The Church of Panagia Paraportiani is a unique complex of five joined churches located in the Kastro neighborhood. Built in the 17th century, it stands out as an admirable architectural monument and a characteristic image of Cycladic temples. The church's whitewashed exterior and unconventional design reflect the island's vernacular architecture and Cycladic flair.
Nice attraction to visit in Mykonos . Tickets cost 2 Euros. They have small museums upstairs. Small church gift shop right side from entrance. The village itself is nice and it has nice coffee shops and restaurants. There is also good gift shop close by in the village for souvenirs.
Walaa M — Google review
As the “best” attraction in Mykonos, not really as good as expected. It doesn’t look that appealing when seeing it in person.
Alex T — Google review
The Panagia Paraportiani Church in Mykonos is a beautiful example of traditional Greek architecture whitewashed, simple, and very photogenic. Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited, so we couldn’t see the interior. The surrounding area was charming but could have been better maintained.
Xhulia P — Google review
Maybe I should read more history to get to know this church.
YJ S — Google review
Located at one edge of mykonos, next to the old ruins of the castle, is this small beautiful church. Magical and very romantic.. came almost sunset, enjoyed the beautiful view as well..
Reyner G — Google review
Arrive here early before the crowds. Then walk the trail from Fira to Oia. You don't have to go all the way, just as far as you feel good. Amazing views!
Thomas B — Google review
Very nice little church sitting at the edge with space around it. There is also a very nice corner where you can climb down a bit to reach some rocks if you want to take very nice pictures with the sea as your only background. When we were there, we saw smashed glass bottles and some other trash, so junkies or homeless people might have been there.
Calcen C — Google review
Charming church where sunset could be a delight. It’s a picturesque spot with ample amount of hidden treasures. It might get a lot crowded during evenings but there is a lot of space to sit and chill. The walk to this place is just around the corner and it’s a lot less noisy than the little Venice part of the town.

The Windmills of Mykonos, located at Kato Mili and within walking distance from Mykonos Town, are an iconic feature of the island. Perched on the highest hill, these 16 historic windmills offer a plethora of entertainment options and are a popular spot for capturing stunning sunset views. Seven of these 17th-century windmills have been beautifully restored in the Kato Mili region, providing visitors with a glimpse into their historical significance.
Great views and lovely place to visit. Very big tourist destination and caters to shopping. However, there are some nice bakeries and places to eat scattered throughout. Huge photo opportunities as a traveler.

One of Mykonos top landmarks, always full of people so I decided to wake up earlier and be there around 6:15 am for sunrise. You can see the results, not a single person did so and I had a lot of time to change my spots and play with sun. Go there between 6:00 and 6:30 and skip the crowds and boring daily photos with tens of other people. I am not a photographer, I just wanted to try my luck to wake up earlier and every day there were not a single individual. And those mills are simply stunning
Tomáš N — Google review
I would give this more stars if not for the huge tourist crowds and the ridiculous prices of the restaurants. The souvenirs were also more expensive than other tourist destinations. But the island is indeed beautiful and the scenery is definitely very photogenic. It gets quite loud and festive in the evening. Good for those who love bustling and busy atmosphere with breathtaking views. For those who like quieter places you can always steer away from the shore into the alleyways where there a small hidden gems.
JJ F — Google review
It was interesting to walk from the cruise ship to the windmills and see the beach areas along the way lined with many restaurants overlooking the sea. Walked thru the narrow streets to get a taste of Mykonos. Just in a few spots the walking paths are narrow and border the sea so be careful. Nice place to visit but not necessarily stay for a number of days.
Shailesh R — Google review
Mykonos Town in general: I had high hopes of Mykonos, old fashioned unspoilt little white-washed buildings, small narrow cobbled streets, lots of shops and restaurants within, very picturesque, small pretty churches dotted about. Nice harbour surrounded by cafes and restaurants, picture postcard stuff. I was not disappointed in that respect, absolutely amazing and pretty. Sadly, though, this is the town’s downfall and a major problem, as it attracts between 2-5 cruise ships a day during the holiday season. (Speaking to various locals, it appears the island more or less closes down out of season, Nov.-Mar., when the cruise ships stop coming). The thousands of cruisers makes the town very busy, people milling about trying to navigate the small alleyways and streets, and it can get very hot and oppressive. Mykonos has a reputation for being relatively expensive – make up your own mind. The whole town is geared to the cruise ship tourists and maximising their profits, charging stupid money for what is essentially typical holiday nicknack tat. The ‘supermarkets’ (read corner shops) only seem to sell booze, tobacco, toiletries, and crisps – nothing useful to sustain yourself if you were self-catering (there must be something somewhere on the island where you can buy meat and veg etc. but it’ll require a car or taxi as there’s nothing in the capital). Cheap nasty looking bottle of wine? Starts at around € 18.50; anything recognisable is € 30-50. The restaurant prices don’t seem too bad (is that because the cruise lot don’t eat there?), about what you’d expect to pay anywhere else, but where they do get you is on the booze, c. € 10-15 a pint. They typically only sell 33cl bottled beer at € 7-10. Some restaurants are asking € 80-90 for a bottle of wine. Your liver will enjoy this holiday. Another unusual influence is, I would estimate 90% of the restaurants more or less offer the same thing, listing themselves as Greek/Mediterranean/European – basically, Greek. The other restaurants call themselves Italian/Mediterranean/European, a nod to Italian, plus there are literally a couple of hints at Japanese. There is an Indian and a Mexican, half a mile outside the town up the big hill. I was disappointed by the lack of variety. Chinese/Thai? Forget it. I’m not sure I’ve been to any place in Europe that doesn’t have a number of Chinese restaurants. I was told that there are only 30 taxis on the island. They are not short of business. I wanted to book a trip to and from the Indian restaurant 10 mins away. I was told that there was no point trying to book a taxis as there was no guarantee they would turn up. So I booked a private hire to ensure we honoured the restaurant booking, € 72, kerching. I do not think I was being deliberately ripped off. I guess you cannot blame the locals for trying to make a good living, particularly, as in theory they only have 7 months in which to do so, but it’s very sad that such a lovely place – like so many around the world - has been ruined by tourism (driven by greed) and lost most of its authenticity.
Mark P — Google review
Watched the sunset on October 1st. Beautiful view! Got there about 30 minutes before the sunset and was able to grab a great spot on a bench. Lots of people gathered after us to watch the sunset here but there are plenty of spots to sit or stand near the windmills and below them.
Andrew S — Google review
Great views, plenty to see and do. If you are taking a cruise it’s a bit of a walk but very doable. There’s a lot to do throughout the walk. Plenty of stores and restaurants along the path.
Justin Y — Google review
As i have seen so many windmill pics from different social media, therefore the reality was no more big surprising. However the cute animals from this island made the place become more interesting.

