Scenic Railroads
Aberystwyth Cliff Railway is a historic funicular railway that has been operating since 1896, making it the longest electric cliff railway in the UK. It offers breathtaking views of up to 26 mountain peaks on a clear day as it transports passengers nearly eight hundred feet up a stunning cliff-face. At the summit, visitors can enjoy a gift shop, cafe, and play area.
This was amazing! What a marvelous day I've had in Aberystwyth today and I've taken some outstanding photos from the cab of the bay! Prices were cheap for a family of three and we all had room to stay and take photos and the trail railway was not to fast but not to slow! 10/10 from me!

It was also cool that our cats were allowed to ride along. The staff is very nice, unlike some passengers who have no manners and rush up to the cats and want to pet them. You could ask beforehand. The café at the top is also great, but the view is amazing. It's definitely worth it. Finding a parking space is difficult, so it's best to go there after 3 p.m.

It was nice to take time-tested funicular railway for the experience of riding the Victorian and 2nd longest funicular railway in The British Isles. The views from the top looking out to sea and over Aberystwyth were stunning. We didn't use any of the amenities at the summit but there are things available, best to check out the website for full details. It was a pleasant experience and wasn't expensive at all. Dogs also welcome to ride just for a couple of pounds extra. A must for those who enjoy photography too.

Visited on Thursday, 04th September 2025, solo trip for me after a ride on the Vale of Rheidol Railway, I walked across town to the Cliff Railway. Didn't appear to be a timetable, but once I paid and the car was full, we set off. I've been on the equivalent railways at Hastings and Lynmouth, and this one has a more European design in terms of the car, in that you have steps inside, so a bit more intimidating if heights ain't your thing IMO. Quite a long journey for one of these ride types, and very slow with the final part up the cliff being very steep. Not much to see at the top, but the views are lovely and you have access to walks etc. Journey down was more enjoyable view-wise, so get near the front on the way down if you can.
Jeffrey S — Google review
Great place to visit for a couple of hours, fantastic views, there's a few things to do on the top like crazy golf or just a walk about...there's also a cafe/bar which is reasonably priced with lots of seating inside or outside. Personally I didn't like travelling on the Tram/train to the top or back down to me the whole thing is defying gravity....if you don't like heights give it a miss lol.
Paul W — Google review
The spectacular views from the top of the cliffs are well worth the £8.50 return trip. I can't believe that living in Wales for God knows how many years, I have not visited this attraction before!! Very enjoyable. No need to book in advance. They have a small car park for about 7 cars. Failing that, there is the North Road car park which is about a 6 min short walk away.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway is an absolute gem and well worth a visit! The climb itself is rather short but extremely steep, so the railway is both a scenic and practical way to the top. It’s also incredibly dog friendly — from the beach at the bottom all the way up to the summit. Our bullmastiff, Casper, was welcomed with open arms everywhere we went. At the café on the top, the staff brought him a bowl of iced water without me even asking — a big PLUS in my book! They also offer doggy ice cream, which is such a thoughtful touch, alongside people’s ice cream that’s creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The staff were fantastic — genuinely friendly, kind, and clearly fond of dogs. It made the whole experience that much warmer. Once at the top, the view is stunning and stretches far over the bay and surrounding countryside — a perfect spot for photos. There’s plenty to do as well: mini golf outside, ten-pin bowling inside, and the fascinating camera obscura (housed in the same building as the gift shop). A visit here offers a mix of relaxation, activities, and spectacular scenery. Highly recommended for dog owners, families, and anyone wanting a memorable Aberystwyth experience!

Constitution Hill in Aberystwyth—and what a perfect follow-up it was! I rode the Cliff Railway, the longest electric funicular in Britain, which gently pulled us up the steep hillside with stunning views of Cardigan Bay unfolding behind. It’s such a peaceful, vintage ride—slow enough to enjoy every moment, with the sea breeze and the sound of seagulls in the background.

Inn
The Glengower is a charming Victorian building located at the end of the promenade in Aberystwyth. It offers classic seaside rooms, many with sea views, and retains original features from its past as two old seafront villas. The welcoming atmosphere includes an open fire and rustic furniture, with large bay windows overlooking the sea. The family-friendly waterfront pub serves standard British fare and local ales, creating a chilled-out ambience for visitors to enjoy.
We had such a lovely night's stay at the Glengower hotel last week. Everything was perfect. The food was delicious and I had a Greek salad for the first time ever, which was amazing! The bed was very comfortable and we had the lovely sound of the waves lapping the shore all night, which was nice and comforting. The staff were attentive and polite. The rooms and the whole hotel was freshly decorated and spotlessly clean. We would highly recommend the Glengower for a stay.

Great service and excellent location. We ordered pork with crackling which did not appear on the plate. The pork we believe had previously been frozen as it had that frozen taste on it. Probably from a previous serving and definitely not fresh. The vegetables were fine with adequate roasties and boiled. These were accompanied by red cabbage and a few carrots and broccoli. Must admit we’ve had much better elsewhere and far cheaper

Went here for food. It was really busy but the staff were great and got us seated in the bar area without issue. I opted for the burger and it was superb. Well cooked and very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly and the bar has a great range of drinks available. I have stayed here before and would again, unfortunately on this visit I ended up staying elsewhere which simply wasn’t up to a cut of the Glengower. Easy to recommend.

