Kitakitsune Farm, also known as Fox Farm, is a compact wildlife facility offering a close encounter with various fox species in a semi-natural environment. Visitors can observe the adorable Ezo red foxes and raccoon dogs while learning about their habitats. The farm provides ample photo opportunities and features a souvenir shop for keepsakes. With an admission fee of 500 yen for adults, visitors can explore the open space where the foxes roam freely.
I saw a lot of reviews saying the place is boring and that the fixes we're sleepy - this is definitely not the case! They were all running around and playing with each other
Elisha A — Google review
Foxes roam “free range” in this relatively large compound (compared to its numbers). However not much interaction allowed (no feeding, no petting). So not much to do here. Some souvenirs to buy. A quick tourist stop place.
James W — Google review
The place was good. Good for the kids and families to drive to this point. There are many foxes around to see them very close. But beware it’s very smelly due to many animals inside. You are not allowed to squat to take pictures as they may jump on you. The fox are freely moving around and you are walking in the path with them. Some foxes were looking sick and going through some treatment. We took off route to visit this place and you may do so if you wish to.
Ravish M — Google review
probably the best place to see red foxes! there’s so many cute ones playing and running about, seems pretty fluffy (will be fluffier during winter!) very friendly and they will not intrude into your personal space while walking. the smell isn’t even bad at all, i don’t know what the other reviewers are talking about lol if you own any pet, their poop smell is waaaay worse than the foxes here. they roam about freely and frolick in the grassy hills 🦊 tickets are super cheap too. perfect place for fox lovers like me!!
Lucia — Google review
Locally run place, lots of foxes roaming around. Short route around the fox enclosure takes about 5-10 mins to complete. Can get quite close foxes but not allowed to touch them. Cost 500yen per person for admission. Worth a visit if passing by!
Ivan G — Google review
Not recommend, many have skin problem and theyall of them not few in good condition, seems sick and not active, not to see may only take 5 minutes not worth to go
Chris C — Google review
It's an experience considering may be outbofbthe way. There many foxes running around and there's even 1 racoon dog. Do not feed or touch the foxes. Tickets are affordable.
Benedict C — Google review
Very concerned about the "fox farm" and I do not recommend this place to anyone. First of all there were many signs telling what not to do but nothing about the red fox or why these foxes are even there. I asked and was told they just live there and reproduce. I was hoping it was a fox rescue or at the very least a place to learn and study the red fox. Upon entering there were a couple of foxes pacing as if looking for a way out. Then as we stepped into the the enclosure there are about 20+ young foxes in a glass enclosure. Some sadly just pacing back and forth. In my opinion way too many for comfort. Then we saw 2 very sad looking raccoon dogs in another glass enclosure. The outdoor enclosure was long but many were pacing and some looked very sickly and all were scratching. For me, it was a very sad place to visit.

The Northern Daichi Aquarium is a small yet high-quality freshwater fish exhibit situated in the Onneyu Onsen area. Featuring simulated habitats, including a waterfall and frozen river, this aquarium offers an immersive experience for visitors. The tanks are well-maintained with flowing water to simulate the natural habitat of various fish species. Additionally, there is a small touching zone where visitors can feel some fish up close.
Small aquarium. If you are nearby, worth visiting. Takes only 10~20 minutes.

Very small but interesting fish exhibits which includes skin eating fish where you can dip your hands in for cleaning :) ~30 -40 mins for the whole tour

a place with a large garden, there is a unique building in front that attracts attention but at first I thought it was the main building. but the main building is on the side with a small bridge made of wood. tickets cost 760¥ for one adult. There isn't a very large aquarium inside, but the collection of fish is arranged in a charming, clean, orderly aquarium with lighting that creates a relaxed atmosphere. What was surprising was that the exit was directly connected to the souvenir shop. many types of wooden crafts, herbal things and snacks. more things can be seen in this shop actually hahaha which I think is really funny. but don't regret going here.
Kiku K — Google review
Impressive freshwater aquarium! Some of the larger fish probably should be in a larger tank but overall a very nice local aquarium. All the tanks were well maintained and the displays were informative and interactive.
K S — Google review
Love this wonderful aquarium! It's small, but the creatures and tanks are very well taken care of. I love it that many descriptions of the fish are handwritten in a cute and fun manner and that the staff are so involved with the whole aquarium! 😄 it's one of the most enjoyable aquariums I've visited and will definitely go again if I'm in Kitami.

