We ordered takeaway pizza after climbing Ben Nevis as we were just too tired to cook. Our apparentment was 20 minutes drive away from this restaurant. The buffet looked absolutely immense but sadly we had just missed the cut off time. Happy with the pizzas, consumed them very fast as we were so hungry! 👌

The food was absolutely amazing and the portions are big starter and main couldn't believe the size of the lasagne and it was delicious can definitely tell it's home made Robert was a great server smiling and throwing little jokes the atmosphere was great too definitely recommend the place and will be back

The service is super friendly and the food is nice. It’s not a super fancy place but it’s clean and it’s great value for money. They have buffet deals as well as a la carte and I’d defo return.

The place specialises in pasta and pizza and both were very good. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall a great place.

Hey there! So, we had a bit of a mixed bag at this little place we found after a long drive. On a Tuesday evening, we were hoping to enjoy a meal from the menu, but alas, it was closed. Instead, we were offered the “all you can eat buffet,” which came in at around £80 for two adults and two young ones. That was a bit steep for us, to be honest. On the bright side, the food was absolutely delicious! The salad bar and pasta choices were top-notch. The pizza was also tasty, but it could use a bit more variety in the toppings. The staff were super friendly and helpful. One lady in particular was a real gem, with a magical touch for the kids. They kept us all entertained and happy. We’ll definitely be back when we’ve saved up a bit more. Who knows, maybe we’ll find a better deal then!

What a fantastic find .Great restaurant with friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Not a massive menu but plenty to choose from for both adults and kids .Chose off the menu on our first visit . minestrone soup,filo prawns, focaccia and pate all delicious and well presented .mains arrived and again not disappointed,great portions and the "best carbonara" our daughter has tasted. Second visit we opted for a mix of menu and buffet and again not disappointed with either . Buffet lots of choice of salad,pizza and pasta.Food was hot and really tasty ,my favourite being the pepperoni meatballs and ravioli in a creamy mushroom sauce .Great value for money .we were the last to leave but didn't feel rushed out as some have mentioned in other comments . All in all the best 2 meals of our holiday.

Just an all round disappointment. Me and my missus wanted to visit here for years, dunno why, seemed busy, looked nice from outsides, we had the chance being nearby that evening. Still had a 4.2 rating on google so didnt think would be bad. Id wish id read some recent reveiws. So we got seated right away and was told its either buffet or a la carte menu, ordered some drinks and by the time they came we decided just to go for the buffet as our lads would smash a whole lot of pizza no problem. Cold section was generic itailian style cold rice, pastas and a tattie salad, then warm section a creamy ravioli and some meatballs in a tomato sauce. The ravioli was bland as hell and the meatballs we soft things akin to the old tinned campbells meatballs processed lumps. Really low quality. My kids hardly ate any pizza one had a few rounds of softscoop icecream, by this point i was more than ready to leave, cut my losses. There was loads of staff around i found quite weird actually how many, the one I dealt with seated us and got our drinks, ive only given a two as its self service buffet and i went up to get/pay my bill aswell. Will never be back.

Rooms are small but beds comfortable. Showers average. Hotel is dog friendly but dogs aren't allowed anywhere downstairs except the foyer. Plenty of dog friendly pubs and restaurants nearby, but odd that they aren't allowed in the bar of the hotel you’re staying at. Great location and good parking. Staff are friendly.

This hotel is directly across from the train station but I did not hear the train at night. I booked two king size rooms for our party. Both rooms were spacious with a large window. One room required a sizeable step up to access the bathroom, the other room did not. I could hear people passing by my room at night, but I did not hear noise from adjacent rooms. The highlight of my stay was the breakfast which we purchased as an add on. It’s a massive feast with so much selection. The service in the dining room was excellent. The food was also excellent. We had a drink in the pub the night we arrived. The pub was part of the hotel and it appeared to have a good mix of locals and hotel guests. This hotel had a lot of character (hunting lodge vibe) - you won’t get a chain hotel experience. I do like chain hotels and the consistency of experience they offer but this was a totally different experience that we welcomed for a change. I recommend this hotel and splurging for the breakfast; you likely won’t need lunch!

Went for dinner with family for my two year olds birthday and honestly the service was just outstanding. Alan, our waiter, went above and beyond. We asked for the childrens meals to be ordered and to come out ASAP, and that they did. They also came out with a birthday cake for my boy and candles singing happy birthday. On top of that all our food was absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back! Thanks again!

We stayed here from 29th September for my wife's 65th birthday in the lovely room that looks over to the station. Can't praise the staff enough. At dinner they appeared with a lovely cake with candles for my wife. On our next night they seated us at the table on its own in the turret which was smashing. Food was amazing well cooked and piping hot. Staff are so friendly and helpful.

The staff was very nice, the atmosphere classic and cosy. The bar was fun, the food at the restaurant also good. Overall one of the best hotels we stayed in Scotland, sadly that still doesn't mean it was perfect (sorry Scottish hospitality but gotta be honest) but for what we experienced overall it was the best out of the 5 places we stayed at!

Very nice hotel, pleasent staff and good food all beit a bit pricey! But where isn't these days! The room was on the small side and outdated including the TV! which must of been over 20 yrs old! The only advice I would give is avoid staying if they have live entertainment online the bar. Especially if your not planning on going to it and you are up early the next day as it's very loud still in the bedrooms above.

We didnt stay at the hotel but we had food which was soo good. I had the mince steak and tatties and my partner had the roast and both were perfect sportions and tasted amazing. Service was quick and staff were friendly and polite

It was okay! I feel like I expected more from this place. The food was just okay, service was hard. We walked in and were ignored for a bit before a guy behind the bar was super kind and offered to serve us. We were there for quite a long time just for lunch, I was hoping to be in and out much quicker than that

Stopped off for a quick lunch on our way past and it did not disappoint! Really chilled atmosphere/vibe , some cool decor , friendly service from Teigan and Bev, the burgers were really good but the roulade dessert was absolutely amazing. So tasty! Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Wonderful experience. I rarely leave reviews as I work in hospitality management and tend to be overly picky, however this so lovely I felt like I had to! The staff were welcoming. The food was outstanding. The oysters were some of the best I’ve ever had, I could probably have had about 20! Normally I would not have ordered a chicken dish but oh my gosh it was delicious. You can tell the chefs really care about their cooking and put love and thought into all their dishes. The wine menu was also a really welcome change from the boring standard restaurant choices. This shows the whole operation was carefully thought out. When the bill came I was surprised by the amazing value for money! We will definitely be back time and time again!

Best place for a real ale in Aviemore. We've visited the OBI quite a bit over the years and love this place. Most recently, the real ale selection was fantastic, and really well kept. We had the fillet steak, which was cooked exactly as we asked and had a lovely flavour. The smoked peanuts are also very good!

We visited for a Sunday roast after a morning up in the mountains and we were not disappointed. Friendly staff, prompt service, delicious food and good portion sizes. We both had the soup followed by roast pork with all the trimmings and we felt these were good value. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing atmosphere and staff, food not as great though - quite limited choice on the menu. Spring roll was quite tasteless, main course - chicken was tasty but the chicken breast was Asda dry as a bone. Desert was amazing - poached pear and Ice cream. If I went back I'd have a different starter then a pudding.

Initially we tried our luck as walk ins but they were fully booked, so I booked a table for the following evening and had quite high expectations seeing as they were so busy and the reviews were amazing. We were booked in for the Sunday evening, and the service was excellent, but the food didn’t quite do it for me. I had the jerk roasted pumpkin and tofu dish, but it wasn’t the explosion of flavour I was hoping for. Instead it was disappointingly bland, and the tofu was far too dry, making it quite difficult to chew and digest. However, my son did enjoy his cod dish - so at least one of us was happy! The Old Bridge Inn is a beautiful pub, service is great, but I think it’s fair to say the food is pretty much hit and miss depending on what you order. Vegetarians/vegans often get overlooked in terms of choice and flavour, so when I saw the menu I was really excited, but unfortunately they failed to deliver. I personally wouldn’t eat here again, but my son was happy with his choice.

Wonderful experience! My husband and I had a light dinner and dessert here recently. I had the soup of the day, which was carrot & coriander soup and honestly it was the best soup I've ever had! I wanted to ask for the recipe :) My husband had the Cullen skink....which he loved. We ended with sticky toffee pudding and it did not disappoint! Staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in for lunch after we had done the hill hike to see the Cairngorms reindeer herd. When we arrived they were still cleaning up after having a bus group that had slammed them. The staff were friendly and helpful and had us seated in no time. The food and drinks were excellent, as the steak pie and cullin skink were wonderful.

Easy to park and lovely outdoors, weather permitting, centrally located, popular place. We visited for lunch on a quieter day. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good customer service 👍 Food was good quality and reasonably priced. This is our third visit and will come back again. Well done 👏

We chanced a late walk in (bad people, I know) but the staff were so accommodating and got us a table pretty quick. Really nice setting , comfortable atmosphere and very clean. Food was good and reasonably priced for what you get. Nothing fancy just simple food done well.. and sometimes that’s what you need. Great location , plenty parking, friendly staff , good range of options and a really efficient menu system regarding allergens. Was very impressed with this- more restaurants should follow the allergen layout in menus that these guys do. They advertise steak night on a Wednesday and a consistent variety of live music at the weekend. If you’re in the area , I would recommend a visit. Don’t think we’ve been here in over 10 years but we’ll definitely not leave it so long next time.

Wow what a place. Went for a few drinks earlier in day and I had seen so many great reviews so decided to try out for dinner in the evening. The food was incredible, really good home comfort food and the steak pie was unbelievable. The steak was soft and the right amount of gravy. My daughter got the gambas pil pil and wanted another portion it was that tasty 😋 You have to finish off with the sticky toffee pudding. The place was full and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff were so pleasant and very attentive. Would highly recommend and will definitely come back on our next visit.

Been here a number of times but last night we went for the seafood platter. Incredible! Give them 24 hours notice and they will provide you an incredible feast. The steak was absolutely amazing. Beautifully tender, , prepared exactly as I ordered. I haven't enjoyed beef like this in a long time. Unfortunately, what completely disappointed me were the fries :-/ They were too oily and soft for my taste. The environment and the staff were very nice. The reservation was a good choice. Thanks

We stayed in Boat of Garten and dined at Anderson’s twice during our visit. The food was outstanding—succulent, fresh, and absolutely mouthwatering—paired with impeccable service that made each meal memorable. Jordan, the head chef, is clearly passionate and dedicated, with a real talent for creating dishes that are both beautifully presented and uniquely crafted. Anderson’s is a true gem, and we’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re in Scotland.

Lovely intimate restaurant in the heart of Boat of Garten. Service throughout was attentive, efficient and friendly. The food was excellent and a nice mix between bistro and pizzeria. The menu was varied but not extensive, and the food we had was delicious and well cooked. They also do takeaway wood fired pizza from a window at the side of the building and we’d definitely give that a try next time we’re in the area. We’d also visit the restaurant again to try out more of the bistro menu.

Had a nice main meal here but I could not believe my eyes when the apple crumble was brought to the table. Absolutely appalling! I’m still in shock at what was served in front of me. The main meal was already expensive enough, so you’d think a pricey place would give you an unforgettable apple crumble especially charging £8 for it! We waited quite some time for it so we hoped it would be good and were looking forward to it until we saw this….. Tinned apple with water remains topped with cheap granola! Absolutely awful to serve this for such a price, let alone even half that price. So disappointing….

Fantastic pizzas! Ordered takeaway online and the pickup was ready when we arrived. Dough was nice and chewy, toppings were great. My favourite would probably be the Salami Piccante, I loved the chilli honey. The padron peppers were great too.

Great pub food in Aviemore, with fantastic staff who were welcoming and interested in our day. The pub is dog friendly, serving dinner for your pups. I'd recommend the macaroni and the kids meals. The haggis bon bons are lovely but I felt the chips were not the best. Overall it's worth a trip but I'm not sure I'd go for seconds.

