Shakti Peeth Shri Chamunda Devi Temple is a Hindu temple complex located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Situated atop a hill and overlooking the Ban Ganga river, it is dedicated to Goddess Chamunda Devi, considered the Mother Goddess by locals and devotees from all over India. According to legend, she emerged from an eyebrow of Goddess Durga to defeat demon kings Shumbha and Nishumbha.
A major Shaktipeeth, Shri Chamunda Devi Temple is an important pilgrimage destination, situated around 45 minutes drive from Dharamshala. We reached here by hiring a Suzuki Access scooty from Dharamshala and the road 🛣️ was a pleasure to ride on. This temple is huge when it comes to the area, with plenty of shops and open spaces to park your bike. There is a shoe deposit counter, which is really praiseworthy, because in most temples they don't have this system. During my visit, the main temple was undergoing renovation, but the Shiva temple was open. What fascinated me the most about this shaktipeeth was its small pond (with boating facility) and a river flowing next to it at rapid speed. This temple is really worth visiting and I enjoyed the overall experience.🙏🏻😇

Very peaceful and serene temple. Locals believe it to be one of Shakti Peeths, though the scriptures don't mention it, but has been given special status apparently. Conjoined with a beautiful Shiva temple downstairs, made under a unique rock cut.

Visiting **Maa Chamunda Devi Temple**, one of the most revered **Shakti Peethas** in India, was an extraordinary spiritual journey. Nestled in the scenic **Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh**, this ancient temple is dedicated to **Goddess Chamunda**, a fierce form of **Maa Durga**. The moment I stepped into the temple complex, I felt an overwhelming sense of divine energy and devotion. According to Hindu History, this is where the **goddess’s teeth (dant)** fell, making it one of the **51 Shakti Peethas**. The temple is named after **Chandi and Munda**, the demons slain by Maa Durga, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The powerful aura of the goddess is palpable, and devotees believe that sincere prayers here bring protection, strength, and fulfillment of wishes. The temple’s architecture is a blend of ancient and modern styles, with intricate carvings and a striking idol of **Maa Chamunda adorned with garlands and ornaments**. The rhythmic chants of **"Jai Maa Chamunda"**, the sound of temple bells, and the fragrance of incense create a deeply meditative atmosphere. The priests perform rituals with great devotion, enhancing the spiritual experience. Perched on a hilltop near **Palampur and Dharamshala**, the temple offers **panoramic views of the Dhauladhar ranges and the Baner River**. The peaceful surroundings, fresh mountain air, and the sound of flowing water add to the divine experience. The well-maintained premises and cleanliness make the visit even more pleasant. The temple is easily accessible by road from **Kangra, Dharamshala, and Palampur**. Ample parking and well-connected transport options are available. The temple trust provides clean facilities, and nearby shops offer **prasad, souvenirs, and local Himachali snacks**. My visit to **Maa Chamunda Devi Mandir** was not just a pilgrimage but a soul-stirring experience. The goddess’s divine presence, the temple’s sacred energy, and the stunning Himalayan backdrop left me in awe. Whether you seek blessings, adventure, or inner peace, this temple is a **must-visit**. A Truly Divine & Unforgettable Experience!** 🚩🙏

10 August 2025 It is a good temple. You can hire cab approx 1k rupees from kangra bus stand. It is a huge, clean and beautiful temple. There is a kund in between where there is boating for amusement. Boating price 50 per person. Photographs to Chamunda Devi is prohibited. There is one more temple "Nandikeswar". Although, temple is as usual as the other temples but inside there is below a huge Rock. There are many shops for prashad but for eating the good dhaba near main road gate.

Brajeshwari Devi Temple

4.7
(192)
Hindu temple
Nestled in the picturesque town of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, the Brajeshwari Devi Temple stands as a revered spiritual haven dedicated to Goddess Brajeshwari. This historic temple, once adorned with treasures like diamonds and pearls, faced a tragic fate when it was looted by Mohammed Gazni in 1009. The temple's striking architecture features a grand entrance complete with a Nagarkhana or drum house, reminiscent of the Bassein fort entrance.
The Brajeshwari Devi Temple, also known as the Kangra Devi Mandir, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Vajreshwari, a form of Goddess Durga. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is located in the town of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, India. The temple complex has several smaller temples dedicated to other Hindu deities, including a temple of Bhairava. It is particularly famous for its Navratri festival, which is celebrated twice a year. The temple was looted several times by Muslim invaders, including Mahmud of Ghazni, who looted it at least five times. In 1905, the temple was destroyed by a powerful earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt by the government in a year. The temple is surrounded by a stone wall and has a Nagarkhana or drum house at the entrance. Inside the main area, Goddess Vajreshwari is present in the form of a Pindi. There is also a small temple of Bhairava and an idol of Dhayanu Bhagat, who offered his head to the Goddess at the time of Akbar. The present structure has three tombs, which is unique in itself. The Brajeshwari Devi Temple is a revered pilgrimage site and attracts devotees from all over India. It is a beautiful temple with a rich history and is definitely worth visiting if you are in the Kangra region.

