Shwezigon Pagoda is an ancient 11th-century Buddhist temple in Bagan, Myanmar. It is a sacred site believed to enshrine the bones and teeth of Buddha. The pagoda features a monumental stupa covered in gold leaf and intricate carvings, surrounded by smaller temples and shrines. Despite being damaged several times, it has been reconstructed with gold leaves and copper plates. Visitors can admire the significance of its different features while walking around the clean interior.
What a beautiful place, a full of hearitage, culture of Myanmar. I liked it very much. Spent here around 20-25 mins and then I gone for the local shops in here only. Lot of things you can buy which are made up off Bamboo with lacquer coating. Really awesome.

Shwezigon Pagoda is one of Bagan’s significant and impressive temples. Its massive golden stupa shines beautifully, especially in the sunlight. The site is well-maintained and has a peaceful atmosphere, attracting both locals and visitors. It’s definitely worth a visit to experience its beauty and cultural importance.

This is one of the most popular temples in Bagan and is well-known for being covered with gold plates. It was built by King Anawrahta during the reign of the Pagan Empire in the 11th century and was completed in 1102 AD. This pagoda is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha.
CK C — Google review
While touring with my guest in Bagan, I saw a large group of novices at one of the famous monuments. It was a very interesting sight, and I took this picture after receiving permission from the Chief Monk.
Gorgeous B — Google review
One of the largest and completely restored Shwezigon Pagoda, built in 1059, is the "oldest pagoda in Bagan". It is one of four most sacred pagodas in Myanmar along with Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. This is the founding pagoda of the Pagan dynasty. According to legend, a white elephant brought a tooth of Buddha and the place where he settled became this temple.
Denis G — Google review
One very old and beautiful temple at Bagan. Shoes are not allowed inside or at the compound of the temple and as such, it's advisable to go in the evening, to avoid the heated floor at noon. Great to capture the beauty of Shwezigon Pagoda with the lighting, cool evening and the locals offering their prayers. A great place for photography too.
Jared L — Google review
Such amazing and beautiful Pagoda it was the first place I have visited in bagan after long trip by bus coming from yangon. As it's the most sacred and important Pagoda in bagan ( they explain to me its contain bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha) What is also make it special this amount of the gold the Pagoda completely gilded in gold ..can you believe that 😲😲 It's also one of the largest Pagoda in this area with 160 ft height..the best way to reach there to rent Scotter and by the way it's not far from old bagan it's about 4 to 5 km. In this place you will have penalty of nice locations to catch awesome pictures ..afternoon is preferred time. If you come bagan you have to visit or your trip will not be complete
Moh T — Google review
Great big pagoda with lots of tourists. Walk around clockwise and check the small pool of water to get a picture of the reflection of the pagoda. There is a bunch stalls selling tourist souvenirs as well, remember to bargain for a better price.

Htilominlo Pahto, also known as Htilominlo Temple, is a significant Buddhist temple in Bagan. Constructed in 1211 by King Htilominlo, this enduring red brick structure stands three stories tall and features four Buddha statues within its inner sanctuary. Despite being damaged by an earthquake in 1975, the temple has been meticulously restored. The symmetrical floor plan and traces of old murals add to its charm.
Bagan is one of the most famous historical place in Myanmar for history of Buddhism. Thousands of pagodas, temples, statues around that places which built in 11th-12th century for the propagation of Buddhism. Thousands of visitors come to this place to visit and pay homage to the Buddha. It's a very attractive place to visit.

Htilominlo temple is the last Burmese-style temple in Bagan and is said to be the youngest ancient temple in Bagan with a history of more than 700 years. It was built by King Htilominlo in 1218. The temple is three stories tall, rising to a height of 46 meters with a length of 43 meters. Four Buddha statues in different directions can be seen on the first floor and top floor of the temple.

Big temple, free entrance ticket, good to spend time here, but we can't climb to temple to see sunset and sunrise anymore!
Ho T — Google review
Cool temple, one of the larger ones in Bagan, also near a bunch of smaller temples which are easy to stop off at on your way. Unfortunately this was one of the temples badly damaged in the 2016 earthquake, but restoration is underway to bring it back to the way it was before. This is definitely one of the top 10 temples you should visit if you're in Bagan
Gunnar C — Google review
One of my favourites in Bagan....I just like it. The feel of walking around in the courtyard, jus gives me a serene feeling. What could have been in the past, is replaced with the array of stores selling local handicrafts and souvenirs. But that does not take away the beauty and charm of this place. This place is where the story of the umbrella king will be told :) Nice story that adds to the appeal of the place for me. The architecture, the way the bricks were laid....
Christopher L — Google review
Htilo Minlo was one of the names of the king who built this eponymous temple in the thirteenth century. The architecture of the building is similar to the one found in several other temples in Bagan. The outside is built with red bricks and decorated with plaster moldings. The perspectives of several narrow hallways inside is what I liked most about Htilominlo. Several alcoves house a host of statues of various sizes. In the courtyard of the temple, there are a multitude of vendors selling their wares without aggressiveness. Htilominlo is a worthy addition to the list of temples that you will visit during your stay in this most fascinating part of Myanmar.

Bupaya is a sacred pagoda located on the bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River, featuring a bulb-shaped dome. It was originally built by the 3rd King of Pagan and is said to be the oldest stupa in Bagan. The design of Bupaya reflects the ancient Pyu style, with its cylindrical form and gourd-like shape.
Bupaya is a small but distinctive pagoda on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Its golden dome stands out against the water, creating a beautiful view, especially at sunset. While the pagoda itself is simple, the riverside location makes it a nice spot to visit and enjoy the scenery.

A lovely spot to enjoy views of the Irrawaddy River and stunning sunsets! It's open until late, making it perfect for a relaxing evening visit.
Hnin D — Google review

Bu Phaya Pagoda in Bagan was built by King Pyusawhti, the third king of the Bagan dynasty. Legend says he defeated five dangerous creatures troubling the land, including the wild gourd vines (“bu”). The pagoda was built where he cleared the vines, which is why it’s called “Bu Phaya.” The sunset view from this pagoda is absolutely stunning. And when a local kid offers to take your photo—just trust them. They’re surprisingly good at it!
J — Google review
Bupaya stands out as one of the finest spots to savor the sunset in Bagan. Adjacent to a local jetty, you have the option to embark on an hour-long boat tour along the river for a captivating sunset experience. The boat ride fee is a reasonable 20,000 MMK per boat, irrespective of the number of passengers. Whether you're solo or in a group (up to 15 pax), the cost remains the same, providing a consistent and affordable option for all.
Zin H — Google review
Skip the crowds quick and get down to the beach, hire a boat for a sunset ride in the Irrawaddy river. The view on both sides of the river is actually beautiful! The boat ride is nominally priced, yes do bargain hard.
Shubham S — Google review
Nice place, don’t need to spend much time there though. Great view, you can see the river or even have a walk there, there are stairs to the boats - they also offer tours. Nice to watch the sunset there, but you won’t be alone ;)
Laura S — Google review
One of the eldest pagodas in the region and I agree with other reviews, you really don’t need to spend much time here. Perfect view across the river and to the mountains on the horizon. Fishing and tourist boats line the sandbanks below

Ananda Temple, a grand Buddhist temple constructed in 1105, showcases remarkable architecture, sculptures, and paintings. The temple hosts the famous Ananda Pagoda Festival annually in January or February. Additionally, it is part of various other festivals throughout the year such as water festivals and celebrations for important Buddhist holidays. After renovation following earthquake damage, the pristine white walls of the temple were restored to their former glory.
Ananda Temple is possibly the most beautiful and architecturally complex temple in Bagan. Its stunning design, intricate details, and well-preserved structure make it one of the most impressive sites to visit. The combination of elegance and history makes it a must-see for anyone exploring Bagan.

