Shree Hanuman Temple, Jakhu, Shimla

Hindu temple
Place of worship
At the highest point in Shimla lies Jakhoo Temple, a serene and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The trek to the summit offers mesmerizing views of the cityscape and surrounding valleys. Visitors are greeted with positive vibes that fill the heart with peace and serenity upon entering the temple premises. The panoramic vistas from the top are simply breathtaking, stretching out for miles. For those seeking convenience, there's an option to reach the temple by foot, taxi or ropeway.
Jakhu Temple is one of the most historically significant and ancient temples in Shimla, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Situated at the highest point in the city, the temple offers panoramic views and a peaceful spiritual atmosphere. The massive statue of Lord Hanuman, which towers over the skyline, is the main attraction and can be seen from various parts of Shimla. You can reach the temple via private taxi, shared taxi, ropeway, or by trekking. However, the trek is quite steep and physically demanding—best suited for experienced trekkers. A word of caution: The area is full of monkeys who are known to snatch anything they can get—sunglasses, food, bags—so be extremely careful and avoid carrying anything in your hands. This is a place you simply should not miss when visiting Shimla—for both its spiritual significance and the breathtaking views.
Vaidehi S — Google review
Jakhu Temple, perched atop Shimla's highest hill, is a must-visit. Legend says Lord Hanuman rested here while searching for the Sanjeevani Booti. The temple houses a towering 108-foot statue of Hanuman, visible from afar and one of the world's tallest at this altitude. Monkeys roam freely, adding a playful element (be cautious!). Enjoy panoramic Himalayan views and a spiritual ambiance. Reachable by a scenic walk, taxi, or ropeway for breathtaking aerial vistas. A blend of mythology, faith, and natural beauty awaits.
Prasun S — Google review
A very quiet and divine place to visit. There are taxi and ropeway available (the taxis are much more affordable- from the main market around 100 per person if you are in a group, ropeway is quite expensive tbh). But if you can, I highly recommend going on foot, it's quite a fun challenge. Please don't have specs or food items in view as there are monkeys all around the temple and the route to the temple. There are snacks available near the temple, but I found them to be quite expensive for the quality, so taking light snacks could be an option.

Peaceful and Divine Place — Jakhu Temple, Shimla Jakhu Temple is one of the most peaceful and divine places I’ve ever visited. The huge Hanuman Ji statue looks majestic and can be seen from almost every corner of Shimla. The vibe here is calm, spiritual, and refreshing — perfect for anyone seeking peace. The temple is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by beautiful pine trees. You can reach easily by ropeway or by a short trek. A must-visit spot when you’re in Shimla!
Sudhanshu R — Google review
Jakhu Temple in Shimla is a peaceful and spiritual place with a huge Hanuman statue and beautiful hill views. The cable car ride and surroundings make the visit enjoyable. Only drawback is the monkeys around, otherwise a very nice experience.
Leena — Google review
The most famous and prominent Hanuman Temple in Shimla is the Jakhu Temple (also spelled Jakhoo Temple). It is a major landmark and a must-visit for tourists and devotees. Here is key information for other people: Jakhu Temple, Shimla The Jakhu Temple visit was, without a doubt, the absolute highlight of my Shimla trip. This place is so much more than just a temple; it’s an experience that combines thrilling transport, breathtaking views, deep spirituality, and a touch of wild adventure. Getting There: Take the Ropeway! I highly recommend taking the Jakhu Ropeway. The steep hike (about 45 minutes) is there for the adventurous, but for comfort and the sheer aerial view, the cable car wins. For a few hundred rupees, you get a short, smooth, and scenic ride that lifts you right over the pine trees. It's truly a cinematic ascent, where Shimla city slowly unfolds below you like a miniature town. It saves time and energy, which you'll need for soaking up the atmosphere at the top. The Colossal Hanuman Statue The moment you step off the ropeway, you are greeted by the magnificent, towering presence of the 108-foot Lord Hanuman statue. Its vibrant orange color stands out so beautifully against the blue sky and green hills. It's a marvel of engineering and a powerful symbol of faith. You can see this statue from The Ridge and The Mall Road, but standing right at its base, looking up, is awe-inspiring. It truly feels like the silent guardian of Shimla. The Temple and the View The ancient temple itself is nestled amongst thick deodar forests and has a wonderfully tranquil, spiritual atmosphere. The air is filled with the calming scent of incense and the sound of bells. It is believed that Lord Hanuman's footprint is preserved here, which adds a deep layer of mythology to the visit. From the temple complex, the panoramic views are unbeatable. You get a 360-degree vista of the surrounding snow-capped Himalayan ranges, the winding valleys, and Shimla's charming, colonial-style rooftops. We caught it around sunset, and the golden hour lighting up the mountains was simply unforgettable
Mr. P — Google review
The climb up can be a bit challenging, especially if you’re walking from the Ridge, but it’s worth it. For those who prefer comfort, taxis and a ropeway are available. Along the way, you’ll notice troops of monkeys (after all, it is Hanuman’s temple), so it’s best to be cautious and avoid carrying food or loose items in your hands. What I really loved was the serenity once you reach the top. Despite being a popular attraction, the temple retains a peaceful aura. The views of Shimla and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking, especially during early morning or sunset hours. Inside the temple, the spiritual atmosphere feels calming, making it a rewarding stop for both devotees and tourists. Overall, Jakhu Temple is a blend of spirituality, culture, and natural beauty. Whether you go for faith, photography, or simply to enjoy the views, it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss in Shimla.

