Katsurahama Beach, located in Kochi Prefecture, is a picturesque spot known for its wide sandy beach and pine-backed bay. The beach stretches between Cape Ryuzu and Cape Ryuo at the entrance to Urado Bay, offering stunning views of colorful beach gravel, pine groves, and the azure ocean.
Beautiful and well maintained beach with beautiful pebbles rather than sand. The area has a few things to walk around and see. Would recommend stopping in and enjoying the sea breeze here!
Jas L — Google review
Easy to get to and from the beach by bus about 1 and hour. Costing ¥800 from the station. Bus number S3 from the station or on route . A pleasant little place but I was expecting to go for a swim but swimming is not aloud. There are walks around and some history plus some souvenir shops and restaurants.
Andrew S — Google review
A beautiful beach but please note you cannot swim here! Visited on a hot & sunny day in May. Great to walk around & look at the attractions of the area & plenty food options too. Easily spent half a day here :)
Ellie M — Google review
Best experience ever. The beach is simply gorgeous. A must if you are in Kochi.
Corinna R — Google review
Nice beach, but not for swimming. I was surprised to read that on the board. Anyway, you can wash your feet after tracking, which I did.:)
Darko V — Google review
The sea was an incredibly deep blue, unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It reminded me of the classic “Japan Blue” color. Absolutely stunning!
Takashi H — Google review
I came here to see the commemorative statue of Sakamoto Ryoma and the museum dedicated to him. The beach is free and so is the statue. The beach itself is amazingly clean and you can see and hear the crashing waves clearly. There is also a short cut through the forest to reach the museum. If you are coming via My-U Bus and prefer walking down slopes than up, then you might want to drop at the museum first, visit it and make your way down.
Patrick T — Google review
Took the My-Yu bus bus there. The one day pass costs 1000yen and the beach is the last stop. Lots of visitors . Great to gaze at the Pacific ocean while walking on the beach. After that we went to have a view of Sakamoto Ryoma, rather majestic and authoritative. There are gift shops and snack shops to visit. If you are interested, you can also visit the aquarium.

Harimayabashi

Cultural landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Harimaya Bridge is a beautiful and historic bridge that stands next to a busy road. The setting is peaceful, with a crystal clear river on one side and the hustle and bustle of traffic on the other. If you go on the hour, you can listen to Yosakoi music while golden dancers come out to dance.
Romantic bridge for sure. Deep red bridge being polished as I was visiting
Gautier P — Google review
It is only the red bridge in the way toward the popular castle and park. Beautiful setting and Japanese style display for great photo opp.
Bill H — Google review
ppl surprised the red bridge is really small than expected. ANPANMAN stone sculpture can be found nearby the bridge.
ORISH — Google review
Stop by for a quick photo. Popular landmark
W. L — Google review
It's a nice iconic bridge. It's old if you will see the floor bridge but I believe they're taking good care of it coz it won't last like that prettily until today. Easy to visit coz it's in the center of the town. Accessible to everyone. And since I visited during spring, it has pretty flowers everywhere! It's so nice!
Grace V — Google review
A small cute red bridge near the shopping arcade. You’ll see a statute about the love story between a monk and a woman.
Melanie E — Google review
Harimayabashi is right nearby a hotel. It makes you ignoring easily that place. However, the water along the stream is clear enough and small stones wrapped by green sheet. Beautiful!
Fleetwood L — Google review
It's a small bridge that has historical importance to it. Also a popular meeting spot for the locals.

Sakamoto Ryoma Statue

Sights & Landmarks
Sculpture
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Sakamoto Ryoma Statue in Kochi Prefecture is a towering sculpture of the influential samurai from the 19th century. This historical figure holds great significance in Japan and has multiple statues throughout the province, with Katsurahama boasting the largest one. Shikoku is known for being home to this famous landmark, which represents an important period during the Edo era.
Katsurahama is renowned as a “moon-viewing paradise” (月見勝地, Tsukimi Shōchi), where the full moon casts its silvery glow upon the shimmering ocean, blending harmoniously with the soft, sweeping sands to create a scene of serene romance. This breathtaking coastal landscape has long been celebrated as “Tosa’s greatest scenic spot” (土佐第一名勝, Tosa Daiichi Meishō), captivating visitors with its timeless beauty. It is said that in his youth, Sakamoto Ryōma often strolled along this very shore, gazing out at the vast Pacific Ocean as he contemplated the future of Japan. Standing here, one can almost picture him, filled with ambition, looking beyond the horizon toward a new era. The waves of Katsurahama are awe-inspiring, rolling in with powerful surges that crash against the shore, revealing the untamed grandeur of the Pacific. The rhythmic roar of the waves seems to echo the turbulence of history, whispering tales of change and revolution. More than just a site for moonlit reverie, this place offers a profound encounter with the majesty of nature and the weight of history—a destination truly worth experiencing.
Trina S — Google review
During my visit, I had the opportunity to climb up and get a closer look at the Sakamoto Ryoma statue for only 100 yen. Although the climb was somewhat unstable, it was well worth it as it provided a fantastic view of the sea from the top. Overall, it was a great experience.
NNchan — Google review
This place has a wonderful scenery! If you plan to go there better if you go early . It has a free bus/taxi ride and an amazing beach.
Maneke N — Google review
On March 27, 2023, my wife and I drove here to see the Statue. Apart from its elevation, the Statue isn’t big. We were disappointed. Anyhow, I captured a cinematic moment.

