Hanamiyama Park

Mentioned on
3 lists
Park
Nature & Parks
Hanamiyama Park is a picturesque suburban mountain park famous for its vibrant seasonal floral displays and stunning sakura cherry blossoms. Located in Fukushima, the park offers breathtaking landscapes during spring and autumn. Visitors can explore the easy mountain paths adorned with pink plum and cherry blossoms while enjoying views of snow-covered mountains in the distance. Additionally, the park features various flower varieties, making it an enjoyable destination throughout spring and summer. Shuttle buses are available from Fukushima Station to reach the park easily.
Date of enjoyment: 12/4/25 Came here on a weekend and it was madness, but organised chaos. We can’t park in the usual car parks, we had to go to another carpark ( free of charge) which is well directed and signed, then pay for a ticket 500 yen and catch a bus to visit hanamiyama park from the car park which is a short 10min bus ride. Do come early and once you arrive at the park, the walk towards all the plantations is stunning and it’s all maintained by locals. There were heaps of varieties of Sakura and they were in full bloom, truly a stunning sight and hayfever at its max. We decided to walk the longest trek which took roughly 60mins and rewarded with the view at the mountain top of Fukushima city. The walk back down the hill was also pleasant and there was a matsuri food stalls at the end of it all, you can spend about 2-3 hours at this venue which is great value for a 500yen ticket.

Nice park. Free entry. Was under maintenance during my visit. The coloured tracks are easy to follow, but if you head off towards the "observatory" you'll likely not see much else. I walked for a couple of hours following poorly marked signed which lead nowhere in particular. Nice and peaceful, but with a lot of tree cover blocking most of the views.
Jesse T — Google review
There are not many flowers in the summer time. But tree trails and the chirping cicadas makes u embrace the natural environment. Three are 30, 45, 60 mins courses. We took the 60 one. It’s easy to walk. But seems not well maintained, may cause by the off season.
C J — Google review
We visited on a rainy day but the rain cleared and we got to see all the wonderful blossoms (16th April). We did the 60 minute walking loop, there is a 30 and a 45 minute loop too. I enjoyed the 60 minute loop as you get a beautiful view from the top of the hill. As it was a rainy day it was not busy, but I can imagine it gets very busy.
Lily G — Google review
Amazing place! There are several varieties of flowers beyond cherry blossoms, so the park can be enjoyed throughout a long time during spring (also summer when it's hydrangea season). Since the name of the park suggests it is a mountain, so expect some hiking. The walk to the summit may take around one hour (a bit longer if you stop to admire the flowers and take some pictures). The view from the top is really nice. You're able to appreciate Fukushima city from above while surrounded by flowers. No fees are needed to enter the park. Went there on the 6th of April 2024.
A R — Google review
I went there during the full cherry blossom bloom on April 10, 2025. I spent half a day there, and it was bursting with vibrant colors—not just pink! Highly recommended!
Putida P — Google review
Visited on Tuesday 8 April 2025. Beautiful weather in the morning for the astounding views. We did the 60min course which was not a problem for those without walking issues. Only one slightly short steep slope downhill towards the last part. They had some walking poles at the start of the course. There was quite a Q at the bus stop. So since there were 3 of us, we took a taxi (¥1800 per trip) from the Fukushima East exit. We showed them the pamphlet which we took from the Tourist Office at Fukushima station. The bus is ¥500 return. It was full bloom during our visit. Praise the Lord.
Lee E — Google review
Really enjoyed the park and festivities. Quite crowded. However there is a hill to the left when looking at hanamiyama that has just as many if not more flowers and less crowds. Enjoyed that more even though both were great. Parking was really far away and you’re charged 500¥ pp for the return bus but it was well organised and caused little delay. Expected with crowds