Jakhu Temple is an ancient temple in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India , which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is situated on the highest point in the Shimla city, on the top of the Jakhu hill. We can reach the temple via private taxi, shared taxi, ropeway, or by trekking. However, the trek is quite steep and stamina sapping. Additionally, while walking up to the temple and nearby, the place is full of monkeys who are known to snatch anything they can get—sunglasses, food, bags. Around a decade back, a massive , tall statue of Lord Hanuman, which towers over the skyline, has been installed near the temple . This has now become a star attraction of the place and is also visible from various parts of Shimla city. This giant 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman was unveiled at Jakhu Hanuman temple on 4 November 2010. The 108-foot-high statue of Hanuman at the famous Jakhu temple was built by JHS Svendgaard Laboratories, India's largest oral care products manufacturers, and the HC Nanda Trust. It is said that the reinforced concrete Hanuman idol had been built at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crores. Since several trees and foliage was cut to make space for the statue , the environmentalists and old-time residents of the town, however, were not happy with the development since they felt that the statue has spoiled Shimla's lush green skyline that is streaked with deodar and oak forests. It is around 2.5 kilometres from the Ridge at a height of 2,455 metres above the sea level. The giant 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman was unveiled at Jakhu Hanuman temple on 4 November 2010, by Abhishek Bachhan. The Jakhu Ropeway to the temple is an aerial lift that links a point near the centre of Shimla to the temple. It was developed by Jagson International Limited and opened in 2017. As the story goes, when Lakshmana was struck and rendered unconscious by Meghnath's powerful arrow, Lord Hanuman swiftly flew towards the Himalayas through the sky to fetch the life-saving herb, Sanjeevani Booti. During his flight, he saw Yaksha Rishi, who was meditating on the Jakhu Hill. Over time, the name of the place evolved from Yaksha → Yak → Yaku → Jaku, eventually becoming Jakhu. Hanuman ji descended onto the hill to gain more knowledge about the herb from the saint. The force of his landing was such that the once-towering Jakhu Hill was pushed halfway into the earth. After obtaining the information about the herb, Lord Hanuman resumed his mission towards the Dronagiri mountain. The spot where he had landed still bears his sacred footprints, which are preserved in a small marble shrine behind the main temple. Before leaving, Hanuman promised Yaksha Rishi that he would return the same way. However, because of urgency, Hanuman took a shorter route back, bypassing the Jakhu Hill. The waiting Rishi, distressed by Hanuman's absence, became anxious. It was then that Hanuman appeared to the Rishi, explained the reason for not returning as promised, and after this divine interaction, immediately disappeared. Shortly afterward, a "Self-manifested (Swayambhu) idol of Hanuman" appeared at the very spot, which is still enshrined in the temple today. It is a steep trek of about 30-45 minutes from the Ridge. However it takes around 6 minutes by the rope way, which charges Rs. 500/- per person for the round trip. The temple is also accessible through narrow roads by car or shared cabs. The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti Airport, located around 22 kilometres from Shimla. From the airport, we can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Shimla. The nearest railway station is Shimla Railway Station on the Kalka-Shimla toy train. Beware of the monkeys around the temple.

Mountain cable car
Jakhu Ropeway in Shimla is a popular cable car service that covers an 8 KM distance from the ridge to Jakhu Temple, taking around 5 minutes. It offers breathtaking views of the valley at 8054 feet above sea level. The ropeway has made it easier for tourists to reach the prestigious Jakhu temple and is considered one of the best attractions in Shimla.
The Jakhu Ropeway in Shimla offers a convenient and scenic way to reach the famous Jakhu Temple atop Jakhu Hill. Beginning near the Ridge, this aerial lift provides breathtaking panoramic views of Shimla town, the surrounding green valleys, and the majestic Himalayan peaks during its approximately 6-minute ride. It's a particularly appealing option for those who prefer to avoid the steep walk or drive up to the temple. The well-maintained gondolas can comfortably accommodate up to six passengers, ensuring a pleasant and secure journey. Safety is a priority, with the ropeway equipped with multiple safety devices and continuous CCTV monitoring. As you ascend, you'll be treated to stunning bird's-eye perspectives of the forests and the sprawling landscape of Shimla. The lower station is conveniently located near the Shiwalik Hotel, making it easily accessible from the main parts of the city. Upon reaching the top station, you'll find yourself within the premises of the revered Jakhu Temple. The Jakhu Ropeway operates from approximately 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM or 6:00 PM daily. Ticket prices for a round trip are ₹500 for adults. One-way tickets are also available at roughly half the price. Children below 3 years usually ride for free. While online booking might be available through some platforms, tickets can also be purchased directly at the ropeway counter. This ropeway not only serves as a mode of transport to the temple but also as a delightful sightseeing experience in itself, offering memorable views of the "Queen of Hills."

Decent spot with nice views, but not as adventurous as expected. Windows weren’t clean, which took away from the experience a bit. If you’re planning to visit, go by taxi—makes things easier. Worth a one-time visit.

The Shimla Ropeway is a fun and quick ride with amazing hill views, making it easy to reach Jakhu Temple. Sometimes there’s a wait, but overall a nice experience.
Leena — Google review
A hanuman temple in the top most hill in simla. The temple is beautiful and the climb is scenic. However most people would like to take a ropeway for easy comfortable climb. The ropeway is not very crowdy during the off peak hours and may need a wait of 30 min due to less carriages. 4-6 trolleys carrying to and fro. However the ropeway is from a diffrent place altogether from the climbing stairs. You may need to go upto the parking of the mall road and then take lift upstairs which takes away good 60 mins from the climbing point. Healthy person can climb up from stairs by then. Monkeys are a huge problem. Cannot be controlled. Don't take food items, water bottles, bags or they will take it away. You won't be able to handle them. The hanumanji idol is 108 feet and ineffable. It's huge and magnificient. You would certainly feel his enormous presence there.
Gaurav G — Google review
Great experience if one has never tried a ropeway. It’s about 6 mins for one way ride and costed us about Rs.500 per adult and around 350 per children aged above 5 yrs. Offers amazing view of the city and the waiting time was around 5 mins upon arrival. Tickets are made available at the base of the ropeway.
Vittal R — Google review
The ropeway ride was a really amazing experience. Looking at the beautiful mountains from the top was amazing. I am giving 4 stars just because I feel that it is a bit costly, 500 for one round trip. I just wish it had been a bit longer, it ended too quickly, and I would have enjoyed spending more time up there. I will suggest that, seat on the right hand side of the trolley to enjoy the views.
Himanshu K — Google review
There are several ways to go the Hanuman Temple at Jakhu in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. Previously the temple was approachable only by walking on a steep, stamina sapping road from near the Church on the Mall Road, but later shared taxis and cars started running. Of late, a ropeway has been started from near the Ridge which drops us to a point, which is hardly 100 metres from the Jakhu Temple. This ropeway, which is operated by a private company, M/S Jagson International Ltd. , was inaugurated by by Sh, Virbhadra Singh, the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 10/04/2017. Visitors to the Jakhu Temple can take a ride on this Gondola which passes through the Shimla Hills, Shimla town, and the forests. With only a short 6 minutes ride, one can easily reach the Jakhu Temple while enjoying the beauty of forests. It is said that this is one of the safest ropeway in all over india which has 48 safety devices fitted on the ropeway and all the movements of ropeway is monitored by CCTV at control room, but the astonishing part is that - The Certificate of Fitness which has been prominently displayed, states that the periodical inspection of this Jakhoo Ropeway has been carried out by the Inspector Ropeway cum-Executive Engineer Mechanical of Division HPPWD, Dhalli on dated 03-06-2025 and the Ropeway has been found fit for the public use. This certificate dated 03-06-2025 is not on the Letter Head of the Issuing Officer and nor has been signed by him and marked with a seal. (Photo of this dubious certificate is attached) It does not specifying the validity of the fitness period. Cabin Capacity of the Jakhu Ropeway is 6 passengers in each gondola. The Lower Station is situated near Shivalik Hotel U.S club, Shimla and the top station is situated in the premises of Jakhu Temple. Elderly people and those short of time would definitely love their ride on the Cable Car to the temple. The price for the Jakhu Ropeway ride is :- Rs. 500/- to and fro ride for Adults Rs. 270/- one way for Adults Rs. 400/- to and fro ride for children (3 to 12 years) Rs. 210/- one way for children (3 to 12 years) For Children below 3 years the ride is free. From the Ridge the distance to the Jakhu Ropeway Station and the ticket counter is around half a Kilometre away. Both at the Starting Station below , and the destination station at the temple, the Ropeway company has built big waiting halls with sitting arrangements and small cafeteria shops. After buying the tickets, we are required to wait in these halls, till we are asked to move towards the Gondolas. Beware of the monkeys around the Ropeway Stations.

