The Sri Thirukoneswaram Kovil is a serene location that houses a Hindu temple complex in a picturesque setting with breathtaking sea views. It is worth visiting regardless of one's religious beliefs as it offers an opportunity to explore the rich culture and traditions of Hinduism. The temple complex is located amidst several shops selling various items ranging from toys to sweets. However, visitors need to adhere to strict dress codes for both men and women while visiting the temple.
Perched atop Swami Rock, Koneswaram Kovil offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, welcoming all visitors with a modest dress code and a serene atmosphere.Free parking is available near the temple entrance, though it can get busy during peak times.

Thirukoneswaram Kovil in Trincomalee is one of the most beautiful and spiritually significant places to visit in Sri Lanka. The temple is located on a breathtaking cliff surrounded by the Indian Ocean, offering spectacular views of the sea crashing against the rocks below. The atmosphere here is serene, making it not only a place of worship but also a destination to experience peace, history, and natural beauty all in one. At the entrance, a large and majestic Shiva statue stands proudly, welcoming visitors and adding to the sacred atmosphere. This impressive statue is a highlight and a perfect place to pause for photos and reflection before heading into the temple. The surroundings are full of life and charm. You will often see spotted deer wandering freely in the area, and visitors can even feed them, which is an unforgettable experience. Monkeys are also a common sight, adding to the liveliness of the environment, although you should be cautious with food and belongings around them. From the parking area, it takes about a 10-minute walk to reach the temple. This short walk is enjoyable as it passes through a lively pathway filled with small shops selling souvenirs, ornaments, religious items, fresh fruits, and cool drinks. The walk itself feels like part of the experience, offering a glimpse into local culture and traditions. Overall, Thirukoneswaram Kovil is a must-visit attraction in Trincomalee, combining spiritual significance, natural beauty, wildlife encounters, and a touch of local culture in one unforgettable visit.

Thirukoneswaram Kovil is truly a breathtaking and divine place that fills your heart with peace and devotion 💫🙏 Located high above the Trincomalee Bay, this ancient temple offers one of the most stunning ocean views in all of Sri Lanka 🌅 The moment you step inside, you can feel a deep sense of spirituality and history surrounding you. The temple is beautifully designed with vibrant statues, colorful paintings, and detailed carvings that reflect centuries of faith and craftsmanship 🎨🕉️ Every corner feels alive with stories of gods, legends, and devotion passed down through generations. The sound of bells, the scent of incense, and the sight of devotees praying create an atmosphere that touches your soul 💖 Standing at the edge of Swami Rock and looking out at the endless sea is an experience you’ll never forget 🌴🌊 The blend of nature’s beauty and spiritual energy makes this place truly magical. Watching the sunset from here feels like a blessing from above 🌞✨ The priests and devotees are kind and welcoming, always ready to share the temple’s history and traditions with genuine warmth 🤝 The surroundings are clean and peaceful, making it a perfect spot for meditation, prayer, or quiet reflection 🕯️ Thirukoneswaram Kovil is more than just a temple — it’s a spiritual journey filled with beauty, devotion, and tranquility 💐 If you visit Trincomalee, you simply cannot miss this sacred wonder that shines with divine energy and breathtaking views ❤️🌺

Visiting the Shankari Devi Shakti Peetham in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, was a profoundly spiritual experience. Nestled beside the majestic Koneswaram Temple on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, this sacred site, one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas, radiates divine energy. Though the original temple was destroyed by Portuguese invaders in the 17th century, the rebuilt shrine still holds immense significance, with a serene ambiance enhanced by the sound of waves and the sight of the Bilva tree against the ocean backdrop. The temple’s rituals, including Puja and Arathi, are performed with great devotion, creating a peaceful and blissful atmosphere. The presence of monkeys and deer around the temple adds a charming touch of nature. The location is less crowded on weekdays, making it ideal for quiet reflection. I recommend visiting between September and February for pleasant weather. The dress code is traditional—sarees or churidar for women, dhoti or trousers for men—so plan accordingly. A must-visit for spiritual seekers and those drawn to the divine legacy of Shankari Devi

Thirukoneswaram Kovil in Trincomalee is a breathtaking Hindu temple perched on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. Known as the “Temple of a Thousand Pillars,” it offers both spiritual serenity and stunning panoramic views. The temple’s ancient Dravidian architecture, colorful sculptures, and sacred atmosphere make it one of Sri Lanka’s most revered religious sites. Visitors often feel a deep sense of peace while exploring its shrines and witnessing daily rituals. The surrounding Swami Rock and nearby Lover’s Leap viewpoint add to its charm, making Thirukoneswaram Kovil a must-visit destination for those seeking culture, devotion, and natural beauty.

