Nestled in the vibrant, street-art adorned neighborhood of Sydenham, Hello Sunday is a charming café housed in a historic 19th-century cottage that once served as a post office and later as a Baptist Church Sunday School. This delightful spot has become renowned for its exceptional brunch offerings, featuring everything from wholesome chia pudding topped with stone fruit and mango foam to indulgent treats like cinnamon brioche and Korean fried chicken drizzled with barbecue sauce and kimchi.
Hello Sunday is so good every day of the week! I've been here twice this year, which is also how many times I've been to Christchurch this year lol! The Eggs Benedict is simply fantastic, right up there with the best I have had anywhere. Whenever I am back in Christchurch this cafe is on my "must visit" list, no question! Oh, and great tea as well, thank you (from a non-coffee drinker!).
Genevieve M — Google review
We had a wonderful breakfast at Hello Sunday. The food was absolutely delicious – the beef hash was divine, and even our kids kept sneaking bites! The staff were lovely and very accommodating, even going the extra mile to split the kids’ drink into two glasses to avoid any sibling rivalry. The only small downside was that we were seated in a side room, which lacked some of the main café’s ambience. Overall though, a fantastic spot for breakfast and we’ll definitely be back.
Joe — Google review
Absolutely loved this place, the atmosphere and food was wonderful! I chose this place for my breakfast brunch because I was told it’s lovely and it definitely lived up to my expectations. The staff were very accommodating and sweet. Thank you for making it a memorable day for me. Would definitely come back again <3

An absolute must if you are in Christchurch! Would have to appear in my top 3 of all time. The beef cheeks were mind blowing, so rich and moreish. Beautiful building, wonderful staff. Don’t miss a chance to have a stunning brunch.
Bryan M — Google review
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Special mention to how good the coffee was too! I’d definitely be back as the rest of the food on the menu looks amazing to try
Nicole B — Google review
Cute place with lovely atmosphere. It was definitely on me to order sweet on sweet. The decadent mocha was a bit overkill as it was really sweet.. the french toast was good, i would get them again next time. Eggs benny had a really great bacon on it. Overall good
Claudia V — Google review
Beef cheek hash was fire 🔥, salmon kinda mid, and the matcha powder tasted a bit weird ngl. But staff were super nice and the dogs there are literal angels 🐾 Loved the chill vibe tho.
Arwen — Google review
Came in today to try the Beef Cheek Hash I’ve heard so much about and WOW, it was absolutely delicious. Along side of brewing a great coffee, the staff are always welcoming and have a smile on their faces. Would definitely recommend Hello Sunday for a brunch spot whenever in town. And if you ever just feel like a sweet treat…… I’m a sucker for their incredible Biscoff Scroll.

Nestled in Christchurch Central City at 294 Kilmore Street, Little Poms is a beloved neighborhood cafe renowned for its cozy ambiance and diverse menu. This charming spot offers a delightful array of breakfast options, including innovative dishes like beef brisket with potato rosti alongside classic favorites. The cafe also features an impressive selection of local craft beer and wine, making it a versatile choice for lunch or casual drinks. To secure a table during busy periods, guests are advised to make reservations in advance.
One of the best cafe's around and one I will 100% return to when in Christchurch. The food is exceptional. They have the classic breakfast options that everyone loves but put their own little spin on it to make things exciting. The Chipotle hollandaise and the avocado Salsa take the eggs benny to the next level. The smoked ricotta with the scrambled eggs made a simple breakfast really amazing. The smoothies are fantastic, so sweet and refreshing, a perfect start to the day. Some smoothies are very watery and plain. You don't get that issue here. The service was brilliant. All staff were very friendly and helpful, made you feel really welcome. If the management were to read this, then I would suggest some curtains or something for the top part of the window. I was sat opposite my partner, and the sun was in my eyes the whole time

We arrived, and were informed that the kitchen will close in 5 minutes. I wanted to leave but my wife asked if we order straight away, would it be ok? Answer yes, and we proceeded to order immediately. This was a mistake as they burnt, our meals in order to get them out. Please attached photos the mushrooms on my meal , and the corn on my wife's was burnt. Please see attached photos. Plus they cleaned all around us. At the prices this was a very bad experience. Timeline of this. Website- closes at 3 pm. Opens at 5pm Arrived 2:23 pm ordered and received food at 2:36, now cleaners all around us wiping windows, vacuuming, washing and scrubbing grills and cleaning tables as soon as people left. Closed section including toilets at 2:45 we ate and left by 2: 50 and we were last out of the door. They should close doors at 2pm let people finish by 2:30pm and clean up from 2:30 to 3 and pay the wages for this. I looked back and we have been coming here for years, and I originally gave them Stirling reviews, but alas it is no longer.

Little Poms was excellent and probably the second-best meal we’ve had while travelling around New Zealand. We ordered a hot chocolate and an iced chocolate, both made with their homemade chocolate sauce, which was delicious. They were easily some of the best hot and iced chocolates we’ve had. The cappuccino and latte were also very well made. For food, we tried the ricotta blueberry hotcakes, chilli scrambled eggs, and the breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was a nice portion size and didn’t make you feel heavy after eating it. The ham was really good, and the flavours were well balanced. The ricotta blueberry hotcakes were beautifully made and presented, not overly sweet, with a nice tartness from the berries and berry sauce. The vanilla ricotta balanced the flavours perfectly. The chilli scramble was also excellent, with well-seasoned mushrooms and a nice balance of flavours. The banana smoothie was very good as well. The atmosphere was lovely, and even though the café was busy, it was still easy to have a conversation without too much noise. The café itself is decorated beautifully, and the toilets were clean and well maintained. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth a visit.

We stopped in for a quick bite and shared a brisket sandwich and fries which was just perfect. Small tearoom looking restaurant. Service fast and friendly. Would have been nice to have a few fast cabinet food items to choose from.
Cheryl C — Google review
Popped in for a quick coffee. The espresso macchiato was excellent. Even thought I only ordered a coffee, it was served with a carafe of water and a small drinking glass. No corners were cut. The service was professional. Very nice cafe to sit in. Quiet and calm. My visit was in the earlier part of the morning; quite a few people were on their laptops or having a meeting.
Fa — Google review
The combination of high-quality coffee and grilled halloumi was excellent, and the warm, cozy interior blended perfectly with the friendly staff. I’ll definitely be visiting again.

Beautiful little pub with most probably the best Benne breakfast in nz. Couple of perfect eggs on avo and corn smash with bacon served on some fresh in house cheese scones. And the mocha. Hands down best dressed mocha I’ve come across.

Cafe
Unknown Chapter Coffee Roasters is a charming café in Christchurch with floor-length windows that flood the space with natural light. The café boasts a beautiful coffee roaster on display, hinting at their upcoming coffee roasting project. Guests can enjoy people-watching from seats tucked beneath wide windows or relax in the cozy outdoor area on sunny days.
Perfect Spot for Breakfast or Brunch! Unknown Chapter has the ideal balance of great food, coffee, and atmosphere. The vibe is relaxed, with plants hanging from the ceiling that give it a fresh, almost jungle-like feel. Their menu is extensive, with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians, alongside freshly made sandwiches and hot dishes. They roast their own coffee in-house, which really shines through in the beautiful soy flat white – smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. We ordered the halloumi sandwich, freshly toasted, paired with a large soy flat white. It was so good we ended up ordering it again to share! Hot food and hot coffee – the ultimate brunch combination. It’s a buzzing spot that fills up quickly, but with super-fast service and walk-ins welcome, it’s absolutely worth the visit.
Aanchal S — Google review
A very tasty brunch spot in the city centre. There aren’t many breakfast options around, but this one is definitely a great choice. I loved their French toast and eggs benedict with crispy bacon — really memorable. The place gets very busy, so it can be quite noisy inside. Sitting outside by the street might be a better choice. Also, the ventilation could be improved as there was quite a strong cooking smell indoors.
Cooper — Google review
We had breakfast here on Monday morning. The restaurant was busy but beautifully decorated. We tried the French toast and a sandwich, and both were really tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were super friendly—they even offered us extra utensils when they saw we were sharing our food. Highly recommend!
T A — Google review
Popped up for a coffee and a snack w a friend and I must say I have a new favourite cafe! Please don’t hesitate trying their raspberry and chocolate muffin (great size for the price) and decaf coffee. They have it weighted & ground it straightaway when you order. Staff was amazing, the place is spotless and people come to work w their laptops. Also, their hanging plants are real! Don’t mind the stairs in the photo, they were just watering them before closing. Cheers guys! ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

