Market
Hirome Market is a vibrant indoor marketplace located next to Kochi Castle, offering a bustling atmosphere with about 65 street stall-style restaurants, fresh fish and meat shops, knickknack stores, and clothing boutiques. Visitors can indulge in local cuisine as well as international flavors while enjoying casual meals at the available tables. The market also features a bar area serving drinks and pub food. Additionally, it's an ideal spot for beer, sake, and extremely fresh sushi day or night.
An expectional food court with a emphasis on Kochi delicacies such as seared bonito (over a straw hay fire), local fruit and other Japanese classics. Everything we had was delicious across the 5 stalls we went to, prices are very good, although it is a good idea to check different stalls for prices. Very strongly recommend. It is walking distance from Kochi Castle, so we stopped here after the castle for lunch. There is ample seating inside and a few clothing and snack shops and stalls of other cuisines as well.

I had the most memorable experience at this local market, thanks to my friend who brought me here. It’s the kind of place you’d probably miss if you weren’t with someone who knows the area—but once you're in, it feels like stepping into the heart of the community. The market was alive with color, scent, and energy. From the friendly vendors to the vibrant stalls selling everything from handmade goods to seasonal produce, it was a real cultural treat. The highlight for me was trying the regional specialty foods. My friend guided me through what to try, and I got to taste some incredible dishes I probably wouldn’t have discovered on my own. The flavors were so rich and unique—clearly made with local ingredients and a lot of love. It was the kind of food experience that makes you feel deeply connected to a place. Whether you're a foodie, a traveler looking for an authentic experience, or just someone who enjoys soaking in the atmosphere of local life, I can't recommend this market enough. It’s not just about shopping—it’s a sensory journey that stays with you long after you leave.
Niki S — Google review
Many car parking lot around the market. A lot of seats are available inside the market with the air conditioning, you can buy anything you like, share and enjoy fresh sashimi, katsuo tataki, etc.
Badtzmaru C — Google review
The main shop that sells the bonito fish with rice and bonito sushi was delicious. But this market during weekend is packed with people hard to get a seat. Its frustrating when some local japanese seems racist and only offer their seat to their own people. But thankfully towards the end there was a helpful japanese lady that saw us holding the tray helplessly for almost 20mins and she came to us and ask us to her seat as she is leaving. In short, this market has variety of food but amount of crowd during weekend and certain racist japanese kills of the mood. Do go there during weekdays for better experience.
Catherine H — Google review
Many shops inside, we were there around 6pm, many locals and tourist too. Inside don’t allow bringing food or drinks from the outside. You have to find a table first and then you can buy from different shops. We saw many tables bought the grill katsuo no tataki. It’s grilled on the outside and raw in the inside. So we bought one to tried. Usually my husband is a fan of all fish but here he say it’s ok only 😯. Many sushi choices and they have beer too. I tried their fried chicken but it was cold and abit hard. I think familymart even taste better. 🫣 But it was a great experience if you like this kind of vibe. Oh , they have a parking of their own because I think they have a sign saying if you spend an account then you can get free parking.
Shelley L — Google review
Hirome Market in Kochi is a lively and vibrant spot with an amazing variety of fresh food. The sashimi is incredibly fresh with many options to choose from. You’ll also find tasty fried chicken and beef, perfect with a cold beer or some smooth sake. The atmosphere is casual, friendly, and full of energy—great for solo travelers or groups looking to experience local flavors in a fun setting. Highly recommended for food lovers!

