Zoos & Aquariums
The Virginia Living Museum is a must-visit destination, offering an immersive experience that combines a botanical garden, animal sanctuary, aquarium, science center, and nature park. It showcases the diverse fauna and flora of Virginia through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages. Visitors can explore habitats housing red wolves, otters, bobcats, bald eagles, and other wildlife. The museum also features a Butterfly Garden, Conservation Garden, Green Living House with native plants from Virginia.
The parking is fantastic. The customer service both online and at the front desk is phenomenal. My kids were thrilled and enjoyed every aspect of this museum. I love the flow of their exhibits. Regardless if there are school field trips or Earth day celebrations during spring break, this museum handles large crowds of people very well and effortlessly. The dinosaur park and adventure is a well worth the museum visit alone.
Darrell R — Google review
It was a unique experience, kind of half zoo/aquarium, half nature trail. A few of the animals were not on display and there wasnt a wide variety of animals. If you have AAA, you get a $1 discount. Overall the animals looked happy and healthy, the exhibits were nice and the staff were good about putting up enrichment activities for the animals. Great for young kids, but you can see everything in an hour. Unless you also do the planetarium which was only open Thur-Sun. I went on Tuesday. No crowds early in the morning, but during the summer lots of summer camp kiddos. Overall, it was neat, but I wouldn't make a trip just for this museum/zoo/aquarium. It had a really cool dino area though with fossils and stuff.
Leanne H — Google review
My family had a blast at the Virginia Living Museum! It was so fun to walk the boardwalk and see animals native to Virginia. We also got to watch an otter feeding and learn about otters. I thought the dinosaur section would be camp-y but was surprised to find real fossils displayed in little cabins there. My two-year-old loved seeing the dinosaur replicas, of course. We will definitely visit again!
Maria W — Google review
Loved all of the interactive exhibits here, they were fascinating. My family and I were particularly entranced by a sand pit that had a projected topography that changed depending on the hills and valleys we created in the sand. Great place to take children, wonderful indoor exhibits and a fantastic outdoor trail that was fun and inspiring. My family and I got through the entire building and nature trail in about three hours without rushing past interesting signage.
Rebecca K — Google review
I hadn't visited this museum for many many years. Took my grandkids here and my daughter and we had an absolute ball. The current traveling exhibit is dinosaurs, and what they had was amazing. Lots of hands-on activities, and lots of great information, the kids were in heaven. The otter was adorable and we made it to the feeding which was quite a treat. The exhibits are all outstanding and the staff was very friendly and informative.
Leslie J — Google review
Been making memories here since I was a kid and recently visited while vacationing in my hometown. The staff loves what they do and it shows. The animal husbandry is better than most zoological facilities. And I love that it focuses on educating on local wildlife! The otter was definitely the star of the show though 🦋🦦
Kelsey W — Google review
A nice museum, it is wonderful for families and groups. Different exhibits and such. I have some gripes. One being it is over 20$ for those 13 and older. It is pretty pricey compared to what is offered. Still nice to go. They do have penny machines that flatten a penny into a collectible costs 1$ though.
Nicholas D — Google review
We have had a membership for over 5 years now. This is hands down one of our favorite places to visit over and over. Even before we had children, my husband and I always had a fantastic time visiting. With children and it's obviously such a great place to go and explore. Every time you're there, there's always a hidden corner to find a new activity to keep the kids busy. Nora is a favorite of ours, but all of the animals have a special place in our heart.

Military Museums
Nestled in Huntington Park Beach, the Virginia War Museum is a treasure trove for anyone interested in American military history. This fascinating museum showcases an extensive collection of over 65,000 artifacts that span from 1775 to today. Visitors can explore a diverse array of exhibits featuring everything from uniforms and weapons to vehicles and personal memorabilia. Among its notable displays are poignant pieces like sections of the Berlin Wall and the outer wall from Dachau Concentration Camp, which serve as powerful reminders of historical events.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Virginia War Museum while on my way to Williamsburg. The admission is very cheap but the lessons and stories learned were priceless. I definitely recommend others to visit, especially while on-the-go.
Donald W — Google review
This is a nice museum. Very interesting with a lot of artifacts and information. I would have given it 5 stars except for one exhibit. In the farthest corner of the museum, by the emergency exit door, hidden by another case is a small plaque. On it are listed a few of the women KIA in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It's part of a tiny exhibit of women in the war, in a hallway. Surely the museum can find a better place to highlight the sacrifice of these military casualties. And as a Veteran who happens to be female, I have to say, if you want to highlight women who serve, don't put the entire exhibit in an exit hallway.
Jude K — Google review
Lots of small arms from WWI AND WWII. American, German and Japanese. From the American Revolution to the war in Afghanistan the museum has a little bit of everything. Lots of machine guns from both WWs. They also have a WWI tank which you can see inside of. It's a neat museum, not to big as to take up your whole day but enuf to keep it interesting.
Matt — Google review
Went here on a whim while on vacation. It looks sort of small and not overly impressive from the outside but once you get in I was honestly shocked. It is hands down one of the top military museums I have ever been in. It covered all eras of the US history and had amazing exhibits and items in the displays. I cannot recommend this place enough if military museums are something that interest you!
BOTA 9 — Google review
Geared more towards adults and kids who can read and not touch. Lots and lots of cool historical items. I’m not a huge history buff, but our guided tour was exceptionally well explained with an emphasis on the advancements of war fighting and war life, era by era.
Therese S — Google review
Very cool meseum! I would say the tanks and guns etc. outside are way more interesting than the inside. The kids love this place! Family friendly although you occasionally have some shady people walking around the park.
Jason G — Google review
First time going here, I can recommend anyone that is interested in the history of the wars that were fought in Virginia. It starts from the American revolution all the way to GWOT. We had a tour guide and he did an amazing job!

Historic Sites
Nestled in Newport News, Virginia, Lee Hall Mansion stands as a remarkable testament to the region's rich history and architectural beauty. Constructed between 1851 and 1859 by the affluent Richard Decauter Lee, this antebellum gem showcases stunning Victorian architecture. Once serving as a Confederate command post during the Civil War under Generals Magruder and Johnston, it now operates as a captivating house museum.
Kelsey, our tour guide, was engaging in her well placed passion for conservation of the mansion. The home is lovingly restored with period and replica furnishings. Learned a lot about Gentleman Planter Mr Lee and turnover of the property over time. Highly recommend a visit.

