The Parola Armour Museum, located in the small town of Parola near Hameenlinna, Finland, is a top attraction for history enthusiasts. The museum boasts an extensive collection of over 50 tanks and military vehicles from different periods in the 20th century. As a volunteer at a tank museum in New York and a writer for the Tank Encyclopedia, I knew I had to visit this museum when I could. I finally did, and it did not disappoint. Lots of extremely rare armor, great displays, and functional armor.
My guide, Niko, was very knowledgeable and we spoke well over an hour while looking at the exhibits.

The museum is very nice, they got AA's, APC's, tanks... So many vehicles. You can even climb some tanks. Climbing on them was an awesome experience.

A well-organized and informative museum for anyone interested in military history and technology.
I especially enjoyed the armoured train on display, that is rarely seen in exhibits.

Located about 110 km north of Helsinki in Hattula, the Parola Armour Museum offers an extensive collection of roughly 70 tanks, 40 anti‑tank weapons, plus a full armoured train, largely unique within Europe. The only surviving BT‑42 assault gun, one of only two T‑50 light tanks left globally, and the only known BA‑10 armoured car in existence can be seen here.
The indoor exhibition halls cover Finnish post‑WWI armoured unit origins, WW2 conflicts, Cold War and modern developments, with gear, medals, uniforms, and personal stories of Finnish service members. The outdoor hillside exhibits are protected by shell shelters and display retired tanks in realistic condition—some rusted, others restored.
Recommended visit duration: 1.5 to 3 hours to explore indoor halls, outdoor exhibits, café, and shop.
Fantastic museum! Saw many amazing vehicles that are uncommon to see elsewhere. Definitely worth visiting. Includes a lot of Finnish history of well. 🇫🇮 Very interesting!
Parola Armour Museum shows real tanks, cannons, and army vehicles from WWII and modern age. You can try a cannon simulator that lets you aim and “fire” like in real training. A big highlight is the armored train, which is rare and almost complete, used in continuation war. The museum also has the only BT-42 tank left in the world. Cafe is also quite nice but don’t expect much from it ;)
Hint: get a combined ticket with other local museums - it is 25 EUR but you get 4 museums to go.
It was a very pleasant surprise for me to see how big the place is and how much you have to see.
The museum is big and you can easily spent a lots of time until you see all the tanks.
The place is full of history and what is awesome is the fact that you can actually climb on two tanks, I found that a unique experience, to actually walk on top of a tank.
When I visited the museum they had the Tiger II in there, a quite impressive a beautiful machine.
I recommend the museum with all my heart, it's a beautiful place.
P.S. They have even a simulator for artillery, you can shoot tanks (of course virtual) with an real piece of artillery.

We did a Scandinavia trip this summer and we finished in Finland. My son begged me to come here and it was only an hour outside of Helsinki by train.
We actually stopped in at Hameenlinna and toured a few museums there before taking an Uber to this museum.
Long story short, it was worth the trip. So many exhibits and some very good history to read about. Several exhibits that the kids can get inside and move around on too so it was super cool. Very reasonably priced too.
Would definitely do it again if/when we ever make our way back!

A charming little medieval castle with beautiful lake views. The exhibitions are interesting, and it gets better the higher up you go. The castle can also be rented as an event venue and maybe even better as a venue than a museum. You can also try armors and medieval peasant outfits which is super fun!
This is not my favourite castle in Finland but it is worth visiting at least once. It’s quite big so reserve at least couple of hours to check it properly. Info guide is available in English also. There are some tours around the castle, you can join them with no extra cost, but make sure to check the time on the website ahead of your visit. Free entry with the museum card
The castle itself is quite impressive from the outside, but inside it feels rather empty and lacks many exhibits. Those that are on display are not necessarily related to the castle’s history. The real highlight is the castle building itself, with its fascinating architecture and the many little passages that make it fun to explore.
One drawback is that English signage is missing in some areas, which can make it difficult for international visitors. The surroundings, however, are beautiful – especially the lake – and once the park renovation is completed, the setting will be even more enjoyable.
Overall, it’s worth a visit, especially if combined with the nearby military museum and the old prison.
Häme Castle is a well-maintained historical site with impressive architecture. While the structure itself is in good condition, there’s little original interior or furniture left, which makes it feel somewhat empty. Still, it's an interesting visit for those curious about Finnish history and medieval castles.

The castle and surrounding area is a very lovely place to visit, especially, during the medieval fair. It takes place every June and attracts thousands of likeminded people. You may not only appear as a kont or a knight but also buy local crafts and even rent a costume.
There are medieval fights, horse racing, archery and other tournaments happening.
Besides, the selection of foods is amazing! You may also grad a local brew, sahti, but be careful 😅
P.s. if you are going to museums - but a combined ticket!

Interesting museum, but everything is from 90s, would have been nice to see something older.
Buy a combo ticket with castle and armour museum if visiting all three, Costs 19 Eur. This was a different experience for me. Some of the procedures and exhibits reiterate how good it is to be on the right side of law. Would recommend to visit if close by Hameenlinna.

