Food & Drink
Blair Athol Distillery, situated in the charming town of Pitlochry at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands, is one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries. The Allt Dour, a water source originating from Ben Vrackie in the Grampian Mountains, contributes to the smooth and mellow finish of its renowned single-malt whiskies.
A splendid experience. It was the first time for me and the tour was really informative and very well explained. The tour guide was really nice and so friendly. We had a great chat with her afterwards. Don't forget to visit their shop after the tour. You won't find any of their products outside their venue which is an added value for them indeed. Highly recommended.

Our guide, Cameron, was fantastic—he really made the experience. His mix of humor and knowledge created a relaxed atmosphere while still delivering plenty of interesting facts. Walking through the production areas and distillery gave us a much deeper understanding of the process. Cameron also made sure everyone understood how whisky is made—his explanation of the process chart was simple, clear, and spot-on. The tour length was just right—enough time to cover everything without feeling too long. The whisky tasting at the end was well-balanced, and we appreciated the small bottles provided for our designated driver. The gift glasses were a lovely touch. We stayed to chat with Cameron afterward in the Gift Shop and chose the 12-year single malt, which was our favorite. Overall, it was a fun and engaging experience.

I recently visited Blair Athol Distillery, and it was an absolute highlight of my trip to Scotland. The distillery itself is stunning, steeped in history, and set in a beautiful location that feels both authentic and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the experience was smooth, well-organized, and full of charm. Our guide, Alan, made the tour unforgettable. His knowledge of whisky making was second to none, but what really stood out was the way he shared it—with warmth, humor, and a real passion for the craft. He struck the perfect balance between detailed storytelling and making sure everyone felt included, whether a seasoned whisky drinker or a first-timer. Alan didn’t just guide us through the process; he brought the distillery to life with history, local anecdotes, and a contagious enthusiasm. The tasting at the end was a fantastic way to wrap up—every dram carried depth and character, and Alan’s explanations gave me a new appreciation for the unique style of Blair Athol whisky. I left with both a deeper understanding of whisky making and a bottle to remember the experience by. If you’re anywhere near Pitlochry, make time for this distillery. It’s not just about whisky; it’s about storytelling, tradition, and people like Alan who make the experience shine. Highly recommended!

The tour was to the point but super informative, Cat answered all our questions like a true pro and the whiskey was bangin' - but mostly their team is just so kind. My brother was having back issues, so I went down early to ask if there was stool we could borrow during the tour. Someone from their team actually went through the whole distillery to make sure there was a chair in every room for him. So not just great whiskey, but also great people. We had a wonderful afternoon 🤍 (Also, try the highball at the bar! Delicious craftsmanship 👌🏻)
Rani C — Google review
Very old brewery now owned by a mega corp. Small but interesting equipment that gives a good idea of the processes involved in making Scotch whiskey. Your guide was affable and pleasant. Whiskey was very good but not great. Certainly the tour was a good value and a fun way to learn about whiskey
Mike B — Google review
We had a wonderful experience at the Blair Athol Whisky Distillery. María, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining, explaining the process in a clear and engaging way. We tasted three different whiskies, discovering their unique aromas and undertones. The distillery itself is cosy and full of charm — overall, a fantastic experience that we highly recommend. PS: The whiskey barrel chocolates were wonderful 😋
Krystal — Google review
On our way back to Edinburgh we stopped at Blair Athol Distillery. Perfect way to enjoy a very well done and friendly tour of the distillery with a super cool, friendly and knowledgeable guide. She made all of us welcome. The Whisky is unique, very tasty and brought lots of joy when we shared some with our family after. Cheers!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience! Cameron manned the bar during our tasting and made it such a fun visit. He is knowledgeable and passionate. Two of our party didn't do the tasting and still found it enjoyable and interesting. The original copper mash tun is also quite a sight. Highly recommend!

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is a unique attraction in the Highlands, offering a diverse range of productions and featuring a cafe-bar with scenic river views. The theatre has an interesting history, with its founder leaving a note during World War II that led to the establishment of the festival in 1951. Overlooking the River Tummel, it is easily accessible from Pitlochry and provides ample parking.
We got incredibly lucky at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, managing to bag the last two tickets for "Nan Shepherd: Naked and Unashamed" for that day. Having already fallen in love with charming Pitlochry while staying in a nearby shepherd's hut, learning about the show meant we simply had to go – and we are so incredibly glad we did. This two-hander was an immensely engaging play, a testament to the clever writing by Richard Baron and Ellie Zeegen. Its immersive nature and thoughtful design truly drew us in. Adam Buksh and Susan Coyle delivered tremendous performances, with Adam Buksh seamlessly embodying multiple characters with impressive elan. The narrative, especially being about Nan Shepherd while in the Highlands, felt deeply resonant and culturally enriching. The Pitlochry Festival Theatre itself left a strong impression. We watched the play in the Studio, and the seats were exceptionally comfortable. The views would be excellent from anywhere in the studio, a credit to its design. The director clearly kept the venue's features in mind, which only served to elevate the play further. Learning more about the theatre's history and mission afterward made us even more appreciative of our visit. For me, there's truly no better way to understand a place than to engage with its arts scene. Experiencing a play about Nan Shepherd while immersed in the Highlands felt like a uniquely perfect cultural moment. It was a truly memorable and highly recommended experience!

Fantastic venue. The surrounding grounds are beautiful. The Explorers garden worth a visit too. We went to see The 39 Steps. Brilliant, highly recommend. The 4 actors playing all different characters. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Absolutely lovely and so fun. An intimate stage experience with talented artists and a wonderful story. The building is clean and bright and modern in a storied landscape and garden that is entirely walkable and photo-worthy. Head over early to enjoy a leisurely stroll, a cup of tea or coffee, or a dram. The gift shop is worth perusing. Bathrooms are gendered rooms with stalls.

Lovely theatre. Easy to get to. Good toilet facilities. Lovely choice in the cafeteria. Good views. You also have a lovely garden to explore next door and not far from the dam.

Just saw 'A Toast Fae The Lassies' at Pitlochry theatre studio and it was magnificent! The acting was excellent and the singing outstanding. The musicianship was first class. The intimacy of the Pitlochry theatre studio helped, but the show deserves a national audience. Well done everyone involved, well done Pitlochry Festival Theatre!

Lovely place! Good sized shop with some gorgeous items. Beautiful theatre. Please though - more women's toilets! We saw the Great Gatsby. The cast were phenomenal.

Stumbled in to the first night of Nan Shepard and it was absolutely delightful! The audience even sang a Scottish song together. She was quite a wonderful person who is no longer lost to history. Great production! So glad I got to see it! 😁

