly what the Village Inn is. Anyplace which is thronged by the locals is the right place. And the locals love it. No wonder. There is an air of fun. Beer, Pool, Raffles and good pub food. Deadly combination. Stop by. You Will carry back fond memories

I had the roast lamb and it was delicious! I arrived during the lunch menu hours, but because I ordered a bit late, it was charged at the dinner price. It seems the lunch menu is available until 4:30 pm, and the dinner portions are a bit larger and slightly more expensive. The food came out incredibly fast, which was a nice surprise!

Charming little stop in Geraldine, perfect if you're heading between Lake Tekapo and the Church of the Good Shepherd. Great spot in Geraldine! The breakfasts are delicious. Had, The Big Breakfast and Waffles. The coffee is perfect, and the staff were very friendly. Was a nice and busy atmosphere on a Sunday. Highly recommend Berry Barn - will be stopping here again.

Visited this place on my way to Lake Tekapo. The staff were very friendly and the place was pretty clean and had well-spaced sitting area. I ordered a sausage roll and a takeaway flatwhite coffee. The roll was really nice, a solid 8/10. But the coffee was disappointing. It was burnt and costed $7. Not recommended.

We went for breakfast when leaving after a night stay in Geraldine. We both ordered Eggs Benny. It was served on an uncooked muffin with firm poached eggs, a small amount of bacon and a swimming pool of Holandaise sauce. I ate most just because we had spent $28 for each serve. My wife left most of hers. Wouldn’t recommend.

A large restaurant, with an even larger grocery store behind it. The Fishermen's Bowl was an assortment of fried chips and seafood, which tasted quite fine, but some items were lacking in the amounts compared to the large amount of chips. The Vension Burger had a good flavour, but was just too tough and dry. The carrots on it were delicious, crunchy and slightly tart. The Pancakes were disappointing, not very fluffy and tough on the edges, the grilled bananas and other accoutrements not adding a great deal. The Chocolate Cake was decent, spongy and most, with not too sweet a cream. A very simple cake. Overall, I would say to avoid the burger and the pancakes but past that this place is a fine stop for a meal.

There were seats but the place was a little crowded on a Tuesday late morning. Food was tasty, and we found the “Mushroom on Toast” to be very nice, recommended for individuals who like mushrooms. Waited quite a while before being attended to at counter to place our order. It also has a shop with the cafe that you can grab souvenirs and local produce from.

Our brunch spot after a 2 hours drive from Christchurch, our first for the trip! 🪑 seating was aplenty on a weekend around 11am, and we opted for an indoor table with an outdoor view after deciding against sitting outside due to the cold ☕ both the flat white and cappuccino were decent, did taste a little bitter and not enough of coffee fragrance though 🥔 the rosti stack wasn’t like we anticipated having expected “rosti pancakes” like the ones we have back home, they came in a burger form henceforth the name stack i presume. That said, the flavours were great, especially because of the bacon that was generous in portion. 🐖 the pulled pork panini was decent as well, though we didn’t enjoy the flavours at first for it was a little weird, but figured it was the cheese and got used to it after They do also have an adjoining shop with souvenirs and groceries alike. Definitely a spot to come by when passing by this quaint little town!

This was a fun stop, initially we stopped after seeing a large inflatable slide but the kids were too old. We ended up grabbing some locally made baking and doing the soccer golf which was really fun. What a cool little unexpected stop.

Pleasant customer service. We ate the Lamb shanks with seasoned veggies and mash. This dish is a must try. There was a tad bit of confusion with how customers were meant to line up to purchase their food. Some lined up from the left, and some lined up from the front. Some re-direction would be nice. Other than that, it is a nice spot to stop over down South.

Very nice place, good atmosphere, there is a great variety of NZ souvenirs in the shop, more or less local. Nice local honey! Coffee was ok but the carrot cake was no tasty and too much sweet.

Wow, a little treasure that was recommended to us, it did not disappoint. While the menu is extensive we only chose coffee and desert, the desert was amazing!! There are also gluten free desert and menu options. Stop in and check it out.

Great for Gluten & Dairy Free! Stopped here on the way back to Christchurch. Bustling town with a local market on Saturday. We had coffees, pies and I got a delicious GF & DF egg & bacon muffin/pie. It was great. Definitely recommend for Gluten free with so many options!

What an exciting adventure, full house, heaps of busy staff, excellent food selection at reasonable prices the awesome playground was such a awesome space. Loved the themed cubicles for reservations. For any improvements I would say check that all plants including weeds are safe for kids. Overall a cool spot and will be back for sure!!!!

