Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica, is a picturesque port city on the western coast of the island. It's famous for being the birthplace of French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte and visitors can explore his ancestral home, Maison Bonaparte, which has been turned into a museum showcasing family heirlooms.

Maison Bonaparte, a national museum, was the family home of the Bonapartes from 1682 to 1923. It is where Napoleon Bonaparte was born in 1769. The house offers insights into the family's history and Napoleon's early life. Visitors can see the room of Napoleon's birth and learn about the family through a multi-lingual audioguide.
Fascinating glimpse into life in the 1700’s in Corsica and its history involving the British and Italian peoples who colonised the Island from time to time 😉 The audio guide is essential to get the most from your visit as the info panels are only in French. The queue was exceptionally well handled and ensured that the rooms in this house were never overcrowded as they are typical of houses of this period.
Simon B — Google review
If you’re fascinated by history, this is a must-see. It’s amazing to visit the actual house where Napoleon grew up, so much to take in and imagine from that era! But they could have made effort to make it a better experience.
Sara — Google review
This significant house, the childhood home of Napoleon Bonaparte, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle, furniture, and daily life of the family. However, the experience could be enhanced and made more educational. Unfortunately, there were no English text provided, and the audio guides were unavailable. As a result, we felt that we didn’t get as much as we had hoped. We would appreciate it if they could incorporate movies or videos that showcase the daily life of the family, their habits, and a brief history of the family tree. This would provide enthusiasts with much more to explore and learn. The ticket was 7 Euros per adult.
N.O.D M — Google review
Napoleon's birthplace. Interesting museum, although not much is the same as when he lived there. His history and that of his family is well outlined. You are given an audio tour device at the door and the narration is pretty good in English. In early October there was a small line up to get in, but it went quickly. Note that the museum is closed for about 45 minutes around lunchtime. Avoid bringing large backpacks if you can. Security check at the door.
Jyrki H — Google review
Nice little piece of great European history. Museum dedicated solely to Napoleon's early life, without emphasis on his military career. Well organised and not very crowded. Ten minutes waiting for entrance is to be expected and no liquids allowed inside.
J B — Google review
If you visit Ajaccio, you should definitely stop by this place — the house where Napoleon spent part of his life, now turned into a museum. The entrance fee is €7 for visitors over the age of 25.
Pelin A — Google review
So this was the childhood home of Napolis whom left at 9 years old to go to France military academy. He led a troubled youth on the island. So his dad shipped him off to military school with his brother. Inter sting note. This is not where he was as exiled to. Just where he started life. Family was poor. Rented rooms in the home. It was only many years later the family came into favor and money with the military escapades of Napoleon. Who interestingly sought to place his sisters and brothers in positions of power all throughout Europe. A very modest old building. Nothing really great to see but history as it occurred.

Fesch Museum

Mentioned on
1 list
Museum
Art museum
The Fesch Museum, located in the building once inhabited by Cardinal Joseph Fesch, Napoleon's maternal uncle, is a palace museum with a rich European art collection. Renowned for its Italian Masters and Napoleonic Collection, it also houses valuable Corsican paintings. The museum boasts an impressive array of Italian Primitive paintings from the 14th-15th century and holds 'museum of France' status.
The chapel was included, but overrated; the actual museum was fantastic though! Recommendation for improvement is to either add a translation to the text (or a QR code). What I loved about the museum was the depth of artwork it presented; it didn't have an overwhelming religious focus. Instead it sectioned each floor with a different focus: Corsica art in the basement, Napoleon Bonaparte and Bonaparte family on the ground floor, religious focus at the first floor that was mostly Christian themed, but did have some pagan themes, and everyday life artwork on the second floor.
Adam W — Google review
Nice artwork. Some of the artwork had too much direct sunlight to enjoy. Some of the darker pieces could have been best shown in a darker room as well. With relation to the artwork, I would have half the price of the entry ticket.
TravelingDave — Google review
Inconsistent family concept We were right in the middle of doing one of the family panflets when we first earned many mean looks and surveillance by the first floor staff. We didn't do anything wrong though, didn't run around, didn't touch anything, didn't eat, only talked about the art and the panflet. That probably annoyed them. Then all of a sudden we were told off VERY RUDELY for leaving our trolley in another room for a second while completing one of tasks (you had to search for a painting). When we took it with us we were SHOUTED AT that we have to navigate in the center of the corridor instead of to the right (we didn't want to block oncoming traffic). Ridiculous. Rules were clearly improvised to get rid of us. Overall, we felt excluded as a family in a sad case of adultism. How are you supposed to ignite interest in arts in children when they are made to feel unwelcome in museums that propagate to be family-friendly?
Jan B — Google review
If you are an art lover you are going to be engaged but not bowled over. Not the highlight one hopes for but there are some works from famous names and a lot of division two. Centre of old Ajaccio so you are going to visit but don't pin your holiday on it. Like so often en France, the beat is in Paris. The Bonaparte fetish is also in full swing which, despite the fact the locals don't like the guy, they milk him for all his ermine clad imperial worth.
John H — Google review
Fine arts of Corsica, history of napoleon and chapel of the Bonaparte family crypt! Must see!