Specialty Museums
The Mariners' Museum and Park, also known as Americas National Maritime Museum, is a comprehensive museum dedicated to maritime history. Founded in the 1930s, it showcases the history of seafaring from European exploration to the modern US Navy. The museum boasts an extensive collection of over 35,000 maritime artifacts including antique vessels, ship models, ancient documents, and paintings. The on-site USS Monitor Center features parts of the Civil War-era ironclad warship and a life-sized replica.
This is an absolutely awesome museum. I was really shocked that it cost $1.00, kind of unheard of nowadays. The museum itself has some fantastic artifacts, and it is really put together well. The volunteers that we encountered were great, very friendly, and very informative. This is truly a great museum, and I highly recommend it.
Scott L — Google review
Absolutely loved it. One wing of the building is dedicated to the USS Monitor and the Battle of Hampton Roads, including a partial reconstruction of a Confederate Ironclad (Maybe the Virginia, don't remember) and a reconstruction of the Monitor you can walk on the surface of and ring the bell. The video was really good, surround sound, screens all around while we sat on swivel chairs, and a handy map showing where the ships were so the battle made sense. Tucked out of the way is an exhibit of small craft from around the world that was fascinating! The room with the models had a volunteer there actively building models. They have a variety of scavenger hunts for the kids if varying difficulty, which my kids were super dedicated to. The small playground outside had good shade and a little wooden USS Monitor to play on. I would love to come back again if we are ever in the area
Noemi L — Google review
Whether you are a tourist or a local trying to decide how to spend some free time, the Mariners' Museum and Park is a clean place to get away from the noise. There are a ton of ways to mix-and-match features of this space to make for a fun and informative day! A few highlights: - Admission to the air-conditioned Museum is just $1. Realistically speaking, even if museums (or this particular subject matter) are not the vibe of everyone in your party, it is a very reasonable amount of money to pay to occupy a decent amount of time if you're looking for something to help fill the day's itinerary. For those who ARE into this type of thing, though, you could easily spend hours looking through the exhibits. Not to mention the docents are INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and excited to share their wisdom with you. :) Complete with a clean bathroom, activities for kids, and a small gift shop! - New inside of the Museum as of Spring of 2025 is Column 15, a pleasant cafe offering a variety of coffees, teas, and pastries. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. - The VERY well-kept Noland Trail that is generally open from sunrise to sunset-ish hours. There is ample parking, as it is intended for visitors to both the Museum and the Noland Trail. The full Trail is an approximately 5.0-mile loop, but there are a few alternate access points along the way. I have walked and jogged the full distance alone at all hours of the day and have always felt safe! The only thing that spooked me was the occasional deer. :) BE AWARE: I believe the Museum has a copper roof, so cell service inside the building and around the Noland Trail is quite spotty. Though it may be a bit inconvenient, couldn't we all use a break from our phones from time to time? :)
Rachel B — Google review
I thought it was going to be a boring museum, but it was really great! The thing that made it so enjoyable was doing the full museum scavenger hunt with my daughter while my husband and older son took their time learning about the boats. Don't pass this up just because you have kids along, get a scavenger hunt and have fun!
Maura V — Google review
The Mariners' Museum and Park is a wonderful place to see many fascinating boats and dive into history! I spent a few great hours there. Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing by.
Stervogon L — Google review
Amazing experience! Check out the monitor and Merrimack, America's Cup exhibition, vessels from across history, models, or pieces from ancient ships. Worth the trip... And it's only $1!
Mark W — Google review
The historic ironclad "Monitor" is housed here for preservation. Along with many other artifacts from the history of sea farers. Many exquisite models abound also. Allow plenty of time to soak in all that this museum has to offer. Admission is $1.00. Leave a generous tip afterwards.
Michael A — Google review
My sole reason to visit the museum was to see the Bellamy Eagle. I expected to just see it and go. Spent 4 hours there and could have stayed longer. Very interesting.

Nestled in Newport News, Virginia, the Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center stands as a tribute to J. Thomas Newsome, a distinguished attorney and journalist who significantly impacted African American history and culture. Built in 1899, this charming Queen Anne-style home is not only an architectural gem but also a vital gathering place for the local African-American community. The museum showcases interactive exhibits that celebrate African-American heritage through art and artifacts while hosting various educational programs and events throughout the year.
So inviting and informative when I’ve visited with friends the museum and we’ve got a private tour of the house. I only recommend this place for getting a good picture about this beautiful historical place!

Must see! Well preserved historical home in Newport News. Interesting history and special exhibits housed in this home owned by a black lawyer in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

Look past the neighborhood and find this gem . The guide was amazing . Learned tons. Newsome is inspiring
Jeff A — Google review
For recent or long term residents of the Hampton Roads area, this lovingly restored home is an essential visit to know & understand the social & political history of this region. Mr & Mrs Newsome shared their oasis with the African American communities of the area - providing shelter, meeting spaces, political discourse & legal recourse.
Parveen S — Google review
The gentleman who answered the door was a bit rude, complaining loudly about how we didn't call in advance and said, "I don't know what you people can't understand about that." Our group only had 7 people. The tour guide, Tad, was great and it was a very informative tour. I recommend calling in advance, though, if you plan to visit.
Ashley C — Google review
We've been touring various areas of the city lately and saw the sign for this place on the interstate and added it to the must-see list. What a well-cared for, beautiful home! The docent was very knowledgeable about the family, home, and community events. They have furniture original to the family, more than we've seen locally or indeed regionally. Absolutely recommend, especially for local history fans.

Ferguson Center for the Arts

Concert hall
The Ferguson Center for the Arts, located within Christopher Newport University, has become a prominent hub for performing arts enthusiasts in Virginia since its establishment in 2004. With over 2 million visitors, it offers three distinct concert halls: the Diamondstein Concert Hall accommodating 1725 guests, the Peebles Theatre with 453 seats, and the intimate Studio Theatre seating just 200.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Virginia Symphony orchestra and chorus here. This is a beautiful venue with modern architecture. There is no bad seat in the house. The acoustics are wonderful here. The seats are very clean and comfortable, with posh felt. The whole venue is clean and spacious. During shows, they have a concession area to buy snacks and drinks; including wines. They also give out sippy cups with any drink purchased, so you are able to take it in the theater with you. The staff here were friendly and helpful.
John H — Google review
Fun plays, music and events. Seating is wonderful with plenty of price options. May have a walk from parking but they offer a free golf cart shuttle. (Large golf cart carries at least 6 people). So handicapped accessible. Parking takes forever to get out after the show. The parking staff are excellent and no fault of theirs. Plenty of helpful staff inside can direct you to ticket booth or seating. Will call line was a bit slow so give extra time if having to pick up the tickets. Seating is comfortable. Small concession before and during intermission. Fun local place to see a play.
Leanne H — Google review
A good performance space, well maintained. Nothing looks run down. The acoustics are impressive. My only gripe is that I parked in the garage and, there being no signs, followed the crowd to a door that turned out to be the performer's door. Then had to walk what seemed like a long way around the large building, down a woodland path, to a door on the side. There are apparently golf carts to shuttle patrons, but none were in sight and, again, no signs anywhere. You walk out of the parking garage and are just left to guess.
Cameron T — Google review
We came for the Celtic Angels Ireland show. The facility is wonderful. Seats are padded and comfortable. Nice amount of leg room and the room temperature was nice and comfortable too. Parking was free and convenient.
Mark C — Google review
The Ferguson Center was very nice, and the staff were very friendly. The Cinderella Ballet performance was truly awesome. We attended this performance because my daughter, who attends an Academy high school, was required to see a ballet performance and take notes for an essay. She was taking her notes carefully using her phone’s flashlight on her lap so she could see her notebook. Unfortunately, a woman sitting nearby told my daughter she was being rude and should not use her phone. I explained to this woman that my daughter was using it only to take notes for her school assignment. To ease the situation, I switched seats with my daughter. However, when I turned around, I saw her crying. She was upset and no longer able to enjoy the performance, which was very difficult for me as a parent to see. Later, I noticed the couple speaking with staff and being reseated in another row. It made me wonder—if I had asked to be moved, would my daughter have been given the same treatment.
Cathy C — Google review
Went to go see the 8 Bit Big Band. Overall, it's a really good show. Staff handled seats well, and there was also live piano entertainment in the lobby. Though during the show, mixing was a little off. There was almost no bass, and I had to really focus to hear it. The strings section was quiet, but i think it was intended to be that way. But the performance was spectacular! We sat in the front row of the Parterre, great view and acoustics were nice, good balance of amplified and true sound. Speakers could use an upgrade. Overall loved the experience.
Dakota ( — Google review
This venue is a perfect size in my opinion. We have been on several occasions and each section of seats has a perfect view. There is a free parking garage within walking distance and everything is also very organized. There was a golf cart service from the parking garage to the venue for those with issues walking. Inside, there were helpful people to take you to your seat and friendly staff to get drinks. Not a large selection of drinks but enough. This past time we went to see Dragons & Mythical Creatures and it didn't disappoint. Wonderful performances and very interactive with the crowd.

