Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple is a significant pilgrimage site in Hinduism, attracting thousands of devotees year-round. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, it is believed that Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva at this temple after his victory in Lanka. The temple's grand structure features long corridors and intricately carved pillars, including a towering 38-meter Gopuram.
The temple’s architecture is beautiful, with its long corridors and intricate pillars. The 22 well bath is something special: at each well, the attendants pour water over you from buckets, and each well is said to have a different taste and feel. The process is well-organized, though be prepared to get completely drenched, so dress accordingly. Whether you visit for faith, culture, or history, this temple is a must-see in Rameshwaram.A truly spiritual and unique experience. Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, is a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. As one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, it holds immense spiritual significance and draws thousands of devotees every day.

Visiting Ramanathaswamy Temple was simply unforgettable. From the moment you step through the gates, you’re met with the awe‑inspiring architecture — especially the world‑famous long granite corridor with beautifully carved pillars stretching out before you. The sacred 22 holy wells (theerthams) inside the temple add a profound spiritual dimension — the ritual of bathing there felt like a journey of cleansing and renewal. The location by the sea gives the experience an extra layer of peace and grandeur. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking either spiritual solace, architectural beauty, or just a memorable visit. Absolutely 5 stars for this 🥰
Dr G — Google review
My recent visit to the Ramanathaswamy Temple was an absolute bliss. The sacred 22 Theerthams offered such a deeply spiritual and purifying experience every step felt divine. I was fortunate to view Jal Abhishekam, which added to the sense of peace and connection I felt within the temple. Thanks to my friend, who is a local and also serves as a temple guide, I was able to experience a beautiful and seamless VIP-level darshan. Overall, it was one of the most soul-stirring and serene spiritual experiences I’ve ever had. A must-visit for anyone seeking divine energy and inner calm.

Ramanathan Swamy temple is one of the most oldests and beautifully architectured Jyotirlinga. It is situated at the southernmost part of india, connected with another gorgeous place that one couldnot afford to miss i.e. The Dhanushkodi. Lots of Hotels are available in the 1.5km radius of the Temple. One should directly come to the temple area from Rameshwaram Junction. General darshan is free but sometimes ask patience. If you could afford 100rs for Special darshan your time will be saved and you can see the other places around. If you coming for more than 2 days then you have well enough time to enjoy the bhakti of people in general darshan. Take extra set of clothes while going for bath in the 22 kunds. You can change the clothes in the changing rooms available or in wrost at any of the corner where everyone is changing. Then come to the darshan line in your white shiny dhoti to blend well with the vibe and atmosphere. According to me 02 days are required to enjoy the Rameshwaram temple (darshan+ shopping) and all the 12 nearby places including Dhanushkodi. This place is overall package, a deadly combination of Spirituality, historicalness and senic beauty of Southern India. Har Har Mahadev 🙏.

A deeply spiritual and historic place Rameshwaram Temple is truly special. The architecture is stunning, especially the long corridors with beautifully carved pillars. The energy inside is peaceful and grounding—you can really feel the spiritual significance of the place. The rituals are well-organized, and the temple staff are helpful. It’s not just a religious site but also a cultural landmark with deep history. The 22 holy wells inside the temple are unique, and taking the sacred bath felt like a cleansing experience. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Rameshwaram. Go early in the morning for a quieter experience. It's a jyotirling and one of the Dham
Pranav L — Google review
The temple is truly beautiful and our experience was peaceful and spiritually uplifting. The temple has four gates, and the main entry for darshan is through the East Gate. Don’t miss the Mani Darshan that happens between 5–6 AM, it’s absolutely divine. It’s best to stay close to the temple since there are plenty of accommodation options nearby. Visiting during winter is ideal, as the weather is pleasant and not too humid.

Also we need some good hotels for food and accommodation…
MBL — Google review
It's one of the jyotirlinga and also one of the dham . It's a magical place . Prefer to enter from the north side gate , so that you can do snan (bath) from all 22 kund . There is also changing place . So that you can do darshan after the snan . Bcoz they won't allow for darshan in wet clothes. Take mobile at your own risk . The inside of temple is just magical and it's architecture is just awesome.

Temple is good but the people there fleece devotees for Money all the time. Especially the Jabalpur Baba, He just tied a thread around two of us and demanded 5oo for each thread making it totally 1000 rupees. When we hesitated the owner lady of the Temple started abusing us in Hindi and Tamil. Please be careful when visiting this temple. Temple is good but people are Goons really.

Gandhamadhana Parvatham

Mentioned on

Hindu temple
Gandhamadana Parvatham, the highest point in Rameswaram, offers panoramic views of the island and the sea. It is believed to bear Lord Ram's foot imprint on a chakra and is where Lord Hanuman placed sacred herbs for Lord Ram's wounds. This high-altitude spot is also associated with significant events from the epic Ramayana, such as Hanuman's departure to Lanka and Vibheeshana being crowned by Lord Rama before the journey to Lanka.
This temple has a foot print of lord Ram. It is said that Lord Ram made the strategy at this place with lakshman to reach Ravana's Lanka.
Rajat A — Google review
Low key temple dedicated to Rama and Hanuman. Nothing grand. Not so well maintained. One may take a quick stop but also can be skipped. You can get good coconut water in the vicinity.
Pradeep N — Google review
I liked the place, you can see the entire town from the temple compound . Beautiful scenic views. Good place for some photo ops
Shipra S — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful spot, not crowded, with amazing views from the top. If you’re visiting Rameswaram, definitely include this in your trip. It’s just about 20 minutes from the Rameswaram temple. The best time to visit is in the evening when you can sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Avoid going during midday, as it can get very hot under the sun.
Nived — Google review
Here you will find Charan of God shri Ram.