I could not be happier with my stay in the glengower hotel, Aberystwyth. The double room was spacious with a fantastic view overlooking the sea. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The breakfast next morning was simply delicious. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stay in this delightful seaside town.

Nice room, small but adequate. Comfortable bed, with nice linen. Sea view, which was lovely. Breakfast was good, plenty of it. Unfortunately no lift, and I was on 3rd floor, so lots of stairs. No telephone in room to reception. Would I stay again? ...Possibly.

I wasn't a fan of the vapid student parti pub of the 90s so nobody is more surprised than myself to be giving the old Glen a rave review but now we've both matured, one can't deny the appeal of its latest incarnation. Beautifully appointed and comfortable rooms with well chosen wall art, many with sea views, and an excellent restaurant and bar area downstairs for relaxed dining and drinks. The staff are great, everyone who served us here was pleasant and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Downsides: it's an old building that will never meet modern accessibility standards, so expect stairs all over. And you'll have to be quick or lucky to get a bench out front when it's fine.

My family and I did a two week vacation in the uk and decided to do a roadtrip from London to Edinburgh and back. This was one of our stops. The places in Wales have quite the tongue twister of names that you find yourself almost having an aneurysm trying to recall especially the ones you’ve been to. But, that said, it was quite an adventure for us and the Glengower stood out as one of the best stops we made. The location was great and we had two sea view rooms which were quite cozy. The staff were very helpful and professional about everything. Definitely highly recommended!

Fantastic pub, family and dog friendly. We went for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed. The children's menu is great with a good variety of popular meals. Great price and atmosphere. Very close to Constitution Hill, we enjoyed a walk over to The Glengower from Clarach Bay and took advantage of the Cliff Railway going up, on the way back.

Always good food here and service was top notch! We had the tortillas to start and there's are incredible. The Ragu for main was out of this world with plenty of it. Honeycomb cheesecake for dessert was also very good. Can highly recommend the elderflower mojito too!

Dropped in for lunch without a reservation on a Saturday, table for two seated straight away. I would probably recommend booking if you want a guaranteed table. Food is fine but I would say not worth the asking price,I enjoyed the minute steak but £24 worth I'll let you make your own mind up from the picture. Next time we are in town we will probably try somewhere different.

Visited on Wednesday, 03rd September 2025, for the second time, but first in the evening. Located on the seafront as a location, it can't be bettered. We didn't book a table, and the only one left was not in the main seating area, so we couldn't enjoy the lovely views from the rotunda-style windows. As it was, the menu is quite limited, but it is more of a bar/café, so that's fine. It's a bit pricey, but it had some stunning Pizza. Limited alcohol and none on draft, unfortunately. Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere.

Beach
Aberystwyth Beach is located in the charming coastal town of Aberystwyth, Wales. The town has a rich history dating back centuries and offers engaging activities and attractions for history enthusiasts and curious travelers. Despite its small size, with only around 10,000 permanent residents, Aberystwyth boasts intriguing past and prominent attractions. The beach itself is a mix of sand and pebbles, offering a picturesque setting with a long pier in the distance.
It was amazing. The day we went it was sunny and the weather was warm but abit chilly when the clouds came. The sea wasn't so choppy it was calm and relaxing to watch.

Lovely little beach, has beautiful cliff views and not busy, which is always a bonus. We climbed to opposite cliff from the cliff trams and the view was breathtaking! There is paid public toilet and places on the promenade to grab coffee and ice cream and watch the world go by. Would love to go back.

Absolutely gorgeous beach! Unfortunately ruined by people not following rules about certain areas being “no dogs allowed on the beach” as I was sat on the beach, quite a large dog who was off the lead ran upto myself and my friend and jumped onto us and scratched us. Causing my friend to drop boiling hot coffee all over her legs and get burns on her legs. The owner didn’t seem to care and took her sweet time to walk over and collect her dog and mumbled sorry as she walked away saying he’s a bit hyper. No he he’s not just hyper he just attacked us for gods sake. KEEP DOGS ON LEADS IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO GO BACK TO YOU WHEN YOU CALL THEIR NAME! If you aren’t going to follow the rules, make sure your dog actually listens to you and is trained.

I have visited many beaches. But so far the most beautiful beach. If you visit the UK it's a must to visit this beach especially during the summer. The water is cold and clear. The beach is clean and there are lots of restaurants around to get good food. There are good affordable shops to buy kids toys and stationary items near the beach.

Guests can expect a delightful culinary journey in a charming atmosphere with great music and friendly staff. The menu includes staples like kebabs and veggies alongside an array of spirits and wine.
What an amazing job they've done to this old pub! Really nice and clean with a great atmosphere too. Food was VERY good and at great prices. The buttermilk chicken and belly pork were top notch. Salads are delicious and great value if you order 4 of them. Will be back for sure.

Loved this cafe! Super friendly staff! Dog friendly inside/downstairs. Great menu and brilliant cake options. Was very popular with locals for take away coffees. Coffee was great! I had the eggs and avocado, delicious! Wish I'd sampled their small lemon meringues now, will have to return.

Wonderful discovery in the middle of tourist madness places. We were lucky to get a large table without calling in. The starter combination place good, the pork belly was fabulous. As was everything else on the table. The only damper was the two cakes darts we had. Extremely sweet, unnecessarily. But so good looking!!!!

