Garden
The Japanese Garden is a tranquil oasis located on Margaret Island, surrounded by the Danube. Established in the 1970s, it features lush greenery, meandering walkways, and a picturesque koi pond adorned with lotus blossoms. Visitors can experience a blend of Japanese and Hungarian cultures while strolling through this serene space. The garden also boasts a Musical Fountain that plays a medieval Hungarian tune composed specifically for it.
The Japanese Garden on Margaret Island is such a peaceful little spot. It’s not huge, but that’s part of the charm—it feels cozy and calm. The pond with the koi and lotus is super pretty, and the whole area is perfect for just wandering around or sitting and soaking up the peaceful vibe. Great place for a quiet break if you’re already exploring the island. Loved how chill it was.
Laurence H — Google review
Very nice garden not far from the city, well maintained, water fountain with music is quite entertaining, popular English songs are played, rose garden is beautiful, few good and drinks vendors, no admission fees, need few hours to cover the whole garden.
Rami — Google review
Nice little garden with great atmosphere. Worth a visit when you on walk on Margret Island. Additionally, there is a bus stop right next to the garden, making it quite accessible.
Michal S — Google review
Nice scenic Japanese garden, ideal for relaxing after a busy day. Was quiet when visited as was in November. I would highly recommend a visit if In the area
Rob Y — Google review
Tucked away on Margaret Island, it’s like walking into a dream that whispers softly in cherry blossom tones. As a romantic, I found it less a destination and more a tender pause — a breath between city and sky. The koi pond reflects more than trees; it mirrors feelings we often keep folded inside. The little red bridge is the kind of place you’d want to kiss someone slow, like you have all the time in the world. You won’t find grand declarations here — just subtle grace: the way bamboo leans, the way water flows over stone. It’s a place where love doesn’t need words, where silence speaks fluently. Bring someone you want to hold hands with and not say much. Or come alone, with a book of poems and a heart that still listens. It’s not just beautiful — it’s beautifully quiet. And in that quiet, something timeless happens.
Galina C — Google review
It's a beautiful walk until you reach the Japanese garden, a beautiful natural park, with many leafy trees, shaded areas, with great gaps for the sun to pass through, the sound of birds, people having picnics, or simply sunbathing, a very enjoyable experience.
Bruna C — Google review
It was a truly magical time, the lights and colours were enchanting, and the atmosphere felt like a gentle embrace, calm and soothing, a little haven for the soul.
Ferenc K — Google review
The perfect little peaceful spot everyone wishes they had in their backyard, but few can afford. Luckily, this park is free, peaceful, and perfect all year round. I can’t really recommend it—after all, its charm lies in the solitude.