Great Vibe. Parking okay. Friendly staff. Lots of GF treats and snacks. Menu was typical and uninspiring. Coffee was a wait and burnt/bitter. I feel on a better day it would be good. We had a GF brownie which was AMAZING! Heaps of seating inside. Great art work and photography on the walls.

Unfortunately Blue Cod is expensive currently, which was what we really wanted. The substitute fish was ok. The chips were excellent crispness and chunky.

The owner of Be Foodie was extremely kind and cares for the his customers' experience. He served us heated plates for sharing, chilled cups for water, and a full pitcher. Any concerns about the meal were promptly addressed. It's a small restaurant with a few seats perhaps better suited for takeaway, but the owner's kind demeanor made eating in very enjoyable. Pasta was slightly overdone for my tastes but portions were amply large for sharing and flavors were delicious! I'd love to return and would've tipped well had it been a practice in this country.

Stopped by this place on a winters night on our way back to Christchurch from a ski trip. We were very surprised by the quality of the Indian food this tiny unassuming shop was serving. We ordered the lamb nawabi, lamb Karachi and garlic naan. The lamb was so tender and juicy, both the curries where really hitting the spot but special mention to the nawabi, the coconut based curry complemented the perfectly cooked garlic naan. The owner/chef is soft spoken nice guy, I hope more people visit his shop and get to try the food, I for one am really looking forward to trying this place again next time I am in Geraldine.

The butter chicken pasta blown my mind. It was an interesting dish which I will recommend if u are looking for western indian fusion food in town. We also ordered lamb biryani n others, all were fantastic. The boss is also a friendly n talented man, cooks really well. Please support him🙏

we bought from the Papillon takeaways down the side. The absolute worst steak satay I've ever had. It tasted very strongly of yellow curry without a hint of peanuts. The chicken chow mein was ok. Very disappointing. $14 per large dish, big sizes. If you have to eat here, stick to the usual Chinese fare.

This place is fantastic. We were travelling late from Hokitika on a weekday and we were hungry. My wife called around and the proprietor of Papillon was incredibly nice and kept the place open so we could get some food. We were very grateful.

Another impressive place to visit. Their gin is absolutely amazing. We have tasted all but liked the Cherry one the most. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. Visit them while you are in Geraldine and try their beautiful gin collection.

Humdinger Gin is a lovely place to visit. They have done a beautiful job of their new premises on the main road through Geraldine town. We had the lovely and knowledgeable Bridget provide a tasting session for us that was fun and informative, and of course gave us reason to purchase some bottles to take home. Next time I am visiting Geraldine, I will definitely return to Humdinger gin.

Called in to the Humdinger gin distillery on my last visit to Geraldine. I had sampled a very nice gin of theirs at the Geraldine Fete last November and was keen to find it. The owner was really nice and friendly, very accommodating, and ironically was just back from a gin event in my home town!! After sampling 3 very nice gins I settled on their pink gin, which is always lovely and refreshing. Pretty sure the one I wanted was their Sloe gin, which was out of stock. If you are in Geraldine call in for a visit, I highly recommend them.

Very welcoming and friendly. loved a good yarn. Good descriptors of the gins. Gave time to savor the flavor. No pressure to buy. But I did buy the cherry gin liquer as it was so nice. Love the enthusiasm and passion they have for their product and excitement for their future. Highly recommend

Stumbled upon Humdinger distillery just off the main street of Geraldine and were tempted in to try a tasting. It's a small, family run distillery and there were three gins available at the time we visited. All were delicious but we chose to buy a bottle of their Citrus Gin. It was awarded a gold medal at the NZ Spirits awards in 2023. There are lots of foodie places to visit nearby - I highly recommend a visit to Humdinger if you are in the area.