Fukushima Station

Mentioned on
3 lists
Train station
Fukushima Station is a must-visit for train enthusiasts due to several reasons. As a minor station, about half of the Shinkansen trains pass through at full speed, providing an exhilarating experience akin to a fighter jet fly-by, especially when observed from the platform, with nighttime being the ideal time for this spectacle. It is also located in the only part of the entire Shinkansen network with a maximum 320 km/h speed limit.
We arrived at Fukushima Sataion with Yamagata Shinkansen, stayed for few hours to look around, then took Tohoku Shinkansen back to Sendai.
Jack L — Google review
Between mountains and orchards, Fukushima breathes — sweet with peaches, resilient beneath clear skies. The Tōhoku Main Line passes softly, carrying both memory and renewal. Tourist Tip: Transfer to Ou and Iizaka Lines. Visit hot springs, fruit orchards, and Hanamiyama Park in spring. City of quiet hospitality and perseverance.
Stray L — Google review
Just be aware that there is 3 part to Fukushima station. The Shinkansen, and two different local lines. I was going to go Iizaka onsen, but didn't realise there was a third part to the station - The Fukushima Transportation Iizaka line. And then even there there is two different ticketing box. Make sure you get the right one! Very confusing, but thank god for the internet
Bobby P — Google review
Decent station to catch other lines for out into central Japan. Now go find these small stations I posted pictures of out there. Enjoy the country and the people. So calm from noisy Tokyo.
D. D — Google review
Three reasons Fukushima Station is Japan's gift to trainspotters: 1) Fukushima is a minor station so around half of Shinkansens pass through at full speed. Viewing from the platform is an absolute rush, akin to a fighter jet fly-by, the infrastructure surrounding the station dramatically amplifies the noise creating a tsunami of sound. 2) The station is situated within the only part of the entire Shinkansen network (between Utsunomiya and Morioka) that currently has the maximum 320 km/h speed limit. 3) There's a small mountain about 1 km North of the station which the Shinkansen line passes through. On it, there is a natural observation point almost directly above the track that gives you a perfect aerial view of the Shinkansens. It's an easy 1-hour hike (maximum) from the station and the view of the city in general is tremendous (worth the walk in itself). Navigate to 'Karasugasaki Observation Deck'. Note, there is a short pre-recorded announcement on the platform that precedes each Shinkansen that's passing through (it is repeated several times, so you get plenty of warning). It's in Japanese only and roughly translates to "Please be careful as the inbound train will pass soon". These announcements are East/West platform-specific based on the closest express track to that platform, this lets you determine which direction the Shinkansen is coming from. As a rule, if you hear the announcement come from the platform you are on look right. If you hear the announcement come from the other side look left. The are a number of other stations in the network where you can catch a fly-by but none are as uniquely featured as Fukushima, it is truly the gem of the crown. Happy trainspotting, you won't regret it!
Ben H — Google review
Nice station, it was renewed for the 2020 Olympics so it’s very pretty on the outside too. There is a tunnel beneath the station if you need to cross from the east to west side without entering the ticket gates. Free 30 minute parking and drop off area on the west side perfect for cars. The east side does not have an area for cars to pull over!!

Volcanoes
Mount Azuma-kofuji is a popular 1,705-meter-high mountain in Fukushima known for its central crater and stunning panoramic views. Every spring, as the snow melts, it leaves behind the shape of a giant white rabbit on the mountainside, signaling the start of the farming season. The mountain's appealing symmetry and soft conical shape earned it the name Kofuji, meaning 'little Fuji'.
Check the best time for autumn leaves, and you may want to visit around noon where the fog and clouds clear up. The trek up to and around the volcano is a bit difficult, assess your physical ability before attempting the hike.
M N — Google review
Parked at the bottom of the crater and walked up, around and back down took us around 1.5 hours for a casual hike. Parking fee was Y500. Totally worth it for stunning views from the top of the crater.
Ryan P — Google review
What an amazing view!🌋 You can reach the summit around 10 minutes via stairs and walk around creter around 40 minutes. Very windy and thrilling spot, its worth to go! Don’t forget to wear proper shoes. 🥾
Hongen — Google review
Very beautiful view from the top of volcano. I suggest to walk up the volcano from the left side and walk down to the right side is less slippery. I walked around 1 hour include taking photo
Preaw F — Google review
While in Fukushima, I was recommended to head up mount Azuma-kofuji to enjoy the view. So come the morning, I begin my ascent and instantly was met with fantastic views as I Drove up. Each 300 meters was another great photo spot and view of the area below. Once I reached the resting area at the top, I was greeted with more great views and a fun souvenir shop that second as an educational building. It was a great experience visiting but next time I will need to prepare as the sulfur smell from the active funnels was everywhere below the summit.
Stash P — Google review
So beautiful!!!! There’s paid parking that cost 500 yen for the day. The drive up was gorgeous and once you get there, make sure you climb the steps up to the crater and walk all around the rim. It’s a spectacular view and a once in a lifetime experience that shouldn’t be missed. There is a restaurant and gift shop inside the main building along with toilets both inside and out. We found it easier to go up the left side of the crater and come down the right side and the slope on the right is milder.
Danielle M — Google review
Great place for hiking and viewing. The road as well as the parking place can get really crowded in high season. Came back for moon-lit night photography due to the popularity of this spot.
Tokyoshot T — Google review
Great intermediate hike. I don’t recommend for first time hikers to solo but you’ll be fine in a group with experienced hikers. You don’t need expensive gear to make it to the top but nice boots and crampons wouldn’t hurt. The views from the top are worth the sweat.

The Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art, situated at the base of Mt. Shinobu in Fukushima City, showcases a diverse collection of over 2,000 art pieces. The museum features works by renowned artists such as Itō Jakuchū and Picasso alongside local talents like Shoji Sekine and Kiyoshi Saito.
I was amazed by this gallery and its collection. We visited when they had the extremely impressive Kawase Hasui exhibition on ukiyo-e, Japan's unique style of woodblock printing/painting. Worth the entry fee to see.

Beautiful grounds but tourists beware, check the website to make sure it's open before you travel here. We found out the hard way the entire gallery was closed for a month due to installation of new displays. As of right now it is closed till October 11th 2024. Hope to return again.
Dawn C — Google review
We went to see the Friday road show from Ghibli and it was fantastic. The museum is super easy to access by train, and inside it's huge. Very nice place and wonderful event.
Koly8 — Google review
Beautiful museum. There is only the permanent exhibit at the moment so it takes maybe 30-45 minutes to see everything but the ticket for that part is only ¥280. There are coin lockers where you get your ¥100 back after. I will say though it was weirdly hot inside the museum. Also you can't take pictures inside the exhibit, only in the hall.
Sophie K — Google review
Was recommended by the hotel i was stay9ng at. They currently have an exhibition of Japanese wooden block prints. Fascinating stuff.
Shadow W — Google review
Small but unique and lovely permanent exhibition. 280 yen. We were the only two people in the gallery during our visit. Phones are not permitted (regardless of whether you're taking photos) except with a special armband if you need to translate hirigani by handwriting. The permanent exhibition can be completed in about 35 to 40 minutes. The museum has an excellent curry restaurant next to it.
William C — Google review
Beautiful architecture, with a neo-zen vibe. The regular collection houses a Monet, a Pissaro, and several Chagall paintings.
Eugene W — Google review
Mostly works by local artists from Fukushima prefecture, and lots of interesting pieces to see. Not a large place. I looked at every piece and was finished in under an hour, then went next door to check out the prefectural library.

Iizaka Onsen Hakoyu

Mentioned on
2 lists
Day-use onsen
Day spa
Iizaka Onsen Hakoyu is a charming and cozy hot spring bath located in Fukushima, Japan. The facility offers a pleasant interior with ample lockers, although the dressing area may be a bit narrow. It's worth noting that body soap may not be provided, as it is a public bath rather than an onsen. The onsen features both warm and hot water pools for visitors to enjoy.
My affinity for Iizaka Onsen Hakoyu is boundless. I’ve been here numerous times and it is always a sublime joy. It’s not a large onsen with a lot of frills but its simplicity is its charm. Buttressed against the river it has a lovely views before entering. It’s only costs 300¥ which is a bargain. And if you have tattoos, that is not an issue. If in Fukushima and in Izaka, come here for a lovely bath.
Filmsnoir ( — Google review
I visited on Jan 10 2025 and it’s was somewhat an uncomfortable and eerie experience to me. So as I went downstairs I went to the receptioniste, when I handed her the ticket included in the day pass, she appeared to be unhappy. I’m unsure what might have caused this. But she helped me with the hair band part so I guess it shouldn’t be a big deal. However, when I’m taking of my clothes an old Japanese woman got close to me and started to talk to me, I didn’t think too much at first. But then as I proceed to the bath, she gets closer and closer and asked me more unnecessary questions. I told her I don’t speak Japanese as it’s getting kinda over the line, she then started to say some not very nice words to me. I heard them (she and other customers) made hostile comments on me and I felt unsafe around them so I left. Just saying if ur non-local this place might not be friendly, it’s too dangerous to go alone💀The onsen was alright, not particularly good or bad.
Misa W — Google review
Quite nice. Very hot. Nice view outside
Ulrik S — Google review
This was the first time I went to a public bath. It has a nice interior, many lockers, although the aisle next to them is narrow and it's difficult to dress up standing there. It's good to note that they don't have body soap - probably because it's a public bath and not an onsen. I don't think that it's a rule but the onsens I have been so far usually had body soap and shampoo. The water pool is big enough and they have a warm and a hot one.
Tamaki O — Google review
Small and relaxing onsen to use. Using the ticket machine, insert your money first and then push the correct button(s).