A delightful Mediterranean restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and tasteful background music. The décor is beautifully done, creating a warm and inviting setting. The food is absolutely delicious, and the staff are genuinely welcoming, particularly towards children. A perfect spot for families as well as friends to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Lots of tasty lunch options. The tendency is towards vegetarian dishes and salads with a meat and fish option. Is you choose a main bite, you can add two salads for 5.95, which we all chose to do. The two salads are about the right size for one person. The pork belly was delicious. The asparagus and leek tart came with a generous serving of smoked salmon. This was also delicious. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
Anthony C — Google review
Great place for breakfast and coffee. For our group we ordered the French toast, the shakshuka, the full breakfast, and Turkish eggs - everything was very good. We also got a chocolate brownie and a chocolate cake, both gluten free, and they were moist, rich and delicious.

4.5/5 Excellent food if a bit pricey for what you get. I think the service let it down. We sat upstairs where it was supposed to be table service but the staff were, presumably, too busy to attend to a lot of the tables who were having to go and place their own orders. No one asked if everything was ok once we'd received our food or if we wanted further drinks etc.

Very clean and tidy store. But the prices are way beyond the quality of products, especially shoes and men's clothing. Nice cafe. The main observation that bothered me every time I visited the store was a sense of unfrienliness by the staff making me feel that only whites were welcome.

Nestled in a vibrant atmosphere, Mama Fay's is a delightful eatery that brings the flavors of the Caribbean to your plate. Specializing in Jamaican cuisine, this charming spot offers an array of dishes like jerk chicken and curried goat, all prepared with care. The menu features comforting favorites such as their renowned Ital Stew, which has garnered much love from patrons. Recently, they've expanded their offerings to include options for those who prefer familiar tastes, like the Crispy Bolt Chicken.
Food is absolutely out of this world here and very reasonably priced. It did take a while for the food to come out, but it was worth the wait. The mixed platters are very good and give you a good taste of the Caribbean!

First time at Mama Fay's since it moved and I was not disappointed, in fact we thought it was off the scale AMAZING. The chef is blessed by the almighty! His food, spices and blends are top notch. The ambience of the new restaurant is lovely, calm and funky. The staff are lovely 😍 We live an hour away but our monthly visit to Aberystwyth will now include a trip to Mama Fay's. Good food is hard to come by in this part of Wales but this chef, and the pride he takes is a game changer. We had the Sunset Jerk Grill with 4 free sides, it was something else. I ate it with my hands and licked my fingers and lips a lot 😆😊👌 Beautiful decor, lovely colours and fantastic art adorns the walls. Even a beautiful painting on Lee Scratch Perry on the wall. 💫💥 Would defo recommend. ❤💛💚

First time at Mama Fay’s — and what a great experience! From the moment i walked in, I were greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome. The team made me feel right at home straight away. I were seated and served in no time at all. I went for the Taste of Jamaica platter so I could try a bit of everything — cheeky, cheeky! The food arrived super fast, which honestly surprised me given how good it was. Everything was packed with flavour — absolutely outstanding. Compliments to the chef! If I had to mention one small thing, it would be that after my first drink, no one came over to offer another. I ended up having to find a staff member, and I mentioned they could boost sales (and customer happiness!) by keeping an eye on refills. Other than that, top-notch service, delicious food, and a great vibe. Keep up the fantastic work, team!

Having visited the old venue several times and thoroughly enjoying the food and service, we were excited to visit the new site for our anniversary. How disappointed we were. We wondered how they could afford the new venue… tonight, we figured it out. Smaller portion sizes, hiked the menu prices and the food was tasteless. The service was moderate to say the least. £25 for a curry with 4-5 pieces of meat and salty as heck. The festivals were nice… but how difficult is flour and water? Service was mediocre at best. For this visit, we could see why they ask for full payment before any service. We were encouraging friends to visit but have now significantly backtracked. So disappointed 😢

Was looking forward to this as heard they had good vegan options but staff had a hard time knowing what was vegan on the menu and I had to ask three times for a clear answer as was originally told the halloumi burger was vegan. When the food came out the chips were a bit cold and quite undercooked, burger was tasty but looking back at the photos I don’t think the avacado was very fresh at all. Also found that the seats were a bit small and would be nicer if there was some music in the background. However I did like the decor, and the food came out quite fast. I wouldn’t be against going again if some improvements were made.

Went to Mama Fay's today for the first time, wow the food was stunning, i had the goat curry and my wife had chicken in dark gravy, we both had rice and peas and shared some dumplings. What a feast. And the jamican rum punch is amazing, pretty strong too, you can definitely taste the rum. We will definitely be going back for more super tasty food. The restaurant looks amazing inside and outside, and the warm welcome was lovely. Keep up the good work guys 5/5

We came here as a party of 7 for my birthday. Mama Fays was our favourite takeaway when we lived in Aber so we were very excited to experience the new place. I had booked our table through messenger in early June and it was confirmed. I saw some reviews recently saying there had been lost/overlooked bookings so I made sure to message again a few days before our meal to make sure we were confirmed - I was told all was fine. So it was a little bit of a surprise when we turned up at 7pm and there was no booking for our party. I didn't catch her name but the server we spoke to was very apologetic for the mishap and managed to get our big party seated quickly. The menu is very varied and interesting but a little confusing with what was/wasn't included with meals. We made our orders and were then told we'd be paying before our food came out. It felt a little disjointed and disruptive but we went along with it and we eventually worked out our individual shares. The food came out after about 15-20 minutes, it was absolutely delicious and we were all very happy. The sea bass in particular was very well received! The interior of the restaurant is really funky and fun, the place is very loud but it didn't distract from our experience. We will definitely come back, but will perhaps ring up next time to make a booking instead to avoid any confusion again.