Love stopping at Macdui's for fish & chips w/mushy peas when I'm visiting Scotland, but most especially on this trip because I got to meet sweet Alfie, the pub dog!! 🥰

We wanted to like this place. We really did. The server was a sweet heart and funny as hell. But oof the food. The nachos were thrown together in probably less than 10 seconds. My friend's burger looked and tasted sad. My veggie burger was forgettable. We arrived towards the end of the evening, so maybe the kitchen decided to mail it in with our table - hard to say.

Blinking lovely! Absolutely recommended. If you're vegetarian like us, there is some good options, but the deep fried veggie haggis was just to die for!! Portions were huge and cost was good for the amount of food too. Deep fried mars bar was a must try and it was delicious. The staff were brilliant, really friendly and the Happy Haggis was clean and inviting. Will visit again on our next trip to Aviemore!

Happy Haggis is a very popular chip shop for a reason - the food and service are fabulous. I was really pleased to see they had veggie haggis on the menu, which was of course deep fried deliciousness! I thought the chips were also great, and none of the food was soggy or greasy. My son really enjoyed his fish too. Staff were friendly and very efficient. We did have to wait around ten minutes or so for our food, but I thought that was quite reasonable considering how busy they were. There’s no dining tables inside, but there are some tables outside. Although most people were taking their food away. Great experience and I highly recommend visiting Happy Haggis.

Great Fish and Chips. Curry sauce and peas are also great. Shame it takes so long to order and it's is rather expensive.

I come across this place after searching for some eatery places while working in the area, place looked busy which was a good start. Both members of staff nice & friendly i went for a double burger with bacon as a supper, £16 ish with a can of juice too. Burger itself the burgers inside didn't taste full quality they did taste rather cheap, everything else sauce salad bacon etc was spot on as was the chips, I couldn't fault the service got a bleeper to wait, didn't wait too long for food either. 4.5 out of 5 if burgers quality was better I'd have given a 5 (The meat) Staff 5/5 Location 5/5 Price 3.5/5 Use them again? Yes friendly and enjoyed the seating area

No trip to Scotland is complete without a Battered Mars Bar and these guys delivered! Delicious crunchy batter with warm gooey nougat and caramel goodness inside. Went on a Friday night and it was VERY busy so be prepared to wait a little while if you go during peak times, but well worth the wait!

Must be free range... First visit to Aviemore today, came to dinner time, so had a look to see where the local chippy was. We don't have haggis suppers in England, so make the most of it whenever I'm up here. Have had some good ones, and some...not so good ones. I think this might be the best one yet, must be free range haggis 😄😋❤️

We drove about half an hour to this place and it was totally worth it! Two of us four eat vegan and they have an extra vegan menu and also a vegetarian menu. The vegan haggis was awesome! You can eat Scottish classics here. My parents had the Steak and Ale Pie and the Chicken Balmoral and they both really enjoyed it. We liked that they have a "dogs welcome" sign at the door. The staff is very friendly. You should book a table to make sure you can eat here.

Very cute restaurant in Grantown-on-Spey. Service was adequate; nice people who work there but our waitress wasn't super interactive. Menu had a good variety. Kids menu available. Tons of drink options - has quite the Scotch collection. Husband had the chili and really enjoyed it; I had chicken tenders and they were very good. Our son had sausage with vegetables and ate it all! Highly recommend if passing through this area or staying nearby.

Awesome little pub with delicious food, friendly service and great vibes. They also have a large selection of scottish beers. We had the turkey roast dinner, venison casserole and 2 types of desserts, all amazing.

We had lunch here with a large dog and a noisy baby. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They had a great gluten free menu for myself and also a vegan menu for my wife. Great selection of drinks, soft and hard. Baby changing facilities available which really helped.

We were happy to be there. We were so lucky to have a table since we didn't make any reservations. It was always full. Glad that no puffins were hurt when they prepared the menu. The food was delicious. We had lasagna and smoked haddock fish cake - quality!

We had a wonderful dining experience at the Rowan Tree Country Hotel, just outside Aviemore. The restaurant is full of character, set in an old 18th-century building with open fires, wood beams, and a cosy, homely atmosphere overlooking Loch Alvie. The food was exceptional. The menu showcases fresh, locally sourced produce with real creativity—Scottish classics like venison, lamb, and salmon are prepared beautifully, The bar is also impressive, with an extensive choice of whiskies, gins, and local ales. Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Staff were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to accommodate dietary requirements. It’s clear they take pride in making sure everyone has a great experience. Overall, this is one of the best meals we’ve had in the Aviemore area—great value, outstanding quality, and a perfect setting for a relaxed Highland evening. I had a truly wonderful stay at the Rowan Tree Country Hotel & Restaurant. The location is stunning — nestled beside a tranquil loch with breathtaking views and peaceful surroundings that make it feel like a true escape from the world. The hotel itself has so much character, blending rustic charm with warm hospitality. The room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with all the comforts I needed. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The food at the restaurant was delicious — hearty, freshly prepared, and full of local flavour. This place is a hidden gem in the Highlands. Whether you're looking to unwind or explore the scenic beauty nearby, I’d absolutely recommend it and would love to come back again!

We had a great stay at Rowan tree country hotel with our dog. The walk next to the door is just amazing. Breakfast menu is great and service is excellent.

I stayed at the Rowan Tree Country Hotel for a week with my husband and three autistic teenagers and dog! The accommodation was perfect for us whilst being clean, comfortable and attractive, as we had two rooms opposite each other on their own floor, almost like a suite! We can't recommend the hotel highly enough. It was the first time my children had stayed in a hotel, and it could have been difficult, but the hosts and staff were very understanding and accommodating to their needs. Good wifi, of course, helps with teenagers too! The food was delicious and scenery stunning. This hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring many Scottish sights and walking or just relaxing in the beautiful mountains. We all had an amazing week, seeing dolphins in the Moray Firth, paddle boarding on lochs and doing a boat trip on Loch Ness. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our time in The Rowan Tree. We had a beautifull room. It was clean, comfortable and the bed was great. The hotel itself is everything you expect from a hotel in the Highlands: the interior, the atmosphere, everything breathes Scottish hospitality. The staff was very friendly and capable. Both owners were friendly, helpfull and even special wishes were granted! The food is very tasty...and so on. If you want to visit the Spey Valley: this is the place to be!

We only ate at the restaurant and were delighted with both the food and service. This place has an elegantly simple menu; the tagine and the venison were great, as were the crumble, the cheese platter and the wine.

What a wonderful place to spend an evening! the meal was second to none (best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot coming from the coast). The service from the restauranteur and the waiting staff was brilliant. I regretted not getting a dessert! Great vibe in the pub afterwards. Cairn hotel is the perfect representation of Carrbridge, warm and friendly.

Just happened upon this beautiful quaint restaurant/bar while out for a drive. Super friendly staff, delicious food (steak and ale pie/ Angus burger with both of us having sticky toffee pudding) I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s also dog friendly. I’m sure my friend and I will be back

Everyone at the Cairn Hotel has been super lovely and attentive! The location is great, the staff are great, the food was great and so was the ale! A hidden gem on the edge of the Cairngorms with great pricing, will be absolutely staying here again if I’m ever nearby!

Really good pub with bar meals or a small restraunt if you want to be a bit more quiet. It probably needs a bit of a tidy up but that's part of the charm. Nice outside area for a drink on a sunny day. Not stayed in the rooms personally but people I know who have say they are OK.

Stayed here for a single night on my way further north. Had a small single room in the attic which fitted my needs with a double bed, though it was a little too soft for my preference, and a stand in shower, though the door on it didn't fully close, making it a little cramped. In addition, the handle on the rooms door was busted and made it hard to turn. However, there was free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and even a chocolate bar on arrival. TV with great reception and great WiFi. In the evening I had a nice stuffed chicken breast with roast carrots that was lovingly presented, and a Scottish take on an afogato with honey whisky which really nade the taste incredible. Breakfast was included in the price and it was a nice typical British and Scottish selection. Met several members of staff throughout my time there, all of whom were very friendly and helpful, especially the person I assumed was the manager who was able to help me with a few issues. There is also a Spar just down the road if you need supplies. Overall, it's a nice place to stay for the price, though I feel the room could have used some light maintenance.

great selection of beers, extremely friendly staff and very helpful. only used as as a bar so can't comment on the rooms or hotel. looking forward to next visit, only downside is I'm only here on holiday for a few more days.

Warm and friendly family run hotel with a very attentive owner who is a friendly and helpful presence. No frills comfort and hospitality. Highly recommended.

A very pleasant experience, good cuisine, many options, including vegetarian and with different tastes. We would 100% return, highly recommended, congratulations.

Tasty food although slightly smaller portions than we could hope for. The duck breast dish was merely a salad with 4 very small lumps of sweet potato. Good thing we also ordered fries. Keep this in mind. Or when you feel hungry order a starter aswell bit in the higher range than we usually frequent, but the quality of the food was also in a higher range.

A lovely small laid back restaurant. Fantastic freshly cooked food and a very attentive & efficient single member of staff serving out the dishes to the 7 covers occupied during our visit. A single chef in the kitchen produced excellent well prepared meals. If you are considering a meal here my advice is book in advance. You will not be disappointed. During our weekend away in the Highlands we had 3 dinners at different venues. My wife and I agreed this was No.1 (our 2nd choice I also rated highly...so check out my previous reviews list , its there. The last one, I just didn't rate - based in Kingussie with a similar set up to the Letterbox. Maybe just bad luck on our part the night we visited!). July 2025 update.... Returned to this restaurant. Another great meal. The venison main course dish was fantastic. The strawberry/sticky toffee pavlova and the apple strudel with ice cream were delicious. Worth every penny.

A nice little restaurant with lots of lovely options. We booked ahead as there were 7 of us. There seemed to be only one member of wait staff which meant a little bit of waiting to get initial orders in. The food was all really nice. The cheese cake was a bit disappointing but the strudel was great. Important to note that it’s cash only. So use the cash point before you come.

We arrived a few minutes after the kitchen closed and still the chef was so kind to allow us to have dinner there. We got a venison dish and a sirloin steak and both the meat and the sides were generous portions and delicious. The waitress was so cheerful and welcoming too and the place was clean and cozy. Loved it there, thank you very much!

The four of us here came to play four rounds of ⛳️ I stayed here. We had a fantastic time. It’s a really great and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff is really friendly all in all a good experience I would highly recommend it.!! The train station right next to the end is fantastic with the old steam locomotive. Would like to pass on my gratitude to all the staff at The Boat Country Inn during our recent stay. Beautiful area. Peaceful. Everyone was so welcoming, helpful & friendly which made for a relaxing stay. Absolutely loved our spacious twin room for myself & my son with fabulous views across the fields from our 1st floor room. Watched the steam trains rolling in too with a piper playing as the train arrived. Very close to Loch Garten where the Ospreys visit & nest. Well worth a visit. The breakfast was exceptional with a variety of choice to suit everyone. The food in the restaurant was of high quality. Can recommend the belly pork, absolutely delicious. We hope to be back in 2026 for a longer stay.

Absolutely first class. I could not ask for better. When we arrived the place was booming. We checked in wanting a double room and the guy behind the desk said if it's not a double room come back down and let me know. We my mate and I went up to our room which had just a double bed 🛏️ which would have been fine. But we went back down and said and he gave me a key to another single room. So we ended up with a room each for the price of one. Excellent service throughout our stay. And our dinner in the restaurant was amazing our steak 🥩 was cooked to perfection of our medium choice along with chips tomatoe mushrooms onions etc and a beautiful pepper sauce. The Boat is a lovely, welcoming hotel with excellent, spacious rooms that are very comfortable. The food is excellent (especially the fish & chips) with a good range of choices for meat and non meat eaters. The bar has a good range of beer and there is an excellent wine list with a number of options by the glass. It is in a great location to explore the cairngorms or speyside and the staff are very friendly.