The atmosphere on a Sunday morning is simply amazing! Locals and visitors alike gather here to chat and connect over excellent coffee and pastries. I tried the walnut and date cake — it was absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely come back if I’m ever back in New Zealand!
Benson N — Google review
The food is so good!Everyone is local surroundings, except us😆
Vance W — Google review
I’ve been here a couple of times, the coffee is always excellent, they really know what they’re doing. Service was pleasant and fast despite it being fairly rammed, without loss of quality on the plate as you can see by my photos. The halloumi wasn’t strong enough for my taste and the rosti not quite crispy enough but there’s really nothing to complain about.
Richard Y — Google review
We came here for breakfast before our flight, after a 12 day trip across the country. We ordered smaller items, such as the banana bread, scones, chicken roll and a couple of coffees. Every item was well done and felt like it was made with love. Eating here made us less unhappy about leaving the country and ending our amazing trip. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The Origin in St Albans offers a sophisticated and beautiful Scandinavian atmosphere that will delight all your senses. The menu features dishes like balsamic roast vege salad, Udon noodle spiced tomato soup with fried tofu or suro, and roasted peanuts. This vegan eatery is known for its great coffee and an impressive selection of specialty teas.
We went here only once, during our quest to try all 100% vegan spots in Christchurch, but definitely not because of the food or coffee quality. In fact, the breakfast we had, (Pancakes and Big Brekky) was absolutely delicious. The coffee was flawless, too! I wish we would have had more time to try the asian dishes, as well. Next time!:)
Mindfuldave — Google review
Seriously can’t recommend The Origin enough, it’s truly exceptional. These were some of the best vegan breakfast dishes we’ve ever tried. The presentation of the food was better than most restaurants, the taste was amazing and portion sizes were 👌 I wish I could give the service 10 stars. Very professional and polite. Every other cafe could learn a thing or two from The Origin. The space itself is modern, bright and clean atmosphere. Perfect for a Sunday brunch or a coffee. Will 100% be back when visiting Christchurch 😁
Marcel W — Google review
For my friend’s wedding, the 5-course meals were specially prepared and served at Origin Café. 100% pure vegan, exquisitely crafted and beautifully presented—an absolutely stunning experience.
Sabrina W — Google review
Such an interesting place. Everything is good except the food. Food looks amazing but tasted…not even mid? The pancake had only 1 taste; too sweet. The matcha banana shake was like mushy bananas only…Such a shame, cause the staff members are very nice, the place has a very calming atmosphere and design. Hopefully they will create new menu or change the recipes.
Farida M — Google review
The Origin caught our eye with its promising vegetarian menu and glowing reviews. We were immediately impressed by the lovely staff who made us feel right at home, even letting us choose our table and order when ready. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Our food took 35 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the rice was only warm and the dish itself was extremely bland. The burger was small with a patty that was incredibly thin, and the hash browns were soggy, clearly needing more time to cook. The noodle dish had an okay flavour, but overall, it was a unanimous "no" from our group of three. While it might have been an off day in the kitchen, based on our experience, we won't be returning.
Bianca T — Google review
Great vibe and great food! We are bummed we haven’t been here before! My partner said it was one of his favorite meals he’s had in Christchurch ☺️
Joyce Y — Google review
One of the best vegan cafes in the city! It’s well hidden in Papanui, far from the main attractions, but definitely worth coming over, especially that it’s only vegan cafes open on the weekends. Everything is delicious, starting form barista made coffee, throughout cabinet food options of the day and ending in a la carte menu options and desserts. Poke bowl is indeed a must try ! Mapo tofu set is another solid option if you are super hungry. Jackfruit pretzel sandwich was just delicious, well seasoned and yummy sauce. On a top of that service is really polite ! Place gets crowded on the weekend for brunch so make sure to make a booking or come early!
Rafael ( — Google review
Really nice and chilled vegan cafe! We had the tofu, the fried rice & noodle soup with lassis! Everything was very delicious - only one comment -the rice was missing some flavour - they all came out relatively fast! Staff was friendly! We’ll be back :)

Child Sister is a charming café with a bright and airy atmosphere that offers a menu with Korean influences. The café is known for its inventive and visually appealing dishes, such as the kimchi rice omelet and gochujang shakshuka. Customers have praised the excellent food, friendly service, and good coffee. The staff's attentive and caring attitude has left patrons impressed.
I’d heard a lot of good things about kimchi fried rice, so I decided to give it a try—and it was so good! Big portion, super tasty, and just a little spicy for me, but the mayo balanced it out perfectly. Tried their coffee the other day too, and it was just as good. No wonder this place is always packed!
Hee — Google review
I’ve eaten and had coffee here a few times now, and honestly the food is really good, and the coffee is great too, so I would definitely recommend for that reason. I had heard about the waffle fries, which were definitely tasty, however I’m disappointed that it didn’t mentioned on the menu the cheese that comes on them. I find the staff very nice, but customer service doesn’t always feel like top priority. They don’t have any wifi so not a great place to do work/study etc, and they don’t have a tendency to answer the phone. All round though, it’s worth a visit.
Ames — Google review
We loved the atmosphere at Child Sister - simple and charming. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating. Our favorites were the kimchi rice omelette and the honey butter waffle fries. The coffee was good too. We’ll definitely be back.
Buena P — Google review
Today, my friend and I went to eat lunch and we had a pleasant experience. We ordered Kimchi Rice Omelette, Honey Butter Maple Chips and Fried Chicken. We were surprised about how fast the food arrived! Our personal favourite was the Kimchi Rice Omelette. It’s flavourful and tasty. The Honey Butter Maple Chips were delicious too with the nice strong Honey Butter flavour. Lastly, fried chicken was sort of dry but my friend enjoyed the skinny chips😄 I also want to mention the immaculate vibes throughout the café from the interior to the workers. It feels as if I’m in LA café. Overall, we highly recommend and we’ll come again👍
Angela L — Google review
Pork meat balls shakshuka was delicious, good coffee. Staff were friendly enough, quite busy talking with each other instead of serving. Tables dirty not wiped and cleaned from previous customers. Less talky more worky 😉

2nd visit to child sister. This time we are there on Sunday 10am and it was full and had to wait around 10-15 mins. We love the food there. Hope to have more menu options.
Evin L — Google review
A solid cafe with some great atypical menu items for Christchurch! The place was packed when we went (it always seems to be busy), but the service was great (you have to order at the counter), and so fast! The coffee is excellent, staff are friendly and efficient and the food is delicious. You can see why Child Sister is an award winning cafe. Well worth a visit.

Decided to try it out as were looking for a good meal and it was amazing! Got Eggs Benedict, Staple Sandwich, Corn Fritters and a Bowl of Chips. Drinks were an iced chocolate, Americano with cream and ginger beers from the fridge. All food was fabulous and service was super good. Really impressed with almost restaurant standard meals and gorgeous looking cabinet food too. Would 100% come again!

Omg the beef brisket was fire🤤🤤 So tender and went perfectly with the sauce! Coffee was on point too. Chill vibes, great food.. why not? Highly recommend this spot!!

My husband and I have brunch here recently when in Christchurch for a weekend away, without kids, and really enjoyed it. The food was top notch. I’m gluten intolerant and don’t normally have many options but I had quite a few choices. My husband went with the breakfast stack and it did not disappoint, other than the fact he couldn’t finish it as he didn’t want to overstuff himself for the road trip home! I got the pancakes, what a treat! They were delicious and I absolutely did finish them! We both got coffees, which were so drinkable we wanted more. We have recommended this place already!

Black Betty is always a win. Great coffee, awesome food, and a really cool vibe. I had the Stacey’s Stack—so good. Portions are solid, staff are friendly, and it’s just one of those places you keep going back to. Highly recommend!

The food here is exquisite. My husband and I split two dishes, The Goods and the Brioche French toast. I’ve haven’t had a better brunch ever. Portion sizes are substantial, the flavours mix well. Riverside Market is a vibrant indoor market featuring a variety of retailers offering locally sourced food, along with restaurants, cafes, and bars. Originally established as a temporary solution after the 2011 earthquake, it has evolved into a popular destination for food enthusiasts and shoppers. The market offers an array of freshly baked goods, organic produce, seafood, coffee beans, and other delectable treats from local farmers and artisans.
As an Aucklander, Riverside Market is such a vibrant and lively place to visit. I love the atmosphere — full of amazing food stalls, fresh produce, and unique little shops. It’s always busy and full of good vibes. I first visited in July to see my friend’s stall, Indo Tempeh House, and went back again last Friday because I enjoyed it so much. A great spot to eat, explore, and support small businesses. Highly recommend!
J. B — Google review
A nice place to visit to get a variety of food and drinks. Came on Friday evening thus not many retail shops opened, but food selection is not short of choices. There are also neighbouring restaurants that you can dine in or simply takeaway.
Michael — Google review
One of the few spots in Christchurch that we went which has a good crowd, even if it’s just opening hours with some stalls still barely opened. A good mix of food options, from a proper meal to bakeries and cafes to even fruit juices. There’s also a relatively clean toilet which is shared, with about 6 cubicles in all. The outdoor shops are not to be missed too, we got ourselves some magnets after a stroll there, and even visited a chocolate specialty shop in the alley too.
YY — Google review
What a great place for an incredible variety of food! Love this place cause you can grab a pizza, followed up with sushi, have a whiskey tasting, then eat some of the most delicious cookies you’ve ever had. It’s reminiscent of the legendary Chelsea Market in New York City. I definitely plan to return here whenever I’m in Christchurch.
Ben R — Google review
Riverside Market is a dazzling fusion of casual market energy and refined dining. For someone seeking excellent Chinese fare (Midnight Shanghai), fresh raw fish & sushi (Hikari Sushi Train), varied global eats, cafes, shops, and a lively ambience, it delivers exceptionally well. It’s not perfect — during peak times it can feel bustling, and certain dishes may vary slightly in freshness — but the positives so strongly outweigh the occasional misstep that I’d confidently rate it 5 stars.
Umair — Google review
Wow! As an Aucklander that has only ever traveled to the south island once before, I was very impressed with the Riverside market. This place has been set up well and has multiple vendors that have excellent offerings. What a beautiful spot to dine in, and the food we tried was delicious!!
Em G — Google review
Great place to explore with lots of variety! Indoor and outdoor spaces are both really nice. Plenty of food options to try — highly recommend the Beef Steak Souvlaki. Worth a visit!
Jay V — Google review
Don’t visit if you’re hungry! There’s so many delicious spots to have a meal or two, get a warm beverage, overindulge on delicious desserts, and take home some artisan cheeses and Mediterranean kitchen staples. There are a variety of restaurants that make it hard to choose which meal to try first, but I would definitely recommend Katmandu to try the momo!

Westend Stories is a popular spot known for its incredible food with a unique twist. The loaded chicken waffles with bacon and the full Westend are highly recommended dishes. The warm and inviting atmosphere, along with lovely staff, adds to the experience. Visitors also praise the beautiful presentation of the food and its delicious taste. It's conveniently located for those coming from the cruise terminal and is considered a great place for brunch, offering delicious food and great coffee.
I had a lovely experience at Westend Stories. The smashed peas and avocado dish was absolutely amazing—so fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The food overall was fantastic, coming out quickly and tasting great, which made for a really enjoyable meal. The space itself is inviting and well-designed, offering a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to sit and enjoy your time. While the customer service was decent, there’s room for a bit more warmth and attentiveness. The coffee was just okay—not particularly memorable, but it paired well with the meal.

A fantastic brunch spot in the heart of Christchurch! The décor and atmosphere is modern yet welcoming, with warm lighting that makes it feel inviting. The menu offers a great variety of brunch options with plenty of sides to choose from – salmon, bacon, rosti, avocado, and creamy mushrooms to name a few. I went with the Full Westend and especially enjoyed the corn salsa – it was a fresh and tasty twist I hadn’t had with eggs before. Definitely worth a visit if you’re after a delicious brunch in the city

Delicious place for some breakfast! Ice cream in the iced mocha was a little unexpected, but it's clearly marked on the menu and was quite pleasant. West end chicken was very well done, the milk toast was crispy and soft, chicken perfectly done, and the egg just right.