Absolutely brilliant. The decoration inside to suit the caribbean theme was amazi g. The staff were so friendly, especially when they were on there feet all the time we were there serving other customers. The food was fantastic. Big portion for a platter that we order, but did not waste it as it was sooooooo good. Thank you very much!! Highly recommend Mamma Fays Will be visiting again for sure.👏🏽👏🏽

Car park on site chargeable but voucher from reception. Video monitored. Shops only a few metres away. Scaffolding up at front of building but warning given about possible daytime noise. We were only overnight and at back of premises so didn't affect us.

We had a wonderful stay. The room staff and food were excellent. The car park had CCTV and the parking was a great price too. We are definitely going back again. It was a Friday stay over and it was quiet and peaceful there. The breakfast was delicious and their Coffee gave Costa a run for its money. I selected White coffee and added sugar. I could have sat there all day drinking it happily. Thank you PIAH. We had a great time.

We booked 1 night here for work and had the meal deal with our room. The room was great, our work booked us the premier inn plus room, which has free ultimate WiFi, what felt like better towels, free water in the fridges and some chocolates for us. The food at the restaurant however was dreadful. We waited a couple of minutes to be sat down and then 15 minutes before someone came and took our drinks and food order. I ordered the Chicken Goujons to start and a sirloin steak for the main. The Goujons were just about ok. The steak however was dreadful. A grey piece of meat, probably cooked in a bag. It looked like it had been boiled and was wet on the outside. I understand they’re not proper chefs, as it’s premier inns own brand restaurant and a lot of it is done in the microwave and turbo ovens…. But they could have at least put it in a pan and put some colour on it after they had boiled it! No one even came to check how our food was. In the end I smothered it with peppercorn sauce and closed my eyes.. The breakfast in the morning wasn’t much better, it’s a buffet style breakfast, all you can eat. But the “chef” was putting 2 of each item out on the serving plates instead of cooking a load. So by the time it was our turn, there was hardly anything left, we had to wait for more to Come out and we were 3rd up in the morning. Apart from the food and service it was a nice stay!

Great beds. No shock there as Premier Inn beds are exceptional. However the room was too warm even with the ac set to the lowest. You will be expected to pay £8 to park overnight. They have ANPR cameras and warnings up everywhere that if you break their parking rules you will be charged £100! Look for free off street car parking. We were a group of 4 bikes and therefore had to pay £32 parking. We could have fitted into one space but when asking the staff about that were told that regardless of the spaces used it would be £8 per bike. Needless to say we took four spaces which seems an absolute waste of space especially when it is so limited. They really should add this into the price, because an extra £32 on the bill would have got us a couple of rooms with views of the gorgeous bay (as seen in the photos). There are other really good options in Aberystwyth so have a good look on the comparison sites for ideas.

A good stay. Rooms finecsnc as you expect. Don't expect sea views as it says sea front location bug its set back from the front. Breakfast good selection but slow to replenish the food especially the berries and yogurts. All in all a comfortable one night stay. Parking is £8 for a 24 hour stay.
Emma L — Google review
Typical premier inn, steady and basic on the Aberystwyth s promenade. The room we were in was of good size. The shower was a bit dated but clean. The registration was painful, I did it in the app, but like everyone else had to queue to get my key. The machine issuing the keys wasn't working so the receptionist had to give us their master cards. Now, why can't I use my mobile app to know my room and open my door? Other companies do that.
Kaveh M — Google review
A decent premier inn in a good location. My last premier inn experience was poor in London, so pleased that this worked out well. We were lucky enough to have a sea front view and large room. Breakfast was great and efficient. Staff were all very pleasant. I realise Premier Inns are not actual 4 stars but this one is better than the others I have stayed at so wanted to mark it up a bit.

Great location in the centre of town. Probably not ideal if you are looking for peace and quiet - the town centre isn’t. We stayed overnight for a university open day. We booked food elsewhere which was a shame, as the food in Harry’s looked great. Breakfast was really good. Our room was perfect - twin room had a sofa; small table and a decent en-suite. Can’t fault it really. The staff were efficient - can’t say they were overly friendly but it was very, very busy. Will definitely return.

Had a beautiful Sunday lunch. Had roast lamb. It was so tender. And lovely. Plenty of vegetables and roast potatoes. The sticky toffee pudding was absolutely delicious. Both lunch and desert were hot to the end of the meal. I'd highly recommend booking and going for lunch. They allow well behaved dogs as well which is great. The staff were lovely and polite. Well Worth the money... Will be going again. Only had the lunch. Didn't stay at the hotel.. But if the rooms are as nice and clean as the bar and restaurant.. then you'd be hard to find a more beautiful place to have lunch . 27th July 2025.