Jai Mata di 🙏..... Ancient Origins & Mythology: The temple is believed to be a Shakti Peetha, where Goddess Sati's left breast fell after her body was cut into 51 parts by Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra. Pandava Construction: Legend has it that the Pandavas built the temple after Goddess Durga appeared to them in a dream, revealing her presence in Nagarkot (modern-day Kangra).

Visited this place twice , it’s an ancient temple situated in the nature and greenery. Roads are not good and very congested in rainy season. Please check weather condition before visiting. In the radius of 5-6 kms many other good places are their to visit. Ikshadham Pratikatmak Sai Temple & Ganeshpuri- Samadhi sthal of Shri Nityanand is also nearby. Kund of hot and warm water itself creates curiosity among to visitors. If weather condition is good you can have full day memorable picnic with friends and family.

Encroachment by the shopkeepers along the road leading to temple has made the visit miserable. Basic amenities like ladies toilet are filthy and not up to the mark. This revered Hindu shrine is dedicated to Goddess Vajreshwari and is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, believed to be where a part of Goddess Sati fell according to ancient legends.
Another Shaktipeeth near Dharamshala to visit when traveling there. One of the most beautiful and divine places to experience spirituality. Bit of a walk, climb required amidst a lane of shops, street to reach the temple but the experience after reaching is wholesome. Not much crowd when we went in but lots of monkeys so keep your belongings in check.

Superb restaurant for family and friends. Nice ambiance with rooftop view is like no-one has in surroundings. Best part is hygiene and food which is like none of the restaurants have. 5 star restaurants and hotels are like cheeni kum as compared to Kababshalas food. Really excellent is and understatement. Keep up the good work guys. Your hospitality rocks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

One of the BEST RESTAURANT in Kangra district when it comes to food taste and quantity. Mutton seekh was amazing and so was chicken burrah. In main course mushroom do pyaza, Kababshala chicken butter tikka masala and mutton biryani were winners. Great taste

Place is very creatively done looking at its interiors. Antique telephone and Murphy at least 100 years old is nice place for selfie. Best part is food which is truly mughlai and overall fresh. Pickles are great and homemade which is hard to find in restaurants. Only Amul cream and amul butter are used for preperation which you can see through show kitchen. This place will rule entire Kangra and Dharmshala in coming time for sure if the same food quality is maintained. Booked it again for a Birthday event next month. Vishal has insured us the same taste and quality for our event which was served today. Mutton Seekh kabab and chicken burr ah are ultimate.

Dont understand why people hide best things from public. Came across this food gem named Kababshala while driving back from Gagal airport to Palampur at national highway at Mataur. Was zapped at the rooftop ambience and restaurant deccor. Sooooooooo beautifully made with eye for detail at each aspect. Now came the best part that was food. Swearing to God these guys have brought Delhi food taste live in Kangra now. Murgh mussallam was which i can bet not eve Hyatt or Radisson can serve. They have unique gravies which i only tasted when i was in Delhi or Lucknow. You need to try to believe. Super lunch with parents. Big thanks to the owner Vishal who dosent look local at all when he explains the concept of restaurant so indepth. He was super curtious. Will surely visit again and again with my friends now.

Kababshala NH 154 gives a notion of non veg starters at first glance but when you go through the menu they have ample variety for vegetarians also. Was really impressed with hygiene and cleanliness maintained in dinning area as well as washrooms. Now coming to food part - it was super delicious. None of the restaurants in entire Kangra district has this so called mughlai cuisine and is superbly lip smacking. Printed price on menu is bit eye raising at first glance but once you have bite of their food you just forget everything. Very very strongly recommended. Better than 5 star restaurants for sure.

I ordered Dosa, Virgin Mojito, and Papdi Chaat — and everything exceeded my expectations. The Dosa was crisp and perfectly spiced, the Virgin Mojito was refreshing and well-balanced, and the Papdi Chaat had just the right mix of crunch, sweetness, and tang. The presentation was neat, and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, a delightful experience — definitely worth a visit!

Order a pizza today from the VEG 3 category which is supposed to be their best, have not eaten such a junk before. The cheese used was almost like plastic and stale. Toppings were hard to find. It's just a stale piece of bread covered with a lot of stale low quality cheese and minimal toppings. Not recommended at all.