Grabbed the Smashed Greens with a cappuccino – really tasty, fresh and heaps of flavour. So good, will definitely be back!😍

Beautifully presented and tasty food with amazing friendly service. The decor was modern and light, although it was quite noisy, I suspect due to the high ceilings and concrete floors. Such a lovely place for a Sunday Brunch with a car parking building close by so you don’t have to search for one and it is also close to the town centre if you want to go for a stroll after brunch.

I ordered eggs on toast and asked for 3 extra eggs, but there was a little mix-up — the wait staff accidentally logged it as 3 full meals instead of 3 eggs. I was so shocked when three plates of food came out! 😅 Luckily, the staff were super quick to fix the mistake and handled it really well. The food was so good that I actually wished I had gone ahead and ordered all three plates! Good service, tasty food, and a fun experience.

Doubles is a popular spot with mixed reviews. Some visitors found the atmosphere unwelcoming and the seating not very inviting, while others enjoyed the beautiful aesthetic and delicious food like fried chicken waffles and vegan creamy mushrooms on toast. The staff was described as friendly, but there were complaints about long waiting times for food. Despite this, many praised the cafe's vibe and tasty offerings, making it a potential go-to spot for coffee and light bites in the city.
Such a pretty cafe with beautiful sunshine! The place looks absolutely amazing, and the location is perfect. The coffee was a bit strong for me, but it paired really well with the sweet French toast. And the French toast was bussin!! Honestly the best I’ve ever had. Also, there’s a bike rack right in front of the cafe, which made it super easy and safe to park my bike🙂

🍓: Delicious cabinet food, wonderful menu options and great drinks. Such good gluten free options here too! Everything we had was very yummy. ✨️: Good space with a paid parking lot right across the road. Right near the art gallery, so a great place to get brunch before exploring the city. If you're in Christchurch, Doubles is an absolute must-visit! Hands down, the best café in the city. The selection of gluten-free options is incredible — it’s not just a couple of items; it’s a whole range of delicious choices that cater to every craving. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or a sweet treat, they've got it all, and it’s insanely amazing. If you’re a foodie or just someone who appreciates incredible coffee and mouthwatering meals, Doubles Cafe is the spot. I can’t recommend it enough. Every visit is a treat! Yum doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Great atmosphere in city area. Lovely staffs, love the main tone picked for the cafe. The fried chicken with waffles and double York with mushrooms are amazing. Perfectly seasoned, personally love the gf bagel. Good coffees, great place for hangout in city.

We absolutely loved the savory chicken waffles! The French toast with berries was divine. Coffee was good and strong. Definitely going back next time we are I. Christchurch

This is a nice cafe in the city. Busy I must say given proximity to council office. Chicken is halal as per the service team. We had a nos of things and they all came out well. Serving size is appropriate to price and comparable to other places. Taste was good too We had chaat masala potato 23$ Omurice rice with chicken 29$ (a bigger serving would certainly help) Double eggs/yolk on a sourdough 14$ (this was too plain) Smoked salmon club champ 27$ (slight variation to eggs bene by using potato base) Waffle savory with chicken 26$ (this ws ok) Smoothies were expensive10.50 each and left quite a bit to be desired. Taste wise nothing special. Long black was fine 5$ Overall this is a good place for breakfast and coffee and certainly liked their variation. There is also cabinet food such as bagels cakes etc..
Ahsan S — Google review
One of my favourite places for brunch/lunch! Heaps of gluten-free options in the cabinet and on the menu and everything I’ve tried so far has been delicious. The gf chicken and waffles and the bowls are always a treat ☺️

I never give reviews so this is my first and most likely my last. But this place is definitely worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed eating here. I had the green smoothie and the marsala potatoes- both were delicious. I was with a large group and although my food was top notch I still got major food envy from others meals, so I will be back to try the other items on the menu. The chef definitely deserves a shout out!

Great coffee and yummy sweet bites. Friendly and efficient service, nice vibe. My only regret is that one cant order a single origin cup from the range of their roastery.

Every year we come to this coffee shop when we are in town working the Christchurch Caravan show. The service is always wonderful, we love talking with Bruce each time we see him, and the coffee is delicious! 100% recommend this place in Christchurch xx

Ethical cafe serving Common Good Coffee ($5 donated to Joyya for every 1kg sold). A good selection of food available ranging from pies to scones, filled croissants to slices. A large number of staff working means that the only delay depends on the number of coffees ordered. Book shop also on site and Joyya products also available for purchase.

Visiting Christchurch, just before opening I was welcomed at the door and invited inside out of the cold while they set up. Wait staff friendly, coffee superb, scrambled eggs hands down the best I have ever had. Couldn’t fault a thing. Compliments to the chef. Sunday 31 Aug.

The cafe has such a lovely atmosphere! I ordered a flat white and a cold brew — while they weren’t the best I’ve ever had, both were definitely above average. I’d love to come back again!

Great atmosphere. Great food! Lovely place to have a coffee
Steven H — Google review
Friendly service. Quirky atmosphere. Food was not terribly impressive. - The Pulled Pork Tacos were the standout, very delicious. - The Mushrooms were rather tasteless, the addition of the seaweed as a garnish was odd. But the poached egg was cooked to perfection. - The Berry smoothie was delicious, tart but flavourful. - The Banana smoothie was sweet and delicious. - The Passionfruit and white chocolate slice tasted like neither passionfruit nor white chocolate. Although bland, it was light and fluffy. - The Chocolate cheesecake slice was also bland, tasted more like a budget brownie lacking flavour. - Flat white was on the burnt side, not a tasty drink considering this place is meant to be known for its coffee. Two toilets available, neither of which are wheelchair friendly. Dog friendly outside with water bowls available. Limited parking around the back.

Breakfast restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Christchurch, Drexel's Breakfast Restaurant has been a beloved staple for over three decades, drawing in locals and visitors alike with its enticing all-day breakfast offerings. This charming eatery captures the essence of an old-fashioned American diner, featuring cozy booths and a lively counter where you can watch the culinary magic unfold.
Haven't been here in a very long time. I went in with no booking sometime before 10am and the concierge managed to find me a space. Already I can see the place is buzzing. If you got a larger group, consider booking ahead as they get pretty busy. My latte came first, then my extremely satisfied farmers breakfast. I won't need lunch and it will do me until dinner. Very filling. My server brought me some toast with butter and jam to accompany my breakfast and OMG, it was so good. Will definitely come back.
Julia L — Google review
🍓: You can't go wrong with classic American diner style breakfast foods. And the portion sizes are as you would expect...huge! So definitely get ready to take some food home with you. I highly recommend getting the Drexel's Special, best bang for your buck and you get to try a bit of everything. ✨️: A very busy place, so it definitely gets quite loud at peek times, not a fault of Drexel's, but a lower score from myself due to it getting quite overwhelming. But service is usually still prompt and lovely and very accommodating. Follow Foodie Mama NZ on Insta for more reviews.

Old-school breakfast done tidy: pancakes puff high with real maple, corned-beef hash crisps at the edges, and eggs over easy land perfect. Filter coffee refills keep coming. Portions are American big, but plate balance fine. Service friendly, no fake. Arrive early weekends; the queue snake by 10 and booths vanish.
GYOUZA D — Google review
We came in at 7:30, waited to be seated. All nice until our first serving arrived but we waited for a whole 15 mins with no other dishes? We even saw the chef cleaning the kitchen without making our order. Took us 3 TIMES asking about our order to actually get our food. And one portion of waffle was missing too! TOOK US ANOTHER TIME ASKING FOR OUR FOOD? The restaurant wasn’t even remotely crowded at that time? And we didn’t even receive any sorry! Very questionable and disappointing service!
Emma D — Google review
If you get Karen as your waitress, count your lucky stars, she was amazing! My team were up here for breakfast last week and everything was lovely. The food portions were very large if you want a challenge. It was a really relaxed vibe and quick service. Karen you are incredible.

Unfortunately me and my family did not enjoy it as much as we thought we would. Everything just felt like it was thrown in the plate. The chicken stunk couldn’t eat it at all. I wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

Nestled in the charming town of Lyttelton, just a short drive from Christchurch, is the renowned Lyttelton Coffee Co. This hidden gem offers a stunning view of the harbor and prides itself on serving top-quality coffee that highlights the distinct flavors of each bean. The venue boasts a diverse menu with plenty of dining options, including many dietary and vegan choices.
Lyttelton Coffee Company is an absolute gem, nestled in the heart of Lyttelton with stunning mountain views that perfectly complement its cozy, lodge-like interior. The space feels warm and welcoming, with a rustic cabin vibe that’s ideal for relaxing and soaking in the unique charm of this historic port town. Their avocado toast is nothing short of amazing—hands down one of the most delicious I’ve had. I asked to switch the poached eggs for scrambled, and they happily accommodated, which shows their commitment to excellent customer service. The coffee here is truly exceptional—one of the best I’ve had in New Zealand, where coffee can often be hit or miss. What truly impressed me, though, was their commitment to sustainability. Lyttelton Coffee Company seems to promote local everything, and they don’t offer takeaway coffee- I am guessing that they are aligning with their efforts to reduce waste. They had a sign promoting awareness about cruise pollution, which really highlights their environmentally conscious approach. Interestingly, they also don’t serve decaf coffee. While I didn’t ask why, it made me wonder—could it be because certain decaffeination processes aren’t environmentally friendly? The atmosphere here is relaxed yet vibrant, making it a wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy a meal or a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. I left feeling refreshed and inspired by their dedication to sustainability and quality. If you’re in Lyttelton, this is a must-visit destination for great food, excellent coffee, and an unforgettable experience.

Coffee shop with a nice view of the water. I loved the rustic atmosphere and the old machine inside the cafe. You can have a brunch, or just a snack here. Service was quick despite the busy staff. We came on a Monday morning before noon anf there were many people. Still, we were able to get some seats on the patio area. Coffee was good as well as their smoothies and toast with eggs.