History Museums
The Kochi Castle Museum of History is a modern building that offers a glimpse into the regional history, featuring exhibitions on the history of Kochi Castle and the city. Visitors can enjoy Wi-Fi access, a cafe with stunning views of the castle, and hands-on events for both parents and children. The museum also provides an observation deck for panoramic views of the castle towers and insights into the rule of the Tosa Clan during Japan's Edo period.
It's a small museum, but definitely worth it. A combination ticket for the museum and castle was less than $5. The building looks great and there is a great view from the 3rd floor. They have free post cards which was cool. I am glad I went there first before Kochi Castle.
Robert F — Google review
Has wide of information about the Kochi Castle's history. Also a few artifacts of the person that ruled the area.
Rasseru S — Google review
500 💹 entrance fee gets you access to all 3 floors of the museum. There's a hands on gallery where you can experience dressing up in samurai helmet and robes, and also try your hand at creating a portrait by layering 5 different stamps. Meant for kids, but still had fun nonetheless. The audio guide is free and provides a detailed explanation of the various artifacts in the gallery. Information is contextualized for non-Japanese visitors and it was helpful to learn about Kochi's history.
YJ — Google review
This rating is based on a non-Japanese visitor’s oerspective. I would give the building that houses this museum 4 stars due to its beautiful design which incorporates local materials (wood in particular) and motifs throughout - though this could be more clearly explained. The exhibits are mostly artifacts from the Yamanouchi clan who occupied neighboring Kochi Castle from the early 17th century. There are many important historical documents on display, the significance of which is unfortunately lost on the casual visitor. There are some visually appealing artifacts - the samurai helmets based upon animal forms are particularly - on display, but the exhibition is probably best suited to those with a strong interest in Japanese history. I recommend viewing the videos available BEFORE going around the exhibits and to use foreign language the audio guide available (¥1000 deposit). Admission to the 1st and 2nd floors is free - the museum shop has some nice stuff in it, but the 2f cafe is kind of “old school”. The view of the castle from the 3rd floor gallery (admission free required) is nice, but it’s difficult to avoid reflection from the glass windows and is not that much better than the view from the castle steps.
Paul W — Google review
Beautiful, state-of-the-arts museum. You can enjoy Sakamoto Ryoma latte art in the cafe on the second floor while taking in the view of the castle. The museum itself has lots of interesting cultural and military artifacts. There is some English though I wish there were more. Many of the captions are addressed to child audiences though, so if you can read some Japanese you will be able to follow along well enough. The museum also offers some nicely done history videos, many of which have English subtitles. I saw the staff disinfecting surfaces and they take your temperature when you enter so you can enter without worrying too much about the coronavirus.
Nat F — Google review
Nice, brand new museum. Audio guide and some explanations in English, which is most appreciated. However, the collection is pretty small for the fee. Please note that combined tickets museum/castle are available at the museum. When we visited, only the permanent collection consisting mainly of maps and books/scrolls were on display. The special exhibition was closed so I can't comment on this.
François M — Google review
I was a little bit disappointed by the museum as it's a spacious building, but the exhibits are only on the 3rd floor. What was on display was very good quality, but considering the number of artefacts in they say are in the museums collection I was hoping to see more on display.
Ali L — Google review
It's a small museum, but very nice to see the history. You can also make a cool postcard stamp to remember your visit.

Kochi Castle, originally built in 1603 by Yamauchi Kazutoyo, is a historic landmark that has withstood natural disasters and wars over its 400-year history. The castle's surviving keep is one of only 12 wooden keeps remaining in Japan, making it a precious cultural property. With its elegant appearance and historical significance, Kochi Castle is a popular tourist attraction along the south highway.
We were there 2:30 Wednesday. It was not crowded, and access to the top of the tower was easy and not congested. The stairs (especially the 1st set) are quite steep. Unlike many other temples & castles here, they have free lockable lockers for you to put your shoes in. There is no need to be carrying an extra bag around with you. The castle is filled with interesting boards in Japanese & English explaining the history.
Ian K — Google review
It’s pretty but super far!!! Went twice and with different weather (rainy and sunny) and it was total hell! You gotta climb the hill and then lots and lots of stairs. Also, inside you must go barefoot and the stairs are impossible to climb safely, they’re tiny, horizontal and it’s specially dangerous because it’s packed. You must avoid if you have children, are older and/or are fat cause it’s truly impossible and inaccessible.
Gaby — Google review
Beautiful castle and grounds that you walk through to get to the main building. It is very well preserved and stepping in you can really feel the history in the floor boards.
Alexandra S — Google review
An excellent example of a 17th Century Japanese castle and fortifications. Steep climb and stairs to get the castle and plenty of view points over the city . Once inside there are steep stairs to the top but fantastic views over the city . The history is explained at many locations throughout the grounds and on the way up the castle

The icon of Kochi - Kochi Castle is recognized as one of the national buildings in Japan. The castle was rebuilt a few hundred years ago as the original building was destroyed by war. - There are multiple levels in the castle keep, and there are introductions about everything of the castle including it’s history, how it was built, special features to aid battles, as well as other castles in Japan. - You are advised to climb up to the top level of the castle keep through the steep stairs to enjoy a magnificent 360-degree view of Kochi city.