The Urban Transport Museum offers a fascinating journey through the history of public transportation in Hungarian cities. With over 60 renovated vehicles on display, visitors can explore the evolution of urban transport infrastructure. The museum features five open-air exhibition areas where guests can board and examine various modes of transportation. While descriptions are only available in Hungarian, it's a perfect destination for a short trip, especially for families with children who can enjoy interacting with the exhibits.
A surprisingly large museum on the history of public transport in Budapest. The museum is divided into 3 areas: In the first area, you can get important information about the development of public transport in Budapest from information panels and many photos, in both English and Hungarian. In the second area, you will find many original vehicles. The vehicles are in great condition, and you can even board some of them. In the outdoor area, there are more vehicles, some of which are not in the best condition due to weather conditions. The museum is within walking distance of the Szentendre train station (about a 5-minute walk). Please note: The museum only accepts cash (Forint)!
Sebastian H — Google review
Very interesting place. It explains the history of public transportation in Hungary, mainly in the Budapest area. There are old vehicles in display. If you are interested in history, vehicles and engineering, it is definitely a place to visit.
Jason P — Google review
Very large museum with a variety of trains. Display boards had all information translated to English too for any tourists. Very empty at the time of visiting with only 2 or 3 other groups of people present. Along with the trains was a large amount of history of transport in Hungary and a collection of buses. It is sad to see many of the trains rusting with failing paint but if the money is not there, the museum is not to blame.
Jasper M — Google review
An old wish of the experts of Budapest Transport Limited came true when, at the time of the modernisation of the Szentendre suburban railway line in 1991 - 92, a permanent exhibition could be opened in one of the reconstructed covered depots displaying the transport history of the capital and its neighbourhood. The depot was built in 1914, during the electrification of the suburban railway line, but by the beginning of the 1990"s it became unsuitable for the storage and maintenance of trains with big passenger carrying capacity. The museum consisting of five exhibition rooms and two display halls opened on July 14, 1992. The theme of the first room is the history of public transport in Budapest, presenting the legal predecessors of the company as well as the lines and vehicles operated by them. In the second room the visitors can get information about the public transport of other cities (such as Debrecen, Miskolc, Szeged and Szombathely). In the third room the technological relics of public transport infrastructure, track and catenary construction, maintenance and power supply are demonstrated. The fourth room exhibits the tools of the original forge that was linked with the old covered depot in Szentendre. The fifth room focuses on the history of bus and tram transport in Budapest. The visitors can find documents and photos, various tickets and vehicle spare parts here. In the hall and the yard of the museum tram and suburban railway cars, buses and trolley buses are standing. It can be an exciting experience for the children that they can get on the exhibited vehicles.
Roja S — Google review
For a short trip on Saturday it is perfect for children and for 1~ 1.5 hours to spend. Many vehicles are open and you can go to see the interior. Not all possibilities are exhausted, it ( the collection) could be greater. Surprise: the photo ticket is more expensive than the tickets for adults. Unfortunately descriptions only in Hungarian.
László F — Google review
They told us to leave at 16.25, when we were viewing the last information rooms, even though they close at 17.00, which is clearly written on their website, and also at the entrance sign.

Despite limited resources this is a great collection, some truly rare gems - kids can enjoy getting on most vehicles and even ringing bells!

The Christmas Museum in Szentendre, Hungary is a delightful place that transports visitors back to the enchanting memories of childhood Christmases. The museum boasts a palatial kitsch atmosphere that exudes warmth and nostalgia. Visitors can find an extensive collection of old ornaments and Christmas decorations, many of which are available for purchase. The dedication of the sales staff to preserving the holiday spirit is evident throughout the week, making it feel like Christmas all year round.
Best place dedicated to Christmas, I have ever seen. Hands down!!
Konstantinos B — Google review
Every day is Christmas if you're brave enough, right? Lovely shop with everything you could think of. A really nice touch were old decorations displayed in a seperate room. Really rolls back the years.
Karlo Č — Google review
When I entered at once I've been back to my childhood Xmas seasons! Wonderful to feel Xmas during summer, but I think here is Xmas whole year! Who likes the "palatial kitsch" it can be found, but I mean in good way! I loved that as I loved to be recognised those ornaments and Xmas decorations as we had at home. Amazingly place and really felt the salesman and saleswoman's dedication to holiday seasons as Xmas in weekdays as well. Thanks for these beautiful experiences.

Must visit. The whole szentenrdre is a beautiful city and now this has converted into the tourist city. In all the other beautiful and attractive shops This is the most beautiful Christmas shop I have ever seen. All the things are well managed.

One of the most amazing Christmas collections I have ever seen. We visited this museum during our last trip to Szentendre Hungary. The town itself is quite mesmerizing. And on top of it we went to this museum. It depicts the history and old ornaments, collections for Christmas. You can even buy the stuff you wish to and carry back. Must visit if you are in Szentendre 👍👌