The Ferguson Center for the Arts never disappoints! All seats are great seats and well worth the price. We ds the O'Jays and loved every minute of it!!

Newport News Park is an expansive 8,000-acre natural oasis featuring two freshwater reservoirs and a diverse range of flora and fauna. The park offers various recreational activities such as disc golf, biking, boating, horseback riding, and gardens. Visitors can explore lush woodlands, meadows, wetlands while observing native wildlife like beavers, otters, deer, raccoons, and foxes.
We came for leaf peeping, and it was amazing. 2.8 mile walk around the lake in the White Oak trail. We’ll be back, maybe often, and sometimes with mountain bikes. The tiny Discovery Center was worth a visit , too: most fun thing there is the recorded sounds of three kinds of owls who live in the park, two kinds of frogs and a beaver chewing a tree. :D Oh, they have LOTS of holiday lights up from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s weekend. We’ll be back! Best city park I’ve ever been to, actually.
Jon S — Google review
Planned on going for an easy hike and found their Discovery Center. A nice experience, especially for the grandkids. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We then took a nice hike and saw a plethora of turtles that liked to show up for visitors. Even though they had signs up asking not to feed the animals, especially human breads and snacks, there we some who don't listen. If we lived in the area we would visit often. Wonderful place!
Jim N — Google review
I've run all over Williamsburg and the Hampton Roads area but for some reason never ventured to this park. This park has nice shaded trails that kept me cool even though it was 90°. There are plenty of parking options and restrooms. I was able to use the trails to run 11.5 challenging miles and I didn't cover everything. This is a beautiful, well maintained park. My only concern is that it is easy to get turned around because the trails are not well marked. I used All Trails to help me stay on course. I will be adding this park to my running rotation!
Valerie A — Google review
I enjoy this park for its historical landmarks, fauna, and flora. I love walking the 2.6-mile trail. Watch out for snakes!
Johana L — Google review
This place is big and has bike trails as well as hiking trails. The only downside was (for us) the heat and the humidity which makes it a playground for mosquitoes. I recommend this place but only in the cooler months.
Ray F — Google review
Great time of year to come here and will be returning again to explore more of the park!
Whitney B — Google review

It offers a diverse range of static and rotating exhibits, as well as opportunities for visitors to create their own artwork. The Hands On For Kids gallery provides younger guests with the chance to work on their own masterpieces, while also offering art for purchase as souvenirs.
Really nice place to take the family and if youre an educator. The exhibits are beautiful. The tour guides are also exquisite 😊. They're very knowledgeable, animated, and helpful.

The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is a cozy little culture center with exhibits that come and go. It is very small and it will not take you long to see everything in great detail. You can knock out two in one with the Mariners Museum on the same campus. The highlight of my visit was the Mayan, Pre-Colombian and the Veracruz Culture exhibits. Some of the artifacts were thousands of years old. Truly mind blowing. The exhibits were also very wheelchair friendly but again the center was very small. So you may want to call ahead to see if a large group maybe scheduled on the day of your visit.

We visited for the ArtStart class. It's a really good preschool art class with story time. My 3 year old loves the class, teacher and the play area. All staff we've met are really friendly and helpful.
Holly A — Google review
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the hands on play. I will say the advertisement for the child's class on fb shouldn't say it's free. Because it's not it's with paid admission that the class is free for children. That would be my only qualm.
Krystal — Google review
$1 dollar admission through the summer!! What’s not to love? But in all seriousness, they had a beautiful walk around with paths, lush greenery, bird watching programs. On the inside, local young aspiring artists work in different medias. Rembrandt’s etchings we’re detailed and the museum provided magnifying glasses which I had no idea I even needed, but it proved useful the entire time!!

Loved the exhibit and learned quite a bit. The staff who gave tours were knowledgeable and friendly and had great patience with the class I was with. Will definitely return for the next exhibit!

Great place to tale the kids and visit. It cost only $1 and you will be. Done in an hour or less. There are a lot of hands on activities. Great place for kids to getenergy out.

The hands on toys exhibit was fantastic. The grandchildren had a great time. We had fun creating things in the craft room. There's also a scavenger hunt but my grandchildren were a little bit young for it to hold their attention for long. The best thing, it only cost a $1 per person for those above 5.

Historic Endview is a museum that features an enduring home and plantation from 1769, which showcases tours, exhibits, Civil War reenactments, and special events. The site was also used as the venue for the Colonial Virginia Council's (Scouting) 30th anniversary celebration. Additionally, it is a great location for camping and outdoor scouting activities. Visitors can learn about the history of the land through knowledgeable guides during their visit to this small but well-set-up house.
I did not go on the tour but instead took the afternoon to simply walk the grounds and let the history “soak” into my feet. I believe a lot of people go to places and follow a guide around and read a lot of placards without actually getting to know the history of a place. If you don’t do it anywhere else do it here! The cemetery was my favorite part. One of the most eerie and peaceful places I’ve ever been. You can feel the ghosts and bones going back almost 400 years. It was very enjoyable to sit out there in that grove and then to walk the bottomland around it getting a “feel” for what “they” saw and felt, the people that lived there and that have come before. I highly encourage anyone to take a day to walk around the grounds here to really enjoy the history of this place.

Peaceful, beautiful and historic. Definitely worth a visit.

We wish there were signs stating that the location was open for tours. We saw and stopped to read the historical markers on our way to Yorktown, and from the main road it appeared that the location was a private home, so we did not pursue any further. It wasn't until later on back at our hotel room in Williamsburg that we realized that the location can be visited. Make sure to do your homework before you travel; we always try our best, but we overlooked this location. Again, a sign out by the main road would have been nice.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. I was greeted with a warm smile and seated immediately. I requested a corner seat, and they accommodated my request perfectly. The atmosphere is romantic and cozy, with a lovely ambiance that makes you want to linger. The service was impeccable—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was absolutely excellent! The wine was delicious, and the cappuccino and cheesecake were the perfect way to end the meal. While it’s a bit on the pricey side, it was worth every penny for the quality and experience. I cannot wait to come back to this amazing spot on my next vacation. Highly recommend! Merci, Nicole 😁

Very quaint seafood restaurant. Great for a special occasion. Was able to accommodate a party of 10 although their usual size is 2-4. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. Everyone was very satisfied with their meal. There was a variety of mixed drinks available of which those that drank in our party were very satisfied with.

Good evening , I know this review has been long waiting , so here it is . My husband decided to take us out on our monthly date night . We walked in and waited only a few min before being seated , the lady who sat us was very nice and pleasant. Our server was truly amazing we didn't get any apps even tho they where amazing , the pricing for the 5 Course and 8 Course was understandable . Very nice ,quiet & clean 10/10 definitely can't wait to go back I loved talked about it for another week . Keep up the hard work y'all are well worth the price . Seafood pasta is so out this world olive garden will have to beg to get my money ..