An excellent collection of Napoleonic portraiture and one of the best collections of Italian 18th century art outside the Louvre, set in a beautiful renovated 3 level gallery in the middle of the Ajaccio shopping district.

Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta is a 16th-century Catholic cathedral located in Ajaccio, known for its baroque architecture and historical significance. It holds the distinction of being the baptism site of Napoleon Bonaparte in July 1771. The cathedral overlooks the sea and features a red marble plaque expressing Napoleon's last wishes to be buried with his ancestors in Corsica.
FIVE STARS – The interior of the Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta in Corsica (Ajaccio), France, is unexpectedly bold, beautiful and grand, especially when compared to the relative understated exterior of the structure. Napoleon Bonaparte's memorial is nearby...

Beautiful cathedral once visited by Pope Francis.
Joe L — Google review
Very interesting little cathedral. Unassuming on the outside. Inside there is some beautifully intricate stucco decor, but a fair bit of it is chalked on - I wonder why? Budget cuts? Plenty of candles to light inside if you have recently lost a loved one/ are worried about your bowel movements following that dodgy sandwich you are next door. There is also a brilliant organ behind you as you walk in, so don't forget to look up and all around you.
Aeronwy — Google review
A nice port town. Easy to get around. Indoor meat market at the port entrance- with fresh fruit and veg outside. The Cathedral is well worth a visit. Good variety of shops cafes etc. A small town but interesting features and history.

Outdoor Activities
Pointe de la Parata is a captivating destination located near a resilient string of craggy peaks that extend offshore, marking the northern limit of Ajaccio's Bay. The area offers a popular hiking loop leading to a ruined 16th-century tower with stunning island views. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling at nearby tropical-like sandy beaches or pristine coves like Cala di Reta.
Well worth the trip. It’s a bit of a drive from Ajaccio along the coast road but well worth a trip as it’s a lovely walk. Very easy from the car park. Longer options and loops are available and looked great.

Restaurant
A Nepita is a cozy restaurant in Ajaccio, offering traditional Corsican cuisine with a contemporary twist. Run by British chef Simon Andrews and his wife Roberta, the restaurant surprises diners with a different menu each day based on seasonal ingredients. The establishment is conveniently located in the city center near the peaceful Place Abbatucci. Despite being situated in a touristy area, A Nepita stands out for its authentic and high-quality Corsican dishes.
On a warm and humid night, an outside table doesn't come with any interesting views, unlike those around the harbour. However, you come to A Nepita for the food, so prepare to be fine dined! The welcome is warm and friendly with a small range of options on the regularly changing menu. But the quality in taste and presentation is of the highest order. The wine list also pays respect to what Corisca produces. Don't come if you're looking for a cheap meal. Do come if you're looking for something a bit special.

Hidden in a side street down the Tribunal Judiciaire d’Ajaccio, this little restaurant offers fine cuisine and good service. They had three starters, three main courses and three desserts plus Corsican cheeses to choose from. My wife and I ordered five different dishes plus cheese, all were very yummy! 😋
Edmund T — Google review
Wonderful restaurant. Food was first class. Service was faultless and the chef was introduced to us at the end. Simon is a very nice affable guy. If I had longer in Ajaccio I would go back in a heartbeat.
Lee T — Google review
We loved the food here. My wife said the octopus was the best she's ever had, which is a high compliment since that is one of her favorite things. No issues accommodating our allergies even on the prix fixe menu for lunch (we got a different starter than was offered on the regular lunch menu for that day). Great experience and a good value for the lunch set menu.
Matthew D — Google review
This restaurant is on a side street a bit away from the very touristy areas of Ajaccio. It is only slightly more expensive than the tourist restaurants closer to the water, but the delicious food and great service more than make up for that. Creative, good tasting food with wonderful local Corsican ingredients and inspiration. A gem.
Steven T — Google review
Wonderful family restaurant very close to the Musee Fesch in Ajaccio. Friendly, professional service with a very reasonably priced lunch formule. Pasta with fresh girolle mushrooms was amazing, as was the fish main and the reconstructed Snickers Bar dessert rocked. Highly, highly recommend. A short but judicious and well-priced wine list. Do reserve ahead, and enjoy! We will be back!
Tom W — Google review
Outstanding small and authentic restaurant in a sea of tourist places. Impeccable and delicious local specialities with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Small local wine list. Worth a detour. Service very friendly and welcoming. Do not skip dessert!! Prices are reasonable for a place of this quality, with starters around €20 and mains between €20 and €30

Beautiful restaurant! I booked this for a birthday treat for my partner, and messaged ahead as I am vegan, and was so pleasantly suprised with the feast prepared for me! He even remembered vegan protein (which is rare for some non vegan establishments!). Tomato tartare with Quinoa, courgette ravioli and fruits, sorbet and mint. Sublime- thank you A Nepita!