This temple is believed to have the footprint of Lord Ram, and it is said that he, along with Lakshman, planned the strategy here to reach Ravana’s Lanka. I really liked the place - from the temple compound you can view the entire town, along with beautiful and scenic surroundings.

It’s the Ram temple located at the highest point in Rameshwaram. From here, you can see the entire city and the sea. I’m giving it a lower rating because the temple priests were very rude

You will not regret for visiting here. Thought that I will be there only for 10 minutes, but when I reach there, the view captivated me and can't leave before almost an hour.Calm and peaceful.Less crowded, good antique shops with fair price, also enjoy chilling drinks.

Lakshmana Tirtham is a stunning waterfall nestled in the picturesque hills of the Eastern Ghats in Tamil Nadu, India. This natural marvel not only captivates visitors with its beauty but also holds great religious significance as it is named after Lakshmana, the revered brother of Lord Rama in Hindu mythology.
Lakshmana Theertham is a temple which is made in the memory of lord laxman as the temple is beautifully constructed and nearby there is a pond which makes a temple very attractive. You must visit this temple while visiting Rameshwaram

Satya S — Google review
A serene and sacred spot near Rameshwaram Temple Lakshmana Theertham is one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting places to visit in Rameshwaram. Located just about 1 km from the famous Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, it’s a beautifully maintained sacred pond with a charming mandapam (pavilion) right at its center, surrounded by clear waters. The temple beside the theertham, dedicated to Lord Lakshmana, is built in classic Dravidian architectural style and features intricate carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana. According to legend, Lord Lakshmana himself installed a lingam here and prayed to Lord Shiva to atone for his sins, taking a holy dip in this very pond beforehand. The carvings inside the temple beautifully capture his devotion to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. If you’re visiting during the Thaipusam festival (usually in January or February), don’t miss the spectacular floating car procession that takes place on the waters of this theertham—it’s a rare and mesmerizing sight. The spot is also conveniently close to Sugreevar Theertham, Villondi Theertham, and Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple, making it easy to cover all these sacred places in a short visit. The surroundings are calm and well-kept, perfect for quiet reflection. 📍 Tip: Visit early morning or around sunset when the temple bells echo softly and the reflection of the mandapam shimmers on the water—it’s truly magical. Highly recommend stopping here during your Rameshwaram trip for a moment of peace and devotion.
SaketKr — Google review
One of the local siteseeing attraction at Rameswaram. Approx. 2-3 km away from Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple. The pillars, walls and ceiling is very colourful. The mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiv. The mandir also has a pond like most of the temples in Tamil Nadu. Seek the blessing of Sri Ram, Devi Sita and Lakshman and Lord Shiv.

House of Kalam (APJ Abdul Kalam House / Museum

Mentioned on
5 lists
Museum
Historical landmark
Specialty Museums
House of Kalam, also known as APJ Abdul Kalam House or Museum, is a small museum located in the childhood home of India's former president. Situated in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, this conch-shaped island is a popular tourist destination known for its pilgrimage sites, natural beauty, and Hindu temples. The museum showcases photos and memorabilia related to Dr.
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary house, lost in the narrow lanes of Rameshwaram… but the moment you step closer, something changes. A strange calm takes over — as if time itself slows down. Because this is not just any house… this is the House of Kalam — the humble home of our nation’s Missile Man, Bharat Ratna, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam — India’s best scientist, and one of its most beloved Presidents. This very home once stood as a small hut. These same narrow lanes still whisper the story of a boy who rose from selling newspapers to becoming the guardian of India’s skies. Every brick here holds the echo of dreams that refused to die. Today, this house stands as a museum, a living memory. Though Dr. Kalam is no longer among us, his presence still fills the air — a warm, positive energy that you can feel, not just see. Inside, every inch of this museum speaks of him — his books, pens, medals, certificates, awards, handwritten notes, research papers, and even his projects. Every object silently tells you: “If nothing else remains… there is still Dr. Kalam.” The first floor holds the museum — simple, yet profound — much like the man himself. The second floor hosts an organization, perhaps an NGO, that continues his mission — carrying forward his dream for a better India. The ground floor often remains closed; maybe it’s used for parking, or maybe it’s just resting — like the roots of a tree that once held a giant. Walking through this house is not sightseeing… it’s soul-seeing. You feel the humility of a man who could have built palaces, but chose peace. His simplicity stands as a mirror to today’s so-called leaders — some who, in just five years, build empires, while Dr. Kalam built a legacy. His small house is a loud, silent slap on the faces of the corrupt — proof that greatness is not measured by wealth, but by honesty and humanity. This home is not just a building — it’s a national treasure, a living proof that true patriotism is selflessness, and true religion is humanity. May his soul always smile from the stars he once reached for… and may our nation one day officially declare this sacred place a National Heritage Site — because it already lives forever in the heart of every Indian. 🇮🇳 Rating: Beyond 5 stars — this is not a place to visit, it’s a place to feel.
Rangy W — Google review
The House of Kalam is a must-visit! This humble abode of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is now a museum showcasing his inspiring journey. 🌟 Review: Abdul Kalam House, Rameswaram Visiting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s House was a truly inspiring experience. The place beautifully preserves the memories, values, and simplicity of one of India’s greatest visionaries. The exhibits reflect his journey — from humble beginnings in Rameswaram to becoming the “Missile Man” and the President of India. Every corner of the house tells a story of dedication, discipline, and dreams. It’s not just a museum, but a reminder that greatness can arise from the most modest beginnings. The collection of photographs, personal belongings, and awards adds depth to his remarkable life story. A must-visit destination for anyone who admires Dr. Kalam and believes in the power of hard work, education, and humility. Out of respect for the place, photography and videography inside are restricted.

