Museum
Specialty Museums
Museo Confetti Pelino, located just outside Sulmona, is a celebration of the history and production of the town's famous confetti. It is home to the oldest confetti company in Sulmona. Visitors can tour the facility and explore its museum, which offers insight into how the Pelino company started. The large retail store on-site provides various options for purchasing confetti, making it a great place to find unique gifts.
It’s our 2nd time in Sulmona to get Confetti and our 1st time visiting the museum. The museum is lovely, small and you can see it in less than 30 minutes. There’s a short video at the end that tells the story of confetti and it’s worth watching. At the end of the visit, there’s a shop and even though some of the shops in town are more lively, it still has this old-fashioned, vintage shop air and ambience that I so love about European shops in general. The ladies at the shop will let you try the different flavors, all you have to do is ask. Prices are reasonable and it’s a great gift idea for those who come from overseas and want to gift people back home. Pellino confetti are soft and delicious. It’s one of my favorite desserts in Italy

Very traditional. Every Italian marriage is usually gifted with one of these candied almond treats. Old factory which hasn't changed the way they create these treats and gifts, keeping the tradition alive.

Fabulous! Heard about it on Stanley Tucci's Disney+ show when it featured as part of his tour of Abruzzo and it did not disappoint. Delightful and helpful staff, amazing olde worlde shop and the most incredible array of confetti, very good prices too.

Annunziata is a must-visit attraction in Sulmona, Italy. The Church of Santissima Annunziata boasts a stunning baroque interior and an impressive dome. Nearby, the Palazzo Annunziata stands out with its ornate carvings and serves as the Civic Museum today. Visitors can also explore the beautiful church of San Francesca della Scarpa and experience the famous Festival of the Running Madonna, which draws thousands of visitors each Easter.
An Absolutely Beautiful Church

The complex dates back to the 14th century, initially serving as a hospital. Over time, it evolved to include a church, orphanage, and a confraternity dedicated to the Annunciation. The complex has undergone various transformations and expansions throughout the centuries, reflecting different architectural styles to include elements of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The complex was damaged by earthquakes, most significantly in 1706.

Porta Napoli is a stunning historical gateway that marks the entrance to Sulmona's charming city center. Originally part of a defensive wall with seven gates, it was constructed in the 14th century during a time when the city needed to expand due to population growth. This impressive structure not only serves as an architectural marvel but also as a cultural landmark, surrounded by rich monastic history and references to Pope Celestino V, one of Sulmona’s notable figures.
On the day of the celebration of the Immaculate Conception, a large wooden set of Joseph, Mary and the infant Jesus was set in the Porta Napoli. Spectacular.

Villa Comunale is a serene escape from the bustling crowds, featuring two expansive ponds with volcanic tuff fountains and charming tree-lined boulevards where locals leisurely pass the time. This tranquil park, built outside the city's original Medieval walls, is surrounded by elegant early 20th-century Liberty-style houses and offers a pleasant stroll down to the Cathedral of San Panfilo. Visitors can enjoy picturesque views, shaded resting spots, and colorful displays in spring and fall.
The Villa is a beautiful park and a great place to walk (and walk your dog). Fall and spring are very colorful.

Located outside the historic center of Sulmona, Italy, the Cathedral of San Panfilo is a popular attraction. Dedicated to the patron saint of Sulmona, it houses relics that are carried in procession every year on April 28th. The cathedral's architecture is a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles dating back to the 11th century. It features a crypt from the eighth century and has been influenced by Baroque and Renaissance styles over time.
San Panfilo Cathedral is a complicated mix or Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architecture (being result of two catastrophe earthquakes of 1456 and 1706). I recommend to look at Romanesque apses, Gothic portal, two medieval tombs and wonderful crypt
Sibeaster — Google review
Coming from the railway station it should be your first stop. It is a roman church with a crypt from the eight century. During the years the church has got baroque and renaissance influence. There is a lot to see and I spent there more than an hour to enjoy all the details. Don’t mis the 14 th century Crucifixion fresco, the charming Madonna of the furnaces (11th century), Chapel of S. Panfilo (who saved the city from the plague), the organ at the entrance and the crypt with the fine marble entrance.

A rich and nicely decorated Vatican Church. I did appriciate the marbel and granit works. Aswell the writings on the inner chapel which every chriatian should follow, expecially the second one which states "Da qui si esce per amare il prossimo." Something that the same Vatican should learn to follow.

Morsi Di Gusto Panino a km nome e cognome is an exceptional sandwich shop that offers delectable sandwiches made with fresh ingredients and delightful flavor combinations. The staff is amiable, and the location in the historical town centre allows for outdoor dining. Moreover, there is no need to go through the trouble of translating an Italian menu as there is an English menu conveniently placed on the wall inside the bistro.
We enjoyed lovely vegan sandwiches from this cute shop. The person who prepared our sandwiches took great care in putting together all the super fresh ingredients and making sure the fillings were all well distributed. The sandwich was delicious - especially enjoyed the spicy mustard sauce. There are a few counter seats inside and benches outside. Prices are very reasonable.

One of the most delicious sandwiches I’ve ever tried, fresh ingredients and really good combinations of flavors. Friendly staff and great location, you can eat it outside in the historical town centre. Btw, if you are looking for an english menu, there is no need to take a picture of the Italian one and translate with Google like we did, when you enter the bistro, just turn around and there is an English menu on the wall behind you. :) We highly recommend to try the sandwiches and will definitely come back if we visit Sulmona in the future. 5/5 ⭐️🥪

I was touring from Canada and me and my friends decided to stop at this fine sandwich establishment. This was the best sandwich I ever had in my life. For only 5€, you can get a whole footlong sandwich loaded with meat. Upon finishing my sandwich, I was left with a sense of awe, and my mouth felt as if it was experiencing the best meal ever. The staff were also very helpful and spoke english. Anyone who is looking for an amazing lunch or dinner, maybe even breakfast would enjoy this very much.

This place is amazing. I was overwhelmed by the number of options available, but luckily the nice lady behind the counter gave her recommendation, and oh man, she did recommend. In most cases I am cautious with prosciuto crudo, but it was somehow easy to bite into, and the lemon-infused olive oil with the combination of Parmeggiano Reggiano, excellent. Really. Thank you! P.s. the music was great (some alter-metal-rock. Nice one :D ).

I will say that I am a bit bias in liking this pizzeria. I was one of the English teachers that had recently been teaching in schools in Sulmona, and on our first day teaching, the owner's daughter (if I am correct in my limited understanding of Italian) asked me and my classmates for our coffee order to welcome us to Sulmona, and to teaching her and class. When we tried to decline, she insisted on it! It made us feel so welcomed and really was one of the highlights of our experience there. We made a point to go there during our breaks in the days that followed. The coffee was very well priced, and the pizza was wonderful. While the tea was too expensive for my liking, (€3.50), I would factor that to it being a predominately coffee drinking country, instead of tea drinking one. My classmates were able to enjoy their espresso for just over €1.00. While I won't say the owners daughter's name, this message is to her: Thank you so much for welcoming us to your town, and school, and for you and your classmates being wonderful students.