We were a party of four bikers and we had the family room which contained a lounge area with tea and coffee facilities Two separate bedrooms with a double bed in one and twin beds in the other i can't fault the room at all, downstairs is a lively bar with sky sports and pool tables and a restaurant .. There were lots of different lager and cider available but only one bitter . secure car/bike parking . Superb service friendly staff ,friendly management. Excellent customer service made to feel welcome the moment we set foot in the place. Wonderful breakfast . Well worth a visit,a real credit to the town

Nice clean and easy to quickly visit but occasionally a lot of road noises, OK to sleep but noisy in the evening but not at night. Initially no WiFi access in my bedroom but after talking with the workers here we were moved to a very quiet set of rooms with full WiFi away from the road. Great workers Thanks 😀

I have no idea how this hotel gets the rating score. Our room was clean and bright. There were signs that upkeep is slipping (window ledge coming apart, shower base scratched. Room on 2nd floor only accessible by narrow stairs (and carpet of dubious cleanliness) - would be a problem for some guests. Staff were as helpful as they could be. We had no Wifi in our room for the 2 nights we were there - and seemingly no-one could address the problem. Parking limited (and not guaranteed spot - even though our booking suggested it might be). Overall run-down and way over-priced for the facility.

Handy for beach and station, friendly staff and clientele, bike storage no bother, pleasant rooms and a good breakfast. Would stay again.

Always good, polite welcoming bar staff, managers make you feel welcome from the 1st visit to the 100th , and they do well to keep the town idiots out, so you always know you can have a pint in peace or around decent people - definitely my go-to pub in Aber! FOOD IS AMAZING TOO 👏🍻😊 #Pub #Staff #Managers #Aber #Food #People #Pint

Speed of service was outstanding. Quality of the food -4_* We have been to so many chineese takeaways and compared to them - they are good for the price. We were in a hurry to catch the train and the lady on the counter was so understanding and delivered the food on and perfect time. Under 13 mins we had 3 mains and sides .

Passing through on route to South Wales called in for some tea had special fried rice curry sauce also some salt & pepper wings the special rice was as expected but the wings were something else 10/10 better than my local in Manchester so if your passing call in have that treat takeaway also we took away had on the front gave us decent plastic forks

Blandest Chinese I've ever had. Chow mein had absolutely no meat in it and chicken balls were 90% dough. Sweet & Sour sauce tasted horrible too. Choose somewhere else to eat

AVOID THIS PLACE. It doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Ordered food through Uber to our holiday home we were staying in. Spare ribs had no meat on just loads of fat and oil. Rang to complain, none of them could talk English. Talking Chinese down the phone. The one could only speak a very little bit. Asked me to get the ribs back out of the bin and take them back to their shop and they’d give me more. Told them I was not getting in a big industrial bin and that I don’t have time to be going down to their shop, they then ended the phone. I rang them back and he said he would get the Uber to bring me money for my spare ribs but no one arrived. Food hygiene is also 2 which we never realised before we ordered. We spent £46 and what a waste it was!!!

Large spoons connected to railway station, good outside space on what was railway platforms. Good hot food, but one of the more expensive due to location. Just around the corner from here is retail park with 3 hour free parking. Spoons is quite noisy due to size of seating area.

Nice pub right on the train station with all you would expect from a typical wetherspoons, excellent value & a decent atmosphere quite popular with students locals. A fair number of seating booths that are well positioned if you like to be slightly away from the crowd. Overall a decent night out & the food is pretty good.
Michael D — Google review
Breakfast pretty decent, although they wouldn't allow me to swap out the tomatoes for toast as most other Wetherspoons do. Cider (Black Dragon and Old Rosie) were available, but not in the usual boxed form, instead they were on a pull which destroys the taste. All other Wetherspoons I have ever been in keep these two STILL ciders in their original boxes from Westons.

The young woman who brought my drink couldn't speak or smile. She needs some training or maybe she was having an off day. She served me twice. I said thank you but no response from her. Barman was pleasant enough. I won't return.

Plenty to of other dog friendly pubs including the Hoptamist, Vale of Rheidol, The White horse which we were willing to spend our money eating and drinking.

having been at university for 3 years and trying everywhere for a drink, this is by far the best place in aberystwyth! the constantly changing beers are a great surprise every time we’d visit. (also have tasty cider and non alcoholic drinks) the staff are so lovely and friendly and are always willing to help if you’ve got any questions/recommendations. they have a great selection of games to play whilst you drink in either the front of the house or in the well kept patio at the back. definitely worth a visit!

My husband and I recently moved back to Aberystwyth and this has become our new local and favourite place to grab a beer. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, and the selection of beer and cider is ever changing but always top notch. There is also a range of gins and others spirits available, and they let you order or bring food in, too. It's always clean and well maintained and has a lovely atmosphere. They're dog and child friendly, have board games and blankets which makes it feel even more cosy and inviting. They play fantastic music and have a nice little back garden if you want to enjoy the sunshine or have a smoke or vape. Definitely check out this pub if you get the chance!

A really well stocked bottle shop and tap room. Stumbled across the place by accident but was a great find. Had really fresh local beer and neipa, IPA, sours etc at (I think) very fair prices. Everything I sampled was great over two visits. Live music in the evening and wish I could have stayed for that too. Dog friendly with scooby snacks at the bar

Great little real ale and craft beer bar / shop in a converted terrace house in a quiet back street. Simple wooden seating and tables, small outdoor back yard area. Huge range of beers, including 3 cask ales, about 12 kegs and dozens of bottles / cans. Not expensive .Very friendly and helpful owner. Spent a very happy hour here after a hot cliff walk from Borth. Well worth seeking out.