A good place to visit while in Trincomalee. Situated in fort Fredrick. Very crowded during the weekend. The Lord Shiva devotees should visit the place. This place is having historical connections to Ravana of Lankapura.

Koneswaram Temple or Tirukoneswaram Kovil is situated on top of Swami Rock. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, and it is one out of five such temples situated around Sri Lanka. It is believed that this Kovil has been in existence since 2500 years ago, and was renovated by the South Indian Chola King Kulakottan and maintained by other Sinhala Buddhist Kings. In 1622, the Portuguese destroyed this temple which they referred to as the temple of a thousand columns by shoving the temple over the edge of the cliff into the deep blue seas below. The revered Shiva lingam (mark of Shiva) was subsequently rescued by divers. The Portuguese used the building materials of the temple in the construction of Fort Fredrick. Car parking place is near very closer to Kovil hence people who has difficulties in walking even can visit this beautiful place. Many wild animals like monkeys, deers and variety of birds can be seen living peacefully

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fort Frederick, a historic granite and rock fort constructed in 1624 by the Portuguese using debris from a destroyed Hindu temple, is a significant landmark in Trincomalee. Adjacent to the fort lies the Maritime and Naval History Museum, housed in a colonial building that was once the residence of the Dutch Naval Commissioner. The museum showcases artifacts from the Dutch rule and is considered one of the top tourist attractions in Trincomalee.
Old fort in Trincomalee containing also an important Hinduism temple. Fort Frederick itself can be visited with entrance tickets: you can do a small tour of the different places composing the ancient fort with nice views on the city and the natural port. This ticket will also hello the site to train preserved.

A Fort built during the time of the Portuguese. It’s maintained by the archeological department and you need to buy tickets to explore it. There are ruins of old bunkers, and look out points, and weapon mounts. Interesting if you’re into history, you might need about and hour two depending on how much you like to look and learn. They need to add more signs to explain.
Ruckshani R — Google review
Overlooking the calm waters of Trincomalee Bay, Fort Frederick stands as a symbol of Sri Lanka’s colonial past. Built by the Portuguese in 1624 using stones from the destroyed Thirukoneswaram Temple, it later changed hands to the Dutch (1639) and British (1782). Each power expanded the fort, drawn by its strategic position above one of the world’s best natural harbors—a legacy of conquest carved into stone. I wish if they can show more details and directions inside the fort.

A beautiful historic fort overlooking the stunning Trincomalee Bay. Originally built by the Portuguese in the 1600s, later used by the Dutch and British. Today, it’s home to a small military base, but visitors are welcome to walk through and explore. You can enjoy peaceful surroundings, old stone walls, deer wandering around freely, and a breathtaking view from the top near the Koneswaram Temple. Perfect place for history lovers and photographers. 📍 Location: Trincomalee, Sri Lanka ⭐ Best time to visit: Morning or evening for cooler weather and soft light for photos.
Wajira A — Google review
Built in the time when Portuguese invaded, it has changed hands to Dutch and to English, there is an army camp in this location and the Kodeshwaram temple separately. There is a small fee for locals and different fee for foreigners ( been told its too expensive) The views are stunning and the overall fort is spectacular, The Kovil was destroyed by the Portuguese back in the day and the statues are still underwater near tye sawmi rock, the dives is about 80 feet and an experience of a lifetime, the water has such a unique colour, Do this if you can, any local dive centre will take you there if you ask for " Swami rock"

The view points were gorgeous, without these the entrance fee for the rest wouldn't be worth it. It's interesting to note that the history of the area, but there isn't lots to see and not much information about the historical aspects. If you're going for some nice views and a wander, great! If you're going for the history, I think most would be disappointed due to the lack of information.