Such a unique place, enjoyed sitting in front of the fire on a cold day. Friendly staff and the food was amazing with good coffee. We found the prices to be fair. Even tho we sat inside, the outside view looking over the Port would be lovely on a nice day. Next time over from OZ will pop in again.

Fools of Desire is a trendy and welcoming café in Rangiora that offers a diverse menu catering to various dietary needs. The friendly staff provide excellent service, ensuring that every customer's needs are met. The café's unique dishes, such as the French Toast with caramelized banana, stand out and are highly recommended. In addition to delicious food, they also offer refreshing house-made lemonade and unique hot chocolate.
Fools of Desire in Rangiora is a real gem. The interior design is eclectic and artistic from the moment you walk in, flowing seamlessly from the café space right through to the toilets. Industrial touches are softened with greenery, colour, and stunning wall art (which is also for sale), making the whole place feel creative and inviting. The food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, and the coffee is excellent. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and add to the relaxed atmosphere. I also admire their inclusive workplace culture, employing people with disabilities and showing real commitment to the community. The only area I’d love to see improved is the menu — simplifying it a little to make ordering easier would make the experience even better. Everything else is artistic, thoughtful, and a joy to experience. Located in Conway Lane off High Street, it’s the perfect spot in Rangiora for great food, coffee, and a unique, artistic vibe. Highly recommend!

Our experience at this cafe was profoundly disappointing from the moment we entered. The bartender, who appeared exhausted, greeted us or did not with an odd look. The venue was disorganized and untidy, which should have been our cue to leave. We decided to try this place as it had received favorable reviews and came recommended by the salon where I get my hair cut. Despite the positive feedback, the reality was different. The tables were cluttered with dishes and glasses from previous guests, and the staff seemed overwhelmed and fatigued, possibly due to being short-staffed. Our order included two cheesecakes; the first was the wrong variety and was excessively dry, while the second was under-set and overly soft. The banoffee toast was poorly prepared, and my traditional breakfast was equally disappointing. They even had a chef who could not cook eggs. We considered ordering drinks but were put off by seeing staff carelessly place clean cups near used ones, so we decided against it. When a staff member inquired if we were satisfied with our meal, I expressed our dissatisfaction. They attempted to address the issue by offering vouchers, which I declined. We left the restaurant feeling regretful about the subpar experience.

I visited yesterday with a friend and really enjoyed my French toast. Unfortunately, today’s experience was quite disappointing. I spent $35, and my hash brown was completely burnt. I understand mistakes can happen, but food in that condition shouldn’t be served — it was inedible.
Izzy A — Google review
Great food and service. Nice ambience and arty feel. 4/5 because the portion is too small for the price. Had the lamb salad - very nicely done and tasted great, just not enough to fill your belly. Pulled lamb was about 1.5 tbsl.. You almost feel guilty for spending so much and not feeling full. To make it worse, I went a public holiday so there was a 15 percent surcharge (not their fault though). $25 for lamb salad (at normal price) is a bit too much for the portion served. I had quick look around and the portion generally seems to be less 😂. I also had chicken burger and fries. Great unique taste - very nice. Fries was ok, but nice touch with rock salt (I think ). Apart from the portion size, everything is perfect. Must try in Rangiora.

Heard great things about this place online and thought it would be a nice cafe to get some work done at. Unfortunately the wifi was not great and it was a bit loud to work in but this is just because I underestimated how popular they were! I ordered an iced chocolate and a cinnamon scroll. The iced chocolate was pretty disappointing, seemed to be just a small cup of chocolate milk with ice in it, but the cinnamon scroll was delicious. Both were reasonably priced, for what I got. The cafe itself was gorgeous and the staff were friendly but still on the hunt for the perfect cafe to work in.

I do not give a business a poor rating, but I will comment if I think it is warranted. Yesterday we went for breakfast just as it opened. The place was dirty. There was still food crumbs and long hair strands on the table, which we cleaned off. There was still food crumbs all over the floor and the windows were filthy. A vibrant cafe, if at times a little noisy. It is certainly very buy, I would recommend booking a table if visiting around lunchtime on a Sunday. I think we were very lucky to get a table. The coffee was delicious as was all the food we ate. I really enjoyed the crispy texture of the batter around the cauliflower. It contrasted nicely with the soft, well cooked cauliflower. Bathrooms, clean, tidy and plentiful!

Well, this review is overdue. I've been a regular visitor to Strange Bandit for about 3 years now. This place has set the bar for coffee and cafe food. The staff here are incredibly helpful with anything (including my shenanigans and coffee related questions). Always welcoming me in with smiles and banter. Recently, I've been hooked on the pulled beef burgers. They're so damn good. Strange Bandit is an amazing place, I couldn't recommend it higher.

Strange bandit has been a regular of mine for a while. Early on they remembered my name and order very quickly which was very nice. I even pulled up today (takes me some time to get out of the car with my 7m old) and my coffee was pre made and ready for me! The service is always 10/10 and the cafe has a beautiful vibe that I’ll never get sick of. Just a couple pics of the best coffee in town.

Incredible Tacos & Beautifully Balanced Flavours! We tried the Strange Bandit Tacos and were absolutely blown away. The beef was tender and full of rich, deep flavour without feeling heavy, and the slaw + greens created the perfect textural balance. Everything felt light yet satisfying — the kind of dish you could happily eat again and again. The only thing we’d change? Next time we’ll definitely order six instead of three! That’s how good they were. 👌 Beautiful plating, great service, and a chill, welcoming atmosphere. If you love layered flavour without being overwhelmed, this spot is a must. Will be back soon!

Loved our visit to C4 Coffee Co! The customer service was absolutely amazing—felt so welcomed from the get-go. Had a good laugh and chat with the chef and staff, which made the whole experience even better. The coffee was on point—smooth, rich, and perfectly made. Food was tasty with fair portions, and the quality definitely shows. Bonus points for the sunny spot we scored—loved sitting there with the sun beaming in. Great vibes all around.

Our favourite coffee for the trip! 💯 The friendly staff helped made the experience great, we ended up leaving with 4 bags of beans/grounded coffee, and 3 cups of coffee! We even got a recommendation from them of our own country’s coffee spot, one that we will be sure to try out in the next few weekends 👍🏻 ☕ their house blend flat white was great, wasn’t bitter and had a good after taste - which triggered a wow and therefore some coffee bags for our friends as souvenirs. The mocha however, was alright, a little too chocolatey and probably meant for chocolate drinkers with minimal coffee notes. 🍰 the loaf of banana cake on display also looked very tempting, which prompted us to get one since there’s no brunch food other than bagels - and it turned out really great, especially those bits on the corners with the great texture! Overall it’s a spot with a really good vibe despite it’s slightly off centre location, we sat there for more than an hour though we could have stayed longer if not for a flight to catch - definitely highly recommended!

The best coffee spot for my trip in New Zealand. Pour over coffee is amazing. There are many options of coffee beans to choose. Don’t forget to buy one or more 🤪
Vitchanan P — Google review
Best coffee bar in Christchurch by far. The variety and flavor range of coffee is impressive. The staff was very helpful in answering our questions about the flavor profiles of their coffees and also recommended coffees to try. The bagged coffee selection was more varied and vast compared to other local shops. I would highly recommend a stop at C4 if in Christchurch.

A lovely café with lots of indoor plants and a great atmosphere. They sell a variety of coffee equipment, from espresso machines to pour-over gear. The cabinet had only sweet items like cakes and loaves, but bagels and other options were available on the menu.

Bohemian Bakery in Christchurch is a must-visit spot, highly recommended by locals and visitors alike. The bakery offers an array of delectable pastries such as blueberry danish, almond croissants, cinnamon buns, and pain au chocolat. Their selection also includes savory options like beef and fennel sausage rolls and delicious sandwiches. With a variety of vegan pastries available, it's a great place for everyone to enjoy.
The vegan pastries are incredible. Can't believe I can get a vegan almond croissant. So delicious. Staff are aways so friendly too.

The bakery used to be a friendly happy place with helpful counter staff. However on the last 2 visits I was ignored, dealt with in an obligatory manner and on the occasion when only a single staff member working, my coffees were terrible. Very strange business attitude if looking for repeat clientele.

Bought a pie and an almond croissant to go - just yum! I need to try their coffee and other cakes next time! 😋

Christchurch’s best kept secret. Must be one of the best bakeries in New Zealand. Delicious sandwiches, croissant and a high quality bread, which you would find otherwise only in Europe

Great place for a coffee and treat. I went there twice but the first day there was a lot of people in the line so returned later when I didn’t have to wait, but had limited products as most had sold out. Get in early to get the pick of the bunch and you won’t regret it.

Grizzly Baked Goods is a bakery with modern-style offerings that you can find at the Christchurch Farmers Market and at a number of cafes around town. Expect an array of delicious pastries, including stuffed donuts and croissants. The bakery is set to open its doors to the public in 2019, and will also have a bakehouse at The Welder.
Seriously, their hot cross bun is the best in town. So soft and fluffy with that hint of citrus—every bite was just wow. Can’t believe Easter’s almost over… I’m gonna miss it. Tried some of their other pastries too, and they were solid. The sando was so good it totally made me wanna go back for the focaccia. It gets pretty busy in there, but the staff still manage to stay super friendly. Respect and admire that! Thanks guys🍞🥐

Akin Cafe, located in the heart of High Street, offers a minimalist ambiance and a seasonal menu with Southeast Asian influences. The cafe is known for its unique dishes like pandan-infused pancakes and aromatic congee. Customers appreciate the dog-friendly policy and stylish decor. The beef cheek eggs benedict is highly recommended, and the cafe also offers good gluten-free options. Despite being a bit loud due to its architecture, it provides a nice airy atmosphere for coffee meetings or casual dining.
STUNNING. This bustling cafe is clearly a local favourite, especially for takeaway orders—such a hotspot for nearby businesses. Our breakfast was absolutely delicious. The spicy lentils dish was packed with brilliant flavours, and the bread was thick, soft, and oh-so-good. I’ve also been here twice for coffee, and it never disappoints—smooth, perfectly balanced, and never bitter. Akin Cafe consistently delivers both incredible food and excellent coffee. Highly recommend stopping by.