Visited here almost every day of our weeks holiday. Fantastic range including loads of great local breweries and perfectly kept cask. All of the staff we encountered were really friendly very knowledgeable and an absolute credit to the place. We most certainly did not feel like tourists ;-) Cheese board was brilliant value too. Excellent options for drink in/takeout including some epic local ciders. Big thumbs up!

The Vale of Rheidol Railway is an enchanting 12-mile Edwardian railway offering first-class carriages and an audio tour, traversing hillside woodlands. This narrow gauge railway, which originally served local industries, now provides a delightful journey for visitors to immerse themselves in the stunning Ceredigion scenery. The hour-long ride winds through mountains, fields, and woodland in the Rheidol Valley before reaching Devils Bridge.
Visited on Thursday, 04th September 2025. Bought a return ticket to Devils Bridge on a rainy day. I was staying in town and took a short trip across town to the Vale of Rheidol Railway Station in Aberystwyth. My train ticket inc access to the new Engine Shed, but my wife, who wasn't going on the train, had to pay £5 for Engine Shed access only, which was fair enough IMO. Car parking is chargeable at the end of your journey, and there was plenty of it at the station. The VoR station is about 300 yards from the mainline station if you're coming by train. The ticket office encompasses a well-stocked shop inc a model train running above your head around the ticket office/shop, and you have to pick up a paper ticket even if you have purchased your ticket online. Don't lose this as the guard wants to see and clip it before the start and return journeys.. There is also a café I didn't go to, but the engine shed is brilliant inc the lovely block flooring, smell as well as the Southern Railway front transported from London. The platforms provide views of the carriage and engine sheds. The whole site is in great condition and has obviously had a lot of money spent on it. The toilets are magnificent. My service was at 12:15, and I witnessed the engine being prepped in advance. It was raining, but this made the engine appear even more magnificent. I, along with a few hardy souls, chose the open carriages behind the loco, which I would recommend on the journey to Devils Bridge and stay in the same for the return journey, so you get both experiences, i.e. front and back of the train. The journey itself was lovely and provided stunning views, and being near the engine, you get to hear the effort on the way to Devils Bridge (we pretty much coast on the journey back down). a little shop/ticket office with refreshments at Devils Bridge as well as toilets, but not much else, but you can walk to the nearby 3 Bridges walks, though I recommend you stick to the short walk if you want to get back on the return journey rather than wait for the one 3 hours later. Reasonable price for a great day out.

The driver who lovingly cleans and cares for this amazing steam engine obviously loves his job. It is a very memorable train journey. The train is exceedingly beautiful hand painted ceilings opulent seating. Leather pulls for windows. Fantastic train going back in time : we were seated in first class. However, we were not aware it is a bit of a trek to begin the waterfall visit so much so that if you take to 2pm train and want your first class seat returning there simply is not enough time to visit. Such a shame wish I’d booked much earlier train and was informed of this.

Booked for a birthday - 4 of us travelled. Pre book tickets as it does get booked up. What a beautiful train & stunning journey through the gorgeous Welsh countryside. Highly recommend a trip on this fab railway. The museum is also worth a visit, as is the onsite cafe. Lovely service and reasonable prices.

I love the Vale of Rheidol railway, they are always finding ways to improve the customer experience, the only downside was the facilities at devils bridge, there used to be a cafe there but no longer and for someone who can only walk short distances it was a struggle to go down to the bridge to see the falls (seen several time before). Even the chocolate shop was over crowded (as expected) But overall I did enjoy myself as the weather was perfect. I initially came for the exhibition which was incredible, well done VoR.

Fantastic! Has to be one of the best railway journeys in the UK! We travelled on a wet September day and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Devil's Bridge. The rain kind of added a great atmosphere and plenty water in the waterfalls. The journey was both relaxing and exhilarating with great views down the valley and it was hilarious watching some sheep run along behind and beside the carriage. The sounds and atmosphere was special. It was then a short walk to Devil's Bridge where we climbed down a steep set of steps to the waterfalls and captured some photos of this amazing structure. (P.S. You don't have to climb down the steps to see the bridges. There is a viewing point at top). We then had time for a nice coffee and cake in the coffee shop beside the bridge before heading back to the train. So glad we did this! I would highly recommend this as a top attraction to visit.
Paul S — Google review
What an amazing day out! The steam train ride was such a unique experience — as soon as the engine started up, with the whistle blowing and the steam drifting through the air, it felt like being transported to another time. The carriages had so much character, and the whole journey had this wonderful nostalgic feel that you just don’t get anywhere else. The scenery along the route was beautiful, with rolling countryside, little villages, and plenty of spots that made me want to grab my camera. The gentle rhythm of the train and the sound of the engine made the ride so relaxing but also really exciting at the same time. It’s the kind of outing that leaves you smiling long after it’s over. Whether you’re into trains or not, the whole atmosphere makes it a special and memorable experience. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different, and I’d jump at the chance to go again!