Amazing Experience at Jakhu Ropeway! The ride was smooth and totally worth it. You get a breathtaking aerial view of Shimla surrounded by lush green hills. It saves both time and energy to reach Jakhu Temple, especially if you don’t want to trek. The staff was polite and everything felt well-managed and safe. A must-try experience for anyone visiting Shimla!

Johnnie's Wax Museum is the first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh, featuring life-sized wax figures of both local and international icons. This modest attraction showcases 16 widely-recognized personalities from various backgrounds, with a prominent statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the entrance. While some visitors appreciate the diverse collection, others feel that there is a lack of representation of Indian celebrities.
Beautiful location. Also staff was very nice. And you can enjoy there with you superheros. Go there and explore Himachal Pradesh (Shimla). Beautiful capital of Himachal Pradesh

Though it does have some really good statues but it is really very overpriced. Rs. 500 for 15-16 statues and that too u can see in maximum 10min. Some statues were really strange as they were randomly made. They should include more statues and also need to improve the ambiance or theme of the place to justify its price.

Very very nice place but they forget to put indian celebrities statues like amitabh, indira gandhi, shahrukh, sachin Tendulkar, sardar patel, there is no female statue, they focus on foreign and only current govt. Afterall good place on mall road

Honestly speaking, you will skip this place in your journey hearing the cost just to see few wax statue. Its near by mall road, walking distance. No doubt the place is empty, It was cost around 300+ don't remember the exact price for one person. I suggest go for Jakoo rope way to see Jakhu temple (Lord Hanuman Temple). You could purchase one way ticket in this cost. Wax statue I guess it was around 15 of them. Point to note: You get to see one wax statue absolutely for free on Jakhu ropeway, and that to of none other than our legendary actor Shree Amitabh Harivanshrai Bachan. If still you have never seen wax statue and wanted to see it, go ahead it's your wish. Photos for Wax Statue Museum is not added. Jakhu Ropeway photos is added along with Amitabh Bachan Wax Statue and Temple

The morning walk from the church takes you on a scenic route towards notable landmarks like The Gaiety Theatre, Bantony Castle, Catholic church, Grand hotel, and Kali Bari temple. As you continue your stroll, you'll encounter architectural heritage structures such as the railway board building and Gorton castle.
Nestled majestically on The Ridge, Christ Church in Shimla is undeniably a must-visit landmark for anyone exploring Himachal Pradesh. This iconic structure isn't just a church; it's a captivating blend of history, architecture, and serene beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Stepping onto The Ridge, the striking Neo-Gothic architecture of Christ Church immediately draws your eye. Its pale yellow facade, adorned with intricate details and a prominent clock tower, stands tall against the backdrop of the Himalayan peaks. It's a truly picturesque sight, offering fantastic photo opportunities, especially when illuminated at night. Inside, a sense of tranquility washes over you. The highlight is undoubtedly the five stunning stained-glass windows, each depicting a Christian virtue, that cast a mesmerizing play of colors as sunlight filters through. The church also boasts the largest pipe organ in the Indian subcontinent, a testament to its rich history dating back to 1857. More than just its architectural grandeur, Christ Church offers a peaceful escape from the bustling Mall Road. Christ Church on Mall Road, Shimla, is a beautiful and peaceful place. It is one of the oldest churches in North India, with stunning architecture and colorful glass windows. It looks even more lovely at night when it's lit up. You can sit nearby and enjoy the calm view. From the Old Bus Stand or Shimla Metro, take the Lift near the Cart Road. It will take you directly to Mall Road. From there, it's a short 5-10 minute walk to Christ Church. No vehicles are allowed on Mall Road, so walking is best.

Christ Church is not just a landmark of Shimla — it's a living piece of history. Standing tall on The Ridge with its signature yellow walls and neo-Gothic architecture, this beautiful church offers a serene escape from the busy tourist crowd. As soon as you step in, there's a feeling of peace and stillness. The stained-glass windows casting colorful reflections, the old wooden pews, and the soft echo of silence make you want to sit, reflect, or simply admire the beauty around. The church was built in 1857, making it the second oldest church in North India — and every inch of it whispers tales from the colonial era. Whether it's mist rolling in during monsoon, snow falling silently in winter, or the golden sunset during summer — Christ Church looks absolutely magical in every season. Best Parts: Beautiful architecture and photogenic exterior, especially at night when it lights up ✨ Peaceful interiors, perfect for a moment of reflection Right in the heart of The Ridge — easy to reach and surrounded by cafes & local markets Often hosts small prayer services and carol singing around Christmas

Built in 1857, it’s the second oldest church in North India, and its Neo-Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and tall spire transport you to another era. The church is especially stunning at sunrise or after sunset, when it’s beautifully lit and surrounded by the buzz of the Mall Road yet holds a quiet, spiritual aura. Whether you’re inside listening to the calm silence or outside admiring its beauty against the Himalayan backdrop, you’ll feel a deep sense of peace. Perfect for photographers, history lovers, and spiritual seekers alike.