A decent option in Nagrota. The sitting area is comfortable and air conditioned, but needs a bit of cleanup. Restrooms were good as well. Ambiance is also decent. The main thing was the food, which I found it to be very average. I had a double tikki non-veg burger, and cheese and bbq chicken pizza. Both of them were very average. I recommend them to modify their burger.

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscape of Kangra, India, the Kangra Fort stands as a testament to ancient history and architectural marvel. The fort, sprawling over 4 km on a hilltop at the confluence of River Banganga and Patal Ganga, boasts high walls and intricately carved stone entrances. Visitors can explore its rich heritage through audio tours and a museum displaying artifacts, sculptures, and photographs.
I visited Kangra Fort during my trip to Himachal Pradesh, and it was a wonderful experience. This fort is one of the oldest in India and is full of history and stories. The moment I entered, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The fort is built on a hill, and the views from the top are amazing. You can see rivers flowing below and the mountains all around — it’s truly a peaceful and beautiful sight. The walk up to the fort is a little long, with stone steps and ancient gates, but it’s worth it. Along the way, there are small temples and ruins that make you think about how people lived here hundreds of years ago. The information boards are helpful in learning about the fort’s history. As a visitor, I felt calm and curious. The fresh mountain air and silence made the experience even better. It’s not very crowded, which makes it a great place to explore slowly. If you love nature, history, and peaceful places, Kangra Fort is a must-visit. Take your time, enjoy the views, and feel the connection to India’s rich past.

Beautiful & historic Fort in Kangra. The architecture is beautiful & worth exploring. There’s lot of stairs to climb to get to the top where you get the view of beautiful river flowing & mountains covered with clouds. You can sit, enjoy the view or go for a small picnic. A small ticket of 20rs is needed for entry. Many people visit there with their families so might be slightly crowded. Restroom available inside is not very clean. Beautiful flowers & greenery inside.

Visiting Kangra Fort was an incredible experience! 🌄 The fort is majestic and steeped in history, perched on a hill with breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley. Walking through its ancient stone walls and gates, you really feel the stories of centuries gone by. The architecture is stunning, with intricate carvings and impressive fortifications that show the skill of the craftsmen of that era. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, making it perfect for photography or just soaking in nature. The site is well-maintained, though wearing comfortable shoes is a must because there’s a lot of walking and some steep climbs. Local guides are available and really add value by sharing fascinating historical anecdotes. Overall, Kangra Fort is a must-visit for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone who appreciates breathtaking views combined with cultural heritage. Definitely a day trip you’ll remember! 🏰🌿

Beautiful fort. Tis incredible to see such feats of architecture so high up in the mountains of Himalayas. It is easy to get to, and the hike is not bad at all. It was not crowded when we visited. There's also a museum across from the Fort that you can visit to know about its history.
Sreekuttan S — Google review
About an hour walk both ways with stops along the way for scenic pictures. All uphill walking to the top, so wear walking shoes. Amazing views and stone architecture. Carvings throughout the fort on walls preserved depicts gods and deities. Must see on your trip to Dharmashala. Bring your ID or passport for the tickets.
Tiger K — Google review
Really awesome views, however, a pathetic maintenance of the fort. There are no informative references or history along the fort. Only their museum has some history. Would have been really nice if a treasure as such would have been maintained in a better fashion with info nuggets on the carvings, ruins, and steps leading to the top most areas. In the entire area there is no place to eat. The place is very warm and humid during summers, as thus a refreshment cafe would have been great.
Akanksha K — Google review
Kangra Fort - Amazing fort & museum, so underrated. Centuries of history, steeped in stone. Some claim it be over 2000 years old. Needs good guides and stone tablets to read. Good there were only a few people. It is a gem tucked just off the highway to Kangra & Dharamshala.

Such a nice place to visit and to know the history of Kangra better. You must have seen fort before but he speciality of this fort is that it is solely built on a mountain so it will give you a trekking with a fort vibe. Must visit if you are near by.

