Mon Bridge, the longest wooden footbridge in Thailand, is a popular attraction in Sangkhla Buri. The village offers various nearby attractions such as the market and main temples within walking distance. For those interested in visiting Wat Wang Wiwekaram and Chedi Buddhakaya uphill, renting a motorbike is recommended. The town was established by Mon families fleeing Burma over 60 years ago, resulting in a diverse cultural mix of Karen, Mon, Thai, and Burmese residents.
This place is really peaceful. It's rich in Mon culture and walking over the wooden bridge as well as floating bamboo bridge under Mon bridge was a great experience. You can rent a boat for 500 baht and tour the ruined monastery and do the sightseeing as well.
M M — Google review
The bridge offers scenic views of the surrounding reservoir and local life, with many highlighting the beautiful scenery at sunrise and sunset. I enjoy walking across the functional pedestrian bridge, observing traditional Mon houses, and experiencing the local way of life. The surrounding area features small eateries and craft stalls.
Han K — Google review
The Mon Bridge is the longest wooden bridge in Thailand and a beautiful symbol of Sangkhla Buri’s cultural harmony. Walking across it gives you a scenic view of the reservoir and local life. In the morning, you can see locals giving alms to monks, and in the evening, the golden light reflects beautifully on the water. It’s a great place to experience both nature and the cultural richness of the Mon and Thai communities. This long wooden bridge is full of character and a must-see in Sangkhla Buri. Locals walk across it daily, and you can experience both Thai and Mon traditions here. Great views, especially at sunrise or sunset.
G-10-DRA Y — Google review
A wooden bridge built for connect the Mon village and Thai village across the dam. It's an iconic place for people visiting the Mon village to shoot some photos.
Sheroku H — Google review
According to the locals in Sangkhla Buri, Mon Bridge is a major attraction in the city, 850 meters long and the longest wooden bridge in Thailand. I came out a little crooked in relation to the bridge, so I ended up walking the bamboo bridge to the other side, where there are cafes and restaurants, and walked back over Mon Bridge. A nice walk of about 1.75 kilometers round trip, where you also see both restaurants and accommodations, as well as private residences on rafts on both sides of the bridge.
John S — Google review
A motorcycle ride to Mon Bridge is unforgettable—scenic mountain roads, fresh air, and a stunning wooden bridge with a peaceful village vibe at the end. Mon Bridge in Sangkhla Buri is a must-visit in Kanchanaburi—Thailand’s longest wooden bridge, built by the Mon community. Walking across feels peaceful and cultural, especially at sunrise when the mist covers the river and locals give alms to monks. The views are stunning, the atmosphere is unique, and the nearby Mon village adds so much charm. A beautiful mix of history, tradition, and scenery all in one place
Dholom W — Google review
The wood construction is impressive and it feels satisfying to walk over the bridge. From here you can also see the sunken temple via boat tour.

Restaurant
Jok Nang Yong is a popular breakfast spot near Mon Bridge, offering traditional Thai porridge with eggs and pork, along with crispy dough sticks as a side dish. The restaurant has a self-service setup and is known for its delicious and clean food, including pork hangle curry and samosas. It's recommended to visit after 9:00 a.m. to avoid long lines.
Food is good, easy to digest. Taste is good. I love the way they have the unlimited condiments on the table. Beverages are good. The Mon's fried noodle is only thing not good enough for me. Service is self-service. Atmosphere is great.

Popular spot for breakfast in Mon Village, Sangkhlaburi. Minced pork with blanched eggs on porridge is the best-seller dish here. You can also try the chicken curry with nan bread, but beware of its spiciness.
Triet L — Google review
Delicious breakfast right after the monks had passed through the street. Tasty food.
Ronald C — Google review
Food is good but the staffs are super unfriendly and impatient. They should treat customers respectfully and shouldn’t be working there if they can’t provide that.
Mc J — Google review
Delicious breakfast in Mon village, great place to get food after giving alms to the monks in the morning. Porridge(Jok) and roti with curry are delicious. Myanmar tea and Thai tea were also good; however, Myanmar tea was a bit too sweet. Myanmar noodle was average, not really recommend. Everything else was good!