The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum

Mentioned on
1 list
History museum
Museums
Nestled on a scenic hilltop in Kochi, Japan, the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum is a treasure trove dedicated to the life of one of Japan's most revered historical figures. This museum offers an immersive experience into the world of Sakamoto Ryoma, who played a pivotal role in dismantling the Tokugawa shogunate during the late Edo period.
The museum is located a bit far, about a 30 minute bus ride, from the kochi station. The bus arrives only one time every hour, so you'll have to check the bus schedule beforehand. The museum itself was spectacular. Even if I went as someone with 0 knowledge about Sakamoto Ryoma, I was able to understand what he did and how that was incredible. I would say the exhibition is entertaining yet understandable. I certainly understood that Ryoma san was important in the contribution of returning the political powers back to the Japanese Tennou and was an important guide to Japan modern political structures. The staff were also nice. I asked for a exchange in money for the upcoming bus ride as I ran out of 1000yen bills. They were so kind and gentle and we're willing to provide the service. It was overall a relaxing experience. The observation site at the top of the museum allowed us to see the Pacific Ocean and saw some whirls that we weren't able to see in Takamatsu. Spectacular view.
Yun-Jing T — Google review
Even though I am not fluent in Japanese, they have enough English sprinkled into the museum for English speakers to enjoy the museum and get the most important information. Not worth it to come on its own, but if you have the My-Yu pass, definitely come by! The roof has one of the best views in the area too
Brandon S — Google review
Sakamoto Ryoma was an important person in Japan history. There are exhibitions about the story and replicas of letters in the museum. We spent about 1 hour in this spot.
Ryanne C — Google review
A good compact sized museum that is dedicated to Sakamoto Ryoma a Shogun who played an important role in the Edo period. There are bits and pieces of English descriptions however it’s not really enough to completely immerse yourself in the history. It’ll take around 45mins-1hour to finish the viewing. Sadly the video demonstrations are in Japanese with Japanese subtitles.
Carmen C — Google review
Interesting Museum with history of Mr Sakamoto Ryoma - recently renovated with lots of cute cartoons to brighten up the short life of Mr Ryoma. Most exhibits in Japanese with English translation. Museum has a great view of the coast at the roof top - great for selfies. Get the Day Pass for MyBus - 50% discount for overseas visitors 🤣I would recommend it for any visitors to Kochi. U can take a short walk down the beach after the Museum visit. Great place to cool down n relax.
Anna C — Google review
This museum dedicated to Ryoma Sakamoto sits high looking over the Pacific Ocean. It has great interactive areas for all ages to learn about one of the most important people who helped shape modern Japan. A great space to spend time, easily accessible with elevators opening up every space from rooftop to basement. For those interested in learning more there is a library of resources.
Judith M — Google review
We had limited time but made the most of it. A modern display of historical material. Worth a visit.

Sakamoto Ryoma's Hometown Museum

Local history museum
Sights & Landmarks
Sakamoto Ryoma's Hometown Museum is a charming museum showcasing local history. It is housed in a traditional wooden structure and boasts a 360-degree theater with an intriguing 4D experience. While there is some English guidance available, most of the exhibits are presented in Japanese, so visitors should have some basic historical knowledge before visiting. The museum features two floors of displays, including many interactive and audio exhibits suitable for all ages.
It's not just about Ryoma but about the era in general. I get an understanding on the lives of the different classes of people living in Tosa during the Edo period and from there, maybe a glimpse into why Ryoma decided to do what he did. An excellent place to spend an hour or two.
Patrick T — Google review
A small museum about Sakamoto Ryoma. It is interesting because it includes information about his family, which is not often mentioned when you hear about this historical figures. All information is in Japanese only though.
T K — Google review
There is a free audio guide and storage service (hand carry luggages only) for foreign visitors. The 4D theatre inside the museum is quite interesting. Sadly, most of the illustrations are in Japanese only. Visitors should have some basic history knowledge before coming to this museum. It’s comics & book corner is lovely though.
Waha F — Google review
This museum is so cool! I love all the features! And it has English feature for foreign tourists too! Love it so much and very educational ^^
Momozono C — Google review
A few free parking spaces available. The 4 faced theatre is interest
Emmi L — Google review
The Sakamoto Ryoma's Hometown Museum was informative, and the presentations, while focused on Ryoma's life and experiences, were diverse in content and style. We made heavy use of the free English language audio tour, without which we would not have learned nearly as much.
Craig R — Google review
Lovely little museum with a gift shop with tons of funny Ryoma paraphernalia. There are two floors of exhibits and lots of animated/audio exhibits. Good for all ages but children will probably especially enjoy many of the exhibits. There seems to be an English guide but not much in the museum itself.