A nice roadside surprise with quite a few native trout and some South American fish, too. Small tanks and a bit overpriced, but worth a 20-minute stop, more if you browse the souvenir shops and have a soft cream.

History Museums
The Kitami Mint Memorial Museum offers a deep dive into the history of mint farming in Kitami, showcasing its role as a global mint producer in the early 20th century. Visitors can explore the museum's thorough explanations of mint history and its impact on shaping the town. The friendly staff and extensive range of mint-related goods at the gift shop add to the charm of this place.
A cute little museum that gives you a very thorough explanation of the history of mint and how it built the town of Kitami. The staff were super, super friendly and they deserve all the love they can get. The gift shop has tons of mint and mint-related goods, so be sure to check it out before you leave. Can't recommend this place enough.
Daniel C — Google review
I love quirky museums like this - but there’s genuinely a huge amount of history in this area, which used to provide 70% of global mint supplies. The second world war wrecked that, but this building (which is reconstructed but sits on the site of the original factory) goes into a lot of detail about how everything worked and the equipment used. The man who greeted me was friendly and was keen to explain the layout. There are two ten-minute videos in English on the history of it all, and Google Lens can help with the exhibits’ captions. There’s an adjoining building with a shop and a few more bits and bobs. Genuinely fascinating, and free!
Kevin Y — Google review
Ok… this is a very interesting place. It’s not really the best for English speakers. Nothing is translated into English so you just have look. Still, it’s interesting to look at everything. And let’s be serious, you don’t anything about the process of making mint and menthol (at least I didn’t), so you’ll learn something. A big plus to the whole museum is the staff. Everyone was super friendly and happy to show you all about the exhibits. It’s a cute place with a lot of mint gifts you can buy. Worth a visit if you’re in Kitami.

I love mint so I really loved this museum. It showed the history of the mint industry in Kitami and how the oil is extracted. They also showcase different kind of mints and displays lots of mint related products.

We went there specially for the ice candle event, which was held for one weekend. It was really pretty.

A quaint little building that has been carefully conserved. The gentleman manning the place spoke a little English and took the time to show us around which was really helpful as the media depicting its history were all in Japanese. Could tell he loved his job which made our visit all the more memorable. The lady manning the shop next door was wonderfully warm and friendly despite it being closing time when we entered. She too spoke a little English.
Kim C — Google review
Kitami itself is limited in terms of sightseeing spots. However I actually learnt much here regarding its history of peppermint production, and the staff here are super friendly and kind, deserving of all the stars I gave.

Amusement park
Kitami Family Land is a small amusement park that's perfect for families with kids of all ages. The best part is that admission is free, and the short distances between rides mean minimal waiting times, making it popular with families. For a small fee, visitors can enjoy mulberry picking for less than two hours. The park offers various activities like mini-golf, animal interactions, and a petting zoo.
The seniors working there were all so passionate and welcoming! Our family of 10 felt extremely touched with their service. It’s an old-school theme park which is difficult to get elsewhere. If you’re holidaying around the area, please visit them. The elderly seniors would be really happy to see you there! The uncle even specially passed a train conductor’s cap to my son for photo taking! Every senior worker was so happy to see us there. You can really feel their joy. We felt like super VIPs 🤣 they were welcoming us from one ride to another. Well maintained theme park despite the history!

Fantastic place to spend time with family. My kids love this place. You can also do picnic here. We generally take our own food and enjoy the whole day here. In public holidays, it is very crowded and you have to wait longer in lines for the rides! So, you should go there with enough time if you want to enjoy all the rides with the whole day pass.
Angkush G — Google review
I ran into Kitami Family Land while driving through the region on a roadtrip, and decided that I might as well stop and check out the park. The park, while older and looking a bit rough on the outside, has a certain charm to it. Behind the rust is a lively, cheerful place with fun rides and amazing staff. It's a place where people gather to have some fun. You'll definitely want to check this place out, particularly a ride called "Crazy Mouse"!