Simply gorgeous castle, we didn't go inside (we had already climbed up and down Osaka Castle's 7 flights, and several temples by that time), but the surrounding grounds around the wall were enough for me and my husband. Please note, you don't need the same birdseye Pic for fb/IG as thousands of others to post. Take the road less traveled and see a quieter version of an historic site. Beside most - not all - castles are replicas, so you're not standing in the footsteps of those passed. There are so many nooks of beauty in Japan, enjoy your own tailored experience!
Gillian M — Google review
OMG This is utterly stunning to visit. From entry to exit it is phenomenal. An onsite into the era. Take your time, try to be here early in the day as the castle gets small as you climb higher.
Kevan S — Google review
We visited Kochi castle whilst on vacation work family. Beware, there are many steps to get up to the summit. Before you go inside you must remove your shoes, they gave a shoe storage area. Then equally challenging steps inside the castle. To get up to the top floors the steps are at least double to triple a normal step. So cool to see when you reach the top though! There are also cool models and artifacts as you go up each floor.

Kochi Park, situated within Kochi Castle, is a delightful and expansive green space. Upon arrival, there's an English-speaking volunteer who offers guided tours, providing insights into the park's attractions, grounds, and historical significance. It is also worth mentioning that in the past, visitors used to gather here during the evenings for leisurely activities like drinking. The castle itself is renowned as one of Japan's most stunning structures and has been exceptionally well-preserved.
Kochi Park was excellent and we got a good workout on all the stairs. We loved the fixtures holding up the trees. The old buildings are so beautifully preserved and made for a highlight of our day here in Kochi.

Interesting castle to visit. You can walk around the grounds and inside the castle. When I went it cost 850 YEN to go inside the castle - only about $5 US with the current exchange rate.

Went to the castle , if you have any mobility issues this will not be the best place for you . It’s a steep climb to the castle and then when in the steps are very steep . Really warm when we were there . Lots to see in the castle and great info boards . Views are great from the top
Peter S — Google review
It's a rare Japanese 'castle' built in the early 1600s. On a hill, the walk up could be challenging for less mobile types as there are many steps. There are ramps as well, but I didn't use them. You have to remove your shoes to walk the main building, but to see a place actually built as seen in movies was fascinating. There are great views of the city from the very top. But, if the steps outside are too much, don't try it.I thought it was worth the trip.

Right next to a popular walking shopping street. Easy to find and a can't miss attraction in Kochi. The castle, the articulated cut pine trees and bushes are an awe feeling to look at.

Myojinmaru is a popular food stall located in Hirome Market, known for its specialty dish, katsuo tataki. The only items on the menu are beer, rice, and the regional fish specialty. The fresh cuts of skipjack tuna are seared to perfection by a cook using straw and flames that can be seen from the stall's window.
The famous grilled sashimi is soooo good!! The line is fast, combo are sold out but you can order rice sashmi separtely The hardest part is to find a seat in the plaza Many many people

20250323 We came here due to recommendation from event booth in local travel exhibition. It was the first time we tried a half cooked sashimi. Quite funny taste. Just the over busy day made it hard to enjoy more.

Mr A was slightly apprehensive but persuaded him to give another local market a go! Atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were very helpful. Although not on show, when you get to the counter they bring out an English translation of the menu. WS fun watching behind the counter and also the automatic lager dispensers! Recommend you get there early for lunch - we arrived around 11am - one area was really full but we managed to get seats in another. Another tip - if you’re lucky enough to find seat (or if you’re early and it looks like seats won’t be a problem) ensure you put a hat or something on the table place where you plan to sit - thus worked a treat and was what locals were doing. We went for the fried Eels, fried seaweed and of course the legendary Seared Bonito (fish of Mackerel and Tuna family). It was yummy, Mr A even said do too! 😁🙌
Zoe A — Google review
We went at dinner time and it was very crowded and took us a while to get a table. Other than that, the seared bonito is delicious and the smokiness paired with salt elevates the taste. Imoten is tasty too.
Wei L — Google review
Incredible katsuo!! They braise the meat right in front of you, which is very fun to watch. The location is fun, at the very center of the busy market. I got the sauce and salt set, which lets you try both flavors. Both the sauce and salt were delicious, but I preferred the salt. After you're done eating, just leave the trays and dishes at the table and the staff will clear them away.

