The Necropolis of Tarquinia, also known as the Necropolis of Tarquinia di Monterozzi, is a significant archaeological complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It features Etruscan tombs adorned with vibrant paintings depicting human figures and animals. The site, dating back to the 9th century BC and expanding from the 7th century BC, spans 20 hectares in Cerveteri.
That's a very interesting archaelogical site. The visit takes two hours as we saw all the tombs' chambers with their decoration. On the tombs' walls there are also paintings of fighting animals, banquet scenes, flowers and fruits. The price of the ticket is not expensive, considering that it also includes the visit to the Tarquinia Museum.

Nice. Lots of stairs. Well preserved. BUT only half of the necropolis is open to visitors due to PNRR renovation. they didn't tell us at the ticket office.

Absolutely unique archaeological site. Really worth the visit. Unfortunately, around 3/4 of the site and around 2/3 of the most famous tombs (including the most famous, of the Leopards) are under renovation for “at least” more 6 months and currently not accessible. I did not find this information anywhere before driving here.
Thomaz P — Google review
Wonderful archeological site. This was the second time I took our children here and It went really well. Children really like to check every tomb, go down the stairs, push the button that turns the light on and admire the paintings. The only thing is that this time the bar was closed but drinking water was available at the entrance.

It's a wonderful place rich in Italian history! Bravo to the Tuscany's wisdom and architecture! It will live for years and years!...earn for years and years!...be enjoyed for years and years! Glory to God, the author of all creation 🙏🙏🙏
Masereka R — Google review
The place is worth visiting. A green hill overlooking the fields outside the city. Filled with well preserved chambers/ tombs what are dug into the ground and "visitable". The admission which normally is just €8 for adults, was free on the 1st sunday of the month. Signs tell in italian and english the story behind each of the persons to which the tombs are devoted to. The simple architecture of the place, the scenery and the fact that a lot of work has been put in place to make this visitor friendly even for everyone make it certainly worth your time.

Scenic spot
Belvedere della Ripa, located near the city wall from Porta di Castello to San Giacomo Church, offers a stunning panoramic view of the city. The surreal atmosphere in the heart of Etruscan civilization feels like a journey back to the Middle Ages. The well-preserved environment and suggestive night lighting create a breathtaking experience. This spot also includes the charming little church of Tarquinia, adding to its magical appeal.
A must visit spot if you are in Tarquinia. Very beautiful scenery.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful sight complete with the little church of Tarquinia. Tarquinia is a magical town that stole my heart and that forces me to go back every now and then, a small San Marino with much more tranquility and fewer shops, but with much more courtesy and hospitality (not that San Marino doesn't have that, but here you really feel at home, seeing is believing). Furthermore, every corner of Tarquinia makes you think "hey, how beautiful...is it possible that in such a small place there is such a wonder?" truly an extraordinary place, one of the special corners of our peninsula worth visiting (Original) Bellissimo bel vedere con tanto di chiesetta di Tarquinia. Inoltre ogni angolo di Tarquinia ti fa pensare "ehi ma che bello...possibile che in un posto così piccolo ci sia una meraviglia tale?" davvero un posto straordinario, uno degli angoli speciali della nostra penisola da dover visitare

History Museums
Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Tarquinia - Palazzo Vitelleschi is a must-visit museum housed in the magnificent Palazzo Vitelleschi, showcasing one of Italy's finest collections of Etruscan artifacts. The museum features an impressive array of Etruscan finds, including terra-cotta winged horses from the 4th century BC and a large collection of Etruscan and Roman sarcophagi and funeral objects.
Painted burial tombs and lots of etruscan artifacts. Additional exhibits and collection including Lippe painting.
Mark S — Google review
What a treasure! I definitely recommend this amazing museum. It probably hosts the richest collection of Etruscan art. You will dig into the past discovering their cults and their skills in working metals and rocks. The ticket (combined with the tombs is only 10 euros). The beautiful building of the museum is itself worth the price of the visit. I am not giving 5 stars because unluckily, the pieces at the museum are not well displayed. The narrative during the visit and the descriptions of the objects are missing. But worst of all, I didn’t see any indications in English. I’m saying this as an Italian, sorry but this is not acceptable in 2021!
Mario M — Google review
Very good museum fast and easy. With a lot of context and informations and it shows a lot of exemples. Only big problem, there is too little of English traductions, most of it is in Italian which makes it hard to understand the history of the Étrusques without knowing Italian.
Elouen M — Google review
One of my favorite museums in Italy. It features a very large collection of Etruscan and Roman sarcophagi and funeral objects. Don't miss it!
Zatoichi — Google review
Too little info in English. Such precious items from the tombs, and so weirdly organized, with no logic or attention to details. Just looks like the artifacts were just placed there like into some storage. Some unwanted renaissance art exhibitions when people came to see Etruscan history! And the price combined with Necropolis - you cannot pick only one. Some strange ladies are only sitting in the museum rooms, and when you greet them, they are just staring speechless. For 10 euros ladies on the ticket desk can be more nice and at least know numbers in English. Looks like the museum is created for the Italian schoolkids who anyway would rather go to McDonald's instead of that.
Tetiana K — Google review

This museum has a lot of finds of Etruscan civilians. It also has some greek vases. The informations are clear and it has more than one floors with expositions. It's very complete.