Fort Fredrick, perched in the heart of Trincomalee, is more than just an ancient fort – it’s a living piece of Sri Lanka’s layered history. Built originally by the Portuguese in 1624, later occupied by the Dutch and British, the fort has seen centuries of colonial power struggles, yet today it stands calm and welcoming to visitors. The drive through the fort’s gates feels almost surreal the main road runs right through its massive stone walls, lined with towering trees and shaded pathways. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful, with deer freely roaming about, adding an unexpected charm to this historic site. The fort also houses military installations, so certain areas are restricted, but visitors can still explore sections that lead to breathtaking views of Trincomalee’s coastline, including the famous Koneswaram Temple perched on the cliff’s edge. The blend of colonial architecture, sacred sites, and scenic ocean panoramas makes it a unique stop in the city. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a camera, and keep an eye out for the friendly deer that often wander close to visitors.

Military Museums
The Maritime And Naval History Museum, housed in a restored 17th-century Dutch commissioner's residence, showcases a collection of naval artifacts. The museum features models of ships, naval knots, insignia, antique cannons, and exhibits on underwater coastal life. Established in 2013 near Fort Frederick, the museum is situated at the site where the Dutch first landed in Trincomalee.
Really interesting spot if you’re into history. The place has a nice collection of shells and maritime relics, plus some beautiful old cannons displayed outside at the entrance that instantly catch your eye. The best part was being able to climb up to the rooftop for a view over Dutch Bay. The building itself is impressive but honestly looks a bit run-down, and inside some of the rooms had no electricity, so I ended up using my phone flashlight to look around. Entry is free, though they do accept donations, which feels fair considering the condition of the place. Overall, it’s a beautiful and atmospheric place, but it clearly suffers from lack of funding and maintenance.
Dmytro M — Google review
The museum exhibits interesting historical artifacts and shares vast knowledge about the maritime vessels along with facts on Trincomalee harbor. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The building and the surrounding premises are badly in need of an upgrade. However they said that they were out of tickets since it's a weekend (Sunday) so we were asked to pay Rs. 100 per head. I saw some reviews which said they were free to enter while others have paid only Rs. 20 per head, so it wouldn't be certain until you visit. The lights were flickering in certain exhibit areas and some exhibits were in the dark. There seemed to be a few empty rooms and the place doesn't seem to be well maintained. They must give priority for the renovation.
Shenu S — Google review
A sadly underfunded and neglected gem with many interesting exhibits. The building itself is of historical interest. Parking available, entrance free.

Historical building displaying range of maritime artifacts. Diarama illustrative of key Sri Lanka naval events. Shows national intent to preserve significant buildings.
Thomas S — Google review
An understated museum in a beautifully restored historic building. It tells the long history of trading and the navy in a small number of exhibits. The staff are very enthusiastic and will put on an interesting 10 minute video if requested. There's a good view over Dutch beach from the roof. No entry ticket but voluntary contribution at the end.
Mike L — Google review
Setting foot inside this museum is like travelling back in time. It primarily showcases the naval history of Trincomalee. The guide passionately describes each exhibit in detail which makes it more enjoying. You get to know a lot about the region. The museum is open everyday between 9 am to 4 pm except Tuesday. Entry fees are LKR 100/= for foreign adults and LKR 50/= for foreign children. Though its a small museum but for me, it's one of the best museums I have visited around Sri Lanka.
Time I — Google review
Shows the history of invasions and changes overtime in the country and around the area. Officials who looks after the place got good knowledge and willing to explain the history of the items on display. Building was in ruins and was rebuilt. They have done a brilliant job in restoring the building. You can see pictures of its former state. Can climb to the floor around the roof where you can get good views of the sea front.
Samitha D — Google review
You must visit this place when you travel to trinco. This is a very good place to explore the naval history of Sri Lanka. a lot of knowledge and information can be obtained here. The building is restored well. It is free for all. A lot of monuments and artifacts can be seen and it all preserved well. Parking available.