Ok folks I am no expert on food or any restaurant, but this was 100%+ worth the visit! I will warn you, yes it’s very pricey for us blue collars and gratuity is added to your bill automatically, but was so worth it!! Came to celebrate my wife’s birthday and was seated immediately for a party of 6. Katherine, our server, instantly made us feel welcomed. She was attentive, friendly, genuine, and catered to my loud granddaughter (sorry to the other patrons, she’s cute but likes to jabber when she’s happy). Katherine please start a class to teach other wait staff on what a professional looks & acts like! On to the food..we ordered: the “Grilled Octopus” and “Smoked Salmon & Caviar” as appetizers. The “What’s up Doc” and the “Pear Cranberry Margarita” for the libations. The main entrees were the fish of the day (Rock fish) with crab meat, the “Short Rib and Crab Meat” with added Scallops, Seafood Pasta, and the “Wagyu Beef 8oz Bistro Steak” People!!! Everything was absolutely outstanding!!! On a side note, I never asked for anything for my wife’s birthday, but Katherine still made it special for her! This restaurant is off the beaten path, but so worth the trip there! Fin! We will be back!

Did the 7-course tasting menu and it was worth every penny and more - each course was meticulously assembled and paired with wine. Service was also excellent. Perfect date night!

We love celebrating special occasions at Fin, they never disappoint. Tonight we celebrated our 2 year anniversary. No matter if celebrating something or just want a great dinner, I highly recommend
BJ C — Google review
The cocktails here are incredible. They're not too expensive and have a variety of fun options with interesting presentation. The charcuterie board had some delicious cheeses. The seafood pasta was creamy and the seafood was cooked perfectly, I wouldve liked a bit more flavor..The flour less chocolate cake was fine. A heads up for special events: we asked if the kitchen could do something for a graduation but nothing was offered (I don't think they regularly do that sort of thing). All in all, terrific service and good food.
Madelyn B — Google review
Service is always amazing, and the kitchen just rocks. This is our go to spot for special occasions. The tuna tartar with crisps is always a favorite. Diced tuna with crispy accents, seaweed salad, and a siracha ice cream. Yes! These guys also know scallop risotto too. They'll add jumbo lump in a whisper. Just go.

Barbecue restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Newport News, Smoke BBQ Restaurant & Bar is a delightful haven for barbecue enthusiasts. This laid-back eatery specializes in homestyle, hardwood-smoked BBQ that promises to tantalize your taste buds with its rich flavors and tender textures. The menu boasts an array of mouthwatering options, from smoky wings and loaded baked potatoes topped with brisket to hearty sandwiches like the oyster poboy and pulled pork.
This was our first visit here, and it was phenomenal in every way. The service was excellent, and the food was even better. The patio is amazing, plus they are super dog friendly here. Our pups really enjoyed their visit too. Definitely will be back soon even though we are almost an hour away. We had the wood fire pizza and taco Tuesday tacos. So good!!!

Logan was amazing server on the outside patio he was very nice and attentive to our request, the outdoor patio is very calm quiet and not alot of noise for being beside Warwick. Thank you to Logan , Update we went again last night 9.14.25 and another gentleman took our table when he didn't have to due to our server being busy . We really Appreciate him letting us know and being very knowledgeable of the menu, thank you to him and the hostess for being amazing and the staff was wonderful .
MrsJones — Google review
Honestly the service was poor. I asked for an iced tea and received it. As the meal took longer than expected (which was ok not disappointed by that) I requested a refill. Three separate times the waiter walked by slapping his head saying “oh I forgot “. On the third time an also ordered dessert a cheesecake. That is when I finally got my refill. The brisket Philly was (look at the picture) overcooked to the point of being burnt. The cheesecake was the best part of the meal (for $10 a slice it better be good) I will try again but I had to share my most recent experience
David H — Google review
Staff was on point—fast, friendly, and knew the menu like pros. We grabbed a spot outside, and the vibe was perfect. Laid-back, shaded, and yes—our dog got treated like royalty. We tried the smash burgers and their spicy garlic fries. Unreal. Crispy, juicy, just the right amount of heat. Finished it off with their house-made lemonade, which somehow made everything taste even better. We’re not even local, but this place just made our “worth the drive” list. Coming back for brunch next time.
MOE S — Google review
This place is great! As soon as I walked in Nana, and Tyler made this experience awesome. The food was great also. Definitely check this place out. Plus they got the NFL package and a ton of TVs .
Scott L — Google review
This place is great. The smoked meat is def the star here. The sides could be better but overall good. The prices are kinda pricey about $30+ per person. I got garlic parm wings (needed more garlic parm flavor) the greens and mac.
T. T — Google review
Barbecue has some nice smoke to it. Really love and you can tell that they’re using wood very flavorful. Brisket was OK was not as juicy as would’ve hoped for. Beef ribs were very solid. They have very, very good side, dishes, and plenty of choices. Baked beans were strong, and the pork rinds were very good.
J. H — Google review
Food was good, but lacked presentation. Services was slow, waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged after being seated, then she was somewhat attentive there after. Atmosphere was causal and worn.

Midtown Eats

Mentioned on
+1 other list
$$$$cheap
American restaurant
Midtown Eats is a vibrant and modern café that brings a delightful twist to classic American breakfast and comfort food. Nestled in front of Sandbar Pub, this locally owned gem specializes in slow-smoked barbecue, seafood po'boys, and creamy macaroni and cheese. The menu boasts an array of mouthwatering appetizers like tuna bites, crab balls, cheese curds, smoked nachos, BBQ cheddar balls, and boneless wings.
Midtown Eats is an interesting little spot on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. I was on a lunch date on my first visit. When we arrived were greeted and seated quickly. The decor is interesting with an artistic expression both rustic and juvenile. The menu looked promising with a selection of what I would describe as comfort foods. I chose the gumbo it's a favorite and the adult grilled cheese with several cheeses on rustic bread. My partner chose the Philly Steak Sandwich with tots we both had soft drinks. The Gumbo had a wonderful flavor but was missing the rice! When I inquired I was informed that it was served with hush puppies. This was NOT a good combination in my opinion. And the hush puppies were dense and over cooked. The grilled cheese was definitely grilled to death not burnt but so crunchy that it hurt to bite into it. The Philly was a Philly nothing to make it anything but. The tots were grease logged as if the oil had not been hot enough. Some of this could have been just a ok whatever shrug the kitchen is having an off day. But it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive from the time we ordered. There were two other tables another 2 top and a 3 top so not at all busy. This was a sad experience and I left frustrated not having spoken to anyone about the issues so as to not embarrass my date who doesn't like to draw attention.
Paul S — Google review
The plates are pretty big and filling! Our server was awesome and very attentive. The food was good and prices were normal. They do have $3 mimosas, but I didn't try one today.
Syi P — Google review
Came for a party from NC & we went to get breakfast here with my family. The atmosphere was great we sat outside because the AC was on full blast. The amount they serve and how much it cost it’s so cheap. The food was delicious & everything was presentable. Definitely will stop by again!!!
Leissy Q — Google review
I am begging you to make Midtown Eats your next brunch destination. Every food item is beautifully presented, carefully made, and the taste is OUTSTANDING. The servers are attentive, friendly, and extremely hospitable. My partner and I have tried the Chicken & Waffles, the Midtown Breakfast Bowl, the Peanut Butter & Honey French Toast, and the Texas Brisket Omelette. When I tell you that each dish was packed with flavor, you better believe it. They know how to make brunch and they do it well. Not to mention each dish was affordable and the portion sizes were larger than expected! If I had to leave a negative, it would be the cigarette smell coming from the Sandbar Pub & Grill attached next door. It is a smoking bar, but after a few minutes in the restaurant, the smell goes away. With their cleanliness standards, the smell does not affect the taste of the food, so you do not have to worry about that. If you are sensitive to these things, I recommend that you order take out or eat outside on their lovely patio. Regardless, you should give Midtown a shot, because they are definitely one of the best brunch places in Newport News.

