Shopping
Westgate Shopping Centre in Stevenage is a modern indoor mall offering a wide range of high-street fashion, beauty, and homeware stores. The center features 35 retail outlets including big-name brands like H&M and River Island, as well as cafes and restaurants. Conveniently located near the train station, it provides ample parking and a variety of shopping experiences. Additionally, the neighborhood centers around the area offer various shops such as fast food outlets, mini supermarkets, hairdressers, and more.
Wonderful place for shopping, place that you can find everything as shop, toilet and parking not very convenient but possible . Nice atmosphere very good shops, all kind of. Very busy in this time of the year, the opening hours ok but closing at 5.30 pm some 6pm . Safe walking around. Located in town centre close the station ( buses also trains). Good market outside as well.

You can always tell how rundown an area is if they don’t have a Waitrose or a Marks & Spencer’s. We had coffee at Esquire coffee it was absolutely disgusting. We ordered a full English vegan and non-vegan and both of us had left most of it. The shopping centre looked really rundown. It’s not what I’m used to and not enough cafés …very disappointed.
Tmd B — Google review
It's a small, indoor shopping centre, right in the main part of Stevenage town centre. There are a variety of shops, including clothing, toys and healthcare. There are several cafes too. The shopping centre is generally pretty quiet, but it is reasonably clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of seats. There are also customer toilets, but they are on the first floor and can only be accessed via the lifts (there are no stairs or escalators). Overall, not a bad little shopping centre. There are some good shops, but you probably wouldn't find everything you need here.

Me and my mum went to have a nice breakfast i got the full engalish my mum got a victoria sponge the breakfast was terrible the hash brown had a weird smell and a green tinge the egg was half cooked out of its life the bacon was looking sorry for itself. Over all everything looked and tasted disgusting not impressed. NOT RECOMMEND 😡
Stanley B — Google review
Very well run and staffed shopping centre. We all know there are many holes in our high streets these days. Not too many here. Very clean and perfectly it is below their own multi story car park and leads to every corner of Stevenage.

Nice shopping centre with a good variety of stores, cafes, and places to grab a quick bite. Clean and well-maintained, with plenty of options for fashion and essentials. Convenient location in Stevenage town centre

Absolutely vast array of shops to choose from. And great selection of food outlets. We have taken one star because parking is incredibly expensive.!

The Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage is a cultural hub that offers a diverse range of entertainment, including drama, variety shows, comedy, and music performances. Named after the renowned theatre director and set designer Gordon Craig, this modern venue features two auditoriums: The smaller Theatre with 500 seats and the larger Concert Hall with a capacity of 1,200. As a receiving theatre, it hosts touring performers from various genres throughout the year.
This theatre space is fantastic. We had great audiences here for the Smartest Giant. The tech team were very helpful.

Saw Molly Vickers dance show. It was amazing. I know there were a few technical issues the day before, but today ran very smoothly. Seating is good too. High enough over the seat in front to have a good view of the whole stage

Went with a wheelchair user. Very good assistance and accommodation for disabled patrons. My one complaint is that there is no access to the bar area for wheelchairs, even though there is a lift from the floor above. The ground floor lift is undergoing works ATM, but all they need is to open access from above.
Pierre G — Google review
We went by train which is so convenient for the theatre as you come out of the train station go across the bridge and the theatre is in the buildings on the other side. The theatre staff were organised and friendly. The show was great, a theatre where you are allowed to get up in your seat and dance to the music. I have found recently this is not always the case in other theatres.
Mandy J — Google review
Well organised theatre. Plenty of parking nearby, train station steps away! Ample seating , bar & cafe available while waiting for the show to start. Seating in the theatre is spacious, plenty of leg room.
ANGIE W — Google review
The venue is easy to find and a short distance to parking, although the queue to pay at the end is long as there are only two machines we could see. Regarding the venue itself: The hall is big, the PA could have been louder. The seats are uncomfortable as hell, and narrow. For late comers in the middle of the row, everyone has to get up and even out as the rows are close together too. In winter must be fun managing coats and drinks! The view challenging for short people as it’s not tiered in the close to the stage seats. The queues for the toilets long but toilets were clean. The drinks at the bar are reasonable but service is slow - it’s always slow in theatres so not a surprise. Staff is helpful and nice. I’m not going back to this venue again.

I visited Gordon Craig Theatre to see Man In The Mirror - A Michael Jackson Tribute. The theatre was clean and tidy. The toilets were clean. There was a well stocked bar. The show was very good and a lovely evening out.

Went to see granddaughter in a production. Would not be inclined to visit when dark. Route from train station to theatre entrance was unkempt and we could not see any surveillance cameras. It didn't feel too safe. The theatre itself was ok and the seats had plenty of leg room.