In Kochi City, you'll find numerous statues of Anpanman, the beloved character created by manga artist Takashi Yanase. The city proudly displays Anpanman-themed goods on trains, streetcars, and in stations. Visitors can take photos with the various Anpanman statues scattered throughout the city. I am shocked that people still go to watch the dolphin shows. It is not right to take these intelligent, kind and beautiful creatures from where they belong and put them in small tanks, starve them so they would do the tricks and enterentain the public. I've seen how these guys clean the tanks, and they empty them completely to clean them while the dolphins are gasping! This is not right on so many levels! Please do not buy the tickets to the dolphins' shows!
Ilona B — Google review
Dolphins are truly gentle creatures. They are sentient social animals with consciousness probably like ours. How happy would they be living in captivity? Dolphins in aquarium is like a person in prison! 😕😕😕
Nivendhini S — Google review
The aquarium is small and a little bit dirty. The place does not have air conditioning. Also 1200¥ entrance fee for such a small aquarium is too much.

Small aquarium. There is no English guide. But it’s worth to visit their kind employees. I’ll miss kenta gun.

Statue of Yamauchi Kazutoyo

(Translated by Google) Although he has a dignified appearance, he is said to have actually had a chubby body. It is said in the ``Biography of Prince Kazutoyo'' that he was overweight and had slightly red eyes. There is a story that the people of the territory were forbidden to eat bonito as sashimi out of concern for food poisoning, but in response, the people of the territory started grilling only the surface of the bonito and eating it saying, ``This is not sashimi.'' This is said to be the origin of bonito tataki, and it may be thanks to Kazutoyo Yamauchi that you can now enjoy delicious tataki at Hirome Market. He later famously told his mother, ``For our family, it's just a luxurious kimono, but for that poor woman, it was an irreplaceable kimono that could save her life and that of her baby.'' This incident is said to have sparked his lifelong commitment to people's rights. Afterwards, he devoted himself to poverty relief and became the founder of the Liberal Party, which is the origin of today's Liberal Democratic Party. What is surprising is that he has four wives and three concubines. I can't even imagine what the family environment was like. There are countless anecdotes about Taisuke Itagaki, and in recent years it has been discovered that the Louis Vuitton trunk he purchased while touring France in 1883 is the oldest Vuitton product in existence in Japan. This trunk is currently stored at the Freedom and People's Rights Memorial Museum in Kochi City.

Kochi Castle Museum of History

Local history museum

History Museums
The Kochi Castle Museum of History is a modern building that offers a glimpse into the regional history, featuring exhibitions on the history of Kochi Castle and the city. Visitors can enjoy Wi-Fi access, a cafe with stunning views of the castle, and hands-on events for both parents and children. The museum also provides an observation deck for panoramic views of the castle towers and insights into the rule of the Tosa Clan during Japan's Edo period.
It's a small museum, but definitely worth it. A combination ticket for the museum and castle was less than $5. The building looks great and there is a great view from the 3rd floor. They have free post cards which was cool. I am glad I went there first before Kochi Castle.
Robert F — Google review
Has wide of information about the Kochi Castle's history. Also a few artifacts of the person that ruled the area.
Rasseru S — Google review
500 💹 entrance fee gets you access to all 3 floors of the museum. There's a hands on gallery where you can experience dressing up in samurai helmet and robes, and also try your hand at creating a portrait by layering 5 different stamps. Meant for kids, but still had fun nonetheless. The audio guide is free and provides a detailed explanation of the various artifacts in the gallery. Information is contextualized for non-Japanese visitors and it was helpful to learn about Kochi's history.
YJ — Google review
This rating is based on a non-Japanese visitor’s oerspective. I would give the building that houses this museum 4 stars due to its beautiful design which incorporates local materials (wood in particular) and motifs throughout - though this could be more clearly explained. The exhibits are mostly artifacts from the Yamanouchi clan who occupied neighboring Kochi Castle from the early 17th century. There are many important historical documents on display, the significance of which is unfortunately lost on the casual visitor. There are some visually appealing artifacts - the samurai helmets based upon animal forms are particularly - on display, but the exhibition is probably best suited to those with a strong interest in Japanese history. I recommend viewing the videos available BEFORE going around the exhibits and to use foreign language the audio guide available (¥1000 deposit). Admission to the 1st and 2nd floors is free - the museum shop has some nice stuff in it, but the 2f cafe is kind of “old school”. The view of the castle from the 3rd floor gallery (admission free required) is nice, but it’s difficult to avoid reflection from the glass windows and is not that much better than the view from the castle steps.
Paul W — Google review
Beautiful, state-of-the-arts museum. You can enjoy Sakamoto Ryoma latte art in the cafe on the second floor while taking in the view of the castle. The museum itself has lots of interesting cultural and military artifacts. There is some English though I wish there were more. Many of the captions are addressed to child audiences though, so if you can read some Japanese you will be able to follow along well enough. The museum also offers some nicely done history videos, many of which have English subtitles. I saw the staff disinfecting surfaces and they take your temperature when you enter so you can enter without worrying too much about the coronavirus.
Nat F — Google review
Nice, brand new museum. Audio guide and some explanations in English, which is most appreciated. However, the collection is pretty small for the fee. Please note that combined tickets museum/castle are available at the museum. When we visited, only the permanent collection consisting mainly of maps and books/scrolls were on display. The special exhibition was closed so I can't comment on this.
François M — Google review
I was a little bit disappointed by the museum as it's a spacious building, but the exhibits are only on the 3rd floor. What was on display was very good quality, but considering the number of artefacts in they say are in the museums collection I was hoping to see more on display.
Ali L — Google review
It's a small museum, but very nice to see the history. You can also make a cool postcard stamp to remember your visit.