Pigeon Island Diving Centre in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka offers an unforgettable diving experience. The center is known for its professional and friendly crew who ensure safe and accommodating diving experiences. Visitors can trust the center for whale watching tours and multiple dives in the beautiful Trincomalee Bay and Pigeon Island. The instructors are highly praised for their clear instructions, making it a great spot even for first-time divers or those with limited swimming abilities.
I recently had my first-ever scuba diving experience with Pigeon Island Diving Center in Trincomalee, and it was an absolutely unforgettable adventure! As a beginner, I was a bit anxious, but the staff made everything so easy and stress-free. They explained all the safety guidelines clearly, were very professional and friendly, and made sure I was completely comfortable before getting into the water. The dive itself was incredible — exploring the underwater world. We saw beautiful coral reefs and colorful fish. The visibility was amazing, and I felt safe and guided the entire time. The equipment was clean and well-maintained too. Before the dive, we also went for snorkeling at Pigeon Island, which was another breathtaking experience. The marine life and coral views just near the surface were stunning. We also joined the dolphin watching tour, which was really fun. We saw several dolphins swimming near the boat, which was a magical sight. The team even made an effort to look for whales, but due to the slightly strong winds these days, the whales hadn’t come close to the shore. Our boat rider tried his best to locate them, but we just didn’t have the luck this time. Still, we appreciated the effort and enjoyed the ride. Overall, I highly recommend Pigeon Island Diving Center for anyone visiting Trincomalee — especially if it’s your first time diving or snorkeling. It’s a safe, exciting, and memorable way to experience Sri Lanka’s incredible marine life.

We had the best scuba diving experience ever with Pigeon Island Diving Center! From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel so safe, welcomed, and excited. They took the time to explain every single detail in the most patient and friendly way, which helped calm our nerves as first-timers. You can really tell how passionate they are about what they do, and that made all the difference. The dive itself was absolutely unforgettable—breathtaking underwater views, vibrant marine life, and the most calming, supportive guidance throughout. They turned our first dive into a memory we’ll never forget. We couldn’t have asked for a better team to share this with. Truly grateful for such an amazing experience. Highly recommend them to anyone visiting Sri Lanka and looking to try scuba diving—it’s an absolute must!

I truly recommend this place to anyone who loves to experience diving, especially beginners!

We visited the diving centre on 14th June 2025 and had a highly positive experience. The staff were professional, welcoming, and demonstrated a strong commitment to providing quality service. The diving instructors, in particular, were well-experienced and highly knowledgeable, offering clear guidance and practical tips tailored to each learner’s needs. Their calm and patient approach helped build confidence behind the wheel. The overall environment was well-organized and supportive, making it an excellent place for anyone seeking to develop or refine their diving skills.

We stopped by the Pigeon Island Diving Center quite spontaneously and ended up doing six fantastic dives. The dive instructor Shyam guided us with a wonderful sense of humor while always keeping a strong focus on safety – both during the briefings and underwater. This gave us complete confidence, allowed us to learn new things, and made every dive an absolute joy. The staff member Sabeena welcomed us so warmly and organized everything with great care. During the breaks we were even served tea, and as a special extra, besides our own shots, we also received GoPro photos free of charge. Both of them truly grew close to our hearts – Shyam as an outstanding instructor and Sabeena with her kind and thoughtful support. This is a dive center where you feel completely safe, warmly welcomed, and among friends – all while discovering beautiful dive sites. Absolutely recommended! 🌊🤿✨

Marble Beach, nestled near Trincomalee, is a breathtaking destination renowned for its unique rock formations and stunning azure waters. The beach derives its name from the smooth, marble-like stones that line the shore. This picturesque spot is ideal for sunbathing, picnicking, and soaking in panoramic coastal views. With soft sands and crystal-clear waters, Marble Beach offers a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation or engaging in activities like snorkeling and swimming.
Marbel beach is under the supervision on sri lankan air force. Need to buy tickets for entry (rs 20 per person both local and foreign) then there's a charge for vehicle entry also. It is bit far from entrance. Cant really walk there. It is a beautiful protected beach which ia safe for swimming and watching sunrise. Reccomended to visit early morning or in afternoon when water is cooler. There is some fish that swims around you. This is a.plastic.free zone..and there are monekys at car park. So do not bring food outside of vehicle. (Not reccomended) There is a small.resturent on beach, ice cream.shop.and.juice bar. Not many options avilable and sometimes shops are.closed. no.external vendors are allowed in. O.bring your own drinks and food if needed (from outside). Part of beach is separated by roap and reserved for those have permission from airforce to enter. But public access part is plenty big. This beach.is.not.very popular among tourists yet so its still quiet & beautiful. If you visit, leave it as you found it. Bring back all your rubbish. There is showers avilable at beach (avvess free) but their water is bit salty. So.if.u swim in beach, have a quich shower there but take a shower again later else where (else hair will become stiff with salt)