Ananda Pagoda is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved temples in Bagan. Known as the "Crown Jewel of Bagan," it features stunning architecture, golden spires, and a serene atmosphere. I was excited to explore this iconic temple and experience its spiritual and historical significance.

This temple is very beautiful and the artwork inside the temple is very intricate and beautiful, the murals and sculptures are so amazingly alive.I guarantee that if you come there, you will not only have the opportunity to study the ancient arts of beautiful Myanmar, but also feel the ancient atmosphere. If you want to see the ancient works and worship the mighty Buddha, you should come to this World Heritage listed temple. But don't forget to follow the rules and be careful not to damage the most valuable ancient art and the temple for your sake.
Soungoo K — Google review
The famous temple of Bagan - and one of the big ones on the tourist circuit. This one has many sculptures of Buddha and other gods, displayed in the walls of the pagoda. The glass is not very clean so hard to appreciate them fully. Also, some more write up would be nice. Very interesting temple as it has a museum feeling about it. Many paintings from the local artisans will feature this temple’s golden spire.
Naman T — Google review
One of the more impressive temples in Bagan. Well preserved and maintained. Can walk around all 4 sides on both the interior and exterior of the temple. Lots of vendors near major entrances selling food, beverages and souvenirs. Exterior views are more impressive than interior in my opinion. Worth a visit!
Hunter S — Google review
I believe that it is one of the most impressive temples in Bagan. It is so beautiful in the sunset. The architecture is unique, amazing with a painful history. You can buy or take a look at some souvenirs from many vendors in front of Temple, so cute. You must to go there to finish your trip to Bagan.

Yet another beautiful twelfth century temple in Bagan. What attracted my attention to this one were the tops of the structure, all with heavy and well-maintained gilding that gleams in the sun. There are a couple of markets outside its walls that cater to locals and to tourists.

Sulamani Temple is a magnificent 12th-century Buddhist temple located in Bagan, offering breathtaking views and adorned with intricate carvings and statues. It is considered a top attraction in Bagan due to its grandeur and historical significance. Despite undergoing renovations following the 2016 earthquake, the temple remains a sight to behold. Built during the prosperous reign of King Narapatisithu, it stands as an elegant multi-storey structure from the late Bagan period.
Sulamani Temple is a quite beautiful temple, with well-preserved remnants of original paintings on its walls. The details of the artwork add a special charm, making it an interesting place to explore. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Bagan.
Tibor — Google review
Sulamani temple was built by King Narapatisithu in 1183 A.D. It is known for its symmetrical design and soaring domes, and is an example of classic Bagan architecture in Myanmar. It is located in the village of Minnanthu. Sulamani Temple had been restored after the 1975 earthquake, and was rebuilt in 1994.
CK C — Google review
Wow..,wow..,wow… I can’t believe my eyes to see the painting on every wall. I’m really interested how they still remain to 13th century to 21st century. Almost paintings are about Lord Buddha. Amazing views to see everything inside😍😍😍
Myo T — Google review
This temple has some great paintings - well preserved. What was interesting to see was that there seemed to be two layers of paintings from different times - and some script as well. Detailed paintings of stories with boats and people - we didn’t have a tour guide so not sure of the story behind it - would recommend going with one for the full experience.
Naman T — Google review
Sulamani Temple is a very popular place for tourists in Bagan, especially those looking for a sunset to remember. The temple at dusk reflects the reddish hues of the setting sun. The bricks of the temple become surrealistically saturated. Visit the temple, but also make sure to walk around it because the area is filled with smaller structures that are less known but definitely just as memorable.
Georges Y — Google review
One of the great temples in the archeological site in Bagan. Great architectures & huge construction. Tourists won't be able to visit it without own transportation
Peter Y — Google review
An imposing temple, lovely in the afternoon sunlight. Built by King Narapatisithu in 1183. Some well preserved or restored Buddahs. Also nice are the remnants of murals. I wish more was done to repair/reconstruct/preserve these paintings. There are repairs to the central spire in progress, hence the "green cap"

Dhammayangyi Temple is an imposing 12th-century structure in Bagan, featuring shrines, Buddha statues, and walkways. Commissioned by King Narathu to atone for his sins of assassinating his family members, the temple's eccentricity is reflected in its finely set brickwork and unfinished construction.
Dhammayangyi Temple is the largest temple in Bagan, known for its massive brick structure and mysterious history. Though unfinished, its impressive size and well-preserved exterior make it a fascinating site to explore. Inside, the corridors are narrow and dimly lit, adding to its unique atmosphere. Despite some damage, the temple remains one of the most striking landmarks in Bagan and is definitely worth a visit.
Tibor — Google review
This temple has a sad story relating to its construction. It was built during the reign of King Narathu (1167-1170) presumably to atone for his sins as he ascended to the throne by assassinating his father Alaungsithu and his elder brother. This is the largest temple in Bagan. The temple is not popular with the locals due to its tragic origin

Dhammayangyi Temple is beautiful. Its the largest temple in Bagan by volume. The history of this temple is really interesting. There are guides there to help you understand mlre about it. Its also a really good place to take photos and its a really big temple

Among all the temples in Bagan, this is the one I love the most. The building's blocks are thick, making it a fascinating place to visit. Historically, the king during that time wasn't viewed favorably. He is said to have killed his father and elder brother to ascend the throne.
Kyaw H — Google review
One of the big temples of Bagan - must see. Big walls surround the temple, and gates from four sides. The temple itself is massive - and very well laid out in terms of concentric structures. On a sunny day you can have a nice view of the surrounding area - there are a couple of vantage points near the rear of the temple area for good photos.
Naman T — Google review
This is the largest temple in Bagan and dominates the landscape with its imposing size. It was built in the late 12th century and remains incomplete. Even so, it is still an impressive spectacle to behold. Much of the interior is bricked up. It used to a popular sunrise and sunset fir tourists.
Pushan S — Google review
Amazing what royals will build when they’re advised by spiritual leaders? That’s pretty much the background of this huge complex. It’s really massive and reminds you Of a scene from tomb raider as you explore. Great views of the temple from raised mounds in the corners of the compound

Nestled just a short ride north of the iconic Ananda Temple, Golden Myanmar 2 Restaurant stands out among a cluster of dining options. This charming eatery offers an enticing buffet-style experience that showcases the rich flavors of traditional Burmese cuisine. Diners are treated to an impressive array of dishes, including succulent curries made from chicken, pork, fish, and mutton, accompanied by a delightful selection of pickled vegetables. The first round alone is enough to leave you feeling satisfied!
The best way to try Myanmar food for cheap. For 4000, you are given a set menu of over 12 dishes. Rice, vegetables, meat curries, dessert, the lot. Only about 60% of the food I liked, which is still incredible value. Service was very good and very fast, the food just kept coming!
Guest U — Google review
Nice cool place for lunch. Charged tourists 5000kyats per pax. Quite an assorted varieties of traditional Burmese dishes in small portions and raw fresh vegetables to be eaten with some paste or sauces. Make sure you test out the spiciness of some side dishes. The rice and dishes are replenished upon request with no extra charge. The cost does not include drinks.
Christine V — Google review
The myanmar buffet here is really delicious and worth it. There are chicken, pork, mutton and many other side dishes. The soup is really nice too. The juice is 1000. Quite cheap and tasty. All are fresh and the juices are good as well but sugarcane juice tastes bad. It looked brown and the taste is strange. There are flies which are quite annoying so be careful about it. Except that, I love this restaurant. The buffet for one person is 4000 kyats and for a kid is 2500.
Hnin D — Google review
Had a bad experience. Most of the food was cold (while it shouldnt have, like rice), the meat was obviously low quality with bones and fat, everything had some awful fermented taste... Could be that Burmese food is not my thing, but I enjoyed some local dishes elsewhere so I assume it has something to do with how they cook it there. I ended up tasting everything but eating very little, and left the restaurant hungry. I wouldn't recommend.