The Nautical Museum of the Aegean is a comprehensive showcase of the rich maritime history of the Aegean Sea, spanning from ancient times to the present day. Situated in Mykonos Chora, it offers visitors an opportunity to delve into the seafaring legacy of this iconic region. Additionally, while exploring the area, art enthusiasts can visit contemporary international galleries such as Dio Horia Gallery and Rarity, both offering a diverse collection of works by talented artists from around the world.
Great little museum! Some wonderful history and the lighthouse is beautiful. The courtyard is a welcome escape from the crowds. Highly recommend.
Jacq V — Google review
Tiny maritime museum with several display cases. The best part of the visit to the museum was getting to see the beautiful, tranquil courtyard. On a busy, hot day in Mykonos town, I could see myself paying the admission fee just to spend some quiet time in the courtyard away from the throngs of tourist. Not sure the exhibits are worth the €4 admission fee. But the courtyard alone is worth €3 if you have time to sit and savor it.
Andrew H — Google review
An excellent visit today with a wonderfully warm welcome from the staff, one of the wonderful artists who has her jewellery in the museum shop, and even the owner! Would highly recommend exploring this hidden gem in the centre of town. It’s a little oasis of history, that the owners are incredibly proud to preserve. And if you are looking to buy something local and special, they have taken real care to stock the shop with artwork and jewellery from local sellers, a refreshing change from many other shops.
Rae G — Google review
What a wonderful museum! All the displays are beautifully presented and easy to enjoy. The maritime history of the Greek islands is amazing and this is the place to dig deeper. Newly renovated in 2024 the museum is first class! Of special note: amazing renovated lighthouse in the back yard; powerful headstones of maritime individuals; antiquities dating back to 3rd century bc; a great video about their two ships they have renovated. It’s a great place to bring kids too! Have them search for the real pirates chest! I also heard they turn the lighthouse at night sometimes!
Travis R — Google review
Visiting this museum is a truly unique experience. At first glance, the space seems small — but as you begin to observe each exhibit closely, you realize just how much there is to discover and explore. The interior holds pleasant surprises, including a lighthouse recreated just as it used to be when it was still in operation. It's clear that this museum was created with passion and love. What makes it even more special is that you wouldn’t expect to find something like this hidden in the alleys of an island more commonly associated with entertainment than with education, culture, and authentic experiences.
Alexandros L — Google review
This is an amazing boutique museum created from a family that loves the sea and sailing. If you pass by, spend 10 minutes to walk through and enjoy...especially the exhibits in the garden. The new shop created has also interesting items for gifts
Maria B — Google review
What an unexpected gem of a museum. Beautifully presented exhibits with knowledgeable staff. The courtyard itself is worth the modest admission price.
Lindsay F — Google review
A must see when visiting Mykonos! Right in the middle of the party scene of the island, a beacon of culture and history! You can navigate the maritime history around the Aegean sea and all its milestones from antiquity until the present time. Congratulations to the Aegean Maritime Museum and the recent renovation (2024) of its exhibition! Also... Great Museum Shop!! Quality gifts for souvenirs!!

