Marugame

Mentioned on

Nestled in the picturesque Kagawa Prefecture of Japan, Marugame is a vibrant city that boasts a rich history and stunning landscapes. With a population of approximately 108,541 residents spread across 46,101 households, this charming locale covers an area of about 111.79 square kilometers. One of its most notable landmarks is the majestic Marugame Castle, or Marugame-jo, which dates back around 400 years and sits atop Mt. Kameyama.

Marugame Castle

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Marugame Castle, also known as Marugame-jo, is a 16th-century hilltop fortress located on Mt. Kameyama in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is renowned for its well-preserved original wooden donjon and impressive stone walls, with the inner moat featuring a towering wall that stands over 60 meters tall – the tallest of its kind in Japan.
Super cool place. You can walk around the grounds and just enjoy nature. A lot of people outside just enjoying the nature. The view from the top is gorgeous, especially during the sunset. The best time is visit is definitely during the sunset except the castle won't be open sadly. So you kinda have to pick and choose but that's okay.
Joshua P — Google review
The castle is small but the location is good in the middle of the city. The view is beautiful when you are at the top, you can also see the long bridge going to Okayama. It's nice to relax at the top, just accompany it with a cold beer, that's ok.
Rimon G — Google review
The park itself is free, including the steep walkway up to the castle (somehow it makes me miss staircases). You only pay to go into the castle, which is also where all the stamps are. The castle itself is small, but the park, the surrounding walls and the gates make for a great experience. Be mindful of the closing time though, as it is fairly early. There's a free parking lot where the museum is (but it was closed today, sadly). Although the parking lot was almost full when I arrived, there was no sign of any tour buses. So I still got an overall quiet experience, which was much appreciated. Don't forget to visit the little gift shop at the bottom of the uphill walkway, as they have a cute little fan shop, as well as some Yadon/Slowpoke merch (mascot of the prefecture).
Ilse E — Google review
Visiting Marugame Castle is truly a remarkable experience! Steeped in history, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past that's unlike any other. I can’t wait to share more about the captivating stories and breathtaking views that make this place so special!
Ailyn O — Google review
This is a small castle, open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Even after hours, you can still enter the park (though not the castle tower) to enjoy amazing sunset views
Ka C — Google review
The walkway is absolutely delightful! The walk-up is a little tiring, but the view is perfect! If you walk up just before sunset, you'll have the perfect picture of marugame City!
Elizabeth L — Google review
Castle on a mountain! There is a steep climb up, but the view is amazing! Small tower on top, but it was closed when I arrived (Monday).
Roger A — Google review
One of the 12 original remaining castles in Japan. The castle itself is very small with steep stairs to get up and it's a steep hike to get up to the castle itself, but the view of Marugame and the stone walls are impressive.

Art museum
Museums
The Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum is a serene and modern museum located by the Inland Sea, offering breathtaking views of Seto-ohashi. It is dedicated to showcasing the works of renowned landscape painter Higashiyama Kaii. The small yet elegant museum provides an amazing exhibition of his art in a beautifully designed space by architect Yoshio Taniguchi.
The view seto-bridge was very beautiful from the museum. The museum itself was pretty and quite small.
Ajus — Google review
Small but elegant art museum, near the sea & bridge so the view is very coool. Please follow the instruction to finish the whole journey so that in the end you will get “wow”.
Wei W — Google review
Small museum dedicated to the painter Higashiyama Kaii. Worth a look around if you're a fan of his work or have time to spare. You can't take photos inside and unfortunately you can't buy postcards of the displayed works either.

(Translated by Google) This famous temple was chosen by Emperor Sutoku as the final resting place. The emperor's tomb is located within the grounds, creating a pious atmosphere. Even before that, it was a sacred site for Kobo Daishi, and is rich in cultural assets. Nestled in the mountains of Goshikidai, it's surrounded by nature throughout the four seasons, yet is easily accessible, with a wide road running right up to the temple. It's also the setting for a dramatic piece of history: before Emperor Meiji fought against the former shogunate forces, after 700 years, the spirit of Emperor Sutoku was welcomed from this place to the capital in order to secure the Meiji government's support. Even if you're not interested in making the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, we recommend a visit.