Mon Village

4.5
(1257)
Mon Village is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of Mon culture and cuisine. Nestled just beyond the wooden bridge, you'll find charming little eateries where you can savor traditional dishes like khanom jin—thin rice noodles served with a flavorful fish curry—and kaeng hang lay, a delightful roasted chicken dish paired with garlic and rice. The friendly shopkeepers make it easy to navigate the menu, even without English translations.
If in the vicinity a must visit, need to be down by Thailand 🇹🇭 longest wooden bridge at 6am, Monks visit every morning and the place is crowded. Some great shops to buy souvenirs.
Steve — Google review
A village deep in the hills. People visited usually to stay overnight and do iconic activity by dress like Mon people then give alms to the monk in morning.

What an amazing place to visit and experience. Fantastic walking down all the small streets and see the amazing houses and shops and just in general the way people live here. All Mon people are so friendly and welcoming. This is one of the best places I have ever been to in Thailand and I would recommend everyone to go experience this truly magical place

It's a must to visit if you travel to Sangklaburi in Kanjanaburi. Although it has changed a lot, it's still worth paying a visit. The scenic views of the iconic bridge itself and Mon village along with the traditional food and culture, are something to enjoy and cherish. If you are into photography, you need to do your research before getting there to know where and when are the right places and times to capture your photos.

Wat Wang Wiwekaram is a significant temple in Sangkhlaburi, serving as a spiritual center for the Mon people. The temple houses shrines and statues, including an elegant marble Buddha image called Luangpho Khao. It is also the residence of Luangpho Uttama, a highly revered monk among the Thais, Mons, Karen people, and Burmese in the region. The temple features impressive murals and represents Mon Thai-style architecture.
Fantastic temple to visit. A bit hard to reach by foot but definitely worth it. There’s a very complete collection of amazing photographs from the area throughout the years. I would recommend to go see this gallery from a life in rural Thailand.
Kasper H — Google review
If you are interested in Mon style architecture and the Mon people, then Wat Wang Wiwekaram is a great place to visit. It is a beautiful and peaceful temple that is full of history and culture. You can distinguish the Mon style from the Thai- or Ayuthaya style by comparing the shape, size, and decoration of the pagodas or stupas. The Mon pagodas tend to be more slender and taller than the Thai ones, and they often have a lotus-shaped finial at the top. The Mon pagodas also have more elaborate carvings and sculptures on their walls and niches, while the Thai pagodas are plain. This temple is the spiritual center of the Mon people in Thailand and is dedicated to Luang Pho Uttama, a revered monk who was born in Myanmar and died in 1983. The temple was built in 1953 by Luang Pho Uttama and a group of Karen and Mon immigrants. It is a large complex that includes a main Buddha image, a museum, and a library. Wat Wang Wiwekaram is a popular tourist destination and is especially busy during the annual Mon Festival, which is held in February. The temple is also a popular place for Thai people to come to pray and seek blessings from Luang Pho Uttama.

One of the highlights of Mon Community's Songkran Festival at Sangkhla Buri is using bamboo water spouts for pouring water on monks instead of pouring water on them directly. The traditional ceremony will happen on 17th April every year. I had a chance to be there 2 years in a row. Very impressive. #watwangwiwekaram #buddhakayapagoda #songkranfestival #montraditionalsongkranfestival #sangkhlaburi #thongphaphum #kanchanaburi

Complex of multiple temples close to each other. This is not Thai style so you can feel a little bit of Nepal in Thailand. Not the coolest thing I have ever seen, but it's close to Chedi Phutthakhaya. So if you are already close to the place, pay a visit also to this temple complex.

Nestled along the serene riverfront, Sam Prasob Resort is a tranquil haven that perfectly complements your Sangkhlaburi adventure. This charming resort boasts an open-air restaurant and a refreshing outdoor pool, making it an ideal spot to unwind. Guests can choose from various accommodations, including spacious hotel-style rooms, cozy bungalows, and unique stilted cabins perched on the hillside. Each room is designed for comfort with modern amenities like air conditioning, WiFi, and TVs.
A lovely hotel complex above the town. A large room (103) next to a nice swimming pool and gym. Has the most wonderful view of the bridge, lake and town. Room is comfortable; good AC and all the usual conveniences. It’s a short easy walk to the Mon Bridge. The monks (all 3 of them) appeared at 7am. The restaurant, which has a fantastic view, is excellent and good value. Breakfast is excellent too. Unusually for a modern Thai hotel we couldn’t book online from the UK; never any rooms available on Agoda etc. Booking direct requires the hassle of a credit transfer. We reserved by phone whilst in Thailand.