Visitor center
Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre offers a fascinating experience for visitors, featuring multimedia exhibitions on hydro-electricity, dam history, and salmon breeding. The center is open throughout the year and boasts an excellent exhibition area with interactive models showcasing electricity generation and the journey of salmon through the fish ladder. Additionally, there's a cozy cafe with a balcony offering scenic views of the dam, as well as a gift shop stocked with local souvenirs.
We absolutely loved the entire town. Our visit was spontaneous—we took a train from Glasgow and reached the town in about an hour and 45 minutes. The town is easily accessible from the railway station. We spent around 45 minutes exploring the dam and about 3 hours wandering through the town. Luckily, it was a sunny day. You can easily plan a visit without much preparation.
Poornima K — Google review
A very interesting visit, the walk on the dam wall has astonishing views of the river and the salmon ladder is a clever way to compensate the intrusion in their ecosystem. A visit to the visitors centre puts everything in context while you enjoy a nice coffee with a view, worth the visit!
Shubhaa — Google review
My favourite place to stroll around in the autumn. Love to sit on the balcony with a soup, admiring the colours of autumn. The dam is a very old hydroplant, one of the oldest in Scotland - still fully functional with a fish tunnel for our salmons coming back home. Worth a visit for an afternoon.
Lenka M — Google review
Very nice place, easy to walk true, include a few steps so need to be careful if you have a older person or disabled. Good to see the fish ladder and the live camera footage. Didn't see anything while was there but still nice, and belive a few lucky people see the salmons passing.
Gyorgy V — Google review
Beautiful view of the river and dam, modern and informative hands-on exhibits, clean bathrooms, cafe and gift shop make this a fantastic stop. You can stay 20 minutes or 2 hours at your own pace.
Nicole R — Google review
Not quite what we expected! We thought it would be more based on the Dam and indeed Dam’s in general in Scotland. It had a lower museum area with an informative film about building Dam’s but no where near as much as I personally thought it would. Large cafe and gift shop of course!! Seating outside to view the Dam and a 100 step pathway (literally down steps which were even) down to the level of the water. Plenty of parking spaces and disabled parking spaces available. Toilets inside and disabled toilets. Full disability access throughout with a lift to the lower floor. As I say pleasant but not as much history and information as we personally would have liked….and I must add staff rather standoffish which is rare for Scotland I feel. As a side point the walkway over the Dam was currently closed when we visited which was no fault of the visitor centre but was disappointing
Her I — Google review
Pitlochry Dam is an absolute must-visit! The recent upgrades have made viewing the incredible salmon run so much easier and more engaging. The new facilities offer fantastic, clear views of the salmon battling upstream, making for an unforgettable experience. It's a wonderful blend of natural wonder and engineering marvel, perfect for all ages. Highly recommended!

Atholl Palace Museum, situated in the hotel's basement, offers a captivating journey into the town's history. It provides insights into the lives of guests and workers from 140 years ago. Visitors can explore compelling exhibits featuring past staff members who immigrated to Pitlochry to support their families by working at the hotel. The museum also showcases a fascinating film documenting the hotel's rich history, making it an educational and immersive experience for all visitors.
Very educational, loved the pictures of past staff. How they emigrated to work in pitlochry to earn money for their families, they made the hotel and earned their keep in the hotel back then but now all i'd recommend is visiting the museum as the hotel now is absolutely disgraceful or how it was then to how it is now.

Welcome to top sirloin food where you’ll pay high price for cheap steak, small rooms, creaky floors and uncomfortable beds. Awesome view but awful food for the price. when they cleaned the room, they knock at 0900 waking us up and don’t replace basic things like the water.
J B — Google review
Beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds. Only thing that makes it not get 5 stars is the paper thin walls and noises early in the morning from cleaners.
Armisis A — Google review
It's cool to learn about the hotel's history if you're a guest, but I wouldn't come all the way here if I hadn't been
Mindy H — Google review
This place is over priced for a stay if you book through the hotel , even tho I stayed three night it was dated and not maintained well ,tap fell off tiles floor had movement in them so to me it was three star . And spa was not even open !!!...the good points was the food was good so was the gardens and some of the staff where 5 star but one or two of them let them down . Been in better hotels for what I pay for here !!!

The best scottish presents ever!!! We watched the video about the whole process, amazing that it's all hand work. So unique! And of cause the store has the largest variety of jewelry

Absolutely beautiful and unique piece! My pendant arrived safely and it’s even more stunning in person – like a little piece of wild Scottish nature captured in silver. The craftsmanship is lovely, and the team was very helpful during the customs process. Thank you for your care and kindness! Greetings from Czechia 💚

A great place for some very unique jewellery in a beautifully laid out shop setting but this has the added attraction of seeing how the jewellery is made from collecting the heather stalks through the various stages up to the finising layer of lacquer by way of a small exhibition area , well worth a visit

Bought a ring at Braemar when I was touring the highlands. The stone fell off on my second day of wearing it. Customer service was brilliant. They got back to me immediately and paid for postage to send the ring back to their warehouse. They sent me a new ring to my home address (outside of the UK). They cleared the custom charges as well.

This place is adorable and off the beaten path which made me want to love it. I tried hard but the staff were stroppy. Felt like they had already decided we were passing tourists not worthy of being there. It’s sad because we’re local and would have loved to be regulars. The place was 40% empty yet after being told to sit anywhere we then had to move to a smaller table. I wanted a side of chips and they wouldn’t serve it unless I ordered a meal- the snarky suggestion was that I order a steak. The table we wanted to sit at remained empty until we left.
Dawn S — Google review
Good pub good beer beautiful village. Brewery on site. Staff friendly.
David B — Google review
The lady serving was great, and the younger guy was also polite when serving us drinks and food. The older guy with the glasses was really rude to us for no reason. We were a group of 5 guys (locals) who had just come back from climbing Ben Vrackie for the first time, never hiked anything before, and looking for some food and drinks to celebrate. We said to each other we couldn't do rounds so we're just going to pay for what we got for ourselves. The older bartender audibly said it pissed him off that we were paying separately whilst we were getting our drinks and he stepped away - it was pretty quiet. We were polite and didn't say anything. We then ordered food and had a nice time in the corner by ourselves. We stacked the dishes at the end and grouped the glasses and paid separetly, again this took barely any time to process and we left. The last guy in our group to pay told the older bartender what he was paying for and the bartender called us "the nightmare table". God forbid 5 separate customers ever enter this place and the man has to do his job. He is the only reason we left poor reviews as it just soured the entire time there. I can see this is a trend with other reviewers that staff are pretty unpleasant at times and I completely get the vibe. Meals are also pretty pricey like £20 odd for a lot of the mains.
Simon W — Google review
Food ( pork and salmon) were not good and expensive. Beer was warm. Service not friendly and cold. Table was sticky and dirty. Only positive was the interior of the pub nicely decorated

Pitlochry Fish Ladder is a popular tourist attraction in the Victorian town of Pitlochry, Scotland. Visitors can explore the massive dam and experience the power of the hydro plant generating energy. The fish ladder, although not wheelchair accessible, offers a unique opportunity to witness nature's spectacle as fish navigate through it. After heavy rain, the dam opens up, providing a spectacular sight with debris collecting at barriers.
Such an amazing place. So ingenious. We never saw any fish on our visit but it was cold so I reckon the fish were smarter than us

Gorgeous walk, enthralling experience watching salmon. Could've spent hours here.

It's an interesting feature to allow salmon up past the dam, but they only come up once a year, round about October so don't expect to see anything any other time. There are explanation boards at the bottom of the ladder and a walkway up the side with a bridge over it to get a full view.
Joseph K — Google review
Every time we have a holiday in Pitlochry, we always visit the Fish Ladder, it's brilliant with or without seeing the salmon. It's amazing when the dam is in flood. The views are wonderful & you can get some fabulous photos. Looking forward to visiting the Pitlochry Fish Ladder next year

Great walk alongside the river and over the dam. Fantastic views. Lovely town to walk through with plenty of refreshment stops. Easily accessible by car or train.

An Ingeneous set of pools designed that the salmon will swim up round the side of the Pitlochry dam , they swim through pipes in the bottom of the pools so they will unlikely be spotted jumping , a display at the bottom of the slope illustrates the lifestyle of the Atlantic salmon and points out the various stages of its life cycle
Tork M — Google review
I really enjoy these types of places, so I can't complain, but may be a bit boring for others. Didn't see any salmon out of the water as the "ladder" has been designed so the swim underneath the surface. There is a live cam feed at the bottom of the river embankment, which was cool to see them actually going through. Free to visit so definitely worth a neb.

Visitors praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff, particularly highlighting Monique's expertise. The nicest staff! Had a great experience learning about whiskey and getting a chance to try some. Although I’m not the biggest whiskey fan, I was included in the experience and introduced to different tastes, finding one that I actually enjoyed. It was really nice for the employee to try to get to know what I like and find something that will be enjoyable for me too. Thank you!