Hermitage Rd Bar and Restaurant in Hitchin offers a unique dining experience with its cavernous, industrial-chic space and open kitchen where Mediterranean small plates and grill dishes are prepared. The former ballroom setting adds to the charm, providing a backdrop for quirky cocktails from the bar and live music performances. The restaurant also caters to vegan diners with an array of plant-based options, making it a welcoming spot for all dietary preferences.
I couldn't fault this place in all honesty. We had an incredible meal that was fresh and tasty. The servers were very helpful. We were moved on request to another table due to the sun being in our eyes. It also has a lovely atmosphere in an old ballroom. Food tolerance was dealt with accordingly. We will be visiting again.
Penelope H — Google review
The food was very tasty, and you can really feel the chef’s experience in the dishes. Just a small suggestion: the mayonnaise with the truffle fries is completely unnecessary, and there’s a bit too much mayonnaise in other dishes as well. Other than that, everything was great.
Ewa L — Google review
Nice quirky, spacious caffe, with a very tasty decor and nice interior. Was a busy Monday afternoon understandable its bank holiday weekend. Sadly, quality let this place down. We were excited to order some lovely toasted bagels with different toping and different flavours. We were served quite fast and coffee arrived beautifuly presented. Bagels, sadly, was hard. To eat almost impossible to bite or chew. No cutlery was offered. Understandable due to the nature of food, maybe it's not a right way or etiquette to use knives but God they felt like a chewy rubber and toppings sliding off the hard bagel made to eat almost impossible. Messy , dripping, and not possible to consume. For that price was very disappointing and we left with big dissatisfaction Only giving 3 stars for the coffees as they were ok . I'm not sure if i ever go back as quality and service needs a lot of improvement . Don't like leaving negative feedback, but I like to leave an honest one.
Diana S — Google review
This restaurant tries to pass itself off as fine dining, but the food doesn’t live up to the price tag. The Korean chicken burger was ridiculously salty and almost inedible. The banana cream brûlée was just mashed banana and custard, with no torched top and a horrible texture. The sirloin Sunday roast, priced at over £20, was bland and underwhelming. The waitress was kind enough to refund the brûlée and offer a free chocolate mousse, but that too was just average. Service was poor – many waitresses either ignored us or walked past without a word, which didn’t justify the 12.5% service charge. Overall, it’s popular because there aren’t many options in Hitchin, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Lovely food! Service a little slow at times but the quality of food makes up for it. The staff we dealt with were friendly. Would recommend the burger!

The venue is really lovely. The food was really good but the lobster was so small I've had bigger prawns. The live music was also good but for the fact he kept taking long breaks. Overall a lovely evening but far too expensive for what we got.

"The Victoria" is a renovated 19th-century pub in Hitchin that offers a fantastic selection of at least 4 Real Ales, including independent options. The pub features TVs for sports, live music events, and a barn with a big TV for sports. Additionally, it has a large garden with a pizza kitchen and hosts themed food evenings, quiz nights, and community events like Monday Supper Clubs and Thursday Pie Nights.
This is the best pub in Hitchin, no doubt about it. Warm welcome when we arrived. We used to live in Hitchin, and frequented this alot. Haven't been for two years, but we were welcomed like we only were in yesterday. Lovely character corner pub, with a brilliant outside area, star of the show being the pizzas. Highly recommend the mushroom, with truffle oil. Excellent. Pub does not have a car park, but plenty in town. Trendy crowd. Brilliant.

Came here as a group on a Saturday night just before Christmas. It was really packed but the service was really quick. Me and a couple of others had the burgers and were slightly disappointed. My festive veggie burger was a bit dry and over cooked. It was also a bit on the pricey side. The pizzas on the other hand, looked amazing! We sat outside and had heaters and fires to keep you warm..

Great pub. Did not have food but great feel to the pub, friendly and great staff. Outside is special. Beer choice was good - better than most pubs, and tasted like it was well looked after. Ill be back.

Went for the Sunday roast which was gorgeous. Staff were super friendly and helped me find a beer I liked as well.
Briony B — Google review
Great atmosphere and food (pizza) excellent plus good range of beers and wine. Great Friday evening vibes. 2 members of staff (younger/older in age) were less welcoming/hospitable and noted by several independent members of our large party which was disappointing especially as we had large spend on the evening. This was not our usual experience when we visited this pub regularly some years ago and is hopefully a one off
Julie M — Google review
The Victoria is a lovely pub, friendly staff, a large beer garden perfect for summer. We had a table underneath a cover which was great for shade and big enough for our party of 8. Would come back!

Went for lunch with my partner. We both had the vegan burger. Was not for me but he enjoyed it, was too pasty for my liking. But the scooby snacks were yum and the sriracha chips were really good. Overall still a great place to go eat, staff friendly and drinks fair price. They had a lovely fire going inside, nice and warm. Will try again.

Raj Douth Tandoori Cuisine is a delightful culinary treasure nestled in Hitchin, and it has quickly become a favorite for many. Since discovering this charming spot just a few months ago, I've found myself returning more times than I can count! The menu boasts an array of tantalizing starters like the traditional Tandoori Chicken Starter, Chilli Paneer with green chili, and the unique Spicy Kalija Bhaji—fried chicken liver marinated with spices and caramelized onion.
Just would like to thank the staff for the lovely food and service! I spent my son and wife birthday and had an amazing time. The food was 10/10 especially the mega platter!

We really enjoyed our visit here, tonight as a family of 4. Friendly, attentive service, great food and chilled atmosphere. They even added a delicious complimentary dish to our order, which was super nice of them - perhaps because they recognised it was our first visit? Would recommend to others. It is a small to medium size restaurant, but the 4 seat booths make it feel spacious.

Food was outstanding and the best in Hitchin by far the service was top notch. I love the new look inside looks very classy. The raj specials are the ones to try very tasty and no grease which I was shocked at. Will return again soon.