Good to try different kind of Burmese food in a buffet style with the price of just 5000 kyat per head. The best lime juice I have had in Myanmar!
Lydia S — Google review
Told my guide not to bring me to a 'farang place' that serves every type of cuisine in the world ;), so he brought me to this traditional Burmese restaurant in Old Bagan, which serves the traditional Burmese set, which is composed of over 15 dishes (4 curries of chicken, pork, fish and mutton, and assortment of pickled vegetables) for only 5000 kyat!!! I ate all the curries; the pork was my favorite. Left this restaurant very full. Best place to sample Burmese cuisine. Although I wasn't the only farang in the place, you can see it is 95% locals and full during lunch time. Always a good sign.

Myanmar Buffet restaurant. Five main courses mutton curry, chicken curry (Kyat Butee), pork curry, fried chicken and fried fish (Nga Gyin). Lots of side dishes around ten items. Taste is good. But the location is a bit dusty. Normally crowded and have to wait to be seated. Only 4000 Kyats for adults and 3000 Kyats for kid.

Weather Spoon's Restaurant and Bar in Nyang U is a popular spot for a nice lunch. While some dishes may not be very spicy or rich in flavor, the Lime Ginger juice and Lime juice ice tea are delicious choices to accompany your meal.
Great spot in old Bagan for traditional Burmese food. My wife and I visited in January 2020. We had a tea leaf and tomato salad which were both above average. We also had the chicken and beef curry which were also good. Pricing was very reasonable. I do wish the bathroom was slightly closer and cleaner but overall this is great spot for a quality dinner in old Bagan. Don’t miss it!

Nice and well visited restaurant, you need to wait a short while to be seated, until the seats are available. Staff is super friendly and really polite. Food is quite good, they have a lot of different food on the menu. I tried the veggie burger, Malaysian curry and the tea salad. Lime Ginger juice is delicious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lime juice ice tea ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tea Salad was super delicious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Burger was good ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Malaysian curry was just OK, but that doesn’t mean that you will maybe love it. I like to eat really spicy and rich of flavour, so for me it was a bit blend.

Pretty decent place. Went there for dinner one night, we were immediately welcomed very friendly and given a table. There were only other tourists there, but we didn‘t expect other. We got the fried spring rolls (nothing special) and the Myanmar vegetable tempure (good) and as our mains one soup, the potato-chicken curry and the shan noodles. Everybody was happy with their choice, tasted ok.

I love this place's ambiance! Very open with friendly and attentive staffs. Its always packed during lunch hours. The foods are great, ranges from local burmese, thai and western. My favorite is the Kailan Salad, very fresh and portion is enough for 2 people sharing. The Myanmar fish curry is also good. Price is affordable for the good portion.

Best place to eat in Bagan! I met the friendliest staff in this little corner, plus the food was incredibly good! You might not find it appealing at first, but give them a try and you’ll get surprised. I stayed in Bagan for 4 days and ate here day and night for 3 days in a row... simply the best. Thank you guys, lots of love from Barcelona 🤙🏼
Uri V — Google review
This place had the best, coldest, drinks of anywhere we had eaten so far on this trip. Both the lime juice and iced tea tasted fresh cold and refreshing. My wife had the fried vermicelli with chicken and vegetables which was generally OK and just a little salty. I had the beef burger which, despite their claim, was not the best burger in Asia (not even the best in Myanmar), but it was really good. It could have used a little more cheese and a little more seasoning in the burger. The fries were fresh cut and fried to crispy perfection. I had to dock them a star because of the speed of service, my wife got her food around 30min before I got mine and they never brought the 3rd lime juice we ordered.
Erik B — Google review
The place to go in Bagan, everyone knows! And it really lived up to its name. Although definitely not the cheapest option in town, it was still really good and worth the price. The shan noodles for 2,900kyats were extremely tasty and a large portion. The fresh lime juices really are as good as they say, try the one with mint for a mojito flavour, and the one with ginger if you love ginger, spicy but so refreshing. Also tried the pumpkin beef curry and tea leaf salad. Really good tea leaf salad. They also give you free peanuts on the table that you can get refilled as many times as you like = heaven. They also gave us banana with honey for dessert at no charge, a very nice touch.

Love it! Great drinks and desserts! Lots of foreigners here drunkenness and having burgers. We ordered fresh lime and mint drink, super refreshing for a hot day. They have a good WiFi. They also provide you with an English paper or magazine. You can just sit here and enjoy a drink while using the free WiFi. Definitely a good place to chillax. The menu also consist of a great combination of western, Chinese, myanmar food. They also have beer, liqueur and cocktails.

Sarabha 2 Restaurant is a delightful gem in Bagan that keeps drawing visitors back for its exceptional local cuisine. Having dined here twice, one guest fondly recalls their previous experience with the duck dish, which was just as delicious on this visit. The restaurant not only serves mouthwatering dishes like crispy sweet and sour duck and flavorful chicken curry but also has a heartwarming mission: training locals for careers in hospitality.
That is our second time in this place, exactly one year ago we visited by lucky chance this restaurant for the dinner, the duck we ordered was absolutely great! So we knew what to order) and we asked for crispy, sweet'n sour and with vegetables ducks, it was the same great as the year ago! Keep going this way guys, it's right destination, we know wehere we dine in Bagan next time! Thanks

Worst lunch in bagan. They treat as dogs. The food was completely tasteless. After we order carbonara and club sandwich they said they don’t have bacon. We have to wait like 5 minutes for the menu. The bill was 20500 and they charge me 25000 because y was paying with usd$.

Great local food. There's a social angle to this restaurant, where they train local people to get into the hospitality sector. With this twist, this restaurant serves some amazing local food and the service is great too. Gulp down your fish curry with some cold Myanmar beer and you won't regret it.

I wish I could give some of the reviewers here one star. Why would you order Western food in Bagan and expect it to be great?! Order the Chicken Curry Myanmar Style, it is very tasty with a nice level of heat.
David O — Google review
Place looks very nice (that is where it gains the extra star), staff was bit ignorant and given the prices the food was poor - both in taste and e.g. meat share in curry. Comparing to nearby Queen's restaurant, this is simple a don't-go place.

The Queen, a Burmese restaurant recommended by a hotel, offers an exceptional dining experience. The establishment boasts a pristine atmosphere and provides prompt and attentive service. With their reasonable prices, the Queen is a popular choice for visitors to Bagan. The food here is excellent, with generous portions that satisfy even the heartiest appetites. Diners can enjoy dishes like tea leaf salad and local cuisine accompanied by flavorful mushroom curry.
We come here every time we are in Bagan. The restaurant still serves good quality dishes. They simply changed their menu and removed the western food because they don’t have many foreign customers nowadays. The service is attentive, the portions are generous, and the prices pretty reasonable. I recommend it.