The house-turned-museum is well-maintained, and the exhibits give a deep sense of pride and inspiration. A short visit here leaves you motivated and full of respect for this legendary scientist and former President of India.

Visiting Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s House in Rameshwaram is a truly inspiring experience that beautifully captures the simplicity and greatness of India’s beloved “Missile Man.” The house, where Dr. Kalam was born and raised, has been carefully preserved and transformed into a small museum that reflects his life journey — from modest beginnings to becoming the President of India. The moment you step inside, you can feel a deep sense of respect and admiration for his values. The exhibits display personal belongings, photographs, awards, and models of missiles that highlight his remarkable contributions to science and the nation. The collection also includes rare glimpses of his early life, education, and the people who shaped his character. What stands out most is the humility and simplicity of the place — it’s a powerful reminder of how greatness can emerge from the humblest surroundings. The house is well-maintained, and the staff ensures that visitors move through the exhibits smoothly while maintaining a peaceful and respectful atmosphere. Overall, the visit to Dr. Kalam’s house is not just a tour but a heartfelt tribute to an extraordinary leader who continues to inspire generations. It’s a must-visit for anyone coming to Rameshwaram — a place that truly makes you reflect on the power of dreams, discipline, and dedication.
Nithin S — Google review
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam House is a gem of simplicity and inspiration. This small, historic home, where India’s “Missile Man” was born, feels like a portal to his humble roots. Now a museum, it’s cared for by his family and filled with treasures—old photos of young Kalam, his schoolbooks, veena, and awards like Bharat Ratna. Each corner tells of a boy who dreamed big, sparking India’s space journey. The seashell shop upstairs, run by relatives, adds a cozy, coastal touch. Free to enter (donations welcome), open mornings to evenings on weekdays, it’s steps from the temple and easy to reach. The space is small, and nearby shops can feel commercial, but the authenticity shines through. It’s a quiet, moving stop that reminds you greatness starts small.

Agni Teertham is a significant pilgrimage site located just 100 meters away from the Rameshwaram temple in Tamil Nadu, India. It holds great religious importance as it is believed that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here to cleanse himself of the sin of killing Demon king Ravana. The site attracts childless couples who come to bathe and pray for blessings from Lord Shiva.
Water got dirty since lot of people started visiting, but it's a great place to watch sun set and sunrise. This place also has boating facility which is a must try attraction. You can find amazing view points!!! Totally loved it!!
Harshitha C — Google review
Agni Theertham is a sacred spot and worth visiting for its spiritual importance. But if you’re thinking of taking a full dip, I wouldn’t suggest it. The water is quite dirty, and even locals advised us not to bathe there. It’s better to take a few drops in your hand and offer it respectfully. Yes, many people still bathe there, but the overall cleanliness is poor. On top of that, the crowd is intense, and there are animals roaming around, which makes the area feel chaotic and unhygienic. A meaningful place to visit, but not the right spot for a safe or clean bath.
Shubham B — Google review
Clean sea, can take bath peacefully. Can get crowded during the season. Search for a hotel with walkable distance if you're traveling with a small group. Either you may go to hotel to change or visit the temple for 22 wells bath from here.

Obviously clean sea water but very poor management of this Holi heritage site… beach should be clean.. which wasn’t…I wasn’t expecting this type of beach… govt should take mandatory steps towards this.. why only Goa, Pondi, Mumbai beaches should hv all the fun and attraction.. India is such a beautiful country and can generate a huge amount of revenue if they manage tourism well. And especially these holy places must be taken care of. I saw bed mattress, diapers, pillows floating🙄🙄in sea water .. God knows what else is there.. but I have only nice pics, which I am posting here..but evening and night walk was the best part here… at night waves, moon, moonlight, cool wind create another level of peace and beauty 🥰