Nature & Parks
Azuma Sports Park Gingko Trees, located in Minka-en, is a picturesque spot with a long tree-lined road adorned with ginkgo trees. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant yellow carpet created by the leaves during autumn. The park offers ample parking and is popular among couples and families for capturing the beauty of the changing foliage. Additionally, it's an ideal place for outdoor activities such as running due to its well-maintained and spacious surroundings.
We just passed by here and it was nice even if we come late for the gingko trees. They also have lights for the gingko trees in night time.
Sakurako S — Google review
Have lights in night time. A must go in fukushima during gingko trees season! Although we came late but it's still good!
Sakurako S — Google review
I'm planning to go back there this year (2022), but seeing the updated photos of the park with too many kiosks is a big turn-off. The beautiful view of the place has been destroyed by the many kiosks. The good thing is that we were able to visit this place in 2021 when there were no kiosks. Going somewhere else this autumn instead.

Fudosawa Bridge offers a stunning 360-degree view, especially during the autumn season when the yellow leaves create an incredible sight. Despite the challenging drive due to foggy conditions, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking scenery. However, be prepared for numerous flies in the parking area and near the bridge. The restroom facilities may not be well-maintained, but the beauty of the bridge and its surroundings make it a worthwhile stop for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
This is beautiful. I want to come again and again ❤️❤️
Fahad M — Google review
It was an incredible foggy afternoon! Yea mid afternoon! The drive up was tough with visibility up to or less than 10-15m! We actually almost missed the bridge in the fog. The down side to this - of course not much to see of the valley but the flies!!!! The numerous amount of flies from the parking area (next to the restroom that probably never gets cleaned as it was very smelly too). The flies even ‘attacks’ you all the way to the bridge. Had to quickly take the picture and get out. Pull out the mask take the pic and put the mask or the hoodie back on. That took away the pleasantness of just hanging around to try to enjoy the foggy scenary. Was the fog caused by the many Onsen’s along the way at the bottom or mid mountain roads? Dunno. Quite a contrast to the clear beautiful pictures taken by others.

Mountains
Mount Shinobu is a city-center mountain in Japan, known for its Buddhist temples and the stunning cherry blossoms that bloom in mid-April. The area around Fukushima Gokoku Shrine is illuminated at night during spring, creating a magical atmosphere. The mountain is also home to the Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art, which beautifully complements the natural surroundings. Despite its moderate height of 200-300 meters, climbing Mount Shinobu can be challenging due to its ups and downs.
It's not too high, being between 200-300 meters, but climbing up can be tough. You should go in good shoes, although almost all the roads has concrete on them, so it's not a difficult hiking if you go in a comfortable pace. There are many shrines and temples here and there so you can find a new goal at every roads. It gives a good view of the city and the nearby mountains as well.

(Translated by Google) It's been a long time since I've climbed a mountain. Since I had some free time, I climbed Mt. Shinobu thinking it was a low-altitude mountain, but there were quite a few ups and downs. Since it's located in a town, I thought it was a mountain that had been touched by many people. There are many shrines, and people pray for the health and happiness of their families here and there. The theme song for Totoro is said to be set on Mt. Shinobu, and Totoro is likely to be found on this mountain. The cover photo seemed to be the scene of Satsuki and Mei leaving their house, so I couldn't help but take a photo. I was walking in the mountains, and it was a place that made me feel nostalgic. I don't know much about horse racing, so I learned that the horses don't always race, but on days when there are no races at Fukushima Racecourse, parking costs 500 yen, but admission is free. On race days, it seems that the first parking lot is so crowded that you can't park there. It seems that there is also an admission fee. It was my first time buying a betting ticket myself, and it was fun because you fill out the form yourself, like a lottery ticket like Lotto 6. Unlike the lottery, the pace is good, with the results being known in just a few minutes. Even if you don't buy a ticket, if you go through the underground passage and go near the center of the venue, you'll find a rose garden and a children's play area, so it's a space that even children and people who aren't interested in horse racing can enjoy✨ I'd like to come again😊 (Original)

Gyoza Terui

$$$$affordable
Ramen restaurant
Gyoza Terui, located in Iizaka Onsen, is renowned for its enban dumplings. The main store is often crowded, with long wait times of over 30 minutes due to its popularity. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food delicious, making it worth the wait. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes including stir-fried hormones and different types of ramen such as green onion miso ramen and Ajitama miso ramen.
I only had the gyozas and some Japanese sake from the area, but the gyoza were crunchy and tasty. The staff is kind and very welcome. It's a popular place so you will probably need to write your name in the waiting list in front of the shop.
Hedvig K — Google review
The famous Fukushima Enban Gyoza was worth the wait. The place is really popular so we had to stand in line for at least 30-40 minutes before we were seated. If you in Japan, you know a place is really popular when the queue is already long before the place has even opened shop. The service is quick and the gyoza were crunchy and delicious. The store offers beer and sake. Beer and gyoza is always a great combination. Must visit if you are in Fukushima.
Rimsha B — Google review
They have amazing gyoza and the best foot bath in Iizaka!