Katsurahama Beach, located in Kochi Prefecture, is a picturesque spot known for its wide sandy beach and pine-backed bay. The beach stretches between Cape Ryuzu and Cape Ryuo at the entrance to Urado Bay, offering stunning views of colorful beach gravel, pine groves, and the azure ocean.
Beautiful and well maintained beach with beautiful pebbles rather than sand. The area has a few things to walk around and see. Would recommend stopping in and enjoying the sea breeze here!

Easy to get to and from the beach by bus about 1 and hour. Costing ¥800 from the station. Bus number S3 from the station or on route . I came here to see the commemorative statue of Sakamoto Ryoma and the museum dedicated to him. The beach is free and so is the statue. The beach itself is amazingly clean and you can see and hear the crashing waves clearly. There is also a short cut through the forest to reach the museum. If you are coming via My-U Bus and prefer walking down slopes than up, then you might want to drop at the museum first, visit it and make your way down.

Took the My-Yu bus bus there. The one day pass costs 1000yen and the beach is the last stop. Lots of visitors . Great to gaze at the Pacific ocean while walking on the beach. After that we went to have a view of Sakamoto Ryoma, rather majestic and authoritative. There are gift shops and snack shops to visit. If you are interested, you can also visit the aquarium.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Sakamoto Ryoma Statue in Kochi Prefecture is a towering sculpture of the influential samurai from the 19th century. This historical figure holds great significance in Japan and has multiple statues throughout the province, with Katsurahama boasting the largest one. Shikoku is known for being home to this famous landmark, which represents an important period during the Edo era.
Katsurahama is renowned as a “moon-viewing paradise” (月見勝地, Tsukimi Shōchi), where the full moon casts its silvery glow upon the shimmering ocean, blending harmoniously with the soft, sweeping sands to create a scene of serene romance. This breathtaking coastal landscape has long been celebrated as “Tosa’s greatest scenic spot” (土佐第一名勝, Tosa Daiichi Meishō), captivating visitors with its timeless beauty. It is said that in his youth, Sakamoto Ryōma often strolled along this very shore, gazing out at the vast Pacific Ocean as he contemplated the future of Japan. Standing here, one can almost picture him, filled with ambition, looking beyond the horizon toward a new era. The waves of Katsurahama are awe-inspiring, rolling in with powerful surges that crash against the shore, revealing the untamed grandeur of the Pacific. The rhythmic roar of the waves seems to echo the turbulence of history, whispering tales of change and revolution. More than just a site for moonlit reverie, this place offers a profound encounter with the majesty of nature and the weight of history—a destination truly worth experiencing.
Trina S — Google review
During my visit, I had the opportunity to climb up and get a closer look at the Sakamoto Ryoma statue for only 100 yen. Although the climb was somewhat unstable, it was well worth it as it provided a fantastic view of the sea from the top. Overall, it was a great experience.

This quaint aquarium is not just about observing; it invites guests to engage directly through touch pools and feeding opportunities. Among its fascinating inhabitants are red-eyed Japanese lates, playful eels, sea turtles, and seals. The close-knit environment makes it an ideal spot for families and anyone passionate about oceanic creatures.
Fun place with lots of interactive exhibits. Very unique aquarium experience

I am shocked that people still go to watch the dolphin shows. It is not right to take these intelligent, kind and beautiful creatures from where they belong and put them in small tanks, starve them so they would do the tricks and enterentain the public. I've seen how these guys clean the tanks, and they empty them completely to clean them while the dolphins are gasping! This is not right on so many levels! Please do not buy the tickets to the dolphins' shows!
Ilona B — Google review
Dolphins are truly gentle creatures. They are sentient social animals with consciousness probably like ours. How happy would they be living in captivity? Dolphins in aquarium is like a person in prison! 😕😕😕

The aquarium is small and a little bit dirty. The place does not have air conditioning. Also 1200¥ entrance fee for such a small aquarium is too much.