This hotel is an absolute delight, truly in classic Scottish style. It is set in a wonderful location, right next to a forest. In front of it, there is a charming little station for a steam train. The atmosphere is magical and full of character. A truly unique and unforgettable place.

We had a great stay having moved to one of the Garden Rooms which had an incredibly comfortable super-king bed. Breakfast was very good with a decent selection and option to order off a menu. Check in/out was quick and smooth. As others have said, the hotel could do with some investment/ renovation and the sound proofing in our room was not great but overall we were happy with our stay and had a good rest whilst walking the Speyside Way.

Very friendly staff who accommodated our party of 8 plus baby in high chair plus 3 dogs. Also catered reasonably well with guests gluten and dairy intolerances. Would definitely recommend visiting for a drink or food inside or out and it’s right at the station for the steam train stop.

Easily the worst “indian” food we have ever had —with service to match Our group are world travelers who were in Scotland scotch tasting before moving on to a Mediterranean cruise — so we know our food! Tarka dhall was flavorless with no spice and fresh garnish Chicken korma was too sweet with again no spice flavor Chole ( chick peas ) —chef forgot to spice the dish??? Meat paratha had pink flecks that passed off as meat . Dry and once again , the universal flavor —NO TASTE! Service was slow —waited 2 hrs to get our main meal. Ths staff could not care less when we expressed our dissatisfaction. Their response —“write a review” As an Indian from the USA , this restaurant is an abomination and i am embarrassed that they are trying to pass off as an Indian restaurant

Visited three times whilst on holiday. Still as good as previous years. All of the dishes have their own very distinctive flavours and spices. Plenty of care taken over the vegetable dishes, making them very tasty. Love the Paneer. Polite attentive service.

Best curry I’ve ever had! My husband and I were looking for a dinner spot in Grantown-On-Spey, and were recommended Sylhet Brasserie. The staff were friendly and highly attentive, the atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting, and the food was out of this world. The Makhani curry was so good we came back the night next to get it again! Special thanks to Mahtab for the menu recommendations and exceptional service. We would have returned a third night if we’d still been in town.

BEST CURRY OF MY LIFE Stop what you’re doing and go get a curry here. I have lived in many countries, traveled in many more, and this small hole in the wall in the remote Scottish highlands somehow has the best curry. Mahtab, our waiter, walked us through the menu well, and guided us to great choices. My wife and I had two nights in this town and we came here twice. First night we ordered the Punjabi Masala and the Makhani. Listen to me, the Punjabi was so good I actually Licked. The. Bay leaf…. Couldn’t stop if I wanted to. The next tight we ordered the Makhani again and the Korai and the South Indian Garlic Chili (a bit spicy but awesome). Our next trip to Scotland we are 100% making sure to stop here for multiple meals. Curry’s are cheap, with naan and rice and drinks the price sneaks up on you a little bit for this quality Im not gonna complain at all.

Asked for chicken pathia, and checked that it was medium hot, before ordering. When it arrived it would have burnt your tongue! It was quickly replaced, but spoilt our anniversary celebration a bit

I think i will end up disappointing a lot of local people but I must. I want the reader to know that this is Not how any cuisine from India tastes like. Its probably a Bangladeshi outfit who are selling bangladeshi cuisine but please stop calling it Indian in any context. I respect what is cooked and served here. I totally understand how local scottish people would have come to love its taste, possibly this is how the cuisine here has evolved. Chicken tikka is never ruby red, veg zalfrezi does not have high countable number of chillies, mushroom garlic is not a chopped mushroom dish, naan does not need a yellow turmeric embalm on it & for the love of kilfi i could never figure out what was I eating as ‘kulfi’. I m sure the establishment is great but its Not Indian. I do thank the place for filling my team with warm food on xmas eve where most places were closed! I wish your team all the best.

What a great place, brilliant Vegan breakfast, really nice staff and reasonable prices. I really want to give this place five stars, but my word, the facilities need some work, like a diamond ring on the unwashed hand of a mechanic. We have a toilet seat that needs replacing, toilet none brush with remains of, missing flush button, rusty and unclean soap dispenser, questionable electrics, a door stop that wants a good clean, and would it hurt to remove the stuff that fixed something to the back of the door. I'll certainly be returning as this is a great place, but I only hope some improvement has been made by then.

Going by recent reviews, I was hoping for decent food and service. I was wrong. Had the soup and sandwich offer. Soup was carrot and coriander, which was so heavily spiced I couldn't taste anything else. And the sandwich... well it was a pesto chicken sandwich, but there were 4 very small pieces of chicken in a side. It was mainly chopped up ice berg lettuce. Not very nice at all. The worst bit was the half pot of hot (not boiling) water with the teabag on the side. Staff were pleasant, but no one seemed in charge nor trained.

Had a fabulous breakfast in this cafe within a very cool shop, the staff were super friendly and the service was quick, great little find, will definitely be back 👍

Great food and friendly staff, the breakfasts are well priced etc. they let me swap out items on the breakfast I didn’t want etc which some places get funny about. We brought in both dogs as they are dog friendly and provide water bowls. Great place worth a visit

A great variety of vegan options. I was so excited to have a hot chocolate with vegan whipped cream! The staff were also very friendly. Would love to go back next time I’m passing.

Delicious pizza from Pizzariach in Aviemore! Perfect for a family meal after an active day. We enjoyed a veggie option, a mega meat option and two cheese pizzas for our kids. We will definitely be back when we are next in Aviemore 🌟

We ate there, when we were on holdays in Aviemore. Those guys serve a quite good pizza. The staff looks so young, that my mates and me had a discussion about child labour 😅, but they are awesome. Even in busier times, we didn't have to wait to long. Or you order only and pick your stuff there. A great Pro is the gluten-free pizza! When they could arrange a vegan cheese alternative, this would be perfect! We had the Sweet Chili Haggis Pizza, a gluten-free Pizza with some toppings and the hot Pizza. All pizzas were great. So I can recommend them highly

The 9 inch pizza I got was the smallest 9 inch pizza I've ever see called a "wee one". At £9.25 for the Margerita it's a total rip off!!! I asked to see box sizes before I chose 9 inch and wasn't told it wouldn't actually fill the 9 inch box. Disgusting ripping off customers like this. The service was nothing special and she should have told me this before I ordered and paid. Gave me a buzzing thing of sorts and had to ask what to do with it. She never said a word. No atmosphere as was just waiting for my very disappointing take away. Won't be back and would not recommend to anyone who's actually hungry.

Ordered for collection at 19:20, arrived at 19:18 just as the pizzas were getting boxed. Absolutely spot on, can't beat a venue that is hot for time management. Food was tremendous, really good pizza, all high quality toppings, very tasty and cooked perfectly. They've got it dialled in by the seems of it. If we're ever back in Aviemore this will be on the list without doubt. Wish I had some photos to attach because they looked top tier. If there was a downside, it's the price. But hey-ho, good quality grub all the same.

Love the toppings of Woodland pizza with the ricotta, pesto and mushroom. The thin crust base is good and may have tasted better if it had not cooled after the 12 mins journey back to my B&B.

Had pleasant meal. Husband said the seafood linguine was very good. The sticky toffee pudding and lemon mousse were really nice. The ladies were very friendly.

An interesting mix of Scottish, Thai and specials on the menu. Was super impressed with the size of the prawns...until they were eaten. Frozen prawns where one turned to mush and couldn’t be eaten. Buy fresh and get smaller ones if that was the reason to buy frozen. The restaurant felt like it was cutting corners at every opportunity. The crab special was padded out with prawns and sauce, very little crab. We were advised by some locals to avoid the steak as it’s frozen, so opted for the specials. Horrendously disappointing for the price. We would have had a second drink but no one came to offer, so we decided to skip pudding and ask for the bill when server finally came.

Food was good but the star of the show was definitely the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

We came here for dinner and had the Rump of Highland beef and the Seafood tagliatelli. The Highland beef was especially good. Definitely a solid place.

Found this wee gem on a trip back from Nairn heading to Glasgow. Sunny day and we sat in the garden, a little sun trap. Didn’t want to leave. Delicious soup, and coffee. Cakes looked good but we didn’t try.

Hidden gem you won't find on social media as they are off-grid and happier for it. Warm and hospitable welcome. Delicious cakes and coffee throughout the day. Fabulous evening meal menu. Max 6 diners - peaceful adults only. So good it doesn't need hype. Worth the travel if you fancy a foodie adventure.

Always a favourite stop whilst visiting Grantown-On-Spey, whether for lunch or coffee & cake. (The muffins are fab!) Popped in for lunch recently and the soup was amazing! (Carrot and Harissa) The staff and service are always second to none. Highly recommend.

How wonderful that this gem now offers evening dining on Fridays and Saturdays. It is an absolutely wonderful place to dine. The atmosphere is brilliant with art and crafts adorning the walls, warm cosy lighting and when appropriate an open fire. It feels magical. Ellie and her assistant provide such a warm welcome and remain fully attentive throughout, without imposing in any way. You are not rushed and can enjoy the meal and evening at your leisure – a totally relaxing experience. As for the food, it is of such a high standard that nowadays is hard to find outside expensive restaurants. Every dish is well thought out, with wonderful combinations of ingredients and flavours maximised. Alan (Big Al the chef) is a master of his craft and yet so unassuming. Altogether a fantastic experience not to be missed. Thank you so much Ellie and Al. We will definitely be back!

Came across this cute little gem while we were visiting. Everything about this bakery was perfect. We tried their scones, and muffins and were sensational. The coffees were amazing. Will definitely come back if we visit this town.

This has always been our favourite coffee spot when visiting our wee highland home. What a great surprise when we discovered that they now open as a restaurant over the weekend. These guys are good, we have dined with them in the past when they did a restaurant near to Aviemore. What a delight, a small menu that was difficult to choose from as we wanted it all! Flavours were amazing, beautifully presented, wine list was great and it was exceptionally good value for money and as always the owners are such a pleasure. What a great addition to the town. We got the bus from Aviemore and the timings were perfect. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you for a fantastic meal.

This is an art gallery as well dining area at back by open fire.. Cafe doesn't do cooked breakfast but do offer bagels with a choice of fillings. I went for Granola natural yoghurt toasted almonds berry and cherry compote.

We enjoyed our authentic wood fired Neapolitan style pizza here. The food was delicious and the service once we were seated good. Food came out quick and fresh and hot. One drawback was having to leave our phone number while waiting for a table and being called only after we had left and travelled a distance of about 20 minutes. Tables seemed to be available. There was no place to stand at the restaurant and wait. Later when we were seated I noticed there were other patrons who were seated immediately upon arrival, maybe bc it was less busy later. Nonetheless, great pizza.

The best place to get pizza in Aviemore, if not in the whole Scotland! You can really taste the fresh ingredients. The pesto, chicken, and parmesan pizza was different class! 👌 Tiramisu was also delicious! All this was enjoyed in the nice atmosphere with very friendly staff!

We were in Aviemore for a few days and fancied having something different to eat, after browsing online Cheese & Tomatin seemed to be the number one place in the area. We tried phoning to book but unfortunately the line doesn't work so it is just first come, first served. They are located above the cairngorm mountain sport shop with free parking and a side entrance to access the restaurant. As we entered we were greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table. It felt a really homely restaurant with sofas/chairs, skiing and snowboarding items dotted around to add the feel of Aviemore. It is all table service and with a great selection of pizzas it was hard to pick! They are all handcrafted and taste fantastic, proper pizza base with local ingredients. We were going to takeaway but with the same prices for sitting in we decided to enjoy it overlooking the town centre. Cheese and Tomatin was brilliant, if your in the need for a proper homemade pizza look no further. Will definitely be back!