One of the first places to visit while visiting the Swamy Temple. First take a bath at the sea at Agni Teertham. It's clean and maintained. After that take a bath with the well water and then after changing clothes visit the temple. This is the process. You have to go by walk as vehicles are not allowed and it's hardly 200 metres from the road (from temple) Agni Tirtham is one of the Tirthas of Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The beach east of Ramanathaswamy Temple is known by this name. This Tirtham is one of the most visited Tirthams of Rameswaram for a holy bath.
Shubham K — Google review
Must visit when in Rameshwaram. One of the most Sacred beaches. It is believed that one should take a bath in Agniteertham first and then to the 22 wells near the Rameshwar temple so as to let go of the sins.
ATITHI K — Google review
It was a nice sunrise and sunset experience. Not exceptional but pleasant. Bathing here was reasonably facilitated by the steps into the water which is not very deep so you have to nearly kneel to cover yourself from head to toe. Coffee sellers start from sunrise. Walking to East Gate is quick and can also walk (while wet) to North Gate for the next step of 22 wells/teertham bathing from the other end but takes longer. Might be easiest just to walk to East Gate and walk around to the North. Can find mobile/bag/shoes lockers at all gates. Lots of people take their dry clothes in tightly sealed bags so you can change after the wells (Rs 25 per person) Supposed to be mostly dry to do Darshan. Changing area for women is private but open air so plan accordingly. Lots of people stay in hotels nearby so they just change in their rooms. There are places with sign boards for changing nearby if you don't like the changing facilities in the temple. You can change and then go for the Darshan. Normal Darshan line / Rs 100 / Rs 200 just changes speed. Take a look at the length of the line. Weekends and special holidays are busiest. Later in the afternoon or weekdays it's relatively quiet. A small ferry takes you out around the bay. No views of Sri Lanka!

Dhanushkodi Beach is a 9-mile-long sandy island beach located between the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, known for its strong surf. It holds great mythological significance as it is believed to be the birthplace of Ram-Setu or Adams Bridge, constructed by Lord Ram to connect India with Sri Lanka.
Dhanushkodi isn’t just a place — it feels like the edge of the world. Standing where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean is surreal. The waves crash from both sides, the wind carries stories of Ramayana, and there’s an unspoken peace in the air.🥹🥰🕉️ The ruins of the old town remind you of how nature reclaims everything, yet the spirit of the land remains sacred. This is said to be the very spot where Lord Rama built the bridge to Lanka and when you’re there, it genuinely feels divine. The drive from Rameshwaram is stunning, with the sea on both sides of the road. It’s not just a destination, it’s an experience — quiet, powerful, and unforgettable.🥹🙌🏻😭

It was crowded when i visited on a weekend. Not a suitable place for a peaceful getaway. Mobile networks are mostly not available so its always advisable to carry cash in hand if you want to buy something from there

I loved visiting Dhanushkodi Beach — it’s peaceful and stunning, with clear waters and cool winds. Standing at the edge where the land ends felt magical and calming, a perfect spot to just relax
『 』 — Google review
One of the most beautiful and unique beaches I’ve visited. The drive up to Dhanushkodi is stunning, with the sea on both sides of the road. The beach itself is clean, peaceful, and has an almost surreal feel with the ruins nearby. The water is clear, the breeze is refreshing, and it’s a perfect spot to just stand and take it all in. But sadly, people/tourists have made it dirty with plastic etc. littered everywhere.
Paulomi R — Google review
It was an extremely windy day, with finest sand on the road and water being whipped with the surf. Memorable drive of around 10 km. Its a part of biosphere reserve and was horrified to see so many road side food stalls right at the edge of the location. I wish authorities did not allow them in the first place. You can easily spend up to 2 hours. Entry is 20 rupees and it's closed at 6 pm.
Krishna M — Google review
A must visit place for travellers coming to Rameshwaram. This road to this beach is quite scenic and the beach itself looks amazing. You can also jump into the water and have a quick dip here. The beach has ocean on both the sides, one side stays calm while the other side has hustling waves. The entry gate closes at 5 pm so do enter the checkpoint before 5
Gagan B — Google review
Dhanushkodi is calm and beautiful, with sea on both sides and a long straight road. The drive itself is the best part—clean water, strong wind, peaceful vibe. Nothing much to do, just a place to feel the atmosphere and take photos. Go early morning or after 4 pm to avoid the heat. Worth a visit for the experience.
Akhil A — Google review
In the meeting of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, you witness more than just water-you witness life itself. One side serene, the other wild-a silent reminder that opposites can coexist, not in conflict, but in balance. Calm and chaos, peace and power-not rivals, but reflections of the same vast soul. It is very crowded now but still a visit is worth. 🙏🙏

The Sakshi Hanuman Temple in Rameswaram is a small yet highly revered shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to legend, it was here that Hanuman paused while carrying the news of Sita’s whereabouts to Lord Rama. It is believed that Hanuman stood as a witness (sakshi) to the events of the Ramayana, which is how the temple derives its name. Devotees come here with the faith that Hanuman himself records their visit to Rameswaram and conveys it to Lord Rama, serving as a divine testimony of their pilgrimage. Though modest in size, the temple holds deep spiritual significance. The idol of Lord Hanuman is worshipped with great devotion, and the atmosphere inside the shrine is filled with chants and prayers. Many pilgrims make it a point to visit this temple after completing the rituals at Ramanathaswamy Temple, as it is considered an important part of the overall Rameswaram pilgrimage. The temple is surrounded by a serene environment, and its simplicity adds to the charm of the visit. While it may not boast elaborate architecture, the spiritual aura makes it a peaceful stop for reflection and prayer. For devotees, visiting the Sakshi Hanuman Temple is not just about tradition, but also about reaffirming faith in Hanuman’s loyalty, courage, and devotion to Lord Rama. In essence, the Sakshi Hanuman Temple stands as a humble yet powerful reminder of Hanuman’s eternal presence in the Ramayana and his role as a witness to the sacred journey of Rama.