Nestled atop Mount Godaisan, Chikurinji Temple stands as a serene oasis and the 31st stop on the renowned Shikoku Pilgrimage route. This historic temple, established in the eighth century, is dedicated to Manjusri bodhisattva and boasts a stunning five-story pagoda that captivates visitors year-round. The journey to Chikurinji is particularly enchanting during autumn when vibrant foliage frames its picturesque setting.
Nice little temple compound on a very green hill. Walking distance to the botanical garden.
Pia L — Google review
Very beautiful and calm, one of my favorite temples so far. And the pretty Japanese garden that is on temple grounds was absolutely worth a visit.
Alexandra S — Google review
There is a special exhibition of paintings to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of the Temple. The sound system is bearly audible, perhaps to enjoy only in solitude. The little garden nearly looks like a painting, too. The Temple itself has nice setting. A pity the great Buddha images were cordoned off so one can only seen them from quite a distance. The other Buddha images are outdoor, and one can see them closely.

A beautiful temple with a stunning garden setting. Well worth the visit

About 30-min bus ride from Kochi station, the place has the unique ambiance of a Japanese Buddhist temple that is pleasantly quiet and calm. If you plan to use My Yu Bus ticket (a day ticket for Yu Bus and Kochi tram), it is definitely worth coming up here after exploring Kochi city area.

We took the My-Yu bus to visit this Temple 31 of the Shikoku 88 temples pilgrimage tour. Impressive, awesome temple. Do not miss the 5 story pagoda.
GAN Y — Google review
Great temple to visit, the temple grounds are serene and beautiful. Even though we visited Kochi for just a day and a half, I was very happy that we came out to Chikurin-ji. Good to combine with the botanical garden that exceeded our expectations as well
Ludvig S — Google review
Beautiful grounds with very little foot traffic which makes getting pictures very easy. The pagoda is located on a hill to the east of Kochi. The road up is by way of a narrow, winding road. It is one way which makes it less stressful. There is parking on the down slope after the observation deck parking area so there isn’t really a need to walk down to the pagoda from there.

Japanese regional restaurant
Udon noodle restaurant
Tosa Tataki Dojo is a lively and popular eatery where visitors can grill their own bonito fish over a straw-fueled flame. The restaurant offers a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the traditional method of searing their own fish, known as Warayaki Taiken Ryoma Zen. Upon arrival at the ground-floor souvenir shop, guests can request this experience and will be guided upstairs to participate in the cooking process.
I decided to come here because of the good review, thinking it was simply fresh katsuo-tataki. What added to this unique experience was being handed our own cut of katsuo and searing it ourselves over an open flame. That was a wonderful experience. The local goods & souvenir shop is also interesting.
Daniel T — Google review
The actual best restaurant to try bonito in Kochi, Highly recommend it :)))
Anthony V — Google review
I love the fact that we get to pick the fish skewer and grill it ourselves. Meal is simple, with or without set. Fresh bonito fish with either wasabi or salt. Simple yet good. The souvenir shop nearby is good as well, you get to sample food before buying them.
T H — Google review
We arrived in Kochi by cruise and was recommended to try the Katsuo Tataki, and was not disappointed. It was a fun experience to cook the fish over the open fire, (well directed by the chef there). And the taste was amazing, the searing process really bringing a great dimension to the flavour. They catered well for my kids, which has been a consistent plus in our time in Japan.
Shih-Lon F — Google review
Make your bonito seared on fire, with some help by the staff, bonito plate only or with rice and miso soup combo. It was really good! Fresh and soft. Garnish with onions and garlic went well but best taste simply with a pinch of salt.
Zara K — Google review
This was so cool, get to sear your own katsuo here. You get a big block, they tell you what to do. There's a board on the wall that has English and the directions to you are pretty minimal (hold it here, turn it over, etc) and pretty easy to understand by hand movements so you don't have to know Japanese. Then they serve it with garnishes, I opted for garnishes only and it came to under $9 which is an incredible bargain. The only knock on this place is there is no direct bus or train here so you'll have to take a taxi or walk a bit to a bus stop.