A great place! Visited twice during my 4-days stay at Aviemore. All the dishes we had were great and very tasty! - Margherita pizza - Lentil soup (soup of the day) + focaccia bread - Chips - Mixed salad - We did not expect much for the pizza but it was very tasty. - The lentil soup was also very tasty and it was the soup of the day. Focaccia bread came with it and it was really good. - The staff members were very friendly. - Nice atmosphere with great views around on the first floor. - There are quite a few parking spaces just outside. If full, there is a public car park (Aviemore car park) right on the opposite side. You can also park at Aviemore Retail Park where there are Aldi, Costa and so on. - You can order through the QR code. (I could not find it in the first place so had to order it at the till but the QR code is attached to a spoon at the table.) - There is no wifi available. Perhaps they might want to consider having a public wifi for ordering through the QR code as 4G/5G did not seem to work so well.

Great authentic Napoletan pizza in the heart of Scotland. It’s a shame that this restaurant is being ran so poorly: 1) Place cannot be seen from the street. There is not even a sign visible. Just a simple banner on a sheet. 2) We were greeted in the restaurant as if nobody came in. 3) Toilets are dirty. 4) Nobody informed us about the specials of the day. 5) Food came to our table fast but in the wrong order. 6) Bowl of chips, Pizzas and finally the drinks. Which we requested room temperature but these were served ice cold. 7) Pizza bases were char burned in some areas making the pizza uneatable. Oven base in clearly not cleaned frequently and flour is burnt between a pizza and another. 5 members of staff taking care 6-10 tables with an overall occupancy of 40%. With 3 out of 5 members almost idle all the time we spent in the restaurant. It’s such a shame that a place with such a good pizza feels like being sabotaged like this.

Thought we would give this restaurant another opportunity, and so glad we did. Saturday afternoon at around 4pm and we managed to get one of the last 2 tables. Great choice of pizza's, we chose the haggis and black pudding one, and it was amazing. We decided to share 1 pizza and 1 side of chips and that was about right. A glass of wine each too all for £28.00 which I feel is reasonable. The place was busy, however both the food and drinks arrived promptly. Will definitely return

Friendly staff, affordable hearty food - you can't go wrong! No frills exterior reminded me somewhat of the trucker stops along highways in the US and Canada. We stopped by for dinner on our way to a campsite, the menu has many different meals for adults and kids, the establishment is also dog-friendly and they were happy to cook a couple of sausages for our dog. We had the beef pie and mash and lasagne and chips along with dessert: jam sponge and custard and chocolate fudge cake and ice cream. All delicious, home cooked feeling. We ordered a haggis pizza to take back to our campsite and that too was awesome! Highly recommend.

The most nostalgic, heart warming, lovely little pit stop that I always look forward to visiting. Been going here since birth, and is always a treat for my family and I to stop in for a quick pot of tea, a filling lunch and sometimes a wee milkshake. The menu is simple and effective serving pies, pizzas, burgers and breakfasts. The staff are always friendly and the tables are always clean. I love this place and will always hold it close in my heart. Thank you for all the amazing meals over the years and I’m looking forward to my next visit! Cheers :)

Look, this is a truckers' diner just off the motorway. If you're expecting something posh, this is not it. However, if you adjust your expectations accordingly, I think you'll like it. We initially stopped by just to get some snacks but decided to have lunch instead when we saw their menu. The prices were good, the portions were large and it was surprisingly tasty. Staff were friendly and we left happy, so I would definitely recommend this place for a no-frills, good lunch.

Clean and friendly, fabulous food, reasonably priced. Made to feel very welcome (Inc our dog). The 3 of us had different meals and all were served in a timely fashion, no excessive waiting, despite it being busy and good sized portions. I definitely recommend this place and would have revisited on our return journey if we'd have travelled that way.

Popped in on way to Dundee as my work delivers their so thought I would try it. Well worth just going off the A9 slightly for the food. Plenty parking plenty seats and the food was cooked perfectly and a good portion well worth the money and staff were very polite and helpful. I will always pop in anytime I'm passing from now on.

No one around when we arrived, waited and waited in the shabby bar with our cases, no way to call anyone (bell at reception had been disconnected), place was in a terrible state: smashed door in gents, generally very run-down and unwelcoming. We left and stayed in Travelodge 40 mins up the road in Inverness. Edit - have no idea about rooms, we didn't get that far.

Paid £65 for just 1 night on a quick business trip up to Kingussie. The staff were very friendly, and the room was clean with fresh white bedding. Breakfast is available, though I left too early in the morning to sample it. Overall, it's a decent place to spend a night or two.

Unfortunately the complete experience was ruined by the state of the building. The entire building seemed run down with clear signs of poor upkeep over several years. However, the worst was how dirty everything was. The only reasonable clean thing was the bed and towels. Booked a table for the restaurant, we was seated for all of two minutes before we left , it's a dive , the place is absolutely filthy, stinks , someones old gym bag sat in the restaurant are , no wonder it was dead in there . Absolutely awful , was really awkward telling the bar lady that we actually wasn't going to order in fact we were leaving. Avoid at all costs it's really really dirty !

Shabby and definitely not chic. Mix up with our booking but it was resolved. Room dusty, curtains fell off, no hairdryer over priced for what we got. We did have a meal which was surprisingly good and reasonably priced.

If you are looking for the bland conformity of a wannabe chain hotel, forget this place. If, on the other hand, you appreciate a genuine warm welcome in a historic old railway hotel, in a location perfectly suited for access to nearby electric car chargers, look no further. Clean and comfortable, this was just what we needed on a long journey, and good value too. Thanks to the owner for going out of his way to make our stay a happy one.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is well signposted and easy to find. Parking is directly accessible and free. As for the rooms, they are very clean and equipped with everything you might need: tea, coffee, extra pillows. The beds are very comfortable. The welcome was great — as soon as we arrived, we got our keys without any waiting. Check-in takes place at the bar, which may be surprising, but it’s not an issue. It’s also very well soundproofed. Breakfast was plentiful and absolutely excellent! Homemade with care — it was a real delight!

We stayed at the Balavoulin for two nights with our 6 month old son and had a fabulous time. The dinner and the breakfast were amazing. The staff were very friendly and kind. They did everything to make us feel home. They were so supportive of us during the little one’s nap times. On top of that everything on the menu can be made gluten free - which was my favourite thing about our stay :)

Stopped in for lunch today. Food was fine, but the experience was spoiled when I discovered they had quietly added a 10% “discretionary” service charge to the bill without mentioning it. The only notice is a line in tiny print at the very bottom of the menu — easy to miss unless you go looking for it. When I questioned it, staff argued that I should have known. After some back and forth I got the money refunded, but the attitude was dismissive. I then donated the amount to charity because it was never about the few pounds, it was about principle and transparency. If a restaurant wants to charge a service fee, it should be made clear up front, not hidden in the fine print. I won’t be back, and I’d suggest others check their bills carefully before paying.

I’d probably come to aviemore purely for those nachos… absolutely superb! Never stayed in the hotel unfortunately but I can say for sure that the restaurant is great. Has really changed over the past decades and has really turned a corner. Sometimes you’ll find the Celtic rock band playing, and they’re fab.

Just had a week in Aviemore area and had 2 meals in the Balavoulin on Tuesday we went for our 36th wedding anniversary and had a lovely meal.We started sharing the butterfly king prawns which were well cooked and fresh,I had the davoli pizza and my wife the margarita pizza both were lovely,mine had the perfect heat to it and we shared a bowl of well cooked fat fries .On Friday we shared the hot wings then I had the haddock and chips with garden peas and tartari sauce my wife stuck with the same pizza as she'd enjoyed it so much.The haddock,chips and peaa were superb but the tartare sauce was disappointing a bit thin and tasteless bit it didn't spoil a good meal.The beer was good as was the service.Next time we're in the area we will be back Thank you

Friendly staff serving up great food. Our group of 10 enjoyed pizzas, nachos, burgers, toasties and more. Every plate was clean by the end. Good options for gluten free and vegan, too.

We spend three nights here during our Scotland hiking holiday. The room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable and spacious and the shower tidy. The breakfast menu offers a good choice of meals. We couldn't have breakfast on the last morning because we had to catch a train and the were nice enough to make us something to go. Highly recommend. Great beer garden as well.

Came here this evening with my partner, I must say we were reluctant after reading the reviews. But wanted to try it for ourselves. What a disappointment, the waiter was unhelpful and disinterested when questioned about our mixed starter?? The vegetable pakora was the same as the onion bhaji, just a different shape! The one piece of lamb and chicken each was awful too. Quality of the main course wasn't the best either. Would definitely not recommend it.

I had tried the Garlic Masala and it was absolutely amazing especially with the garlic naan. I would definitely recommend this place to go eat and the staff were very friendly and the food was ready fast!

The waiters were kind and attentive. It was easy to park and close to town. The food was hot and delicious, wonderful flavors. We loved the Tiger dish and mango curry. We left with a lovely chocolate and were happy and full 😁

Upon walking in atmosphere was great well spaced and got seated really fast on some comfy chairs. I ordered a Mixed Chicken Masala alongside a side of rice which came reasonably fast. Dish was unfortunately not as well seasoned as I expected even though I was aware it was mild I was atleast expecting it to have a decent amount of salt. Rice was alright. The protein of the dish was decently cooked my main problem was the sauce having a sandy texture which just killed most of the flavour and enjoyment of the dish. Overall not too bad maybe next time I would just get a different dish.

We booked takeaway curries for a group of 23 and found the staff very helpful. The curries stayed warm and well packed and everyone much enjoyed the evening. Thank you for providing such an excellent evening meal. Oliver

We are in Aviemore for a couple of weeks each year. We make a point of eating here. Food is excellent and service is good and attentive. We will be back next year

Don’t often give bad reviews but this time the disappointment warranted a review. Pakora was awful. Called 20 before collection then waited 30 min for a takeaway that was not freshly prepared. Weird yellow sauce that was inedible.

Poor experience from start to finish: 1 main dish and coffee/ice cream after (for only 4 people out of 14) took from 1915 to 2135. Service was a mess - wrong food brought out to wrong people, with wrong extras on the wrong plates. Meals didn’t match what was on the menu (“courgette” dish was actually aubergine). Staff didn’t know which drinks were available, which foods had allergens and what was or wasn’t available. Portions are small for the high cost. Burger (£20) was brought out dry and on a dirty plate. Coffees arrived after over half an hour and were poorly made, not on saucers and were cold - and there were no spoons or sugar. Desserts were brought with no cutlery to eat them with. We refused to pay for them. Additionally, two servers were going table to table asking if people wanted the dishes they’d brought out - but no table had ordered them. Sadly this wasn’t just our experience, we could hear other guests complaining about the food and service when leaving. Chaotic to say the least…

The food preparation is very poor. We ordered a Caesar salad and Macaroni and Cheese. The Caesar was just greens and bacon bits. The Macaroni and Cheese was burnt macaroni and horribly poor quality cheese. Think twice before eating here.

Very friendly staff and good food, restaurant is cosy and comfortable. Staff helped us with children and getting seated with buggy and high chair. If paying, bit overpriced for what you are served. Food could be more interesting. Also, as locals it would be good to see local prices as in other tourist hotpots this is offered providing repeat custom. All in would visit again and enjoyed our meals.

Regarding dinner, the food was okay, could surely use more options. The portions were small and a bit pricey. Some of the waiters were amazingly polite, others not so much. We dined there on our first night in the hotel, then changed to other restaurants the following nights. The breakfast, on the other hand, was delicious with several options, and the morning staff was very attentive.

I was very disappointed with my experience here. The prawns starter had a strange, unpleasant taste. Basic garlic bread was also bad, and the fish and chips were far from enjoyable. To make matters worse, chips were never brought to the table but still appeared on the bill. The lighting was so poor it made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable. Overall, nothing about this meal felt like a 4-star food experience.

Breakfast - someone said in a comments before they are amazing hmmm don't think so this is just normal breakfast buffet. Dinner - My wife got fishcake and was delicious. My chicken with haggis was cold and in my opinion was under hot lamps far to long waiting for fishcake. Buffet for kids was just all right not great. Staff was trying do all the best for guests but you can notice no experience at all. Overall 3 🌟

Terrible doesn't cover it. Received a rare steak twice sent it back to kitchen and got back a rare steak again. Worst fries ever, so dry i couldn't eat them. WILL NEVER BE CACK.