(Translated by Google) 81-ban Shiramine-ji Temple is located on Mt. Goshikidai in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. It's quite high, requiring a short climb from the plains, making it a challenging stop for seasoned hikers. However, the lush trees and cool air along the way make the climb less monotonous. The main deity is the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara. The main hall is majestic, and the grounds are spacious. Besides the main hall and Daishido Hall, the Mausoleum of Emperor Sutoku is also a unique feature. It's said that Shiramine-ji Temple has a deep connection with the spirit of Emperor Sutoku, resulting in a richer atmosphere of faith and history than typical temples. The grounds are lined with towering ancient trees, and stone steps and lanterns stretch all the way to the front of the hall, giving the walk a truly ancient temple atmosphere. The area is not crowded, and the environment is quiet, making it a pleasant place to take a leisurely walk. Unlike the plain-feeling simplicity of the previous stop, 80-ban Kokubun-ji Temple, Shiramine-ji Temple possesses the solemnity and tranquility unique to mountain temples.

While the road winds through the mountains, there aren't any particularly narrow sections, so if you take your time, it's not scary. There are three parking lots, all of which are free. The tomb of Emperor Sutoku is here. As I entered the temple grounds, I heard a constant stream of music coming from the speakers, which made me wonder what it was all about. There's a fairly long staircase leading up to the main hall, and there are halls dedicated to the principal image of each zodiac sign, so it might be a good idea to visit the one associated with your birth year. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't have the photo data for the Tengu statue I was supposed to have taken, so I think I'll go again. They have a lot of details about how the seto bridges were built. And it's free. Pity most of it was in japanese. But u can still watch the videos and animations. There is some English explanations limited to 1 sentence descriptions. Lovely views of the bridge. If you have kids or toddlers they'll love the large crawling space and parks... Come before 11am before the tour groups arrive...

Goshikidai Visitors Center

Visitor center
Nature & Parks
Goshikidai Visitors Center is located on a lava plateau that spans Sakaide City and Takamatsu City, offering a picturesque drive with stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. The plateau is named after its five peaks, each representing a different color - red, yellow, black, blue, and white.
(Translated by Google) 2020.11.29, rather than the Goshikidai Visitor Center, it is the road leading to the center, just before Shiramineji Temple on the prefectural road Kamogawa Goshikidai Line. I started working at the Sakaide sales office about 10 years ago, and since then I have rented company housing in Kamo Town and worked alone for the past 5 years. You can see it at a glance with the bridge in the background, and I used to visit here from time to time. A fantastic waterfall that appears when it rains. Kagawa Sakaide is famous for growing mandarin oranges, and there are terraced fields of mandarin oranges in the surrounding sunny mountains. From this slightly elevated place, you can enjoy the fields of broccoli, ginseng, wheat, and rice, all changing colors throughout the year. What I look forward to most this time of year is selling freshly harvested mandarin oranges on the roadside. Today, I heard that they started selling them yesterday, so I bought ``Ohara Beni Wase'' mandarin oranges, a specialty of Sakaide. I always use this store. The weather was nice today, and we could see Sanuki Fuji and Seto Ohashi Bridge clearly. (Translated by Google) As you'd expect from a temple associated with the famous Emperor Sutoku, Shiramine Shrine, dedicated to him, sits in the center. It's one of the 88 sacred sites of Shikoku, but the main hall and Daishido hall are relegated to the left corner, making them hard to find. 😂 The sutra offering office is even harder to find, hidden among the trees at the back of the parking lot on the right. Although it's on a slight hill, the grounds are fairly flat, making it a relatively easy place to visit. This is also the spot where Yo Oizumi said he had a supernatural experience on the TV show "What Do You Do on Wednesday?", but given his subsequent performances, it seems like it wasn't an evil spirit.

The temple is located right next to a main road, making it very easy to find. The main deity is the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bodhisattva. While the temple grounds are small, they have a compact feel. The main hall is visible shortly after entering the main gate. It's said that the temple's name, "Tennoji," was inspired by a prayer from Emperor Shomu, earning it special patronage from the imperial family. The temple grounds also enshrine the guardian deity, "Ichiya Tenjin," known for its patronage for academic success. The temple attracts not only pilgrims but also local students and parents. Beyond the Eleven-Faced Kannon, the deity's deity worship lends the temple a unique atmosphere. Although the temple grounds are small, they are immaculately maintained, making the route easy to follow. Unlike the "Kannon Cave and ocean views" of Gosho-ji Temple, Tennoji Temple emphasizes historical heritage and deities. However, there's no sign indicating this, so if you arrive without checking reviews, you might be surprised. Tenno-ji Temple is easy to find, as it's a temple associated with Emperor Sutoku. First, you'll see the imposing Shiraminemiya Miwa torii gate, and if you enter straight, you'll arrive at Shiraminemiya. The main hall of Tenno-ji Temple is located to the left and behind. Kamada Kyosaikai Kyodo Museum