30 years ago I would have made a trip to Pitlochry just to visit Robertson’s. It WAS in my opinion the best whisky shop in the country. Now it’s changed direction focusing on tastings. Whilst I think this has diminished the shop, I get it, but for me who loved to Just browse the vast range, it is definitely not as good as it was. I am however sure it will offer a great experience to those looking to learn more about whisky. Thanks Ewan for taking the time to respond.

went for a 30-minute walk from town to visit a waterfall. It wasn't crowded, and the journey was quite easy. It took us only 10 minutes to reach the waterfall where we found a small bridge to watch it. Looking forward to returning in autumn to capture the beautiful colours. :)

Nice little hike and decent waterfall. There is a trail network past the fall of you’d like to keep going. Nice loop trail options, lots of shade!

Very pretty waterfall. The walk-up wasn't the most challenging, but make sure you have good footwear. There were a lot of hiking trails around, too. Not too crowded either!

Pitlochry Dam is a must-visit when in the area. The new Visitor Centre offers stunning views of the dam, hydro station, and Loch Faskally from its cantilevered position over the River Tummel. A walk from Pitlochery Recreation ground car park to the dam provides an educational experience for kids with well-marked signage and a visitor center at the top. The surrounding area is beautiful, perfect for a leisurely walk or observing salmon.
A must-visit attraction in Pitlochry! The dam, hydro station, and visitor centre together make a fantastic place to explore. The visitor centre has excellent exhibitions explaining how hydro power works, with interactive displays and friendly staff. The fish ladder is a fascinating feature, especially when salmon are swimming upstream — a great experience for both adults and children. The area is clean, well maintained, and offers beautiful river and hill views. There’s also a lovely café with panoramic windows overlooking the dam and plenty of nearby car parking. A perfect mix of nature, engineering, and Scottish history — highly recommended for photos and a relaxing day out! ⚡🐟🌿📸

December 2024: Worth a visit if in the area. Lovely interactive (free) visitor centre and cafe on site. It is possible to walk across the dam wall, look into the pumping area and also see the salmon ladder. Great views on a clear day. A nice, peaceful attraction to visit. Car park on site next to the visitor centre or more car parks further in town a short walk away. Hope to revisit and see the dam in operation one day!
Christian E — Google review
It is a small dam but perfectly formed, with main generation plant in behind the dam itself and windows along the walkway allow you to view inside, but not a lot to see. There are large booms across the loch to keep logs from doing damage and paths from here go round Loch Faskally so a good walking area. There is a new visitor centre if you want to find out more.
Joseph K — Google review
A small working hydroelectric dam with a great visitor centre and a salmon leap series of pools , you can walk right over the top looking at the recently created loch Faskelly and down the Tummel valley

Beautiful area to have a walk, watch the salmons and relax. The surrounding area is just beautiful, with a couple of bars and the Fonab Castle Hotel near by (a bad place to work, but beautiful place stay).

It’s nice to visit if you’re in the area, it’s a nice opportunity for a pretty walk on either sides of the dam. Was nothing break taking though, so if you’re on a time crunch I’d miss this.

Pitlochry Golf Course is a premier destination for golf enthusiasts of all levels. The 18-hole course offers stunning views of the Tummel Valley and Ben Vrackie, creating a picturesque backdrop for a day on the green. With well-maintained fairways and greens, it caters to both seasoned players and beginners. After a round, golfers can unwind at the welcoming clubhouse with refreshments and scenic vistas.
Great course experience and friendly people working around the club. Pro shop is well stocked and they go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Will definitely play here again.
Nate O — Google review
Played the pairs open at Pitlochry today. The course was in great condition. Fairways were like carpets and the greens were superb. Staff in the pro shop and bar were really friendly. Tried the food after the golf. We both had burgers. They had been pre cooked and reheated and the cheese was cremated. Not good value for what we paid. Overall great day and will definitely return ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️
Phil H — Google review
Extremely fun golf course. Very friendly pro shop got me set up with a surprisingly nice set of rental clubs as I was traveling. Course isn't long, but makes it challenging with layout. Almost no even lies in the fairways. Greens are fast and subtle. Elevation changes makes short holes long, and some par 4s drivable. Whipping winds added a layer too. Absolutely thrilled I got to check off a bucket list item of playing golf in Scotland and didn't have to break the back to have an awesome afternoon, and weather was gorgeous. Writing this review while enjoying a pint and watching the Women's Open at St Andrews on the projector screen in the clubhouse restaurant. A great day for golf!

Lovely setting, gorgeous views! Range is perfect when raining.. well covered !! Short iron range is a great addition and putting green in great condition. Pro shop is well stocked, membership price is more than decent - only downside is visitor green fee is slightly too dear for me to try this time 🥲 but the course looks pristine !! 🤩 Update: Played the course today with my son.. in great condition for the time of year, course layout was fantastic with challenging playing yardages! Pro was great and food after was lovely 👌 would love to play again !!

Visited whilst on holiday, really looking forward to using the driving range. Venue looked great but unfortunately they do not hire clubs out as per the website ‘Our family friendly facility has clubs available for hire and is open 7 days a week from dawn till dusk.’ Disappointing due to the misinformation, would recommend you update this to avoid wasting peoples time. Venue looked lovely.
Ash B — Google review
A very warm welcome by the pro shop, reduced green fee in the afternoon / twilight. Not busy at all and it was a perfect 🌞 day. The course is a gem right in the heart of Scotland. It might seem short, but challenging nonetheless. Prepare to take some photos/videos of the stunning scenery. Highly recommended!!
Olav L — Google review
Played 18 holes late afternoon. Would have liked to go back a day later but the prices for a morning round were double, even given itcwas not busy. It's a pretty course with some interesting holes, beware the first couple as it's uphill all the way.
James H — Google review
Scenic course in the scottish highlands. Due to it being in the mountains, expect alot of elevations changes. One is constantly shooting up or down hill, which is plenty fun but also rather challenging. As it is a less known course, it gives off a more relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Definitely give this course a try if you’re looking for a change from the typical links course.

Used book store
Pitlochry Station Bookshop is a charming charity bookstore located conveniently by the train platform. Run entirely by volunteers, this shop offers a wide selection of secondhand books at incredibly affordable prices, with most books priced at just 1. The proceeds from the book sales support six local charities, including Shop Mobility Pitlochry and Cancer Research. Visitors appreciate the well-organized sections and friendly volunteers who are happy to assist and chat about the shop's charitable causes.
Lovely charity bookstore right by the platform of a train station. They have a great selection of books, big fiction section which I believe was organized alphabetically by authors? The nice lady behind the register kindly explained the purpose of the bookstore and causes/charities it supports. We almost missed the shop since my maps app was acting up, but I'm so glad we didn't :) found editions of these books that I never even knew existed!
Kateřina S — Google review
Discovered this bookshop by happy accident today. The volunteer working today was a lovely chatty, friendly woman, who told us about the bookshop and the money raised for charity over the years. The price of the books are superb and they are in great condition. I enjoyed my random trip to Pitlochry today, the walk along the river was lovely, lunch at the Dam visitor centre was good, the bookshop was the absolute highlight and will be a reason I end up on a train to Pitlochry one day.
Fiona W — Google review
An absolutely stunning bookshop right at the railway. Cozy interior with a lot of different books to choose from, I found everything from travel guides to classic literature and children’s books. The woman inside was really really nice and I am still amazed by the minimal to none damage of the titles, especially for these prices. I bought a novel and a signed poem collection about this city, Pitlochry. There was a lot of literature by and about locals, which I haven’t see in any bookshop like this before! I can only love and respect the work of store, giving the donations a second chance to be appreciated. All in all just a fantastic visit!
Vanessa ( — Google review
If only more railway stations had a bookshop like this. I had about thirty mins to wait for my next train. This charity bookshop is run by volunteers and it is wonderful to visit. They have taken time to organise all the books into sections and the two ladies were very chatty the day I visited. The bookshop supports some local charities like Shop Mobility Pitlochry they also support Cancer Research and a number of other charities. As I said the bookshop is run by volunteers and you can leave a donation towards the upkeep of the bookshop. This bookshop should be on every book lovers bucket list.