We were greeted very warmly from the very beginning. The food was really good too. Good value for quality here. I made a sloppy mess of my burger; this was a yummy mess. There's inside and outside patio seating. There's nothing extravagant here, very laid back. They pepper salt their fries here. I enjoyed the fries, too. I did have to wipe down my table and booth with a napkin when I first sat down.
John H — Google review
So we have been coming to this spot for years. Always fantastic food and awesome customer service. That being said our last trip was a disappointment. We both ordered the same omelette. We usually do. EXCEPT this time we received half an omelette each. It was like they made the omelette and cut it in half. We live out of town but visit frequently. Unfortunately, we will not go out of our way to patronize Midtown again.
Nosh R — Google review
Really good food. We had the bayou Benedict and pb banana French toast. Nice outdoor seating.
Amanda M — Google review
I ordered the 8" Chicken Philly with grilled onions, peppers and banana peppers through DoorDash on 10/16/2025. I usually don't have an issue, except for that day. Even though I didn't select it, my order came LOADED with mushrooms, which I'm allergic to, and I wasn't able to state this since typing requests is blocked for their store. I was unable to eat my food, and DD rejected my refund request, even though I had a photo to back up my claims. The photo attached is just a small example of what I found, and thankfully I found them before eating.

Seafood restaurant
Harpoon Larry's Fish House & Oyster Bar is a laid-back spot offering traditional seafood and a well-stocked bar in a charming setting adorned with maritime relics. Despite initial skepticism, many patrons have been pleasantly surprised by the restaurant's delectable crab dishes and inviting ambiance. The establishment caters to families with a kids' menu while adults can savor the popular local favorite, the Rum Runner cocktail.
Busy on an Easter, but very professional staff handling these crowds - NO PROBLEM! Food is higher levels of tasty. Especially enjoyed a cheesy seafood pizza, shrimp n grits with sausage, crab dip, large portions of fresh grilled seafood. I was sharing, no complaints from anyone!
Larry M — Google review
In town and decided to go out with the family. We started off with calamari. They were large. It looked like the calamari could have been used to stuff something in it. Ive never had calamari this large. It was good. My mom and I split the harpoon meal as the waiter said it was large. You can get the meal either fried or grilled. We got it fried. It came with a huge piece of flounder, huge crab cake, 3 shrimp, 3 scallops and 2 hush puppies. For our side we got the red potatoes boiled with melted butter and salt & pepper. My daughter got the salmon blt sandwich and my sister got the oyster po-boy. We had a nice time and our waiter rashared (sorry if it's spelled wrong) was on point and took great care of us. My mom thought the meals were expensive but I expected to pay this amount.

I was in the area I had a taste for seafood Harpoon Larry’s did not disappoint. The food was fresh and delicious, the presentation of the food was excellent and my waitress was very helpful she did an excellent job serving us, the atmosphere was awesome. They had plenty of choices to choose from and the prices were affordable, they also have plenty of parking space. I don’t come to Newport News often but now I have a reason to.
Angela M — Google review
This was first time to the restaurant with our family. We came from SC to visit. The wait time was about 40 minutes, but we got seated in 25. The waiter was very attentive and help to make the best choice on the menu for our taste requirements. I would highly recommended you visit this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
Sam C — Google review
Shrimp po boy 7.4/10 Hush puppies 8.3/10 Enjoyed a nice dinner here with a few friends. There was no huge complaints from my group and there was no wait time, which was nice. The scenery is typical of a seafood restaurant and meets the standard. The hush puppies were done really well but just slightly on the dryer side. The shrimp po boy contents were done very well, the coleslaw had green apple pieces that really tied the flavor profile together! My only issue was with the roll, either put more in it or choose a smaller bread so each bite is balanced out. I would definitely come again and try more off this menu.
Matthew H — Google review
Good spot and good food. While I can’t vouch for it all what I’ve had is A+. The shrimp and grits, the calamari, the raw oysters and hush puppies are excellent. The fried flounder fish sandwich was average.
The B — Google review
Fresh, tasty, and filling! 🦪🐟 The fish was perfectly seasoned, oysters were super fresh, and that creamy dip with pita hit the spot. Definitely a solid seafood stop
Lauren N — Google review
Food is great. First visit wife had fried oysters. I had the harpoon with a side of lobster tacos. The harpoon was excellent. If you want to taste lobster don't get the lobster tacos. They were very good and good amount of lobster but the mild lobster taste was covered up by the hot sauce. Second visit wife made another run at the oysters and I had pan Seafood spaghetti. We will be back.

Burger Theory

Mentioned on

$$$$affordable
Hamburger restaurant
Burger Theory is a unique burger joint that encourages customers to get creative with their burgers by allowing them to "Create your own Burger". Located within a Holiday Inn, this forward-thinking restaurant offers a selection of local craft beers and well-seasoned burgers that can be paired with various sides. The staff is friendly and provides solid recommendations for both food and drinks. While the service was decent, some customers noted that it may have been slightly affected by other tasks being carried out by the servers.
As the name of the place says, "Its all about the burgers!" I tried a traditional burger here and they make it very good. Lots of meat cooked just right, the meat juices were perfect. The toppings were fresh and my side salad was on the spot. The fries were crispy and all. Its a great burger joint with amazing quality. If you want a nice hamburger in the area, I can recommend this place. Good service as well with quick response. I liked this place and will definitely come back sometime.
Kay P — Google review
I was told the food here was good until I experienced it for myself. I ordered the breakfast burger, fries and chicken tenders. The grease was so old you could Taste it through the tenders that were burnt and the fries. Tasted like a multitude of things. Disgusting. I called to discuss with customer service, she going to tell me about them changing grease earlier that day. However, it appeared as if they hadn’t had a customer all day long in the restaurant. Prior to me getting my food, I waited for a long time. Having to stand in the restaurant, look at the bag sitting on the counter, and call while in there.
R R — Google review
We have frequented your establishment many times over the past couple years and always had a good experience with great food and decent service. Last night we decided to meet there after not having eaten there for a couple months. Our experience was beyond disappointing. Other than the two people who only had salads the food was absolutely horrible. The queso was cold and the chips were stale. The French Fries, I’m not sure what brand they were, but they were terrible. The chicken tenders are not actually breaded chicken tenders, they were like blackened & grilled, and they were burnt tasting. The piece of fish on the fish sandwich was tiny, tasted ok though. The burgers themselves were fine for the most part, but they absolutely destroyed everyone on of the buns by grilling them until they were black & burnt tasting. The child’s pizza was worse than a great value frozen pizza, a tombstone frozen pizza would have been an improvement. The Mixed Drinks were expensive and watered down with a garden hose. My Cpt Morgans & Coke was nearly as see thru as a plain glass of water, and tasted like nothing but water. My friend ordered a Jameson & ginger double, it was definitely not a double, it was barely a single. Surprisingly they did get the Green Tea Shooters right. They have multiple beer taps, but no beers were on tap, so just there for looks I supposed. The waitress was very nice, no issues with her attitude or demeanor, her service on the other hand was not very good, she would just disappear for long periods of time, couldn’t remember who had ordered what, and was slow to respond to request. And the place was not very busy. But the real kicker was the “Large Party SrvChg” which said it was 20%. Mind you we had Seven Adults, and One Toddler, so not exactly a “Large Party”, and they were split bills. But OK, problem was it absolutely was Not 20%. The charge on my bill worked out to 49.30%, and several others in the group their charges worked out to well over 30%. So, you provided less than stealer Service, horrible food, weak drinks, and then add your own Tip of anywhere between 30-50%. Absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know what’s happened in the last 6 months, but you need to fix it. Your just lucky that you have a built-in client base from the hotel, because if you had to stand on repeat locals you’d be out of business in 6 months. We won’t be back until we see something stating new management because whoever is managing now is failing miserably. If I could give it Zero Stars I would. (YSO)