One of the cosiest cafes in the city! Walked in early this morning to a very warm atmosphere, relaxing music, and a friendly welcome by the lovely lady working. Really nice matcha latte. Strong matcha flavour, not too sweet, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Lots of yummy looking cabinet food. I got a chilli cheese scone, and it was beautiful toasted with butter. More tasty breakfast options on the menu too, I'll definitely be back to try the eggs bene!
Amelia B — Google review
Very nice coffee. The eggs on toast were great- loved the bread. The white stuff on the side of the plate I found was a tad odd. Would definitely visit again.

Absolutely perfect food and coffee. Hip modern decor and friendly staff. Loved our flat whites and the breakfast with pork belly. Tip for American visitors to New Zealand, if you like over easy eggs you must ask for runny yolk or it will be hard by default (all restaurants, not just Akin). Quite a treat, recommended!

As soon as I entered the cafe, I was surrounded by a wonderful aroma. It felt so nice to be immersed in such a pleasant scent while waiting for my beautiful coffee. The design of the cafe was also outstanding — cozy yet modern. Even the bathroom was well-maintained, designed and clean. This visit made me realize how much effort it takes to keep a cafe such a welcoming and enjoyable place👍

Tom's is a new addition to the Southwark St block in Christchurch, but its owner is no stranger to the city's food scene. Tom, who was part of the team that established Frances Nation Grocer, has brought his expertise to this charming cafe. Known for its delectable egg sandwich and pink buns, Tom's also offers an outstanding haloumi sandwich that has left patrons raving about its generous portions and explosive flavors.
All the toasties were already sold out since I got there an hour before closing. I had their signature pink bun — I thought it was a cinnamon bun, but it was actually filled with strawberry jelly and topped with sugar icing. The coffee was really good, and the atmosphere was nice and chill.

Food: 9/10 - Great toastie, sauerkraut, burger sauce, very nice coffee too. Service: 9/10 - Quick and super friendly, was nice super early in the morning. Atmosphere: 8/10 - Very tiny shop but nice tunes, good seats inside and out, makes good use of the space. Value: 7/10 - Worth it for the sandwich though. Overall: 8/10 - Sweet morning pit stop, definitely get a toastie.

A great little spot for a coffee and bite to eat. We were super lucky to snag the last two sandwiches of the day, so if you're thinking of heading here, go sooner rather than later in the day. The sandwich was packed to the brim with flavour and filling, a very good sandwich indeed. Lovely spot with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Bully Hayes Restaurant & Bar is a laid-back waterfront eatery in Akaroa, New Zealand, offering a diverse menu featuring pasta, seafood, venison, and breakfast options. The restaurant prides itself on its connection to the local area and Banks Peninsula by using organic, locally sourced ingredients. With outdoor seating and a full bar, it's an ideal spot to enjoy eclectic cuisine while taking in scenic views.
Enjoyed a delicious breakfast with lovely view! We had egg benedict with salmon and coffee. The food was tasty. Convenient location, plenty parking and washroom facilities.
Isfaqur S — Google review
It was a terrible experience. The hygiene was terrible, the food was full of foreign objects, and the Indian owner was even worse. I found a fish bone in the lamb shank, hidden in the meat, and it nearly pierced my throat. I showed it to the waiter, but he argued it was a lamb bone. "Can't you even tell the difference between a fish bone and a lamb bone?" When I confronted him a second time, he saw us taking photos and simply removed the bone. Finally, the owner came out, and it was the most ridiculous moment. He said he'd give us a discount on the unhealthy lamb shank we hadn't eaten. I double-checked that I had heard correctly. A discount on a dish that posed a health risk to customers? And that's before they even ate it. Are you kidding me? I asked to remove the offending dish, but the owner refused, claiming it had already been thrown away. We were then forced to pay for the entire meal without eating anything else. This was my worst experience in New Zealand. If you ever encounter an Indian restaurant, remember to leave, or you'll end up with leftovers and fish bones from the previous table in your meal.

We have just spent a weekend in Akaroa and went to this restaurant for lunch. We absolutely loved the food, and came back for another 3 meals over a few days. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The food was at our table in the most amazingly short time span, fresh, hot, well cooked and tasty. The service was amazing, the staff were lovely and friendly. We ate indoors and outdoors, day time and evening. Coldplay playing was a lovely touch, so easy to listen to. We would have easily spent $600, over several meals, which we don’t do often and was money well spent, we will recommend it and be back next time we are in Akaroa. Thank you very much A+ :)
Fleur B — Google review
This restaurant is located in the beach road facing the Akaroa habour. There's seating outside and inside. We chose to sit outside as the weather was fine. We dinned there twice, lunch and dinner, during our stay in Akaroa. For lunch we had the seafood chowder and mussels bowl (500g). The flavors were amazing but the mussels weren't clean properly. Almost half of the mussels had beard on them. For dinner we chose dishes from the light meals section, seafood paella and akaroa king salmon. The potion was medium and it was good size for us. If you are hungry, I'd recommend having something else. The mussels in the seafood paella had beard in it. Since it's the second time it happened, I wasn't impressed, so we didn't return to dine there again. I gave feedback to the serving staff about the beard the first time and shown him all the mussels beard I found. Staff was apologetic and professional. I would have liked if the feedback was taken on board by the chef and not repeated for the second time! We found out from the Akaroa museum yesterday that Bully Hayes was a criminal resided in Akaroa. So, we were a bit surprised and amused by the choice of name for the restaurant!.it's a bit like naming a restaurant after Jeffrey Epstine 🤣🤣🤣 it's worth noting that both were Americans! 😂😂😂 Overall it was a pleasant dinning experience. However, I wouldn't order mussels again!

One of the best meals we have had - the most delicous merino lamb! Also the tapas were very yummy and great portion sizes. Nestled in the heart of Christchurch, C1 Espresso stands out as a unique and iconic establishment. This vibrant cafe has gained fame for its unconventional dining experience, which includes delivering orders through pneumatic tubes. Recognized for its innovative approach to food, C1 Espresso offers an array of creative dishes such as the "Savoury Crumpets" featuring avocado salsa, halloumi, and seasonal greens atop jalapeno-egg battered crumpets.

C1 Espresso in Christchurch is not your average café — it’s a full-on experience. Known for its creativity and quirkiness, this café stands out with its pneumatic tube delivery system, which shoots sliders and curly fries through clear overhead pipes straight to your table. It’s like being in a Willy Wonka coffee factory, and kids (and adults) absolutely love it. The food is solid, with generous portions and a menu that mixes café classics with fun twists. Their curly fries, served in a retro-style container, are golden and crispy, and pair perfectly with their gourmet burgers or sliders. Coffee is strong, smooth, and roasted in-house — perfect for the Christchurch caffeine connoisseur. The vibe is relaxed yet buzzing, with a mix of locals and tourists soaking in the industrial-meets-steampunk décor. The staff are usually friendly and upbeat, even when it’s busy. There’s plenty of space, and the high ceilings make it feel open and airy. All in all, C1 is one of those must-visit spots in Christchurch — not just for the coffee, but for the experience. Whether you’re there for brunch, coffee, or just to see fries fly through the air, it’s a unique, fun café that delivers on both taste and atmosphere.

It’s a pretty expensive outing but super fun to experience the pneumatic tubes delivering your food. Very alternative menu items also available. Getting water is a novelty & they have still and sparkling options. Super icon venue. Toilets are fun behind the library wall & there are old school games in the venue plus a fun magazine style menu.

Interesting food serving concept where burger and fries and send through tubes to the seats their patrons. The interior design of the eatery was also rather unique, colonial and artistic. The coffee also packed a punch. Would recommend coming here at least once to try it out.

Situated in a historical post office building, re-purposed as a cozy cafe. Love the vibes. Breakfast menu is till 11am sharp! I would recommend the eggs benedict. Limited lunch menu but there's something for everyone. Order and pay at the counter. For a unique dining experience, order a dish that states delivered pneumatic delivery. Your food is encased in a capsule and "shot" from the kitchen through tubes above u and delivered at various delivery points! Unique experience. Food was not of a big portion (else it can't fit into the capsule) but it was tasty. Try to find the water dispenser machine, an old sewing machine redesign to dispense water. And try to find the door for the toilet. Affogato was a decent portion and was delicious. Overall a cafe worth visiting.

Artisan by Rangiora Bakery is a bright and modern 2-level cafe that offers casual eats, pastries, and a kids' play area upstairs. The spacious spot provides plenty of choices at reasonable prices. Customers have enjoyed the "Have it your way" brekkie with coffee or tea, praising the flexibility to customize their meal. The service is quick and the food is well-presented and sumptuous.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Phenomenal – Best Pie I’ve Ever Had! Rangiora Bakery’s Sumatran Pie is hands down the best pie I’ve ever eaten—and I’ve had my fair share of pies! The flaky, golden pastry is absolute perfection, and the filling is something truly special. The slow-cooked beef infused with Sumatran spices creates an explosion of rich, aromatic flavors, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of warmth and depth. Every bite is pure magic. Not only is their pie award-winning (and rightfully so!), but their customer service is outstanding. They went above and beyond to courier pies all the way to Palmerston North, and they arrived in perfect condition, safely guarded by a little gingerbread man! That personal touch says everything about the care they put into their food and their customers. I would move to Rangiora just to be closer to this bakery. If you love pies that set a new standard, do yourself a favor and get here. 1000% recommended!
John L — Google review
The slow-cooked beef pie was good but not among the best, not even in the top five of what we’ve had. The pie filling was great, but the pastry was quite soft and soggy. The chocolate finger was just okay, and the bread part was stale. The custard slice lacked custardy flavour and texture, quite gluey/rubbery, not creamy and smooth. The shortbread was dry. The Afghan biscuit was nice.

We went to this bakery to buy their award winning Sumatra style beef pie and the mince and gravy pie. Both of them taste great. The orange cake and the chocolate Danish is also very good. We will definitely come back.