(Translated by Google) It was my first time eating disk gyoza. They were crispy and a new texture I'd never experienced before with gyoza, so I ate them up in no time. The stir-fried offal and vegetables was also super tasty. It was a shame that rice wasn't on the menu, as the flavor goes so well with it. Since I was having dinner here, it was the right choice to choose the hot springs breakfast-only plan. I'd like to go again.

(Translated by Google) This is the main branch of Gyoza Terui, located near Fukushima Station. I stopped by on my way to Iizaka Onsen. It was 7:30pm on a public holiday, and I was able to get in after about a 20-minute wait. I wanted to order their famous round gyoza, but I wasn't all that hungry, so I was a little hesitant and ordered half a plate. When it arrived, each one was very small, and the half circle disappeared in an instant. I regret not having ordered just one plate from the start. It was delicious. The flavor was very light, probably due to the large amount of vegetables. The gyoza are half-fried and are certainly delicious. They mainly serve ramen and gyoza, but since it's an izakaya, the turnover is slow. The portions are also somehow limited. I can see why there's always a line. If you don't have to wait in line, this is a great place, but if you're willing to wait in line, you might be better off choosing another restaurant. Marushin Ramen Ekimae

$$$$affordable
Ramen restaurant
Marushin Ramen Ekimae is a beloved ramen spot in Fukushima, known for its delicious ramen and sensational gyoza. The soy sauce-based soup pairs perfectly with the curly noodles, a famous style in the Tohoku area. The ramen is generously topped with roasted pork, creating a flavorful and satisfying dish. Visitors also praise the warm hospitality from Genghis, who adds to the welcoming atmosphere of the establishment.
Very small restaurant with “just” ramen - but very good and tasty. And the owners are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it very much. Interior is simply but matching the impression of the place. Go there!
Bernd M — Google review
I needed to stop by Fukushima for a quick dinner. Because it was January 2nd and most places were closed, I had to look for quite a while before I was able to find this place, which happened to be open. Let me get down the good points first. The noodle was fantastic: very chewy and likely hand made. The stock was pretty good too. The service and atmosphere were decent, more or less what you expect from a family run ramen shop with an open kitchen. I was not super happy that the chasu on my plate was from a plastic container that sat at room temperature. While they were neatly placed on my plate, it was not hot like the noodles, and the taste was mediocre. I would recommend passing on the extra protein and only getting the noodles.
Fan Z — Google review
Ramen is covered by tons of roasted pork. Soy sauce based soup, curly noodle is matched with soup as this type of noodle is famous in Tohoku area.

Overpriced dirty, rusty, smelly and unappetizing restaurant. Your stomach does not hurt after consuming it but you do not feel satisfied. The owner is somewhat friendly. Overall, just an edible meal for a desperate man.

Dateya

$$$$affordable
Ramen restaurant
Dateya is a cozy ramen shop owned by a married couple, which creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The small staff ensures attentive and kind service, although the wait times can be long due to the limited personnel. Despite the few menu options, the base soup is highly recommended for its delicious flavor. The delicate noodles and expertly crafted broth make Dateya a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts looking for an authentic dining experience.
This ramen restaurant has high reviews and is highly regarded in Japan. These reviews are honest and the restaurant deserves this praise. One of the finest ramen I've tried in my many trips to Japan. Run by a husband and wife team. We came on a weekday and put our names down on the waiting list at around 8:30am and came back around 11am. There were 17 people ahead of us. The restaurant has seating for a maximum of 17 people but they don't completely fill the place and people aren't crammed in. The hostess creates space between people which is appreciated. Waited for 25 minutes and was then greeted by our hostess. After paying we experienced true Japanese hospitality where she walked us to the door and bowed and thanked us.
Warren B — Google review
We decided to stop for lunch in Fukushima and came across Dateya Ramen, which is highly recommended as a must-try spot. As expected, there was a wait—nearly an hour to get in—but that’s a testament to its popularity. The shop is small, run solely by an elderly couple, so they can only accommodate a few customers at a time. The cozy, traditional atmosphere added to the charm. We ordered their signature char siu ramen, and it didn’t disappoint. The portions of char siu were generous, and the meat was incredibly tender, practically melting in your mouth. As a ramen enthusiast, I was hoping for a bit more richness in the broth, but the exceptional char siu more than made up for it. Parking is available but limited, with space for just a few cars. Overall, Dateya Ramen is a delightful local gem. If you’re in the area and don’t mind waiting, it’s worth the stop to enjoy their standout char siu.