Very disappointed after over 30 years of being a loyal customer. I placed an order on Saturday 27th September at 5:30pm and was told it would arrive within 55 minutes. Instead: 17:42: call to confirm the order was received 18:46: I chased and was told the meal was “on its way” 19:05: I called again and was told the same 19:20: I cancelled the order and was assured a refund 20:00: a delivery was attempted, but by then we had cooked our own food and refused it Despite promises, I still haven’t received my refund. For a restaurant I’ve supported for decades, this was an extremely poor experience.

Another really enjoyable meal at the Raj Douth - we went early evening with family. Great food - really tasty and flavoursome and not at all greasy. I always like having salmon tikka and not many places serve this. Good vegetarian options too. Very attentive service. We have been many, many times and this continues to be our favourite Indian restaurant in Hitchin.

We have been dining at Raj Douth for many years and have tried and tested most of the dishes on offer. All the food is authentic and extremely tasty. Without a doubt, the best curry in Hitchin! Never been disappointed and always delivers, if you pardon the pun. Most curries have the meat tandoori, which gives extra flavour, onion bhajis are always crispy, and food is always delivered hot / fresh. Wouldn’t order from anywhere else! Thank you

Pub
The Kite at The Red Hart, a recipient of the Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award for 2021, is housed in a historic 15th-century building and offers a variety of fine foods and beverages. This charming pub can be booked for weddings and similar events. Additionally, it provides the option of a bottomless brunch featuring unlimited lager, prosecco, mocktails or hot drinks along with a one-course meal.
Booked the whole venue for a wedding in May. It’s no exaggeration to say that everything was simply SPECTACULAR. The venue itself, the ceremony room, wedding breakfast and atmosphere were outstanding. This however wouldn’t have been possible without Jess, Freya, Liv, Alfie, Tom and Olly and the kitchen team - Olly even made us an unforgettable Pork Pie wedding cake. It honestly felt like friends were taking care of absolutely everything and all that was left for us to do was to enjoy an amazing day. So impressed we’re already planning a big birthday event so we get to do it all over again. Cannot recommend enough!

Lovely place for lunch. The staff were so friendly and nice. I was there with my friend’s kids who the staff were really great with. The food was nice, I went for the chicken Sunday roast, it was tasty and nice that the gravy was refillable. I just thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Kite at the Red Hart in November 2024. The team made the wedding planning process incredibly easy and stress-free. They liaised with suppliers and communication was great. We had the option of having specific beer/wine/cocktails which was a lovely touch. The team also had wedding signage made for us in our particular style. These details made it so special and bespoke. The venue is stunning, very modern yet very cosy and intimate which was exactly what we wanted. We were able to officially get married at the venue in their upstairs ceremony room which is beautifully decorated. Our guests said the food was the best wedding food they’ve ever had and we certainly agree! We wanted particular canapés which the chef happily accommodated and it was all delicious. We also had the chance to meet the chef to discuss options for the main food and grazing table which was beautifully presented (and tasted amazing!). They catered to various dietary restrictions including gluten free, vegan and allergies. We had live music and a dance floor area with the bar nearby which was perfect for the evening reception and party! There were so many drink options available and an amazing cocktail menu. The staff on the day of the wedding were outstanding, incredibly helpful, attentive and friendly. They made sure all of our guests were looked after and ensured the day flowed perfectly. We would highly recommend this venue if you want a fun, modern, intimate and unique wedding ceremony and reception all in one place!

I recently celebrated my 30th birthday with 25 family and friends in the Marshall Room at The Kite at the Red Hart, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. A huge thank you to Jess for being so accommodating; nothing was too much trouble, even with a few last-minute changes. Her flexibility and attention to detail made everything run so smoothly. The room was decorated beautifully, the food was absolutely incredible, and all of our guests are still talking about it. Thank you to the whole team for making the evening so special. I’d highly recommend The Kite at the Red Hart for any private event and I’ll definitely be back!

Just been to Kite for their new menu and WOW. This place never disappoints. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is great. The menu has an option for everyone. I would say this is the best quality food in Hitchin. I always love it there.

We had a rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding at the Kite, booking a private room upstairs in the pub as we had over 20 guests joining us. The Kite is an incredibly well run, beautiful and welcoming venue - the staff looked after our booking from the outset to tailor a menu that was exactly to our taste, creating a table plan, and even asking us for music preferences so we could set the tone for the evening. The food and drinks were spectacular, and great value for money, and the pub itself is a beautiful spot right in the heart of Hitchin. We had a few speeches over dinner, which the team very kindly (without us needing to ask) turning the music down whilst people stood up - a very classy touch. As a bonus, the room had air conditioning on what was one of the hottest days of the year! We couldn’t recommend this place more, you have to go!

El Bar de Tapas is a cozy, family-owned restaurant that serves up traditional Spanish small plates alongside a selection of imported wines. The warm and inviting atmosphere makes for a lovely dining experience, with attentive and friendly staff adding to the charm. While some guests found certain dishes to be on the pricier side, many enjoyed the authentic flavors of the tapas. This spot is perfect for those looking to savor Spanish cuisine in a relaxed setting.
Had lunch here today. Nice place with great music. Service was also great throughout. The food is decent and the standout dish was the chorizo. The prawns/gammas were also good. My daughter really liked the cod croquettes too. Good value as well. Three dishes for £12 on a lunchtime menu.

