The Cava Museo Fantiscritti is an open-air museum located in Carrara's renowned marble quarries. It showcases a collection of excavating tools and sculptures from the local history, with guided tours available for visitors at an additional cost. The cave itself is incredibly large and offers a one-hour trip, with the option to bring your car for an adventurous drive through the long tunnel. However, be prepared for a car wash afterwards as it can get quite dusty.
An incredible place and well worth the visit.

These mountains are impressive. The amount of marble here is huge. The tour guide was pretty good and made a great presentation The tour itself is very limited and the jeeps are a bit uncomfortable for those riding in the back.
Rhadames T — Google review
This place is amazing. The fact they have been mining here since before the Roman Era is min blowing. The whole process of mining, old and new, is just amazing. A real must see.
Jedaiah H — Google review
Very nice tour through the marble cave! The little busride into the cave is quite cool. There is plenty to see and learn. Our tourguide was really funny and did know quite much. Even for the children - which do not speak English or Italian - it was great fun! Sidenote is to keep eye on the tourguide at the end of the tour. We still needed to pay our visit at the end. As I was doing just that the buss and tourguide where already gone and we were a little puzzled how to get out. 😉

With the taxi from carrara-avenza station to here, 50Euro one-way (may vary). There are 2 different kind of tours ; one tour inside the cave, the other one go onto the mountain. You have to book and pay separately.
Neni K — Google review
Thursday/October When We arrived A woman (i think her name was Katharina?) drove out of the cave. We approached her and asked for the next jeeptour, but the last tour left 5 minutes before and she was about to go home. But then she did a whole tour just for us 2! So kind! It was so impressive to be inside of a mountain in a cave of that size! She even drove us through the mountain-Tunnel to the other side to the office, so we could pay by card, as we did not have enough cash at hand! So bring cash! The quarry itself is very beautiful and you can still see men working hard inside (until 15:00 every day). They will explain the machinery as well. You get to wear a helmet(cool!), get the chance for some souvenirs and they take some pictures (free!) of you. We were very impressed by the industry and the machinery and the size of everything, it’s massive! It’s a combination of a working place and a tourist attraction. Marble is just a beautiful material. Very happy we got the chance to visit this! 15€/p.P

This museum was a perfect way to explain the history of marble mining to our daughter. The owners are passionate about the museum and it was created by their grandfather to honor all the ancestors who dedicated their lives to this work. The small museum shop was great for souvenirs. The owner even gave our daughter a piece of marble!

Super experience. We had a very good English speaking guide. She explained everything very well. Also nice to drive into the cave with your own car (instead of their busses, it changed cause of corona, but to my opinion it has to stay like that! It's pretty cool). Impressive to see how marble is cut and where all that marble in the world is coming from for ages already).

Nestled in the picturesque Apuan Alps, Colonnata is a charming village renowned for its culinary gem, Mafalda Lardo di Colonnata IGP. This exquisite lard is crafted using traditional methods that date back centuries, where layers of pork fat are seasoned with sea salt and a blend of aromatic herbs and spices. The unique marble from the region plays a crucial role in this aging process, which lasts from September to May. The result?
Very friendly owner. Best lardo. A little bit more expensive but ask for a discount. Best quality.

Once you have made it up here to this little village, you will most likely stumble over Mafaldo. You can get a fine selection of local food here. Stuff to eat and to carry away. Ask for packaging as a gift - it is free. Try the Lardo di Colonato - nice taste and lots of calories as you would need it working in the marmor quarries.

(Translated by Google) Only the Palace deserves to be visited, then the exhibition on the Italian painters of the Belle Epoque is truly beautiful. Diolaiuti, Torrigiani, Torselli, Bartolozzi, Cocchini and Capecchi did not come because they had to wait for Diolaiuti's cousin's broadcast on channel 50. Priami was with a Sergione, fortunately Sara appreciated the exhibition. (Translated by Google) Nor will I talk in the next few days... in the meantime I'll upload some images of a place that's new to me. I discover that Palazzo Cucchiari, located in Carrara, is home to the Giorgio Conti Foundation and, among other things, is the venue for exhibitions of undoubted value. Just take a look at the current exhibition on the programme, which ends on 10/27, with the theme of the "Belle Époque". The "names" present are among the most prestigious of the Tuscan and national 20th century such as Lega; Gentlemen; Factors; Boldini; Ghini; De Nittis; Lomellini; Dance; Fountain; Simi and Pellizza da Volpedo (the one from the "Fourth Estate") ... just to name the best known even to those who, like me, have a culture based exclusively on curiosity. I have not uploaded photos of the works of art present (this can be done with only three exceptions where it is not possible), if not generic, to give space to the structure, an example of linearity, simple but rigorous, in vogue at the end of the 19th century to satisfy the emerging bourgeois class. The Palace, which takes its name from the family who commissioned it, the Cucchiari family, was built in 1891 by the engineer Leandro Caselli. Today we see it, well cared for, after a careful restoration. Kind staff. I really think I'll be back in '25... for the next season with a new exhibition.