Krzysztof W — Google review
I previously rented a boat last year and was met with a less than friendly welcome. However I was able to hire a boat which was the point of this excursion. Today I returned to do the same thing and was met with the less than friendly welcome from last year. However today I was told that it was out of season and no boats were available for hire. This was all presented matter of factly without a smile, sorry for the inconvenience or a friendly invite to enjoy their other facilities. I tried to point out that I had hired a boat the previous year at this time, this was not even acknowledged and in fact the lady was already turning her back on me and walking away I was talking. May I point out there was no one else there to ‘distract’ After reading other reviews I fully expect a dissertation pointing out all the ways I am wrong and it is all my fault. May I suggest alternatively using that wasted time by practicing customer facing skills.

The Explorers Garden in Pitlochry is a hidden gem that offers a delightful experience for nature enthusiasts. The garden, much larger than expected, is filled with stunning and diverse plant life, making it a pleasant surprise for visitors. The passionate efforts of the Garden Manager, Caroline, to restore and enhance the garden are evident as she shares her extensive knowledge with visitors. Despite its compact size, the garden boasts numerous captivating features waiting to be explored.
Lovely, peaceful gardens and walk. A short walk from the main street in Pitlochry and next to Pitlochry Festival Theatre for amenities. It's a fairly short walk around, but that depends on how long you want to spend at each location based area, e.g., Japanese Gardens, etc. There are benches dotted around for a rest, bite to eat, and to take in views. Nice break from the hustle. There is an entry fee, and we booked online through their website.
Elaine G — Google review
We visited in mid May which is a good time to go to the garden. Many interesting plants - well cared for - with labels and plaques linking the plants to the explorers who brought them here. A plan is available as a guide to the gatden. There are many seats if you need a rest. Portaloos available. There are some steepish slopes which have steps. These areas I would not recommend for someone needing to use a walker or a wheelchair. There are no gravel paths for wheels to get mired in. Followng our visit we enjoyed a lunch at the theatre closeby.
Sheila B — Google review
A very interesting and varied display of plants and trees from all over the world that were discovered by Scottish horticultural explorers hence the name, we were there in mid Aug and possibly missed the best of the plants so have planned to go back in May , lots of display boards and info sheets tell the story of the explorers and theres plenty of seats and quiet areas to take in the well maintained and well designed garden areas. We especially liked the Japanese and Himalayan areas with the temple and dragon carvings
Tork M — Google review
The gardens are a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit. Despite being on the side of a hill it's still fairly accessible for those with a wheelchair as long as there's a strong pusher! It's interesting and tranquil with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings! I would recommend it as a visit in itself or a place to go for an hour or more before or after a show at the theatre!

This cafe's toilet was great. It was very spaceous and clean. It had the basics (toilet paper, soap and a working lock) and it was free. After washing your hands, you even have a choice. They both have paper towels and an air blower. The reason why I'm only giving them 4 stars is because there were only 2 toilets. One for men and one for everyone (including disabled people and it had a baby changing table).

A very friendly little place, not too many tables, and really good service. A pleasant atmosphere to sit in. Coffee was tasty! Their story on the menu mentions that most of their food is locally sourced, so big bonus points for that. Dog friendly, very friendly! Their toilets have a wall of polaroids of dogs that have visited which is just fantastic Only reason for food being rated 4/5 is that their lunch choices felt quite limited. The food itself was good

The Dunfallandy Stone is a remarkable ancient structure that was originally part of the tomb of Lieutenant-General Archibald Fergusson of Dunfallandy, dating back to 1834. It is now on display for public viewing, showcasing an impressive array of iconic symbols and imagery from over 2,000 years ago.
One of the most detailed early medieval Pictish carved stones. Incorporating both a cross and traditional symbols, this provides a glimpse of a lost language and culture.

Located about a 10 minute walk from the Port-na-Craig suspension bridge, it’s definitely worth a visit if interested in Pictish remains or old monuments more generally. The information board at the site does the job nicely and gives decent background info. Access is through farm road and up around 20 or so steps. Family cemetery to rear of stone also worth a quick look.

Nice little hidden gem which doesn’t seem to get many visitors. Located a short walk (10/15mins) outside of Pitlochry or a 5 min drive. There is parking for 1/2 cars just inside gates and then it’s a short walk up farm road. Located on a working farm so watch out for farm traffic. Access to stone is via a steep staircase but it’s worth the climb. Also site of what looks like family graves. Stone is behind glass and covered for its protection with a good information plaque.

Lovely wee hidden treasure, the stone is located up a steep set of steps so not great if you have mobility issues. Parking seemed to be in the farm yard at the bottom of the hill. The Dunfallandy Stone is a Class II Pictish Stone aged around 600-843 during the Christian-Pictish era. On one side of the stone depicts a stag, Jonah being swallowed by a fish-tailed Ketos (an early Christian version of the biblical whale), two cherubim, and large Celtic cross with circular cross in the middle and on the other side is an enthroned couple, a horseman, several Pictish beasts, crescent moon and V-Rod, iron working tools, and mirrored Carnyx the Celtic wind instrument.

This is not too far out of Pitlochry and a must for those with an interest in Scottish history. We’ve visited many standing stones but none were as detailed as this. Amazing that something as old as this can still be so beautiful and designs so clear. There is a small hill and about 50 steps to climb, but worth the effort! A small lay-by to park in by the road, and a lovely descriptive board by the stone, no other facilities.

The Pitlochry Highland Games, which have been held since 1852, offer a day of traditional Scottish competitions and festivities. Visitors can witness bagpipe contests, tug-of-war, Highland dancing, and the iconic caber toss. The event exudes a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere that attracts both locals and tourists. In addition to the thrilling activities, attendees can savor delicious local food and beverages from various vendors.
Unfortunately we arrived quite late and only caught the last few track & field events, and the highlight: all bag pipe bands marching in together at the end. It was drizzling lightly but that didn‘t have any affect on the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend to stop by if you have the time!

The staff was very kind. Athlete's we fun to watch. Parking was crazy far. Not many friendly people. Weather changed 20x. Beautiful terrain.

(Translated by Google) Original Highland Games in a relaxed, family atmosphere. If the weather is good, it's a must for tourists to Scotland. Bagpipe competitions, tug-of-war, dancing and flying tree trunks - there is something to see everywhere. Delicious food, some from local clubs/schools, and drinks round off the experience. Clear recommendation! (Original) Original Highland Games in entspannter, familiärer Atmosphäre. Escape Route Cafe is a great place to get a bite to eat or enjoy a cup of coffee before hitting the road. The cafe offers excellent food and drink options, with vegan and vegetarian options available as well as plenty of seating both indoors and out. As well as fantastic coffee, Escape Route is also great for brunch - perfect for catching up with friends over some delicious toasties!
We hired some e-Mountainbikes and it was in general just great service. Flexible in both getting and bringing the bikes back. Toby gave us some good recommendation about which routes to take and even checked in at the end if we enjoyed it and if we managed to dodge the rain. The escape route really doesn't have to give a lot of service to rent you a bike, but the service they provide is genuine and will make sure you feel like you have tail wind for the whole day!