That Bin Nyu Temple, also known as Thatbyinnyu Temple, is a magnificent 12th-century Buddhist temple standing at an impressive height of 207 feet. It is one of the best-preserved and tallest temples in Bagan, featuring intricate details and receding terraces. The temple was built by King Alaungsithu and houses a giant Buddha statue for circumambulation. Located near the old city wall, it offers a glimpse into ancient architecture and history.
That Bin Nyu Temple is the tallest temple in Bagan, standing out with its impressive height and grand structure. While the interior is relatively simple, the temple’s scale and design make it a fascinating site to explore. It’s a great landmark to admire while visiting Bagan’s many temples.

This is a Theravadin Buddhist temple which is the oldest surviving school of Buddhism in Bagan, Myanmar. One of the big pagodas at Bagan. Superb architecture, and layout. You have to park or get dropped off at the gate, about 100 m walk then to the pagoda. Some shops around for water and souvenirs, and ice cream. The pagoda needs a bit of renovation - the guide told us they paint it after monsoon, so October onward it would look great. We went in July, when it looked possibly the most run-down.

#crd wikipedia bagan pagoda Pagoda of Omniscience (Pagan) Savannah Pagoda , Myanmar Mandalay Region Located in Bagan . It is located about 500 yards southwest of Ananda Cave Temple within the Pagan Nang city walls . Sabbanyu Cave Pagoda is one of the most famous pagodas in Bagan Pagoda, where the sound of the wagon axle is loud. With a height of more than 200 feet, there is a huge umbrella among other pagodas. The term 'sabnyyu' is often translated as ``seeing and seeing'' in the inscriptions of the Pagan era, so it is thought that it refers to the Buddha's omniscient mind that sees everything. How to see the Sabvanyu Pagoda (Pagan) from a distance Sabbanyu Pagoda Dayaka is the grandson of the King of Sis, who is the successor of the King of the Corpses . It is said in the history of the Buddha that the King of the Body of the Buddha, in 1144 AD, was built and worshiped in imitation of the great temple of Vithakha, built by King Maha Moggalla. Therefore, it is believed that the cave was not only used for worship, but was also planned for the use of the monks in the past and for the use of the temple. His height is 201 feet from his shoes to the bird's ear. As it dominates other pagodas, the place is even called Bagan Tower . Sabbanyu Cave Temple was used by monks in ancient times to study Priyattisawa and as a place of meditation. At dusk, which is considered to be the most beautiful time of Bagan, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Bagan from the top of the pagoda.

Another gorgeous Pagoda in old bagan with its special architecture. Consider as one of most important and iconic landmark in this area. It was built at 12th century and its the highest Pagoda comparing with others about 61 m tall. It's close also to the famous Ananda Pagoda. There is alot of shops around specially for food and most important ice cream. It's also a large temple and have a good space you can discover and hanging around.

Sometimes I wonder how I prefer to see an old temple. Would I want it to be left in a decaying state or would I want to see it restored to its original glory? That's exactly the feeling that I had when I visited Thatbyinnyu Phaya, which was originally built 900 years ago. The structure is in good shape but the whitewash is very dirty since the temple has not been painted in years. A fresh coat of whitewash will resolve the dilemma, but will it destroy the current look and feel of the temple?

With a height of 55 meters the Gawdawpalin is the second tallest temple on the plains of Bagan. Construction of the Gawdawpalin temple started during the reign of King Narapatisithu, which was a very prosperous time in the history of the Bagan empire. During his reign a number of magnificent monuments was built, including the Gawdawpalin, the Dhammayazika, the Sulamani and a number of less known pagodas and temples. The temple was completed during the reign of his successor, King Htilominlo in the early 13th century. The Gawdawpalin is a large two storey temple built in the style of the late Bagan period. It resembles the Thatbyinnyu temple, that was built half a century earlier in the year 1144. The structure is set on a low platform. The lower cube is surrounded by a corridor that contains a seated Buddha image on a pedestal on each of the four sides. The massive lower floor is topped by three receding terraces. The second cube is much smaller and contains the principal Buddha image. The cube is topped by another four receding terraces. Small stupas are placed on the corners of both the lower and upper terraces. The top of the Gawdawpalin temple comprises of a sikhara and a hti, a spire ornament shaped like an umbrella found on top of most Burmese temples. The sikhara, an Indian style tower structure is much like that of the Ananda, although the sikhara of the Ananda is completely gilded. Each side of the pagoda has an entrance with porticoes protruding out from the structure. The Eastern one is the main entrance and protrudes out more, which breaks the symmetry of the structure. The pediments over the windows and entrance gateways contain intricately carved motifs; some of the original stucco is still in place. Inside the temple are Buddha images seated on pedestals as well as a number of Nat spirit statues; most of the temple’s murals have faded. The temple grounds are surrounded by a wall with four entrance gates. The main entry to the complex on the East end is guarded by two large white lion statues. The Gawdawpalin has been extensively restored after the 1975 earthquake that seriously damaged the temple.

The Bagan Archaeological Museum is a must-visit for those interested in the history and culture of Bagan, Myanmar. It houses stone Buddhas, tablets, models of historic villages, and temples. Visitors can explore the museum at their own pace with a valid entry ticket for three days. The museum's first floor showcases visual arts and court women's coiffures, while the second floor features rooms with religious themes, inscribed stones, reclining Buddhas, and statues.
Humble but highly informative. It's a massive building but don't be intimidated. The exhibits inside are simple but full of useful information. If possible, visit here before touring the many temples in Bagan. Unless you are a historian specializing in the Bagan Period and other Southeast Asian cultures, you'll learn a lot of useful information about crosscurrents, architectural approaches, history, religious beliefs resulting in various depictions of the Buddha and more. I wish I had realized how I could have developed a sharper appreciation for /understanding of what I was seeing the previous day! Allow 1-2 hours. Almost every caption and sign provides English translations.

The Bagan Archaeological Museum sets lofty goals for itself. It manages to achieve some, while leaving a few questions unanswered. Considering the rich archaeological heritage of the city, I was expecting a larger collection of artifacts. I was not disappointed. There's still a lot of them at the museum. I just hope that, in time, the collection will grow richer and that the archaeological treasures of Myanmar will be saved for future generations.

In Bagan, "What a pagoda!" is a difficult proclamation to issue because of the sheer number of impressive structures. After visiting tens of ancient and beautiful temples, it's difficult to determine why one of them stays in your mind more than others. Shwesandaw stayed in mine, maybe because of the building's setback terraces and beautiful brick work. Then again, it may be the reclining Buddha statue in the Shinbinthalyaung Temple, which is next door to Shwesandaw and which has one of the most serene depictions of a Buddha face anywhere around.

Gu Byauk Gyi Myin Kabar is a small, ancient temple in Bagan, Myanmar, built in 1113 AD by King Kyanzittha. The temple is known for its rich history and impressive architecture influenced by India. It houses the Manuha Buddha Image dedicated by King Manuha and features some of the most remarkable paintings in any pagoda in Bagan. However, photography is prohibited inside to preserve the artwork.
This pagoda has probably the most awesome paintings in any pagoda in Bagan, unfortunately we couldn’t see much as you are not allowed to take your phone inside (so no light). When asked why couldn’t one take the phone inside, the reply was “because photos will damage the paintings” One doesn’t know where to begin arguing. You can however carry a torch, but they do not rent it at outside. You can leave your belongings (like phones) at the lockers outside.