Be prepared for long queue. Inside have 17 seats but not all seats can be seated. We waited for 2 hours to eat the ramen but I think it was all worth it! Super clean soup base and meat was super soft and yummy! But was greeted by the elderly couple that serve with their heart. Love it ❤️
Kevel Z — Google review
A very small, cute ramen shop run by an elderly couple. Only Japanese, no English menu. The ramen was fantastic and even though we waited for about 35 minutes even past 1:00pm, it was worth it!
Ashley Z — Google review
Good ramen. I like the soup and grilled pork (チャーシュー) A married couple own this place, so the staff are only 2 people. The way they speak is so kind and thoughtful enough.

We endured the ultimate test of patience – a 1.5-hour line – and were finally granted access to this modest yet charming eatery, complete with swift service and an unsettling silence. But, boy, was the ramen worth it.
Art I — Google review
I assume it’s only the couple who run the store so waiting takes long time just to get in. There are few choices in the menu but the base soup was really good!

Yamame

Dumpling restaurant
Izakaya restaurant
Yamame is a well-established and unpretentious eatery that specializes in dumplings, particularly the emban (disc-shaped) gyoza. Alongside their delicious dumplings, they also offer seafood side dishes, tsukemono, and sake. During peak times, there may be a wait for a table and limited exclusive parking available. However, the homemade taste of the gyoza with its thin wrapper and non-greasy texture makes it worth the visit.

A classic izakaya-style spot popular with locals! This gyoza is a Fukushima specialty and we just had to try it! The gyoza were as expected, crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside! Perfect with cold sparkling drinks, too bad we don’t drink beer haha! We also ordered karaage which was equally delectable. Loved the place, the food, and the service!
Clar A — Google review
Came here for gyoza, wasn't disappointed but make sure you grab a good timing, as it is also a drinking place and also small, might wait ages for seats too. I feel like upstairs can be better optimised. But gyoza and karaage is good, Saba is ok. Good value.
Jeremy T — Google review
Disappointed experience in this restaurant, not recommend! On the day we visited, my friends and I were guided to the second floor space, very small and noisy. The space can only accommodate four tables and three of them were all seated by old men and young men. They keep drinking, talking and laughing very very loudly. My friends and I cannot hear and talk to each other because of the noise. We have asked the owner if it is possible to change to another vacant table but we’re refused, without clear explanation. It seems like these men visit this restaurant frequently and the owner did not treat other customers with manner. Food is not bad, but sad atmosphere and service.
晴晴 — Google review
Emban (disc shaped) gyoza is its specialty. You can enjoy other wellknown food like tsukemono or sake here. Please be noted that: 1) you may have to wait in a que for 1 hour till getting to a table in holiday season, and 2) it has limited number of exclusive parking lots so you may have to park at charged parking. Other than those, everything is all right.

The salad bar had a fair amount of items, and the drink bar was standard. I would like to visit the store again when I am nearby. (Translated by Google) An Italian restaurant on the first floor of a building next to Fukushima Station. It's a spacious space with a grown-up feel, and there's plenty of space between the seats, so you don't have to worry about your surroundings. Apparently there are private rooms as well. I used it for lunch, and the main dish comes with a salad bar and a drink bar, and it costs around 1,000 yen. I had a problem with the lack of options on the lunch menu, but the taste was decent. I had a good impression of the store clerk, who had a nice smile and was elegant. It seems like it can be used by a large number of people, so it might be a good place for wedding after-parties.

The store manager is also very kind and likable with detailed explanations. I've used them many times, and the customer service is amazing, so I'd like to come back again and again. The food is also really delicious.