I’ve been to this location several times. The cook ALWAYS gets the burger right. Never fails. I like my burger medium rare and it’s right all the time. My boyfriend adds Borsin and onion rings. Always fresh, never miss. Their fries are also top notch.
Marco G — Google review
The burgers here are OK. Nothing special but average. The soup was actually very good and the desserts (key lime pie) was lackluster at best. The ambiance can be quite fun, but the last time we went it was dead and felt very much like a hotel restaurant. Every time we have been here the service has been great, so no complaints there.
Richard M — Google review
It's one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The burger was cooked as I requested. The fries were crisp on the outside but not overcooked. Delicious. Great service as well. It's worth every penny.
Roxie H — Google review
We went here with high hopes. Unfortunately, they were short-lived. The area is industrial and, while the restaurant has tried to make itself inviting, it gives the feel of a chain from the '90s. I will say that the staff was friendly and professional and I would rate them 5 star. The food was mixed. My son and I got burgers and they were good but not amazing. The onion rings were over cooked and greasy. The fries were good and the tea was tasty. The final straw was the time it took to get our food. We were one of only two tables seated and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. All in all a mediocre experience we are unlikely to repeat.
Michael S — Google review
The Burger Theory staff did a fantastic job waiting on our large group today, and made sure we were all taken care of. The food was excellent and service was amazing. I'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Every dish was full of incredible flavor combinations that had us tantalized with each bite! Their extensive wine menu and creative cocktail list provide plenty of options for diners. Reservations are recommended, due to the size of the venue and justifiable demand for each seat.

My husband took me here for my birthday, and it exceeded my expectations. Everything was to die for. Very cute and cozy inside. Service was spectacular! I highly recommend this place, reservations are recommended. We are definitely coming back.
Amanda A — Google review
Circa 1918 is pure perfection and I can't believe I was honored enough to get a reservation there on a Saturday night! This restaurant is located on a little cute strip, filled with vintage looking shops. It's cozy on the outside and in the inside. The ambiance at night is giving romantic date night. It's a pretty tight space but it gives an intimate feel. I personally love that. I went here because one of my friends said that it is his favorite restaurant. He explained how their menu frequently changes and is chef-curated. He really hyped it up. And the experience I had here with friends really lived up to the hype!! Immediately waking up, the hostess greeted us with upbeat and high energy and she quickly seated us as well. The hostess also ended up being our waitress. She was very well-informed and knew the food and drinks like the back of her hand. I'm always impressed when waitstaff know what they're talking about because I've been in their shoes before. So I know the work it takes to get like that. We started with a house appetizer. I don't remember what it was exactly but it was all beautifully topped on a slice of naan. It really started off the night on a great note. Our appetizers were the charred octopus, beef gyoza, and the fried oysters. Our drinks were excellent craft cocktails that I don't remember the names of. But each one was gorgeous and delicious! Next up, we had the grilled asiago bread, bison meatloaf, pan seared duck breast, and the seared jumbo sea scallops. Goodness. Not a single disappointment in any of these dishes that I listed. Maybe one disappointment is that I couldn't have unlimited charred octopus and duck breast... LOL. I often get lost in thinking about the charred octopus here. It was crispy on the outside with the perfect amount of char, but yet it was soft and tender in the inside. I got my duck cooked at medium rare. The duck breast melted in my mouth. I didn't want the experience to end. Overall, this place is absolutely worth the hype and is all the rage. I'm 1000000% coming back here when I'm back in town again.
Julie P — Google review
If you want an elevated dining experience but still kinda casual with the best tasting meals, definitely check this place out. I forgot what the starter was. Then we got the charred octopus and frisee salad (not pictured) both amazing. Porkchop was a special for the night. It was the most tender pork ive ever had. It almost tasted like beef. The sweet potato sauce was probably the best sauce I ever had. My husband really enjoyed his lamb. We'll be back again

This was my first time there. My friend found it on a whim. We didn’t have any reservations but they were happy to accommodate us! (Recommend reservations) All of the staff was great! Kip was our main server and he was amazing!! Provided great recommendations and conversation! We had the bread app, crab hush puppies, tuna wonton tacos, shrimp risotto and duck confit. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Plates were clean!!!

The service here is always the best, definitely my go-to restaurant for a nice night out! Delicious food and drinks, I’ll never pass up a night here. <3
Essence S — Google review
We’ve been here three times now and each time has been terrific. The food is amazing every single time and presented beautifully while still giving you a normal amount of food (looking at you, other nice restaurants serving plates with one bite worth of food). Drinks, appetizers, and desserts are great too! A bit on the pricier side but it’s totally worth it for the high quality food that you get.
Rachel K — Google review
This was our second time here and the meal and service didn't disappoint. Our only critique is that they keep the dining room very cold - we were freezing, but well fed.

Saffron is a charming restaurant that offers a blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine in an inviting, old-school dining setting. The interior exudes comfort and beauty, providing a delightful atmosphere for patrons. The owner, Daud (or David), is known for being very accommodating and knowledgeable about the food and spices. Guests rave about the delectable hummus as well as the lamb and beef kabobs.
My favorite place to get Mediterranean style food in Newport News. I usually go at a time when no one is there. I get the lamp kabob with rice and as an appetizer I get hummus and bread. The lamb is tender and delicious. Nice quiet family owned type restaurant. Highly recommend
James — Google review
The food was ok, not an experience so to speak. Service and people polite but didn’t hit home. Tried it because the higher rating and area but wouldn’t recommend. The cake at the very end was dryer out and the Dr Pepper bottle I drank expires in less than 30 days…
Online S — Google review
There's so many things wrong with this. I ordered the Saffron Combination for 2. On the menu, it was just over $30 for lunch, but this total came to $47. Understanding inflation, I didn't say anything. For this amount of food though? This is ridiculous. Do not come here. I cannot believe I spent $50 on this. The lamb also was not good. DO NOT COME HERE. The chicken and rice were the only good things, everything else had a weird taste and was just bad. Very sad because the owner was really sweet.

Beautiful restaurant, good service , the meat was flavorful however the rest of my plate was plain tasting . Service was excellnet until it came down to pay, I had to ask the gentleman at the bar eating , do I go up to pay ? As he is eating he says I’ll get that for you, We are nearly done with our experience, is not when you sit down to eat. Working in restaurants I was kind of shocked . The desert was dry and old and before saying anything , it’s like they knew it was. A little disappointed in that . My appetizer was excelllent .
Anell M — Google review
I am glad that I found this hidden gem while looking on Google! I dined here about a week ago for lunch with a colleague of mine and we both had a great experience. We were the only ones there and were immediately greeted by the gentleman there. He was very thorough and explained all of the items that we had questions about and even informed us of the different specials that they had. I ordered the chicken kabob with a variety of rice and vegetables. The food was absolutely amazing! The chicken was very well seasoned and the rice blend complimented it perfectly. We did not have to wait long at all for our food which was great. You also receive the side of bread with two dipping sauces that were pretty good as well. The portion sizes are great! I feel that you get a good amount of food for a very reasonable price. I look forward to dining here again!