The Christ Church of Shimla, in Himachal Pradesh, India, is located on one end of the Mall, on the way from Ridge To US Club . This tall, Yellow coloured structure on the Ridge, in Shimla, has become a landmark for anyone exploring Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. This iconic structure is not just a church but has become an identity for Shimla due to its historic existence, architecture and prime location. The moment we reach the Ridge, the Neo-Gothic architecture of Christ Church immediately draws our eyes . Its yellow facade with a clock tower, against the background of the Himalayan peaks, simply looks amazing. This church is a living legacy of the British Times. It is said that the Christ Church, of Shimla is the second oldest church in North India after the St. John’s Church in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Worship here is conducted both in Hindi and English. The Church is affiliated to the Church of North India. Shimla was mostly forest when the Europeans first came to the hills in 1820s. They sought permission from the Raja of Keonthal, under whose state much of Simla area fell, to build their residences and then built this church in the year 1857. The Christ Church was designed by Colonel J. T Boileau in 1844, and the cornerstone was laid on 9 September 1844 by Bishop Daniel Wilson, who was the Bishop of Calcutta. The church was consecrated on 10 January 1857 by Bishop Thomas Daltrey, who was the Bishop of Madras. The estimated cost of construction at that time was around Rs. 50,000/-. The clock on the Christ Church was donated by Colonel Dumbleton in 1860. A British made pipe-organ was installed in 1899. The first Indian Chaplain of Christ Church Shimla was Rev. B.S. Chander (1948 to 1957). Christ Church continues to be well maintained and is in relatively good condition. The clock's original mechanical mechanism has been replaced with an electrical one . The church is lit at night to illuminate it. The church has five stained glass windows and it houses the largest pipe organ in the Indian subcontinent. Even now the Church continues to serve as a place of worship for the Christians in Shimla and remains a cherished landmark and tourist attraction. There is no entry fees. The height of the Christ Church is around 90 feet. There are several paintings inside the Church, which portray the life story of Jesus Christ. The Christ Church is open from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:15 PM to 5:30 PM every day.

Love the beauty and grandeur of this age old church. Located on The Ridge at Shimla’s iconic Mall Road, this neo‑Gothic landmark (est. 1857) is the second oldest church in North India. The Ridge is located just nearby. Ideal for photo lovers. Iconic and historically significant.

Christ Church in Shimla is a must-visit during the summer months, offering a blend of historical significance and architectural beauty. Built in 1857, this neo-Gothic structure stands prominently on The Ridge, its pale yellow façade and towering spire visible from various parts of the city. The church’s interior is adorned with five exquisite stained glass windows, each symbolizing virtues like Faith, Hope, and Charity, casting colorful patterns as sunlight streams through. Summer, spanning April to June, provides pleasant weather ideal for exploring the church and its surroundings. The cool climate contrasts the heat of the plains, making it a comfortable retreat. Visitors often appreciate the serene ambiance inside the church, a peaceful respite from the bustling Ridge outside. The church is also renowned for its historical pipe organ, one of the largest in the Indian subcontinent, adding to its charm. Open daily from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Christ Church welcomes tourists and worshippers alike. Photography is permitted, but visitors are encouraged to maintain silence and respect the sanctity of the space. Whether you’re an architecture enthusiast, history buff, or someone seeking tranquility, Christ Church in Shimla offers a memorable experience.

Notable street
Mall Rd in Shimla, India is a picturesque pedestrian-only street lined with historic colonial buildings and an array of shops, eateries, and hotels. One of its notable landmarks is the Gaiety Theatre, a Victorian-style structure built in 1887 during British rule. This iconic theater has hosted various cultural events and theatrical performances over the years.
Busiest place and huge tourist attraction place. Greeted by a wide variety of restaurants, clubs, shops, and more. The stores along Mall Road are renowned for their woollen clothes, handcrafted works, books, jewelleries and many more local outlets.
SACHIN R — Google review
Mall Road in Shimla is one of the most popular and lively places to visit in the city. It is the heart of Shimla, full of shops, cafés, restaurants, and old colonial-style buildings that give it a unique charm. Walking along the road is a delightful experience, especially in the evening when the place lights up and becomes even more vibrant. The road is closed to vehicles, which makes it perfect for a peaceful stroll without traffic disturbances. You can find a wide variety of shops here, from local handicrafts and woolens to branded stores. There are also plenty of food options, whether you want to try street snacks, bakeries, or sit down for a meal at a restaurant. The Gaiety Theatre and Town Hall are historical landmarks worth seeing along the way. The views of the mountains from Mall Road are also beautiful, especially on a clear day. It does get crowded during peak tourist season, but that also adds to its lively atmosphere. Prices can be on the higher side compared to other local markets, but the experience is worth it. Overall, Mall Road is a must-visit for anyone coming to Shimla for shopping, leisure, and soaking in the city’s charm.

Kali Bari is not a commercial institute. It is more like Dharmasala than a hotel. One can get a room by paying 500/- for a day. There are some 40+ rooms for devotees.Dormetory facility is also available. One has to pay Rs 100/- for daily accomodation. Here no room service is available.Devotees can get 24 hrs hot water from out side the room.Tea, snacks, lunch & dinner can be obtained from canteen daily at a cheap rate. This is situated at high up in the hill & visiting Simla mall is easy for all. I found it quite nice at the given rates .

The Shimla Kali Bari Temple is an old, ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, who is also known as Shyamala. It is hence also believed that the Shimla city is named after the goddess Shyamala. The Shimla Kali Bari Temple is located on the Bantony Hill, near Mall Road, beyond the Scandal Point. As the story goes, this temple was originally built in the vicinity of Rothney Castle on the Jakhoo Hill, in the year 1845, by a Bengali Brahmin Priest, Ram Charan Brahamchari but the British shifted the location of the temple to the Bantony Hill. The temple is run by a trust which was initially formed in the year 1902 and mainly consists of Bengali members . The idol of the main deity, Goddess Kali, is made of wood, painted blue. The temple is easily accessible from the Mall Road by walking but beware of monkeys in the area and the temple. There is another temple of lord Shiva within the precincts. The courtyard of the Kali Bari is open and spacious. The road leading to the temple is lined up with temporary shops. Inside the temple, there is a provision of keeping shoes and for washing hands .