Izakaya restaurant
Fisherman cuisine Myojinmaru is a popular dining spot that offers a fulfilling experience. Many visitors have enjoyed the quality of the dishes and the excellent service provided. Booking in advance is recommended due to its popularity, but it's definitely worth it. The staff are not only friendly but also handsome, which adds to the overall experience. The bonito dishes are particularly noteworthy and exceed expectations. Additionally, guests have been pleasantly surprised by unique offerings such as tomato tempura.
Excellent food! Definitely one of the best spots in town.

We visited Fisherman Cuisine Myojinmaru 明神丸 本店 to try the region’s specialty, straw-smoked bonito, and it did not disappoint! The smoky flavour added a unique and delicious twist to the fresh bonito, making it the star of the night. The restaurant is very busy, and we waited around 30 minutes to be called in as we did not have a reservation. Be sure to write your name down on the queue list upon arrival. We tried a few other dishes as well, but the straw-smoked bonito truly stole the show. Overall, a great dining experience with flavourful food. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Yasube

$$$$cheap
Ramen restaurant
Izakaya restaurant
Yasube is a popular restaurant in Kochi, known for its long waiting times during peak hours. The gyoza is a standout dish with an incredibly crispy and flavorful shell, while the oden and ramen are also quite tasty. The restaurant's simple menu includes ramen, fried dumplings, and oden, all of which are highly recommended. Visitors can expect to find red lanterns and chefs in uniform in this open garage-like space.
A local road street. Their opening time is from 1900 to 0300 next morning. Their menu is very simple with ramen, fried dumplings, and oden, these three items. These 3 are must try. If you travel alone, I hope you had a big stomach, if not, then will recommend you try by the priority of fried dumplings, ramen, and then oden. If you travel with friends, then congratulations just order 1 or more of each.
Emily Y — Google review
I went on a weeknight at 7:15pm, not many people waiting. I ordered ramen, gyoza and a beer for 1800 yen. The food were delicious and vibe was good for a 台屋。 It is fine for a quick meal but not worth for waiting for a long time.
Kenneth T — Google review
A super popular spot with a constant stream of customers — people come here more for the atmosphere than the food. The signature gyoza (7 pieces) aren’t wrapped particularly well, and while they’re pan-fried, the thin skin and lack of filling make them feel almost like eating air. The ramen is decent but nothing special. The outdoor izakaya vibe is lively and enjoyable, though it can get quite hot, and there’s usually a line.
W. L — Google review
One of the best, if not the best Gyoza I have ever eaten. A busy open air stall that opens till late. Must try.
KK T — Google review
During the Golden Week holiday, this restaurant was extremely popular, resulting in long waiting times. When I first arrived at 9 PM, the queue was so lengthy that I decided to return the next day before opening time. However, even when I arrived at 6:40 PM, the line was already quite long. Despite the wait, I found the gyoza to be exceptional, with an incredibly crispy, thin shell and delicious flavor. The oden and ramen were decent taste. The staff provided excellent service, making my dining experience even more enjoyable. Given the chance, I would happily return to this restaurant.

Best dumplings we have ever had, and we’ve eaten our fair share of dumps. We had two plate our first night and came back two night late and ordered 4 plates since it’s our last night in Kochi.
Eric Z — Google review
I was walking and exploring the streets near my hotel because it’s my last night in Kochi and I heard noises and saw red lanterns and chefs in uniform in a space that looks like an open garage. So happy I found this place. The gyoza was perfectly cooked. The gyoza size was also the perfect bite for me. I also had the chashu ramen but it was nothing special. But I was hungry and craving for something warm with soup, so my tummy was very satisfied. I love the lively atmosphere, the sound was like a big family bustling about the kitchen, with the chefs shouting orders and greeting guests. The clanking of pans and pots and the sound of frying, were a delight. I will definitely have some gyoza when I get assigned to Kochi for work again (hopefully).