The Marzipan Museum, located in the charming town of Szentendre along the Danube River in Hungary, is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. The museum showcases intricate marzipan figurines on its first floor, including sculptures depicting scenes from Disney films and famous buildings. Founded by Matyas Szamos, the museum offers insight into the world of confectionery and is a worthwhile visit while exploring Szentendre.
1 | Traditional confectionery with historical interior, which includes a marzipan museum. 2 | The menu includes ice cream and a wide selection of different cakes. The price of most of them is between 1100 Ft and 1300 Ft. For some reason, there is an extra charge of 100 Ft for eating at the table. I had a good Sachr with which whipped cream was served separately in a small bowl. 3 | It is possible to pay by card. 4 | There are around 10 tables in the patisserie, there is plenty of seating. The interior resembles a traditional patisserie. 5 | I found it a bit strange that the toilets on the first floor are paid and located behind the turnstile.
Petr N — Google review
I was amazed by what can be done with marzipan. The artistry is incredible. I liked that it says who created each piece and how many hours were spent on it. The price is 9,000 forints, and 30,000 with a guided tour – a fair price. It's a shame there isn't a workshop for children.
Ziv T — Google review
Amazing little shop with a wide variety of Marzipan. This was the first time I had a marzipan and it was amazing. They have wide variety of pure marzipan with flavors and a lot with chocolates, but my favorites was the pure almond marzipan. Definitely a unique stop for me. Just wish I could order more online. Definitely a must go place if you stop in this cute little town.
Anand — Google review
Very nice marzipan museum. Ground floor is shop, first floor is museum - about 6 smaller rooms full of sweet sculptures. We like it.
Radek D — Google review
It’s definitively worth a visit but it should be called a gallery rather than a museum. There are some impressive pieces of art but I would have liked to know more about how the marzipan is made and how the sculptures are made.
Christer L — Google review
Beautiful restaurant ambience and collection of cakes was mind blowing. Staff was very friendly and speaks English. Other items too looked delicious over the counter, need more visits to try all of them. Hot chocolate was yum! Due to time and other plans couldn’t visit the museum. But had one of the best cakes ever. This is must visit shop and try some cakes , hot chocolate and infused teas when you visit Szentendre. To get access to toilets speak to the member of staff as you would need coupons.

Step into the past at the Retro Design Center in Szentendre, where a fascinating collection of items from the 1970s awaits. From beautifully restored cars to kitchenware, electrical appliances, furniture, and toys, there's something to captivate everyone's interest. The center offers a nostalgic journey through Hungary's socialist era with rare cars as its main attraction. Visitors are treated to a diverse array of retro items that were once part of everyday life in Eastern Europe.
Excellent idea! It brings you right back to the past with memories and emotion. I'm really amazed how the industries in Hungary and eastern Europe countries influence to so many other parts in the world. You can see again so many items that attached to your life in not so long a go, from a little toy, soap bar to a television, fridge and car. It's totally delightful to visit this center. It's fun, it's interesting, and it's memorable.
Cam O — Google review
The museum feels like a time capsule – bringing together the most iconic symbols of the past. From classic cars and motorcycles with sidecars to posters, everyday items, and life-like street scenes, everything is arranged with great attention to detail. Walking through the exhibition, you’re transported to a time when life seemed simpler, yet more authentic. I especially loved how each section of the museum tells its own story – not just through the vehicles, but also through the nostalgic decor and everyday objects. It's the perfect place for anyone who appreciates retro vibes, history, and great photo opportunities. If you love vintage charm, this place will definitely steal your heart!

I’ve cycled past this so many times and not visited, finally did - what a great museum! It’s full of retro items from Hungary and the former east, really well set up. You walk through the house with each room filled with items, then there are lots of vehicles outside - many that you can sit in. Well worth visiting if you are in the area.

Loads of retro stuff, not well organised. Only a few items on display have explanation attached. Good for hungarian boomers who can recall fond memories by seeing old items from their childhood or younger age. The place looks more like a flea market than a museum.