Good location with amenities. Great scenic view. 5 mins walk to Mon Bridge. Clean BUT very old room. Power trip a few times in the middle of the night. Bed is hard to sleep. Will not recommend and never wanna come back here again! :(

Couldn't think of any resort that could be more perfect trip for a Sangkhlaburi trip. The location of mountain view gave a dreamy point of view seeing a vibrant blue sky right from your balcony, while enjoying the rainy and fog in the early morning in a chilly temperature. Food and local restaurants are walkable with less than 500 meters walk or choose the option of enjoying restaurant within the resort. The night vibe is super beautiful with city lights which I chose to float in the swimming pool. Since this place located in the middle of nature, noted that insects are some factors you can hardly avoided.

Amazing hotel with amazing views overlooking the mountains and the Mon bridge. Everything is in walkable distance from this hotel. Nice clean spacious room with good working air con and good quality beds. The restaurant is also good and like the rooms with incredible views. Would recommend this place to all and I will definitely be back again
Kasper H — Google review
The hotel is in an excellent location between the Mon Bridge and Red Bridge. It is possibly the largest resort nearest the bridge with bungalows and hotel rooms, and a swimming pool. However, the rooms are looking a little dated. A bit of TLC wouldn't go a miss. For that reason and where the resort is- as in not Pattaya or Hua Hin - , I feel it was a bit expensive for the quality of accommodatiion. We had a discount too. The food was fine and nothing to write home about. I probably sound more negative than I should to be fair. Summary: An excellently placed resort with a few quirks and kinks that you may not consider value for money compared to other resorts you may have visited. I'll post a video on YouTube's Our Man In Bangkok channel soon. You can see the room and why I gave the review. A fur coat and no knickers sort of place.

The attraction of the Put Tha Kaya Pagoda in Sangkhla Buri revolves around the unique Songkran Festival, held annually on April 17th. Rather than directly pouring water on monks, bamboo water spouts are used for this traditional ceremony. After being canceled for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has finally made a comeback. Additionally, the temple itself is adorned with approximately six kilograms of gold, enhancing its beauty and allure.
It's Mon New Year in Sangkhlaburi. which is celebrated later than Thai Songkran. Time to make merits, pray for good health, wealth and happiness. Everyone men and women dressed looking handsomely or pretty. Highlights were monks walking back of devotees, and pouring of scent water onto monks. Scent water are channel via bamboo pipes onto the monks.

WOW! What a surreal experience, the gold temple can be seen from the lake, shimmering, majestic, towering and glowing! The temple has an array of gongs, many intricate decorations, tapestries and spectacular architecture. I also loved the photography flanking some of the corridors. Truly surreal and beautiful, also an interesting history as the founding Monk was revered for his ability to bring the various groups together, Mon, Karen and Thai. Can't wait to return! PS: This place isn't touristy at all (no Westerners) only Thai tourists.

A large and beautiful building, with lots of decoration and statues. Here it is clean and nice, in quiet surroundings. The area in front of the Stupa has many sales stalls, for both food and drink, souvenirs, clothes and other items. The car park is in front of the place, and has plenty of spaces.

One of the 3 major landmarks of Songkhlaburi perched high on the mountain. A gold magnet that demands to be seen close up. Close up it is even more impressive as you can appreciate its size and architecture. Inside there are number of buddha statues. The main one where most people pray and make offerings is on top of the main stairs.

Buddhakaya Chedi - a Buddhist stupa - is a replica of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. The stupa is made of white concrete and is surrounded by a lotus pond. It is a popular tourist destination and is said to be a place of great spiritual energy. Overall, Buddhakaya Chedi is a beautiful and spiritual place that is worth visiting. If you are looking for a place to relax and connect with your inner peace, then this is the place for you.

Don't miss an opportunity to take a picture of Buddha in motion, as it's definitely not something common. Buddha is outside of the main building. Underwater Temple

Historical landmark
The Underwater Temple, located in Khao Laem Lake, is a submerged Buddhist temple that was mostly flooded after the construction of a dam. During the summer season, visitors may have the opportunity to walk on the ground level of the temple when water levels are lower. Normally, only the flag on top of the temple is visible above water. Accessible via boat trips from Mon Bridge area, this unique site offers an intriguing experience for travelers.
If you go during summer season there is a chance that you can actually walk on the temple's ground level. Truly a Sunken Temple, definitely had the memory of that certain dungeon in World of Warcraft for sure... I visited not only during summer but also during the pandemic, so getting there was 400 baht instead of 500 as the guides needed to make a living. Note that 400 was for the entire raft/boat and not per person cost, but I was the only customer there at the time of this review.

