Nice cathedral with amazing artitecture Worthy of a visit if in the area
Very peaceful. Went there for a prayer and someone was playing the organ; It sounded magnificent
Beautiful! Spent a long time studying Filippo Lippi's amazing frescos.
Gorgeous church with some unusual details, such as the outdoor pulpit going out to the square.
Ticket required to see Fra Lippi frescoes. Awesome museum. Holy Belt relic Impressive smaller (and older) Tuscan cathedral.
the cathedral is very nice and spacious but the rules are very strict I tried to do a picture and they threw me out of the place.
Lovely church, with a piazza with some good restaurants to rest your feet after your visit to the church.
Beautiful! Dark columns with radiant stained glass windows. So beautiful!!!

Beautiful city ce ter in Prato. We sat and ate pizza from a local place and watched the sunset. Unfortunately, we got to town too late to see the inside. Walk around, check out the local artist shops and people watch! Picturesque, meandering streets.
Nice castle with beautiful views of the city. Nice to be able to climb to the top and walk around. Entrance was free when visited. I would highly recommend a visit if in the area
Great views from the wall and free! We did find it hard to visit though... it's closed on Tuesday and closed from pretty much 12.15pm til 6pm. Also because of Covid there is only one group allowed up the wall at a time so leave yourself enough time
A good observation point, but don’t expect to see any exhibition inside the walls. You can actually walk all around and on the top of the castle. Entrance is free of charge.
Beautiful castle with great views. You can climb up it for free
Great view from the ramparts.
It's a nice local venue, but it doesn't offer much for a visiting tourist.
The Emperor's Castle is located in Prato in Piazza delle Carceri. It is an example of Frederick-era architecture, built by order of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, as part of the struggle for dominance in Tuscany between the empire and the papacy that characterized the decades around 1200. History and description edit The site of today's castle once housed the Alberti family's fort of Prato, which was almost completely razed to the ground in 1107 during the siege by Matilda of Canossa's troops. In its place, another palace, called "Palazzolo," was rebuilt to house the nuncios of Emperors Henry VI of Swabia and Otto IV of Brunswick (two towers remain, the ones without battlements, which until 1767-68 were about double their current height); The area surrounding the castle has always been strategic, so much so that documents dating back to 1035[2] attest to the presence of an older "palatium"; this building was the nucleus of the Castrum Prati, the village that arose above the palace, which also contained an ancient parish church (Santa Maria in Castello, which no longer exists). The construction commission was entrusted by Frederick II to Riccardo da Lentini, probably starting in 1240. The castle, originally tangent to the second circle of walls (12th century), was partially surrounded by a moat and connected to the Albertian prisons, from whose definition "prisons" the nearby Marian sanctuary took its name. It has eight towers and, like Castel del Monte, has various symbolic aspects inherent in both its structure and its portal. Once completed, it was intended to be used as an important garrison for the empire, testifying to the emperor's presence in his northern possessions. However, its construction was interrupted around 1250 due to the emperor's premature death, and the unfinished structure was subsequently used for many other purposes. During the 14th century, under Florentine rule, the castle was connected to the third ring of walls by a covered corridor called the "Corridore del Cassero" (meaning: castle corridor), or simply the Cassero. This allowed Florentine troops to safely enter the city from outside the walls using a protected passage. Over the centuries, several houses were built inside and around the structure. In the 1930s, under Fascist rule, all the houses were demolished, and the castle assumed its current appearance, consisting essentially of only the exterior walls. The simultaneous opening of Viale Piave also led to the demolition of much of the Cassero structure, of which two sections remain. Also interesting, behind the castle itself, are the remains of the hospital and the corresponding church of San Giovanni Gerosolimitano (or of the Knights of Malta), built outside the walls in the mid-12th century and currently abandoned, but which still preserves small and rare anthropomorphic traces in Romanesque terracotta.