Petit Train d'Ajaccio- Trinichellu d’Aiacciu

Mentioned on
1 list
The Petit Train d'Ajaccio- Trinichellu d’Aiacciu is a charming and convenient way to explore the city without having to walk. There are two train options, one offering a 45-minute tour around town with a stop at Napoleon's statue, while the other takes you along the coastline to the islands, allowing for a 20-minute break for photos. The train conductor provides informative commentary on highlights such as Napoleon Bonaparte and the old town.
Great way to avoid the traffic in Ajaccio and see the sights, that you can later explore at your leisure. We took the long tour to the Iles Sanguinaire and got a great view of the coast and Napoleon’s Grotto on the first ‘train’ of the day. Excellent value at almost 2hrs. Top tip: turn up 20 minutes early to buy your ticket to get a good seat in the wagon.
Simon B — Google review
This train allowed us to see a lot more of the area than we would have on our own. We were on the first train of the day. When we came back, there was a line of people waiting.
Jolene K — Google review
Not a bad way to make the most of a short trip to Ajjaccio as arrived on cruise ship. The had two trips one is 50 minutes long and cost €12 persons or 2.5 hours cost € 16 each We went on the 1.5 hours . It has two stops one by the monument of Napoleon statue for 15 minutes and another stop for 15 minutes on the coastal road where there are toilets , coffee, ice cream van . We found it was just enough time to get a feel of Corsica . You pick it up just after the indoor market in the square. The square has cafe , restaurants, pubs . Try it it’s worth it as there is no way you could see as much if walking .
Julie H — Google review
We took the long tour and enjoyed the scenery without having to navigate the horrendous traffic and lack of parking in Ajaccio. Our tour stopped at the Napoleon’s monument and then went all the way to the Sanguinarie and back to the city centre. As a tourist thing to do this is quite pleasant. Tour explanations in English and French.
Dan D — Google review
An absolute disaster – not recommended at all! We bought our tickets at the counter and specifically asked if we could sit two people per bench because one person in our group has a disability and cannot bend their knees properly. Our request was ignored. When the train arrived 10 minutes late, a very unpleasant discussion started with the lady who sold us the tickets. She insisted that we had to sit four people on the bench, even though we explained that this wasn’t possible. Instead of finding a solution, she told us to get off the train! After a long, stressful argument, we were finally allowed to stay, but still had to sit four to a bench. The staff were extremely rude and disrespectful – something we have never experienced before. The driver didn’t speak English and drove off without any communication. For a tourist destination, this was absolutely unacceptable. The ride itself? After 10 minutes through the city, we stopped at the Napoleon Monument for 15 minutes – but it was just a parking lot, with nothing interesting to see. Then we left the city, and the train started swaying dangerously at high speeds – a huge safety risk! After a brief stop at the highest point of the tour, we headed straight back. Overall, this trip was a complete rip-off, and this "tourist train" should be shut down. All the staff were unfriendly and disrespectful towards tourists. There are far better ways to explore Ajaccio. Absolutely not recommended! Unfortunately I have to give one star to review.
Pascal S — Google review
We did the long route (up to Les Sanguinaires islands). Very fun activity, worth it.
Steve C — Google review
This was a very enjoyable train trip along the coast of Corsica. It stopped at Napoleon's monument and then went along the coast. It went much further than we expected and we felt it was good value for money.

Corsica

Mentioned on

Island
Corsica is a stunning Mediterranean island known for its charming coastal towns, vibrant beaches, and rugged hiking trails. The island offers diverse experiences, from exploring ancient fortresses and relaxing on beautiful beaches to embarking on adventurous hikes through picturesque landscapes. With its rich history of occupation by various civilizations and strategic defensive position in the Mediterranean, Corsica boasts numerous towers and citadels that add to its unique charm.
A beautiful island. We spent wonderful days right by the sea and were able to hike in the mountains. The food was incredibly good and the wine was tasty.
Sebastian S — Google review
Some things tourists and travellers should know about Corsica before visiting: -There is an active mafia presence. One night we heard an altercation outside of our accomodation near Corte which involved several gunshots. The island has one of the highest murder rates in Europe. -Corsica is very much geared to French tourism. This is why the vast majority of direct flights are to French or Belgian airports. The only other tourists we met were German. Don't expect a warm welcome if you speak English and don't expect a high level of English from people working in hospitality. -The roads are very fast and challenging. Be prepared to let locals pass. Among young people road accidents are 4 times more common than on the mainland. -In many accommodations you must pay extra for linens and towels and do your own cleaning or risk a hefty cleaning fine. -This similarly applies to car rentals where you must vacuum the car before returning it. They will also force you to pay their direct insurance and deposit even if you have payed your insurance through an agent or comparison site. -You will never be able to check out any time after 10am and check-in is often limited to weirdly restricted hours such as 4.30-7.30pm. -Everywhere has uncomfortable square pillows, not rectangular. No idea why. Also you will often not be provided with shampoo etc. -Many of the sights require exposed hiking and/or tricky parking. As much of the coastal land is privately owned, expect unusual access points. Bonifacio in particular can be hard to park on a busy day. -Bonifacio, Calvi and Porto Vecchio and the beaches on the East Coast are the highlights of the island. Also the Col du Bavella hikes are worth doing. Note that a flood as done damage to the road leading to the famous lake hikes in Restonica Valley so they are now unmanageably long. -Expect a dose of old school rustic and rural France with a lot of smoking and very little open-mindedness or international influence. If you like speciality coffee etc you will be very disappointed - expect endless bitter espressos. The roastery in Ajaccio was the best we found but still not great. I hope this is useful!
DCP — Google review
We took the ferry from Genoa to Corsica, which was an all day affair. The first thing I noticed on our 3 hour drive to Porto Vecchio is how aggressive the drivers are. There are some very scenic towns and beaches to visit. People are not over friendly, but they are receptive to tourists. Found a couple of good restaurants but overall disappointed. It’s expensive here so make sure you bring lots of cash. It was overall a nice place to visit.
Debbie L — Google review
The GR20, spanning 180 kilometres across the rugged landscapes of Corsica, is renowned as one of Europe's most challenging hiking trails. This legendary route traverses mountainous terrain, offering spectacular, ever-changing scenery that rewards the effort of each ascent. However, it also presents significant challenges: steep, rocky paths, the constant risk of rockfalls, exposed sections, and the potential for slips and falls, particularly in wet conditions. The GR20 demands both physical fitness and careful preparation, making it a true test for even the most experienced hikers.