The Gubyaukgyi temple, located just south of Bagan, Myanmar, in Myinkaba Village, is a Buddhist temple built in 1113 AD by Prince Yazakumar, shortly after the death of his father, King Kyansittha of the Pagan Dynasty. The temple is notable for two reasons. ( Wikipedia )
Kiyoko C — Google review
The Gubyaukgyi temple near Wetkyi-in village North East of old Bagan was built by King Kyanzittha in the early 12th century. During his reign the empire saw prosperity and the construction of grand temples like the Ananda and the Myazedi pagoda. The Gubyaukgyi’s architecture shows Indian influence, particularly the spire which resembles that of another temple in Bagan, the Mahabodhi. Both are based on the Mahabodhi temple of Bodh Gaya in India, the place where the Buddha reached enlightenment some 2,500 years ago. The Gubyaukgyi is a cave temple; the first syllable of the temple’s name (“gu”) translates to “cave”. The interior walls and ceilings are decorated with fragments of ancient mural paintings that depict scenes from the Jataka tales, the stories that tell about the previous lives of the Buddha. The temple is oriented towards the East, where an antechamber containing the entrance protrudes from the structure. On the other three sides are false entrances in which large stone perforated windows are fitted. The exterior walls were plastered with stucco. Some of the fine stucco decoration is still intact, especially on the Eastern wall and the main entrance porch. The Gubyaukgyi temple is topped with a spire. Unlike those of most temples and pagodas in Bagan its design is not bell shaped or cylindrical; its four sides are straight and diminishing in size towards the top. The temple’s interior is lit by daylight that comes in through large perforated stone windows. The first room from the Eastern entrance contains a large Buddha image seated on a high pedestal. The brick, plastered image is in the “Calling the Earth to witness” posture. The wall behind the image and the ceiling above contain well preserved murals with Buddhist depictions. The other rooms contain smaller images of the Buddha. On the North and South wall of the Gubyaukgyi are murals depicting the 28 Buddhas mentioned in the Tripitaka, the ancient Buddhist manuscripts that contain the teachings of the Buddha. Photography inside the temple is not allowed, as the flash light would damage the ancient murals.

Manuha Temple, dating back to the 11th century, is a significant historical pagoda in Bagan. Despite being rebuilt after an earthquake in 1975, it remains a unique site with cramped spaces housing three Buddha statues, including an enormous reclining Buddha that offers limited viewing space. The front hall features offerings of rice stacked by a giant golden bowl and is located across from a local market. Visitors can also explore the temple's backside with its large pagoda.
About Pagoda About the same time Makuta, captive king of the Thaton Kington (his name is now corrupted into 'Manuha'), must have built his colossal images at Myinpagan, where he was living in captivity, a mile S. of Pagan. "Stricken with remorse", says the Glass Palace Chronicle, "he built a colossal Buddha with legs crossed, and a dying Buddha as it were making pariniruâna; and he prayed saying 'Whithersoever I migrate in samsâra, may I never be conquered by another!' The temple is called Manuha to this day.

This is one of the oldest temples of Bagan, from 1067, named after Manuha, King of a Mon Kingdom in lower Burma. There are 4 HUGE Buddah statues inside - quite startling when you enter and too big to fit in a photo! Three are seated and in the back section is a 30m reclining Buddah. It is still a very active temple for worship with several other buildings and icons in worth seeing.
Vincent O — Google review
It was built by Manuha, the captive king of Thaton, in 1059 A.D. It is a reduplicated square structure with a battlemented terrace, the upper storey being smaller than the lower, so that the entire building appears to assume the form of a pyramid. It contains three images of seated Buddhas and a recumbent image of gigantic proportions representing the Buddha in the act of entering Nirvana. The temple is an allegorical representation of the physical discomfort and mental distress the captive king had to endure. The builder’s grievance is graphically demonstrated by the uncomfortably seated and sleeping Buddhas.
Dharmendra K — Google review
Very big buddha statues inside small building. As you walk along the narrow passage of the building, you will soon understand the depressed feeling of the captive Mon King.
Ceci T — Google review
Nice temple, widely regarded as one of the "must visit" temples, but compared to some of the other temples in Bagan, I wasn't blown away by it. Certainly the allure of this temple is more in its history and age, rather than its scale and architecture. About as far away from Nyaung-U as you can get in a Bagan temple (though one of the closest to New Bagan). If you have the time, you should absolutely see this temple, but that said I don't rate it in the same category as the Ananda, Dhammayangyi, Sulamuni, Shwezigon or Shwesandaw, or even the the Thatbyinnyu, Dhammayazaka, Mingalar Zedi, or Htilominlo category, so make sure you see all of those (plus a few more I neglected to mention) before you make your way here
Gunnar C — Google review
If you go there you will find that the buddha statute is big while the pagoda or the building is so narrow. The head of the Buddha touches the roof. It was said that the name of the pagoda was named as the Mon king who was arrested and made to live there. The structure was to express his feeling living unfree at that time. It is interesting to learn about the history!

🌅 Breathtaking Sunset at Lawkananda Pagoda – A Hidden Gem in Bagan! If you're exploring Bagan and looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy a magical sunset, Lawkananda Pagoda is a must-visit. Nestled quietly on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, this golden pagoda offers not only spiritual significance but also one of the most stunning evening viewpoints in the entire region. Unlike the more crowded temples in Old Bagan, Lawkananda has a calm and serene atmosphere. The pagoda itself is beautiful, with a golden stupa that glows warmly in the setting sun. But what truly sets this place apart is the panoramic view over the river and the horizon—especially at dusk. As the sun slowly dips behind the distant hills, it casts golden reflections over the water, creating an unforgettable scene that feels almost sacred. Many locals and a few lucky travelers gather here in the evening to relax, reflect, and take in the peaceful vibes. You’ll see monks walking by, families sitting quietly, and photographers lining up for the perfect shot. It’s a great place to escape the tourist crowds and connect more deeply with the spiritual beauty of Bagan. 📍 Tips for Visitors: Arrive about 30–45 minutes before sunset to find a good spot and enjoy the slow change of colors. Bring water and a small mat if you want to sit comfortably and spend some quiet time. Be respectful—this is an active religious site, so modest dress and calm behavior are appreciated. Whether you’re on a spiritual journey or just love beautiful views, Lawkananda Pagoda at sunset is a truly unforgettable experience. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well worth the hike from old to new Bagan. A big, imposing Pagoda on the river bank. It is a bit crowded with local sellers, but nothing out of the ordinary. The stones get extremely hot in your feet. Stay on the white marble.

A stupa on a small hill looking over the majestic Irrawaddy river. At its feet is a small bustling collection of food stalls selling tea, pea rice topped with a luscious fried egg, steaming milk, grilled shrimp, corn on cob, and fried baby shrimp fritters. A great stop for breakfast and prayers while temple running around Old Bagan.

A golden Pagoda which was built from 11Century , enshrined Buddha replica tooth relic inside and local pilgrim believe this one as one of the auspicious temple in Bagan. You can get nice river side sunset view from this place.

During the day it's hot so can't do much walking outside or around the pagod as no sandal's allowed, go straight to the Buddha image small room in the office area and bow and MEDITATE for a bit, it's more worth it, if you need a toilet funnily enough down to the side they have a nice shaded area with a big banyan tree.