Had to make a distress stop on our LEJOG journey with an ailing bottom bracket. The guys couldn;t replace it because of exotic parts but workshop man did a great patch-up at short notice which definitely got me to John o'Groats. Thank you!!!
Jonathan D — Google review
Tried here as our last stop before driving home from holiday. It was raining, so we wanted somewhere to sit in. There is seating indoor and outdoor, the outdoor seating is covered over, so you can still sit out if it's rainy but warm! There were 7 of us, so we got sat together inside at a large bench. You order and pay at the counter, with meals then brought out to you. The staff were lovely and chatty and happy. At first glance, we thought some of the menu was priced slightly high. It was near £9 for a sandwich.... but... When the sandwiches came out, wow, they were like doorstops!! Overflowing with filling, they come in a large bowl with tortilla and a lovely fresh salad, the bread was so thick, gorgeous and soft! I also ordered a scone, which was huge! Maybe that was a mistake without knowing how big the sandwiches were going to be! Haha! Overall, we all absolutely enjoyed our food and thought the service was great! We will definitely be back next time we are in town! 5*

Service, speed, attention to detail and engagement like this is hard to find! Oh and they serve great coffee too! We were next door at Jessie’s cafe travelling from Lands End to John O’Groats when I popped in with some niggles on my bike. Sorted before I could finish my sourdough toast!

Nice little cafe with wonderful selection of bakes. Simple wooden tables and metal chairs so not the most plush place, but staff are very friendly. Marked parking on the road right outside. Ramp into cafe with double doors so wheelchair friendly but not a nonslip floor in the disabled toilet. Connected to Escape Route bike shop

Excellent service! I’m cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats. Had a few issues with my bike including my brakes! Pulled into Escape Route and the team there had it all sorted. I was soon back on the road, really friendly helpful team. Many thanks guys.

We rented three e-bikes and took a 30 mile trip to glen tilt. Kevin was professional, kind and accommodating— when we arrived later than expected and asked to change our reservations to the next day, we expected to pay for the privilege, but Kevin not only allowed us to switch but also suggested we take the bikes that afternoon so we could get an early start the next day. The scenery was unbelievable and the bikes were finely tuned and a pleasure to ride. 100% amazing experience! We’ll be back!

Brian G — Google review
Very interesting walk over the dam and seeing the salmon ladder. Beautiful forest scenes behind the dam. The Pitlochry fish ladder is a fish ladder next to the Pitlochry Power Station, near Pitlochry, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, which allows salmon to travel upstream during the breeding season. The ladder was constructed as a result of a 1943 Act of Parliament which laid a duty of care on the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board to preserve fish stocks in the waterways encompassing its power schemes. The form and design were created by the fish biologist John Berry. It was completed in 1951 alongside the dam for the hydro-electric power station as part of the Tummel hydro-electric power scheme and was installed in 1952. It was the first of its type in Scotland.

Nestled in the heart of town, The Old Mill Restaurant is a vibrant dining spot that exudes a lively ambiance. With an extensive menu featuring bistro classics alongside beloved traditional dishes like steak pie and scampi, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The restaurant comes alive on Saturday nights with regular live music, making it a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.
We had the lamb steak, lobster thermidor, and the steak and ale pie.I have never had lamb steak before, just a lamb shank and lamb chop. It was a little tough, but the potato’s that came with it was awesome. Both the lobster and the steak and ale pie were fabulous. Service and atmosphere was perfect. You gotta give this place try. We came here last night for the music and it was a blast. The dinner was matched the perfect night life.
Jeff K — Google review
Good spot to eat lunch/dinner. It has a good atmosphere and it’s near the main street. The meat that I had was delicious.
PIPE — Google review
I struggled with whether to give this restaurant a 2-star or a 3-star rating. The restaurant is beautiful both outside and inside. We were greeted and seated right away and service went downhill quickly from there. A server approach our table and asked if we wanted food and told us he would get us menus. He brought menus, water, explained the specials as if he was in a hurry, took our drink orders, and then completely disappeared. Another server took our food orders; and yet another server brought our drinks about 15 minutes after the order for them was placed. My husband got the Monk fish special and I got the filet special. Our meals were plates beautifully, but had zero (and I truly mean zero) flavor. My filet was very tender and after I added salt and pepper it was much better, but the other items were so void of flavor that even salt and pepper didn't help. After some discussion, my husband and I agreed this is the worst meal we have had during our vacation in beautiful Scotland.
Sharon C — Google review
Magnificent atmosphere!! Very nice place. I really enjoyed having dinner there. The door was was open so it got a bit cold inside during the evening.
Daniela — Google review
Restuarant is busy and popular but expensive (as are all restaurants in Pitlochry). £22 for dry fish and chips, £20 for smallish portion of scampi. In both cases some of the chips were scrapings and the mushy peas were just a garnish not a portion. Also cold. £30 for house red wine is taking the Mick. Obviously prices geared to taking full advantage of the tourists and I suspect it is the same elsewhere in Pitlochry as menus in other restarts similarly priced. Service fine but atmosphere at bit 1980s.
DJ D — Google review
I had fish and chips which cannot go wrong in UK but it did. For the first time ever of eating countless times and in UK, I had bones in my fish which were small and could have easily gone and stuck int he throat. The fish was also very very oily. Moreover, it was very pricey. Not going back to this place for food. 2 stars is for the fries.
A R — Google review
No complaints from me at all for The Old Mill. I was really happy with my food choices. Chicken wings with a spicy dip, Belly of Pork, and a rhubarb and apple crumble. All bang on choices. The service was very good and efficient.

Ben Vrackie offers a pleasant and not overly steep walk to Loch a'Choire, followed by a challenging climb with mostly stone steps. The top provides stunning views, but it can be cool and windy, so dressing appropriately is essential. The weather at the summit can differ from the bottom, so visitors should be prepared for changing conditions. This relatively easy out-and-back walk from the car park takes about two hours and is recommended for visitors to Pitlochry.
Cold but clear day. Crampons used as the steps after the loch were frozen Wind on the tops but the views were immense

Ben Vrackie in Pitlochry offers an unforgettable mountain trekking experience in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The route takes you through lush meadows, serene lochs, and enchanting tiny forests, providing a perfect mix of natural beauty. The panoramic views from the summit are absolutely stunning, offering a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding landscape. It’s a challenging yet rewarding hike, ideal for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking to immerse themselves in Scotland’s rugged wilderness. Whether you're enjoying the peaceful solitude of the woods or the breathtaking vistas, Ben Vrackie is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts.
Akhil G — Google review
A great climb, an initial walk through woodland before opening out to Moorland with a fairly easy path. Good walk up to the Loch before ascending up rocky steps all the way to the summit. It's quite a steep climb, and sadly, we saw nothing due the usual Scottish weather. So I guess might need to re-climb sometime 😅. Took us 2.5hrs up & down, approx 10km walk
Susan M — Google review
Beautiful hike! We had great weather which helps 😊. A little bit windy near the top. From Pitlochry downtown it took us 5h to climb up and back (with a lunch break).
Natalia S — Google review
Walk to Loch a'Choire is pleasant and not overly steep. Once at the Loch the 'real' climb up Ben Vrackie starts. It is mostly stone steps, but up hill all the way! Stunning views from the top. Cool and windy at the top... so dress appropriate and be prepared for changing weather... hot walking up, cool and blowy and top, and pleasant walking down! It was dry under foot so was not slippery except for the odd few loose stones.
Rachel Y — Google review
Ben Vrackie is a great walk if you are visiting Pitlochry. A relatively easy walk out and back from the carpark can be completed in a couple of hours. Ben Vrackie is just shy of being a Munro and the weather at the top can be very different to the weather at the bottom so pack for all weathers.

I think it took me an hour walking to get to the actual steep mountain (which I didn’t climb because it was soo windy I would have blown off the mountain lol), but it is still worth it for amazing gorgeous views!! All you can is hills, it’s great for some away time from civilisation for a bit! It is pretty upwards but not steep, i didn’t find it hard, but other people had to stop along the way. wrap up warm because it can get cold and windy! also in some parts have to mindful of poopoos

Lovely wee shop I stopped into while at the nearby hotel for a murder mystery night. Lovely staff and the shop is cosy and charming. Bought these little cards to frame for my wall. Great pricing and a lovely selection of items to pick from.