Very humble Temple for Hanuman ji. You have take darshan of Hanuman ji to record that you visited Rāmeswaram. He keeps the record so he is called Sakshi. The temple is run down and needs structural attention.

This is a memorial dedicated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Inside, you’ll find portraits, statues, missile prototypes, and detailed exhibits about his life and work. The monument is well maintained, and entry is free. However, mobile phones are not allowed, and there’s no locker facility—you need to leave them in your vehicle, which can be inconvenient. Hopefully, a secure storage system will be added in the future. The place also has a beautifully maintained garden and clean toilets. Around 10 minutes is enough to explore, it’s definitely worth a visit during your trip to Rameswaram.

Phone is not allowed but locker recently provided to keep, bags recently allowed! But they said it was because we visited during dr's birthday week? Whatever,it is free and almost fully ac! Very beautiful wax figures and saw the area where he was buried, right near the middle! Fully detailed with his life and events! Like his house. The courtyards were clean and well maintained. Plenty of seats and clean bathrooms.

Visiting the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial Museum in Rameswaram was a truly inspiring experience. The entry is free, and the place is well-maintained. Cameras and food are not allowed inside, which helps preserve the peaceful and respectful atmosphere. Inside, you can see many of Dr. Kalam’s personal belongings, awards, and models related to his rocket and missile research. The exhibits beautifully capture his simple lifestyle, scientific achievements, and immense contribution to the nation. It’s a must-visit place for everyone traveling to Rameswaram — especially for students and those who admire Dr. Kalam’s life and vision.

It was such an honour to visit Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's memorial. I went two times and this place never fails to motivate you and you get to know about his most amazing moments in life. His belongings are displayed and this place stands as solid proof that his love towards children and younger generations is immeasurable. My sincere appreciation to the people who are working inside around the clock to keep this place an identity. Restrooms are neat and water facilities are available. Mobile phones and technical devices are not allowed inside.

This place is just next to the temple and I had veg meals here for which I paid 120₹. First, a fall the cashier lady was too rude and was not in the mood to listen to anything, I didn't understand what she was trying to tell me. The veg meal was normal and cold where they served rice, sambar, two types of Sabnis, papad and some sweet, that’s all for which 120₹ was too much. The taste was very basic but it was all cold. Plus, they don't accept Google Pay, it is only cash.

Very worst quality of food. Idly is hard, salty chutney. Tea is like colored pink hot water with high sugar. Don't spoil your stomach by eating here

Rude behavior… They don’t value customers. I bought an ice cream for my son for Rs 40. I gave Rs 200 cash since I had forgotten my phone at my hotel. The guy snatched the ice cream from my son’s hand & asked me to get money from my hotel room. I was shocked to see this man’s behavior with the customer. I told him that I have given 200 Rs & it’s not customer’s job to bring the change . I asked him to give the ice cream cone to my child . Later the cashier gave me the change from his cash counter. No wonder I saw this restaurant vacant most of the times during my 3 days stay here.Customers are God not Dogs.

Ahaan Restaurant at Daiwik Hotels Rameshwaram is a popular dining spot that can accommodate around 60-70 people at a time. The restaurant offers an amazing buffet with a wide variety of vegetarian food, including continental, South Indian, and North Indian dishes along with delectable desserts. The ambiance is impressive with modern lighting and architecture, creating a spacious area with a mini lounge and dessert section.
The staff is so helpful. Food is super amazing. Opt for buffet and enjoy every meal. Ambience is also super amazing.

Lunch buffet was great with a lot of variety. We liked that all choices were vegetarian. The pleasant ambience made it more enjoyable. The only issue we had was there were quite a few house flies buzzing in the food area - hope the management addresses this. Highly recommended.

Good place for family dining, have huge variety of veg options, a place for North Indians - you will surely thank me later for my recommendation here. Must visit if you are in Rameswaram and looking for delicious North Indian food. Service is top class. Food is served good and overall place is amazing 🤩
Vishal C — Google review
Food is amazing and buffet has a wide variety of options. Service is amazing and everyone is hospitable and acccomdating. Atmosphere is quiet and arguably one of the best restaurants in the city. Ps: 2 restaurants have combined into one since there is some dispute, so the al acarte menu is not accurate on their official website, it's way shorter. It seems like a management problem that they are not telling their guests about the merger. Price for buffet is 800 rupees and children is 300.

Our recent dining experience at Ahaan Restaurant in Rameswaram featured a buffet dinner with several noteworthy aspects. The overall quality of the dishes was excellent, with the Rasam and Dahi Wada standing out as particularly impressive. Furthermore, the buffet's pricing was quite reasonable. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and Manchurian. However, we observed that the pastries could be improved in terms of quality.

Classy restaurant with good food and service. There's plenty of parking space. Good interiors, clean rest rooms and well trained staff. We visited twice in two days, once for dinner and once for just tea/coffee. The place is quite relaxing. Special mention about the masala chai and the quantity served. Their complimentary snacks were top notch too.

Located on Rameswaram Beach Road with sea view. Nice ambiance. Quality food. Nice service. Only North Indian vegetarian food available. No iddli, dosa available.
Sai S — Google review
The restaurant had a five star look with great ambiance.. but totally opposite service and good quality. It's has a high class restaurant only on looks.. dosa was served burnt, chutney was cold and 5 people got 2 different kind of sambar, which proves the freshness of food. You ask something they deliver something. Improper bulk billing and I can go on.. please don't get fooled by looks.. Horrible experience..