We have been visiting Aviemore for years but have never tried the Galaxy World Buffet, we did try and phone ahead of time to book a table but it is first come, first served. It was really quiet when we first sat down which was a concern incase the food was cold or had been lying about but it was all warm, well presented with a really large selection... all for us. The restaurant itself is really clean, tidy and modern with the staff being super friendly and down to earth. If you are looking for a traditional buffet restaurant with all the usual favourites, the Galaxy World Buffet has you covered from all angles: starters mains and the best of classic desserts. It isn't your average dark and dingy buffet, its bright and airy with everything fresh and warm, it would be ideal after a day of trekking around the Cairngorms or if you are in a large group and all want to eat at once. It is slightly pricey for what you get but with the ideal location, customer turn over and the business trying to get by it is really worth it. You definitely leave feeling full and feel like it's money well spent!

We walked in and got seated really quickly by a lovely young man who was really polite. However the choice of food was really limited for a buffet, there wasn’t much of selection of anything. Sauces were lumpy and tasteless, meat was dry and overcooked, desserts were not fresh. We paid £75 which would have been reasonable if it was of a decent quality but sadly it wasn’t. Staff were lovely and the seeing is lovely.

Staff were really friendly and helpful especially one young man. Food was ok as we expected, some items were drying out and were quite slow to be replaced. The beef in black bean was really good, all in all it was a good experience with enough choices for everyone.

This is not a ‘world’ buffet. This is a Chinese buffet with two and a half trays of non-Chinese food. (“Carvery”, two types of pasta and chicken korma) The Chicken Korma was more like chicken with korma flavoured water. Half the trays of food were empty and there was not a lot of choice… I paid close to £70 for 2 adults and a toddler and honestly wish I hadn’t bothered.

Very straight to the point and kind service, food was very good especially for a buffet. My personal favourites at the restaurant were the: Chicken Balls, Black Bean Beef, Chow Mein and the Pork Dumplings. The desserts were decent, and you could make your own ice cream with toppings.

This place is the pits. We entered at around 19.40 and the opening greeting was, "We are closing soon, so there might not be a lot of food left". So I went and had a look and thought we'll there's probably enough left for us. However, once we had selected our starters, the staff started removing some of the food troughs. Thus limiting our choice and volume. During the entire meal this continued, making us feeling unwanted and uncalled. The staff seemed totally driven to empty the place and get home. They even seemed to relish in pressurising you and making you feel uncomfortable. Worst dining experience in my 70 years of life. Summarised...place is crap, staff are crap, food is crap, price is crap. Just crap.

Me and my family have been coming to Aviemore for three years now and this was the best thing to do on the last day we were here the food tasted amazing and we had some doubts because we read some reviews online that weren’t very good but they were all lies because this was some of the best food ever We’d like to thank all the staff that helped us this evening you were all very kind and sweet the food was great (and so was the mocktail😉)

We had lunch at Cafe Bistro on our way to the Highlands. We ordered an omelette, soup, Haggis Frikkadels, and an amazing steak sandwich (which I unfortunately forgot to take a photo of). The steak was incredibly tender. But the highlight of our meal was the lovely couple who run the place. They were incredibly nice and friendly, making us feel right at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be returning.

The food was amazing! Great service too! We stopped in as we were doing laundry at the laundrette down the road while on holiday, and we couldn’t have picked anywhere better to eat! Everything was fresh made and so delicious!

Excellent food. Salmon and sides were amazing. Service was friendly. Highly recommend.

Brilliant little restaurant with fantastic food! Booked for our second night in Kingussie and very glad we did - they only open for dinner on Friday/Saturday, it's very small and three couples came in and were turned away while we were there! They are not licenced so bring your own wine etc. - no corkage charge! We had three courses each mixed from the normal and special menus - everything was extremely tasty and well cooked and very reasonably priced too. Great service throughout too - we left very full and happy!!

Wow! Visited this little restaurant last Friday night (26 Sep) it’s absolutely fabulous. It is very small but plenty of room for the number of guests seated. We had a party of 8 and had plenty of room. Only two staff, chef and waitress, but they manage just fine with no obvious stress or hassle. The food is exceptional, one of our party who eats out a lot said it was the best meal they’d had out for a long time. Almost all of us had three courses with the bill only coming to £220. No alcohol is served but they are more than happy for you take your own drinks and happily provide extra glasses. I can’t really praise this little restaurant enough, the food, the atmosphere and the staff are just superb. Thank you Cafe Bistro for providing a lovely evening

Wow.. That was a 10 outta 10. I'm actually writing the review while I'm still at the restaurant, couldn't wait to go back and write one. That's definitely a fine dining experience, the quality of the food and the presentation is outstanding. The portions are great too, value for money is great 👍. I would easily make the trip just for the food. Well done chef

My husband and I were very happy during our 3 night stay at the Cross. Joe and Sarah were welcoming hosts with a clear passion and knowledge for their craft. Immensely charming atmosphere with very comfortable rooms. Our dining experiences were second to none and have left us with wonderful memories of food, friends, and fun we will always cherish. We'll make a special point of revisiting the Cross during our next trip to Scotland.

Went for a nice midweek dinner at a personally recommended local restaurant. We are reasonably new to the area, and what with lockdowns and kids, haven't had a night out for a good meal in a while. I am so glad we had dinner at The Cross. New ownership meant that we were there on re-opening night. Party of four, and we were taken care of beautifully. We had the three course menu (and will be back for the 6-course tasting menu). Exquisitely cooked lamb (me) and venison (in-laws), excellent wine selections and fine coffee to finish. The service was excellent and we didn't feel rushed at all. It was nice to take a moment to enjoy a really good dinner. Looked like a good selection of malts too - sadly I was driving so they'll have to wait for another time, but we'll be back soon.

We were here on a private Scotland round trip in June 2015 - and we loved the place. It seems to be a family run hotel, and we found it to be very charming and ambitious. It's set a bit off the main road, amidst trees and a creek running down right behind the house. Lovely setting. Our room was spacious and clean and decorated with taste, perfectly sized. The window looks right down to the creek, which was beautiful and relaxing. Of course, the main attraction here is the restaurant. We had dinner on two nights, and were very pleased. I think the place absolutely lives up to its reputation. All in all I'd give it four honest stars.

This is an excellent, small hotel and restaurant. The building is unassuming on the outside, but beautifully decorated on the inside, with a lovely restaurant and lounge on the ground floor and a residents' lounge and bedrooms above. Food is of the highest standard, and those with special dietary requirements are catered for with ease - in my case the chef had produced a special gluten- and dairy-free menu - so I didn't feel I missed out on any of the experience. The service was excellent and had that personal touch of a top-notch small hotel. The rooms are a good size and well-equipped, as are the bathrooms. Those overlooking the river are particularly recommended, and the sound of the water makes for a good night's rest.

Beautiful restaurant, welcoming staff and impeccable service. dining at the cross felt like visiting family. The Post-lockdown hospitality we received was fully appreciated. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing, exquisitely cooked and prepared local meats , not only the meat and fish, but vegetables also were cooked and served to perfection. The knowledge of wine by the staf was impressive and each course was accompanied by a carefully chosen wine from regions around the world. Small touches like home-made bread and perfectly prepared appetizers complemented the meal. Finishing the meal with a local whiskey was a perfect end to the experience. Absolutely the finest restaurant in the Spey Valley.

Fantastic quality food and service in a beautiful little restaurant. The staff are very attentive and took great care to ensure special dietary requirements were met. We had the tasting menu with paired wine, which was delicious. The food was locally sourced where possible and presented beautifully.

This was a lovely place to stay. The building was beautiful and full of so many interesting oranemts, art and furniture. Our room as spotless and we were provided with everything you could imagine needing. Breakfast was soo good, although I opted for a cooked breakfast, there were loads of cereal, fresh fruit salad and other bits. We were given a selection of freshly baked pastries and the freshly squeezed orange juice was perfect. Joe was a lovely and intriguing man with such a calm energy, someone I could have talked to for ages. I would certainly stay again.

5 stars go to the staff at this place. The manager is just the happiest man alive, couldn't be any nicer to his customers and deserves a medal. Outstanding customer service, you leave here with a smile on your face. His energy rubs off on the rest of the staff, they are brilliant too.

Usually there is no point reviewing the fast food chains !! the quality of food remains the same. However, this one just stands out--purely due to customer service. The people working there are probably the best and nicest people working in the service industry. I had an amazing conversation with frank, and others, and they made me happy!.

Possibly the greatest Subway on this planet! We went today and were overwhelmed by the service received by Frank and his colleague. We were charmed and blown away with the high customer service standard in which we received. Keep up the outstanding work!

Popped in to try the new VEGAN SUB. It has been so popular so we had to try and it did not disappoint! The veggie patty was delicious— such a fantastic meat alternative! Our sandwich artist, Frank, was extremely friendly and upbeat— best customer service I’ve ever had at a Subway! Thanks, Subway, for carrying a vegan sub. I look forward to seeing what other fabulous vegan options you can come up with!

Frank and the staff are great, best service and great interaction with the customers. Fabulous with the kids and knows locals well. Not many seats in Aviemore branch but worth eating in just to hear the staff/customer patter. Five stars not enough for this branch.

I can honestly say the workers here provide the best service I have ever had. I eat in a lot of subways but this is by far the cleanest, freshest and friendliest one i have ever had the delight to dine in. One of the sandwich artists, a middle aged man with a beaming smile on his face, is always polite. Treats his customers like friends. Recommend highly :) Mark roasting

This has got to be best run subway in UK. Always spotlessly clean. Staff are great and you are always sure of good friendly service. Sandwiches always consistently made. Other subway locations in Highlands could learn alot from here.

We had an unfortunate experience at this establishment. We were hoping to enjoy a nice lunch, but there were no staff available to assist us. After waiting for 15 minutes without being offered even a drink, we decided it was best to leave.

I don't understand how it can be called a steakhouse when it only has two different steak options. The sirloin steak I got tasted okay but definitely not worth the money and not cooked as I would expect for a steakhouse. Go elsewhere for steak. The food my family got was okay too, nothing better than that ... and again not worth the money.

For the second year running when we turned up for our table they couldn’t find our reservation. The restaurant manager just wanted to argue with us, but finally agreed to seat us. It was only 6.30pm and although one large group had finished their meal there was only two other tables in use, and it advertises as open till 10pm. Was disappointed with the menu as it advertises itself as a steakhouse there is only one steak on the menu, it was however cooked lovely but the rest of the food appeared to be frozen.

Having read all the bad reviews we avoided this place when staying at the Spey Valley resort. However, we were starving and just wanted somewhere on site, fast. To our surprise it was actually very tasty and cooked to perfection.. when we arrived there was only 1 table in but we were told there was a table of 10 due to might be a wait as only 1 chef (on a sat night) . We ordered before they arrived and we got our food quick enough. Waitresses were lovely too. If anything.. a wee bit of rock salt on the steak wouldn’t go a miss.

Booked through the website for 5.30. We were staying at the other MacDonalds hotel, so eventually we discovered where the steakhouse was located. Given other comments and as we have a disabled daughter I decided while on a cycle to drop in past and check the reservation. Met with a sulky employee who took me into the restaurant and looked up the bookings and told me we didn’t have a booking despite me showing him our confirmation email!!! He said basically tough luck, and with staff shortages I can’t book you in. I decided I couldn’t be bothered with him so left. If that’s the attitude before you arrive, perhaps just as well we didn’t go. Looked a bit of a cold barn tbh, had a fabulous meal at the Cairngorm Hotel brilliant staff excellent food.

Brilliant food! I have a lovely dinner for two here with my wife. The menu is quite small but when the rib eye is as good as this, why does it need to be bigger?! The sides were great and the portion sizes of the chips fantastic. Great service too, going out of their way to find a bottle of wine for us. Couldn’t recommend more.