Whenever you are in Szentendre highly recommended to visit this lovely restaurant. The foods are very delicious and looks great, the staffs are very friendly and kind. We have been already here twice and had a great dinner 🥰🤩

We spontaneously stopped here for lunch on a day trip to Szentendre. We ordered the chicken with sun dried tomatoes and rice, as well as the egg curds with cheese, both meals quite tasty but I thought the curds (egg noodles) were the better option overall. It’s cheesy and the curds are soft and fluffy. The chicken in my opinion was just okay. If I had to pick between the two it would be the cheese curds, plus it’s the more authentic option (if you’re a foreigner and want to get that sort of more immersive experience in Hungary, I highly recommend it).

Passed by this restaurant when visiting a small town in suburb Budapest, it’s not too crowded, has great ambience and chill music. Roasted pork chuck and grilled chicken are delicious, chicken is juicy. Only thing is the roasted potato is over-cooked and a bit salty, everything else is just on point. Drinks like latte macchiato or cappuccino isn’t the best but satisfying enough. Staff are friendly and nice, service time is quick.

Nice restaurant in a cute small (though touristy) city. I got tasting menu II which was amazing and featured goose liver, a berry fruit soup, salmon, pork tenderloin and this cheese dumpling with fruit sauce. Every dish was amazing - key highlights were the goose liver "burger" and both fruit courses (refreshing and summery). The quality and quantity of the food was tops. Portions were big for a "tasting menu" so come hungry! This is a place I'll come back to again.

If you ever visit this beautifull city north of Budapest, I highly recommend to stop here and enjoy a really good meal. It is small with only 6 /7 tables inside. I had a cold tomato soup with pickles with cheese whch was superb. My wife had fried squid, which is difficult to find well done, but they were fresh and soft. I recommend the pork as I never had such succulent and crisp pork with a salty sauerkraut and mashed potato with gravy. My wife had an delicious duckbreast and as desert we took strawberry tiramisú which was creamy but not clear why they name It strawberry tiramisú as there were no strawberries but raspberries. With drinks and coffee we spent only €72. Presentation of the food was excellent as well.

Fantázia Étterem Pizzéria offers satisfying food with generous portions and pleasant flavors. The pork dishes are well-prepared, while the burgers, except for the bread, are also enjoyable. However, their homemade lemonade falls short with a flat taste and lack of freshness in the lemons. Unfortunately, the service at this restaurant leaves much to be desired.
One of the best meals we had in Hungary. Szabi was fantastic, very warm, friendly, suggested the best dishes on the menu. We loved our experience at this restaurant by the river. If we could we will visit this place again.

A well located restaurant across a quiet road on the western riverside bank of the Danube river western branch, in Szentendre. Excellent venue for a lazy weekend morning or afternoon brunch or lunch, for good meals and drinks.🍕 🍺. To the management and staff, Thank you kindly for the relaxing meal I had, which was well prepated and presented, even though it was only a rather tasty, Pizza I enjoyed. The restaurant had a quiet vibe about, which added greatly to enjoying a relaxed Sunday afternoon brunch. Well Done to all @ Fantázia Étterem Pizzeria!! It was well worth stopping by for a meal and a drink. I'll will certainly be visiting again, when in Szentendre

The lángos was nice however the garlic soup was a bit too salty, yet nice. However the service was not the good, I did not receive the menu but I looked at the wall, also there was only three ppl (us) still I had to go order and had to go pay. It was pricey, and not even sure I paid over or not.

Everything was good. Nothing was outstanding but we were happy. The price point was reasonable and the service was polite. The views of the river made the patio a lovely place to hang

I had harcsapaprikás with sztrapacska. The waiters were very polite and we got the menu then our orders quickly. The portion was large and the food tasted great.

I took my foreign friend here. The view is nice if you sit outside. Soup was delicious. My irish friend really liked the chicken soup. The wiener schnitzel was such a big portion we could hardly finish. We didn't have space in our tummy to order dessert. 😋 Good experience! This was my second visit here.