This place serves excellent tataki and the experience cooking our own tataki was a complete joy. Go there early because there will be a line. Bon appetite!

Pasta Cafe Hachinomori is a charming restaurant with a rustic ambiance, serving up Western dishes with a local twist. Visitors have praised the generous portion sizes and reasonable prices, as well as the attentive customer service. The breakfast Japanese set meals are particularly popular, offering hearty and flavorful options that are reminiscent of Kyoto's obanzai. While some find it a bit pricey, many agree that the quality and quantity of food make it worth the cost.

(Translated by Google) I had breakfast at Pasta Cafe Hachinomori in Houei-cho, Kochi City. As rumored to be a popular restaurant with lines forming before it even opens, the moment I entered I was enveloped in the aroma of home-roasted coffee, which made me feel very happy. This time I ordered a set of mentaiko mayo toast and a fried egg. The aroma of the seaweed, the umami of the mentaiko mayo, and the mellowness of the yolk were exquisite, and even the accompanying soup and small pasta were carefully prepared. The interior of the restaurant has a warm atmosphere that matches the brick exterior, making it a great place to spend a relaxing morning. They also sell coffee beans, so you can enjoy the taste of Hachinomori at home, which is a nice perk. This is a restaurant that will satisfy both your heart and stomach in the morning, making it one you'll want to visit again and again. (Translated by Google) I visited for dinner and ordered the "Chicken Steak with Ponzu Vegetables & Mushroom and Bacon Japanese-Style Pasta Set." Wow, it was a huge portion! It was a relief since I was starving. However, the pasta noodles seemed a bit powdery—it didn't have the smooth, chewy texture I was hoping for. The pizza dough also felt a bit sticky, rather than crispy. The seasoning itself was delicious, but the chicken steak, on the other hand, was fragrant, juicy, and very satisfying. The coffee and strawberry ice cream after the meal were a subtle but satisfying combination that complemented each other perfectly. 🍓 The restaurant's interior is a warm, log cabin-style dining room. Several chefs skillfully prepare dishes in the open kitchen, and the finished dishes are brought to the table one after another. 👨‍🍳 The sofa seats, where Western pop music plays, were comfortable and I enjoyed a relaxing time. The clientele is primarily middle-aged to senior citizens, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Payment methods accepted are credit card, PayPay, and Rakuten Pay. The restaurant is very clean, and the restrooms are comfortable Western-style toilets. While the pasta is a bit disappointing, it's rare to find a restaurant where you can enjoy a pasta, pizza, and meat set for under 2,000 yen. For those who value value, dinner at Pasta Cafe Hachinomori is definitely worth considering.

It came with soup, pasta, salad, etc. The portion was small, but I think it was quite reasonable. The coffee tasted average. It took less than five minutes to be served. One thing that bothered me was the dim lighting inside the restaurant. It wasn't so bad around the entrance, but there were no seats available, so I was shown to a room in the back. As other people have written, the attitude of the staff was not great. It was disappointing in many ways. Sakamoto Ryoma's Hometown Museum is a charming museum showcasing local history. It is housed in a traditional wooden structure and boasts a 360-degree theater with an intriguing 4D experience. While there is some English guidance available, most of the exhibits are presented in Japanese, so visitors should have some basic historical knowledge before visiting. The museum features two floors of displays, including many interactive and audio exhibits suitable for all ages.
It's not just about Ryoma but about the era in general. I get an understanding on the lives of the different classes of people living in Tosa during the Edo period and from there, maybe a glimpse into why Ryoma decided to do what he did. An excellent place to spend an hour or two.

There is a free audio guide and storage service (hand carry luggages only) for foreign visitors. The 4D theatre inside the museum is quite interesting. Department store
Kochi Daimaru is a high-end department store in Kochi, Japan. Despite the pricey items, the store offers a lovely shopping experience with its quality products and amazing service from the staff. Visitors have praised the exceptional customer service, such as going out of their way to help find an ATM and providing assistance for a stray kitten. The store is described as luxurious and classy, offering great quality products.
I often grocery shop in the store in the basement. Overall the store is clean, provides top-notch service, and has many premium brands, items, and knowledgeable staff. I love the basement food area and grocery store.