I feel compelled to share my experience at the Geraldine Cheese Company, as it has left me with a heavy heart. This is the first time I am addressing an issue of this nature, and I encourage others to consider the numerous accounts from individuals who have felt similarly, suggesting that there may be a pattern of behavior that cannot be overlooked. During our visit, my wife and I browsed the shop, but the two ladies working there did not greet us, smile, or acknowledge our presence even though there was no one else there. While I initially thought this might be a simple oversight, things took a troubling turn when I approached the counter with our selections. I greeted the lady at the register with a friendly "hello," but she looked right through me and asked, "Is that all?" I was taken aback by the lack of warmth in her response. As I gathered my thoughts, I remembered that we had purchased black garlic at a food show in Christchurch and noticed that their shop sold black garlic puree. Curious, I asked if they also carried black garlic. Her response was disheartening. She pointed to the products behind me and said, "The ones at your back are all we have," adding that she had never heard of black garlic being sold. I tried to explain that it’s a unique ingredient that pairs wonderfully with mature cheddar. This prompted her to call over her colleague, and instead of engaging in a constructive conversation, they both ridiculed my inquiry. One of them remarked, “Yes, someone told me it tastes burnt and terrible,” while I was still at the register. In that moment, I felt insulted and belittled. It was difficult to process the disdain that seemed directed at me. I even pulled out a photo of the product I was referring to, hoping to clarify my request. It was disheartening to feel that I was being dismissed simply because of my background. This experience has highlighted a troubling reality: businesses need to recognize that people of all backgrounds can appreciate and know about cheese and culinary ingredients. It’s essential for establishments to create an inclusive atmosphere where every customer feels respected and valued. I hope that sharing my experience encourages reflection on how we can all contribute to a more welcoming environment for everyone, and that businesses like this one understand the impact of their actions, which can sometimes come across as discriminatory.

Did not provide a receipt for cash payment even when we requested she provide a receipt. Said they don't provide receipts for cash payments. It's a GST registered business , so by law they must provide a receipt if requested by customer. Probably they don't pay GST on cash payments thereby circumventing tax payments to govt.

Such a nice place to stop if you’re a cheese lover! There are around 6 different cheeses you can try. Staff is friendly and the prices are not too bad!

Called in today and was very impressed with the selection of quality cheeses available here. The 11 Year Old Epicurean Cheddar is wonderful and Garlic & Chive Gouda full of flavour. Both have a wonderful texture. Well worth a visit.

Lured by the friendly offerings of free cheese tasting, we entered this shop and were pleased to see they had Kapiti ice cream which was delicious! One staff member was friendly and helpful, however the other staff member seemed to have a permanent scowl on her face and when we asked for an extra spoon to share our ice cream we were told coldly "we normally only do one spoon per cup". Ruined our experience of this otherwise awesome store, what a shame :(

Food is great. With reasonable price. In my group has totally 6 people, and we spent 19 New Zealand dollar in average. Soup of the day is tomato and bacon, served with 3 pieces garlic bread. Very delicious.

The burgers are hands down the best in the country, have to say Coffee is superb and the real fruit smoothies amazing. The choice grabs you with amazement, you just want to try it all, hence going back again and again. Since we are regulars they reward us with a points card, shamefully in a way we racked up points quickly, which was a great treat to enjoy a free meal/coffee. We just love this place, so lucky to have such a cool upto date place the whole family enjoys visiting.

Amazing road side gem! Very tasty local beers (in-house brewing) and menu to match. We had the steak, which was perfectly cooked and the MUST HAVE Beef Short Rib Mac n Cheese, which was incredible! Very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend (but you may want to book to avoid missing out as we luckily got the last table on a Friday night).

(Not too sure if the hand drier in the toilet stall should be that high on the wall (the water was running down my arms as I dried my hands), maybe have a paper towel option for kids and shorter people). Food was fairly good. Average prices. Fries = top notch. Gingerbeer was very good. Enjoyed the farm scenery. Animals looked very content.

We stopped in overnight in our Motorhome as they provide parking for this. Great selection of beers and other drinks, as well as meals. We enjoyed the afternoon sampling a few drinks and choosing from the snack menu. Would definitely stop again.

The meal was amazing. I had the creamy chicken salad which was the best I've had for a very long time. Hubby had prawn risotto. The prawns were huge. We both cleaned our plates up. We had a dessert which we don't normally have. YUM. The service was great too. We parked overnight in our motorhome which is at no charge. We will be back

Came here for the seafood chowder but it was changed out of the menu. T.T Tried the open-faced beef steak sandwich. Its huge! The beef was perfect done, served on top of a big slice of ciabatta, onion aioli and greens. Has this beetroot hummus that i'd thought i would hate but surprisingly, i loved it! Went very well with the beef. Comes with a big side of fries. Very crispy and hot which was superb. A very full meal. The owner was very nice as well. Great service overall. :)

We had another great dinner at the House of Hop the crew are attentive and the food and brews are delicious. Easy access and very popular - we will be back (while we build our Redwood Hills MTB park just down the road).