Beautiful island. Fabolous beaches on the east side of the island. Stupid working times for restaurants and shops - they do not work in the morning (no breakfast) or in the middle of the day (no lunch). Watch out for the drivers in the middle of the island and on the western side, they drive like they want to have a head-on collision with everyone. On the east and south they mostly drive OK. Bring your umbrellas, drink and food to the beach. Food in restaurants is nice, when they work.

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Ajaccio, U Papacionu is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Corsican-style pizzas. This charming eatery boasts an inviting atmosphere that makes every dining experience memorable. The pizzas are not only generous in size but also perfectly crispy and juicy, rivaling some of the best Italian offerings around. With attentive and friendly staff who ensure you feel right at home, it's no wonder this spot fills up quickly during peak season—so be sure to make a reservation!
We arrived around 11:30 PM, when the kitchen was supposedly closed, but to our surprise and luck, we were warmly welcomed with a smile. We were very hungry after a late arrival in town, and with supermarkets already closed, this was a lifesaver. Our pizzas arrived in about 10 minutes and both were delicious. The shape and style of the pizza was unique, unlike anything we’ve seen elsewhere. Huge thanks to the waitress and the chef for treating us kindly and not seeing us as a burden despite the late hour! We’d happily return anytime.
Szabina S — Google review
The gentleman who greeted us first denied we had a reservation but finally found it. There were numerous tables available but we were escorted to a far one closer to the end of the street. I requested one of the more central tables but was rudely told that is not my table and it was reserved. Soon after another (French speaking) couple arrived and he offered them a choice of tables, including the one I had wanted. That said, the pizza was very good and the service ok. I noticed that the owner tries to discount all negative reviews by claiming the reviewer never ate there. I definitely did, enjoyed the food but not the attitude.

U Papaccionu in Ajaccio, Corsica, is our go-to spot for an amazing dining experience. Every visit is a delight, thanks to the inviting atmosphere and the mouth-watering pizzas. Crazy good and creative pizza. We had high expectations and they were thoroughly surpassed. I had the Pepperoni. Spicy with three big chunks of chevre. Highly recommended. Also, the surroundings are very charming. Will be back! PS: Remember to order a table.

Had dinner here last week, within 4 hrs I had food poisoning. I think there is something terribly wrong with the food quality and the way they cook it. Besides that the waiters are very rude persons and they want you to hurry to order. Worst place in Corsica I have been. Stay away, choose elsewhere!
Mark — Google review
Very disappointed. Having read the reviews, I was expecting that this would be a decent pizzeria. Even though the outdoor seating was nice, and the people working there were friendly, the quality was below what I would consider to be "ok". The order arrived within 10 minutes of ordering it, and the first thing that stood out was that the crust was too thick, dense, and not well cooked. The rest wasn't much better. The other pizzas I saw didn't look much different. Not having been to other pizzerias in Ajaccio, it is hard to tell how this compares to other places. All I can say is that the quality is below what you can get in Paris (which is pretty bad), and not nearly as good as what you would normally get on the Mediterranean.

Came by on a Friday night and they were closed, so I'm not sure this place is still in business.

It is only slightly more expensive than the tourist restaurants closer to the water, but the delicious food and great service more than make up for that. Creative, good tasting food with wonderful local Corsican ingredients and inspiration. A gem.

Pizza restaurant
L'Epizzeria fredo is a popular eatery located just 2 kilometers from our hotel, making it a pleasant stroll to reach. The courteous and professional staff warmly welcomed us and served faultless pizzas made with high-quality ingredients. Despite the bustling atmosphere, we managed to secure a table without a reservation, and the wait was well worth it. The accommodating nature of the team extended to creating a special pasta dish for an 8-year-old diner.
Great service, they were very friendly and made extra space for us to eat outside (group of 6 people). The food was very delicious. We had the antipasti for 4 persons and then each a pizza. Both were very delicious!

Probably the best pizza in Ajaccio, other dishes also delicious, service top, the chef a super nice guy, prepared for us especially some dishes to take with on the ferry although the restaurant was closed at that hour. Next time on Corsica this place is a must for us, and just because of the top people there and their delicious food. Thanks a lot for everything, we had a great experience!

