The Cathedral of Gela, also known as the Mother Church, is a centuries-old religious site that has undergone meticulous restoration. It houses the revered painting of Madonna D'Alemanna, the town's patron saint. The church is a focal point during the celebration of her feast day on September 8th, marked by the colorful Palio dell'Alemanna procession.

Historical landmark
Ex Granai del Palazzo Ducale is a historic site that once served as the castle granaries. Today, it has been repurposed into an exhibition hall where visitors can explore special exhibits and enjoy great views of the surrounding area. The palace also hosts various events, making it a must-see attraction in the area. Additionally, nearby Palazzo Pignatelli houses town hall offices and offers its own unique exhibits for visitors to enjoy.

(Translated by Google) These buildings, miraculously still standing, are a true jewel in the heart of the historic center of Gela. These are the granaries of a ducal complex, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, around the central courtyard of what was the Terranova di Sicilia Castle, which has unfortunately been replaced by a condominium since the 1960s. What remains, the granaries, were used in the 2000s as a venue for exhibitions and cultural events, although the internal area was left in disrepair where, in the 1990s, due to excavations for the construction of a public car park, vestiges of ancient structures from various eras and finds dating back to the medieval, archaic and classical periods have been found. It is a real shame, however, that in 2024 it is still in a state of total abandonment and there is no mention whatsoever of a redevelopment of the structure and the internal and surrounding areas. For its historical, artistic and cultural importance it deserves 5 stars, but I am forced to leave only 1 due to the total neglect in which art and history are forced to survive in this city.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Carmine in Gela, which overlooks Piazza Roma in front, is dedicated to the Madonna del Monte Carmelo and probably dates back to the 16th century. It was built together with the adjacent convent, by the PP. Carmelites. It has a single nave with a postero-lateral bell tower, ten side windows, on whose glass there is a decorated cross and eight chapels with altars. The bell tower has a spire covered with majolica tiles. Originally there was the old domed bell tower damaged in the last war. The architecture of the church is simple in style, with stucco capitals. On the floor of the church, after the entrance, there is a box with the writing "CAN.ROSARIO DAMAGGIO DIED IN 1938". On the ceiling of the nave there are two panels with stucco decorations and a canvas depicting the scene of the "Suppressed Storm". On the right side we find a marble stoup from 1571, with a basin on the edge of which the Carmelite coat of arms is depicted. In the interior of the religious building there are several painted altarpieces from the 1700s. On the right side: the paintings "the Carmelite Saints and "San Giuseppe" and the statues of San Rocco and the Madonna del Carmine. Between the third and fourth chapel, a wooden pulpit created by Baldassare Accomando, a local artist. On the left side: the paintings "Martyrdom of San Lorenzo" and "The Annunziata" and then the heart of Jesus statue. A particular painting on wood, on a gold background, of the Crucifixion (perhaps the most valuable work of art in the church), depicts Christ on the cross, the Madonna and Saint John. This board was used to close the case of the paper mache Crucifix. Then there is a 1917 organ with 9 registers and finally a 15th century papier-mâché statue of the Crucifix, in the central chapel. Fu edificata assieme all’attiguo convento, dai PP. Carmelitani.

I paid 10 euros for the pizza and 1.80 euros for the calzone. Thin, light dough and good quality ingredients for both. Successful leavening as can be seen from the photo of the slice in section. Positive rating, despite some burns on the edge. The thermal box (one of the strong points of this place) is not provided for family pizzas. I don't give the fourth star because the guys who run it, although it cannot be said that they are not polite, can still improve by taking greater care of the welcome and communication with the customer. Mille Grazie

(Translated by Google) Delicious and home-cooked food. Excellent prices, Generous dishes, Under one star because they charge 1.5 euros for table service since they serve in plastic glasses and plates, but I still recommend them, it is good food. (Translated by Google) The managers are always quite pissed off, and I have witnessed several times an unkind treatment towards the employee on duty. Product quality has dropped over time. We are not there.

"Miseria e Nobiltà" is a Sicilian restaurant known for its top-notch service, pleasant ambiance, and use of exclusively regional ingredients. Instead of the typical a la carte ordering system, the restaurant offers a uniform and variable menu featuring heavenly Sicilian starters. The main course includes delicious beef steak. Visitors have praised the establishment for its satisfying portion sizes and high-quality red wine selection.
My wife and I stopped here for our first Sicilian dinner on our honeymoon and we were not disappointed! There did not appear to be a menu, but we were offered some antipasti to share, beef carpaccio and bread to start with. There was a varied selection of items that were all tasty and well prepared; the carpaccio was especially delicious. For our main course we were offered a selection of grilled beef, veal and pork; this was dressed with oil, oregano and lemon, perfectly seasoned with salt and served with bread. This was all meltingly soft and delicious. Dessert was a generous helping of lemon sorbet, along with a pistachio and ricotta cannoli, which rounded the meal off perfectly. We ate well and drank a glass each of local red wine (not too acidic, unoaked, with an interesting pepperyness and herbal tones). We also shared a litre bottle of Coca-Cola. The service was an exemplar of good hospitality (we were made to feel very welcome) and we would highly recommend anyone visit who is after an authentic experience (the restaurant appeared to be full of locals). The conto came to 65€, which felt like a bargain!

OMG, best steak I've ever had! Staff was friendly and accommodating even though I don't speak Italian. Reasonable prices, good wine and generous portions! I think I found my dinner place for my entire vacation. Make sure you save room for the cannoli and lemon sorbet!

there was no menu a la carte for dinner. They offered a closed dinner of antipasti and some grilled meat for 30€ per person. We only wanted to order appetizers but could not choose. We were served some lukeworm antipasti for 22€ per person which seemed expensive. I imagine the grilled meat must be good, but beware of the closed menu.

Could not find the place which is a hidden gem. The owner is an ex-butcher who knows his meat! Take what is available, forget about the menus. Excellent stay and divine meat and antipasti. Will return in my next visit.