Located in Old Stevenage, this restaurant offers authentic Spanish food. It has a very lovely atmosphere and a welcoming staff. We had a really lovely time during father's day. The only improvement opportunity was on the paella as the flavour was slightly plain, however the rest of the food was bang on!. I would definitely recommend visiting this place

Had a wonderful meal out with friends. The food was super tasty and very filling. The service was good and we didn't wait long for our food or drinks..
Tina E — Google review
This was the second time that I visited this place. At first I did not think of writing a review, but this second visit prompted one. This is a very difficult review to write, being Spanish and comparing what I have at home with this surrogate is definitely unfair. To begin from the beginning there is a clear misunderstanding from British nationals and all other nationalities who are adopting the term "tapa". When it comes to defining what a tapa is, we have to look back into Spanish history. Tapa comes from the verb "tapar", to cover, when there was a need to protect e.g. wine in the flies infested inns from them falling into it, drinks were covered with a small plate to protect them, "la tapa". Food was prepared in big quantities and the legend says that small portions of pot cooked food started to be added to the small plate/ cover, hence the word tapa FYI. From then, as you can read on the menu, it has degenerated into any strange assortment of skewers on a plate, salmon teriyaki, to name a few, and any other strange concoction of plates that they want to sell as Spanish but that unfortunately do not represent the Spanish cuisine tradition, or tapas culture, as tapas are not eaten at the table, always standing up. Tables are for full rations. To be honest it would be a hard sell for most of the British population's taste to be confronted with what we really eat as tapas in Spain, for example; oven baked pig ears, fried blood, offal, squid eggs on the grill, sea anemone, you get the point. But going back to the review, if I ever started it, this is a nice restaurant aesthetically, the service is good and attentive and food gets prepared quickly, and some of the dishes are nice, actually quite decent. Up to here the nice part of the review, from here onwards the not so nice. To begin with, the music, loud, very loud, like you need to shout to hear yourself, and who as ever in a proper Spanish restaurant gets music being blared out like this, and the Gipsy kings on repeat, who happen to be French, come on, enough with the made up stereotypes. Then is the food, overpriced for the types of tapas, to say the least. Almost £7 for the mushrooms, you've got to be joking. Nothing that you can find in the menu gets imported other than the cheese, if I do reckon right. All of the ingredients are vastly available in any UK supermarket. Why do we have to pay through the nose? You could argue that the asked price reflects the quality of the dish. Actually the quality is not too bad, as I said before, most of them are tasty but that was not the case of the Spanish omelette, or the Carrilleras (cheeks), that in my first visit I found tasteless. The sauce was just coloured water. Carrilleras is one of my favourite dishes, and this failed attempt was very poor. So, let's have a look now at the Spanish omelette, it really needs special attention, A&E attention. It really needs an infusion of life, as it was stale, dry and probably made the day before. Tesco has a better one from the shelf, so you can imagine my reaction. It was criminal, no sugar coating here. So if you say after trying it that you do not like the Spanish omelette, there is nothing wrong with you, you are right. Basically and this is what I really do not like about these so-called Spanish restaurants is the cultural appropriation or should I say misrepresentation of the Spanish cooking tradition or culture in general. I would not mind if they stop using the Spanish language in the menus so they stop conveying a false relationship between the food they offer and anything far related to Spanish food. Just using english and describing the dish is far less misleading and far more honest, you will sell less, that's the catch. So I'm sorry but this is not for me, please go and try yourself, you may enjoy it, do not take me wrong, mine is just an opinion, like anyone's else, an informed one nonetheless. You might be wondering why I went twice, am I a masochist? 😅, no, both were work related occasions. So there might be even more visits in the future.

Lovely little restaurant, tucked out the way. Cosy and very friendly atmosphere. Came along with friends, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Service was quick and welcoming. It was very well recommended.

Really great place for delicious tapas. Loved the Jamon croquettes, patatas bravas and cream catalina. Homemade and so fast and great service. Literally only thing to improve would be to introduce something to stop the chairs scraping loudly against the floor. Besides that it's perfect ⭐

Been here twice in the last couple of months, ordering quite a lot to share. First time was during the day in a busy period, food was fantastic and service was great. Second time was early evening and was a lot quieter. If anything the food wasn't as good, it didn't feel as 'fresh' as the first time. Apart from the paella, that felt made to order both times. Service was still good. I will probably go again but the expectations won't be as high as before.

Hitchin Lavender is a picturesque flower farm that offers stunning views of lavender fields, reminiscent of the beauty of Provence. The main flowering season runs from mid-June to late August, making it the perfect summer destination for a leisurely stroll and photo opportunities. Visitors can also enjoy a shop offering lavender-infused products such as soap and gin. The farm provides an ideal setting for a romantic picnic amidst the fragrant blooms, creating a peaceful and idyllic atmosphere.
What an absolutely lovely afternoon we had with yourselves. Your staff were very nice and very polite. Lots of parking. The different lavenders were lovely to see, smell and pick. The benches strategically placed at the top of the lavender lanes was an excellent resting stop. My only complaint was paying £10 for four cans of coke and £6 for a tea & coffee was a little steep but otherwise, a great time was had by all.

Such a beautifully presented platter of delicious cheese and crackers which we thoroughly enjoyed with our cups of tea! Unfortunately however my partner being a 6’4 when used their loo, bumped his head as they have a low ceiling. Also, my partner had ordered another cup of tea that was served in another table which made him wait longer for his extra hot drink. As we explored in the field, we smelt a wonderful fresh fragrance of Lavender! It did not look as purple anymore as I am aware they were going to be harvested soon when we went on 07.08.25 However, the Sunflower field did not disappoint us as they were in their full bloom and most yellow. Nice day out! We love The Barn! Recommended. Be careful with your head at the loos though.