Habotan

Japanese restaurant
Habotan is a traditional Japanese pub in Kochi that offers a genuine local experience. The tavern serves an array of deep-fried seafood and sashimi, perfect for sharing among friends. Pair these delectable dishes with some local sake for an authentic culinary adventure. Visitors recommend trying the Tosamaki and Fried Utubo for a true taste of the region.
I visited there before 12pm but there were already many people drinking. The building looked like an old Japanese style house, and there were counter seats and table seats. Both the customers and staff were friendly and made me feel comfortable. There were so many fish and meat dishes made with local ingredients that I had a hard time deciding which one to order. I don’t know how expensive it was because a guy next to me paid for my drinks and food. I definitely want to visit again.

Found this local Izakaya while wondering around the area. Menu is all in Japanese but Google Lens is my best friend. Delishious food at reasonable prices and cool atmosphere. We had the tuna kamatoro (must try), tuna bowl set and fried seafood.

I don't understand the hype about this place. The dishes ranged from mediocre to very disappointing. The service was very slow, and forgot a part of our order. Ric W — Google review
Mr A was slightly apprehensive but persuaded him to give another local market a go! Atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were very helpful. Although not on show, when you get to the counter they bring out an English translation of the menu. WS fun watching behind the counter and also the automatic lager dispensers! Recommend you get there early for lunch - we arrived around 11am - one area was really full but we managed to get seats in another. Another tip - if you’re lucky enough to find seat (or if you’re early and it looks like seats won’t be a problem) ensure you put a hat or something on the table place where you plan to sit - thus worked a treat and was what locals were doing. We went for the fried Eels, fried seaweed and of course the legendary Seared Bonito (fish of Mackerel and Tuna family). It was yummy, Mr A even said do too! 😁🙌
Zoe A — Google review
We went at dinner time and it was very crowded and took us a while to get a table. Other than that, the seared bonito is delicious and the smokiness paired with salt elevates the taste. Imoten is tasty too.
Wei L — Google review
Incredible katsuo!! They braise the meat right in front of you, which is very fun to watch. The location is fun, at the very center of the busy market. I got the sauce and salt set, which lets you try both flavors. Both the sauce and salt were delicious, but I preferred the salt. After you're done eating, just leave the trays and dishes at the table and the staff will clear them away.

We came for dinner following google recommendation and found this to be a lovely restaurant filled with locals on a Friday night. The quality of the food was fantastic, ordering with limited knowledge of Japanese was a challenge but the waitress was as helpful as she could be! I highly recommend the tuna sushi roll (best I’ve had on the entire trip) and pick something from the specials menu! We went in blind and ended up with a local delicacy which made the meal something to remember. A little pricier than other places we’ve been to but great if you know what you’re picking as the quality is there.

Tosa Tataki Dojo

Japanese regional restaurant
Udon noodle restaurant
Tosa Tataki Dojo is a lively and popular eatery where visitors can grill their own bonito fish over a straw-fueled flame. The restaurant offers a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the traditional method of searing their own fish, known as Warayaki Taiken Ryoma Zen. Upon arrival at the ground-floor souvenir shop, guests can request this experience and will be guided upstairs to participate in the cooking process.
I decided to come here because of the good review, thinking it was simply fresh katsuo-tataki. What added to this unique experience was being handed our own cut of katsuo and searing it ourselves over an open flame. That was a wonderful experience. The local goods & souvenir shop is also interesting.

We arrived in Kochi by cruise and was recommended to try the Katsuo Tataki, and was not disappointed. It was a fun experience to cook the fish over the open fire, (well directed by the chef there). And the taste was amazing, the searing process really bringing a great dimension to the flavour. They catered well for my kids, which has been a consistent plus in our time in Japan.

Make your bonito seared on fire, with some help by the staff, bonito plate only or with rice and miso soup combo. It was really good! Fresh and soft. Garnish with onions and garlic went well but best taste simply with a pinch of salt.
Zara K — Google review
This was so cool, get to sear your own katsuo here. You get a big block, they tell you what to do. There's a board on the wall that has English and the directions to you are pretty minimal (hold it here, turn it over, etc) and pretty easy to understand by hand movements so you don't have to know Japanese. Then they serve it with garnishes, I opted for garnishes only and it came to under $9 which is an incredible bargain. The only knock on this place is there is no direct bus or train here so you'll have to take a taxi or walk a bit to a bus stop.