Amazing historical pa lace and great art on display.
(Translated by Google) We were informed that we absolutely had to use the backpack locker to visit the museum AFTER purchasing the tickets (small backpacks, certainly not school bags). We offered to keep them in the front so as not to risk damaging the works (we're certainly not children and know how to manage an art exhibition visit), but we were rudely refused, insisting that we use the lockers. Fortunately for us, too, the card refused the transaction to complete the ticket purchase, an opportunity that the staff seized upon to be even more rude and impolite. I note now that the official website and Facebook page don't require backpacks as a "visit rule," because had we known this in advance, we would have prepared differently (and if we had been informed beforehand, we would have considered it accordingly). I don't think this was professional or honest behavior. If you're considering a visit, I recommend keeping in mind that the lockers they offer for storing personal belongings aren't checked. Also note that I've been there before and had a backpack, and on that occasion I wasn't even asked to carry it in front. Is this a rule applied depending on who's selling the tickets and/or how they feel? Very, very unfair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We were ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. We had pretty small bags, too. Anyway, we offered to just hold our backpacks in front of us (as is sufficient in other museums), but our request was rudely refused. We've been lucky our credit card refused the transaction a few seconds later, an event used by the museum staff to become even more rude. Such rules are not specified on their museum website and Facebook page, so we had no way of knowing that beforehand. Regardless, that was absolutely unprofessional. If you are considering to visit the place I recommend you to take into consideration these unwritten rules. On a final note, I distinctly remember visiting the musuem before without any similar rule being enforced. Molto molto scorretto. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have been ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. (Translated by Google) Perhaps the only place in Prato worth a visit. I was here on March 8, 2025, and the museum is truly beautiful and well-maintained. When I visited, I was the only one there, and I had the entire museum to myself. Next to many of the works, there was a QR code that, when scanned, opened a very interesting audio description. The museum appears to have been recently renovated, as it has new, modern equipment. The only things I didn't appreciate were that the panoramic terrace and the façade were under restoration, so I wasn't allowed to enjoy the view from there, and the exorbitant price of the ticket. It's absurd to charge such a high price for a museum. It's a shame, though, if you're in Prato, you must visit. For me, it was worth it, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Empty on a Sunday, interesting to see the different materials and 500yr old clothes. Lots of empty halls though, and you seem to have to walk through the museum and all the way back the same way to get out. Weird layout!
The Textile Museum in Prato, located in a restored historic mill, offers a fascinating look at centuries of textile history. Exhibits range from ancient fabrics to modern fashion, with well-preserved machinery and clear explanations. Friendly staff and a small shop add to the experience, making it a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in textiles or industrial heritage.
Beautiful space and interesting exhibition about Prato’s history in textile production which is still alive. Gorgeous old fabrics on display.
Interesting little museum that offers great insight into the history of textiles and fashion in Prato. Very helpful staff and a gift shop with unique products. Look forward to watching the museum grow over time.
Excellent museum. I learned a lot about the textile industry. We spent about 2 hours there. All the explanations appear in English.
From the permanent installation to the Balenciaga/Alaïa exhibition, this museum is one of the best curated fashion museums in the Tuscan region.
It’s a lovely museum that worth a visit. It’s neither too small nor too informative and sophisticated to understand. Though the route was not the best design, I’d still give a 5 star cuz I had a great time there.
One of the best museum experiences I had! But I'm also biased since I really love this industry. Museum is small so you don't get tired and can pay attention to everything.

It was my first ever visit at Centro Pecci, i was literally mind blowed. It is the second contemporary hub ever opened in Italy, careful it is not a gallery or a museum but it is much more. Please read online for more info. The general manager, Stefano, gave us a tour showing the different areas of the exhibition that has an insane in-depth study of the details from architecture, lights exposition to setting and last the outstanding selection of artists and works. The tour and the level of the presentation was far above any expectations, emotional and in the same time entertaining product of a very talented and knowledgeable GM. I will surely come back. It is a must see stop / designation for contemporary art enthusiast and collectors as myself. 10/10
One of the most unique Contemporary Art Museum in Italy.
Fantastic art gallery with a remarkable collection housed in an incredible building. Easy to catch the bus from Prato or Florence. Nice gallery shop as well. Staff welcoming.
I saw a great exhibition of Massimo Bartolini - Hagoromo. Definitely worth a visit.
Visited the museum on a saturday morning and it was good, I loved Marcon's rooms. But the bistro was the real thing, the guy with glasses was so friendly and made me the best cappuccino I had in Italy. And he told me that his sister lives in Poland as well! Even the sciacciatina was very good. Thank u!
I visited once with my friend. He is in jail now but still has memory !
The building itself is very impressive. Maybe I got there on a bad day but the exhibits were seriously dated, spectacularly academic and non visual. The content focused on a set of existentialist conceptual artists. The experience stuck me as though the museum could not afford to mount a real contemporary show & instead had pulled out notes and photos of artists and their work from their library.
This place is beautyfull, it looks like crossaint.