(Translated by Google) Palazzo Cucchiari is located in Carrara. The building, renovated in a refined way and respecting the elegant period finishes, is the ideal context for exhibiting works of art. In fact, the route is limited (two floors) and allows you not to distract your attention from the colors of the works and the beautiful rooms that host them. The "Belle Epoque" is well organised, well explained by the audio guides that are given to you at the entrance. The ticket has a discount for age, coop members etc. The staff is very kind. Not to be overlooked is the condition of the bathrooms, a pleasure for the eyes, the beauty of the marble and, why not, the impeccable cleanliness. Not to be missed. The Duomo di Sant'Andrea in Carrara, located in northern Tuscany, is a historic cathedral that dates back to the 11th century. It was completed over three centuries later and is adorned with marble from the famous quarries of Carrara. The architectural style of the building combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, with a stunning facade featuring alternating bands of white and dark marble.

(Translated by Google) Four stars for its ease of access and the view of the northern Tuscan coast, beyond the islands on clear days. Otherwise, everywhere you turn, you see a mountain disfigured by the excavation of the marble quarries, which made Carrara famous worldwide, bringing wealth and fortune to a select few, and providing employment to generations of families. The political management of the marble from the quarries is shameful to say the least: the municipalities of Massa Carrara and the Lucca area have always received "crumbs" compared to the enormous profits derived from extraction. Even the concession for the beach resorts is similar, but with one major difference: the beach resort doesn't sell the sand and alter the landscape, but is its custodian and does everything to beautify the coastline, removing almost everything in September. The concession holder for the quarries REMOVES pieces of the mountains FOREVER. The clearing in fact overlooks the marble quarries to the west and the noises coming from the machinery polluted the atmosphere a lot, fortunately towards late afternoon they stopped. In addition, seeing the mountains dug and ruined for the marble is a scary sight... They should close all the quarries. Anyway, fantastic place in general. (Original) Luogo incredible. Pizzeria Delfino "Antico Forno" di Franchi Damiano, a delightful eatery specializing in pizza, offers a delectable and appetizing culinary experience. This charming establishment prides itself on serving mouthwatering Italian cuisine with an emphasis on traditional wood-fired oven cooking techniques. The menu boasts an extensive selection of flavorsome pizzas, each crafted with the finest ingredients to create a burst of exquisite taste.
Must visit. The staff is very kind, they introduced us to the yummy Farrara (Italian chickpea pancake very special to Carrara town) . And the pizza was delicious. We visited every day we were in Carrara. 🍕😍

(Translated by Google) Do you want to enjoy an excellent pizza or a delicious focaccia, in the splendid setting of Carrara? Then the Delfino pizzeria is for you. There are outdoor tables in the square, in front of the beautiful Animosi theater. Very kind and very fast people. The focaccias are packed!! I love when pizzas and focaccias are bursting with delicious ingredients! There is no table service but there are no problems, the seats are right across the street. I got the pizzas personally, but home delivery is also available. Thank you very much they were very good. We will be back 101% thank you!!! Grazie tante erano buonissime. Torneremo al 101% grazie!!!

(Translated by Google) Very good pizza both cooked in a wood fire and with an electric oven, very professional staff courteous, booking recommended, they also deliver to your home. The only flaw is that the tables for eating on site can only be reached by crossing a busy road and there is no table service.

(Translated by Google) Takeaway pizzeria which in my opinion produces some of the best pizzas in Carrara! The pizzas are always generously garnished and the cooking is always top notch! The menu offers a vast selection of pizzas which nicely bear the names of the towns and villages of Carrara. It does home service. In summer (at least 2023) it is possible to enjoy the pizzas also at some outdoor tables located in Piazza De Andrè. Only one flaw 🤣: Gragnana pizza is missing 🤣🤣! Fa servizio a domicilio.

(Translated by Google) Margherita pizza and focaccia are really good. They digest very well although I usually have difficulty. The pizza with potatoes was good but way too much pepper for my taste. If there is anything left over, everything is still exceptionally good the next day. Fast and courteous service. Excellent prices. I recommend it to everyone! (Original) Pizza margherita e focaccia veramente molto buone. Servizio veloce e cortese. Prezzi ottimi. Lo consiglio a tutti!

We were recommended this restaurant by the owner by another one. We trusted the recommendation and were not disappointed. Service was great, and white-truffle tasting menue was outstanding.