On normal days you can see only the protruding flag on top of the temple above the water. You get typically there during a boat trip on Khao Laem lake with Mon Bridge area being the usual starting point.

Wat Somdet

Buddhist temple
Wat Somdet is a captivating destination nestled in Sangkhlaburi, often the first sight to greet visitors with its stunning golden reclining Buddha. This temple, part of the intriguing 3 Sunken Temples Boat Tour, offers a unique glimpse into history as it stands alongside other submerged temples like Srisuwan and Wat Wang Wiwekaram. While these ancient sites may be partially underwater during your visit, Wat Somdet remains accessible by boat and serves as a serene spot for reflection and prayer.
Worth a visit but only if you want to pray at the temple. Not much really here, just a stop on the boat tour. Good for some photos and taking in the peaceful nature of the place. There are a lot of steps to climb up there and it's not maintained well.

Highly recommend trying the Korean fried chicken and BBQ pork belly at this gem of a restaurant! My friend, who works in Sangkla Buri, insisted I give it a go, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere here is wonderfully cozy and welcoming, thanks to the warm hospitality of the owner. Not only is the food fantastic, but it won't break the bank. You'll be treated to generous portions that will keep you satisfied all day. The star of the show for me was the fried chicken and BBQ pork belly. They surpassed many of the places I've tried in Bangkok. The fried chicken had the perfect combination of crispy and juicy, and the sauce was flavorful without being overly sweet. If you find yourself in this town, don't miss out on this culinary delight!

Khao Laem National Park, covering about 1500 km2 around the Vajiralongkorn Dam, boasts scenic hiking trails and campsites. The park is home to over 260 wildlife species, including gibbons and deer. Visitors can hire long-tail boats to sail across the reservoir or return to Ban Wang Ka. Khao Laem Lake's water levels fluctuate throughout the year, revealing Saphan Mon Bridge and ancient Buddhist temples at the lake's bottom.
I love the serene atmosphere that this area provides. The calm water and gentle breeze have won us over. It was a bit of a drive to get here but the energy we got was unmatched. The area is looked after well. The camping ground is clean and not crowded at all.

We made a stop at Khao Laem National Park to check out Kratengjeng Waterfall. Due to the rain, we didn't venture far and only saw the immediate area. The campsite near the stream is available, but it's not as scenic or well-equipped as the one at Pom pi site.

We stopped to camp over night and were very happy. Very clean compared to other national parks. Right on the road so there was no travel time to get anywhere. Camped right on the river which was fun for playing in the cold water. It's only 5m wide and thigh deep at most where we were there so great for kids. Food and drinks available during daylight hours and really cheap for everything. Tickets get you into both parts of the park with the lake sunset view or the river part. 4 person family was 6USD for the night to camp with our tents. Rangers on site all night and very safe feeling here with lovely views

If you’re venturing into western Thailand and seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Khao Laem National Park in Kanchanaburi Province is a destination worth exploring. Established in 1987, this expansive park covers approximately 1,500 square kilometers and is part of the Western Forest Complex, a significant conservation area in the region. The park’s diverse landscapes include mixed deciduous and evergreen forests, limestone mountains, and the serene Khao Laem Reservoir. This variety of habitats supports a rich array of wildlife, such as Asiatic black bears, elephants, various deer species, and even tigers. Birdwatchers will also find the area rewarding, with numerous endemic species to observe. For those interested in outdoor activities, Khao Laem offers several options. Trekking routes provide opportunities to explore the forest and discover attractions like waterfalls and caves. Water-based activities, including rafting, canoeing, and kayaking, are available on the reservoir. One notable trekking destination is San Nok Wua, the highest peak in the park, offering panoramic views and a challenging hike for enthusiasts. The park is also rich in cultural sites. Nearby Sangkhlaburi is home to the Mon Bridge, Thailand’s longest wooden bridge, and the Wat Wang Wiwekaram temple. These sites reflect the area’s cultural diversity and are integral parts of the local community. Visitor Tips: • Best Time to Visit: The cooler months from November to January offer pleasant weather, making it ideal for trekking and other outdoor activities. • Getting There: The park is accessible via Highway 323, approximately 190 km from Kanchanaburi. • Accommodation: Options range from camping sites within the park to local guesthouses in nearby towns. • Guides: Hiring a local guide can enhance your experience, especially for treks to remote areas. Khao Laem National Park offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, providing a tranquil alternative to more frequented tourist spots. Whether you’re an avid trekker, a wildlife enthusiast, or someone seeking cultural insights, this park has something to offer.