(Translated by Google) The Diocesan Museum of Prato, along with the Cathedral, form the city's most important artistic and cultural center. Inaugurated in 1967, it offers a fascinating tour centered around the harmonious Romanesque cloister. The rooms, divided chronologically and by area of interest, display paintings by major Florentine artists from the diocese's churches. There are also sculptures and goldsmith works, an archaeological area with artifacts displayed in display cases, and the Hall of the Girdle. The Cathedral also contains numerous works of art, notably the wooden Crucifix by Giovanni Pisano and several fresco cycles by Paolo Uccello and Filippo Lippi. The exterior is dominated by the pulpit, the work of Donatello, used for the display of the Holy Girdle. The façade is notable for its polychrome marble decoration and its 13th-century bell tower, embellished with elegant mullioned windows.
Excellent small collection in a beautiful late-12th century cloister.
(Translated by Google) The museum was visited with a single ticket that also included access to the cathedral chapels, where the frescoes by Fra Filippo Lippi stand out. Among the museum's most artistically splendid works, visitors were able to admire the dancing cherubs decorating the marble pulpit by Donatello and Michelozzo, a copy of which can be seen on the right side of the cathedral's façade. The antiquarium contains stone fragments, funerary monuments, and religious frescoes of great artistic interest and is architecturally enhanced by elegant cross vaults. The rooms that wind through the museum display 13th- and 14th-century paintings, which are striking for their originality and meaning. The 16th- and 17th-century rooms present visitors with a difficult choice between paintings to be observed carefully and those to be seen quickly. The Romanesque cloister is a precious component of the cathedral, even though it has been remodeled and limited to only one side. The fifteenth-century hall, the Cinta Hall, and the excavation area complete a fascinating artistic journey that enriches the mind and soul.

It should be experienced calmly, without rushing and explaining to the children which animals they are admiring, focusing on the details. If you try to get through it quickly you will be disappointed. There is also the reptile house with snakes, spiders and other bizarre animals saved by private individuals unable to take care of them. And as if time had stopped, there is the part with the stuffed animals, the same and perfectly preserved for over 30 years.

Is this all that Prato can give to the users of its beautiful library? Sin. (Translated by Google) Beautiful and ancient Franciscan church located in the heart of the historic center of Prato, a few steps from the most famous church of Santa Maria delle Carceri and the imposing Emperor's Castle. On 24 July 1228, eight days after the canonization of Francis of Assisi, the Municipality of Prato bought land for the friars minor, near the Prato "castrum" in the place called "l'Oliveto", so that they could build a church there and a convent. The first small church was built as early as 1233, but the construction of the current complex only began in 1281, due to events linked to the expansion of the city walls around the village of Santa Trinita. The church was then named after San Francesco d'Assisi... and is among the oldest churches in Prato. It is immediately striking for the dualism of the materials used; in fact, if for the scenographic facade the consolidated cladding of two-tone, white and green serpentine marble distributed in horizontal bands typical of the Tuscan Romanesque was adopted, the rest of the building (left bare of the cladding) shows a peculiarity of local record: it is the first church in history - in the Prato area - to be built entirely in bricks rather than stone. Also noteworthy is the monumental entrance portal, framed by thin and elegant cylindrical columns, surmounted by a powerful architrave, on which the coat of arms and two characters of the well-known Pugliesi family are sculpted. The lunette above, recently restored, depicting the Immaculate Madonna is the work of the painter Martino Benelli, created in the first half of the nineteenth century. The bell tower is also from almost the same period: designed by the Prato architect Antonio Bernini and built outside the body of the church between 1798 and 1802, to replace the original one which rested on the apse. The facade ends with the large triangular tympanum where a valuable thematic relief (in stucco) stands out: "The Stigmata of San Francesco" by Andrea della Robbia, dating back to around 1490, when he was already working on the internal decorations of the nearby church of Santa Maria delle Carceri .