Local history museum
Museums
History Museums
The Kamada Mutual Aid Society, established in 1918, has been involved in a range of community initiatives such as creating libraries, museums, and social education facilities. The present museum, constructed in 1922, is a valuable early example of reinforced concrete architecture. Originally a library, the building underwent renovations and now features unique embellishments.
Very nice local museum which at the time was showing some beautifully painted panels, pottery and laquerware and some historical artifacts and astronomical equipment. What stood out to me was some incredibly detailed paintings of Birds, flora and lanscapes of Ran ei/Lan Ying (1585-1664) with vibrant blues & greens that seemed to leap off the page. (thanks to the kind attending curator who helped me with this) There is also a wonderful park next door. The locale is supposedly what Murakami Haruki based the library on in his book "Kafka on the Shore" and I half expected to see Saeki-san and Oshima as I went through the door! :)

The Four Yotsuya Simon Doll Museum, also known as the Awao Mansion, is a beautifully preserved Western-style building that showcases a unique collection of ball-jointed dolls. Gamō Udon

Udon noodle restaurant
Nestled about a 20-minute stroll from JR Kamogawa Station, Gamō Udon is a beloved spot for those craving traditional udon dishes. This charming open-air kiosk draws both locals and visitors alike, often resulting in long lines during lunchtime. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Kake Udon, featuring firm noodles bathed in a flavorful dashi broth that has captured many hearts.
There’s something fun about queuing up for udon and picking your own topping! Very nice variety of tempura items - eggs, inari, croquette, pumpkin, shrimp, etc Will recommend to everyone visiting Takamatsu - but watch out for the queue! We took about 15mins after arriving at 830am! Food isn’t too expensive as well 😆 There are plenty of seats both inside and outside the restaurant too! Plenty of parking too!

The inside of the restaurant is small, but the food is delicious. It's chewy, but soft enough to be eaten. This is the most delicious udon. If you're not sure how to order, a small warm bowl of udon is the norm. Please choose tempura according to your preference
Shuhei N — Google review
Visited in late July as part of my udon quest in this udon land. It took about 30 minutes from queuing to ordering on a Tuesday under the scorching summer sun, but umbrellas were thoughtfully provided at the front of the shop for waiting customers. The noodles were absolutely delicious, with a smooth, slippery texture that still had a nice chew. The chef was clearly skilled and meticulous, making sure each bowl came out just right. Since we had already over-ordered fried food at the previous udon shop, I kept it simple here with just noodles topped with aburaage (fried bean curd) and an onsen egg, and it was perfect. The shop itself is tiny, so we ate on the bench outside. Prices were surprisingly cheap, and the noodles here really felt on another level compared to the first stop. I would love to revisit if I get the chance.

We took train from Takamatsu and walk 1.2KM from Kameoka Station to the shop. Reach before 11am already see long queue. But the queue move fast.. We ordered the smallest bowl of udon cist 180 yen. Top up with kakiage, ika geso, tofu skin and half boil egg. Paid then add soup by ourself. The udon is super tasty. Worth the effort to go. Give it a try when you in Takamatsu. 😋😋😋

Delicious udon from this local tiny restaurant run out of a house. Perfect udon and great tasting tempura. Get here early because people will line up for an hour or more for some of this amazing shop. And it's ridiculously inexpensive. My bowl of udon, with two pieces of tempura added (one shrimp and one chicken) in July 2023 cost the equivalent of $2.92 (US)! What a bargain! If you are ever in this part of Japan definitely come and eat here.