Avoid this place if you can. 10 minutes before closing time the extremely sassy and rude waiter came to our table, removed everything even the cushions from under us. Beside this the food and the service was terrible. After 30 minutes of waiting for our drinks we had to ask the staff where are they and it turned out they have forgot our order. Don’t recommend given there are only better places right next to it. The atmosphere 2 stars is only given due to the Danube being close. To include 12% service fee after this in the bill is outrageous.
Tamás Á — Google review
The service was friendly but on that day the salt went missing. All 3 dishes (pizza, spaghetti ‘carbonara’ and bean soup) were missing the salt. I am not a salty eater but even the pasta itself was not salted. Prices are fairly high but I guess that’s due to the location. Once you go inside you smell tha fat everything is fried in…

Restaurant
El Mariachi restaurant offers excellent food at reasonable prices. The waiting staff is highly professional, displaying politeness, composure, efficiency, and patience towards all guests. Moreover, the cozy garden ensures a pleasant dining experience even on scorching summer days. However, the interior area of the restaurant falls short with its dim lighting and narrow space; it is advisable to opt for outdoor seating instead. Despite this drawback, the food itself is delicious with tender meat and flavorful sauces.
Really tasty food! The meat was really tender, the sauce tasty and the service staff are friendly. The place is nice and calm. There's a slightly faded sign outside the restaurant but it is worth it,to take thosr steps down to it! The only negatives was the drinks. I'd choose a bottled drink next time.

Food is always great here, prices are reasonable. Waiting is the best ever, the waiter guys are so professional. They are polite, calm, fast and patient with all the guests. The garden is cosy, they do everything possible to make sure you enjoy your meal even in the hottest day of summer. I would love to give 5 stars but the inner area sucks. It is dark and narrow, better to stay outside.

Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum is an open-air museum that offers a glimpse into the traditional village and farming life of 18th to 20th-century Hungary. Located in Szentendre, a charming town on the Danube riverbank just north of Budapest, this museum showcases various Hungarian regions' ways of life, including their dwellings and agricultural practices. The picturesque town itself boasts baroque architecture, colorful houses, cobblestone streets, and delightful confectioneries.
I recommend to buy ticket in advance to avoid long queue. I visited this place for the Easter and it was such a good experience. There were many events and I think otherwise it is very nice place to spend time with your family for a picnic. Be careful that there is only one restaurant and a bakery so waiting time could be longer. I would recommend to get a food and water along with you.

Unbelievably cool place, great historical vibes, super interesting! Strongly recommend to all who are into the rural European history, looking for a source of inspiration or just want to enjoy kinda time-traveling walk. A lot of entertainment for the children, fantastic tasty pastry, comfortable walking routes, many fruit trees — yes, you can even eat some berries, depends on the season of course. I'm absolutely happy about that visit!

Very nice place close to Budapest (half an hour drive) yet very tranquil and representing an old village of Hungary, where one can learn more about the old ways of living and cultural aspects of the Hungarians. If you don't have the whole day to spend at the site, it's recommended to take a bike from the reception area after getting in, as walking route is quite long.

Went to Szentendre with the intent of visiting this heritage museum. It is a terrific place with many buildings which were in danger of being demolished or simply disappearing. They were carefully taken apart and reassembled here. They were careful to retain the rustic nature of the buildings. Sometimes not everything is accessible due to the popularity of the space as a venue for filming movies and TV shows. Plenty of places to sit and have a picnic. Also several eating and drinking venues. Only snag I found was that on a Saturday afternoon there was no public transport back to Szentendre and I had to walk about 3 kilometres. Great place for a day out.

It's a beautiful place, with many things to see. You can easily spend an entire day here. Bike rentals may be a good option for those who don't like walking all day. History lovers will love this place, it has so many fascinating stories and accurate recreations of the past. You can find free to use toilets throughout the area frequently as well, which is a bonus.

A nice camp but barely no rules, or at least no one here from the camping staff to take action when people act like animals at night and do not respect others, howling, yelling and other stuff. If you want peace and quiet in the middle of the nature this is NOT the place to be, it is only luck if you do not encounter some animal acting humans, cause the camp does not impose any rules about quiet hours...