Best meal in Ajaccio and was so good we went back the next night! Friendly and helpful service from Barbara and Jerome as well as the chef himself Fredo :) delicious and fresh Sardinian food! One of the best Italian pasta’s of my life. Will be going back next year if we can!

Best Pizza in town with cheap prices compared to normal price level in Ajaccio. Quite a bit to walk from the inner city but totally worth it. Owner arranged an additional table as restaurant was already full. Fantastic!

We came to this restaurant on Sunday evening, at the end of March, when nearly all in Ajaccio was closed. We were very tired after long journey from Warsaw. We met very hospitable People here and super pizza with spinach and brocciu. We recommend this place very much! Greetings from Poland!

Le Bistrot Gourmand in Ajaccio is a charming restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The chef presents a variety of menus featuring local products and delicious cuisine, making it difficult to choose just one dish. The impeccable and friendly service creates a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel right at home. Despite the high quality of food and service, the prices are surprisingly affordable.
All dishes are very good, staffs are experienced with warm welcome. Best restaurants experience for this Ajaccio trip and would come back again.

Beautiful food and service! The friendly chef explained the menu to us, and we both enjoyed a set menu of grilled octopus entrees and then fish and beef as our mains. Everything was cooked to perfection - tender, fragrant, and perfectly seasoned! Service was also very quick which we appreciated! The only downside was the man next to us who smoked 4 cigarettes in the one hour we were there that we decided to leave without having dessert as the smell was becoming too much.

It is a delightful restaurant that looks down to the Golfe. The menu is explained to you personally by reading each offering one item at a time, to you. All items I've had have been excellently and tastefully prepared. Come by 8pm reservation or you will wait as all tables are reserved. I have eaten there 3 times for dinner and not once disappointed. We had an amazing dinner at Le Bistrot Gourmand during our vacation in Corse. Very artisan and friendly. Food was delicious and the service very attentive and impeccable. The kelner explained about every dish and the choice of food and wine was quite wide. Very reasonable priced also! Artisan French home cooked meal! One of the favourite places in Ajaccio. Highly recommended. Thank you!

We went here for lunch, twice, it was extraordinary! Small menu of four main starters, courses and desserts. I had a octopus salad as starter and a variety of mixed seafood and the fish filet as main course. It was delicious!!! The staff was so sympathetically and welcoming it was a total pleasure!

The Italian Lady was very friendly and helped us to place our bags and everything! Very supportive. We were 3 persons and were eating for lunch here. Their selection of meats and cheeses from Corsica is unparalleled, featuring the most exquisite flavors you'll find anywhere in the world. The focus here is on highlighting these exceptional ingredients, which are expertly incorporated into their board sandwiches and salads. Everything they serve is fresh, locally sourced, and prepared with great care.
A very good local place to try cheese and charcuterie. But they accept only cash. We were three of us and one board of mixed charcuterie and cheese was more than enough for us.

Friendly staff, fluent english, Corsica burger was delicious. As a guy, to feel full I needed two dishes, but due to the very fair prices I still payed less than I would have in other places nearby. Can be served like in normal restaurant but can also buy everything on the menu in the small store.

My partner and I came to this lovely establishment in late May 2024, where we ordered 2 baguettes. Quite simply, these were the most delicious baguettes we have ever eaten. The two ladies who own and manage this establishment were so kind and lovely, and the products they sell, cheese, charcuterie are all supplied from a farm that one of the ladies own on the island. My partner is telling me that his mouth still waters when he thinks about that baguette! Mine too! I think that the one we had was called a "complete", it had cured ham, 2 different cheeses, one goats, one sheep, and a delicious tomato salsa, all from the farm! I cannot remember your names, but to the two lovely ladies who own and run the establishment, we remember you very much, you were so kind, charming and interesting. If we ever visit your beautiful island again, you can be assured that we will come see you again, and order another of your incredible, world-beating filled baguettes!! To anyone reading this, honestly, I've travelled far and wide, I've eaten literally thousands of sandwiches, perhaps tens of thousands, but the sandwich/baguette I had from A Casetta Produits Corses came from the heavens!! 5 stars, I'd give 200 if I could!! The prices were very reasonable compared to other establishments we saw locally. With much love, Eddy and Joe from rainy Angleterre!! Xxxx

A jewel hidden in a small street next to the city cathedral! Very cool service and good food . Need to book in advance as there is only few tables in the restaurant.
Adrian — Google review
We wanted to love this restaurant based on the menu, the ambiance and very friendly service. However, we really cannot reconcile the prices of the main dishes with what we received. While the quality is undoubtedly high, the scallop and courgette penne consisted of at most three scallops and five shreds of courgette skin - the rest was pasta in cream. The prawn spaghetti was generally lacking in flavour and the spaghetti itself was barely cooked (definitely not al dente). Their heaviness made us both quite sick afterwards. The starters of eggs mimosa and courgette flower fritters were tasty but, again, the prices seem to high for these. The iles flottante was full of vanilla and a true delight.
Lucy — Google review
To put it politely: meh... Food isn't really bad but both our dishes were very bland and nothing special. Mediocre food that doesn't the prices. Also our salad wasn't washed properly so there was a lot of sand in it. But what was not okay was the fact that we waited more than 1 1/2 hours on our food! And no apologies either. I don't know if this is a french or specific corse thing but they were a little to nonchalant about having us sit there forever to get a plate of pasta and some beans. I really wanted to like this place but I cannot recommend it at all. What a shame.