Shimla Kali Bari is truly a divine and peaceful place that offers much more than just a temple visit. Located very close to Mall Road, it’s easily accessible on foot and serves as a perfect escape from the tourist rush while still being centrally located. This temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is not only a place of worship but also a spiritual sanctuary filled with calm, devotion, and tradition. The temple holds immense significance, especially for Bengali devotees, as it was originally established in the early 19th century by Bengali followers of Maa Kali. The architecture reflects classic Bengali temple design—simple yet graceful. The idol of Maa Kali is beautifully adorned and worshipped with great devotion. The spiritual energy inside the temple is strong, yet incredibly soothing. What adds to the uniqueness of this place is that Shimla Kali Bari also offers accommodation facilities. There is a Dharamshala/guest house within the temple premises, which is affordable, clean, and safe. It is especially convenient for solo travelers, families, or elderly visitors who are looking for budget-friendly and centrally located lodging. The rooms are basic but well-maintained, and the surroundings are quiet, making it ideal for a peaceful stay. In addition to lodging, simple vegetarian food (Bengali-style bhog or meals) is often served to the guests and devotees, especially during festivals or on special puja days. The food is homemade, clean, and served with devotion. However, for regular meals, there are plenty of restaurants and eateries nearby on Mall Road and The Ridge, just a short walk away. So both traditional temple prasad and outside dining options are easily accessible. During festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Diwali, the temple becomes even more vibrant and colorful with beautiful decorations, lighting, bhajans, and cultural programs. The community vibe during these times is truly heartwarming, and it’s an amazing way to witness the cultural richness of Bengali traditions in the hills of Himachal. Overall, Shimla Kali Bari is much more than a temple – it offers a full spiritual and cultural experience, complete with stay, food, and soul-soothing surroundings. Whether you’re a devotee, a traveler, or someone simply looking to connect with inner peace, this is a must-visit destination in Shimla.

It is a must visit temple every time and any number of times you go to Shimla. They have an escalator facility for just rs. 20 and then in return you can take a cable ride (ropeway) for mall road directly. But when we went there, the escalator and cable ride was not available due to power cut due heavy rain.

We went for the breakfast menu, they didn’t have the north Indian one available so I got the Eggs with sides(2/10) pale looking scrambled eggs, burnt sausages, weird hash browns with 2 slices of charred tomatoes. It didn’t even look appetising. We also ordered non veg club sandwich (worst 0/10). If I could use one word to describe it, it’d be disastrous. Thinnest slice of egg and the tiniest amount of chicken with burnt and bland fries which felt like they were cooked in extremely used oil. Service was mid (had to raise my hands for 3-5 mins for someone to notice and alert someone else). The place looks fine from the inside and has a nice street view but the food is insanely horrible and extremely overpriced for the quality offered. I do not recommend.

A bit pricey for type of cuisine and sophistication of the cook. Tasty oriental cuisine, but standard fare I have had at 50% the price at metros (Rs 250 instead of Rs 525). Ambiance is nice. Service was a bit lacking. Would have liked being served and provided water refills without having to ask for it.

La Pino'z Pizza is a cozy pizzeria located in the heart of Shimla, near Mall Road. Despite its limited space, it offers a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. The place is known for its delicious thin-crust pizzas that are generously loaded with cheese and toppings. One of their specialties is the hot tandoori pizza, which is described as 'yummy' by visitors. The restaurant also provides unlimited oregano, chili flakes, and sauce to complement your meal.
Amazing food!!! The taste was Excellent, thin crust pizzas, loaded with cheese and toppings. Reasonable rate for pizzas and drinks. They even provide you unlimited oregano, chilli flakes and sauce as in contrast to other pizza outlets 😉 Not very spacious, but adequate for a group of 2-6 people.

A Disappointing Culinary Experience at La Pinos The Order • I have ordered a Korean veg pizza, a stuffed garlic bread, and a mint mojito. Hygiene Concerns • Food preparation was done before the sitting area; hygiene is a crime here. • Every worker was wearing a head cap, but hand hygiene was on a long, long holiday. Poor Quality and Recommendation • The ordered food was so bad that we had to pack it and give it to a cow. • The bread was of such poor quality, and the paneer seemed to have adulteration, with the taste being nowhere near what it should be. • If we compare it with Domino's pizza, Domino's is much, much better. • La Pinos is costly and unhygienic. Not recommended at all.

The Brew Estate is a popular rustic-industrial brew pub chain with outlets across Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. The Shimla location, situated behind the famous Christ Church on The Ridge, offers a diverse selection of craft beers and cocktails such as Lovers Delight and Kiss & Cry. This chic cafe on Mall Road serves in-house brewed beers like wheat beer, lager, and stout alongside gourmet dishes like wood-fired pizzas and tacos.
Nice brewery. Good food. Good hospitality, polite and humble waiters. Take care of likes and dislikes and any modifications you wish in the item ordered.

Situated right behind the famous christ church of mall road shimla. 1. Tasty food options are available both veg and non veg. 2. View outside the restaurant is totally obstructed with electric poles. 3. Since IPL season is going on, the place screens IPL matches, with full on commentary, totally killing the natural vibe of the place. 4. It has good beer options, I tried apple cider and IP. IP is great if you are a beer lover. Apple cider is too tangy. 5. We also had Thukpa both veg and non veg, and korean chicken wings. 6. The place also offers hukkah, 1400/- for 1 hour.

Overall had an amazing time there, as i went there with my husband to spend our evening! Just had a minor inconvenience with the waitress… as we were moving out after having our food….my husband and i decided to click pictures near the lobby, she arrived there and started humming a romantic song & smiling at the same time- seeking my husband’s attention towards her which i felt was inappropriate! The restaurant should teach her some manners, how to deal with married couples! Otherwise the ambience & food was lovely✨

This is a wrong choice if you are here for beer or food or anything for that matter. The beer is medicore at best. The lager is not supposed to taste sour but it does. The wheat beer does not have any taste of wheat. We ordered the veg pizza. It was filled with mayonnaise and oil (as seen in the photo) which tasted bad. For the price, it is shitty.

Nestled in the picturesque hills of Shimla, Cafe Under Tree is a delightful eatery known for its tranquil ambiance and scenic setting. Tucked under a sprawling tree, this charming cafe offers a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Serving an array of delectable dishes, including local Himachali fare and international favorites like pizza and pasta, it's a perfect spot to savor a meal amidst nature.
If you want to enjoy your breakfast w a view, definitely hit this spot, you won’t regret. My personal favourite is their arrabiata pasta and hand tossed pizza.

This cafe location is so beautiful! The view is stunning. There was only one person who took order and served and hence everything was too slow. The food was below average. As most of the dishes were not available we ordered pizza which was too bland and we couldn’t even finish it. The place has so much potential.

A little cafe just walk away from Jakku Temple. It has breathtaking view and food was decently good too. I had Kashmiri khawa which was nice and staff is polite too. You can visit here for the serenity and a good cup of coffee.

Well located in the ramparts of Jakhu Temple. Very friendly staff and prompt courteous service. We ate in: tomato cilantro, cream of tomato with croutons and hot and sour soup. Excellent flavorful and the latter perfectly crunchy. The idli sambhar was good. Music and ambience was very pleasant. Memorable for us.