Visited Hitchin Lavender for the first time yesterday to pick our pumpkins for Halloween. We had a fantastic time. Despite the big crowds the pumpkin patch itself was full of loads of large and undamaged pumpkins, perfect for carving. The decorations were fun and well thought out. There was face painting, games and a clown present for the kids. It very aimed at families and children however me and my fiancée still had a great time as a couple. Both the cafes were busy but the staff were handling the queues quickly and politely, plus the pumpkin spiced latte and Halloween luxury hot chocolate were worth the wait as they were both delicious. I will definitely visit next summer as a result of how good it was for the Halloween season.

Absolutely 💯 beautiful experience. Wonderful atmosphere. Gorgeous place and definitely worth a visit. Our second visit and it’s better than the last. The Weather was hot ☀️ and nice 😊 All staff were nice and friendly. The Lavender Fields was vibrant with colour and the smells were amazing. Food was delicious 😋 and delightful. The lavender ice cream 🍦 was amazing. Lavender lemonade was delicious and very refreshing. Overall we had a fantastic experience. Everyone should visit Hitchin Lavender. I’ve come with my family from Manchester.

Hitchin Lavender is such a beautiful place to visit. The fields are stunning, filled with rows of vibrant lavender that make the perfect setting for a peaceful walk and lovely photos. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, and the scent of lavender everywhere is just amazing. The café is a nice touch too, offering tasty treats and drinks. It’s a wonderful day out for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys nature.

We recently visited Hitchin Lavender Farm and had an absolutely amazing experience! The whole day felt like a perfect escape into nature — beautifully scenic, peaceful, and wonderfully pet-friendly. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning sea of purple stretching across the fields. The aroma of fresh lavender in the air was soothing, and the views were breathtaking — perfect for photos and for simply taking it all in. What made the visit even more special was that we brought our pet along — and they had a blast! Hitchin Lavender is genuinely welcoming to pets, and it showed. One of the biggest highlights was the pet ice cream available on-site. Our furry friend devoured it and couldn’t get enough! It’s such a thoughtful touch for animal lovers. We also tried the lavender ice cream ourselves — and wow! It was creamy, floral, and incredibly refreshing. A truly unique treat that we still talk about. The food options in general were lovely, with plenty of choices for snacks and drinks, and the outdoor seating made it easy to relax and soak up the atmosphere. Before we left, we couldn’t resist browsing the shop. We ended up buying several lavender products — from oils and soaps to beautifully packaged dried lavender. Everything smelled divine and made perfect gifts (and keepsakes for ourselves). Whether you’re coming for a peaceful walk, a family day out, or just to spoil your pet a little, Hitchin Lavender is 100% worth the visit. We left feeling refreshed, happy, and already planning our return next summer. 🌿💜

Hitchin Swimming Centre is a versatile facility that offers both indoor and outdoor pools, making it an ideal destination for swimming regardless of the weather. The center caters to adults with dedicated swim sessions and provides adult swimming lessons for beginners and those looking to improve their skills. Additionally, visitors can take advantage of the well-equipped gym and various sports and activities offered in the studios, including Aerobics, Boxing Fitness, Dance Fitness, HIIT, Group Cycling, and more.
Wow wow wow! What an incredible, heated, 50m outdoor pool. Lovely, traditional, 1930s vintage art deco, accessed through a modern leisure centre (with indoor pool). We booked an early morning lane swim via the everyone active app. The session was for an hour, but there was no rush to leave (apparently we were welcome to stay all morning). We used the indoor changing facilities which were clean, hot showers, and lockers available (£1 refundable). The walk out to the pool is fairly long (up some steps or an accessible ramp), so recommend wearing sliders. There are outdoor changing rooms and lockers in the 1930s building, which is slightly closer to the pool. The pool is heated to around 25° and there were 4 lifeguards on when we visited, constantly fishing leaves etc from the pool on what was a fairly breezy day. Went for a sausage sandwich at the pool cafe after our swim - tasty 😋 On site parking (£1 for 3 hours, refundable at the reception after your swim). Smashing, well organised facility which is well worth a visit.

I’m writing to express my deep disappointment with today’s outdoor swimming session, which I had booked and paid for in advance. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations and raised serious concerns around safety and crowd control. Despite booking a designated time slot, the venue was extremely overcrowded, to the point of being unsafe and completely unsuitable for families. There were numerous instances of teenagers and adults behaving inappropriately—shouting, swearing, and repeatedly jumping into the pool with no apparent supervision or staff intervention. This created a chaotic and intimidating environment, especially for younger children. To make matters worse, a physical altercation broke out between members of a family in the changing rooms, which left my youngest child visibly shaken. This was incredibly distressing and has left us questioning how such incidents are being managed on site. Frankly, it felt as though the session had been opened to the general public with no regard for bookings or capacity limits. This raises the question: why offer a booking system at all if there is no enforcement of numbers or behavior? We left early, thoroughly disappointed and upset, feeling that our money was completely wasted. Sadly, we won’t be returning, and I sincerely hope you review your procedures to prevent other families from having a similarly negative experience.

Fantastic early morning summer solstice swim today. Thank you to all the staff for getting up so early so we could have this great experience in the Lido as the sun came up. The hot coffee and pastry were very welcome too.