It’s a cute place but the food is really bad. It’s very oily and usually steak kabobs are soft but these ones are super hard. We will not be coming back.

The blooming shrimp was amazing! One of my dinner companions had the tequila flight and was so pleased with the selection that it was hard to choose a favorite. Even though we had plenty to eat, we couldn't resist the desert choices and settled on two of them to try. They were both outstanding.

I came here a few years ago. Today's visit was good. Their house draft beer was very good I definitely would order again. Everyone enjoyed the food other than our fried mushrooms app. They were very greasy and the batter was falling off. Service was standard.

I went out with my mom today for lunch to celebrate my birthday coming up. The hostess was so sweet, and our waiter was great. I got the new Sharky Temple, we each got a side salad, shared the Bloomin’ Onion, and I got the 6 oz sirloin with the grilled shrimp. It was all delicious and a great experience!

The food was a bit cold, the gallon of sweet tea wasn’t even filled to the full line (Picture even shows that I haven’t messed with the lid on top. It still has its tamperproof cap) and it was well done when I had ordered medium . I understand the food not being warm due to it being a to go order but would just like a full gallon next time. Other than that it was good the food was seasoned well and the mashed potatoes were perfect. Thanks!

Outback Steakhouse has quickly become my favorite place to dine. I frequent both the Hampton and Newport News VA locations and they both get 5 stars. I was sad that the Hampton, VA location closed as it was close to my home. However the bone-in Ribeye steak is worth the drive. Great food, great atmosphere and great customer service.

Who doesn't like a three-course meal deal with the right price that fills you up and does not break your budget! Raise your hand! Next time you're near, take advantage of that promotion! We had awesome customer service. No one hovering over you . Waitress Came just when you really needed someone to show up. I would definitely go back.

Whether it's a romantic dinner or a celebratory event, Schlesinger's Steakhouse is recommended for its attentive service and delicious meals.
Schlesinger’s Steakhouse delivered an exceptional dining experience worthy of a 5 out of 5 star rating. Our server, Rae, made the evening memorable and offered recommendations on menu items and spirits; she was fantastic. Our food was seasoned and cooked to perfection with mouthwatering flavor in every bite. Thanks Schlesinger’s Chop House for making our evening truly magnificent.

My wife and I came here while there was a concert in the park. We sat outside, and their out door seating makes it feel like you're eating right along the sidewalk, makes for a great atmosphere. I had the Prime Rib and it was so good, especially paired with their horseradish. The soup was also delicious, and the mashed potatoes may have been the best I'd ever had. You felt like the servers would bend over backwards for you, they were great. And while we were there Michael Vick came in to have dinner, so you know it's good!!!

I took my parents here for lunch on a Saturday. The atmosphere was truly fine dining, quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The service was great and professional. The food was delicious even down to their basic caesar salad. I can't afford to come here for a dinner but the lunch was perfect.

My spouse and I decided to try Schlesinger's for the first time last night. I made a reservation on Open Table and wrote that we were celebrating our anniversary, and pretty much everyone we encountered wished us a happy anniversary, which was nice. The staff was very friendly and attentive; our server Matt was able to answer any questions we had. Our cocktails were delightful and the steaks... definitely the best steaks we've ever had. I normally get a basic filet mignon whenever I eat steak, but I decided to go with their special Steak Schlesinger and I was floored by how delicious it was. It was hard to choose a dessert but we went with our favorite key lime pie. It was a very enjoyable experience, and we decided this should be our anniversary tradition from now on.

This restaurant is amazing! Excellent service and food. They know how to treat a customer. I have a client-friend from NYC who has to come HERE whenever he's in town. He swears the steaks are better than anything he's had in Manhattan. Worth every penny.
Andy H — Google review
It's a very nice restaurant. For me, flavor is better than salt. The seafood bisque had awesome flavor but was a bit salty for me. The baked sweet potatoe was a bit wet for me, kind of like it was steamed.

Took my husband here tonight for his birthday. Jay was an awesome server. We both had the Steak Schlesinger with baked potato. Cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth. We both said it was the best steak we have had in a long time

The food here is phenomenal! I was blown away with the General Tso chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. Some of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend that you try this place of goodness out.

Nestled in a vibrant setting, Cove Tavern has been delighting guests since 2013 with its enticing American cuisine and refreshing cocktails. The restaurant boasts an airy ambiance adorned with tropical-inspired art, creating a perfect escape right on the Peninsula. Whether you're planning a romantic evening or a family gathering, the inviting dining room caters to all occasions. For those who prefer al fresco dining, the spacious outdoor patio is ideal for savoring meals while soaking up the sun or enjoying live music on weekends.
I frequent this restaurant when I want CRAB DIP and sometimes for my adult beverage, the Cove Rita, I think it's called! Both are very tasty! Great vibes with live music sometimes. I ordered two Crab dips this particular day!! 😋

We went there for my husband's birthday. Me personally I didn't enjoy it. This is a casual restaurant bar with a ton of people, very loud...you can't hear what the person at your table is saying. The atmosphere is off for me, since I'm more classic type vibes. The food was good 👍, I had the Caribbean salmon little too sweet but maybe that's the dish itself. For appetizer we had the spinach dip, way too salty. The chicken wings were amazing! We enjoyed them, I also like the French fries. The service was not that great... We didn't see him checking on us. I ordered some french fries with the appetizer that was served after the main dish. Are you kidding me. I requested 2 boxes I received one. So, when it time for me to pay how you are demending 18% for tip? Do you remember the service you just provided maybe because you had 5 tables at the same time. I don't know that. But I always do my best to tip. Thank you. Not my cup of tea ✌🏽
N L — Google review
This place is very mediocre. The best part was the drink. The wings were a little warm when we got them. Not hot like they should have been. Not the best, not the worst I have had. The queso had a weirdish taste to it. We both ordered a burger. When asked how we wanted our burgers cooked, we said medium and we also asked for a runny egg yolk. The waitress said that the eggs will be done according on how you want our burger cooked. An interesting response. We ordered medium rare in hopes we would get the runny egg yolk and a burger cooked rhe way we wanted. We did not. The egg was fried hard. The burger was medium well. The floors were sticky along with the table. The service wasn't great either. It also had a damp smell. We should have left when we walked in. If you are looking for a mediocre place for dinner, this is your spot. We should have just had dinner at the hotel. 😂

The best Shrimp and Grits I’ve ever tasted! Extremely savory and the bread that comes along with it was extremely soft and buttery. Unlike lots that are crunchy. The wings are perfectly cooked, not drenched in sauce but coated just enough. The desert I had (the apple cobbler) was great however the “ ice cream “ that comes along with it is not actual ice cream. It’s what’s called an “ice cream product” which doesn’t melt like real ice cream would. Rather it turns into a mushy pudding texture over time. For context, the photo of the ice cream is after it’s been sitting out for 2hrs (still not melted) Overall a great meal. Compliments to the chef.