The Micro Wonder Museum is a unique and fascinating exhibition featuring 15 pieces of miniature artwork that are so small they can only be seen through a microscope. The artist spends about six months creating each piece using a special technique. Some of the incredible artworks include a Camelcade made from gold in the eye of a needle and a Map of Australia inserted into half of a poppy seed. The museum recently moved from Szentendre to Budapest, offering visitors an unforgettable experience for just 3 euros.

Promenade Restaurant in Szentendre is a true gem offering delicious food and a romantic atmosphere. We had a very nice time here, the owner is friendly and welcoming. As many reviews highlighted, the food is nothing special. Not bad, but not superb either. The lamb soup was nice and the surroundings, the atmosphere sells the place. I wish all the best for the owner, if decide to eat here, I think you won't regret it, but I'm sure you can find better food somewhere around. All in all recommended.

Called in for a quick lunch before going back to Budapest. Didn't check reviews and glad we didn't. This place is worth more than 3.8 stars. Yes it was quiet and language barrier difficult (our fault not theirs) But what a delightful location. Overlooking the Danube and set on shaded stepped patios... perfect. Amazing value too. Lovely freshly home cooked meals. I had the perch and it was amazing. Partner had a simple pasta and tomato basil sauce. Dessert was yummy too... A chocolate souffle with ice cream and Chantilly cream. All washed down with a couple of draught beers for me and rose wine for my wife. Edith, the owner was lovely and showed us around the building and explained it's history and her own life in and around the area. She was very friendly and helpful too. Great food, reasonable prices and fantastic location. A little gem of a find!

We found the environment is pretty nice, we loved the athmosphere. Why the 3 stars? The food is average here, nothing special, not bad and not good. For this value it is expensive. The service also only average, must wait wait wait. What we hate is to fight all the time during lunch against the wasps! It was very annoying! At the end we dindt ask for sweets or coffee, we just wanted to leave. I dont know how other restaurants do with the wasp but this was the first place that they attack us in large groups.
Zoltán K — Google review
We waited 40 minutes for our food but only got the lemonades. When we went to pay for the lemonades only so we could leave as we didn’t want to wait any more, we were asked why we didn’t remind the waitress (we did, and it shouldn’t be us doing that anyway). Lovely spot but ridiculous wait time.

I experienced an exceptional culinary moment at Teyföl ! The culinary staff (chef, waiters) rendered this moment unforgettable, thank you ! Being born in Hungary myself, I particularly appreciated traditional dishes elegantly revamped. The dishes were more than delicious! The aromas and spices were nicely balanced that added a slight complexity in terms of taste to the original dishes. All of the ingredients used and the beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were local and made the perfect match with the dishes with the assistance of our kind waitress! The presentation of the dishes was definitely a delight for the eyes (colors and organisation of different ingredients) which definitely enhanced this experience. In sum, I will definitely come back next during my next visit to Szentendre :)

We visited Teyföl in Szentendre last night with my wife and our daughter, and it turned into one of those rare dining experiences you want to relive again and again. The walk through the town’s cobbled streets already set the scene, and the restaurant itself continued the magic: stylish yet unpretentious, fairly spacious, softly lit, and perfectly tuned with gentle background music. The staff deserve special praise - genuinely warm, attentive, and professional, making us feel immediately at ease as a family. The menu is short but inspired: Hungarian classics given a modern, elegant touch. Every dish we tried was memorable, and the drinks from local producers paired beautifully. Teyföl is a true gem on Hungary’s culinary map. We left feeling delighted and grateful, definately will revisit. Absolutely recommended for anyone who values not just great food, but a complete dining experience.

Café Christine is a charming restaurant located in one of the oldest buildings in Szentendre, by the Danube. Open from 8 AM daily, it offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a variety of coffee specialties. The terrace provides a lovely view of the Danube and is covered during winter. While mainly serving traditional Hungarian cuisine, it also offers vegan options. The waitstaff speaks English well and provides great service with English menus available.
The little restaurant stands by the beautiful River Danube. We are not very hungry. So we ordered traditional cuisine of beef soup and fish soup which are along with some free breads for dipping. I like the iced latte, that tasted rich and creamy. Everything is excellent, especially the service.