Lack of transparent customer service. Sunny day, turned up with kids without booking, full, not a problem. Unable to give me a time would be free. Didn't inform me, only another customer that outdoor pool had closed, moved all into indoor pool and were over full. I've not a problem with this and even though it was a Monday evening, why they hadn't taken the weather into consideration to get more staff on. Can fully appreciate the consumer does not understand the business p&l, rota, risk assessments etc but a lot of revenue turned down. I asked if I had booked in advance would that help, told depends on spaces available and to go online, no help. Struggled to find booking online, told to download an app. Downloaded app and booked a session, was strictly told it would be at that time and not before. Left to get drinks with my girls, my son contacted me saying him and his mate (part of my booking and in town) were allowed in 25 mins early. I know there could have been plenty of people leave or classes finished, but was told couldn't go in early and then allowed in early. Staff should be singing off the same hymn sheet. Finally in, pool rules says no jumping in, plenty of people doing so (including mine) without being told to stop. Boys bring a soft football in to play with, had to tell them to be mindful of others, at the end told we couldn't play with it. Not a problem, removed ball. Checked several signs and couldn't see this as a rule. Inconsistent with rules, I don't mind being told not to do something but must be in line with rules. Went back next day, sunny weather, outside pool open later with staff, but only for those wishing to swim lengths. A great improvement from the day before to manage customer service, safety and revenue. Made sense this day to do that, was only told outdoors was for length swimming when got to it though. Good to have been told, but customer service as a whole could be improved like being told at reception, could have been proactive to manager customer expectation earlier on. Will go back as customer service wasn't terrible, just disappointing with lack of consistent, transparent and proactive customer service from staff as a collective team.

This is the second time in this center and both time was really disappointing. I came with my brother and my little boy who was really excited to be in the pool, but because we came from London after school on a Monday we arrived at 17:30 and even though the website says it closes at 10 pm we were told to get out at 18:00. So we paid for only half an hour. Very disappointed to say the least, that was the last time we visited this center. The website should be more clear
Alexandra G — Google review
While it’s a lovely lido, I'm going to have to give it one star as there is no excuse for shutting the lido at 6pm, which means people will start being harassed to get out at about 5:50pm (this by the way is in no way reflected on their website or Google page, which say they close at 10:00pm). On a Friday afternoon with 30 degrees, this just doesn’t make any sense, sorry. More reasonable working hours, like until 8pm at least in the summer, would make this place more accessible.
Marco V — Google review
Not happy. We travelled for an hour to visit this Lido. We were told we only have have an hour to swim. Hour to change clothes, swim and change back and leave. It's +28 outside. I travelled for an hour to just have one hour in the water? There is cafe and playground but no time to use any of that because with kids 1 hour was done very fast. The pool was crowded, dirty , toilets and changing rooms were dirty, water dirty. They should make slots at least 1.5h long.
Alesya A — Google review
Summer is here, and I love it. Enjoying the pool is very clean. The facilities are very attentive and the staff is very attentive. The only bad thing is that they should not let people with skin problems in. I've seen too many people with fungus on their legs. They should restrict entry for those with those problems.

Nestled in Hitchin, Club 85 is a vibrant grassroots music venue that offers an eclectic mix of live performances and DJ sets. This intimate space has hosted a variety of acts, from renowned bands like Enter Shikari to tribute groups such as Noasis and The Smyths. With its welcoming atmosphere, the venue ensures that every event is handled with care, especially during challenging times.
Such an awesome venue. Nestled in Hitchin a thriving awesome community of music fans all in live with Bob Marden and the club85 team. Putting on shows for decades now with a great regular crowd and a brilliant turnout for local and visiting bands. Club 85 is the peak of what a music and arts venue should be. Supporting all music from every genre but especially Great for a rock and metal crowd. Come support the club. Don't let it disappear like so many contemporary venues. It deserves better than that.

This is a strange and unusual venue. But as you would expect the club itself is entertaining and welcoming. Once the music and entertainment starts though you find yourself enjoying it. The outside area is a bit cramped, but navigable. The staff are helpful and good to chat with. Good.

This small intimate music venue in Hitchin is a fabulous place to see live music. I have been several times now and it always delivers. Hope it keeps open.

My first time at club 85 was way more than I expected for just a tenner at the door. The Venue looks tiny from the outside but as soon as you walk up the stairs and enter the double doors you are all of a sudden in a room with around 150 people inside with plenty more room The music they were playing were top notch, multiple different bands were playing from around 7pm to around midnight, they were all great and performed like legit rockstars. The speakers they used for the stage were good quality and the stage lights were flashing multiple colours, smoke machine was cool too The drinks were cold and reasonably priced can't go wrong with a few pints of beer listening to the stage. Bar staff were quick to serve and were very sociable. The pub was very clean and the tables were being wiped down everything one was not attended There is a smoking friendly area, thank the lord, outside the pub were cigarette ashtrays are provided All in all an arounder of a good pub all the staff from the security, bar staff and landlord did a fantastic job and obviously have been doing so for a long time. Will definitely be coming back there purchasing more tickets for more of their live music, honestly it's ten ten, I'm going to drag everyone I know to come with me next time

Have been coming here my whole life, the place still has a little life left in it but is not the bussling town centre it used to be. Still has everything you'd need tho. Cheap shops, boots, super drugs etc. food shopping from Iceland. Lots of coffee places. Decent place to pop to if you need a quick shop and a coffee

The local council will tell you it's a great place to shop, but it's not. Shop's are closing all the time, even charity shops can't afford the rent and rates. What shops there are like pound land and home bargains, are putting prices up to compete with the likes of Tesco who made over 2 billion in profit last year. Letchworth is not a good place to shop or live!