A café with a modern vibe, nicely decorated and combining a varied menu with vegetarian options with a gifts shop with local souvenirs and produce. The food is nice, plenty of cakes to choose from and more than generous portions. Service was correct.

It’s a lovely little cosy place that offers hearty meals. They have a vast menu to choose from offering breakfast and main course options. Staff is very helpful and friendly. There’s a lovely gift and souvenirs section at the restaurant as well.

Stopped as we were on route site seeing & wanted a quick breakfast. Was allowed in with our dog too. Had run out of pancakes & only had 1 serving left so guessing they’re popular 🙂 it is order & pay at the till but food brought to your table. Lovely fresh food & quaint little shop to.

Much needed stop on the drive from Inverness to Scone... rest places are few and far between on the A9 so this slight detour was perfect. I had a toasted sandwich and a coffee which was hot, fresh and tasty. The staff were really friendly and out meals were prepared very quickly. Easy on street parking if it's early in the day. Close to a co-op for provisions if you're on a road trip. :)

We stopped here for a bite while travelling on the basis of good reviews and being dog friendly. We were not disappointed.....we had bagels which were delicious! The various bakes looked lovely, although we didnt have room (or time) to sample. Great service! Recommend a visit

The food was good the staff were really friendly. When we came here it was just starting to get busy as we got seated. When the waiter took our order's he laughed when I ordered the chicken tikka madras and warned me it was really spicy. When the food arrived I tried the madras and my honest opinion I've had spicier chow meins and curries than this. The food was cooked good but not what I expected.

Lovely restaurant with a view to the train station - family run so great vibes and service, food portions are massive - we had the kofta and charcoal chicken shish flavoured well. Chocolate fudge cake with an enormous portion size (fed three of us)! Less than 45 pound for 2 adults and 2 kids - great value

We went for lunch around 2 pm. Felt Aviemore doesn't have many lunch places, most of them are closed. It's hard to find vegetarian options in Pub. Anyway, this definitely is a hidden gem- good options for starters and mains. Portion size is big , but they are expensive too, probably the supply is from big town far away so all costs add up.

We popped in to Charcoal on a spur of the moment for our evening meal staying locally at the Glenmore campsite. The service was extremely friendly and the food delicious we both opted for the kofte. The railway decor was quirky and much appreciated.

Food was amazing, staff are lovely. Every table was full and too right! This place is amazing.

Most of the food is halal, except the lasagne. Free parking is available on the left side. The food was good but too oily.

Charcoal is the kind of restaurant I would travel miles to enjoy, we visit Aviemore two/three times a year and always fit a Charcoal into the mix. It was my other half's birthday and Azim went above and beyond to make her night one to remember. Charcoal is the perfect restaurant for all the family, they have a wide variety of Turkish, Indian and British meals all in one but I would recommend the chicken/lamb shish... you won't regret it. The portions are really generous and filling which is perfect after a day of adventuring around the Cairngorms, the staff are always so friendly and service is always so quick. I cant say a bad word about Charcoal Aviemore, it really is one of those places you leave and feel like you are in need of a good nap. It definitely is value for money! Thank you again to Azim & the team for going above and beyond, we will see you soon.

Brilliant stay! Would highly recommend. We stayed two nights and ate dinner in the restaurant twice. The room was spacious and had a charming traditionally Scottish feel, but with a fully modern, refurbished bathroom (and a superb shower). Very comfy beds and what impressed us was that even though it was August, it was really cold outside (7 degrees!) and so the hotel had the heating on. So we were warm and felt very much at home. The food was also excellent. It’s very traditional and the dishes are simple but delicious. The steak pie was spot on, and the deserts were all perfect. The dining room was packed every night we were there but we never felt rushed. A great pace of service. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

We stumbled upon the Balavil Hotel after Storm Amy blew away our plans, and it turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip! We arrived exhausted after hours of driving and were greeted so warmly. Dinner was amazing-comfort food that reminded us of our grandmothers’ cooking. The staff were friendly, professional, and even had live music in the bar. Cozy rooms, great atmosphere, and genuine hospitality. I’ll definitely be staying here again should I make it to Scotland again and will always remember the comfort and kindness we experienced at the Balavil Hotel.

Fantastic. I was staying at another hotel up the road. And booked dinner here after a bit of a let down elsewhere. This place was highly recommended by a friend already staying here. I was welcomed at the door by management. Taken to my table. I looked thru a lovely menu. And specials board . My meal was 110% . So much so I booked every night for the rest of the week. I stayed the Wednesday night . Rooms were great . I had a good sleep. Followed by a great breakfast to start the day . I can't compliment the place and especially the staff enough . A singer one night was great . A large dining room. Bar. Plus a small room to the back with a bar and tv . A real hidden gem of a place . I'd not hesitate to come here again . Thank you so much .

Have stayed at this hotel several times both by myself and with the family while visiting the area and highly recommend it. Rooms are clean, friendly service and amazing variety of food. Very friendly staff that are always welcoming.

My husband and I stopped here on our camping trip and asked for a hotel room since there was a major storm that day with high winds. They did not have any vacancies but the lady who was working there went out of her way to call around and find a place for us to stay for the night. We also had drinks there and met some really lovely people. Really wonderful service and we are very grateful! If we ever go back to Scotland we will be booking a room there. 😊

We are staying in the village and we arrived early with our dogs. We asked if we could bring them in and were allowed in the back bar. We had a couple of drinks and were made to feel very welcome…we got taking about Shinty and were invited to the game. We enjoyed the game and had a drink with the coach..we returned for food and we were not disappointed. Great tips about whiskey from the hotel staff. We’ll be going back again. Highly recommended

Our room was very small, we could not fit in two carry on suitcaces, the aur was not moving at all. Beds were fine, bathroom ok. Breakfast was quite weak. But it is area where is quite hard to find something. Dinners were excellent. 10/10

Great value for set meal 2. Lots of tasty food. Garlic rice is quite strong so it might be worth swapping out but otherwise can’t fault it.

We got some very authentic, home-like food from Mehmood - who was also very kind to advise us on the best sellers. The dal tadka was especially really good!

My wife and I went to insh loch to go kayaking. We had a wonderful time . After we decided to go to the restaurant for some food. We read different things about it so we thought we would try it out ourselves. Have to say not much choice for food but the location is amazing. The price of food is a bit high for what it was. There is a bar there but I'm not sure about the price. Some of the staff could learn to smile a little. It is the little things that make a difference. Would I go back? sadly not for the food. For Location, for kayaking, swimming, and the beauty of the surroundings.

Dropped in here as it appeared to be a lovely restaurant on a beautiful loch. It was in a lovely picturesque position, waitress duly took us to a table for lunch and we both ordered the boathouse burger which we had seen outside on the menu. When the food arrived it looked delicious, however when we started eating it it was very obvious that there was very little meat content in the burger and in fact tasted like one of the highly processed ‘burger van’ type. While eating it oozed and dripped out fat onto the table and plate and certainly did not live up to the price tag offered on the menu of £15.95. We did not complain, merely noted that we would not return to this establishment and went to pay the bill (neither of us finished our meal). When we went to the member of staff to pay the bill there were no pleasantries, or even courteous manners, she just held out the pay machine. I paid the bill and asked for a receipt as it seemed a little more expensive than expected. She gave a huff and walked off to get the receipt. I studied the receipt outside and we had been charged £17.50 for each burger which was even more of an insult when the food had been shocking and the price on the menu was £15.95. Ok so the difference of £1.55 each is not a lot but this is not on. We were not offered a receipt at the time of paying and now I understand why, they are basically ripping people off after serving sub-standard food. I hope this review helps others when choosing to eat here.

Great food, only outmatched by their great service. Great to have a place like this when you've come back from sports or hiking to revitalise you. I got that duck in the gift shop because it's cute and as you can tell, the breakfast was generous and delicious.

At 11.30 too early for lunch and too late for even a bacon roll. The ambience of beautiful Loch Insh was totally spoiled during our walk and restaurant visit by the unpleasantly loud noise from high powered model aircraft being flown from the shoreline. I won't be back soon.

Arrived at 9.59am and missed the full breakfast (kitchen shuts at 10am so fully understandable), and was offered a roll which could be filled with anything left over from the breakfast buffet.... but then they said I could help myself to the leftovers to create a full breakfast, which was very tasty and much welcomed after I'd just finished a 2 hour hike! They even gave me a discount as not everything that typically comes with the full breakfast was available. Top notch customer service and very friendly. Oh, and a lovely cup of latte too.

Such a calming place to have some hot food and drinks. As the restaurant located by the Loch Insh, the view was stunning as we visited and stay for sunset viewing. You may want to do some activities there but it was limited during Winter and plenty of choices during Summer I suppose. There is also a place to stay there if you prefer to do so. In the restaurant I ordered Mac and Cheese with Garlic Bread which was nice. Falafel & Hummus Panini was so so good, crispy panini, sweet and savory of the sauce from caramelized red onion. Not to mention the hot chocolate with cream on the top, a perfect winter drink. Make a stop and stay for a while, you won’t regret it!

Fantastic stop for coffee, tea, beer and cake this afternoon. We sat outside with a lovely view over the Loch.

A fantastic meal at Delaney’s. We ordered a selection of smaller plates and each one was delicious. The fish cakes in particular were a standout, the flavour in the sauce was incredible. Service was great and the staff were all very friendly. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and we will be back on our next trip to Aviemore

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The staff were welcoming and attentive and the food was the best we had in 2 weeks in Scotland. It was an interesting menu and all the dishes were slightly different to what you would normally expect but incredibly tasty with generous portions. The bonus was that they were super welcoming of dogs and had sausages on the dog menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our evening.

Exceptional restaurant! The quality of the food was outstanding. The concept is small dishes to share, but the portions are both generous and high quality. We chose a charcuterie board, smoked haddock fish cakes, venison, carrot and potato filo parcel and mussels with sides of broccoli, Parmesan fries and heritage beets. All were the most delicious flavours. Plenty of food for four people to share. The staff were friendly and professional. Good selection of wines and beers. A great place to enjoy outstanding food if you are in Avimore.

Outstanding food! I recently dined at Delaney's Restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious—full of flavour and perfectly prepared. The portions were generous, so my husband and I decided to order five different dishes to share, and everything was spot on. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere made for a really enjoyable evening. If you're looking for a place with great food and great service, I highly recommend it. Had an amazing experience here food was delicious. Some of the best I have had for a long time. Size of the dishes were explained very well my wife and I had 3 dishes with a side of the fries and a pudding each which was just the right amount for us. Service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We are already planning our next visit to try some more of the dishes.

The best food we had in Schotland. If you want to eat really good, reserve here. No boring fish/chips, curry or other filling food. No...very tastefull shared food, small portions for a decent price. The owner promised me that fish/chips will never be on the menu.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. The hotel has a beautiful, classic charm — from the exterior to the lobby, it really gives off those timeless, elegant vibes. However, once you're inside, it becomes clear that the place really needs some renovation or repair. The floors were incredibly squeaky, to the point where it was hard to get a peaceful night's sleep. It's a lovely place with potential, but definitely in need of some upkeep to match its charm with comfort.