Decided to take a break from driving in Geraldine and stopped here. Great lunch. Everything we ordered tasted amazing and was met with courteous service. Strongly recommend you give the place a try

Was our favourite place, tbh the best spot in Geraldine but now there’s new owners and will never be going back. My classic American cheese was soooo spicy couldn’t even finish it.

Been here for a bit and wanted dinner. Here I am at 1845 and hungry. Found a neat burger joint 2 doors up with a constant line of hungry customers ordering burgers. Disappointed I couldn't sample the menu at Q Cafe.

Was looking for coffee and breakfast. This place was the only one I could find open and was recommended by a lady going in for coffee. Coffee was excellent, and I had a monster burger as my big breakfast. It has to be one of the best burgers that I've had in years. Service was excellent, and next time, there will be calling in.

Short break in Geraldine from Wellington, and looking for something easy for dinner. We opted for the cyborg pizza to share. What a treat! Delicious flavors throughout, with no one flavour overpowering the others. We generally get our pizzas from the big brands in Upper Hutt...but this one kicks them out of the park. The topping goes well out to the edges and a good covering across the entire top....not just a cursory 'show' of topping. Happily recommend these pizzas to others and would definitely purchase again. Thanks team...it was delicious

Had a pizza and milkshake. Both were absolutely exceptional, as was the service. Considered moving to Geraldine, just for this place. Also, really cool wall art. 11/10

Lovely lamb shank with home cooked vegetables, gravy and mint sauce at a sensible price.

First impressions were a bit sketchy as the furniture is very basic. But the staff are amazing and the food was fantastic. We had the Galic loaf to start, the rooster burger and steak with garlic butter as the mains. We couldn't eat it all despite a good effort! The pricing is also really good!! Highly recommend to all.

The fish and chips was good although a bit limited with the chips and coleslaw quantity. Good size fish. Chicken schnitzel was fried to death and had enough mash but again very limited coleslaw with it, mushroom sauce was good. The menu was less varied then was on the website. Very basic pub food. Would not go there again.

Great meal as always. Nothing fancy just good kiwi kai. Will be back again when we come Geraldine

I hate to do this. I feel absolutely horrible because the service is so beautiful and welcoming. We were able to order on the self service kiosk which was easy to use and stress free while making decisions. Unfortunately the food was a huge let down. $94 takeaway order and we were reassured it will take 10mins to cook. I was impressed with time efficiency and we did come in 30min prior to closing so was grateful. I now understand why everything took short cooking time as everything we had was clearly microwaved. Everything was chewy, hot on outside, cold inside, rubbery texture, dry and soggy. Crispy chicken salad was the worst $20 meal, in photo he didn't touch the salad and that was the salad the chicken sat on. The fish cakes were hockey pucks with a rubber exterior. Chicken satay skewers were just as disappointing and the roti was like soggy cardboard. Curry was expected to be Thai hot and I wouldn't say it was mild but flavor was great but chicken was again dry and chewy Pad Thai was very good flavor wise with fresh sprouts but noodles were gluey. Rice was perfection. We will plan to order again one day maybe earlier as the food could had been as it was due to closing in half an hour and will happily change my review on a second opinion. Sorry for the review and hope it was just a one off. Kind regards

Pass by Geraldine at awkward hour and this appeared to be the only restaurant that still open. Was hesitant by the comments but it turns out incredible. Tried mild spiciness but I should have just ordered medium. They are quite nice to offer my extra chillis if I want. DON'T TAKE AWAY pls, stir fried food should be eaten piping hot and is best to dine in. Most of the negative reviews I read was take away order and I'm glad that I still give it a try.

Lovely place. Portions are generous and food is fresh. Lovely range of sauces for your meal. The lamb flavour was heading towards mutton so stronger than usual but still tender and moist. A delicious dinner in a lovely corner of NZ. Thank you Kebab World.

I bought a combo that came with chicken kebab, fries and a can of soda. The flavor of the kebab is good, but it was dry, you need to be more generous in the sauce.

I stopped here for lunch during my drive from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo. I felt this was a casual food stop. And I was afraid that they served cold leftover food. Because I arrived here at just opening time. But the owner and staffs kindly accept me and made meat hot for me. That was so refreshing. Thank you so much.

Food was good and the guy was nice but it came in a different wrap than kebabs normally do and the small was a lot smaller than normal.

Brought loaded fries and they were very nice will definitely come back nice food