市場寿し 魚屋

Seafood restaurant
The chef here is amazing, he's extremely skilled and fast at preparing all the fresh dishes. And if you order the local specialty of katsuo tataki, he'll take a fresh piece of katsuo and run out to give it that quick finish on the grill. He's doing it so often, you can easily watch him before entering or after leaving, he'll quickly lit some straw on fire and give it a quick gril in the open flame. All the staff is very attentive and friendly. But no English as far as I could tell and the menu was a bit (too) hard to understand with my limited Japanese. Luckily all the other patrons had fantastic taste and sitting at the counter I could easily have pointed at various delicious dishes and just asked for the same. Snails (in shell) as the table cover appetizer, though. So many fantastic items on the menu and they go with snails, eww.

I went there with 7 friends and they had room for everyone and we ordered so many things in the menu everything was delicious. We loved the fish and vegetables tempura and the fermented whale the most. Staff was friendly and we parked in a paid park nearby.

(Translated by Google) [Update] I received a response from the owner, so I'll return within a year to see how things have improved. This was my first visit during a trip to Kochi. I made an online reservation in advance, but was disappointed to be seated at the counter closest to the entrance. A customer without a reservation arrived later and was seated at the back. It was all a bit strange. They forgot the garlic on my bonito tataki. Isn't garlic supposed to be salt? They should have mentioned it. The other dishes were delicious, but I'm not sure if this restaurant is worth recommending enough. And on the slightly dirty counter in front of me, the chef with his permed hair had left his personal belongings (smartphone, protein shakes) lying around. He was picking baguettes out of a container next to them, so I decided not to order the sake kasu. I got a first-time coupon, which was a good deal, but it didn't suit the restaurant's appearance or the brand name, so it would be better if they just made it into a pub.

(Translated by Google) On the second night of my first trip to Kochi, I decided to have dinner at Tosa Gohan Suigeitei, a restaurant I'd been interested in after researching it in my guidebook and on Google Maps. Hoping to try something a little different than the standard Tosa cuisine like seared bonito and fried moray eel, I headed there with high expectations. I arrived a little earlier than my reservation, but was warmly welcomed and entered the restaurant. The restaurant had a laid-back, Japanese-style atmosphere, but when I looked at the menu on a tablet at the table and saw the extensive selection, I knew I'd found it! First, I started with a salad made with plenty of fresh Kochi vegetables. Next, I had fried eggplant with yuzu ponzu sauce and then the irresistibly crispy fried whale. Each dish was carefully prepared, allowing the flavors of the ingredients to shine through. The highlight of the meal was the Tosa Akaushi sake stew. The moment I put it in my mouth, the melting softness and refined aroma of sake spread throughout my mouth, enveloping my tongue with its rich flavor. To be honest, I didn't expect to be able to enjoy food of this quality for less than 2,000 yen, and I was simply blown away by its deliciousness. Even at high-end Western restaurants, it would be difficult to find a stew of this caliber for this price. Afterwards, I savored the plumply grilled yellowtail teriyaki and finished with a refreshing yuzu sorbet for dessert. From start to finish, my meal at Suigeitei was the best experience, far exceeding my expectations. I feel like I've discovered a new charm in Kochi. If you're looking for delicious food that's a little different from the norm in Kochi, I highly recommend Tosa Gohan Suigeitei.

Airport
International airport
Visitor Centers
Hiroshima Airport is a convenient hub for domestic and some international flights to Asia. The airport offers various amenities such as the Foo chocolate factory on the third floor, which produces high-quality chocolate and vegan treats. Visitors can also enjoy plane watching from the viewing platform for a small fee. While there is no direct train connection to the city, a regular and comfortable limousine bus service is available. The airport features restaurants, cafes, shops, and airline services across its three levels.
This is my favourite airport in Japan because it's quiet and not crowded. No 8000 mile walk between terminals like Haneda. Just 1 terminal, easy. Couple of eateries, souvenir shops, smoking rooms and an upstairs observation deck. Some old ladies were up there drinking beers?
Peter S — Google review
Small but does the work! We arrived by bus and it wasn’t a hustle. There’s few areas inside the airport to buy food or snacks and the prices were reasonable. Document control was fast;there’s details of what you can bring in apart from the water and there’s babysits to carry kids around. Comfortable airport chairs(could be cleaner) and Fancy toilet doors at least for the females .