I did not stay here but went for a dinner with my family. Initially when we called to inquire about dinner they said that the dinner buffet is available but later when we reached there restaurant staff said that the dinner buffet is canceled. It is a matter of poor communication from the management. Food here is moderately priced. We enjoyed north Indian food and some chapatis which is kind of a rare find in Rameshwaram. Service was quick and polite. Good to go if you are craving north indian food in a clean environment.

Vitamin R (Sea view) is a low-key vegetarian eatery located in Hotel Brindavan Residency, offering a variety of paneer and rice dishes along with flavorful curries. The menu features options like jeera rice, phulka, vegetable fried rice, paneer butter masala curry, curd rice, and paneer Kadai. Guests can also enjoy Pongal with sambar.
It was my second time visiting this restaurant. The taste and the atmosphere are as same as best my first visit. I searched in google on my first visit so I visit here for both lunch and dinner was very good and tasty. But my next visit also super with beautiful view of temple and sea with beautiful food .but the main problem is the restroom it is near the washbasin and the door are damaged and not able to use it. And it is near the washbasin also so it is visible to every one. And we are not staying in this restaurant so if we need to use restroom also not possible because of damage. I am not complaining I made a request to change because ladies are unable to use it . Because it is unsafe to use it because of damage and every restaurant have a restroom facility for babies and elderly women. So please check it. And there is no worry about the food and service was so good and satisfied. I love the restaurant view and the food. When I visit the restaurant is little bit crowd but they service was so nice.So I have no issue with my beautiful view and my food. The service was fast.

We had food here for dinner and buffet breakfast we were staying in their group's resort nearby. The food was of good taste and the prices were reasonable compared to other places in the town. Service can be improved a bit, the view from the restaurant during the day is really good. The approach to the restaurant from the main reception of the hotel is a puzzle and can be a brain twister while coming back after having food there. It's not a problem, but worth mentioning :)

This is a restaurant in Hotel Brindavan. Going to restaurants seems like treasure hunting 😝, it’s very much inside. Food is just yummm 😋. Very nice taste Staff service is also very quick. Only sitting area is very small. There could be a little waiting time. Very near to temple as well so one can definitely go and have food.
Shatakshi G — Google review
We visited Vitamin R Restaurant this August during our trip to the Rameshwaram temple. It’s a nice spot with a lovely sea view, tasty food, and good service. The only drawback is that the place feels a bit small for a large group of around 10 people. We tried both their breakfast buffet and lunch on different days, and both experiences were satisfying. The breakfast buffet is purely South Indian tiffins, all freshly prepared and delicious. Lunch offers both South Indian and North Indian dishes, giving plenty of options to satisfy your hunger. I would especially recommend their breakfast buffet—it has a great variety, authentic flavors, and is very budget-friendly. Paired with the sea view, it makes for a perfect way to enjoy a meal while admiring the natural beauty around.
Sonali A — Google review
We tried dinner take away and breakfast buffet. Both are really good. Buffet (Rs150) was bit crowded, but manageable. it was so cheap to get this kind of grand buffet in that area. The food also tasty and not compromised for buffet. In the dinner, I would recommend Curd rice, fried rice and Lassi. We liked very much and the quantity also quite good.

One of my friends recommended this restaurant when I was planning a trip to Rameswaram. The food was amazing, and all the vegetarian options were great. The view from the restaurant was also beautiful. Even though the food was excellent, there are a couple of things that could be improved. The staff weren’t very attentive — we had to call them multiple times to get their attention. Also, the wash area wasn’t very clean.

This is within Goswami Mutt premises, so only people staying here come here not that much crowd, which is nice. We reached about 10pm which they were about to close, when requested they obliged and we had idly, surprised it was closing time, it was warm and even chutney and sambar was superb, this was best food we had during this tour. Next day we had pongal, vada and ghee dosa, which was good.

That's not schezwan fried rice.. come on, who gave that idea???? Service was slow as there was only 1 guy who was preparing what we ordered. All other tables only ordered South Indian items.

Guests can enjoy North Indian and Italian dishes, although the Chinese cuisine may need some improvement. While slightly pricey, the food quality is commendable. The service staff are attentive, despite potential delays due to food preparation. This cafe provides a peaceful dining experience outside of city limits, making it a rare find in Rameswaram.
We had dinner and breakfast, the cafe is part of the JKR resort and SPA. Must say north indian and italian cusine were really good, the chinese cuisine needs some work. Little on the expensive side but the food is good. Service guys were responsive but took more time probably because food was not ready sooner

We ordered filter coffee it was not even close to how filter coffee tastes Samosas were average Grilled sandwich and brownie were good The prices are exorbitant
Sahithya — Google review
Tried this restaurant for Lunch due to reviews from Google. Positive aspects are food quality and taste. Also the place and ambience is quite good, since its part of a big hotel. Negative aspects is either they are totally understaffed or very poor in service totally. Service is so pathetic and non responsive. It took nearly 50 mins to get hot water to drink after multiple reminders. Many food options were not available from the Menu and they take their own sweet time even to take order. Go here only if you have lot of time to kill and wish to spend more money for it.
Sankar S — Google review
Ambience was good and the staff was polite but the food was not worth the money. I went after seeing google reviews but I'd not recommend it to anyone. Food is costly and not upto taste for a 4-star hotel. The service was a little slow as well.
Ishita P — Google review
Experience was okayish. Service staff are well behaved, but food was pretty average. Certainly not as per the google reviews that are thrown on this. It is inside JKR resorts and there is not much display outside to indicate there is a restaurant inside. Parking was good! Walk to restaurant was good as well, well maintained swimming pool nearby. But AC inside the restaurant was too chilly, and again food was pretty average and expensive.