Marble Beach is beautiful but can not see any waves. It is like a tank but anyone can swim and enjoy the sea water there. In order to enter you have to buy a ticket which is really affordable ( 0.1 - 0.3US$ ). Vehicle parking is also free. You can find drinking water for free too.
Asela M — Google review
A stunning, quiet beach with minimal facilities. Entrance fee is 50 rupees only. Feels very safe and its beautiful. Beach looks like it's kept clean. There are toilets, not cleanest but not stinky, so still okay (ALWAYS BRING TOILET PAPER!) Theres a drinks and tiny snacks shop (crisps), but no real food. Better to bring some food with you if you hate walking in the heat. I was one of the few ladies in bikini there, but I felt okay. I saw some navy/police guy patrolling there, I think that's why it stays calm. In a 10-15 mins walk you can get to Marble Beach Resort to eat good, diverse food. I read a lot of negative reviews about that restaurant but the food I ordered there was good and prepared quickly.
Renate M — Google review
When you first arrive at Mable Beach, the entry process is pretty simple. You purchase a ticket for just Rs. 50, which gives you access to both the hotel grounds and the public beach. After that, you drive forward and reach a Y-junction take the left turn for the hotel or the right turn for the public beach. The public beach is free with your ticket. It’s nice but can get quite busy during long weekends or public holidays. On a regular day though, it’s fairly quiet with just a few people around. We decided to check out the hotel side, which is partially managed by the Sri Lanka Air Force. They offer a really good day-out package for Rs. 2000, which is worth it in my opinion. With this, you get: * Access to their private beach (only for hotel guests), * A buffet meal, * Use of changing rooms, * Plenty of comfortable seating by the beach, * Plus, optional activities like scuba diving and water sports in the mornings. The private beach is spotless, peaceful, and not crowded at all a huge contrast to the public side. The views are stunning, and it’s the kind of place you can really relax without interruptions. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, which made the whole experience even better. The hotel also has rooms you can book on a full-board basis. While we didn’t stay overnight, the rooms looked clean and decent, making it a nice option for a longer getaway. Overall i would say Mable Beach turned out to be a really refreshing escape in Trincomalee. Whether you just want a quick dip in the public beach or a more relaxed, all-inclusive day by the private shore, there’s something here for everyone. For us, the day package was definitely worth it clean beach, good food, and great vibes.

Beautiful quiet sandy beach suitable for swimming 40 minute drive from Trincomalee. It costs 20 rupees per person (August 2025) to enter via a Police gate. There’s a small snorkelling centre on the beach, but the places to buy food and drink were closed when we visited. Also don’t be put off by the rubbish strewn car park. The beach is clean and largely litter free.

Seafood restaurant
ISSO - Prawn Crazy is a restaurant in Sri Lanka that specializes in serving prawns prepared in the local style. The establishment offers dine-in, takeout, and delivery options. The restaurant features a well-designed interior with a pleasant ambiance and attentive staff. Customers can enjoy seating both indoors and outdoors, with ample parking available. Visitors can expect delicious prawn dishes, including a signature prawn curry that bursts with flavor.
The environment is very comfortable, and the air conditioning works great, making it a relaxing place to dine. The staff is friendly, and their attentive service enhances the overall experience. While the prices might be a bit high for locals, as a tourist, I found the quality and taste of the food to be very satisfying. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Tricomalee—the cuisine here is definitely worth a try!