One of my favorite National Parks in Thailand. Great campsites and nice lake ti watch the sunset. There is no need to bring a tent and other camping gear, the National Park has everything for rent. The fee is more expensive for foreigners compared to Thais which I don't normally agree with this rule but I think for this National Park it is totally worth it. They also have restaurant inside the park, real authentic thai food and very hot (spicy).

Amazon countryside with waterfalls and nature roads without any signs . You can see snakes even on the roads and fishing village floating on the river and much more nature experiences if you step off you bike and just go to discover yourself and the area. Oh yes and sometime people give you a ride when you hitchhiking but the other day you must give it back to someone to keep the balance!

Pom Pi View Point is a serene spot located in a national park, offering stunning sunset views over a tranquil lake. The area is popular for fishing, sailing, and birdwatching. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and warm hospitality from the friendly staff at the reception. The wooden huts add to the charm of the place, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and those who appreciate breathtaking natural beauty. Additionally, it's a great place for camping and relaxation amidst picturesque surroundings.
This place is considered one of the best view of sunset in the western part of Thailand. A great place to camp. Clean and well maintained camping areas, restrooms and washrooms. Faucets and trash bins available near by the camping site. Weekends and holidays are quickly filled the place up. We got there early to get the best spot which is also near the restroom. There's also security guard during the night. Very safe and beautiful place to visit.

The Pomphee Viewpoint and Campsite is a beautiful spot. The restaurant serves great food for only 220 baht. You'll find lots of birds here, and the breeze is cool and refreshing. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. You have to park your car a good distance from the campsite. If you're camping, you'll need to use a trolley at the entrance to bring in your gear. This makes it a bit of a challenge for campers, and it's probably not a good option if you have a lot of equipment. While it might not be the best choice for camping, the chalets are a great option if you just want to visit the scenic spot and the nearby Mon Bridge. It's also worth noting they have a few spots for motorhomes or car camping. Overall, it's definitely worth a visit for the stunning views and serene atmosphere.

Located in a national park. Great place for a break. The views are gorgeous, the wooden huts are cute. They offer food but it's mostly simple dishes pre cooked these days and frankly they are not very good. Still worth the time and money to get in the park. Entry to the park is 40 thb for Thai and much more for foreigners (I think 200). With showing a Thai drivers license we got away with 60 thb which is worth it. Not sure I would be willing to pay much more though. As a side note. On weekends it can get busy to the point where it is just too full with people and looses a lot of it's charge. Also they seem to offer comping options which I could not figure out where those are located but that could be fun in this elevated location with the views over the lake and the fresh cool breeze that comes from the water around.

Three Pagodas Pass is a historic mountain pass located on the Myanmar-Thai border in Sangkhla Buri. It is known for its three Buddhist stupas and offers tourists the opportunity to obtain a one-day visa to enter Burma. The area is rich in history, with ties to Thailand, Myanmar, and Japan's construction of the railroad during WWII. While the location itself may not be very inspiring, there are some restaurants and coffee shops in the small town nearby.

The Three Pagoda Pass is a land border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar and is named after the three pagodas that are located on the Thai side of the border. The Three Pagoda Pass has been an important trade route for centuries. It was used by the ancient Khmer Empire, and later by the Burmese and Thai kingdoms. These pagodas are said to have been built in the 11th century by King Anawratha of Pagan. The Three Pagoda Pass is a popular tourist destination, however, the border crossing is not open to foreigners. The site is good for a nice stroll. Very close is a nice market and various options for a decent cup of coffee.

This place was great! It is full of history and mystery. I loved learning about the history of Thailand, Myanmar, and even Japan constructing its railroad thru Thailand and Burma back in WWII. So they allowed me to go in and take pictures and then let me out. The distance is almost 2 kilometers. The road is quite scary haha. Feel the refreshing atmosphere of nature.