Urota Homemade Noodles

$$$$affordable
Ramen restaurant
Urota Homemade Noodles is a popular ramen restaurant located about an 8-minute walk from Fukushima Station, known for its unique and innovative take on traditional Japanese ramen. The menu offers a variety of options, including Italian-style ramen with olive oil and basil leaves, as well as the limited quantity "Concrete Noodle" characterized by its thick, muddy black soup stock. The restaurant is often crowded, so it's recommended to visit during opening time to avoid long queues.
"Urota" located about an 8-minute walk from Fukushima Station. Fukushima is famous for its ramen, and Urota is one of the most famous ramen restaurants in Fukushima. I had been wanting to go there for a long time, so I fulfilled my long-cherished wish to visit the restaurant. I ordered "Concrete Noodle (¥850)", a limited quantity ramen. This ramen is characterized by the fact that the dried soup stock is so thick that it has turned muddy black color. When it is actually brought to you, you will be overwhelmed by its impact. The soup is thick and really thick... One sip will fill your mouth with a deep flavor, as if you have taken a bite of niboshi (dried sardines). The finely chopped onions are a refreshing and just right accent. You can also enjoy a refreshing and slightly different flavor by pouring on the niboshi vinegar, vinegar infused with the broth of dried sardines. It was quite delicious. The restaurant is so clean and spacious that it is hard to believe it is a ramen shop, so I recommend going there with girls. If you are ever in Fukushima, please visit this restaurant..

It’s famous in fukushima prov. A lot of people order torisoba with shouyu. Maby it’s a signature of this restaurant? I ordered tsukesoba and I think I do like it more than torisoba with shoyu. It’s different taste. Torisoba shoyu will come with a light flavor and a thin noodle. It’s really easy to eat. For tsukesoba the flavor gonna be like sweet and a bit salty and a little bit savory. Not too strong since it doesn’t put in noodles directly. I do prefer tsukesoba tho! If you are around here, i do recommend this place as well
Piraya M — Google review
They have a different menu for lunch and dinner. I wanted to try out the concrete ramen but unfortunately they only serve it during lunch. So I had the tsukemen, which was good. The noodles were more like udon noodles. The ambience was also good.

Good flavor and broth, my first time having karasumi ramen! The thinly sliced chashu and menma were also fun!

Normal size was very big! Ramen was very tasty and rich in flavour.

You can enjoy new style of ramen here. When I last time visited, I chose Italian style ramen which had olive oil in the broth and basil leaves on the top. When the ramen was served in front of me, honestly I was wondering if it would be wonderful but of course, It was so good. They know how to match western ingredients to Japanese ramen. This ramen shop is always crowded and in most cases you have to be in a queue for maybe 20 minutes. I strongly recommend you visiting the shop at 11:00, opening time.

I don't say this lightly: one of the best ramens I've eaten in Japan. Worth the lone at the door.

Gyoza Kaikan

$$$$cheap
Ramen restaurant
Gyoza Kaikan is a small local restaurant with less than 20 seats at the counter, offering a cozy and authentic dining experience. The kitchen is open, allowing diners to observe every step of the cooking process. While there's no English menu, patrons can use Google Translate to navigate the menu displayed above their heads. The drink menu is conveniently located on the wall of the kitchen.
Run by an old couple, serves the best gyoza and ramen. Loved it so much that we ordered again inspite of being full. They give a combination of soya sauce and garlic paste with gyoza which is the best. Lot of regular local people visit here and it’s quite close to the train station. The only uncomfortable this was that the old man was a bit grumpy. But the lady was nice which made up for it.
Hanupya N — Google review
A well known local Chinese restaurant that is mainly regarded for its gyoza dumplings. The food is unquestionably delicious, and it’s not rare to see a long line forming up in the late evening. The atmosphere of the restaurant is retrospective with the counter tables around the kitchen. The owner couple manages the restaurant with teamwork; the friendly and outspoken lady helps the customers directly while the chef works on the dishes almost stoically.

We had the ramen. The broth was rich, and the pork was falling apart tender. The noodles absorbed the taste of the broth very well.
Cora W — Google review
The shoyu ramen is the best. The food is delicious. The store just needs a little spring cleaning and the owner needs to Smile a little more than he did hence the deduction of one star.
虫でんでん — Google review
We came in around the end of the night and got to experience the two chefs timing out our meals impeccably. We ordered two orders of gyoza and a chashu ramen and both were ready at the exact same time. The couple have clearly been working in tandem for decades now and the resulting meal was incredible. The pan fried gyoza were crisp on their side yet melted in my mouth, and the chashu ramen burst with flavor. The venue itself is a very humble bar and was a very relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Eric M — Google review
Great place to eat authentic Japanese’s handmade food. Few dishes but absolutely amazing and super tasty, you can see making in front of you gyoza from scratch.
Sasha C — Google review
Good ramen with friendly service. Close to the JR Station
Vincent W — Google review
For more than a decade, this has been my go-to place for gyoza dumplings. My usual order is a plate of gyoza, a side of garnished wakame seaweed, and a glass of sake. Most patrons seem to prefer beer with their gyoza, and Kirin is served here, draft or by the bottle. But all the sake is from Fukushima (various breweries), and even the lowest price Eisen tokujōshu (my usual choice) is delicious. I'm not much of a ramen noodle eater, but the chashū pork that accompanies some noodle dishes is outstanding, and I've enjoyed it as a side dish.