I'm still a fan of this type of indoor market, as there seems to be less and less of them around these days. This one is pretty big, and it's quite busy too, although not anywhere near as busy as it once used to be. Rather than stalls, most traders have units which can be classed as shops in their own right. Unfortunately, there are quite a few vacant units within the building. There's a good variety of places to eat, as well as many shops, including a fantastic grocery shop, where you can find all kinds of fruit and veg which you would struggle to find anywhere else in the local area. Best of all, the prices are very good in this particular grocery shop. The market has lots of places to sit, as well as customer toilets and a car park (which has lift access). Worth visiting, as there are lots of bargains to be found and best of all, cash is still widely accepted here 🙂👍.

Having ordered a few times and only having a couple of incorrect orders arrive that have quickly been rectified, I was extremely disappointed to place an order of cheesey chips to have a delivery of chips coated in frozen cubes of cheese (see attached pic). When I phoned to complain, the restaurant tried to blame it on the delivery driver. When I asked if the delivery driver cooked the food, they offered to send a new item. Thoroughly disappointed to be so let down by a local favourite.

Walked in and seated straight away, service was excellent and the food was amazing. Would definitely come again!

Popped in for the lunch special, really lovely and great value. The beef massaman curry and holy basil chicken were full of flavour and beautifully cooked. Friendly, attentive service made the whole experience even better.

In town for work and stumbled upon this place. Was able to sit in without a reservation. I'm a huge fan of Thai food and this place did not disappoint. Had the Thai dumpling and Drunken noodles, both with delicious 😋 just the right amount of heat. Will definitely recommend and come again when in town.

Little Monkey = Little Gem. Everything was lovely. Wonderful Thai flavours, good portions combined with a buzzy atmosphere. First time here, but we'll definitely be back .

Very yummy authentic thai food :) Good price! Interesting Big menu! Not a typical thai menu. Highlights- prawn toast was very good! I would also recommend “the flavour of BKK” ! 10/10

Discovered this one afternoon for lunch some time ago and vowed to return as the food is delicious and very authentic. I moved to Hitchin last year for a very short amount of time which made me extremely happy as was very close to this lovely little restaurant. Takeaway is just as nice, but i do prefer to sit in, but can get booked up very quickly. Have recently had amazing pineapple rice in a restaurant in Portugal and will now be trying it in LM on my next visit, lovely staff as well ขอบคุณ 🙂

Tapas restaurant
Spanish restaurant
Los Reyes Tapas Restaurant is a vibrant and relaxed eatery located in the heart of Hitchin. Embracing the essence of Spain, this restaurant prides itself on sourcing authentic ingredients to create a diverse selection of tantalizing tapas. From mojama with caperberries and almonds to truffled patatas with green harissa alioli, the menu offers an array of enticing options.
Reserved a table on Saturday night was greeted by jasmine and taken to our lovely window table .we started with cava then onto tapas manchego with almonds then jamon iberico tomato salad croquettas garlic prawns patatas bravas ,lamb rump, then a glass of godello .blanco and a glass of el brindis .jasmine was superb as was the food and atmosphere. Yes the food is a bit pricey but it's very good and tasty will go for a special treat .thankyou los reyes great evening.

Very good tapas great flavours, tbh the portions were small for the price, example the Chipirones were £14 and there were about 12 on plate! See the picture! La Luna tapas plate is about same price and 3 times the size!. The short rib was nice but again small portion for the cost. Where was the 🐙 never been to a tapas restaurant that didn't have Octopus? Putting this aside it was great food spoilt by the small portions.

Visited on a Sunday, had booked a table beforehand. It wasn't too busy, which I appreciated. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant and its facilities is very clean. There are baby changing facilities available (as seen on the photos). It was our first visit to the restaurant and we are overall happy as the food was very good and tasty, but is quite overpriced for the potion sizes (for example we paid £12 for the goat cheese, yet it was literally six bites). The lady who served us was pleasant and helpful (we asked her for a family photo and she was very willing to do it), so I was happy to leave the 10% service charge that is added to the bill (see photo attached). Overall, I would say this is a nice place for a date (i.e. if you're trying to impress someone) or a special occasion celebration, but not for a "lets just grab a bite to eat somewhere" situation, as you really would need to spend a small fortune to feel fully fed here (which I appreciate is a tapas restaurant, so portions aren't likely to be huge, but still - they felt tiny, even for tapas in my opinion). I am unlikely to return for a visit, but do not mind having visited this one time - that is the best way I can sum up my experience at Los Reyes.

Absolutely ridiculously priced! The atmosphere was great and the restaurant is clean. The service was horrible. The waitress could not properly explain how the tapas option worked which was quite frustrating as it was our first visit to the restaurant. The food is good, but is greatly overpriced. When we asked for some recommendations, the waitress recommended the most expensive items on the menu, which left us feeling underwhelmed. The one recommended dish, the Jamon Iberico, a basic charcuterie board was so crazily priced for what we received it left us speechless. It was almost as if they went to Aldi and picked out their cheapest meats and added some stale, inedible bread sticks and charged us £20. We would not have minded, if it was not for the terrible, underwhelming food. You would think that as it is a tapas restaurant, the portions would be enough to feed a few people, however the portions are so small, and so highly priced it is not even enough for one person. It is a nice restaurant for a couple, but definitely not suitable for a group gathering or family dinner.