Disappointed in the mince savouries. They used to be *SO* good back in the day, rich gravy and mince, but today is was like a weird bolagnase sauce. No coincidence that lasagna was pasta of the day I expect. Very expensive pastry shells in the end :( As a disabled person who cannot cross the busy main road parking remains an issue. EDIT: Dropped a star because of the snarky reply. Recipe changed well before 2024 but keeps getting worse. People are allowed to say your product is not as enjoyable anymore a caution to other patrons who dislike the 'new' flavors.. That's what public review is for. Also you have 2 disability carparks so an important concerns for patrons, like me, to decide if it is worth coming when already disappointed with the new direction. Actually listen to what the low reviews are drawing your attention to rather than being defensive and rude.

Primo E Secundo has super welcoming staff and a cozy, if slightly quirky, atmosphere. The food was delicious, fairly priced, and definitely worth coming back for. The milkshake, though, was a letdown -bland, overpriced at $9, and in need of more fruit (and maybe a drizzle of honey) to make it shine. Overall, a solid 3-star spot with great food and warm service.

Little Vintage Espresso Café is a charming spot located inside the original post office building, adding to its historic and quirky appeal. The cozy atmosphere and delightful staff make for a pleasant dining experience. The café offers a good selection of cabinet food and a range of hot sauces, along with vintage teaspoons that add to its unique charm. While some visitors found the coffee to be just okay, others enjoyed it, so it may come down to personal preference.
Great little coffee shop, very popular with locals. Worked well as a stop for us. Very good coffee, range of savouries looked tasty. We had wonderful mandarin and dark chocolate muffins, warmed slightly and delicious!

Amazing food, big portions, welcoming staff, great coffee. Asked to swap bacon for salmon in the Big Breakfast option - no questions asked, gladly did that and didn't even ask for an extra charge. Highly recommended!!

I was delighted that my tea came in such a nice teapot and matching cup. And they used tea leaves (not a tea bag) so my green tea was steeped with plenty of room to release its flavours.

We had the Vic breakfast. Delicious, lovely grainy bread, yummy cheese kranskys instead of standard sausages, chunky house made beans, mushrooms with a sprinkle of dukkah, perfectly poached eggs. Highly recommended.

Went past Amberley and stopped at this little cafe. The seating a bit crowded and there was a queue. Service was friendly. The coffee was not hot enough for my liking, it was just warm, but it tasted good. The muffin was surprisingly yummy with a nice crust, fluffy inside and you can see the mandarin and chocolate as you get into it. Overall I think it’s a nice place to stop by, but not if you want to enjoy a longer meal time.

The soy latte in our keepcup was exceptional. We had hoped to try the famous cheesecake, but unfortunately, it was already sold out by 1 pm. We'll have to give it a try next time we visit.

Delightful stop for brunch when driving from ChCh to Kaikoura. The chicken jalopeno sandwich was amazing!!! My husband had the breakfast burrito and enjoyed that as well. The staff were super friendly and fast service. The only downside, if it's busy, it gets VERY noisy inside (hard to hear yourself think). Thankfully, it was a nice day, so we just sat outside :) highly recommend!

Not a bad wee Cafe! It's a cute building with not much seating inside but that adds to the coziness I think. Good selection of cabinet food, the coffee was just ok (pretty week, but you might love the strength!), food was heated up when we asked for it cold but otherwise I nice spot.

Nestled on Blenheim Road, Dose Diner is a lively Australian café that brings a refreshing vibe reminiscent of Melbourne's quirky café culture to Christchurch. Known for its indulgent breakfast offerings, from decadent French toast to fluffy hotcakes, this spot has something for everyone. The menu may be concise, but it packs in all the essentials for a satisfying meal.
Honestly I think I’m boycotting every other cafe in Christchurch after this. Absolute weaponry here. Outstanding French toast with apple cinnamon, strawberry compote, whipped ricotta, maple syrup, grilled bananas, and bacon. For only 26. And lemme tell you I’ve had some French toast in my time and this is the best breakfast one I’ve had. Dunno what it is about it but boy howdy by golly gee whizz it worked. Absolutely hat and wig off to the chefs and the lovely lady at the counter, and also lemme tell you probably the best chai latte I’ve found, and I love a chai. Plenty of foam, cinnamon, fast service for everything, plenty room, lovely decor and feel. 15/10 for brunch. So coming back to try eggs Bennie and the fried chicken burger.

Beautiful place, nice atmosphere with good music and friendly service with a smile, delicious food, we got the Smoked Chicken Cranberry Filo $12.00 and it was amazing and full of delicious chicken, also the Chocolate Milkshake $9.00 was absolutely delicious and the Mochaccino Coffee $6.00 large, was very good too, but could have been hotter. There’s a lovely outside eating area in the sun and an ashtray box for smokers to feel welcome :) Overall out rating for Dose Diner is 10/10

First time here and OMG it's incredible. Had the eggs benedict with hash browns and hot salmon and it was the best I've had in a very long time. A decent amount of salmon compared to other places. The service was great. They took my order with a friendly manor and a service with a smile when delivering my meals. Lovely vibe in the space. Lots of seating and lovely open space.

Great Eggs Benny, and my lovely wife enjoyed her French Toast too.

A solid cafe for good coffee, great food and quick service. The cabinet is full of delicious looking morsels but my group ordered breakfast from the short but has everything you need menu. Meals came out in good time, even though it was getting quite busy and coffees were fired out in good time too. Parking is very limited here as the car park serves surrounding businesses so either get in early or be prepared to park on a nearby street and walk in.

Pretty busy today, might have been short-staffed as well as took a long time to get table cleared and coffees served. Had the hotcake and big breakfast for the first time today and both were good. Chai is always great here, which I appreciate. Kind of a hidden gem this one.

Lovely spot off the main roads. Lots of space. Large tables for groups or small tables if preferred. I was there at 7.30 for breakfast of coffee and porridge and was out before 8am. Porridge was served with Black Doris plums, crumble, raw sugar and cream. Delicious but only warm, not hot.

I ordered the mushrooms. They had absolutely zero flavour. At least they put a lemon in the side to add something. Then I was charged like 5 dollar's to add an egg to my meal and it was undercooked with runny whites. Service was kind and polite though.
Anna — Google review
i hate writing negative reviews but unfortunately i didn’t enjoy the food here. i got a mocha which was quite bitter, and then i got the eggs on toast (scrambled on sourdough) with added bacon. the meal was presented well and the rye/wholemeal sourdough was quite nice, but unfortunately the eggs were really flavourless. there was a bunch of pepper, slightly too much, but basically no salt and absolutely no herbs or any other spices. even just some chives or parsley would’ve really helped add some flavour. i’d usually be okay if i had some sort of sauce to add but with only salt and pepper on the table it really wasn’t very enjoyable and i couldn’t finish it. my aunt also got poached eggs that were overcooked. the cabinet food looked pretty good and staff were friendly, but unfortunately i think i’ll be quite reluctant to come back and try something else as i do feel that a simple eggs on toast should be easy to master.

We found this place on our first morning in Christchurch and proceeded to come back the next three days because we loved it so much! Coffee was great especially the cold brew with vanilla cold foam and particularly loved the bagel with halloumi and pesto. Sad this place is not around the corner from home as I would be here every week!

I was just walking down the street and randomly came across this cafe. It felt like I found a hidden gem🙂 The waffle was super fresh, especially the lemon ricotta cream was so good. The coffee was spot on too. The cabinet desserts looked amazing! I might have to go back and try one next time.

We went here for breakfast on a Monday morning. It wasn't crowded, however there was one patron who was very loud on a Skype call. The Monks breakfast was really big and delicious. It'll probably make you skip lunch. The Monks veg breakfast was also good. When we opted to not have eggs, they instead served grilled paneer which was a nice touch. The long black coffee was good too.

Never fails to disappoint. Lovely staff who treat you kindly. Delicious coffee and no increase in prices. I started going here when we moved to Rangiora in 2018. I'm a regular. Honestly it's the best coffee place because I remember the days of Yellow Rocket 🚀 and the bagels with a mocha latte or a flat white with caramel syrup is still just as yummy.

Omlette was a bit off but again that was my choice to ask for it to be made well done (crispy as per the server) but it was very filling, I just felt it should have been served with a toast on the side. French toast was amazing. Great atmosphere. Seems to be a crowd favorite in Rangiora. Service - While all servers who attended to various people were good to everyone. The person who took our order didn't seem to be having the best of her days. Will definitely revisit.

100% recommend if you like good coffee 😉We were in NZ for almost three weeks and this was by far the best cup of coffee we had in the whole South Island!!! The ladies were very nice. Gluten free selection was good (they use separate tongs to grab gf goodies) and I had no reaction (celiac).
Robyn J — Google review
Nice coffee and a reasonable selection of cabinet food. Yellow Rocket Bagels are very nice, as is the their Eggs Benedict. Service is great, and they usually do a fantastic job of getting the meals out quickly. All wheelchair accessible.
David S — Google review
I felt disappointed with the omlette that I ordered ham cheese and onion. The ham and cheese had been melted in the pan with what I feel was scrambled egg with onion put in the middle. It’s was tough and not edible . An omelette is not usually made this way . There was a complimentary salad that was all lettuce with about a teaspoon of feta. Would have been better to have left it off. It was very busy , the service was good the other guests with me were happy with the big breakfast and sausage roll and filo. I should have told them but it was too busy. Unless the cheff learns how to make an omelette I feel this will not be a popular item. I’ve eaten here in the past but it’s been a few months so not sure if a new way to make an omelette but I would not order it again incase . Coffee was good and I will try again but a different choice of food .

Good Habit is a quaint cafe located in a convent garden in Christchurch. They serve delicious brunches and hot beverages, and have an extensive cabinet selection. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxing and charming. Offstreet parking is available.
Tried a really special dish at this café today: pan-fried salmon on hash, served with grilled tomato, spinach, and hollandaise sauce. It was absolutely top notch and felt like something off a Michelin menu. The owner told me the salmon was from Akaroa, which happens to be my favourite. No wonder it tasted so good. He was super friendly, chatty, and generous. Just before closing, he offered free coffee and treats to the customers who were still there. Definitely worth a visit!

We had a reservation for 10 people and really enjoyed the experience overall. The atmosphere was great, the staff were all friendly and welcoming, and the food was tasty and well presented. There was a bit of a wait, but it was understandably busy at the time. The only disappointment was the eggs Benedict – unfortunately all eight eggs at our table were overcooked and not runny. The flavour was excellent though, and the salmon portion was generous. We’ll definitely be back, but next time I’ll be sure to request runny eggs!