It's self-service, so you can choose your toppings to your liking, giving you a great deal of freedom; you can simply enjoy the broth, or add fried foods and a soft-boiled egg for a more substantial meal. Food court
During my recent journey through Shikoku, I made a delightful stop at the Yoshima PA Food Court on Respect for the Aged Day. Despite the air conditioning being out of order, which made it a bit warm inside, I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with my wife. In addition to locally produced dishes such as Olive's famous salmon, free-range chicken, beef, and pork dishes, as well as Sanuki's specialty bone-in chicken, this food court also offers pork cutlets, hamburgers, ramen, curry, and more. It's after 2pm on a Sunday in December. The last day of a three-day, two-night trip. The store is located in Yoshima PA. There is also a udon noodle shop and an ice cream shop next door. It is a popular spot with a large parking lot and an observation deck. You can see Seto Ohashi Bridge and the Seto Inland Sea. You can also eat outside on the terrace. In fact, you can eat it at the table next to the udon noodles. Each store has different business hours, and you cannot eat udon at the food court during the hours when the udon restaurants are open (10:00 to 16:00, *until 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). The food court is open until late. The food court side has regular table seats, and is a suitable space for receiving the food you order. I ordered the olive beef sukiyaki bowl with miso soup (1,500 yen) from the ticket vending machine. <In-store description> Olive beef ribs from Kagawa Prefecture are used. Rich, refreshing and soft flesh. It was served in about 10 minutes after ordering. I went to my family waiting at the udon restaurant. It's a sukiyaki bowl, but the rice is about 1 cup. Finished with sukiyaki-flavored meat, onions, konjac, green onions, and egg yolk. Also, miso soup with pickles and white miso. The rice was delicious and well balanced with the meat and eggs. The seasoning of sukiyaki is more salty than sweet and spicy. Since the meat was pork belly, I thought it would be a bit fatty, but it wasn't that rich and had a mellow flavor, but it was salty, so I guess it depends on your taste. Personally, with this quality of meat, I didn't have to make it into sukiyaki, it was enough with yakiniku sauce and a light salt and pepper, but I feel like they wanted to expand the menu. This trip started and ended with Olive Beef. I would like to pay attention to olive-based brands from now on. Thank you for the meal (*^^*) (Original)

As you'd expect from a restaurant so close to the sea, it was fresh and delicious. I wasn't particularly impressed with the udon, but the soup was very tasty. It felt like an assembly line system where you use meal tickets, which was a bit confusing for me as I'm not used to it. Not the most fancy place with the atmosphere of being a place where people go during lunch break at work. But that also meant fast service and incredibly cheap yet delicious food. Especially recommended if you're just passing by and need to eat quickly, but definitely also a place to try if you have more time on hand.