(Translated by Google) It's a small amusement park, but there are some thrilling rides so it's quite fun! There's no admission fee, and if your child can ride the rides, the unlimited rides pass will definitely be worth it! The food isn't too expensive either. There are plenty of vending machines, and even an ice cream vending machine. It might not be enough for junior high school students or older, but elementary school students should be satisfied. Nestled in the heart of Kitami City, Sobakō Roan is a must-visit for soba enthusiasts. Made from high-quality buckwheat flour, these noodles boast a smooth texture and an aromatic scent that elevates your dining experience.
(Translated by Google) First, warm soba tea is brought to you along with your cold drink. I ate Tenseiro. I think the tempura consisted of 2 shrimp, 1 perilla, 1 sweet potato, and about 10 pieces of burdock. I'm happy to have two shrimp. In addition to the soba soup, pink salt was also included, and the tempura eaten with this salt was delicious. You will receive a small rice ball as part of the service. Is the soba a little thin and the amount is small? I thought so, but after eating the rice balls, I was just full. The part-time guy in charge of the hall? It felt good and I would like to go again. Thank you for the meal. I tried the chicken soba at this restaurant in Kitami and was impressed by the flavors and value. The soba was delicious and came with a complimentary onigiri, which was a nice touch. Additionally, the restaurant had good AC, which was much appreciated during the hot summer weather. Overall, I highly recommend this spot for anyone in the area looking for a tasty bowl of soba.

Thin, chewy noodles that go down your throat 👌 In the second half, I changed the taste with the tempura that came with it...this is also good😋 The cutlets in the small cutlet bowl are delicious 🤤 The fried onion is irresistible lol If the katsudon tastes bland, you can get extra sauce 👍 I really like it here 😋 Thank you for the meal🙏 (Original)

(Translated by Google) This is a popular soba restaurant in Kitami City. I had the Seiro Omori (Omori Soba). The shredded soba noodles were delicious. If you look closely? There is a black star inside the soba noodles, so I wonder if they are using buckwheat flour that is closer to the soba shell. ? Therefore, it had a nice scent and felt smooth when I sipped it. I also thought that the rice balls that came with the service were a good way to rest your chopsticks. If I had to say it, it seems like the soba noodles aren't big enough. The hot soup duck steamer seems to be popular among men, but I saw many of them adding a second helping of soba noodles (700 yen). I also ate a large portion of Seiro. I thought it would still come in. 😅🙏In the end, I settled for the sobayu, which was cloudy and seemed to be filling. It was delicious. If you're on the hunt for an authentic yakiniku experience, look no further than YAKINIKU HORIGUCHI. This charming eatery is run by a friendly family who also operates a butcher shop, ensuring that the meat served is incredibly fresh and of high quality. It's not smelly at all, has a refreshing taste, and you can eat a lot of it. This is one of the restaurants I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kitami. The owner takes orders based on the customers' orders. There's not enough meat... no additional orders... etc. If it's sold out, it's sold out, sorry, isn't that enough? Also, there were arguments between the staff, or rather, an older woman was verbally abusing the owner. All the time. So that the customers could hear. It was the worst. Do that at home. The owner, for his part, spoke ill of his employees, saying things like, ``Our staff are stupid...'' They serve such good meat, so I hope they will respect each other and operate in a friendly manner. The way it is now, the atmosphere doesn't really make me want to go back. Personally, I never want to go back. Restaurant No. 1 Restaurant No. 1 that makes me angry just thinking about it.

(Translated by Google) I think the meat is delicious. However, the owner's service makes the taste zero or nothing. Or maybe it's a minus. The emperor's new clothes is this owner in a very real sense. Where does he go wrong, where does he get it wrong? He doesn't understand the basics of customer service. I think the owner should be taught how to serve customers before he starts bossing around what appear to be part-time employees. Finally, what does it mean to say "don't burn the grill" at a yakiniku restaurant? If you hate it that much, why not just sell the sauce and the uncooked meat?

(Translated by Google) The meat was incredibly delicious. The offal was especially outstanding. The owner has a very strong personality, and I could sense his bad attitude toward the staff. I also accidentally started a fire with the oil from the meat and was told not to burn it. Afterwards, he explained to me that if the meat started to burn, it could cause a fire, so I understand why he was being a bit harsh. Other customers continued to start fires despite being warned multiple times, and finally the owner couldn't help but tell them not to burn the meat. As a result, the customer became upset and started behaving badly toward other staff members, and on his way out he slammed the door with incredible force, creating a tense atmosphere. I think the owner's words were not nice, but I also thought the customers were pretty dangerous.

(Translated by Google) A famous restaurant in Kitami, eastern Hokkaido❣️ Kitami is a Yakiniku town, and you can't go wrong with the meat here🍖. Although it's a little far from the center, it's always full of locals. Please be sure to make a reservation before going. You can meet the master's special meat. Sagari and Maruhoru are exquisite.