Sendai Airport is the gateway to Northeastern Japan and conveniently located on a train line to Sendai. The city offers more than just a quick stopover, with its rich samurai history, resilience, harmony with nature, shopping and dining options, nightlife attractions, and walkable city center. The Tohoku Shinkansen bullet train connects Sendai to Tokyo Station and Shin-Aomori Station, making it easily accessible for travelers.
A small airport. Easy to navigate. Trains and buses to various destinations available. I took a direct bus from Zao Ski resort. Storage lockers are limited.

Sendai Airport A compact airport where you hardly need to walk after passing through the security gate, as the departure gates are close by. The airport is directly connected to the train system, allowing you to reach Sendai Station in about 20 minutes. Trains run approximately every 30 minutes, so you can expect to get to Sendai Station within an hour. There is also an ANA-affiliated lounge available. December 2024.

A medium-sized international airport that forms the core of the Tohoku region. It is conveniently located, including access by train from the center of Sendai. Inside the airport, the Aero Subaru FA-200 single-engine aircraft, which was once produced by Subaru, is on display.

A nice and small airport. It is relatively to access from the Sendai Station to the airport by train (taking about 20~30 minutes of train). It is quite clean and bright. The stores here are quite nice and offers a variety of goods. The restaurants are also quite good with reasonable price. International and domestic flights are available.

Small but nice airport. There are gifts and snacks for sale inside and outside the security checks. It’s never been crowded the times I’ve been here. Today I got to see fun lights on the free rooftop observation deck. Check it out if you have a moment before going through the security checks. I’ve flown to and from this airport with Peach, Skymark, and ANA.

(Translated by Google) Flights departing and arriving at Fukushima Airport exceeded 80%. Tigerair Taiwan direct flight 🐅 I was surprised at how crowded it was. A direct flight with four nights included starting at ¥45,000 is cheap, and although it cost ¥10,000 for a three-hour round-trip highway toll plus gas, I was intrigued and gave it a try. Perhaps it's the tropical island culture of Taiwanese people, few people get up when the boarding announcement is made, and both takeoffs and landings are delayed by 30 minutes. Departure was smooth despite the line, but upon returning, immigration was handled by several staff members on the Taiwanese side, while only one person handled the Japanese side. There were less than 10 Japanese people in line, but it was slow and we couldn't get in. They said it was intensive immigration month, but customs was quite a hassle. The opening and closing times are convenient, so I think it's a good idea to split the highway and gas costs and go with multiple friends without worrying about time. Plus, the round-trip ticket was only 33,000 yen, so it could easily be used for traveling around Asia with a Taiwan transit. The airport staff and Fukushima residents are kind and helpful. As an Ultraman fan, I was really happy to see Ultra Airport. (I wish they'd bring in a designer and put more effort into it!♡) Apparently, the name comes from the fact that director Eiji Tsuburaya was from Sukagawa City, and the city established a sister city relationship with the Land of Light in the M78 Nebula. The convenience store has a wide selection of local Fukushima sake. Perhaps it's because of the Fukushima people's character, but there are a lot of delicious drinks.

(Translated by Google) The airport is small, but it has everything you need. Car rental is convenient. Souvenirs are also available. The duty-free area is connected to the boarding gate, so you can buy cigarettes and alcohol. The first floor has many Superman displays for photos, and there are also some souvenirs for sale. The second floor has a wide selection of famous Fukushima souvenirs. It's a good idea to buy them before your departure, rather than in the city, as some items are only available for a short time. The third floor is the apron viewing platform, but since there are only five domestic flights a day, there are no planes to see!

Small but Practical Airport, I arrived from Hokkaido and conveniently stayed one block away from Sakurambo-higashine Station. The down side to this airport is the lack of connection to the nearest train station which is Jimmachi Station, so taxi is required to leave the airport (unless you reserve bus shuttle), taxi ride is short thou, so no mayor cost impact to your wallet :) Airport services were decent.