Really good food and coffee here. The coffee come from really high grade of beans and the Barista definitely knows how to roast their beans to give a really smooth and balance flavor. The food truly surprised me that I never expect to have such high standard food in a cafe. The flavor of food is unique thanks to such creative Chef with his special sauce and really fresh material they used. Really good place so

What a fantastic find in central Christchurch! Good Habit is an excellent café with a great atmosphere. I tried their signature Salmon on hash and the Kimchi Bacon Omelette, which were absolutely delicious. The hash was perfectly crispy, and the omelette was a fantastic fusion of flavours. Absolutely disappointing . The person behind the counter didn’t speak English so I couldn’t understand her and she couldn’t understand me . Our coffees came out minis one that clearly got missed and unfortunately the other coffee was burnt , bitter and made me feel ill . Could not drink it . Big wait on the food even through there weren’t many in the cafe . The bacon was stone cold like it had just come out of the fridge . The eggs had no taste other than vinegar. The smashed avo was also fridge cold and was on soggy bread that needed to be toasted for longer. This place has really gone downhill since the new owner’s took over. After being regulars most Sunday’s for over a year we will not be coming back .

Cafe is overheated and uncomfortable. When we arrived there were many empty tables that hadn’t been cleared of dishes or wiped, and wait staff delivering food but not taking dishes back to the kitchen. Wait staff were checking in with diners to make sure food was ok, but not coming with cleaning spray or cloths to clean tables. The pancakes did not appear to be made with fresh batter, rather seemed like a packet mix which is very disappointing.

A nice cafe along the harbour precinct. Food is OK but a bit pricey for quality and serving size. Atomphere and service is good. Pancakes and eggs bene were ordered and unusually came with sliced raw spring onions, which was odd. Long black coffee was ok. However, the soy flatwhite was not good, and possibly the soy milk needs to be a better quality.

I came here on a date brunch with my husband this morning. It had been recommended by someone at work, so I thought I would try it. Well, they certainly didn’t disappoint!!! The minute you walked in, it was warm and inviting. We got some menus then ordered. I had eggs benny with bacon and extra hash browns. My husband had a beef burger with fries. He asked for the salad greens to be taken out and added extra fries! No problem said the man behind the counter. The service was so friendly and Stu (the man who served me) was warm and friendly and it was like I was at home with my dad! It was so nice. The flat white I had was hot and delicious - perfectly balanced. Our brunch came out and it looked as amazing as it tasted. The ciabatta was toasted to perfection, the yolks were runny, the hollandaise was so tasty and the bacon was just how I liked it!! The hash browns were hot and crisp. My husband’s burger was as he requested - and a load of extra fries 🍟. He reported that it was filled with onions and a good, hot, juicy meat pattie. He was very happy with the fries too. Crispy and crunchy and hot. What a really lovely wee place to come to. Really enjoyed it and the banter with Stu. Nice, down to earth, warm and with a great atmosphere. Thankyou for your delicious brunch and warm welcome this morning. We will definitely come back and recommend to everyone!!

The fruit and custard tart I had is the best one I've eaten, the variety of fruits on it was impressive and the pastry and chocolate base was delicious. For savouries I had the spinach and feta quiche which was also yummy. Cosy atmosphere and I highly recommend this place!

Always love coming here, staff are super friendly, cafe is cute and coffee is delicious. Was served today by a staff member with black hair and a beanie who was incredibly friendly and energetic. Service is always good, but you’ve found yourself a star! Highlights - well crafted coffee - great atmosphere - attentive and friendly staff - well laid out cafe - llamas! Lowlights - parking

Have visited this coffee shop many times over the years as we pass through from Christchurch to Picton. The coffee has remained pretty consistent in flavour & strength. Not sure if management has changed over time, but staff have come & gone. Present staff were very friendly on our recent visit

Gorgeous wee café. Delicious coffee and even more delicious breads and pastries. The almond croissant is beyond delicious I missed it once I finished it 😂 also has some lovely organic flours and breadmaking supplies
Michaela S — Google review
Just want to preface this review by saying bakery is really good and worth a visit! Any comments/critiques are simply to distinguish it between very good or elite status. I had a long black, almond croissant, beef pie and pretzel. Cost me $24 which is pretty reasonable I think. The Almond croissant deserves the hype it gets in the other reviews. Very good stuff, and right up there with the best I've had. I particularly liked it was nice to handle and not really messy like some others. The pie was also good. More of a rustic, home style pie I would say, rather than a traditional kiwi pie. Good flavour, but the pastry was not as flakey and crisp as I would like. It was also just warm rather than hot. I would have preferred hotter. The tomato sauce was a standout though! Homemade style with a nice acidity. I'm usually a watties purist but this was a nice change. The pretzel was also fine but not the favourite I've ever had. I didn't enjoy the sesame seeds really and the dough was not quite the right texture for me if I was being pedantic. The coffee was a good quality New Zealand coffee but nothing amazing/elite. Also was happy to see the sauce and butter came in separate ramekins rather than single serve plastic. Staff were super helpful and the atmosphere is great. Plenty of variety for seating. There is outside seating if it's a nice day. They have a change table, although it's in the only toilet from what I could see. Would give 4.5 stars if I could.
Tom S — Google review
Great wee spot, close to the Ara University campus. Very cozy, with an upstairs area and couches for comfort. I had a long black and a salami pretzel roll. The long black was a tad bitter for my taste but went very well with the pretzel roll that had mustard and sweet pickle to balance it out. The service was nice enough, though they were busy so hard to judge. The atmosphere was nice, great for a meeting business or casual. Maybe not for too large of a group. Overall, it's a nice spot with delicious food if a little pricey(but what isn't these days) and a good place for lunch for a group around 2-5 peeps.
That_one_guy_Javid — Google review
Had an almond croissant and a long black. The coffee was okay. However, it was a bit bitter so I expect the espresso is overextracted. Price was good as seen In one of my photos The croissant was one of the best pastries I have ever had. It was well sized and every bite was delicious. I have also had their breads before and will say that everything they bake is very high quality and very reasonable in price considering what you get. Overall i would heavily recommend this place.
Stan L — Google review
**Bohemian Café: A Hidden Gem!** I recently visited Bohemian Café, and I must say, it's an absolute gem! The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and relaxed vibe make it the perfect spot to unwind. But what truly stood out was their almond croissant — hands down the best I’ve ever had! The perfect balance of flakiness, buttery goodness, and just the right amount of almond filling. Whether you're there for a coffee break or a casual catch-up with friends, you can’t miss the almond croissant. Highly recommend this place!
Rahil M — Google review
A gorgeous atmosphere with a lot of vegan options. Coffee is good too. We got a vegan pain au chocolate and a dairy pain au chocolate. Both had a enough chocolate. They were busy and friendly.
Etomia W — Google review
Seats were fine but not the most comfortable. I had a smoothie and found it had frozen chunks in it and it didn’t taste very good. My partner got the berry smoothie that wasn’t even a smoothie, it was just juice. We were sitting in different places because there was only one wall plug in the whole cafe at an uncomfortable high table. I wasn’t told that they were closing, instead they turned off the wifi at 3pm on the dot. I was almost finished with some documents but lost it all because they cut the wifi and it hadn’t saved yet. Getting people out by cutting the wifi instead of telling them that you’re closing is just rude. My partner (who was sitting in a different part of the cafe) was told that they were closing in 3 minutes. It’s common courtesy to give a 5 minute closing warning at bare minimum, but wasn’t even granted that. They were obviously desperate to close or get us to leave which created an uncomfortable and uninviting atmosphere. The upstairs seating was also closed along with the bathroom. I had high hopes for this cafe but was very disappointed

Coffee store
Nestled within one of Christchurch's iconic Brutalist structures, Lux Espresso is a beloved café that thrives on word-of-mouth rather than self-promotion. With no website to its name, it relies on an engaging Instagram presence to draw in coffee enthusiasts. Located on the ground floor of the Centre of Contemporary Art, this stylish spot offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for unwinding or getting some work done without feeling rushed.
Ready for my second coffee of the day and it's another Flat White. Lux Espresso is sort of the coffee shop for the Canterbury Museum and the Center for Contemporary Art, but at 8:00 those hadn't opened. It was pretty quiet and they were busy setting up for a strong day. Coffee was excellent and yes, I borrowed the free WIFI from the museum. Reasonably comfortable space with some high tops, some low tops. It gets a bit noisy but there's no reason you can't hang out here for a bit.

Cafe
Belle Cafe & Micro Roastery is a popular spot known for its generous breakfast options, particularly the eggs benedict with various toppings like smoked salmon and roasted mushrooms. The cafe offers exceptional service and a perfect flat white to start your day. While some visitors have noted minor hygiene concerns, others appreciate the cafe's good coffee and in-house roasted beans. The cozy atmosphere attracts a steady flow of customers, although the space can get a bit smoky due to the on-site roastery.
Went out looking for breakfast in Christchurch at 7:30 in the morning to discover in this little Street of 100 cafes that belle was the only one open. Had the avocado roastery thingy and basically a hash brown with avocado poached egg lovely. And my partner had the breakfast rolled back which was bacon egg on low with HP sauce again very palatable. Coffee was good for fast nothing to complain about.

Funky little cafe. Tons of art around the walls amd ceiling to keep you looking around in interest. The cheese scones (heated and with some butter) are probably my favorite around town, and the hot chocolates are very flavoursome. Staff are always smiling and friendly.