San Thi Dar is a charming restaurant with a cozy atmosphere located beside the road. The staff and owner are friendly and accommodating, offering complimentary nuts to start and fried banana or water at the end of the meal. The menu features various food options, mainly vegetarian with some vegan choices available. While some dishes were noted to be a little oily, the generous portions and homely local food received high praise.
Spoilt by choices by the friendly chef, just so many complementary dishes, the potato curry then the sweet wheat dumplings!!! We could find these only here in yeh entire Myanmar, this was some sort of family recipe. The sweet sour chicken with rice was a hit! Tea leaf salad was refreshingly different. Perfect place for lunch Or dinner stop, enroute new-old bagan

lovely place , nice and helpful owner and staff , cozy atmosphere, just beside the road , so it could be a little noisy. always gave us some nuts to start and fried banana and/or water at the end for free... absolutely recommend .usually they open from 10 to 21 except sunday at 11 to 21. various food, mainly vegetarian, vegan options available , some of the courses were a little too oily for us.

While we were not the biggest fan of the tofu salad, I'd still give this place 5/5 rating for good homely local food. We didn't know the tofu in tofu salad would be raw, probably would have been nicer if it was fried. Still good though, but portions were incredibly huge and generous. Ordered the fish curry too. Pretty cheap affordable local food, off the back of someone's house.

Really nice food and place! Owner really kind and also sweet! Bacause here is really hot, even give us a huge bottle of ice water and the fruit, peanut for free, really recommended!

I don't know what is better if the delicious food or the beautiful people who run the restaurant. I came here every day I was in Bagan. The tofu is homemade, the best I've ever eaten!

Their fruit shakes are the cheap and accessible stars of this restaurant but the family-run establishment holds another secret - all of their food is painstakingly prepared and cooked by the mum as you order, ensuring Burmese authenticity and goodness.
Rovik R — Google review
Really tasty food and friendly mom n pop. Reasonable price. It’s more like a bargain. I had to lower the evaluation by one star because it just became a tourist’s pool. Last time they had more relaxed atmosphere that they were able to chat.
Hisashi O — Google review
Very nice family cafe with good prices. But this is not enough to be good! Disadvantages: 1. Very, very, very dirty! The glass for beer was stained in clay and something else I prefer to forgrt... I asked to replace, but owner just smiled broadly, said "sorry, sorry" and returned the same glass wiped with a dirty rag. 2. You can wait for the order up to 40 minutes! 3. The food is very oily! Curry is 90% of oil and you can not feel the taste. 4. Soups are not delicious! Do not take!

The King Si Thu Restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including fried vegetables and steamed fish. However, the vegetables were actually steamed instead of being fried, and the fish was poorly cleaned and partially raw. Despite the high prices and low quality, patrons can enjoy a pleasant view. Furthermore, there is a significant 50% discount on the total bill, indicating that customer feedback is taken into consideration.
We went to The King Si Thu Restaurant without knowing that the place is closed since Covid-19 era, but yet, the owners welcomed us warmly and served the best food we had in Bagan. The service and the view were super awesome, and the place is spacious enough to serve more than 200 people. I highly recommend this place, especially those coming to Bagan in group.

Went there to check out the sunset. Great view and decent service if it is not busy. Cost is higher than most places in new Bagan but I guess you're paying a premium for the location and view. A big bottle of Myanmar beer is 4000 kyat. I wasn't even offered a food menu.

This was FRIED vegetables and steamed fish. Vegetables were steamed instead of fried and fish was 30% raw and cleaned bad. Price is very high, quality is low. But the view is good. And finally total price was 50% discounted. So they listen to clients.

This restaurant offers a picturesque view of sunset at the Irrawaddy River. However, the price is expensive (I believe that all riverside restaurants are expensive). The food I had was not the best and the table we had our meal on was uneven. Nevertheless, it is recommended to come here once and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Dhammayazaka Pagoda, a Buddhist temple built in 1196 during King Narapatisithu's reign, is a distinctive circular pagoda located in the remote area of Bagan. Its large bell-shaped gold stupa with red clips at the base stands out, and visitors can walk around the brick structure to admire the terra cotta craftsmanship on the terrace depicting Jakata tales of Buddha's previous lives.
One can see rare terracotta plaques of Buddha stories. Located near Phwar Asaw village, quiet and the architecture is truly impressive. Shouldn’t miss temple to visit in Bagan.

Dhammayazika Pagoda (ဓမ္မရာဇိကဘုရား) is a Buddhist temple that was build in King Narapatisithu (King Sithu II) reign in 1196. Located in the remote area of Bagan in Pwasaw village on the Eastside Dhammayazika definitely standout from the crowd because of the large bell-shaped gold stupa with the red clipped on the based from the restoration work. You can walk around the brick structure pagoda through the walkway to admire the craftsmanship of ‘terra cotta’ on the terrace (Jakata tale’s of Buddha previous lives)

Charming pagoda, it's special as it has 5 sides compared to the usual 4. I've been there with a local guide Christopher and it was great to learn about the place from a local with a deep historical knowledge. Do yourself a favour and get a local guide for at least one day, it will make your travels so much more interesting and your horizons will broaden. :)

Such a magical place to see when in Bagan. They are restoring the top of the Pagoda so there is a bit of work happening but doesn't interfere with your walk around. Must see when in Bagan
Chris A — Google review
One of the more unusual temples (most have a square floor plan, but this one has a pentagonal layout with entrances on each of its five sides) and one my favourites.Besides images of the four previous Buddhas, the fifth structure holds an image of the Maitreya Buddha, the future Buddha! The pagoda was build by King Narapatisithu towards the end of the 12th century to house of sacred Buddhist relics given to him by the King of Sri Lanka. It's set in beautiful park like garden, so lovely to stroll around and admire from a distance.
Vincent O — Google review
The name of the pagoda, Dhammayazika or Dhammarajika in Pali means "Pertaining the King of Law. The structure of Dhammayazika Pagoda has pentagonal terraces instead of the usual Bagan pagodas, the square base. There are three receding terraces, ornamented with glazed Jataka plaques. On each side of the pagoda, there is a small temple housing an image of Buddha. The usual practice in most temples was to have four images facing the cardinal points, representing the four Buddhas of the present world cycle who have already attained Enlightenment. But in this pagoda the fifth temple is placed with the future becoming Buddha. All the five names of the Buddha are Kakusandha, Konagamana, Kassapa, Gotama and Metteyya. The inscription records say tht in 1197 King Narapatisithu received four holy relics from the King of Sri Lanka and that he built the pagoda in 1198 to enshrine the relics.
Dharmendra K — Google review
Beautiful temple, in the night they’re doing a light up, the view is stunning. There are a lot of shops in front of the temple.

My favorite temple in Bagan. It features a pentagonal layout with five side temples housing buddhas. The main golden Pagoda is under repair from earthquake damage. It is a little out of the way but with a bike or ebike it is easy to get there.

The Pyathetgyi Pagoda, also known as the Pyathadar Gyi Temple, is a remarkable brick temple located in the southeastern part of old Bagan. Built in the 13th century by King Kyaswa, this massive structure stands as one of the few remaining double cave monasteries in the area. Although its construction was not completed due to the king's passing, it remains a significant historical and religious site.
If you are lucky enough to get the chance, try to come here for the amazing sunset view of the Bagan temples. From the flat roof of this Pagoda you have a 360 degree panorama of hundreds of temples in the surrounding countryside. This is one of the most amazing sights you will see anywhere!