Its an ok small airport. As many people say, it is very far from Hiroshima city, but there are many bus options that run almost all day, there are no local trains options anywhere close. There is now a rental car option nearby if you want to drive a car. All the restaurant options are on the outside of security so eat before you screen. There are good gift shops and displays to look at here. Have flown in/out of here for many years and its always quick service.
Neil B — Google review
Small airport but user friendly. There is free space for you to have food and wait for the bus. There are several bus routes to Hiroshima and other places. There is a convenient store.
Michael H — Google review
If I revisit the Chugoku region, I would choose KIX or FUK instead. First, the location is remote. No railways to connect. Only buses and they mainly go to JR Hiroshima and Hondori. That means u mean long waiting time or no option for other places. Instructions for public transport are not clear. Second, not many food or shops. Only a few food stores and shops. Better buy some food from convenience store. Last, the ground crew was not professional. My luggage was damaged and the crew directly gave me a sheet of paper. She demanded me to sign without informing me of the T&C. She kept demanding me to sign under the situation which I did not understand or agree to the T&C. And the T&C was actually a disclaimer. I thought she was trying to do fewer jobs and take on more responsibilities. Moreover, the crew did not confirm the luggage with us. She mixed up the name of the luggage with my partner's without any communication. The only thing good is not many routes there. It is a small airport so u can go through customs without a long queue. I would rather buy a JR pass and choose FUK or KIX than choose HIJ.

The tax free 白い恋人 ! I bought five 54 pieces packages from Hiroshima airport! Loved it ! The best airport ever!

The airport is small compared to Tokyo or Kyoto since i think not many tourists explore Hiroshima or even if they do they take the bullet train. Also the airport is very far away from Hiroshima. The airport is clean and has limited options for food and coffee, but what ever they are good. The staff working there are helpful and sweet.

Hiroshima Airport is pretty far from Hiroshima City which will take about 50 - 60 mins by a bus. It would be great if I can get Hiroshima City from the airport less than 30 min.

Kōchi Airport

Airport
Sights & Landmarks
Kōchi Airport, also known as Kōchi Ryoma Airport, is named after the samurai revolutionary Ryoma Sakamoto. It offers flights to and from major Japanese airports such as Haneda, Narita, Komaki, Chubu Centrair International, Osaka International, Kobe and Fukuoka.
Pretty nice domestic flight-only airport. There's not much enough to see in the airport terminal except for the extensive souvenir shops and a few tataki restaurants. The waving gallery on the rooftop of the terminal building, like most Japanese airports, is very pleasant and surprisingly spacious, although the airport itself doesn't see that many flights. The airport bus to downtown Kochi is located at the first floor, just outside the airport terminal. I think given the proximity of the airport to the nearest rail lines (Gomen-Nahari line and the Tosaden streetcar - the latter ended short at neighborhood of Gomen), it could've been better if one of these was extended to serve the airport, giving affordable and more seamless connection to the rest of the city, and even far afield throughout other parts of the prefecture. FYI, if you are fond of unconventional souvenirs, you can find cute Tataki Pillow that is sold at the airside after the security screening.

空港管制官,Air Traffic Control(ATC) tower staff is sooooo nice,so kind, very cheerful, professional and clear to understand. especially for private jet pilots or private helicopter pilots, we often experience difficulty to repeat ATC phrase because of too fast speaking w uncleared voice. unlike other airports' ATC, Kouchi Airport ATC is the best. as for the airport terminal, not so many shops or res though, easy to walk around.

There is a sign on the piller,, but I did not see it. The desk clerk was great and directed me to the check-in counter.

It's not as lively as other international airports with malls and all that, but Kochi Ryoma Airport serves its purpose. It has enough restaurants and omiyage stores, many seats available to rest on, and of course clean and comfortable automatic bathrooms. Also, there are displays for Kochi's popular places where you can take photos and make you feel like you've already toured the place.

Small, mostly domestic airport serving south west Shikoku Island. Most of the flights are in and out Tokyo and Osaka, with a few others to places such as Nagoya. Good thing is that don't need to allow very much time to get from curbside to gate.
Timothy R — Google review
Small airport in Kochi City. You can access the city from a bus right outside the airport.
Nikki A — Google review
Usually not too busy. It is very near to the Faculty of Agriculture and Marine Science of Kochi University, about 5 minutes by walk. It will take about 30 minutes to reach in the Kochi city from here. Bus is available to go Kochi city and it costs about 700 yen. There are not any convenient store or super shop available at least 5 km around the airport. Please buy your necesssy snacks or drinks from the airport. There are no international flights from here. Flights in all prefectures of Japan is available, it is quite difficult to contact by English.

Matsuyama Airport

Airport
International airport
Matsuyama Airport (MYJ) is a small yet efficient domestic airport located in Ehime prefecture, Japan. Despite its size, the airport offers a pleasant experience with smooth check-in, security, and boarding processes. The shops and restaurants are fairly priced without extra airport surcharges commonly found elsewhere. While some eateries may open later than desired, there are options like McDonald's available for early travelers.
This is a simple and concise airport. I visited him using the train and bus that stopped right in front of the airport entrance. It's not too big so the check-in process and entering the boarding gate is very fast😄

Amazing airport, easy to find and have shops open at 6:10am. With friendly staff who speak English . Really happy with the service

Very efficient airport, I was rushing to catch the airport bus that was scheduled to depart within 10 minutes of arrival. After deplaning, my luggage was already waiting for me at the carousel and I got to catch the bus. Very impressive.