The prison museum is both calm and fascinating. Walking through the old cells gives a real sense of the conditions inmates once faced, those do not seem too harsh. The exhibits are well done and thought-provoking.
Probably, my most favorite museum in Hämeenlinna!
Buy a combo ticket that includes military museum, castle and prison museum. We first visited the castle, then the prison museum which is basically accross the castle ticket booking area. Next, we walked a little bit and entered the military museum. All these places are highly recommended. We were four people and it took almost 7 hours to complete. Not everything was written in English so we were quick to skip some of the things we did not understand the importance. You can take pictures and video without any restrictions. Just a quick tip, there is a nature reserve just 9 kms away from the castle. We had a picnic by the lake and surrounded by trees.
Disturbing atmosphere and exhibits and history, would not recommend coming here with children, though there were a lot of kids here. Interesting to read, to see how it was functioning, and how people served here. Come and visit if you came for the castle. Free admission with the museum card
Very interesting museum - I believe that most interesting from all three accessible in Haemenlina. Three levels of former prison cells, corridors and other rooms with brief history information about prison, prisoners and their day-to-day living conditions. I wholehartly recommend it. To be honest, the best solution is common ticket, which may be bought for all of three museums for significantly reduced price in comparison to single tickets.

Very interesting, even for someone who isn't really interested in military matters. The history of Finland was described wonderfully. However, the translations into English seemed to stop on the second floor! Very friendly lady at reception.

Can be interesting for that who knows or is interested in story of swastika in Finland - it used since 1920 in Suomi (Army, Navy, Air Force) and is not "German idea". This is the real history of Finland and just respect it!

Chicken salad smothered in three different dressings. The chicken is of poor and salty quality. The customer service is by far the worst I’ve come across around Hämeenlinna in a long time. Others in the party had a jalopeno burger, wings and cheeseburger. None were anything to go back. Would avoid. The salad has also changed from the past, so perhaps a new owner?

For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Hämeenlinna Theater, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Birthplace of Jean Sibelius / Hämeenlinna City Museum. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nice museum, consist of two buildings. With the museum card - free entrance.
We didn’t like the current temporary exhibition, so didn’t take any pictures of it. It left quite bad aftertaste and ruined the experience, that’s why 3 stars only. But permanent exhibition in the main building was good, even though also a bit dark. But worth checking out!
They have small parking, but near is lot more, though it's not free. Small galleria beautiful building.
Must see, if you visit Hämeenlinna.
The museum itself is quite small and honestly a bit unremarkable. There wasn’t much to really catch my interest beyond a few paintings. I found the Jukka Korkeila exhibition particularly disturbing—not really my taste and not something I’d recommend if you prefer more traditional or uplifting art. Overall, it’s an okay stop if you’re already in Hämeenlinna, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.
A diversely curated collection in the main building. We really enjoyed it and had the chance to discuss the artworks with the kids. Display selection seems also well thought of and made sense to me. It is true that it will require a bit more than 2 hours to visit all the rooms, especially if you choose to also visit the more classic contemporary art collection building (neo- and post-Impressionistic works etc.).

A nice local museum in two buildings. The main one has frescos by Gallen Kallela and featured an exhibition of Rudolf Koivu - good for Christmas. The satellite building has an exhibition of good Finnish landscape art.
There is a a small car park between the buildings but no cafe that I could see. Friendly and helpful staff, free lockers and coat hanging facilities. Good toilets!

Some marvelous town history of Hameenlinna, video stories, artifacts and some modern art upstairs.
A real gem in the centre of Hämeenlinna, great large screen film showing the history of the town, and upstairs currently a "swinging 60's" exhibition, everything well displayed and presented, staff very knowledgeable.
Contained absolutely nothing. Only a short film of the later history of Hameenlinna. The one star is for the clothes I could try on and take photos. It should be half a star. There were no artifacts of the old town - everything is in storage???!!
Fun little museum, but not much to see. Exhibit texts are predominantly only in Finnish. I'd only recommend with Museokortti.
Definitely visit if you are in town. There is a great video available in English as well. The museum is free and has a very cute gift shop.
The staff was very friendly. Interesting variety of books in the shop. Upstairs lobby had a very nice table group where to stop and rest for a while.

Interesting but quite small. The Sibelius House is worth a visit if you’re interested in the composer’s early life, but be aware it’s a very small museum with only a few original items belonging to Sibelius himself. Most of the displays are period furnishings rather than personal artifacts. Still, it’s nice to see the house where he was born, and the staff were friendly and informative. A short but pleasant stop for classical music fans.

This is 6-7 minutes walk on foot from Sibelius' birthplace.

Last werkend we celebrated our wedding at viinti. We we‘re so flashed! The menue was perfect. All the tastes and the textures were so surprising but harmonic. The atmosphere at the restaurant was also very lovely! They really looked after our diets and wishes!

I tried Vintti seven course menu and it was very pleasant experience. Restaurant has a nice industrial decor and helpful staff. Theme of the food seemed to revolve around local ingredients (mostly) which I found nice. What could be improved was wine pairing.
It is a hidden place, but once you find it, you'll get an opportunity to enjoy a lovely atmosphere, fine food and a plesant service. Vegan dishes were perfect 😃 Be sure to check in out.