From the moment I arrived unannounced and asked after the availability of rooms, the staff could not have been more welcoming. Aaron particularly was friendly, attentive, and gave me a lovely room at a very reasonable rate, so much so that I decided to book for a second night. The food, both breakfast and evening meals was fantastic, compliments to the chef. It felt like you were in a murder mystery set in a creaky old hotel - but it was real life. The first issue came when 2 days before my arrival they double charged me for my booking. After various calls/emails/direct conversations I finally got my money back a week later. Parking was chaotic - there’s a large wrap around driveway but it is a bit of a free for all of leave your car wherever. When we arrived the staff were friendly, although gave us the wrong directions to our room so we had to do an additional maze of hallways. The room was a fair size and the beds were comfortable - although very strangely made up: the bottom sheet barely came to the head of the bed, leaving the mattress exposed, but there was an extra 3ft of sheet at the foot of the bed, so we had to remake them ourselves. Our room was right on a landing next to a staircase and had absolutely no soundproofing to the horrendously creaky floorboards and stairs, as well as the sounds of the Icelandic coach tour group lugging their suitcases down from 6am. The bathroom was an experience- it was basically a small cupboard with a sliding door that didn’t fully close, so for a twin room you better hope you’re very close with your room buddy. The shower itself was an electric shower, the pressure wasn’t great but the temperature was fine. Sadly it was in some kind of plastic coffin with no light, so it felt a bit claustrophobic, glad I’m only 5ft 5. The shower curtain was also hooked on in a way that meant it didn’t fully slide open, so you had to awkwardly manoeuvre in and out. Breakfast was pleasant, attentive staff and the most modern fixtures and fittings in the building. Overall the hotel is very dated, but it was a comfortable bed for the night and was the cheapest available we could find in the area. Finally - if you’re after a pint, go to the Garth hotel bar down the road as a pint of lager was £1.2 0 cheaper than at the Craiglynne bar.

I had one of the worst experiences at the Craiglynne Hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. From the moment we arrived, everything felt disorganized. There were no clear directions to the room numbers,completely random and confusing. For the price we paid, I expected at least basic comfort and service, but what we got was far below standard. The bathroom flush didn’t work at all, and the shower was almost impossible to use. The temperature control was terrible,either scalding hot or freezing cold, with no middle ground. On top of that, the window in our room seemed like it was from the 18th century: jammed, stuck, and impossible to open or close properly. The entire atmosphere made it feel like we were staying in some old haunted hotel rather than a place meant for guests. To make things worse, after checkout, we realized we had left a North Face jacket in the wardrobe. When we called, the staff told us they could return it by Royal Mail if we paid £30. We agreed, paid, and were promised a tracking number,but that tracking number never arrived. It’s now been over a month, and we still haven’t received the jacket. Not only did we lose the jacket, but also the £30 we paid them. If returning the item wasn’t possible, they should never have charged us. Overall, everything about this hotel was a disappointment: broken facilities, unhelpful service, and dishonesty regarding lost property. I would give zero stars if I could. Definitely not worth the price, and I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

Having paid extra for a superior room we were extremely disappointed to be given a room in the attic with no TV , 3 pillows on the double bed with a cushion behind one to make it appear like 4 and a damp patch on the wall (a very basic room ) The menu for dinner was very poor and it was only when we asked for a vegetarian option we were given a different menu which was a bit better . The most disappointing aspect of the overnight stay was that apparently there was no management available on either the Saturday night or Sunday morning to discuss our grievances which I find hard to believe so I ended up £40 out of pocket thanks to expecting a better standard of room . Very very poor service

The bed was comfortable and clean and the room was dark so I got a good nights sleep which was the main thing for me. It does need a refurb but I think that was reflected in the cost so I can’t complain. The shower was good and it’s nice they provided plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits in the room which you don’t always get. The kettle might need changing though as the coffee tasted really odd. I would advise getting down to breakfast between 7 and 7.45 as when I went down at 8.15 all the bread for toast was gone and orange juice depleted because of all the coach tours leaving early. There was plenty of other food though and they eventually brought some more bread out so you would be fine. I would stay again as it had a nice sociable and spacious vibe and the location was great opposite the forest park and a short walk into town, but there are some things that need to be addressed.

This is a beautiful hotel. The foyer, bar and resteraunt are lovely. The staff are really amazing, very helpful and friendly. The rooms are a little dated but are very clean and comfortable. We had breakfast which was a, really good, buffet style breakfast. The town is lovely, it has great walks and cycle routes and has lots of places to eat and drink. Grantown on Spey is a great base to explore the highlands. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here.

Absolutely delicious Thai takeaway and restaurant—so good I even ate the courgette in the green curry (and I never eat courgette). Everything was super fresh and clearly made with love. Friendly service too! Next time: sit-down meal, courgettes and all!

Small place accessed from the main entrance of the hotel. Get in early or book as it fills up fast. All food was very nice, spicy and very tasty. The cook is taking care not to over cook food and the effort shows. I enjoyed all of my food and even delicate flavours were there and coming though. Recommended for a tasty and enjoyable dinner.

A lovely little restaurant on the High Street in Grantown. The place was buzzing when we went! The food was delicious and lots of it too! Service was great and the atmosphere was really good.

Such a nice place with amazing Thai food! We went twice when visiting the highlands because it was so good. At the 2nd night they hosted a group of 48 people and the service + food was still outstanding (especially the duck pancakes are a must!). Highly recommend!

Probably our 7th time here for dine in or takeaway since they opened along the road in the hotel. Food is always outstanding and service cannot be faulted, looking forward to returning!

Dropped by after completing a walk last Sunday or a pint. Visually stunning establishment with ample seating outside. Found out that they offer a carvery on Sundays, unfortunately had already eaten so just stopped for a pint of coke. Pagoda is a smart place to visit and lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by. What I did not like is there is only one alcohol beverage that is on tap, everything else is bottles and cans. In summary, I will definitely go back for a carvery when next passing the area.

Been going to The Avenue for coffee and cake or lunch a couple of times a week, as love the place. Always a warm welcome from Ian, Elizabeth and all the staff, with our dog loving the attention he gets too. Chef Rodney makes amazing sausage rolls and pies, often taken home for dinner, in addition to his Neptune Pizza, the best pizza I’ve ever eaten! Menu changes regularly and always have specials on. Can’t fault the Sunday lunch or the theme night menus and it’s licensed, so only a short crawl back home after.

We had a delicious meal on Friday at this restaurant now named 'The Avenue '. The ' Kitchen' Pie (steak and ale this evening) was fabulous. Perfectly cooked beef plus a separate jug of gravy. We also had the Chicken Milanese which was equally delicious. Lovely venue and great service. Would recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit again when in the area.

Delicious food, the soup was particularly tasty. Excellent friendly service, stayed open late to serve us but no rush to close. Great gluten free options. Thoroughly recommended.

Dropped in today while staying at the Grantown on spey carivan site very welcoming for ourselves and our dog great staff had a few drinks and got some takeaway food which was excellent as was the selection on the menu. Will definitely be in the future.

Loved the Pagoda, was expecting an Asian menu but was pleasantly surprised to have more of a homely, cosy food and spoilt for choice. The owner, chef and wait staff made us feel very welcome and would definitely return if we made it back to the region.

I had the chicken chow mein, the crispy won tons and the chicken with ginger and spring onion. All very impressed. Not greasy and the front of the shop is nice and clean.

Yea very happy chicken balls very crisp and the beef curry very flavourful chips crispy on outside fluffy in the inside only thing that was mid was the rice but still good and to top it all off given free prawn crackers and that’s top notch

First visit and we were very impressed.... Fabulous breakfasts! Full breakfast is one of the best cooked I have had in ages with everything just right... The avocado on sourdough is really tasty too. Welcome was great and staff friendly. We were in early, so easily seated. Worth phoning ahead if you are in a big group as there is not much they can do if they are already busy..... they really want to look after you so make it easy for them! Would recommend and we are going back!

Had the baked potato and was really disappointed, not with the filling, that was ok, as you can see from the pictures it was also burnt and totally inedible, disappointed as I was really hungry.. It wasn't white and fluffy like a baked potato normally is, it was yellow and tasted like ones that have been reheated from the day before, also over half of the skin was burnt and totally inedible.. the only reason I ate as much as I did is because I was absolutely ravenous, luckily both the filling and side salad were good, but the potato itself let the whole meal down.. I'd expected better from somewhere like this, as the prices are quite high for a day old reheated badly burnt spud.. and be prepared to pay a lot here too for any meal, most meals&drinks work out at around £15-20 for adults and £10 for kids.. so a family of 4 can easily pay over £50

Been in here a couple times now first time got the burger a couple of weeks ago, this time got avocado and eggs on toast with bacon, owner is friendly and chatty and the food was really nice a tad expensive for sitting in however can't fault the food & atmosphere busy wee place. Food 5 Atmosphere 5 Price 3.8/5 Experience 5 Overall rating I'd say 5 personally.

Bought apple cinnamon flapjack for takeaway. No prices shown on counter and found out when paying it was £5.25. Ouch. Lovely taste, great location. Unfortunately we are here for the week but can't justify that sort of price for a tray bake. Would have returned for more had the prices been better. Hope this is useful feedback.

Nice looking place from the outside and the interior is nice. Decent coffee and service good, but it's all severely let down by the quality of the cooking and the use of cheap ingredients (we went in for cooked breakfast). They need to get a decent cook in the kitchen.

I little gem of a bistro not far from the Old Packhorse bridge. The soup and sandwiches were delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommended.

My Partner needed the toilet, whilst I was driving from Inverness to Broughty Ferry. When she politely asked if she could use the convenience, she was told Customers only, so after using the toilet. She ordered 2 Coffee, s (which could have put in a thimble) If this is Highland Hospitality. Then keep it up the price for said coffees was £6. My advice to anyone who may be caught short. Just hang on, and I would Highly recommend Ralia where the toilets are free and the service etc is welcoming UNLIKE The Cafe Aroma in Kingussie. I would avoid this establishment at all costs. .

We had an excellent lunch here, and the kids enjoyed a ride on the miniature railway. The dining car restaurant was really good. We had pizza (I had the Highland Games pizza), soup and sandwiches, and everything was very tasty and came in good portions. It was good value for money. Definitely worth stopping off if you’re passing by. We booked a few days in advance having seen good reviews previously. Worth having a walk round the small museum area too.

This place is full of nostalga. I was glad I booked a table as it was quite busy but then it was Easter Monday. It is quite special to have your lunch is an old refurbished railway carriage. We went for the nine inch pizza and it was a big helping. Thankfully you can take it home if you do not finish it which is what we did. The staff were very friendly and attentive. There is plenty parking and you can sit outside on the benches on a fine day. There is also a heritage/souvenir shop which is worth a visit. One final thing there are toilets and the staff will give you the key. It was a great experience and if you are a train enthuiast it is a must visit.

Fantastic find! Our son is Coeliac so needed to check if they did GF. From the moment I messaged them, they were on the ball and answered me straight back with a description of how they avoid cross contamination. We booked immediately. The setting, service and pizzas were amazing. We could see how they handled the GF pizza. Haggis on a pizza is a must try. My son asked if they good make him a GF puddin' pizza (yep, they have them on the menu) and Chef Colin whipped up a special one just for him. Lovely people, great fun and fantastic food. 😀😀😀🍕🍮

Fantastic pizza and great venue. A lot of hard work has gone into to this place. Whilst the shop was classy it was aimed at the top end and and own branded items, nice but it lacked a lot of charm that more local craft and produce might bring. Huge bespoke picnic tables for the summer looked great. Mini railway is quite unique... should do a mini santa express and take kids to a grotto maybe? :) massive area could be used for events, lots of potential... but it needs something more there to keep you there longer.

Fantastic Railway themed station and restaurant, including authentic 1930s restaurant car which you can dine in. Always outdoor events on, on this day vintage cars, tractors, miniature steam traction engines and other agricultural memorabilia. I visited with other modern classics motorcyclists, fantastic day had by all.

Very lovely and scenic, awesome food it can be quite high priced but is worth it in the end. Lovely pizzas and soups and very stylish dinning area personally best pizza I've had in years.

Stopped by for a snack at lunch time when traveling west.something a bit different eating in a railway carriage by the roadside. Inviting, pleasant and professional service by catering team. The two of us had soup and sweet which were very enjoyable and I had to take a photo of the quirky desserts we had. Pleased we stopped for lunch and will sure return when passing by next time. Exceptional outdoor dining found by chance. I would highly recommend visiting the restaurant for the best local food experience, excellent customer service and great atmosphere. Try cherry tea and the pudding at the end. It’s a very beautiful area, so definitely worth exploring and stopping for a dinner or lunch here.