(Translated by Google) August 23, 2025, was my first visit. I'd always been curious about their famous tokoroten (sweetened tokoroten) because of the signs. This time, I came all the way to Kagawa specifically to try this place. The roads are narrow, but luckily we managed to avoid oncoming traffic and arrived at the parking lot. There was plenty of space for cars. We arrived in about a minute. The menu was extensive, but since there were only two of us, we ordered two types of tokoroten (mustard vinegar soy sauce and kudzu mochi) and the happy ice cream anmitsu. The tokoroten was cooked right in front of us, which was a delight. The anmitsu was delivered to our table later with a numbered ticket. The location was open, not enclosed, with the sounds of water in the forest and the pleasant breeze from the fan. Both the tokoroten and anmitsu were excellent, and while it's just tokoroten, it's still tokoroten. I was impressed by the addictive tokoroten, which made me want to eat it again. On my way back, I bought some souvenirs at the main store across the street, and the staff were all very friendly. It was a perfect experience, a perfect experience for the first time in a while. Or have the noodles gotten thinner over time? Small: one bowl, medium: two bowls... That's a pretty straightforward The two-bowl bowl is a type I've never seen before The small is a common one, but the medium has a wider base Where did the old white bowl go? Is the bonito flakes the default, a Maruichi thing? I have to check if it's included in the udon noodles. Okra, a summer special. The vinegar adds a refreshing touch. The chopped fried udon is also seasoned, making it a safe and satisfying bowl for everyday use. The plums have a surprisingly rich broth, and the crunchy plums are a real surprise. A clever twist to keep it interesting. The plums aren't sour at all. The chicken cutlet is topped with sauce and is ready. It's perfect, just like the deli section at the supermarket. The hot snack holder opens from the front, but does it keep warm? The konbu tempura is huge. The fiber and oil won't leave you wanting more. I thought it was thicker in the past, but maybe I'm remembering wrong. It's still cold so warm food is delicious~ Dashi soup is nostalgic! ! I was eating a lot of this, this flavor. The parent company is a noodle manufacturer, but the business has changed and has grown into a company that accepts orders for frozen noodles from convenience stores and other stores, and has factories all over Sakaide. At the same time, I get the impression that the number of udon restaurant chains has decreased. It's always crowded, but thankfully it's open until 4:00 pm, and if you wait a little longer, it'll be empty. There is plenty of parking and seating, and the rotation is fast. It's not a particularly noteworthy taste, but I end up eating it every time I try it. For the people of Kagawa Prefecture, udon is not something special, but an everyday thing. It's the same feeling as eating white rice. The system is simple and you won't get confused even if it's your first time using it. Local people are grateful for that kind of ease. However, prices have inevitably increased due to rising commodity prices and labor costs. Previously, I was full for just one coin, but it was 650 yen for Kakechu (2 balls), Chikuwaten, and Fried chicken. I entered the store a little after its opening time of 10:00. As I expected, the noodles were as close to freshly made as possible, so I ordered the kake-dai as is (3 balls). My wife is currently playing (2 balls). As a side menu, choose chicken tempura and egg tempura♪ The slightly sweet dashi soup has a universal taste that will appeal to everyone, but for my wife and I, it was a little too bland, too lacking in individuality, and lacked a bit of impact. The medium-thin noodles go down the throat pretty well, but they have the same hardness from outside to inside, which is different from the texture commonly known as ``kosi.'' But more than anything, the tempura was disappointing! First of all, the chicken tempura and egg tempura were both cold and I was at a loss for words...(・・;) How long have you been making this? ? ? I was imagining tempura with a soft-boiled egg, but instead it turned out to be a hard-boiled egg! It is close to the city and easily accessible from Sanukihama Highway. It is located in such a convenient location, and there is a spacious parking lot. The store clerks have a lively job. The male clerk at the order counter was also sincere and courteous, albeit in a whisper. I ordered “Kake Udon (medium)”. I had “Chikuwa (Isobe fried)”. For now, it's just normal noodles. The taste isn't particularly distinctive...it's just average. The round noodles have a slightly chewy texture. However, it feels a little weak. The restaurant opens at 10:30, and when I visited at 11, it was already full. There are two parking lots, so I don't think it's a problem, but it might be a bit dangerous at lunchtime at 12 o'clock. Although it was full, I was called in quite early, probably because the first round of customers had left. The restaurant is very spacious and comfortable. There are a wide variety of dishes and set menus, and I would normally be confused, but the menu book and tablet were clear and I was able to order very smoothly. This is the key point. The hamburger was not the usual type that is too meaty and has a bitter taste, but it was hard to describe, but it was smooth and had no unpleasant taste, and yet the deliciousness of the meat was felt with an exquisite binding, making it a unique taste. The fried shrimp that came with the set was fried crispy and fluffy on the inside, which was also delicious. The custom-ordered fries were also extremely delicious. The first corn soup was so rich and creamy that I wanted a second helping. The price was also reasonable considering what was served. I'm really glad I went in. It has been operating as a Western restaurant with hamburgers as its selling point for a long time, and even after many years, it is still a popular restaurant with long lines. In the past, they tried a buffet style and went through many twists and turns, but when they went back to their roots and tried again with just hamburgers, customers returned. The fluffy, juicy, finely textured hamburgers made with domestic beef are unlike any other. They mainly serve hamburgers, but they have a very large menu. I went in just after 11am on a weekday, and the woman who guided me took my order without me having to use the touch panel. It was the daily lunch, so I was served without having to wait, and although there was a line, I think the turnover was quite fast. The layout of the restaurant has not changed since the old days, but there are solid partitions so you don't have to worry about other customers. It's family restaurant-style, but there are many people who come alone. Recently, I've been seeing a lot of people with license plates from outside the prefecture. Airport
International airport
Okayama Momotaro Airport is a typical regional airport in Japan. It offers an airport bus service to JR Kurashiki station, taking about 40 minutes, and from there it's a 10-minute walk to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter through the shopping arcade. The airport features shops selling local specialties like peach pudding and black curry. International passengers can access the Muscat lounge, while all passengers can pay 1100 yen for entry.
"I was there yesterday. There are lots of changes happening .and it amaze me.especially the robot thing.I will be back at Jan 28 for another flight.and to see more updates on its improvement.so far I got good services provided by the airport and it's nice"

A typical Japanese regional airport. The airport has shops that sell local delicacies such as peach pudding and black curry. The airport's lounge for international passengers - the Muscat lounge can be accessed both by business class passengers, and even economy passengers can pay 1100 yen to access the lounge. Due to its small amount of international flights, the TSA check and immigration opens 1.5 hours before the flight departs. Despite its size, it also features an observation deck, which offers a great view of the apron and the runway. Reaching Okayama airport usually involves an airport limousine-bus ride from Okayama city. However, when arriving here from other cities like Kurashiki, a taxi ride is a must as public transportation is pretty much non-existent.