It’s years since I last travelled on the Vale of Rheidol railway - what an experience!! Around every corner there’s another “wow”. Very comfortable journey, views in every direction out of clean windows. The Aberystwyth station has everything: a great museum, and a fabulous cafe! The Devil’s Bridge end of the line is under further development, but there is a great shop across the road selling chocolate, odds and ends and hot drinks. A grand day out!!
Tony B — Google review
The narrow guage railway runs from the seaside town of Aberystwyth along the vale of Rheidol Valley steadily climbing upwards from just 14 feet above sea level to over 650 feet. There are some stunning views along the way,the journey takes approximately 1 hour. On arrival at Devils Bridge station, the train waits for an hour before returning to Aberystwyth. Passengers have time to visit the nearby Devils Bridge attraction to see the gorge and waterfalls. You will only have time to visit the top section of the attraction in the hour the train waits, to do the complete tour take an early train and take a later train back down. For those not going to the attraction the railway serves drinks and snacks and has toilet facilities. There also time to take photos, look at their steam locomotive and perhaps visit the lovely chocolate shop just over the road. There are also some picnic tables to use. It's also possible to start your journey from Devils Bridge,it has a car park with a daily charge of £4. At Aberystwyth station there is a railway museum with a great collections of locomotives on display from tiny engines to huge tender locomotives, it well worth visiting. There is also a cafe and toilet facilities. An adult return trip costs £30 if booked online and £35 at the door, they have a lovely first class observation coach which costs £52.50 online & £56 on the door. My recommendation would be to take standard class in the downward journey as the loco is right in front, pay the £12 upgrade to travel 1st class on the way up, you'll be at the back and get the most stunning views in armchair seats. A standard return trip for kids is just £6 and under 3's are free. The railway offers discount for groups if 20 or more. It really is a beautiful trip and makes a full day out with a visit to Devils Bridge Gorge and a tour of the museum at Aberystwyth and lunch at the cafe.

What an incredible place. One of a few I wish I could give a 6th star to. We had a lovely tapas lunch with Vermouth and wine. Everything, every little detail was perfect. Incredible cheese and meat platter, simply divine light and fluffy Croquetas, and the almond tart with cream and sherry, OMG! Simply stunning. Lovely staff too. Bravo!!

Food was really really good here, but our server was not quite up to it. We were often the last to get our drinks and food and we're given one option for a dish of the day when someone else after us got offered 3 options! This aside, the food is very good and we'll be back to try some more dishes.

Antalya Restaurant in Aberystwyth, Wales offers a delightful dining experience with its phenomenal food and generous portions. The restaurant is known for its Adana Kebab and bulgur, which are highly recommended by satisfied customers. Visitors can enjoy watching the food being prepared while appreciating the excellent service provided by the staff. The restaurant's commitment to using fresh ingredients results in spot-on flavors that make it a must-visit for those looking for quality and value in their dining experience.
First time here and what an Aberystwyth jewel! Complimentary flat bread and dips - delicious! Chicken wing starter - fantastic! I’m talking proper bbq’d wings here 👌 And main course was enough for two people! Again this was fantastic, also, great service needs a mention. I’ll 100% be back! Well done 🫡👏👏👏

We passed this place on the seafront and liked the look of it so decided to give it a go and were surprised at how good it was. The food was very tasty and the staff delightful. The young lady with the beautifully done tattoos was brilliant. The main reception guy was very helpful. You can watch the food being prepared, they clearly know what they are doing. Amazing place, good quality, good value and well worth a visit.

Great turkish food with a great view from the second floor. We ordered the mixed grill platter, the rice portion was small but the grills tasted amazing. Good variety of starter dishes too with complimentary fresh bread.
Mina J — Google review
A smallish restaurant downstairs by the kitchen but that meant we could see the chefs freshly cooking all the dishes. Superb food and very good service. Will visit again.
Murray T — Google review
Very disappointing. £36 for these 2 dishes. The meat was just passable. The chips were not cooked fresh, were uneatable as they were cooked maybe hours before my order. Definitely not cooked on my order. The bread was left inside the box and was completely soaked on arrival home after 15 minutes, it could be better to wrap it separately. Also asked for a pot of chilli sauce that was not included. I do not recommend this place. If you are in the area for holidays as we were better order your food somewhere else.

This restaurant was recommended so we tried it out tonight. Located on the sea front opposite the pier, views are spectacular. For starters we had tzatziki and aubergine with delicious bread. We had chicken shish and Adana with rice and salad. Followed by baklava and tea. Food was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked in front of you in the open kitchen. Staff were warm and welcoming. Highly recommended.
Ladan H — Google review
Nine of us visited on a Sunday evening and all came away having thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Portions were generous, and everyone was impressed with the flavoursome food. I had the Lamb Platter - the Lamb Shish was very tasty and remarkably tender, the chops and Adana Kebab were very good too. The Bulgar was flavourful and even the side salad was good. I polished the meal off with a Turkish Coffee which was nice and strong.

Amazing food - very well presented with unique but delicious flavours. Was very surprised how good it was. The staff were also super accommodating - found us a table despite the restaurant being packed

Arrived early and was met by a member of staff who gave us a warm welcome. Very spacious surroundings and lots of social distance measures in place. Fantastic menu with lots to choose from. We had large and little breakfast with American pancakes, all of which were lovely. Worth a walk off the promenade to find this great cafe 👍🏻

Top place to eat with friendly staff. We ordered 2 panini's and some pancakes with fruit( for our 7 year old LG) with drinks and it came to less than 19 quid. Bargain

Very spacious cafe with seating out front. We had the pancakes with berries and maple syrup and the Mikey's large cooked breakfast. The coffee and food was excellent. Can't fault anything at all. Recommended.