Brilliant concept of delicious local produce which is made into a selection of excellent sharing dishes created by Chef, James. They are innovative, tasty and varied. Service is great led by Host, Luke and the view is amazing. Blankets and a fire pit keep you warm when the weather is poor but the food, the ambience and the location make you forget the rain. Would definitely recommend.

This place is AMAZING!! The food is absolutely delicious, so tasty, and the hosts just the best. We had such a brilliant evening. We’ll be back next year when we’re here on holiday again. What a great little place, just outside of town. We had a great Sunday lunch, in such a relaxed atmosphere, with attentive but gentle service. I hadn't appreciated that you don't get to choose from a menu, instead food just comes to the table, and it's epic. From beautiful salads, to home reared meat with tasty toppings, I could fault nothing. Comfortable seats, beautiful crockery and table settings, stunning flowers, large table so you don't feel cramped with your dining companions. I could go on, and I can't wait to go back.

Amazing outdoors setting.. Great welcome and views across the Spey Valley to the hills opposite. A very tasty variety of meat and veg dishes... couldn't manage to fit in the pudding though! Blankets were welcome even on a sunny afternoon

A table with a view! This is the best meal we've had in our area for a very, very long time. You sit, drink, relax and admire the view whilst food just appears and absolutely every bit is delicious and texture combinations amazing. We left very full, very satisfied and in complete awe at the chefs skill. We cannot wait to go back!

Stumbled upon this spot and was blown away by their loaded fries – especially the pulled pork option which was packed with flavour and super satisfying. The toppings were generous, and the fries were crispy and golden. What really stood out was the wide variety of sauces on offer – from garlic mayo and sweet chilli to mango chutney – all adding their own unique twist to the meal. The surrounding area adds to the experience – peaceful and scenic, perfect for sitting outdoors and enjoying a relaxed bite. Great food in a lovely setting – highly recommend if you’re nearby!

The Legend of Gary Continues 6 months ago I discovered the Coyote Cook house and met the man, the legend, Gary. I was travelling north and took a small(ish) diversion off the A9 in order to have a meal that I knew would be enough to count as breakfast, lunch and dinner, therefore a necessary stop when driving for over six hours. Under an unusually warm September sun, there it was. The Coyote Cook House, just as I remembered it, and there he was, Gary. Gary, somehow, remembered us and gave us a warm welcome back. I ordered a chicken burger with a side of mac and cheese and my friend ordered the dirty burger with a side of fries. The food left us floored, as usual. Generous portions and a meal so delightfully flavourful that for ten minutes everything seemed right in the world. All story telling aside, I was incredibly happy to see Gary again and to enjoy another meal there. One issue I struggle with, relating to my autism, is eating. It feels like a chore and although I enjoy the taste of some foods, I don’t feel happy about eating or experience satisfaction from it. Garys cooking is the only food I’ve eaten in 27 years that has positively impacted me and made me happy. One reason I wanted to revisit was not only to eat here again but to say thank you to Gary in person for showing me that eating can be an enjoyable experience. Colleagues and friends have all heard of the Legend of Gary and the tales of the Coyote Cook House and know exactly where to go if they are ever in the area. I will always pop in for good food and great patter when travelling nearby. Thank you for another great food experience. Gary you remain a legend! - Steph

The pulled pork loaded fries were delicious. A hefty portion for £11, the pork was tender and the fries were crisp, an excellent dinner indeed!

We went to the Coyote Cook House food tryck in August and ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Burger, Dirty Burger, Philly Cheese Steak Sub, and Cheesey fries. The food was excellent - fresh, well-cooked, and flavourful. The menu had a range of options of the burger/dog/fries variety. The prices were very reasonable, especially for the quality Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There is plenty of parking and access to toilets. I would highly recommend this location and have flagged it on my map for a return trip.

WOW! An absolute belter of a find on our journey through Aviemore! Cayote cookhouse just blew us away. If we’re ever in the area again we will definitely be returning. The food was cooked to perfection and seasoned extremely well! The (@coffee.at.dalraddy) ‘next-van’ is also 10/10.

The guys were very friendly. Wasn’t expecting to have food from here but after seeing the menu and the friendly faces we changed our mind. We had milkshakes, chicken burgers and mac and cheese. Good quality food for the money. And the chips are the best chips I’ve tasted and very much like KFC chips which are my favourite. Thanks guys, you were the cherry on top for daughter’s birthday.

Absolutely disgusting food . Had a kebab didn't have the salad as it looked weeks old and the kebab had been microwaved yuk. Couldn't eat it , it was very pricey for what it was .

I can't recommend you don't go here enough. You have seen the other reviews saying avoid... Take heed! If you like kebabs - Don't come here. If you like not being stuck in your hotel room as you can't be more than 10ft away from the bathroom - don't come here. It's been over a week and my insides are still trying to be on my outsides and I shudder at the "K" word. £65 for 4 of us for some truly undescribable, can't really call it meat of a known origin, plate of something. You should genuinely not go here. Even if you are starving and have exhausted every other place in Aviemore. Honestly some health board needs to step in and close this down.

Disappointed with the food. We ordered peri peri chips and veggie pizza. It was a store bought pizza just heated up and given to us. Even the chips were soggy and not fried well. Extremely expensive for the quality of food which they do not even make in the restaurant. Very unhappy with the experience and the amount spent here.

We got the mixed kebab 2 portions for 30£ and I don't think it was more that 200 grams per portion. Very very disappointing! I always say " please and thank you" not a word back. We wanted to eat inside and they packed it to take away. That wasn't a problem until we asked for cutlery and napkins when we got the wood cutlery which is not a problem, but they had a tray full of the metal ones on the table next to us. Don't go there

I am feeling so disappointed and hungry too. I have never been given such revolting food in my life. It was like a joke kebab. I have had many donor kebabs and a donor kebab should have fresh meat succulently cooked and thinly sliced. I had thick sliced chunks of some sort of fake meat that looked like dog food and tasted cardboardy and foul. I pulled it all out of the pita bread after tasting one bite, and was left with onions, a bit of lettuce, tomato and dry pita bread for dinner after traveling all day. Not happy! My daughters had the burgers, which also had processed patties and the burgers themselves were flat and under filled. The chips were cold and dry. The guy also got the order wrong and gave one daughter chicken not beef as she had requested. Please don’t order from this place unless you have been given proof they’ve improved. I am sorry to leave this review but I am shocked people can consider charging others for such food. Please make food that is fresh and genuine or revert to other food choices you are happy to spend time on and feel confident making. Or write in your menu that everything is processed not fresh- be honest. It’s just not fair, especially when people are living or travelling on a tight budget as we are.

Food not fresh, tasted frozen and reheat some the thw meat was still stone cold in the middle full of colouring. Chips were edible. But the thick black pubic hair in the kebab. Was enough for me. And i left. Over prices discussing don't waist your time or money

If this is the best in Aviemore then Aviemore may as well shut its doors. The bun looked toasted but was soft and soggy. The burger was really thin and appeared to have been microwaved. May even have come from a tin. I should have seen trouble when I asked the assistant what size the burger was he held his hands a few inches apart! 🤣Overpriced too. Not recommended

Really tasty freshly made sandwiches and great value. If you are off on an adventure then you need to stop here to get some lunch to take with you!

Brilliant friendly service.

We had a lovely stay. The room/bathroom were fabulous. Very comfortable bed. The dinner we had was wonderful. Our waiter James, was so professional and knowledgeable. A great dinning experience. The bar was small and cozy. I imagine in the winter with a roaring fire it would be fabulous. My only wish was that there had been a few toiletries (like a shower cap) supplied.

This hotel offers exceptional hospitality! We had an unexpected incident that required us to arrive around midnight, but the owner welcomed us warmly. The breakfast was fantastic, with a wide variety of choices, leaving us energized for our hike at Ben Macdui which is 30 minutes away by driving. The dinner was also really delicious. The room was clean and comfortable, making our stay truly enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable hotel set in a quiet location. Dinner was delicious. No wonder the dining room was full. Lucy is an excellent chef.

Just spent 3 nights at the Speyside. Fantastic hotel and Mark and Lucy could not have done more to make it such a fabulous stay. Great rooms, bar, service and staff - and Lucy is a top chef who made us amazing dinners on Friday and Sunday. We will be back for sure.

Four times in four evenings and always as excellent! French tourists on their first trip to Scotland. We went there for dinner and everything was perfect: the atmosphere, the warm and professional staff, the recipes! (Other restaurants don't offer a menu of this quality). We can also add the excellent whiskey list! A big thank you again to the staff.

Terrific hotel in a charming town! Great staff as well - Mark in particular is friendly and helpful. I loved the cozy bar with a fireplace and excellent selection of whiskies to enjoy. You won't misstep by booking here!

Great hotel with wonderful staff. Mark went above and beyond even picking up our laundry so we could do the whisky tour. The restaurant is one of the best we have eaten in during our UK trip.

First time here. Very pleasantly surprised how good the food was with a varied selection of entrees and sides. Staff were keen that we enjoyed our meal and looked after us well.

My boyfriend and me went to Scotland for one week. As Germans, we're used to being able to eat anywhere at any time of day with service at the table. In Scotland, you often search in vain. The first star goes to Tandoori because this restaurant has been one of the few constants in our time. It's open every evening. The next two stars are for the food. I wasn't a fan of Indian food before. Tandoori, however, serves quickly, hot, and freshly. The taste was excellent. The fourth and fifth stars go to the service. As Germans, you're not without a lot of friction in Scotland. Tandoori also blurred all interpersonal boundaries. With an enormous sensitivity for small talk, in-depth conversations, and quiet periods, you experience a traditional and familiar restaurant visit with pleasant interaction and an absolutely comfortable atmosphere. We ate there four times and it could've been more. The prices are absolutely normal in Scotland, here you got service at the table and payment after eating. Love it.

On a recent trip to Kingussie, we decided to eat in the Royal tandoori (in a previous life, when I went there it was called the Tipsy Laird!) what a fab place. The 2 gentleman serving, seemed to be so enjoying the customers, they were so friendly and helpful. The food was magnificent, I couldn't finish my portion....unheard of! We even met the chef, Kamal, he actually served our starters! this man has a talent for preparing food. Can't recommend it high enough, even though we live 600 miles away, I'm sure we'll eat there again! Well done guys.

I eat alot of curry and can safely recommend this curry house. The flavours were excellent and the portions reasonable. I was initially surprised by the prices of the vegetable side dishes (@ around £13), a fair bit more than I am used to paying in the south of UK, but they were a decent portion size. I would have liked to order 2 sides for this price or a side and some poppadoms. What really stood out though was the friendly service. The hosts were very accommodating when I asked for some extra chillies to spice up the Madras (free of charge), they even bought out some naga chili pickle for me to try as a garnish. Excellent service and people, a real credit to the restaurant business. Well worth a visit if you are in the area, they go the extra mile to make you welcome.

The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly, but the food was very disappointing. The mixed grill tasted like it was made with frozen meat and had way too much food coloring. They even garnished the plates with food coloring, which stained my shirt. The prices were much higher than other Indian restaurants, and the food quality just didn't justify the cost.

One of the worst dining experiences ever. We ordered vegetable biryani and a few vegetarian dishes — all were bland, terribly tasteless, and oily with a half-cooked texture. Even basic hospitality was missing: the server refused to serve tea, restricted what we could order, and acted like they were doing us a favour despite the place being empty. Avoid at all costs — bad service, worse food, and absolutely no value for money.

Very, very busy place with an efficient flow. Can feel a little stressful with the speed and crowd. Kind of a camp cafeteria vibe. You enter right next to where you order. But I believe you need to get seats first. Look at the board and signs for the menu, inform the teen staff and they will start serving you. You need to prepare your tray. Or grab a sandwich and drink from the fridge. As you move down the counter, you get to the desserts on cake stands, and then move to the cashier counter for payment. Menu is pretty simple. We got a green curry with rice, and Cullen skink with cheese scone. It was pleasant. Dog friendly!