Cafe Under the Tree is located near the mandir and has a very peaceful charm to it. The overall views from the seating area are really beautiful, making it a nice spot to sit back and relax for a while. The host was warm and welcoming, and the staff was polite and helpful, which added to the experience. We ordered a pizza, fries, cold coffee, and hot chocolate. While the presentation was decent, we found the taste of the food to be quite average compared to the ambience of the place. However, if you’re visiting mainly for the vibes, views, and a quiet setting, this café definitely delivers. With a little more focus on improving the food quality, it has the potential to become a fantastic all-round spot.

Giving two stars just because of the location, and the stunning views this cafe provides. Went here on a weekend, the place was completely empty, hence I got a little skeptical at first. Ordered a latte along with classic fries. Coffee was below average for the price, didn’t had any taste or whatsoever. Had to ask them to do it again. Fries were served without even salt, which was disappointing. You can definitely skip if you’re hungry!

Viceregal Lodge, also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, is a historic structure in Shimla that served as the summer residence of the Indian Viceroy from 1888 to 1946. It is a significant site for history and architecture enthusiasts, featuring Mock-Tudor architecture surrounded by well-maintained gardens. The lodge has been repurposed into an advanced university complex, limiting access to only a few staterooms during guided tours.
Viceregal Lodge (Indian Institute of Advanced Study), Shimla If you're in Shimla, Viceregal Lodge is an unmissable gem — a stunning blend of history, architecture, and serenity. As a Level 9 Google Local Guide, I found this place to be one of the most well-preserved and informative heritage sites in India. 🕰️ History & Heritage: Built in 1888, this magnificent British-era structure served as the residence of the Viceroy of India. Walking through its grand halls, you can almost feel the echoes of major pre-independence political decisions. It's also where the Shimla Conference of 1945 took place. 🏰 Architecture & Grounds: The Scottish Baronial-style architecture is jaw-dropping. From beautifully carved wooden interiors to its lush green lawns and panoramic views of the surrounding hills — every corner is a postcard. Perfect for history buffs, architecture lovers, and photographers alike. 🎟️ Entry & Guide Services: The guided tour inside the building is well-organized (limited to certain rooms for preservation reasons). The guides are knowledgeable and narrate history in an engaging manner. The entry ticket is reasonably priced, and students often get a discount. 📸 Photo Tip: Photography is allowed only outside the building, but the gardens and exteriors are more than enough to fill your camera roll! 🧼 Cleanliness & Facilities: Very well-maintained premises. Clean restrooms, drinking water stations, and well-marked walking paths. 🅿️ Parking & Access: Ample parking is available near the entrance. Though a bit uphill, it’s accessible by car or taxi. Wheelchair access is limited but the staff is helpful. ☕ Nearby Amenities: There’s a small café and bookstore inside the campus. Also close to other Shimla attractions like the State Museum and Annandale. 🔁 Best Time to Visit: Early mornings or late afternoons. Autumn and Spring bring out the best colors in the garden landscape. --- Final Verdict: Whether you're a traveler, student, or just someone seeking a peaceful retreat with a story — Viceregal Lodge is an experience, not just a destination. Highly recommended for a half-day visit in Shimla!

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) is a research institute in Shimla, housed in the former Viceregal Lodge, a must visit Historical place..built between 1884 and 1888 as the summer residence for the Viceroy of India. After India's independence, the lodge was renamed Rashtrapati Niwas (President's House). Loads of jaw dropping advanced features built e.g. Concealed Electrical wiring, advanced Fire fighting system, 200 years old working pendulum, walnut interiors. etc... Its amazing..!! It also contains rare archives, If you are visiting Shimla and keep interest in History...a must must visit. PS - Photography inside the building is prohibited.

The Viceregal Lodge in Shimla is one of those places that instantly takes you back in time. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by extraordinary architecture, intricate woodwork, and an atmosphere that reflects the grandeur of the British era. The building itself is absolutely stunning — every corridor, staircase, and room tells a story of its own. The lush gardens outside and the panoramic views from the hilltop add even more charm to the visit. We took the guided tour, which was informative and helped us understand the historical significance of each section of the lodge. However, I personally felt that the tour was a bit rushed. Even though the guide mentioned that we could take our time, we were quickly moved from one room to another. I would have loved to pause longer and really soak in the details — the furniture, the photos, and the artifacts that make this place so special. Despite that, it’s a must-visit attraction in Shimla. The architecture alone makes it worth the trip, and if you’re someone who appreciates history, art, or old-world charm, you’ll definitely enjoy it here. I’d recommend visiting early in the day to truly take in its beauty and peaceful surroundings.

I found this place the most attractive in Shimla. If you love history, you will be fascinated by its design and architecture. Everything inside this building is around 187 yrs old (be it the furnitures or the building design or whatever inside). Well maintained. This was the residence of Viceroy in British India Time, later the presidential residence and now is Indian Institute of Advanced Studies for Post Doctoral Fellowship. The Post Doctoral fellows living there are very lucky 😀. Must visit with the guided tour, you will get to know many things.

Vicergal lodge named as 13 British viceroys used this placec as residence and used as their capital for 8months every year as summer capital. Draft of partition of India was discussed here. Dr S Radhakrishnan converted this to educational institute IIAS, now offers advanced studies in social science and humanities. British era history involved in this building. 137 years old now. But sad to see poor maintenance and upkeep of structure inspite of hefty entry fee to stay 30 mins inside the building as guided tour.
Amit D — Google review
Nestled amidst the misty peaks of Shimla, the Viceregal Lodge stands as a testament to India's colonial past, a grand edifice that whispers tales of viceroys and vanished empires. As I approached this architectural marvel, perched on Observatory Hill, the crisp mountain air carried the scent of pine and history, instantly transporting me to an era of opulence and intrigue. Built in 1888 as the summer residence for the British Viceroy of India, the lodge exudes an aura of regal elegance. Its Tudor-style architecture, with sloping roofs, ornate chimneys, and intricate stonework, blends seamlessly with the Himalayan landscape. The red-brick facade, adorned with Gothic arches and stained-glass windows, evokes a fairy-tale castle, yet grounded in the rugged beauty of the hills. Stepping inside, I was greeted by polished wooden floors that creaked softly underfoot, echoing the footsteps of luminaries like Lord Kitchener and Lord Curzon, who once paced these halls. The interiors are a treasure trove of Victorian splendor. The Durbar Hall, with its soaring ceilings and crystal chandeliers, once hosted lavish balls and diplomatic gatherings. Antique furniture, Persian rugs, and oil paintings of British royalty adorn the rooms, while the library shelves brim with leather-bound tomes that hint at the intellectual pursuits of yore. Wandering through the private chambers, I imagined the whispers of secret councils and the clink of champagne glasses, all preserved in meticulous detail by the Archaeological Survey of India. What truly captivates is the lodge's panoramic views. From the terrace, Shimla unfolds like a watercolor painting—rolling hills dotted with colonial bungalows, the distant snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas piercing the sky, and the bustling Mall Road below. On a clear day, the vista is breathtaking, a reminder of why this spot was chosen for respite from the plains' heat. The surrounding gardens, with their manicured lawns and exotic flora, offer serene spots for reflection, where one can lose track of time amidst the chirping birds and gentle breeze. Visiting Viceregal Lodge isn't just a historical detour; it's an immersive journey into India's layered heritage. The entry fee is modest, and guided tours provide fascinating insights without overwhelming the senses. For history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a peaceful escape, this lodge is indispensable. It left me with a profound appreciation for the past's enduring charm, urging me to return and uncover more secrets. In a world of fleeting trends, Viceregal Lodge remains a beautiful, unchanging beacon of grace and grandeur.