There’s a special joy in appreciating each of the many artworks displayed on the walls. It’s a unique and cozy space, and on a sunny day, it’s a perfect spot to sit outside with a cup of coffee and watch Christchurch’s famous trams go by. Amazing food and coffee! The Turkish eggs had some flavors I haven't gotten anywhere else in Christchurch which were just right for breakfast. I'll probably try it with the bacon next time too. Genuinely some of the best pork belly and hash browns I've ever had Also really appreciate that they serve coffee from Grey's

I was just planning to grab a quick coffee before heading to the Hot Pool, but as soon as I saw the cabinet food, I couldn’t help myself and ended up ordering way more than I expected. 😄 And I’m so glad I did! The coffee was smooth and rich, and every single item I tried from the food to the desserts was absolutely delicious and satisfying. It felt like an unexpected little gem that I just happened to stumble upon. The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Everything about this cafe is beautiful. The food is so well presented and tastes amazing, the customer service was really good! The lady greeted us at our table and took our orders by memory. The best iced mocha i have had in a while and the views of the beach from the tables are even better. The only problem is the bathrooms are also shared with the hot pools so they are in constant use, better to go over to the library. I also noticed they sell plants so make sure you bring some cash if you want any.

Becca — Google review
I was really looking forward to a warm, comforting bowl of porridge, but this was such a letdown. It had absolutely no flavour or sweetness, just a bland, gluey texture that reminded me of school cafeteria food — and not in a nostalgic way. I kept hoping the taste would improve with each bite, but it never did. Honestly, I could’ve made better at home. Very disappointing. I had the Mixed Berry bowl and there was absolutely 0 flavour, never going back!!!

If you find yourself in New Zealand, a visit to Fairlie Bakehouse is an absolute must for pie enthusiasts. This charming establishment is celebrated for its exceptional handmade pies, crafted daily with light and fluffy pastry that envelops generous fillings made from fresh, high-quality ingredients—many sourced locally. The innovative flavor combinations are truly gourmet; imagine savoring a pie filled with bacon and salmon or indulging in the rich taste of pork belly paired with apple sauce and crackling.
Fairlie Bakehouse is truly hailed as the 'King of Pies' on the South Island route, boasting a consistently great reputation and enduring popularity. After trying it, it really lives up to the hype! The filling has perfectly balanced seasoning, and the crust is wonderfully crispy. I'm not usually a big fan of savory pies, but this one I could easily eat an entire portion by myself!

Absolutely delicious, had the bacon and salmon pie and the mince and cheese. Very helpful and friendly staff as well. Favourite pies in the South Island (and we’ve tried a few!) the pastry is perfect, golden and flaky and buttery. The fillings were amazing and generous, highly recommend! We will be back to try more! 🥧

Wow — the salmon pie ( abundant salmon filling- ah.. yummmm) and pork belly pie( cracking the best) were absolutely amazing! Both were packed with flavour, flaky pastry, and cooked to perfection. The coffee was also fantastic — smooth and rich, one of the best we’ve had on our trip. It’s definitely a busy spot with lots of tourists, so expect a bit of a line (even for the toilets), but it’s totally worth the stop. A must-visit when passing through Fairlie!

Very kind amd friendly staff. Had the mince and cheese pie and a chocolate cake. Both were delicious and bigger portions than they seemed, had to take the leftovers home. We were able to sit outside and enjoy our food in the sun and our drinks were brought to us. Really nice little shop and welcoming atmosphere.

Deserved reputation for fabulous pies — we had the salmon / bacon, chicken / mushroom, and steak / cheese. All had big chunks of delicious ingredients, very tasty. Cronut for dessert had lovely texture and not overly sweet. There will be a line but moves quickly — know what you want in advance! Highly recommend to stop here if you’re anywhere nearby!

Sept 2025 Food is good. Crowd control could be better. :) Ordered the pork belly with apple sauce, Venison with cranberry, apple pie and cream doughnut.

I had the Ultimate Steak, Pork Belly, and Apple Pie with a Custard Square — and every single item was amazing! The flavours were rich and perfectly balanced, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. The display cabinet was full of delicious-looking pies that all looked worth trying. There’s plenty of seating both inside and outside, making it a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy your meal. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was friendly and efficient. Definitely a place worth checking out when passing through — I’ll be coming back for sure next time I’m in the area!

The staff member who served us was so rude and blunt, she rolled her eyes at us when we changed one of the pie orders, she hadn't even got the 1st order out of the warmer. Said there wasn't a pie we asked for but there actually was. Asked for mince and cheese got just mince, even though i said it clerly and loudly, turns out the pie was actually missing the cheese, so they swapped it for us which was kind. Felt so rushed and pressured even though we stood back to make our choices and werent blocking a line. it was early am and barely 8 people in the store but the staff (at least 6) acted like it was rush hour. This place is over commercialised and a tourist trap. Very different from how it was a few years ago. Pies are nice good mince and nice large steak pieces, but nothing special not alot of cheese even in the replacement pie, especially for $9.80. We havent really wanted to stop cause the last time was a very similar experience sadly. It's gone the way of places like fergburger. Small country bakery just out for a quick buck, lost is charm.

The Wrinkly Rams is a unique spot that combines an eatery, art gallery, and wine bar with a live sheep shearing show. Visitors can enjoy classic local fare while watching a fascinating demonstration of New Zealand's high country sheep shearing, complete with a live sheep being shorn on stage. The show also includes a demonstration of an eye dog herding sheep.
This place is so, so good. We came here after a soak at Omarama Hot Tubs next door for a quick bite and loved it. The coffees are great, pie is scrumptious and the carrot cake so good I needed a second serving. Beautiful homey vibe with lovely staff.

Our breakfast/brunch spot after coming down from Mt Cook, which turned out to be a very good meal! 🏔️ firstly, the view out of the cafe was amazing, and it even came with a fireplace which attracted many diners to take photos with! There’s also several sheep out at the back of the cafe, though they aren’t fully engaged with us 🐑 ☕ coffee was alright, ordered the large one and shared it with my wife 🥞 the pancakes were amazing, opted for the yoghurt option with additional bacon and absolutely loved it - definitely helped that there’s a good amount of maple syrup, which made it sinful yet delicious. The fruits and yoghurt helped a little with the diet for sure though 🤤 Avocado toast was good as well, mushrooms was well flavoured and the portion was good enough to fill us up for hours. Definitely a good spot to stop by for a meal or just check out their shop!

A pit stop for us between Tekapo and Wanaka in the small town of Omarama but what a find. This place is excellent for a travel break if driving or if you are on a coach trip as many did. We ordered choc fudge cake and drinks …all were great. The selection of food available was very good and the brekkies served looked huge. Highly recommend plus if it’s a cold day they will probably have the open fire on the go!!

Super cute place that we stepped in while taking a break during our roadtrip. We were super surprised by the cute decor and the friendly atmosphere. We didn‘t try any of the food but there were some nice options available. The drinks (Mocca and Americano) were great. We also enjoyed strolling through the shops afterwards. The bathrooms were super clean and cozy as well. Would definitely come back!

We stopped for coffee and the loo on the way to Queenstown. It has a lovely fireplace so on a dull rainy day it's a perfect stop. It's a bit big a "tour group" stoping place though, so not a cosy quiet atmosphere. Cofee was average but service was excellent.

This cafe was a lovely stop on our way up to Lake Pukaki with our 13 month old daughter. I especially love the fresh flowers they put up around the cafe when opening in the morning, it really adds a nice touch and shows they like to make it a nice experience for customers. Service was friendly, coffee and food came out quickly and we both enjoyed our meals. They have high chairs available for babies, great grab and go food options if you’re in a pinch and clean toilets. It’s attached to a lovely gift shop with leather goods, soaps, etc. If we have time we’ll likely come back for lunch on our way back from our day trip.

Cafe
Café Encounter is a popular eatery located in Kaikoura, known for its beachfront location and stunning views. It's a favorite among both locals and visitors due to its superb breakfasts, lunches, smoothies, and quality coffee. Many people stop by before heading out for activities like dolphin swimming adventures to fuel up with fresh food. Despite not having a menu available, the cafe offers various options such as muesli and breakfast items.
We came in for a coffee and a quick bite to eat. Staff was really friendly and according to my friend the food is great ! It’s a bit more on the expensive side but for what you get definitely worth it. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The only thing is that it is right in the same building as the whale tours. But they are kind of separated just have the same toilets you have to use.

So the wife ordered a salad from the cabinet. It was from a bowl with tomato. Cucumber.red onions. Green olives and pieces of feta. Got back to our caravan for lunch and got a bowl of tomatoes.redonion and cucumber. Where's my olives and feta. 13 bucks for $4 of ingredients in a cardboard bowl... you lot need to do better.

Coffee is extremely small if you dine in paid $18 for two iced lattees and finished it in under 2 minutes. Do not recommend getting coffee here as size is extremly small. Maybe take away is bigger… disappointed incredible dolphin experience next door though 10/10

Great food, excellent coffee and smoothies. Friendly service and the best view in town. Easy parking. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We always stop here on the drive between Christchurch and the Sounds.

On the advice of our travel agent New Zealand In Depth we went to Cafe Encounter ten minutes early on the morning of our dolphin watch tour. Good advice! Just after we’d ordered the place was full inside and getting that way on the patio. The staff were very friendly and competent despite the pressure. Muesli and scrambled eggs were excellent. We went again the following day, having checked out the breakfast offer at our hotel next door. Their muesli mix wasn’t as good. And those hotel silver-domed food warmers signified pre-cooked rather than freshly scrambled eggs. At Cafe Encounter the service and food were again very good despite, or perhaps because of, the high traffic generated by the Encounter business. The team is used to dealing with large numbers of covers under time pressure, and their skills are well-honed. On our return from whale watching (spotted a rare Blue Whale!) we asked to be dropped off by the South Pacific Helicopters courtesy car at Cafe Encounter for lunch - delicious quiche and salad, plus chocolate and blueberry muffin. We’ll be there for breakfast for the third time tomorrow!

This cafe is buzzing, how stunning to be situated near the esplanade of gorgeous Kaikoura. We had lunch here today, plenty of outdoor, undercover, and indoor seating. You can order off the menu, or they have some beautiful cabinet food to choose from, too. Despite the cafe being really busy, our food was super quick to reach the table, and the service was friendly! I ordered eggs bene with bacon, and I have to say it was one of the nicest eggs bene I've had in a long time. The potato cake underneath the eggs and bacon was absolutely divine!!! Fluffy soft potato with an extra crispy outer, way better than a rosti, in my opinion, it was so good! Perfect eggs, too. Hubby ordered seafood chowder, and he loved that too. He said it was so packed with seafood and delicious. Coffee was great as well. We really enjoyed our lunch at Cafe Encounter, thank you.