One of the better places to eat at in Rameshwaram town. The vegetarian lunch buffet spread was good, some dishes were surprisingly tasty. The staff was courteous but service can be a bit slow when the place gets full. The toilets are clean.

Service is very poor, food is also not so great. I understand it was festival time with rush at the hotel, but the a la carte ordered by us was not at all anywhere close to the quality expected for the price being paid. Mixed veg had too much oil, rotis were under cooked and they just couldn't manage the place at all. There is absolutely no co-ordination between the staff and the whole place was complete chaos
Rajendar G — Google review
Heavily understaffed for both the meals I went in for. The service really needs to pick up a pace. The management really needs to work with providing better service. The food is very average too.

For a budget‑wise, flavor‑packed experience in Rameshwaram, Murugan Mess comes highly recommended.

It's a decent place to have South style Tamilnadu meals served on banana leaf, serving staff especially those sisters who serve food are too good, they make you feel like home, serves everything nicely. Had lunch here, every item was good. Sitting space is small but good for family. Prices are reasonable, also added the price Chart. Surprised to see Director Rajamouli and his family had food here when they visited Rameshwaram. Overall good mess to have Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Satish V — Google review
nothing of the hype. Just a normal restaurant and food is good. Nothing special. They serve food in tin foil sheets. Banana leaves would have been better. Service is good
Ajith — Google review
Nice, tasty pocket friendly food with quick service. This place was very busy in the morning but they served the food in no time. Vada was crunchy and pongal was heavenly but coffee needs improvement.
Kaushik M — Google review

Nestled in the vibrant Olaikuda area of Rameswaram, Hotel Chola Non Vegetarian Restaurant is a hidden gem for food lovers seeking authentic Indian cuisine. Located conveniently near the former residence of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, this eatery offers a delightful array of non-vegetarian dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. The restaurant may have a simple ambiance, but it compensates with its fast and attentive service, ensuring guests feel well taken care of.
Tasty and fresh non-veg food in Rameshwaram. Service is also good. Don't expect ambience or hygiene.
S M — Google review
In the middle of a crowded city, Chola restaurant offers some decent Indian foods. However, I got to try only chicken biryani, the picture of which I've shared herein. What I've concluded, from my eating experience at different spots in South India is very interesting. There's no meal without HOT spices. The sanitation and cleanliness was in exclamation ❗ status. I could hardly stand in handwashing basin. However, this would be the best spot around 😂
R D — Google review
Lovely place to get fish fry and other non-vegetarian meals. The chicken dishes were superb as well. Do not let the appearance scare you away. Seafood is based on what is available for the day, and the fish was sweet and fresh and done very nicely.
HH L — Google review
I had Kerala parata chicken curry and a big fish fry. Loved it. Parata wasn't much soft still tasty. Like other reviews I didn't find the attitude of the staffs rude or arrogant. Fast service also. Hand wash area can be little bit modified.
Keerthana C — Google review
Good place to have non veg in Rameswaram. Thali was okay is taste. Fish fry was very tasty.

Hotel Vasantha Bhavan

Mentioned on

Vegetarian restaurant
Hotel Vasantha Bhavan, located at 20/47 A Sangumal C/O Hotel Jiwan Residency, Olaikuda Village Road in Rameswaram, is known for its variety of chutneys and dosas. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options with food available at any time. While the service and cleanliness could be improved according to some visitors, others found it to be a better dining option compared to other restaurants in the area.
Among the better options we tried. Far from what I would like to frequent, but a recommended option if you are in this temple town and looking for a dining option near east entrance. Best dishes (worthy of mentioning): sambar and chutney was decent, which made the overall meal a lot more palatable. The pongal and vada were great. Dishes you can skip - kuruma ( had no salt), coffee (you expect a filter coffee at south Indian restaurants, this wasn’t), onion uthappam.
Ajit I — Google review
We ordered paneer rice , mushroom rice , dal fry , kadai paneer, Paratha and tea . Tea was not good and each paratha cost ₹30 yet are too small . Paneer rice and mushroom rice were good . And dal fry was good as well . I didn't liked the kadai paneer. The atmosphere isn't good . There is wheelchair accessible entrance here . The place is hygienic but is not cozy . It is also a bit expensive
Akanshya D — Google review
I first thing you notice after seeing the reviews is the lack of hygiene. The first thing you notice when you are actually at the place is the lack of other options. We decided to give it a try as there were not other hotels nearby open. We ordered Veg rice, Gobi curry, and paneer curry along with tea. The plate was not properly cleaned. The food was served in a banana leaf, in the plate, which was okay. Taste wise it was okay. We were hungry so ate everything. They accept only Cash.
Subin B — Google review
Rude and arrogant staff at the payment counter. Avoid this restaurant. Better places are available near the temple.
Nikhil K — Google review
Food is not so good, but cheap also. Open from 7 AM to 9.30 PM. Right infront of the east gate of Rameshwaram temple. Have bathroom facility also compared to other restaurants nearby. Also there is a large verandah for sitting.
Ajith — Google review
There is no option to give less than one star. Highly unhygienic, pathetic taste, unruly staff, unruly owner also. Staff cleans the tables with left over water from the glasses left by earlier customer. Very very poor service, taste.
S R — Google review
Very close to temple east tower. Food is average. Staff is good. Easily noticable from the road. All vegetarian food and North Indian food is available. Cash only payment system. There is also a AC room for family. Clean place. Opening time 6AM in the morning and closing time is 9:30PM.
Rahul M — Google review