Lovely stuff, albeit on the expensive side. I've passed it for years, so finally went inside. I probably won't be back as the owner has some attitude on her! It culminated in me buying something and saying "have a nice evening" with a smile. Her response? "Yes, I will" and then closed and locked the door behind me! I wasn't even in the shop for 5 mins, so not sure what her problem was...

Nice shop, really lovely products from local artists, but the woman behind the desk really gave of the overwhelming feeling of hate for all living things (aside from the cute dog that was wandering around, which I’m sure she treats well)

For nearly two weeks across nearly the entire country, Eddie of Heartland Tours was there every step, stop, and stumble along the way... and very punctual, I might add. He was so warm and friendly, accommodating/flexible and extremely knowledgeable. Wow! He was a perfect fit for us... ALL 5 of my crazy bunch! He helped make our trip one for the books... and I feel as though he's life-long "friend" after our adventure! Cheers, Eddie!

Eddie was amazing guide! Despite being unexpectedly hit with a once in a century storm, he was able to flexibly plan around this. He has a deep understanding of local history and an amazing grasp of local culture! We were in a situation where there was nearly no path out of Scotland due to the weather and Eddie safely navigated is from the highlands to the airport in time for one of the last flights out before the worst of the storm hit.

The friendly staff are always willing to assist guests in any way possible, adding to the overall magical experience. Ample parking is available on-site, and the location is easily accessible by strollers or wheelchairs.
Off the A9 about 5 miles on a windy road that sometimes only one car can pass by but well worth it. The views are amazing and takes your breath away. Paid parking, 3£ and done by app on the phone.

Stunning views to just look out at and take a moment to appreciate our beautiful country 🥰 we managed to get my dad up In his wheelchair and he wanted to stand and take the view in 💙 we arrived just as the shop/cafe closed so didn’t get into have a wee look. You have to pay for parking here as well.

Excellent views from the viewpoint. The staff at the visitor centre were very pleasant and helpful. We had a lovely lunch at the cafe. The good weather allowed us to use the outside tables which we enjoyed very much in the early Autumn sunshine.👍

This place really lives up to the hype. Amazing viewpoint and an easy, quick walk. Maximum pay-off for minimum effort 👌 Pay to park in the car park but happy to support maintenance/access of such beautiful places in Scotland. Short stay option was only £3 for 6 hours I think. Sure there are many longer walks to do there but we didn't have time on our visit.

Blair Castle & Gardens, dating back to 1269, is a must-visit tourist attraction in Scotland. It serves as the seat of the Duke of Atholl and offers a glimpse into upper-class Highland life through its lavish rooms filled with antiques, art, and armor. The castle's turreted white structure holds historical significance as it was home to the powerful Murray clan and witnessed the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
One of the best castles we visited in Scotland — and my wife’s absolute favorite. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, both at the parking area and the castle entrance, which set a great tone for the visit. The interior was spectacular, with beautifully decorated rooms full of intricate details. It truly felt like people were still living there — the presence of everyday household items added a unique, personal touch that made this castle stand out from all the others we toured. The experience was enhanced by a well-done audio guide that provided rich historical context about the castle and the family who lived there. To our delight, a piper played in front of the castle every full hour — an unexpected but wonderful bonus that added to the atmosphere. The gardens were also stunning and provided a peaceful and picturesque end to our visit. Overall, a fantastic experience that we highly recommend to anyone exploring Scotland’s castles.

We had a fantastic experience at Blair Castle, the castle and gardens were all absolutely stunning and well maintained. The castle one way system really helped to see everything and it was well curated, each room highlighting a limited time period or individual family member. The gardens, especially the shady forest area, looked incredible on a blazing hot day. Walking under the massive trees to the sound of the piper was atmospheric to say the least. Well worth the price to help maintain this magnificent place.

I don’t know how we’ve missed this place on past trips. It’s incredible. We only did the grounds and could have easily spent a day just on the grounds. The tall trees are breathtaking. The garden was still interesting, even though it’s starting to head into dormancy. You truly need a few hours to really explore everything. There is a nice children’s play area too. We will definitely plan for a full day there on our next trip!

We went here for the Highland Games in May 2025. It was a fantastic venue. The crowds were awesome. The castle army is the only one left in the United Kingdom. They were amazing. Their band, uniforms, and professionalism were amazing. Beautiful castle with the Highland mountains surrounding it. It’s a beautiful place.

We very much enjoyed the Blair castle. It was a little bit of a walk from the parking lot to the castle but it was well worth it. The inside of the castle was completely furnished and had people in rooms that could tell you about its contents and the people that once lived there. The gardens were Immaculate and beautiful.

Blair castle is a lovely place, you self tour the castle. There is highland coo's, deer, adventure playground, cafe, toilets , plenty of parking, piper plays on the hour, deer feeding at 12:30 and 14:30, lots of walks , lovely gardens and sculpture trail , staff very helpful and pleasant .

Came here with our English Bulldog to spend a nice afternoon. And indeed we did. The earliest known part of the present castle dates from 1269. In 1740 the 2nd Duke began his transformation of the medieval castle into a Georgian house. A remodel to the exterior of the castle happened in the 1860s/70s. Later on architects Jamie Troughton and Hugh Broughton constructed a new exhibition hall known as the Banvie Hall. And that's now how the Castle stands here until today. We did book the admission to the Park and Grounds online and saved some money. There were a good number of visitors, but no problem finding a parking space - there's plenty of it only a short stroll from the castle. Admission with 9.50£ was a very fair deal. We were just in time to listen to the bagpipes, which were played hourly (until a certain time). Very nice - we love bagpipes. And to sit there on the bench, listening and with the Blair Castle in the background was just a wonderful moment. Then we went to the Deer Park, watching the wildlife. Then through the woods and Diana's Grove. A nice trail through the forest, with some nice creeks and a beautiful little bridge. Then onto St. Bride's Kirk. From there to the Blair Castle Gardens. Then back again to the Castle. Suprisingly few visitors along the paths. Really wonderful grounds here. Nice walks - nice nature and landscape. The Castle is pretty and the park offers nice ways and paths to spend some hours here. Also of course a restaurant, a shop, a nice playground and toilets. We really had a great time here. Dogs allowed on the grounds was a great thing. A real good visit, well worth the fair-priced admission.

Lovely castle where dukes and dignitaries would meet in times gone by. Beautiful architecture. Fully of history. There is so much to see inside and outside. Feeding the red deer and seeing Highland coos up close was special. I can recommend it for either half a day or a.whole day if you want to go on some gentle walks. play area for children noted also.

Lovely walk! Scenic and full of nature while being accessible for wheelchairs and folk who can’t walk that far – the walk around the lake is just over a kilometre. There are some ups and downs, but I had no problem with my powerchair. Even though the walk was short, there was so much to see: old, mossy woods, fascinating rock outcroppings and my personal highlight – a heron in flight and lots of evidence of hungry beavers!

As part of my 60th birthday presents, my daughter's had arranged to take me to see The Enchanted Forest. It was my 1st time and totally loved it. My daughter's had been before to see the event, which they totally loved, and to check how disabled friendly it actually was. With being disabled they had bought a ticket for disabled parking and they said it was so much easier doing this than getting on a bus in Pitlochry. The Stewards/staff were so very helpful and friendly. A couple of times when we had stopped to watch an attraction, they would approach us and speak to me asking how I was enjoying the experience etc. which was very nice. Last year when my daughter's went (it was raining) and they found a few parts of the walk slippery. But this year, I had no issues with the walkways. One Steward explained that from the money raised from previous year's they reinvest money back into the Event and they had upgraded the walkways 😊.. which meant that 1/2 way round when the rain came on this year, there was no slippery parts of the path while finishing the experience. I would totally recommend this event to anyone, especially people with mobility issues 😊. I've found a few (while being on holiday) have stated Disable friendly but were not exactly 100% easy to do/use/experience. Definitely no issues at The Enchanted Forest, Pitlochry 😊.