Is not like a museum, is more a house decorated with all the ancient artifacts. It’s a very special place, full of energy and without the restrictions of the museum.
Beatriz V — Google review
€2 entry which is very fair. It’s not really a museum, more a collection of items and memorabilia from Mykonos’ history. There’s a self guided tour through a pamphlet which gives some information on what you’re seeing as you walk around. Spent about 45 minutes here.
James K — Google review
We've been here a few months ago. This small museum is open only in the afternoon but no photos allowed. Quite the collection of just about everything from the island. Every inch of space held something of historical value. Our travel planner Ali from heytripster(thanks so much btw.) told us is free but they request a donation. They didn't request but we wanted to donate a small fee.
Liam W — Google review
Amazing little museum with tons of artefacts and an amazing guide who's full of stories and is more than willing to answer questions. The museum is free, but donations are encouraged. Visiting in May with my boyfriend, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the museum, and left a small donation on our way out.

The building holds historical significance as it once served as accommodation for soldiers during the time of Manto Mavrogenous, a Greek Revolution heroine.
Enjoyed our First dinner in Mykonos and absolutely loved it. The service was warm and friendly and the food was delectable! Portion sizes were perfect and a meal that definitely that confirmed the reasons this is a well recommended restaurant. We got the Gyro (known as Gyro our style) and Cod. both dishes were spectacular! Our server Nodas was friendly, courteous and had a sense of humour that complimented our meal. We went to Kazarma our second night in Mykonos for dinner and it was phenomenal. Chris and Nodas recommended the Fresh Mediterranean Lobster in risotto (enough for 3 ppl) along with the Karzama salad. This was hands down the best lobster dish I’ve ever had. The service and atmosphere were top notch as well. I highly recommend Karzama and would definitely return in a heartbeat.

The charming white-washed building with a blue dome makes for perfect photo opportunities, showcasing the beautiful architecture of Mykonos.
A cute little church with a plain look on the outside, but extremely beautiful inside. During sunny days, the stained window projects colorful light on the ground, makes interior dreamlike.

This church is in the heart of Mykonos. It is a lovely blue and white on the outside and you often see sea gulls wheeling overhead because of its proximity to the harbor. The inside is brightly decorated and very interesting. There are 3 important historic figures buried within the church. There are candles lit and you can get one from the inside of the door to light for your own prayers. Beautiful to visit.

Nestled by the Old Port, this charming whitewashed chapel with its iconic blue dome is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. A landmark in Mykonos, its simple Cycladic design makes it a photographer’s dream. Built in the 18th century, it’s a heartfelt spot where fishermen still light candles before heading to sea. Inside, it’s a serene escape from the lively waterfront, with traditional icons and décor to admire. Don’t miss the view behind the chapel, where waves meet the stone quay. Perfect for history buffs and photographers, it’s a must-visit en route to Little Venice. No admission fee, visit near sunset for stunning golden light.

The Mykonos Castle, located in Chora (Mykonos Town), was built on a hill to protect islanders from pirate invasions. It offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and Delos island. Adjacent to it is the famous Panagia Paraportiani church, adding to its allure. Constructed by the Venetians in the 12th century, it served as a protective fortress until the 17th century.
Nice area to explore some ruins.

The castle itself doesn’t provide much and it’s more like a tourist’s free toilet rather than an actual attraction. At the edge of the wall you can find great spots to picture beautiful see scenery or take a selfie. One thing to note it’s very windy so hold on tight your glasses & other small accessories

It was very crowded the day we went and lots of shrubbery has overtaken the area around it. It took about 20min to walk there due to crowds, uneven stairs and ground. It is amazing to think how old this area is and how it was formed. The views are breath taking, but I could have seen views elsewhere on the island personally.

Ruins of the castle half open and another half across the road is a dig site
Dave T — Google review
The Castle of Mykonos is located north of Alefkandra (Little Venice), next to Panagia Paraportiani. It was built by the Venetians in the middle of the 12th century to protect the inhabitants from the invasions of pirates. The Castle of Mykonos is the first place that was inhabited. It was inhabited as a regular castle until the 17th century and its fortification consisted of the reinforced walls of the outer houses. It had three or four defensive turrets, of which today a small part of one is preserved at Panagia Paraportiani and another one to the south, next to Panagia Pryani. The Castle wall was essentially abandoned and the settlement spread in the era before the Greek revolution, when Mykonos experienced great economic growth. Thus the Town of Mykonos expanded to Barkia, Matogiannia, Niochori and Limni.