Jaffna International Airport

International airport
Airport
Jaffna Airport, also known as Palaly Airport, is a regional airport located near Jaffna in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It primarily serves as a gateway connecting the northern region with other parts of the country, including Colombo and India (Chennai). Originally built during World War II, the airport has been modernized to support commercial flights, playing a vital role in boosting tourism and economic development in the area.
Pratheepan G — Google review
This airport, primarily under the control of the Sri Lanka Air Force, operates as a private facility. It is occasionally used by Indian aircraft, often for official or coordinated purposes. While it is not a commercial airport, civilian visitors are allowed entry following a thorough security check by Air Force personnel. The airport is well-maintained and strategically located, making it a strong candidate for future expansion. With the proper investment and planning, this facility could potentially be developed into a major international airport, further boosting Sri Lanka’s aviation capacity and regional connectivity.
Rifad R — Google review
We traveled as a group of 14 from Trichy to Jaffna and had such a unique and enjoyable experience. The flight itself was fun – only about 20 people were on board, which made it feel like a private trip! At the airport, the ground staff were very supportive and attentive. They took special care of my dad, who has a vision problem, ensuring he was comfortable and well-assisted throughout. The airport process was smooth – baggage screening and exit were quick, with no delays. The place is neat, clean, and well-maintained, with useful facilities like an ATM and a refreshment shop inside. Though our bus didn’t arrive on time and we ended up waiting for nearly 7 hours, the experience turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. Since only two flights operate here, the airport officially closed and most officers left for the day, but the environment outside felt like a peaceful park. It was calm, safe, and almost like a picnic atmosphere for our group. The real highlight was the kindness of the staff and military officers. Even after their duty hours, cleaners and staff members kept checking on us, offering to arrange a taxi or bus if needed. Later in the evening, the military officers generously served us tea, which made us feel truly cared for. Their hospitality and friendliness left a lasting impression on us. Despite being stranded, we never felt unsafe or uncomfortable — instead, we felt secure, supported, and welcomed. By 8 PM, our bus finally arrived, but leaving that warm environment felt like leaving behind a special memory. We’ll always remember the incredible people, the beautiful surroundings, and the genuine kindness we experienced at Jaffna Airport. Highly recommend this airport for its cleanliness, efficiency, and above all, the remarkable hospitality of the people working there.

Another International Airport after the Katunayaka International Airport in Sri Lanka. Jaffna International Airport is also known as Palali Airport. It is Sri Lanka's third International Airport. Staff were very friendly & helpful...

Indigo is the only flight out is to Chennai. If you are for medical reason use otherwise, it's the worst staff for indigo airlines in my entire life. I am being 100 k flyer, never seen discourteous Indigo staff ( Arnold) in my entire life. Beware not to leave your credit card out of your sight. They charged my two of my Amex ( platinum) and couldn't get it through and then a visa . Finally they realized it was their system error. After the machine charged and printed out, refused to give receipt but only allowed me to take a picture of the receipt. Then they wanted to enter my credit card number ( after charged and approved) manually. This is a suspicious activity and a prelude for credit card scam by Indigo staffs. Indigo is a Rip-off airline. I will give minus rating. Unfortunately they are the only one operating between Jaffna and Chennai. They selectively targeted me being American passport while an Indian passport holder was allowed to take two hand luggage. ( The picture taken while waiting for luggage claim at Chennai of the two hand luggage of other person is attached ). Jaffna airport charges a 100 rupee for any vehicle enter to drop off..This is absolutely a fraud and there are too many people working in the airport for one half empty flight. Many are government waste spending. Between the airport building and plane is less than 40 meters and it's utter stupidity that they use bus. Another government waste of people and petrol / diesel use. DO NOT USE THIS FLIGHT UNLESS MEDICAL REASON

Key Facts About Jaffna Airport: 📍 Location: Palaly, about 16 km northwest of Jaffna city. Strategically located to serve the Tamil-majority Northern Province. ✈️ History: Originally established during World War II as a Royal Air Force base. Later used by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), especially during the civil war. Upgraded and reopened for civilian international flights in October 2019. 🛫 Operations: Handled mostly domestic flights between Jaffna and Colombo (Ratmalana Airport). Supports post-war economic recovery and tourism in the North. Aims to promote cultural and family ties between the Tamil diaspora and the Northern Province.

This is a small airport and it is quite hassle free. The flights are not available on every day basis but only on alternative days. Since the flight is super small the tickets gets filled up much earlier. There is only one flight from Chennai to Jaffna and Jaffna to Chennai as of now.

I went to drop some passengers so didnt go in. But as you drive the area it has smooth drive in very less traffic and ample space to move tbe vehicles . Seems to be a smooth operation