Matsuyama airpor is very nice. Very comfortable and welcoming. 2nd floor has gachapon and the Information center was very helpful. Bus stops right infront of the station, so outside the door is where you can get on the bus right away. Bus to JR station is 490y.

Quite big airport in Shikoku. Observation deck and lounges are located on the third floor. Information is located on the ground floor but the receptionist elderly lady was rude and lack of information regarding the airport.
Sandy J — Google review
It’s a very nice airport. Heck, it’s a thousand times better than the airport at where I’m from but most restaurants in terminal 2 (im not sure, but it’s the one with the pouring orange juice onto several cups statue) opens at 9 am. Its the only reason I’m giving 4 stars. There are flights before 9 am. Some people go there hungry and can’t eat meals unless they brought their own, miraculously find a restaurant open, or go to a different terminal. There is a Mcdonald’s that is open though. But if you don’t like burgers, then there’s no point. They only serve burgers.

There’s a deck where you could enjoy the view of the planes taking off and landing. There’s a nice orange juice place just outside the arrival area called, Orange Bar. The airport was really nice.

Small, clean airport with helpful staff. But few services, shops, etc. I use this airport frequently, but immigration control is sometimes carried out with too much zeal compared to other Japanese airports.

Takamatsu Airport

Airport
Regional airport
Takamatsu Airport offers convenient transportation options, including a limousine bus that takes approximately 40 minutes to reach Kawaramachi Station. From there, travelers can access the Kotoden Line to Hanazono Station. The airport also provides free private parking for guests. Nearby attractions include the ruins of Takamatsu Castle and Kagawas Prefectural Museum, as well as the beautiful Ritsurin Koen garden, just a short train ride away.
Small local restaurant but many things you can enjoy. We enjoyed eating udons from two different restaurants (one on the first floor and the other is on the second floor). Both udon restaurants provide different styles and I liked both of them. Also gift shops have lots of udon items, yadon character items, and local stuff. We found lemon cakes are so tasty and olive soda was interesting but a must try item. The check in counters are located on the first floor and security check lines are on the second floor. There are small duty free shops and vending machines after the security check.
Y B — Google review
It's a small airport but it's super easy to navigate. The Airport Limousine (shuttles for getting into town centre) is just a few steps outside the sliding door, which make it even more convenient. Baggage belt was fast, custom straightforward. There is also a Metro but need to walk further down.
Ken I — Google review
My partner and I often use this airport when we visit family. It’s convenients enough - not too big to navigate and get lost in and not too small either so it accommodates just the right number of shops for souvenirs and restaurants for meals before/after a flight. There are international flights as well, but to a couple of limited countries and cities. There’s a very simple credit card lounge, but unfortunately no lounges operated by Japan’s 2 biggest carriers. The airport is probably most famous for the faucets where you can get dashi (soup stock) for udon. Try it!
ARBN — Google review
A relative small airport. Few shops between domestic and international departure floor; one duty free shop and one gate inside the international terminal.
W. L — Google review
a small but has-it-all airport. my only complaint is it’s such an important airport for setouchi art triennial goers but they don’t have the JR tkt station here. so inconvenient that you NEED to go to okayama. you’ll also need to take a bus to reach the train system. it’s only bus or taxi here.
Beergal H — Google review
This airport was as small as expected. It mainly served domestic flights, plus a few international flights. Therefore, the terminal was not so busy all the time. When I arrived there by plane, it took about an hour for the customs clearance. At that time, the number of passengers from the plane was about 180. Two counters were operating, and only one or two officers could speak some English. Airplanes could park by the terminal and connected by a covered footbridge. Luggage was not damaged, which sounded good. There were several eateries and souvenir shops. Toilets were clean. Since udon was made in this province, I chose to eat in one noodle shop on the second floor. The quality was fine. But beware of the business hours because the lunch serving time was finished early. The staff in the souvenir shops were friendly. There were car rental representatives on duty in their respective counter, who led their customers to the shuttle van because all car rental companies were located in the surrounding area. A theme park was built adjacent to the airport.
Joseph C — Google review
*This is a review for the domestic terminal only* Takamatsu is a compact airport. 2 floors and only a few shops. I used the domestic terminal and I wasn’t especially impressed with the organization or facilities available. Compared with other small sized airports in Japan it seems a little dated and poorly maintained. The security checked was very disorganized and it seemed that the staff were a little overwhelmed on a busy Friday afternoon (JAL, ANA and Jet Star all had flights leaving). There were many people standing as there clearly isn’t enough seating for the volume of passengers. Finally, once you are airside there are only 2 small kiosks for food, drink and souvenirs. So make sure the eat, drink and shop before heading through security.
Rich L — Google review
Good rural airport. 40 mins to/from the city center. Good restaurants and shops and 1 modern cafe inside. It is a pity not to have an airline lounge, though.