Food is mainly home-made, tasty and allows for all from slimmers upwards. It's very good. Service is friendly and the prices are very competitive. Sorry about the picture but it was just too good.

Pub
Restaurant
If you're looking for a lively spot in Aberystwyth, The Cambrian is the place to be! This vibrant pub not only boasts an energetic atmosphere but also features fantastic live music that showcases local talent. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or planning a night out with friends, The Cambrian offers an impressive selection of beers and ales to complement your experience.
Popped in for lunch with my children and mum. Much better atmosphere than the spoons over the road! The lady on the bar was lovely and even sorted some colouring for my daughters. The food was really tasty. Both my mum and I had the Guinness pie, it was so good! Children's menu was good value for money and all decent sized portions too.

What’s not go love about this pub? The staff are top knotch. The food is top knotch. They have a pool table and dartboard which is also top knotch. They play great music which is… you guessed it - Top knotch! One of the main men behind the bar happened to be an old of mine from many years ago. You’d expect this review to be a bit biased then wouldn’t you? But no, this is the god honest truth about the pub. The main man’s knowledge, dedication and care for his customers is second to none. Also hearing that many of the staff here have been with them for decades, it shows the care they recieve from their owners - classy. And I haven’t even said a word about the food yet! Well here we go! I was recommended to have the Ribs & Chips and I wasn’t let down! The only disappointment was the fact I had a knife and fork to eat with as spoon would have done a better job to rip the meat off the bone. Top top cooking. The ribs were tasty, tender and terrific! The prices are so incredibly reasonable which is surprising seeing as this pub’s meat is all sourced from local butchers! The next time you visit a certain well known chain that’s directly across the road, think again, directly opposite is quite arguably the best pub grub in Aberystwyth! A 10* from me!

For a pub style food, this place is 10 out of 10. Food was cooked perfectly. Everything was piping hot and cooked the way we ordered. Service was with a smile. Was a tad bit loud, but what do you expect for a Friday night. As a man from London visiting the weekend. I would recommend this place to everyone. 3 mains and 2 starters and a round of drinks, £60 absolute stunner of a place

Don't be out off by the outside and scaffolding..... Nice pub with good food at great prices. We tried the bangers and mash special and got one between 2 of us as not that hungry.... By got the size of the sausages! Both full and nothing left behind. Nice bar staff and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely going there next time as we will be visiting Aberystwyth more in future.

Old hotel very central opposite Aberyswyth railway station Currently having a refurb outside Pub caters for students in night and a pub in the day Had drinks and a meal food was good and reasonably priced Pub inside could do with a deep clean floors very sticky and a bit tired Nice pub one of the better pubs in Aberyswyth Also Dog Friendly

Don’t be put off by the scaffolding outside. If you want some proper pub food thats not microwaved you need to come here I had my usual go to meal hunter’s chicken and I have to say it was the BEST I have ever had definitely going to go back when I get chance

Treehouse, located at 14 Baker St, Aberystwyth, SY23 2BJ, is a delightful spot offering top-notch vegetarian and vegan wholefoods. The cafe features a great deli counter and serves delicious and wholesome food at modest prices. Visitors can enjoy the 'lazy breakfast' which includes organic wholemeal toast, local cheeses, muesli, orange juice, a soft-boiled egg, and fine coffee. Superb throughout. Excellent stock of whole foods plus upstairs is a superb cafe serving exceptional whole foods to suit all. Good menu and plenty of beverages. Excellent service, good value, what’s not to like!

Love this place , so friendly and cosy . The most delicious vegetarian / vegan food . Wonderful cafe and shop .

One of our favourite places to stop for a meal on the West Coast. Delicious wholesome vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. Can be busy at peak times (no surprise). Arty atmosphere and quirky decor. Lovely friendly and very helpful staff. Wholefoods shop on ground floor beneath restaurant. Highly recommended.
Lois C — Google review
Friendly and great Organic shop with a lovely cafe. The changes to the menu though were very disappointing as I much preferred the original menu. The food was nice and the staff friendly but the old atmosphere in the cafe which made it feel more homely has all but vanished. The shop is great though and offers all sorts of organic goodies.
Bacon S — Google review
Been here several times and never had any complaints. The atmosphere is pleasant. The service is friendly. Most important, the vegan food is exceptional and good size portions too. No smells of cooked non-human flesh either. Free WiFi. Whether you are vegan, vegetarian or neither, you will not be disappointed. Best to arrive early as the daily specials soon go!

Claimed pure honey but wasn't. Sugar blended can be seen.

This place is wonderful. Lovely staff, delicious, wholesome food and modestly-priced. I ordered the "lazy breakfast" and got three huge slices of organic wholemeal toast, butter, 2 pots of jam - full-sized, help yourself - three different local cheeses, muesli, orange juice, a perfect soft-boiled egg and a cup of very fine coffee for £6.40. Really excellent, and the shop downstairs is an Aladdin's cave of fine wholefoods. Highly recommended.
Dauvit A — Google review
Reasonable prices, even when the place is busy you will not wait for too long. Absolutely love their veggie burger, it's big and very filling. Soups are tasty and satiating, especially because they come in big sizes and with a roll and butter. A good selection of teas available, and a range of cakes for dessert is great, anyone can find something for themselves, whether vegan, vegetarian or gluten free.