The artefacts are wonderful, however too little info in English, very little explanation of details in English, quite expensive. Bizarre ticket vendor at the Necropolis, verbally abusive. Necropolis =disappointing, Museum in Tarquinia =nice. Overall, disappointing, discouraging.

Etruscopolis is a fascinating and unique site that offers guided tours for visitors. Although it may be challenging to locate due to its hidden entrance, the experience is described as extraordinary. The museum features detailed reproductions of paintings from several tombs, providing a closer look at the intricate details not easily visible behind glass doors in the actual tombs. Additionally, there is a perfect reconstruction of daily life in ancient civilization, offering an educational and engaging experience for children and teenagers.
Really enjoyed the museum and professional guided tour! The guide was amazing. Beforehand I visited etruscan necropolis and here in this museum could see detailed reproduction of paintings of several tombs with all details (normally you can’t see the details because of glass door in each tomb). Interesting reproduction of etruscan city, temples and houses. If you want to find museum, check the map on their website, otherwise on Google maps the red point is misleading

Very unique experience underground Tarquinia. As I was explained by a very knowledgeable guide, this place represents the most realistic reconstruction of some of the most famous Etruscan tombs, homes, paintings and artifacts, all created by this former Mr. Omero, passed away in 2018, and whose life was unbelievably entwined with the Etruscan life, habits and artifacts. Definitely worth seeing.

The food is very average. Both pasta carbonara and cacio e Pepe were way too salty, heavy on sauce, and not very fresh (and not delicious). For an Italian restaurant, it’s a fail.

Well worth a stop in Tarquinia!

I'm surprised to read the reviews here today as they are diametrically opposite to our experience one evening last week. Service from a young woman was, at best, dismissive. No smile, no pleasantries. Despite being empty we were shown to a small table next to a wall. We felt dismissed as we only ordered house wine and one pasta course. The carafe of wine was full of 'bits', we've never known this before, very unpleasant. I ordered a duck pasta that tasted heavily of offal, bore little relationship to duck. Husbands Carbonara was swimming in oil and far too much Parmesan, almost inedible. As for atmosphere, there was none, nice interior, what a shame. Such a disappointment, every meal out, however simple, is so important when you are on holiday. Perhaps things are better on a Friday or Saturday night.

(Translated by Google) Nice place with large veranda, excellent service, friendly staff. High quality products well prepared with excellent cooking. Wide selection of beer and wines. Quiet area for a meal with a relaxing chat. Parking a little difficult to find. I would say that in general it is excellent.

The staff was exceptional: helpful, friendly, and attentive to every detail, from initial planning to the closing ceremony. The food was plentiful, tasty, and served with care. The atmosphere? Warm and festive, perfect for celebrating a special moment. A sincere thank you for making everything so easy and memorable in such a short time. We couldn't have asked for more! (Translated by Google) Delicious, thin and crispy pizza, available in a variety of flavors with an excellent all-you-can-eat option. This unlimited portion size allows for a wide selection and, most importantly, avoids unnecessary waste. The place is very nice and clean, with extremely kind and tireless staff. A special mention goes to the fritto misto, a truly affordable addition to the pizza, featuring chips, supplì, croquettes, mozzarella, and calamari, all carefully and tastefully fried. Reservations are recommended. (Original) Pizza sottile e croccante, deliziosa, proposta in molti gusti diversi con una ottima formula all you can eat che, trattandosi di illimitate porzioni contenute nelle singole dimensioni, ti consente una panoramica molto ampia e soprattutto evita inutili sprechi. Locale molto carino e pulito, personale gentilissimo e instancabile. Menzione speciale per il fritto misto, proposto con una davvero modica aggiunta economica alla formula della pizza, perchè presenta patatine, supplì, crocchette, mozzarelle e calamari fritti con molta cura e gusto. Consiglio prenotazione

(Translated by Google) Hi, we stopped by without a reservation and luckily found a place for two. We didn't know they only did pizza rounds, but the staff suggested we opt for fried calamari. Excellent selection, plentiful, really good, and not the usual oily one. With water, we paid less than €30. We parked on the nearby side streets. Very busy place. I recommend it. Parcheggiato nelle traverse limitrofe. Locale molto affollato.... Lo consiglio.