Bulethi Pagoda is a serene hilltop temple in Bagan, offering stunning panoramic views of ancient structures and sunsets. Tucked away from the crowds, this dusty and quiet environment provides a peaceful setting to admire the small brick structures and larger pagodas. While climbing on the pagodas is no longer allowed, the surrounding smaller stupas make for picturesque photo opportunities. Located near Anawrahta Road, it's a tranquil spot perfect for capturing beautiful photographs at dawn.
There are no crowds and quiet and beautiful place at the dawn. A little bit of low height of terrain so sun will not be as clear as other high places but it's a nice place for beautiful photographs.
Htet Z — Google review
If you like to be away from the crowds like some of us do, if you don't mind dry and dusty environments and if you are not looking to climb on top of a pagoda, Bulethi temple is just the place for you. I found this place by chance while driving around aimlessly on some of the back roads of Bagan. My Burmese driver and I were the only ones around. There are several small brick structures and two larger pagodas. The dusty setting brings them all together in one beautiful panorama.
Georges Y — Google review
The place is amazing really, but from this year you can't go up to see the sunset,so try somewhere else, and there is just a lot of people trying to sell you paintings, they kill the mood a bit.

Nice group of temples right off Anawrahta Road on the way towards Sulamuni and Dhammayangyi. They are gated up now so no longer available to climb to watch sunrise and sunset, so if you plan on doing so anyways (which you shouldn't) know that it will now require some climbing on ancient ruins rather than walking up steps

Nice ancient pagoda of many amazing ones in Old Bagan. This one has some nice looking smaller stupas around, so looks photogenic on pictures. Still a nice spot to view the sunrise if you want some place quiet, but it's a shame you can't scale the temple anymore to do so, despite sources saying you still can. Probably for the better, however, but I was left wondering what the viewpoint could have been.

The Moon Vegetarian Restaurant in Bagan is a must-visit for delicious vegetarian meals. With a variety of curries, including the popular Massaman curry with coconut rice, and a clean restroom, it's a top choice for vegetarians. The friendly owner and extensive vegetarian menu make it an ideal spot to enjoy dishes like tealeaf salad, guacamole with nachos, samosas, and more.
Very cosy and delicious restaurant who serve vegetarian and a bit of occidental dishes. Guacamole, samosa and Shakshuka were delicious. By far one of the best restaurants we’ve been too. The owner is also very nice and kind service.

Excellent Vegetarian Restaurant in Bagan! This is by far the best restaurant in Bagan! We ate here twice—once for lunch and once for breakfast—and everything we tried was absolutely delicious and fresh. We had the guacamole, samosas, shan noodles, ginger salad, fresh smoothies, and pancakes. Every dish was bursting with flavor! The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff speaks excellent English. Highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Bagan. We’ll definitely be coming back on our next visit.

Solid vegetarian restaurant with great salads and curries. We had the glass noodles which were really nice. The service is unfortunately what let's this place down - there is a fantastic waitress but the rest of the waiters are very surly. Be warned that orders do take a fair while and service is really slow.

We come here because 1 of my friends recommended that this place is a must try in Bagan, and we do not regret. Excellent vegetarian restaurant. We have tons of curries which are best among lots of curries we tried in Yangon and Bagan. The people's choice award should go to Massaman curry with coconut rice. In addition, the rest room is clean. They have a very nice slogan, "be kind to animals". However, it should be note that you may have to delay your meal if it is windy.

Shwe Gu Gyi Temple is a small 12th-century Buddhist temple complex in Bagan, Myanmar. It was commissioned by King Alaunsithu in 1131 and is one of the most intact temples on the site. The temple features arched windows, huge teak doors with intricate bird carvings, and ancient inscriptions.
Shwe Gu Gyi Temple is a beautiful and easily accessible temple in Bagan. It offers great views of the surrounding area from its upper levels. The exterior carvings are impressive, though the interior is simple. There are many souvenir shops around, so expect a lively atmosphere with vendors. It’s a good place to explore while taking in the historic charm of Bagan.

This temple is more impressive from the outside- I was disappointed with the poor conditions and limited access inside. It was built by King Alungsithu in 1141. The Hotel at Tharabar Gate in Bagan is a quaint and charming property situated right at the edge of the old city, making it an ideal location for exploring the historical wonders of Bagan. Our family had an incredible stay here, and the hospitality was truly exceptional. Had a two day stay here. The breakfast buffet tastes amazing with various food and snacks ( juices and coffee ). The restaurant is open from 6am to 9.30pm and the food tastes great(expensive but worth it). The swimming pool is open for house guests with beautiful garden and amazing atmosphere. Located in a convenient place. The interior design is spectacular. The only downside is that their wifi is not very high speed.

Hotel Tharabar Gate was an excellent choice. The staff was very friendly, courteous and professional. The room was a bit dated, but very clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and you get extra pillows if you ask. A lot of great storage space. The AC a bit old and slow, but working ok and when there were power cuts the hotel generator quickly kicked in so no problem also during the night. The hotel has beautiful grounds, a well maintained pool with comfortable sun loungers. The restaurant and bar is open all day and serves a very nice breakfast, good coffee (small extra charge for latte etc.), juices, smoothies, drinks, snacks and they also have restaurant for lunch and dinner. The spa offers massages unfortunately only open to 5 pm so if you go sight seeing all day the spa is closed when you return to the hotel. Overall an excellent choice for Bagan, in the middle of the sight seeing area, small shops and restaurants close by. Tuk tuk available in front of hotel, if needed.

With so many options of places to stay in Bagan, I would highly recommend The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate! You can't beat the location, staff, and food! Bagan is amazing, but Tharabar Gate made it that much more special. From the second we arrived to the hotel we were greeted with helping hands and big smiles. Check-in was a breeze and as we were guided to our room, we were told about all the amenities of the hotel (in both English and Chinese), where we could get our hands on some electric bikes, as well as which temples to check-out first! The rooms were huge with plenty of space to unload our bags. The bed was super comfortable, there was a great workspace facing the window, and the bathrooms were equipped with everything you would need. With regards to food, the breakfast was fantastic and had everything you could imagine from yogurt, fresh fruit, ready to order omelettes, to a local breakfast. Dinner was especially delightful with the entire garden lit up with a reflection off of their stunning pool. When we return to Bagan, we will for sure stay here again!
Travis B — Google review
The rooms were simply dirty. The towels were always having some kitchen and stinky smell. No matter how many times we asked them to change the towels, they were always the same. I suppose they didn't dry them properly. The floor was never mopped. In general, you could see that the hotel needed serious maintaining. But the worst of all was that dirty green swimming pool! We told them that we came for the pool and they didn't care at all. They just told us that they had too many people for Thingyan. So we wasted 3 days watching that frog pond and when we were checking out, surprise! The swimming pool was clear again! They just received a new wave of local guests so it made sense to clean the pool. Of course, it wasn't necessary to do it for a few guests. Only the garden was worth the trip.

The hotel is perfect. The rooms are clean, spacious and beautiful. The staff were super friendly and helped us to arrange e bike rental. We love the environment of the resort and enjoyed walking around. The food of the restaurant was great and we love the tea leaf salad. The spa was also amazing and the therapists were professional.

Amazing hotel. Beautiful villas with high quality finishes. Pool areas were lovely as was the gardens. Staff of course were lovely

Wonderful place, great location, the only thing I would suggest the hotel to improve is the breakfast. If you like eggs or Asian breakfast it's no problem. But if you want a continental style breakfast, none of the food is fresh. That's to say the bread or pastries aren't fresh and don't taste great. Lunch and dinner are fine but overpriced so we always had great lunch, better lunch actually and dinner, not far from the hotel. Other than that it's a great hotel!