The Viceregal Lodge, also known as the Rashtrapati Niwas, is one of Shimla’s most magnificent and historically rich landmarks. Perched on Observatory Hill, this grand Scottish-style mansion was once the summer residence of the British Viceroy of India — a place where many important decisions shaping modern India were made. Built in 1888, the architecture is a masterpiece of grey stone walls, intricate woodwork, and lush gardens that overlook the hills. Every corridor inside tells a story — from the polished teak interiors to the grand staircase that echoes the footsteps of history. The guided tour gives fascinating insights into the colonial era, showing original furniture, photographs, and relics from the time when Shimla was the summer capital of British India. Outside, the lawns are perfectly manicured, offering breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere ideal for slow walks and reflection. Whether you’re a history lover, architecture enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates timeless beauty, the Viceregal Lodge is a must-visit in Shimla.

Situated across from the Viceregal Lodge, this park is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists who appreciate outdoor activities.

This place has very limited birds... People going from village can see more hens in there backyard than in this bird park hardly it is in 1200 sqft ... A good place for family with small kids so you can sit and enjoy for 15-20 mins else you can complete the whole sightseeing in 3-5 mins and it's not hygienic to sit as we can smell birds shit very strongly..

A place to visit for those who're in birds and animals. Though there isn't much variety of birds here. There are few local specimens of birds. It would hardly take one about 10 minutes to tour this tiny place. The only plus point is you get to see birds in open. It would have been great if their management could get more non-local specimens of birds and keep it clean and maintained. Should you go there? Well, if you're having kids, then it's fun. Or if you're visiting the museum (Indian Institute of Advanced Studies) right opposite this park. It's not worth visiting it, especially if you're far away from this place

Best Place to visit in Shimla: We visited this place based on a random recommendation from a local, and it turned out to be an incredible experience. The museum is stunning, highly photogenic, and has an international feel. It is impeccably clean, surrounded by lush greenery, and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful museums I have visited in India. Located about 4 km from Kachi Ghati, Shimla, the entry fee is ₹50 per person. However, if you wish to take pictures, an additional ₹100 charge applies for mobile cameras—without it, photography is not allowed. As you enter, you will have to buy tickets and can carry your phones/camera....good thing is photography is allowed inside the museum, so keep collecting your memories. A place for anyone who's genuinely interested in that sort of stuff. This is a muesum which showcases the history of Indian Army. The artifacts and antique pieces are quite good and it depicts the journey of our brave soldiers. It beautifully showcases the courage and sacrifices of Indian soldiers through well-maintained galleries filled with war artifacts, medals, weapons, uniforms, photographs, first day postal stamps, and detailed stories of heroism. One can take pics with Tank, diffrent types of Gun, RCL. Himachal gallery showcases traditional dresses, stories and details of main tourist attractions. The glass house houses numerous variety of cactus, crotons, flowery plants. Next to it is small children park. It’s an educational and emotional experience for both adults and children. After exploring all above, one feel hungry so there is a nice cafeteria where you find tasty snacks & drinks. Decent tickets price around 100₹ per person and 50₹ for children. There is ample parking available nearby. Very courteous staff. My compliments to the Director and his team for very well maintaining museum. St. Michael's Catholic Cathedral, dating back to the Victorian era in 1886, is a significant landmark and a marvel of Neo-Gothic architecture in Shimla. The French-gothic style interiors can accommodate around 400 worshipers. Situated near Shimla Bus Stand, it is a popular tourist spot with stunning religious architecture including towering spires and intricate stained-glass windows.
St. Michael’s Cathedral is a peaceful and beautiful church in Shimla with a rich history. It is one of the oldest churches and feels more real and untouched than Christ Church, which is very popular and well-maintained. This church looks older and gives you the feeling of how things were in the past. It is open for everyone, and you can sit inside quietly for as long as you want. There are no strict entry limits like in Christ Church. The place is calm, less crowded, and also gives a great view of Shimla. If you want peace and a true church experience, do visit this one.

The history of the cathedral is as rich as its architecture, with stories of its construction and dedication to St. Michael the Archangel being passed down from generation to generation. Visitors to the cathedral are always struck by its peaceful and serene atmosphere, which provides a welcome respite from the chaos of the city outside. Whether you are a local or a tourist, a visit to St. Michael's Catholic Cathedral is a must. You will leave with a sense of peace and inspiration, having witnessed the beauty of this historic landmark.

Good spacious place but very crowded now a days. Church is very beautiful and have closing hours, so better check before go. ( normally 2pm -5 pm closing hours) Many shops outlets, bar, restaurants available for shopping and dining at the Mall Road A must visit place with family and friends. View from the Mall Road is very nice. One can opt the LIFT to get on the church or Mall Road. Lift is available near to parking and it costs Rs 10 per person.

A good place to visit near mall road in shimla. We need to climb few stairs to reach this place. The lights in the evening make it a tourist attraction. The scene in three idiots movie has added to its glamour factor. It also boasts of few restaurants and stalls.

Its located near the dc office. The view from this church is mindblowing and serene. The church was build by lord rippon. Only taxis that need to go to the church is allowed through the area, since its a cantonment area. The church premises is always filled with devotional song and soothing breeze. The church can easily be accessed from lower bazaar and upper bazaar. A small grotto of st mary is placed in the front of the church.