A department store selling retail products and goods. Visit the floor for the Luck Rack where they have discounted clothing, purses, jewelry and miscellaneous items. Unfortunately at this section there are no tax free purchases.

Short day port stop on the Norwegian Jewel. Fun walking on our own after a shuttle bus to city for $15. Very clean and safe city.
Greg S — Google review
There are food options in the basement such as Paul Bocuse and DONQ bakeries, with their lovely soft breads. There is also an orange jello and drink stall a few steps away, with a wide variety of orange types. The unagi store seems popular while the tempura and sushi stalls are pretty good. On the 5th floor, there is a Man Unagi store which is really good. There are also discounted goods on the same floor such as Levis jeans and other apparel and some cookware and plateware.

This is a very nice department store in Kochi. Beware the high prices, but everything is really lovely inside. The staff were so kind that they walked us downstairs, through the building, across the street and around the corner to show us to an ATM we had asked directions to, and they got nothing out of it. That's just amazing service, and applaud them.

We found a stray kitten near the station. The staff at the pet store gave us an old cage for free to carry him in. Thank you for giving this little cat a chance at life!

Shopping mall
AEON MALL Kochi is a vibrant shopping destination that feels like a mini-town, perfect for spending an entire day. This expansive mall boasts a modern atmosphere and offers an impressive variety of shops, from trendy clothing outlets like H&M and Uniqlo to electronics stores and household goods. The recent expansion has made it the largest shopping center in Shikoku, enhancing its appeal with the newly revamped Food Forest—a delightful food court featuring numerous stalls and ample seating for a comfortable dining experience.
Very big mall with a great Food Court, called "Food Forest". It also has seats with power plugs and free wifi so you can work or study here, if necessary. Fantastic!

After the mall’s expansion, AEON mall Kochi is the biggest shopping mall in Shikoku. What used to be the “Picnic Court” is now called “Food Forest”— where you can choose from various food stalls and more seats are available for more comfortable dining experience.

It’s Sunday, 6/22/2025, at 1:30PM and everyone in town gathers here to eat. Many food options are available. All the moms seem to be feeding their kids McDonald’s foods though.

Aeon Mall in Kochi, Japan, is a great place to spend a day out. It's like its own little town with shops, places to eat, and things to do. The atmosphere is nice and modern, so it's a good spot to hang out and explore. You'll find all kinds of stores there – from clothing shops to electronics stores and places to buy household stuff. And if you get hungry, they've got plenty of restaurants and food courts with all sorts of options. The best part is that there's stuff to do for everyone. You can catch a movie, play some games, or let the kids run around in the play areas. It's a fun place to go with friends or family. So if you're in Kochi and looking for something to do, definitely check out Aeon Mall. It's a cool spot to spend some time and see what's happening.

Irish pub
Irish Pub Amontillado offers a modern twist on the traditional Irish pub experience. While some dishes like the Irish stew may not be entirely authentic, the Shepherd's Pie is highly recommended for its authenticity and flavor. The pub features an excellent selection of local craft beers and offers a 20% discount during their happy hour from 5-7pm. Despite being located inside a shopping "mall," it provides a laid-back atmosphere perfect for conversations with friends.
This place is great! Good whiskey and beer selection, i has a steak that was phenomenal. Pizzas are fluffy sourdough style. Waiters were 10/10 highly recommend 💕

A nice take on a traditional Irish pub. Excellent local craft beer selection. The Irish stew wasn't very authentic, and having pizza on the menu was an interesting take. But the Shephard's Pie was fantastic and very authentic. Being inside the shopping "mall" hurt the experience a bit.

Tosaryori Tsu Kasa is a charming spot where you can savor natural salt-grilled sweetfish, enhanced with the refreshing aroma of sudachi citrus. The Kansai-style sushi and fried chicken leg are also must-tries. This elegant establishment offers an exquisite Japanese Kaiseki seafood experience, with a special focus on bonito. Be sure not to miss their unique "Wooden" fish dish, which is a local favorite.