Ben Vrackie is a mountainous site that can be accessed through various trails, with an optional steep climb that offers panoramic views from the top. The ascent may be a bit challenging due to some steep sections, but there are steps in place to make it easier. This Corbett is quite popular and boasts lovely vistas from its summit.
If you are in Pitlochry and have couple of hours it’s a highly recommend place, one of the best hiking you will ever experience. Recently I did this and it was quite snowing and windy, pretty cold, enjoyed the walk very much ❤️❤️❤️views are absolutely insane, just beautiful 👌

Good view up at Ben Vrackie. Spend around 3.5 hr to the top and back. A bit steep and windy just after the lake on the way up.
SUNNY D — Google review
Lovely walk, beautiful views on a clear day. Fairly steady walk until you get to the Loch, then it's a steep incline to the top that is pretty challenging. It took us roughly 3 and a half hours start to finish. If you're taking a dog I'd recommend taking a long line as there's quite a lot of sheep and deer about.
Tan C — Google review
A reasonably steep start through the trees, a gentle open middle section to the beautiful Loch and then a steep climb to the trig point on top. Excellent distant views. About 3.5 hours round trip with stops
Rob J — Google review
If you're in the area, I highly recommend hiking Ben Vrackie. We got up early at 7:00 in May, and despite the initial mist, it cleared up beautifully to reveal stunning views. Going up, the trail was pretty quiet, and we had the summit all to ourselves. The views from the top were absolutely breathtaking, and we could see for miles when it was clear. The hike down was busier with lots of hikers. While the hike was fairly easy at the bottom, the steps at the top make for a tough finish. Overall, a wonderful hike that is well worth it for the amazing views. About 3:15 moving and 4(ish) hours in total we we're staying quite close!
Rupert H — Google review
Worth the hike up to the top, half way up you meet the lake then it becomes quite steep with steps the rest of the way.
Andy M — Google review
The out and back walk up to Ben Vrackie is a great day out. As others have said, it is not a walk to be taken lightly. The first section up through the woods from the car park is straightforward. As you emerge from the woods, you have a walk uphill on a good path across the open moorland, with the route ahead clearly visible. From this angle, the route up to the summit of Ben Vrackie looks intimidating. The pull up to Loch Choire seems to take some time but is never arduous, that said, it is open and exposed to the weather. Once at the loch, the hard work begins, as there is a long winding path, made mainly of well made rock steps that looked steep and difficult from afar, but is actually relatively simple. There are a lot of steps, but it is never too exposed or steep. The final leg takes some stamina, but we managed it with some 11 year olds. The summit itself is great, no steep drops and wonderful views - a superb spot to drink in the views. The easiest way back is to retrace one’s steps. This makes a great big hill for a family of fit and well equipped hikers. Make sure you take warm layers, and a map and compass.
Charlie K — Google review
Fairly easy walk upto the lake, great for those who arent hardcore hikers or just starting out, there is a number of benches to catch your breath/rest or to admire the scenery, last section is steps the rest of the way and the hardest part of the trail but the incredible views at the top are worth the effort Took me an hour and a half to reach summit from the furthest away car park as there is two car parks and a map to show other walks in the surrounding areas of Pitlochry

The Falls of Bruar, located between Blair Atholl and Pitlochry, is a series of captivating waterfalls that have been a popular attraction in Perthshire for many years. Visitors can embark on a scenic circular walking route from the House of Bruar carpark, crossing charming stone bridges and enjoying views of the tumbling cascades. This picturesque setting inspired renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns and offers an easily accessible hike suitable for most visitors.
A lovely spot for an easy, unhurried walk. There’s a circular route that our two kids and dog managed with no problem. Beautiful mountain views, a few waterfalls, and stunningly clear water. There are even a couple of benches at the top to rest and take it all in.
Ksya C — Google review
The lovely walk to the falls is much more pleasant because Robert Burns convinced the Duke of Atholl to plant trees. Watching people slide down the rocks into the water was quite entertaining.

Lovely walk next to the shopping centre - sounds weird I know!! But so peaceful - the falls were incredible. Parked for free and used the wonderful courtyard cafe afterwards
Tracey M — Google review
If you’re in the area then this walk won’t take long - 1hr or less. Good paths and plenty of seating along the way. Free parking and plenty of shopping at House of Bruar.
M L — Google review
Stunning scenery and a lovely short walk. Give it about 45 minutes to get all the way around with a couple of stops to take in the beautiful Scottish wilds.
Balefire L — Google review
The Falls of Bruar rose to prominence in the late 18th century, immortalised by Robert Burns, who penned a poem imploring the Duke of Atholl to enrich the stark landscape with trees. The Duke obliged, and today visitors are treated to a serene, wooded gorge that became a favourite retreat during the Victorian era. There are two main cascades—lower and upper—and reaching them involves a modest uphill walk. It’s not overly demanding; 30 to 45 minutes will comfortably suffice unless one chooses to continue further into the forested trails. The setting is utterly tranquil, rich in greenery and fresh air, and although the waterfalls themselves are not vast, the experience is undeniably rewarding. Do bear in mind, however, that the terrain may pose challenges for those with limited mobility. Conveniently, there is a free car park, a selection of shops nearby, and a café offering refreshments and light bites for those wishing to relax before or after their walk.

Beautiful walk up the Falls - could've spent a lot of time there but had limited time unfortunately. Definitely will go back, especially Autumn time as there will be more water then to make the falls even more spectacular 😍

Schiehallion is a Highland summit that stands at 1,083 metres and is known as a popular hiking spot, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. The climb can be challenging due to its steepness, making it not recommended for those who are unsure footed.
It was a beautiful hike. I felt like I was out of shape. There’s a trail for most of the part and then once you get to the rock area it’s kinda hard but just keep moving and you’ll get to the top.
Ryan B — Google review
Really easy munro to climb (about 5h there and back for me), just over half the route is on a gravel path. Rest of the journey is over stones which require some scrambling, but shouldn't pose a problem for most people. Good view from the top, especially if the weather is good. Due to it being one of the easier munros it can be busy at the top.
Benjamin M — Google review
This Munro known as the Fairy Hill of Caledonians, stands tall with its beautiful conical shape from afar. Thanks to its well-defined path from the Brae of Foss entrance to the summit at 3553 ft, it is one of the easiest climbs. I fear heights, yet I found this hike less intimidating than my previous three Munros. While some say the hike can be completed in 5-6 hours, we took 7 hours, enjoying breaks and the breathtaking views. Good hiking boots are a must, as the path is filled with boulders and rocks, especially near the top. It can be hazardous, so I give it a 4-star review. Hiking poles were essential for me, especially with my bad knee. On a warm May day, we came prepared with plenty of food, water, and snack bars, though a bit more water would have been wise. I finished about 1.5 litres, and it was almost not enough. Be cautious of small, fragmented rocks on the way down. Gravity can make the path slippery, and I almost slipped, but my poles saved me. I hope this review inspires you ☺️ Enjoy every moment of your journey to the top. 🍀💕
Caroline M — Google review
The Faerie Mountain is definitely captivating from a long distance away, and quite pretty close up. The view from Brae of Foss is particularly enjoyable, and a good road takes you up a good way to make the hike shorter.