If you’re a seafood lover, Isso Prawn Crazy Shop is a must-visit! The moment you walk in, the aroma of fresh, sizzling prawns hits you — and that’s just the beginning of the flavor-packed journey. The prawns are incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. Their signature spicy prawn curry is a knockout — rich, bold, and full of authentic Sri Lankan flavors. I also tried their grilled prawn skewers and the creamy butter prawns — both were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable for the quality you get. The vibe is chill and welcoming, and the staff are super friendly and helpful when it comes to picking your spice level or dish preferences. Whether you’re a spice lover or someone who just wants to enjoy fresh seafood in a relaxed setting, Isso Prawn Crazy Shop delivers a great experience. Highly recommend!

ISSO – Prawn Crazy is a great choice for seafood lovers. The prawns were fresh and packed with flavor, and the dishes were well-prepared and satisfying. The restaurant has a clean, cozy atmosphere that makes for an enjoyable dining experience. Service was friendly and quick, adding to the overall positive impression. While there’s a bit of room for improvement in variety or portion size, it’s definitely a spot I’d recommend for a tasty seafood meal.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visited the ISSO outlet in Trincomalee yesterday and had a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely delicious 🤤 we ordered the Freshwater king prawns 🦐, Chicken burger with sweet potato fries and Banana spring rolls with ice cream for dessert. The Prawns were fresh, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The Chicken burger was flavorful with a crispy patty and soft bun and the sweet potato fries were a perfect side, crispy and tasty. The dessert was the highlight 😊 crispy Banana spring rolls paired beautifully with the ice cream. It’s my second time dining at ISSO but first time at the Trincomalee outlet. Loved the beautiful interior designs and friendly, welcoming staff. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Today I visited ISSO Restaurant in Trincomalee . The restaurant was very clean, The food was amazing as always, with that same authentic taste in Colombo ISSO we’ve loved from the start. I saw the staffs working happily. They gave 15% to local this is a good plan . I am looking forward to the upcoming seafood BBQ in 3rd floor with sea-view.

We had lunch at Isso during our stay in Trinco. Food and service were great considering it was during peak hours. I hope the restaurant would do something with the flies. I understand that this is inevitable when serving seafood, but a candle per table would be a big help. It can be annoying having to shoo away flies every other second.
Lala B — Google review
We were living near the ISSO restaurant for several days and always passed by, because we thought it looks expensive - we were so wrong! The prices for the food quality is definitelly adequate, and the portions are generous! Everything that we ordered was delitious! The tuna, prawns kottu and deserts were fantastic! Definitelly recomend!!!
Gunita E — Google review
If you're in Trincomalee and love seafood, Isso is a must-visit spot. This restaurant specializes in prawns and offers a modern, laid-back atmosphere that still manages to feel upscale and beachy. The vibe is relaxed, with open-air seating and a coastal decor that adds to the charm. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering easy and enjoyable. I ordered the Hot Butter Prawns — they were crispy, spicy, and absolutely packed with flavor. I also tried the seafood fried rice, which was generous in portion and rich in local spices. The freshness of the ingredients and the bold Sri Lankan flavors really stood out. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size. Whether you’re into mild dishes or something with a kick, there’s something for every seafood lover on the menu. Highlight: The tamarind dipping sauce that came with the starters was addictive — sweet, tangy, and perfect with the prawns. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy delicious, fresh seafood in a relaxed yet stylish setting by the sea. Let me know if you'd like a more casual version, or if you'd like to include specific dishes or feedback from your own visit!

Vegetarian restaurant
Annapoorani Vegetarian Restaurant is reputed to be the top-notch meat-free eatery in town. Despite its small size, the establishment boasts exceptional cuisine that caters to vegetarians. Moreover, their menu offers a diverse range of delectable plant-based dishes at reasonable prices. The proprietor of this establishment is known for being unpretentious and supportive. While the ambiance may not be extraordinary, it certainly has its own charm that patrons appreciate.
This restaurant is very wonderful. The prices are very cheap for everyone, even if you are a tourist. The food is clean. This restaurant serves only vegetarian food. Just for information, but it is one of the most beautiful Sri Lankan and Indian vegetarian food. The location of the restaurant is next to the Hindu temple and in front of the bus station.

The food here is quite good, and what surprised me the most is how affordable it is. If you're looking for delicious vegetarian options without breaking the bank, this is the place to go. I especially loved their Kottu with soyameat; it was a delightful combination of flavours. Also the portion size was really good.