This lodge is a wonderful and peaceful place to stay in Bagan. It offers big and well furnished rooms and here too the bathroom is worth an extra comment as it is perfectly done the way it’s arranged and designed. The restaurant offers food of good quality and the staff does its best in fulfilling the wishes of the guests. The swimming pools are nicely integrated in the gardens of the lodge. And I also want to mention the garden. It’s impressively diverse and simply beautiful. The feeling to be at Bagan Lodge is similar as if you‘d be somewhere in Africa on a safari. It‘s breath taking.

Great hotel and staff, definitely another level of accommodation and quality compared to other properties I had the misfortune of trying in the area. Spacious rooms with plenty of windows and big patio, immaculately clean (rare in Myanmar!), great staff who can actually speak English and answer your questions (also rare in Myanmar!). Lovely hotel grounds with curated gardens, 2 big swimming pools and most importantly very quiet for a relaxing stay. Highly recommended!

Our three nights stay was part of our honeymoon travel and it was an excellent experience. We had a very warm welcome and enjoyed top quality services such as dinner in the restaurant. People from the staff is very kind, they are constantly wishing to help and provide a very comfortable relation with the hotel itself.

We had a very pleasant two day stay here. The room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the staff very professional and kind! A lovely romantic break for my husband and me.

My boyfriend and I booked 10 days at Bagan Lodge. The beautiful scenery, and the staff really made our experience here worthwhile. Special acknowledgement to the Morning restaurant Supervisor (she is fantastic), Thein the chef, and Chan Myae the table waiter, and the night manager of the hotel. Amazing hard working people! The facilities are clean and organized. We had a lovely spa experience with experienced staff. They went above and beyond to provide us with daily snacks as a little surprise in our hotel room; small touches such as these made our experience here great. Excellent housekeeping. Happy Hour 2 for 1 was a nice perk! The breakfast had a nice range and was better than any other Myanmar breakfast we had. The only cons would be: overpriced costs to rent a ebike scooter (Rent from Nyo Nyo a few minutes away instead); Book tours outside of the hotel because transport and guides end up being much more expensive through the hotel. The laundry prices were also ridiculously overpriced. However, If we come back to Bagan, this is where we will stay because we had an overall subperb experience! :)

Bibo Restaurant is a charming eatery that perfectly blends traditional and modern Burmese cuisine, all while offering a relaxed atmosphere with outdoor seating. Located in the heart of Bagan, it stands out for its affordable prices, making it accessible to everyone. Diners can indulge in an array of dishes ranging from flavorful Thai and Burmese options to Western favorites like their unique green tea-infused burgers.
Excellent food and cocktails and great service. We went on a whim, and it was a great find. Very American, semi fusion? But well made food. Bamboo charcoal buns are surprising, a little sweet and complement the sandwiches well. Atmosphere is also very inviting. Highly recommended.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. The food selection and quality is great with a number of vegan choices if you feel that way inclined. We dropped in a number of times during our stay and there was always something on the menu at lunch and dinner that we enjoyed. They have a great happy hour for cocktails and quite the cocktail menu too!

Excellent restaurant. Very good located, great service and of course, delicious food. Here I tried the best hamburger of my life. I had the opportunity of talking with the owner of the place who was the inventor of this delicious dish. The bread of the hamburger has a green color due to green tea leaves, the most original thing I have seen in a hamburger. It also contains avocado, pineapple, cheese and you can choose between beef and chicken. All of the ingredients mixed together in a perfect flavor. I got so delightful that I ate the hamburger three times. Very delicious and original!

Great place, the staff is great and the atmosphere is pretty good. The food is good, and if your looking for a great place to relax this is definitely one. The prices are reasonable if your on holiday, as a backpacker maybe not so much🙈 You will see a lot of tourist here, so if your looking for some western it’s definitely the place. The menu is great they have a bit of everything! I would definitely recommend the chicken curry! Best in town👌
Mikkel S — Google review
Mediocre food (more for westerners' taste buds), small portion (not for big groups) and expensive pricing. Burger buns were burnt. A lot of houseflies. They did very well on the potato soup and tea leaf salad.

Amazing. A must while in Bagan! My wife and I dined here in January 2020. The tea leaf salad is amazing — one of the better ones we had in all of Myanmar. The curry was better than what we could find on Yangon. Service was excellent. Restaurant is well priced and atmosphere is romantic. Only complaint is that bathrooms could have been nicer and closer. Definitely stop by!

I was surprise at the quality of the food. Possibly the best and only western food I have eaten there. It was quality ingredients with tad bit of burmese touch. They put white sesame in the guacamole spread for the nachos, which gave it a light and nice fragrance. The BLAT burger as well as chicken teriyaki burgers were well done too.

Great food! Great staff! Highly recommend this place. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up eating here twice! The second time around the staff saw me swatting at a mosquito and offered me some repellent spray - very kind of them and not something I've experienced at other restaurants.

Nestled in the heart of New Bagan, Elodie Restaurant is a culinary gem that showcases an impressive array of cuisines from around the globe. With offerings ranging from Sichuan Chinese to European delights like French and Italian dishes, as well as Thai and traditional Burmese fare, there's something for every palate. Signature dishes include duck à l'orange, chicken with basil, Tom Yum soup, Yunnan fish specialties, crispy duck, fried rice, and authentic Myanmar curries.
The restaurant is run by a wonderful and smiling Family. The food was delicious. It tasted great and the portions were very large. The owners of the restaurant were very nice to me and treated me like a member of their family. I am very grateful to you for that, because I felt wonderful with you. It's a pity that we were in Bagan for such a short time, because I would eat meals in this restaurant every day. Thank you very much, you are wonderful people!!! ❤️

Very nice restaurant. Good food, local and other food. The lady was very friendly and helpful, spoke decent English. They are very grateful for customers and it showed in their service. Tourists are far and few between currently so they will appreciate customers, we are visiting from USA and wish we found this on our first day in bagan and not the last day or we would have eaten here every day for lunch. Great place definitely reccomend.

Stayed in New Bagan for four days. I was so pleased to find this restaurant. If you are in New Bagan area, you must go to try out this restaurant. The restaurant opened this year. When you walk in the restaurant, Tartar, the owner, already makes you feel like a friend. She told us the restaurant is catering to tourist, so all the food are washed with distilled water. No worry about clean water issue. Also, unlike some other restaurants, she bought fresh fruits every morning. The juice and smoothie were fresh and delicious. I like the salad and the curry dishes. I tried a few places, but end up visiting this restaurant every day for the last three days during the stay. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere is very nice and price is very reasonable also. Worth visiting! I definitely go visit again next time when I’m back.

The food is delicious, love at first taste, the owner is very friendly and cute. The restaurant space is very cozy, suitable for dating. Must try pineapple juice 🫶🏻❤️

A must visit, if you are in New Bagan..tasty food at a good price and griendly staff aside "where all the tourists go". For each taste you have something there and you are for a change asked if you want sugar added (instead of assuming you want). The traditional dishes are definately worth going there.

It is my first time writing a review and I must say that dining in Elodie Restaurant is a delightful experience! Visiting Bagan last week, me and my boyfriend headed to Elodie for dinner. The atmosphere was really nice and the food was lovely- it was tastyyy! Moreover, as we finished dining, the lady was so nice that she asked about our dining experience and at last offered us to try the fried banana with honey and it was sweet and yummy! Definitely worth a visit when you visit New Bagan!