Very impressed! We turned up without a booking on a Saturday evening, and got a warm welcome. Food is great, particularly the fried chillies (guindillas) and the croquetas with cheese and jalapeño. Nice chilled vibe and friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

Given we hadn't booked and it was clearly a busy evening these lovely people managed to seat us anyway and boy are we glad they did. We love tapas and these guys really know how to do it well. We arent often out in Hitchin but the quality of the food, the wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere will likely have us back here sooner than expected. Thank you for a wonderful time.

I have been patiently waiting for the previous review to pop up. I was eating at Los Reyas on Saturday and had the most exquisite meal with incredible service. I however had to listen to the most vial customers talking to the amazing staff in the most disrespectful and disgusting way. I would urge anyone looking at these reviews to maybe give the one before mine a skip. I am so happy you will never be going back. You do not deserve to eat at such a wonderful establishment. You should learn some manners! Anyway here are some pics of the stunning food!

Pub
Nestled in the heart of Hitchin, The Old George is a charming pub with roots tracing back to the fifteenth century. This beloved establishment has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike, offering mouthwatering Sunday roasts and an impressive selection of beers and ales. It's not just about great food; The Old George welcomes dog walkers and cyclists, making it an ideal pit stop after exploring the scenic surroundings.
We came here for our group Christmas party and i was very impressed with the service. Having pre ordered the food came quickly and was very delicious. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and has 2 areas with a bar in each. The Christmas menu had lots of options.

First visit to TOG for a friend’s birthday roast. We had booked a table in advance, and two of us arrived a little early. We were promptly shown to our table, and our initial drinks order was taken efficiently, which was a good start. The rest of the party arrived about 5–10 minutes later, and after another 10 minutes or so, I had to approach the bar to ask whether we should place our drinks and food orders there or if someone would come to the table — at this point, the venue was not particularly busy. A staff member then came over to take our orders. Among the drinks, a mojito was ordered, but while the other (soft) drinks arrived promptly, there was no sign of the cocktail. When my friend asked about it, she was told it was on the way. A few minutes later, another waitress came over to apologise that they were out of Bacardi and the mojito couldn’t be made, so an alternative drink was ordered. From the time we placed the food order, it took approximately 40–45 minutes for the meals to arrive. Unfortunately, one order was mixed up — my friend had ordered the brisket roast, but instead, the brisket starter arrived alongside the mains. There had been no indication of confusion when the order was initially taken. When we inquired how long it would take for the correct brisket roast to come out (given the long wait already), the waitress said she would need to check with the kitchen as they had other large tables to serve. At that point, my friend decided not to reorder, and the brisket starter was removed from the bill. The roast chicken, which several others ordered, looked pale and lacked the appearance of a traditional roast. Overall, I would describe the roast dishes as quite simple, lacking in flavor, and underwhelming — especially given the £22 price point. That said, one member of the party had the fish and chips, which was well received and enjoyed. Once the food was served, no one checked in to ask if everything was satisfactory, and only when the plates were being cleared did my friend express her dissatisfaction with the largely untouched roast. When the bill arrived, we felt it was unfair to pay £22 for a dish where only two potatoes were eaten, so we asked for a discount, and they offered to remove 50% from that item. We also requested the discretionary service charge be removed, but the waitress questioned why — as someone who worked in hospitality for over a decade, I found this surprising, as discretionary service charges are optional and, in this case, we had already expressed our disappointment with both the food and service. The waitress’s explanation that they were busy with other large tables (parties of 5 and 7) did not seem like a sufficient justification, as a venue should staff appropriately or limit bookings if the team on shift (both FOH and BOH) cannot manage the volume. On a positive note, the interior of the pub is cosy and the waitresses were friendly — no one was rude — but overall, the experience was disappointing, with several service and food issues that overshadowed the occasion.

Very decent food and good portions. Our big group with kids and dog and different dietary. Everyone are happy about the food! We ll be back.

Poor service. Left waiting to order food until approached the bar after drinks had been delivered. Food very basic and, steak was too tough to eat. No apology offered, just "I'll let the kitchen know"

Lovely old building, staff were friendly and there's plenty of space. They were doing a special BBQ event so the normal food was unavailable, so on that basis I won't score the food. We'll be back!

It’s been almost a year since we ate here I’m very happy to see the food is still outstanding. Very friendly & attentive staff, still dog friendly, we used to bring our Westie here and we brought our new puppy Reggie today. I think he was pretty impressed with the pub too.

We reserved a table for six, but the service was disappointingly slow. When the mains finally arrived, only five were served, one meal never came, and no apology or explanation was offered. It completely spoiled the experience, as one of us didn’t get to eat. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place based on our visit.
Leonidas S — Google review
A lovely pub with pleasant staff. Bought drinks and sat outside. It was a sunny autumnal day. Most people preferred the outside space. All tables were 2 metre apart and it was good to see everyone obeying the 2m rule. Ordered Beer battered fish served with pub chips, tartare sauce and crushed peas. It was very tasty. However, the homemade shawarma, marinated Lamb, meditatenean salad and a tzatziki dip with fries was a disappointment. It looked and tasted very dry with little or no sauce. We told the waitress, she apologised and didn't have much to say. In as much that the meal was bellow par, I will visit the pug again but will ensure to avoid the home made shawarma.