Such a wonderful Munro in the north eastern of Southern Highlands, end of the Glen Lyon valley and with stunning views over to The Cairngorms and Glencoe plains
Rob G — Google review
Great mountain to climb. Fantastic path most of the way, large boulder field to cross to get to the summit.
Joanne R — Google review
Took 6 hrs for us to get to top and back… we’re all over 60 🙂 Check the weather before you go - at the top there was no view because of mist and rain. There’s really no more trail for the last 1/2 mile or more which made for slow going having to carefully watch each step on the jumble of loose rocks that you have to negotiate. Well worth it though.
Rob B — Google review
If this is one of the easier munros then god help me trying to do any others 😂 in all seriousness, this was the first time I attempted any and while it was rough going as we didn’t anticipate the rocky terrain higher up (and I have a chronic illness which, yknow, adds a whole other thing) - we made it to the summit! And my first! Be warned - there’s multiple false summits and lots of scrambling over rocks higher up. But the lower half is a walkable path and a decent enough climb for those wanting a lil hike without climbing the whole thing. We took it easy and had plenty of pit stops along the way, chatting to folks as we went. We even spotted a few sheep roaming around (maybe a note for the dog walkers out there 😂) Also, toilets and a parking lot down near the bottom!

Also there is a ice cream parlour near by that's sells ice creams and fish and chips.

Nestled just four miles southwest of Aberfeldy, the Croft Moraig Stone Circle, also known as Croftmoraig, is a captivating prehistoric site that beckons history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. First excavated in 1965, this remarkable monument showcases three distinct phases of construction, beginning with fourteen timber posts arranged in a horseshoe shape.
We stopped by after reading about this stone circle being a unique one with a double circle. Did not disappoint! It really is a beautiful and mystic site. Easy access as well. Don’t drive up the drive way as this is private but park at the bottom of the entrance. There’s a gate that will lead you to the stone circle.
Vesrasurya — Google review
Toby visited the ancient stone circle with noble purpose: to commune with his ancestors, gaze into the mysteries of time, and possibly pee on something 5,000 years old. The circle stood in stoic silence, weathered and mossy, radiating a sort of “we’ve seen things” energy. Toby took a moment of quiet reflection, the wind whispering through the grass, the stones looming with ancient dignity. Then a Vauxhall Corsa drove by blasting '90s dance music. The spiritual connection wobbled, but Toby powered through. He sniffed each stone with reverence, as if decoding a message only dogs could read. No ghostly howls, no celestial visions—just a sheep darting by and the faint scent of damp lichen. Was he impressed? Not quite. Was he satisfied? Weirdly, yes. For a 5,000-year-old circle, it held up. 3.5 stars—would visit again with snacks and fewer cars.

A small ancient stone circle quite near the road. Parking is hit-or-miss. Respecting that it was on a working farm and we were parked on the edge of the road, we didn’t stay long.
Chris W — Google review
No parking facilities. No on site access. Remote viewing only from about 30 metres.
Mark P — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. There is a gate near the road you can enter by, parking is tricky but we managed.
Morgan — Google review
Fantastic stone circle, easily accessible from the road with good parking, a gate for easy access and information board. If you like this also go to St David's well above Weem
David B — Google review
Amazing stone circle and a must see for me on my trip. My Imran so late that it was dark the time I got there 😔 it is so nice, and easy find and to access from the road side, you can't miss it. Unless of course it's dark.

Magical. Lovely to spend 15 minutes to half an hour at

Linn of Tummel, located in Perthshire, Scotland, offers one of the best views in Britain at Queen's View. The area can be reached on foot from Pitlochry or Garry Bridge and features a large car park at Garry Bridge. Visitors can follow a path underneath the bridge along the river to reach the falls. The route includes an old fish ladder and wooden bridge with great views of the falls.
Easy parking in two locations to this beautiful area. Be aware that there are no toilets here.

Can be reached on foot from Pitlochry or Garry Bridge. I parked at Garry Bridge where there is a large car park because it can get busy and followed path down underneath the bridge and along the river. Interesting route to the falls, over an old fish ladder by wooden bridge. Great views of it. Autumn colours are good just now (October). There were people going over the falls in tubes. Took 20 mins to get there. Good path with a staircase and other concrete steps
Joseph K — Google review
Stunning views, so tranquil and beautiful to be in nature. We camped further up Loch Tummel and came to explore the scenery. Walked up and over Garry Bridge further up as well. Really breathtaking views.
Drew K — Google review
Stunning falls, gorgeous walks in the area. In the summer months expect to see kayakers and Rafts hurtling down the falls. Great for wild swimming below the falls.
Dani D — Google review
A quiet place, surrounded by nature. The sign for the trail is hard to see if you're not paying attention, but it's opposite the parking lot. Go down a path for maximum 2 minutes. There are rocks where you can sit and even picnic in nature. Nice, clean and it's like a getaway from the city.
Ana J — Google review
Lovely and quiet walk to the falls.
Ilonka R — Google review
Lots of great trails to follow and stunning views. Best to go in autumn for the stunning mix of colours. There are some steep stairs in places but the paths are good
Adam B — Google review
A pleasant area to walk around, the paths are well trodden, initial access is via steps at the side of Garry Bridge. There is a map nearby showing the routes to the falls, and also to Killiecrankie.

History Museums
Pitlochry and Moulin Heritage Centre is a local history museum situated in ancient Moulin, along the historic Edinburgh-Inverness Highway. The center showcases the rich history of the town, with exhibits detailing the passage of kings, queens, and armies through the area. Visitors can explore beautiful gravestones erected in honor of children and husbands who lost their lives. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, offering demonstrations and sharing insights about the town's heritage.
An amazing local History Museum in ancient Moulin located along the ancient Edinburgh-Inverness Highway. Kings, Queens & Armies marched this way.

Cute. I walked uphill to Moulin but the heritage centre was closed. They were within the old church but the roof is leaking. I accidentally found out reading the other church's notice board that the heritage centre is in the Gladstone Room at Fisher's Hotel.
Boris H — Google review
The Heritage Centre is moved away. Unfortunately the information about this issue is not at the main door but at the side door on the left. The new destination is in Fishers Hotel Pitlochry. Maybe it's necessary to add the information at the front door 😉.

First time visiting and was impressed, although I didn't find anything about the place I was looking for. Friendly, helpful chap there on the day I visited.
Susan S — Google review
It's sadly beautiful to read the stones. So many children and husbands died. Beautiful gravestones erected in their honors by the women.
Pettertor — Google review
Excellent - so much to look at and learn about the history of the town. Well worth a visit.

46Dunalastair House

Historical landmark
We loved our time there, it's literally in the middle of nowhere You can't visit the house but you're doing a turn around it
Valentine P — Google review
If you are in passing by, pull up & take an hours stroll in the woods to visit Dunalastair House. We entered at the cottage and admired the ornate metal gates raring about their maker online (quite interesting Glaswegian chap), enjoyed a stroll on well paved roads. To circle the house entirely requires you to walk on uneven ground full of roots & trees. The house itself is beautiful with many features and flourishes to spot. It’s completely fenced off with barbed wire but the innards of the house are completely overgrown & dilapidated and can be seen easily from a distance. There is a small cemetery near by too. Spotted several birds, a long worm, grouse and farm animals during lambing.
Rose T — Google review
Being a Robertson I always wanted to visit this place. Yes ok it's not very much to look at now but still interesting. Parking at entrance but don't block the gate. Free to walk around.
Brian — Google review
Short walk from the main road as this is on private property but pedestrians are allowed. Definitely nice place to check when you sre around
Petra B — Google review
Fascinating architecture. Really is such a beautiful building but I wouldn't bother going. Access is extremely limited. No parking signs everywhere you think might be a good spot and to be fair you probably couldn't enforce it but not worth hassle with locals. People say park on the roadside but it is not safe so please don't do this.
Jackson — Google review
So neat. Only ones there. Right off a little gravel road. Can't believe its there.
ValleyWest — Google review
First point: access to this is on private land so be respectful. Very interesting ruined Manor House. Roadside parking only, and the house is accessible through a gate and there is a very descent track up to the property and it's about 700m - a very slow 10 minute walk. You are able to walk around about 95% of it, and there is a fence all the way around to prevent access to the building.
Mark G — Google review
Many call it a Castle ruins, but reality is it's a house that was built on the land of Clan Robertson's Castle that had burned down many many years before the Dunalastair house was ever built. The house has a great history all to it's own.