This is an amazing place both for children and adults. My children found the ice cream wonderful and after eating it had the time of their lives inside with the chalkboard, toys, books and little tables to play on. Surf music on an old stereo played in the corner. The decorations and interior design are very well done. The washroom clean and decorated as well. The owner was very kind and courteous. The staff also loved their jobs. I could feel a real spirit to the establishment, that everyone involved in it got a sense of joy from making the customers happy. Beautiful location and view from the terrace. Service was very kind and the food was good. We had menu for 30 eur (a starter - mussels or carpaccio, main dish is fish and a dessert of your choice). Oui, oui, oui! We popped by here for a snack and some sunshine and I was so impressed with how hard the team was working. With only two servers and a bartender for a busy patio, you could tell they were working really hard to make sure everyone got what they needed. We enjoyed the petit beuf tartar (which was actually the perfect size) and had a perfect bowl of hand cut frites with, drum roll please, a creamy mushroom sauce that I will be thinking about for a long time. Merci!

I’ve left a number of 5 star reviews at various restaurants over the years.. my experience here has me thinking I need to go back and adjust a lot of those down to 4 stars when I compare them to Bistro Canaille.. incredible flavors, local wine, amazing views, and super friendly servers.. we shared several plates, it’s hard to describe the complexity and harmony of how they put the various ingredients together in these dishes.. whatever you order, make sure you also get the egg plant salad too..

The restaurant is known for serving authentic dishes, particularly their mouthwatering pizzas which are widely considered some of the best in town.
Great staff, food, drink and service. Whilst the restaurant was closing at 2pm they were happy to seat us at 13:50. Beer was great and the pizza was fantastic. The staff allowed me to practice my French and helped out in English when I "got stuck'. Really enjoyed our lunch there.

We had dinner inside, even if there is a terrace. The internal area is nicely decorated, the staff friendly, service fast but not hurried. I had a chicken burger and my husband a steak. Both were excellent and the portions even too large. We drank an excellent red local wine. Good place, price’s medium/high.
Dan D — Google review
We ate really well, everything was delicious. I didn't leave a tip for this reason: ▪︎ Criticism is at the service of the local, a plate with sauce included, but we paid for it as an extra (so it's like paying twice). ▪︎ The ice pack was leaking water, he changed the bag but didn't dry the table 🤷🏻‍♂️ (see the last photo our conditions). ▪︎ They forget to serve food (I wonder if it arrived, so they understand the oversight). Both unpleasant cases, they don't even apologize, in this way they show that they are rude. 3 stars are only for the food.
Giuseppe G — Google review
We dined at the restaurant, not the hotel, though Google Maps doesn’t distinguish between the two, which is odd. The service staff were warm and welcoming, creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, the dishes didn’t quite meet expectations. ‘The Gourmande,’ featuring seared duck breast, smoked duck breast, foie gras, and gizzards, was flavorful individually but lacked cohesion as a dish. Similarly, we expected the risotto to be cooked in the rich octopus tomato sauce, but they were served separately, which felt disjointed. The burger, ordered medium, arrived overcooked and dry, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, the experience was mixed…

Very charming restaurant in a quiet pedestrian area. Great selection of dishes, freshly prepared and well presented. The prices are average for Ajaccio. The service was very friendly and attentive and the staff speaks english as well. The interior is very cosy and a nice spot for a drink in the evening.

Recommended restaurant in Ajaccio. Nice meals and friendly and helpful staff. As a curiosity and anecdote that we will keep from our journey, the manager made us known and put the song "Hegoak" on (our Txoria Txori). Euskaldunak eta Corsoak bat eginda! I Baschi è i Corsi sò unu!

Unfortunately, besides the long wait (over 1.5 hours in the night heat with two kids), the quality of my plate (pasta with slow cooked veal) was not great. Most of the table ordered burgers (which seem to be the restaurant’s specialty), which in retrospect would’ve been a wiser choice. We learned towards the end of the meal that unfortunately the chef did not turn up… had we been warned, I would’ve ordered a pizza or something else.

Bastia Poretta BIA airport is located 17km south of Bastia, Haute Corse. It offers convenient transportation options such as a bus shuttle service to Bastia town center and proximity to the Casamozza station. The airport is known for its helpful staff and accessibility. Additionally, it provides clear instructions for security procedures and maintains clean restroom facilities. While prices may be higher, this is typical for an airport setting.

Too many flights at the same time and not enough busses to transport to aircraft. Incredibly slow check-in and OK security check. No place to sit and barely enough space for all the people waiting for their flights. Do not want to come here again.
Maja M — Google review
Little airport. Really good toilets in the arrival/departure hall but inside after the security control there are much less seats as passengers. Not good at all. I guess there is just enough seating for 1 small aircraft. I remember some African airports with the same standard or even better....