I really enjoy this Nepalese eatery in the heart of the city, which offers ample seating. Their lunch buffet is diverse and changes daily on weekdays, including dishes like chicken, fish/prawn, beef/lamb, and vegetable curry. Additionally, they serve individual servings of warm naan bread at each table alongside options like rice and noodles/chowmein.

It was ok. The princes are the same in many other Nepalese restaurants in Finland and the food was ok. Nothing "extraordinary", but fine. It was clean and the music was not too loud.
Think twice or thrice before you go to this 'Ravintola Siddharta' if you are from an Asian background, specially if you are going for buffet.
I visited this restaurant buffet twice, and both times I was left utterly disappointed. The first time, I thought maybe it was just a mistake or a one-time issue, but after my second visit, I realized this is a consistent pattern.
As an Asian customer, I felt completely neglected. It became painfully obvious that this restaurant does not care about its Asian patrons. The staff seems only interested in taking your money and offering the bare minimum in terms of service. The food was not filling at all, with many trays empty for long periods, and some dishes were simply missing altogether. It was frustrating and completely unacceptable.
The most disappointing part was the lack of attention to customers. When we asked for refills or needed assistance, we were met with indifference. This was not just a bad experience – it was clear to me that the treatment was different because of my ethnicity. It felt like they only served Asian customers minimally, as if we weren’t a priority.
For a buffet, I expected better service and food quality. Sadly, I will not be returning to this place, and I do not recommend it to any Asian living in Finland, especially if you value good service and respect as a customer.
If you are on the highway from Helsinki to Tampere, this is nice place to break for lunch/ dinner. Nice and clean place, center of the city. A little difficult to get Parking place. Food was tasty, portions were optimal sized, could be a little bigger. Customize your spice levels when ordering, or else it turns a bit spicy. Good number of options to choose from.
We went couple of times, to be honest the staff is wonderful and kind, the meal is so tasty and the menu is plenty of choices (including vegan options). We do really recommend this ravintola.

The lunch buffet has a huge variety including a dish of each - chicken, fish/prawn, beef/lamb dish and vegetable curry ( the options/ recipes keep changing daily on the weekdays). Also includes drinks like chilled mango lassi ♡, coffee and milk tea( chai). In addition to rice and noodles/chowmein in the buffet, they serve individual warm naan bread servings on the table. Totally worth the money (10/11 euro per head). Edit: in summers they have aircoditioning too inside. It's quite a comfortable restaurant with amazing variety

Holy Cross Church is a stunning Gothic-style church dating back to the early 1300s, located in a walled churchyard. Went here with my mum, brother and grandparents in the summer of 2021. My grandparents got in the line a bit too late and didn't make it to the tour (I think the limit was either 20 or 30 people in 2021). Luckily the tour guide allowed my mum, my brother and I to swap spots with them. The church was beautiful from what we could see, and my grandparents loved the tour. And we loved the gift shop! The understanding tour guide helped us have a special last day trip together. We are very grateful. 10/10

Very nice environment, best lookout view in Finland, especially when there are some clouds in the sky. Very easy hiking, maybe 5 minutes to hike and then Voila you are in the position to enjoy the scenery landscape.
It also has a tower which i think in summer is open for the visitors and also is free.
Also a good cafe besides the view point which has good coffees and cakes.
Nice area with some really beatiful views, the only problem is that it's not really a nature preserve park: It's an area with scattered sights connected by common roads. It's not very comfortable to walk where cars drive.

You have easy car access to the main attractions ( some require very little walking to reach), with parking spots scattered nearby.

Took a very long time to get my food and the food was good but I saw someone say that they use spoiled ingredients and on one of my pizza slices it had only 1 olive and chairs aren't very comfortable and the drinks are very expensive and the payment machine was broken And also took the bottle I paid for and even when I said "wait!" Went for charging and toilet break, quite many fast charging and well organised layout. Could have been more indication signs though.
What is wrong with the cashier? I mean.. hello? So we 3 of us were there for the buffet and the other two person with me don’t speak English and one of them was trynna order for three and said “three” but I guess the cashier didn’t hear or understand he said “what?” and then I told him to make it three and when the we were trying to pay we were quiet confused abt it and couldn’t find the tapping spot for a bit and then the cashier helped to tap it but then he didn’t even return the card on the hand he just tapped and left it to drop.. I mean I get that anyone can have bad days going on but that kinda attitude is not what a costumer prefers. Ik it might sound as not a big deal but as was there it didn’t seem right to me. The food was just fine.
We tried to have lunch here, but the cashier decided not to sell us lunch, according to him the time for lunch has ended for us. The customers after us were sold lunch normally. There was plenty of food in the buffet, So what was the reason? Hopefully ABC Tirriö does not waste all that food, in stead of selling it to the customers?! Our money was not good enough, or the employee did not care? Would be nice to know.
Please select better employees and improve the service. There are ABC's all around Finland. We do not have to stop to this one anymore. Once was enough. Thumbs down.