Holy Catholic mass timings are displayed on the board. The Mass is according to Latin Rite celebrated in Hindi. English Hymns also sung during the Hindi Mass. Everyday Holy Mass is celebrated. On Sundays at 10.00am in Summer and at 10.30am in Winter. We went on a Saturday evening in May, 2024. Rosary started at 5.30pm followed by Mass. This was once a functional Cathedral, even Lahore in Pakistan was a part of this. Despite the Government of India designating it as a 'Heritage Building', there are visible and potentially dangerous cracks developing in the church structure.

One of the oldest and nicest churches in Shimla.. Located in a elevated place, gives a good view over the surroundings. Church environment is great and is well maintained

Devicos Restaurant & D Lounge Bar is a popular spot located on the bustling Mall road in Shimla. Despite its shiny and new appearance, it has been serving customers since 1970. The restaurant offers a mix of Indian and Chinese fast food as well as main dishes in a casual, dimly lit space with split-level seating.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Must-Visit Gem on Mall Road! Devicos Restaurant on Shimla Mall Road is an absolute delight for anyone who loves authentic North Indian food. We had the Daal Tadka, Paneer Butter Masala, Laccha Paratha, Garlic Naan, and Butter Roti — and every single dish was bursting with flavor. The Daal Tadka had the perfect smoky tempering and rich taste, exactly how a comforting daal should be. The Paneer Butter Masala was creamy, mildly spiced, and had incredibly soft paneer that just melted in the mouth. Pairing it with the crisp, flaky Laccha Paratha, buttery Garlic Naan, and warm Butter Roti made the whole experience unforgettable. The service was fast and attentive, and the atmosphere was welcoming without being too crowded, even during peak hours. A special mention to the owner, who was incredibly warm and hospitable. He personally checked on guests and ensured everyone was comfortable — a rare and heartwarming gesture that added a personal touch to our meal. Highly recommended for families, foodies, and anyone who wants to enjoy a proper Indian meal in the heart of Shimla. Will definitely return on our next visit!

This is a vibrant dining spot offering a blend of Indian, Continental, and Chinese cuisine, along with a well-stocked bar. Known for its lively ambiance and stylish decor, it’s a favorite for both casual meals and evening gatherings. The restaurant’s extensive menu includes everything from classic Indian curries to popular international dishes, while the lounge bar provides a relaxing setting to unwind with expertly crafted cocktails. It’s a top choice for food and nightlife in Shimla. But, the plate they serve me was cold. Not room temperture but realy cold. This is the first time in my life that I had to complain to the water who took it back and then right in front of me, put it in a microwave. I was shock but did not say anything.

Love the vibe here. The staff were really nice. We ordered Thukpa, aaloo tikki and coffee there. All the items were good. Must visit.
Kirti B — Google review
If you’re into overpriced food with average taste, this is your place. When I visited, a mentally unstable person was yelling nonstop — honestly, it was unsettling. The food? Nothing special. You’ll find the same taste at any random spot. The only real win is the decor — nice lighting and cool pictures. Beyond that, just another overhyped, fancy-looking place with nothing to back it up.
Vineet — Google review
If you wanna enjoy good food, nice ambience, it's the right place. They have very polite staff, good services. The price is little high but justified as it's a tourist place. You can also enjoy hard drink here. The single serve is suitable for a single person only or you can say 2 serve can accommodate 3 person. This place is suitable for kids and food is fresh and tasty. Its clean and service is also fast enough. If you come in evening late hours you might get lucky to grab a table. They also have a party hall in basement which can also be a good place for a get-together.

Very tasty food and very nice staff … impressive.. thanks
Dilpreet S — Google review
A really nice bar if you like to enjoy your drinks without any loud music and too much crowd. This place mostly has one or two tables empty to host your gang. The food is decent enough, nothing spectacular. But the ambience is nice and they have most of the options readily available from their menu.

Nice cozy restaurant near the mall in Shimla. I went for dinner and ordered Sweet corn soup, french fries, butter naan and murg tikka lababdar. For me the taste of food is average.

The staff is friendly and professional, providing excellent service. The atmosphere is lively, with pleasant music playing in the background. Good café for a one-time visit. Food is decent, nothing special in terms of taste. The view’s the real highlight—try coming in winter or during the monsoon for the best experience. Taste-wise, it’s strictly average.

Cecil Restaurant

Restaurant
Cecil Restaurant, located in Oberoi Cecil, is a renowned and luxurious dining destination in Shimla. The restaurant exudes a classic Victorian-era charm with its colonial architecture, vintage chandeliers, and dark wood wall panels. Guests can enjoy personalized recommendations from the head chef and exceptional customer service. The menu features a variety of Pan-Indian, Himachali, and international dishes.
What I liked most is the customer service and how the chef explained about the dishes and gave some recommendations do try 😃 and the presentation of the dishes.. the food was tasty ... the place is super expensive , no doubts about it . Once a while to pamper yourself , nothing wrong in it 😉
Naada N — Google review
The food is a mix of various cuisines: Indian (mostly North Indian, with the occasional Himachali dish too, like sidu), Western (sandwiches, pastas, risottos and so on), and some perennial East Asian favourites. We had dinner here one day and tried the chicken noodle soup (East Asian style), the chicken pepper steak, and a fish and chips from the ‘Scooby’ menu, for children, for our daughter. All were pretty good. Since we were staying at the Cecil, our room tariff included a buffet breakfast at the Restaurant. While the items/sections on the buffet are the usual—cereals, fruit, cheeses and cold cuts, Western breakfast items, dosas/idlis/etc, parathas, and so on—the quality of pretty much everything on the buffet is excellent. Also, in a pleasant change from the usual, the eggs made to order don’t just include the more predictable omelettes and scrambles, but also more uncommon (but delicious) egg dishes, such as akuri, shakshouka, and Turkish-style eggs.
Madhulika L — Google review
Beautiful and historical surroundings with wonderful views over the mountains. Such a wonderful place to have figure licking food. We ordered soup and some starters which was excellent. The service was good and all ages were well catered for.

The food in this restaurant was superb. The choice and flavors were amazing. The staff were very helpful in suggesting local dishes and altering things to suit our whims. Will like to visit this place again.
Rajeev S — Google review
So like my every other ob experience, they always seem to be consistent and acing at the hospitality section ..no doubt. But what disappointed me was the food here. It was below avg esp for a star hotel like ob which surprised me because all our experiences with food have been well beyond wonderful with other OB destinations. ( u must try sukhvilas). I often order a Margherita pizza from places new to me as I consider it to be a litmus test. And Cecil failed miserably.😐 So if you are looking for a very very mediocre food wrapped up with great hospitality ..go for it! Pricing is obviously on the higher side but then its like every other star hotel. I would not book here again unless the food is improved.