I only flew through this airport one time, and it was more than 3 or 4 years ago, so I can't say my review is comprehensive. But I just do recollect that I like the fact that this fairly small airport was somehow tucked into the middle of some rolling hills, which were carved away to create an airport. The services in the airport were okay but not great while the flights are on time (pretty much as you would expect in Japan anyhow) and I had absolutely no trouble navigating the facility.

Kōchi Airport

Airport
Sights & Landmarks
Kōchi Airport, also known as Kōchi Ryoma Airport, is named after the samurai revolutionary Ryoma Sakamoto. It offers flights to and from major Japanese airports such as Haneda, Narita, Komaki, Chubu Centrair International, Osaka International, Kobe and Fukuoka.
Pretty nice domestic flight-only airport. There's not much enough to see in the airport terminal except for the extensive souvenir shops and a few tataki restaurants. The waving gallery on the rooftop of the terminal building, like most Japanese airports, is very pleasant and surprisingly spacious, although the airport itself doesn't see that many flights. The airport bus to downtown Kochi is located at the first floor, just outside the airport terminal. I think given the proximity of the airport to the nearest rail lines (Gomen-Nahari line and the Tosaden streetcar - the latter ended short at neighborhood of Gomen), it could've been better if one of these was extended to serve the airport, giving affordable and more seamless connection to the rest of the city, and even far afield throughout other parts of the prefecture. FYI, if you are fond of unconventional souvenirs, you can find cute Tataki Pillow that is sold at the airside after the security screening.

Nearby attractions include the ruins of Takamatsu Castle and Kagawas Prefectural Museum, as well as the beautiful Ritsurin Koen garden, just a short train ride away.
Small local restaurant but many things you can enjoy. We enjoyed eating udons from two different restaurants (one on the first floor and the other is on the second floor). Both udon restaurants provide different styles and I liked both of them. Also gift shops have lots of udon items, yadon character items, and local stuff. We found lemon cakes are so tasty and olive soda was interesting but a must try item. The check in counters are located on the first floor and security check lines are on the second floor. There are small duty free shops and vending machines after the security check.

My partner and I often use this airport when we visit family. It’s convenients enough - not too big to navigate and get lost in and not too small either so it accommodates just the right number of shops for souvenirs and restaurants for meals before/after a flight. There are international flights as well, but to a couple of limited countries and cities. There’s a very simple credit card lounge, but unfortunately no lounges operated by Japan’s 2 biggest carriers. The airport is probably most famous for the faucets where you can get dashi (soup stock) for udon. Try it!

This airport was as small as expected. It mainly served domestic flights, plus a few international flights. Therefore, the terminal was not so busy all the time. When I arrived there by plane, it took about an hour for the customs clearance. At that time, the number of passengers from the plane was about 180. Two counters were operating, and only one or two officers could speak some English. Airplanes could park by the terminal and connected by a covered footbridge. Luggage was not damaged, which sounded good. There were several eateries and souvenir shops. Toilets were clean. Since udon was made in this province, I chose to eat in one noodle shop on the second floor. The quality was fine. But beware of the business hours because the lunch serving time was finished early. The staff in the souvenir shops were friendly. There were car rental representatives on duty in their respective counter, who led their customers to the shuttle van because all car rental companies were located in the surrounding area. A theme park was built adjacent to the airport.

*This is a review for the domestic terminal only* Takamatsu is a compact airport. 2 floors and only a few shops. I used the domestic terminal and I wasn’t especially impressed with the organization or facilities available. Compared with other small sized airports in Japan it seems a little dated and poorly maintained. The security checked was very disorganized and it seemed that the staff were a little overwhelmed on a busy Friday afternoon (JAL, ANA and Jet Star all had flights leaving). There were many people standing as there clearly isn’t enough seating for the volume of passengers. Finally, once you are airside there are only 2 small kiosks for food, drink and souvenirs. So make sure the eat, drink and shop before heading through security.