Overall our experience was just ok. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server came out shortly after. Our orders consisted of crab dip, shrimp and grits and Cajun salmon with mac n cheese and collard greens as sides. The dip was watery and didn’t have much flavor. The shrimp and grits, though a bit too cheesy, were some of the best I’ve ever had. I liked the salmon dish but the sauce seemed to overpower the salmon itself. The greens were pretty good but I didn’t care for the mac n cheese. It was also bland in my opinion. I also ordered a blueberry martini, which was good but it took a while to get to me (server forgot about it). Overall, I would give the place another try if I’m in the area.
Kay J — Google review
Had an 11am reservation. For some reason our large party was seated right at the entrance doors. Service has been good. Shrimp and grits is a great portion and very flavorful, wish it had more shrimp (I believe it had 4).
Jessica M — Google review
My sister invited me to come to this place which i have been there before. We sat outside on a beautiful breezy day. Food could of been better collard green were super salty and my salmon rub was also salty. For the rest of the food was tasty and good but overall the seasoning was very salty on the slamon and fish. We did report the issue and wish that we didnt have that experience but we did. I doubt we would consider going back for food perhaps but maybe for drinks is fine.

Food is not worth the price, Lacks flavor. The server was amazing. The hostess needs to find another job. Not greeted immediately and not greeted with a smile, place was basically empty so no excuse. Would not return.

Richmond International Airport

Airport
International airport
Opened in 1927, this airport close to Virginia's capital offers free WiFi & mostly domestic flights.
I flew in last night because I'm visiting family here in Virginia, and honestly it was one of my favorite airports that I've been to most recently, and i fly alot. I say this because it's smaller so it's easy to navigate, and it wasn't too crowded. Very clean, quiet and welcoming.
LiME L — Google review
Nice travel, 8 hr waiting to take the next flight but it was not bad. First time in the city, It’s clean and nice. The airport has a lot of good food inside, bathrooms everywhere, free water in the walls in dispenser. It was a beautiful experience. They have a bus to move you from one place to another completely free. Employees helping people in wheelchairs. Lovely 🥰

Very clean and surprisingly empty, made the whole experience smooth! Security check was super quick with almost no wait. Great airport for domestic travel, hassle-free and efficient. Overall great experience

I enjoy watching the planes get into position and as I was watching I had the opportunity to learn some neat facts about the airplane ✈️ when they do take off. I had a great time delivering an order to another pilot.

What a great airport! I flew out on a Sunday afternoon and it was so quiet and easy to navigate. The airport is well designed, and I waited zero minutes for TSA PreCheck. The Delta staff were super friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of restrooms, food, and beverage options, plus the WiFi is lightning fast. The rental car facility is connected directly to the terminal, making the whole process easy breezy. Looking forward to flying through Richmond again soon! Pro tip: If you have TSA PreCheck, this airport is a dream—no lines at all. And renting a car here is seamless since the facility is attached to the terminal.

Ashley in baggage claim was radiant with enthusiasm and a kind smile. In addition, the facilities are always clean, restrooms are clean. Parking is a breeze, it’s a crisp 68° when it’s 100° outside. Simply a pleasure flying in and out of Richmond International Airport.
Jason B — Google review
I know it says for immediate loading of passengers only but here at Richmond international airport. It means Park and stay as long as you want. Literally not a single spot for someone to actually pick someone up. And there is a cell phone waiting lot. But not a cop to enforce the rules to be seen.

Bring your own sanitary wipes- we flew out last Thursday at 9pm. Got there at 7:10, thought we eat at airport before flight. Applebees was closed only option was Cross Grain Brewhouse for hot food. Food was fast, served warm. Good. Our issue was tables were filthy. At no time in our hour there was any table top wiped between customers. We asked for napkins and then used sanitizer to wipe our sticky wet area. Most around us asked for napkins and made there own placemats. Bar, tables all went unwiped with wet and what ever crumbs from prior user. Fast forward, we are back on Tuesday this week in the morning. I walked by and again same pattern. Hopefully they are cleaner in the kitchen but again no choices after 7pm. So I suggest bring your own sanitizing wipes or just ask for carry out and take food to another area. Resturant has not responded to my review or comments. I tried to reach airport management. No response. Next time we will bring our food if we don't get a chance to eat before we get to airport. Please note the many reviews about Cross Grain consistent with ours. Obviously not important. We love this airport, parking, ease of entry, airlines etc and will continue using, maybe just not for food.

Norfolk International Airport

International airport
Airport
Norfolk International Airport is a key hub serving the Southeast, conveniently located near Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Newport News. It offers a lounge for active and retired military personnel. The airport provides easy access to the picturesque coastal region of Norfolk, known for its historic charm and beautiful wedding venues. Additionally, it's in close proximity to the world's largest naval base, Naval Station Norfolk. Travelers can also easily reach the nearby cruise ship dock from the airport.
Update: 3/5/2025 fly regularly out of ORF the employees are great, friendly and helpful..I love how clean it is including the restrooms, always spotless and fully stocked..the airport itself is easy to get around, it would be nice if there was a few more options with restaurants but only because there usually packed during day hours.. also I appreciate the phone chargers in the seats how convenient if your laid over a while to not have to go to a crowded charging port.. keep up the excellent service! 👍 9/2020 The airport is easier to get to, get around, and the people working there can be very helpful, I have not had a bad time yet, and I've had to fly more than several times in and out of here, each time they were so kind, helpful and showed empathy that is a rarity today. Thank you to all who have helped me each and every time. You have no idea how much it meant and the stress you helped relieve off my mind in a already stressful period, soon to fly out again..I'm grateful it will be from Norfolk International " keep up the wonderful service. ( the pics are beautiful views after takeoff )

This is a great little airport! We flew in from the west coast so arriving and departing we came on last flight in and first flight out. Very friendly, helpful employees at those hours. The airport is small so easy to maneuver. There are a few dining options (Great American Bagel Company for an early breakfast) and plenty of restrooms and charging spots. The airport as a whole was very clean. Thank you for your hospitality!

Norfolk International is a nice, small airport that’s super easy to fly in and out of. I’ve never had any issues flying out of Norfolk check-in and security are always quick, and everything runs smoothly. It’s clean, easy to navigate, and perfect for regional or connecting flights. I’m not totally sure how “international” it really is, there don’t seem to be any incoming international flights, and maybe one outgoing one to the Bahamas, but it still does the job well. Overall, it’s a great little airport convenient, efficient, and stress-free. Thanks for watching! ✈️😄

We normally go to Richmond Airport (RIC) but we got a great deal going to Saint Thomas and had to take it up. While I didn’t like the airport as much as Richmond due to the cramped check in area and more confusing layout, I did enjoy this airport. The check in was somewhat difficult and we got lost but the rest of the airport was modern and easy to get around. Also, the staff somewhat rude to us. There were plenty of food options and parking was easy to get to.

I just arrived. Flew in from Palm Beach County, FL. Check im time is 4 PM. I called ahead and told them I am flying in - and approximately when I would arrive (11:45). Since check out time is 11:00 AM they told me it would be more likely they would have a room ready for me around 1-2 PM. That in conjunction with the fact that they were sold out last night made it difficult to have rooms ready early. But ... since I communicated with the 48 huts in advance - they had a room ready for me when I arrived!!! Beautiful room too overlooking the Navy Shipyard and the bay. The scenery is beautiful but because it is overcast - not the full impact. Ready for 21/2 days of meetings, motivation and memories (making new ones).

Going through security was easy and not a hassle. Airport is very easy to navigate with staff ready to help. But do keep in mind that some restaurants or shops are either only on the before or pass the security. I make that an emphasis on such a smaller airport where unlike larger ones there can be multiple of a brand and yeah. Great experience will come again 👍

Quick processing and out the door on arrival. Best airport for ease of movement from airplane to parking lot. Less than 30 min from plane at terminal to at park g kiosk. Of course, didn't check a bag... . Perfect