Vegetarian food in Trinco, really near Dutch Bay. We paid 1020 rupees. Rice and curry, some snacks (savory and sweet -3) and a ginger beer. The waiter was really attentive. Tasty food, good environment and nice vibes. I reccomend it with my eyes closed. Coming back soon if you are at the area!

One of the best places I have found in trinco town to have a good meal. This is a vegan place with very big verity. Food is not expensive and place is also cleaner when compare to most places nearby. Limited seats available so its getting bit busy with people on meal times. But a pace to try.

Friendly and affordable place to try vegetarian Indian style food. Bonda and those are a must try.

Restaurant
I had a pleasant experience at Arafa Hotel, where I tried their Beef biriyani for lunch. The rice and curries were delicious, although the beef was a bit tough. However, it had a unique taste and if you order it, I recommend asking them to cut the beef before serving. I also ordered an extra portion of babath, which was amazing but unfortunately sold out for seconds. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Would visit Trincomalee again just for the food at Arafa Hotel. Problem with Trincomalee in general is it’s very hard to find affordable food places, it’s mostly terrible food priced exorbitantly. Until we found this gem. We visited Arafa Hotel for breakfast on the day we arrived and for evening snacks the day we left, I’m just sad we didn’t get to try everything they had to offer for both dinner and lunch (would have certainly been a good choice compared to both the places we tried) For breakfast, we tried an array of options, packed with flavour, and for evening hot hot hoppers and samosas with a banging beef curry that came with it, that I still taste thinking 8 months later. As for the cost: It was around 5k for 8 adults, and we were very full and happy at the end of it.

If you're in Trincomalee and craving authentic local flavors, Arafa is your spot. This easily found restaurant quickly became our favorite, drawing us back three times in just two days—for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious, offering a true taste of the region. The service was also top-notch, making each visit a pleasure. Arafa's popularity means it's often bustling and a bit noisy, and while the food is fantastic, the cleanliness of the dining area could use a facelift. Despite the lively atmosphere and minor imperfections, Arafa’s fantastic food and exceptional service make it an unmissable experience for anyone seeking a genuine Trincomalee meal. It's a true local gem!

Ate here two days in a row because it is that good! they bring over a plate of roti snacks first. then we ordered other items like string hopper and dhal curry. milk tea was so good! friendly staff and very helpful. 2 people for lunch and takeaway snacks was only less than $4usd

We randomly spotted this place on our way to our accommodation and absolutely loved it! We came back 3 more times. We tried many different things. We loved the Parata and Hoppers the most. Especially the sweet hoppers in the evening were an absolute treat! If we wouldn’t travel to a new city now, we would definitely go again. It’s also very cheap and full of locals. Definitely recommend!

Cleanliness needs to be improved. The surrounding noise is too loud 🤯
Insara M — Google review
The prices are really unreasonable & very poor in taste . We ordered the special fried rice which says enough for 3-4 people, but not sure how to share that potion with four people ( I guess it's 1 spoon each) the five spice chicken had no chicken taste at all, full of sweet sauce Terrible.
Tharaka M — Google review
Disappointing Experience – Overpriced and Misleading We had a very disappointing experience at Arafa Hotel. Despite its reputation for being affordable, we found it to be extremely overpriced. Worse, they placed several curry items on our table without our request, then charged us for them. Even for basic items, the prices were shockingly high. It felt like we were being taken advantage of. I do not recommend this place to anyone expecting honest service or clear pricing. Be cautious if you choose to eat here
Muyeen A — Google review
If you want to try the local unusual cuisine, then in this cafe. Nice fast staff, friendly service. Everyone smiles. The prices are cheap. Very tasty kotthu. They will also bring you very sweet tea and water. You can have dinner for $1.5 per person. Kotthu roti is made from various flatbreads called "Godhambara roti" originating from Indian paratha. Rotti bread is crushed and combined with vegetables, meat and eggs (vegetarian or vegan options are available for this dish), aromatic spices and seasonings. The whole mixture is then crushed and mixed in a large flat pan with two large steel chopping knives that produce the characteristic sound and theatrics of making kotthu roti. Of course, the numerous street vendors will also keep up their pace with those cutters that go for mouth-watering and delicious food. Thanks for a delicious dinner!