Tokugetsu-rō, also known as Yangxing Tower, is a long-established restaurant in Kochi. It is famous for its historical buildings and beautiful paintings. During the plum season, visitors can enjoy the display of "Bonsai" in the room while indulging in delicious dishes served in Koshichi bowls (Sawachi). The restaurant also offers a large banquet hall where guests can experience unique banquets typical of Kochi.
Very classy and very traditional. Beautiful views from the dining rooms and hospitable staff.

We made a reservation for lunch. The taste is fine. But it seems that there is only 1 senior lady serving the whole restaurant. After lunch, we tried to get reimbursed for our parking ticket as mentioned on the website but the lady refused to do so as we accidentally parked at the cooperative parking space and so it can’t be reimbursed.

(Translated by Google) We were a group of five men and dined here while sightseeing in Kochi. We accidentally booked a table for four instead of five, but the staff kindly accommodated us at short notice. It was completely our fault, and the staff seemed apologetic. We are truly grateful to them. The food was absolutely delicious. We had heard good things about the place, but each and every dish exceeded our expectations, leaving us with nothing but "delicious." We ordered the ¥12,000 course, plus beer and sake. When we ran out of drinks, a kimono-clad waitress refilled our cups. Apparently, it's the Kochi way to pour for the waitress and drink with them. One or two waitresses were available for our group of five, and the talkative young waitress, Ms. T, kept the atmosphere lively with a sense of humor. We were usually with a group of people who like to drink at a leisurely pace, but the atmosphere was so enjoyable that the drinks tasted amazing and we emptied the whole bottle in one go. Still, for just under 20,000 yen per person, we felt it was an incredible deal to be able to enjoy pleasant conversation with beautiful staff as they poured us drinks and eat delicious food. It seems like a prestigious restaurant, but they treated us just as well despite our casual attire. I slightly regretted not wearing a collar, but the staff said it didn't matter. If you're visiting Takamatsu city for sightseeing or have a company kaiseki dinner, I highly recommend making a reservation here. I was very satisfied with the quality of the food compared to the price, the service of the staff, and the appearance of the restaurant. It's a wonderful memory from my trip to Kochi. Thank you.

(Translated by Google) I was finally able to go to Tokugetsuro, a prestigious restaurant in Kochi that I had been curious about since I had been to Kochi many times, for the first time. The young husband and his acquaintances asked for it, and the wonderful plate dishes came out with a ton of gusto, and they danced with joy. It's even more amazing since it serves 8 people. The bonito is seared with salt. The tuna is medium fatty. The sea bream had plenty of sole and was so delicious. Dorome can be eaten raw, and the homemade Shuto is not too salty and is extremely delicious. Mr. Nakai will serve you a variety of dishes served in elaborate bowls. On the other hand, Mr. Nakai and his friends shared the drinks as well. I see, is that so? Eight of us ate too much and had a great time playing chrysanthemums. In fact, I realized once again that this type of play is what has enlivened Kochi's culture. I'll definitely come again~ I'm looking forward to it. If you find yourself near Kochi station in Japan, make sure to stop by 鍋焼きラーメン 千秋. This local gem offers only one type of ramen, the Nabeyaki ramen, which is considered the soul food of Kochi. Despite the lack of variety in flavors, this place does not disappoint. The portions are generous and perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.
It was a great experience of the local ramen (Nabeyaki-Style) cuisine 🍜. The rice in the soup (in the end) depends on your personal preference. A priceless place. 🥳
Nicola M — Google review
You don't get to choose a ramen flavor here, just the size. This is the charm of this place though, and what they do have, they do well. The portions are large for Japanese size, and is within 2 minutes distance from Kochi station, so location is convenient as well. The good prep was quick, and is easy to visit alone, in a rush, or even if you want to relax someplace. The restaurant is small, though, so it is not recommended for larger parties.

I have to give credit to the shop that offers only one dish - claypot ramen - and you have 3 portion sizes ro choose plus 3 sizes of plain rice. As far as the taste is concerned, the noodle was great but the soup was too salty for my taste though it went well with the rice. I was told Japanese ramen soup is generally salty. There was a fresh egg, a bit of vegetable, very thin slices of fish paste and some small pieces of chicken meat that were very tough. Good for a quick meal in a chilly day.

On a side note this is one of the few nabeyaki ramen shops that open in the evening. For some reason a lot of the other ones I've searched for around close at 3pm??