Stay away if you can. I have been to both Ajaccio airport and Figari. This is by far the worst. It’s extremely crowded. This airport is far to small for the extreme amount of people. The personel are very confused. Too be allowed first to check in your bags less then 1 hour before departure is very bad planning of the airport! When you enter the security check, there is absolutely nothing there. The stores and cafes have a que of 90 people waiting for a water. This is just extreme. Will not come back and will avoid this airport.

Small airport. No self check in or bag drop. Only a few kiosk. Small duty free. Long lines for check in. Buses to the aircraft. Not well functioning. Wc clean. Good parking. Rent a car pick up some hundred meters away. Mostly domestic flights.
Jon B — Google review
Feels like 3rd world airport: Long queues almost everywhere for check-in, car rental etc. The waiting area at the gate is the lowest comfort ever, as many people need to sit on the floor at it seems too much effort to install some more seats.
A L — Google review
The worst airport experience I’ve ever had. No food or drink vending machines, no soap in the toilets, and only one board to find your gate after check-in. The croissant and coffee were terrible, and the prices are questionable. After check-in, there’s just one tiny souvenir shop, and before check-in only a single bookshop. Overall, a really poor experience. I’ll never come back to this airport!

Figari-South Corsica Airport

Airport
Figari-South Corsica Airport, also known as Figari Sud-Corse Airport (FSC), is located approximately 25km from Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio in Corse du Sud. The airport offers limited shuttle bus service to Porto Vecchio and is just 4km from Figari village. Despite being a small airport, it provides essential facilities for travelers. It's advisable to book flights early due to fluctuating prices throughout the year.
Volitea check in staff are excellent & extremely helpful especially with our little chihuahua Blue. All the staff here are approachable, pleasant & ready to help.Security Staff include & they are thorough. Departure lounges are small for the amount of passengers boarding an Airbus 320. Once in the departure lounge I was going to complain the only water available was in the toilets. However, the little cafe then opened up and drinks were available. I'm sure it will feel claustrophobic in the high summer season.
Martin W — Google review
Small but perfectly formed. This airport shows that airports don't need to be massive to fulfil the needs of passengers. The staff were very helpful when I used it in my flights to and from the UK in 2023 and the walk to and from the aircraft and the terminal was the shortest I've seen at any airport I've been to.
Simon B — Google review
Don’t fly to this airport. On arrival they don’t indicate where to get your luggage. On departure there is total chaos, no ordered cues, people skipping the line because that’s totally possible, entering the security check takes ages because they only have 2 (!!) portals. I think it’s worth the money to fly somewhere better.
Jules V — Google review
I was a bit worried reading all the reviews, but I have to say I had a very positive experience overall: all staff was kind and helpful, there were seats if we wanted and the toilets were clean (especially before security, but the after one was also not ‘that’ bad). Probably it depends on the day of the travel, we had a 9:40 flights and before it was 3 at 8 am, after 10:15, so basically our flight was the only passengers probably on the airport. And also it depends on one’s attitude: if you rude and inpatient, probably the staff will react accordingly 🤷 (what is not nice, but c’est la vie francais / corse 😅) So for a small airport, not that bad, they might need to consider repositioning their shops after security and extending the waiting area here if they have so many flights. Except - last minute - they are really unorganised 😨… they forgot to check the passports after boarded half of the passengers 🤦‍♂️… so starting again 😏 Back to 4 as they sorted out efficiently 💪
Zoltan L — Google review
One of the worst experience! We have our flight in 1h and 30 minutes, waiting at the line and when trying to pass the security check a lady comes and tells us that "we're too early and we can not enter and we need to wait again in line for 20 minutes".
Catalin U — Google review
One of the most amazing airports I've been in! Stupid? Noo, I'm actually the stupid one. After waiting in the security line for about 25/30 minutes, the security guy replies with "you have to wait for the call to come to the security" while pointing to the screen. He seemed like a nice person tho. It's a good thing I only speak portuguese and english because none of these were useful :D - I look at the indications in english on the screen.. and there's none. Just says "on time", which is great, because at this rate, at least one of us is going to be on time! Only after we went to the information desk (they speak english, their english is great, 5 stars, coming from someone who only has portuguese as their first language) they decided to let everyone know that... That... The security for our flight was outside, and we could now start going over there! I have no beef with people working there, they were all really nice to me personally, professional, the organization of the airport is just a bit awful. I'm guessing most tourists go to Corsica during summer, which makes the airport go beyond it's capacity. Maybe, for the construction to be "profitable", people would have to come in at large or at least more during winter, fall, etc.. So I guess this will just keep going until they decide to expand it nonetheless the effort-profit, and sacrifice their quality in the meantime. For the people who say "other people are being too judgemental or being overly dramatic", just remember to kindly not invalidate other people's feelings/experiences considering you wouldn't like for someone to say your review is "too optimistic or too good" either.

This is the worst airport I’ve ever been, it’s so small and chaotic in July for how many flights they handle. It’s a SHAME TO FRANCE and to this beautiful island.
David S — Google review
Air Corsica (Air France) check-in personnel either speak no English, or 4th grader level English. 30 - 40 minute delays, wait times and near zero charging ports at this airport. Expect abysmal service.

Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport

Airport
Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport, also known as AJA, is located just 6 km east of the city harbor. Travelers can easily reach the airport by taking bus number 8 from the town's train station or bus number 12 from P+R Campo dell'Oro. Taxis and rental car services are also available at the terminal for convenient transportation options. Despite being Corsica's main airport, it is relatively small in size.
Small airport, well-organized. Not too crowded outside peak holiday times.

small airport with not enough capacity for the influx of travelers during summer - once past security (long line, one working check point) there is no real food options except a bar with a few stale muffins and chips and mostly alcohol. 80% of people standing as they don’t have enough seats for the outbound traffic and inside is chaos
Addie W — Google review
Very nice small airport, it runs very efficiently and was easy to get around. They have nice food and a bar and chicken is a breeze.

Tiny airport, easily accesible from downtown Ajaccio with not many facilities. You walk to the plane, there is no shuttle
Urban T — Google review
Small airport, short distance to everywhere and friendly staff in general. They require you to print the tags at the machines firstly. Then wait for long lines to get to the drop-off counters which is another long line. There was no priority for families with infants. For baby trolley, you still have to go to another counter to drop it off. Then at the security check, again no fast lanes. And finally at the gates there was just one place for drinks/food. Then another lane for passport control and finally boarding (third time checking passports).

Heard air traffic controller go to sleep while working! Be aware!

Badly maintained airport with not much facilities. The toilets are okay, but the rest of the airport is shambles. Over priced everything and no substantial food places to eat apart from bakery. The boarding and check-in is a nightmare and the staff are not much helpful either. Would avoid it if there was a choice but unfortunately it’s the biggest airport in Corsica.

Flight on Sunday 12 May at 8:15. Arrived on time 6:30 or so, deposed baggage and joined the long queue for security. There seemed to be many passengers who arrived late for flights to Paris, Nice and Marseille. We let them all pass as their flight was leaving sooner than ours. When we eventually reached the place where you enter the area with the security scanners a short haired woman approached to ask us where we were flying to and when we responded with our destination her response was to treat us like we had behaved like naughty children, saying “non non, c’est pas possible - sortez, vous êtes trop tot. Our problem was her manner- rude, condescending, loud. Instead of explaining that although yes we had done nothing wrong and in fact had followed the instruction sent by the airline to arrive early, we needed to wait, she was just so rude and treated us like children in maternelle who had no idea what was going on. We left the area and went back to told we could now re- queue. Once through to the scanners we had to for some reason have our boarding passes rescanned before hand-luggage had to scanned and then another rude experience which is something I have never seen in any airport a security guard of some sort sticks his arm out to stop you walking through until he decided it is ok. Process took over an hour. On top of that bathroom not very clean. Poor experience after such a great stay in Corsica. A poor way to leave.

Calvi Sainte-Catherine Airport

International airport
Domestic airport
Calvi Sainte-Catherine Airport is located in the northwest corner of Corsica, approximately 13 kilometers from the trailhead in Calenzana and about seven kilometers from the coastal city of Calvi. The airport is small with limited facilities and no public transportation services, so travelers should be prepared to take a taxi.
small airport with it's special flair. easy going, easy living. small cafe with great view directly to the field (great!). very friendly personal! and the best clock i've ever seen at an airport :-)

This is the most horrific airport and staff that have ever existed in the history of airports. I witnessed a beautiful dog murdered by the conveyor belts, and the worst part was that the staff didn’t even care. They didn’t show any compassion towards the animal or the owner. She was covered in blood and dead before the owner saw her. The owner had to leave her dead dog. The only concern the airport had was fixing the concept belts. I will never step foot in this hellscape again. One star is too good for this place but I have to click it to be able to post this review. 0 out of 5!

Beautiful views. Horrible staff. The security staff is negligent and arrogant. I’m a professional photographer traveling with film and they refused to hand check even though we arrived 2 hours in advance and there was practically no one in the line. To add insult to injury the condescending staff even scoffed something about film being a trend amongst young people. Horrible unprofessional staff. I’ve been better treated in a run down McDonald’s than in this « touristic » airport. Great Corsican welcome. Will recommend the city, won’t recommend the horrid airport

The worst airport I've been to. Sure, the views outside are beautiful, but that's the only good thing about this place. The security crew is unqualified, rude and racist (xenophobic). Especially the two women checking the baggage - terrible experience. I was forced to pay an additional fee of 70€ for something a person after me (who had the same problem) was not charged - not even bothered at all, only because they were French... In my opinion that is totally unprofessional and unacceptable. I had a horrible experience here, and I would definetely not reccomend.
Lewy P — Google review
Disgusting. You let a beautiful dog get crushed between conveyor belts and not even cared to get it out before the owner's flight left? I hope no one ever sets a foot in this hellhole.
Kavya K — Google review
They let a dog died and did nothing about it. Did more for the conveyor belt that crushed her than for the family. No empathy at all.
GabZ — Google review
A small airport that for the mostpart seems to work efficiently. The downside is the poor service into Calvi itself. The only way of doing this is to use expensive taxis (24 euros for a very short trip). There is no shuttle bus. The taxis were none existent when we arrived. We waited well over 15 minutes for one to turn up. Surely this situation has to be remedied?

Justice for Brookie. a dog was tragically killed in this airport due to negligence