Explore the rich cultural heritage of the Katoch dynasty at Raja Sansar Chandra Katoch Museum & Cafe, located in Kangra. The museum offers insights into the history and legacy of the Katoch rulers, including their mention in ancient texts like Mahabharata.
After reading the tablets, I became curious to know more and more about the dynasty of Kangra and the Trigarta kingdom. In true sense, coming here and getting information about the Katoch dynasty was a wonderful experience. When you read about the history of Himachal, the most important description comes from the Trigarta princely state. This museum has many interesting facts and surprising things related to this princely state. Many important knowledge giving information about Trigarta-British relations, Trigarta-Mughal relations is available here. Five stars for the tirthsthaan, the peaceful environment and the tranquil atmosphere. But one star for management and poor yatri services - see the area where rooms are given, I stayed here recently so posting photos around the room Good rooms are NOT given to yatris, reserved for God knows who (only trustees friends ??) Hopefully the trustees take note and would wish to see the dharmashala facility restored as respectable place for yatris as a jain dharmashala would and should be

Masroor Rock Cut Temple, also known as Himalayan Pyramid, is a complex of monolithic rock-cut temples located in Masroor, Kangra Valley. The temple complex features ornate architectural carvings and is built in the shikhara style of classical Indian architecture. Dating back to the 8th to 10th centuries, these sandstone sikharas are hewn from living rock and are rare for North India.
It was an hour long drive from our air bnb in Rakkar, dharamshala. There are two routes, one going via tiara and gaggal road which is steeper and narrower than the state highway 23 road which has gentle slopes and obviously wider than the other but the distance is 9 kms more than the other. So the choice is yours. The place has relics of single stone carved temple. It's beautiful and so calm and serene. Whoever is interested in some history as well as some serene place, should absolutely visit and spend some time, just sitting and enjoying the beauty of nature around you.
Priyanka P — Google review
On return from Dharamshala to Chandigarh we planned to visit Masroor Rock cut temple. It is a real wonder as temples are built on one Rock just as in Ellora. Though temples were affected by 1905 earthquake but one can see the temple. Restoration work is going on and idols have been kept for worship. However no one is allowed to offer money.
Ranjay V — Google review
A monolithic rock cut temple of around eighth century. The place is not so popular among tourists. The architecture is wonderful and amazing. Although it was damaged by the 1905 earthquake, still what remains is awesome. A must visit for history lovers.
BIDHAN B — Google review
Masroor Rock Cut Temples – A Hidden Gem of Ancient Architecture Visited on: 6th May 2025 On 6th May 2025, we explored one of Himachal Pradesh’s lesser-known but truly awe-inspiring historical sites —the Masroor Rock Cut Temples. Located about 40 km from Dharamshala, this archaeological wonder is nestled in the quiet village of Masroor, offering a rare and mesmerizing blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty. These temples are believed to date back to the 8th century and are carved entirely out of a single rock, much like the famous Kailasa Temple in Ellora. The complex consists of 15 monolithic rock-cut shrines, primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, though some also depict Vishnu and other deities from the Hindu pantheon. What’s most striking is the intricate detailing in the stone carvings—though many have weathered over the centuries, the remaining figures, pillars, and facades still hint at the grandeur of the original structure. The temples face the Dhauladhar mountain range, and there's a serene water tank in front that reflects the entire complex beautifully—especially during clear daylight. The site is relatively quiet and uncrowded, allowing you to explore at your own pace, absorb the silence, and marvel at the craftsmanship. There’s a calm, sacred energy in the air, and it's easy to feel transported to a different era. Highlights of Our Visit: - The panoramic view of the snow-capped Dhauladhars from the temple platform was breathtaking. - The cool stone interiors offered a welcome break from the summer heat. - The peaceful ambiance made it ideal for quiet reflection and photography. Travel Tips: - You'll need to purchase tickets online from the website of the Archeological Society of India - Best visited in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. - Carry water and snacks, as there are limited facilities around the site. - Wear sturdy shoes—some parts involve uneven steps and rocky paths. - Respect the sanctity of the temple area and avoid climbing over fragile carvings. Final Thoughts: The Masroor Rock Cut Temples are a true hidden treasure of Himachal Pradesh. Though not as widely publicized as other heritage sites in India, they deserve much more recognition for their architectural and historical significance. If you're in the Dharamshala or Kangra region, make the time to visit—you’ll walk away with a sense of wonder and deep appreciation for ancient Indian artistry.

The Masroor Temple, also known as the Rock-Cut Temple, is an 8th-century Hindu temple complex located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It's a remarkable example of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture, carved out of a single sandstone rock. According to local mythology, the Pandavas built the temple during their exile. The temple complex consists of 15 rock-cut temples arranged around a rectangular water pond, reflecting the intricate carvings in its still waters. The temple showcases North Indian Nagara architecture style, with a central shikhara tower and a sacred pool. The temple is dedicated to deities to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, and Saura of Hinduism, with sculptures and reliefs depicting various gods and goddesses. The temple complex was first reported by Henry Shuttleworth in 1913 and is believed to have been built between the 7th -9th centuries AD.The temple is located in the Kangra Valley, 43 km from Dharamshala. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.the Entry fees I think ₹25 And the Best Time to Visit in this month ie October to February forpleasant weather and festivals.