Lovely riverfront cafe where we had a bite to eat on our day trip. We had a very nice Gambas pilpil with lots of meaty prawns and an accompanying sauce and the camembert salad which was a good sized portion of cheese with lots of seeds etc in the salad for texture. Pina coladas were the best we've had in Hungary so far!

We had a lovely lunch here on our trip to Szentendre. The restaurant itself is in a perfect location, and we were thrilled to get a table on their outdoor terrace. Sitting outside was so pleasant—it’s a really nice, relaxed setting to enjoy a meal and watch the world go by. The food was definitely the highlight. We tried a traditional Hungarian dish and it was delicious, very flavourful and clearly made with care. The portion size was generous and we felt the prices were very reasonable for the quality and the location. The only area for improvement would be with the service. The staff weren't rude by any means, but they were a little brusque and could have been a bit more welcoming and attentive. A warmer attitude would have made the experience perfect. Overall, we had a very nice time and would recommend it for the tasty food and beautiful outdoor seating. We'd happily come back on our next visit to Szentendre!

Im writing this not just as a customer but a hospitality professional with 50years experience. Christine Cafe has provided us with a great lunch (the best lunch in two months, according to my wife). Thank you for a great experience.

We were eating breakfasts and lunches quite a long time here, but never get to review this place somehow. We have a yearly event when we bike up to Pap-rét on Friday after work, and on Saturday morning, going down straight to Christine for a great breakfast. Wonderful place fantastic service and local dishes very good. Just a note Hungarian dumping nothing like english. Light and airy and in small bits.

Have the steak and mushroom and elderflower lemonade, both were great! Waitress was very nice! And service was typical of Europe, quite quick compared to other places I’ve gone around here. Music playing at the restaurant next door is a nice touch, great view of the square.
Michelle M — Google review
The food that we ordered here was simple but very well done. There were no vegetarian mains, so we had starters, a salad and sides, however the starters were quite substantial. The deep-fried mushrooms and cheese were light and not at all greasy. The Greek salad was fresh with a tasty dressing. The Somloi Galuska wasn't 100% authentic (there was only plain sponge and no raisins) but it was tasty and there was lots of the chocolate-rum sauce. The staff were very friendly. There's seating outdoors on the square and in a courtyard as well as indoor seating
Mexikoi — Google review
Location is great with traditional menu. Sadly, that's the best I can say about. The food itself was average and the goulash very watery. Service is dismissive, orders wrong and to top it all there was hair in the chilli dip. Given they tell you up front there is a 13% service charge included in the meal suggest they know you are in for a poor experience. Avoid - much better places to go nearby.

food is good, coffee is good, staff is very nice. even that u are not coming for coffee and borrowing toilet, as long as u are with smile on your face requesting for toilet, the beautiful staff will direct you to toilet for sure.

Its just a tourist trap, not more. Waiters are rude, they cant even remember what we ordered, the food was below average. Lemonade was the worst I'be ever drank. Wouldn't recomnend.

If you're on the hunt for genuine Greek cuisine, look no further than Görög Kancsó Étterem. Nestled along Szentendre's oldest street and boasting stunning views of the Danube River, this charming restaurant has been delighting diners since 1961. The menu is a delightful blend of traditional Greek dishes like souvlaki, gyros, moussaka, and homemade baklava alongside Hungarian specialties.
Beautiful setting by the Danube. Delicious calamari, chicken souvlaki and extremely generous portions. Dessert of cheesecake and apple pie and ice cream were totally worth the extra calories!! Server was patient and very efficient. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Short stay In Szentendre and dined at this restaurant on two occasions. Absolutely outstanding in every way , friendly and welcoming service, food plentiful and beautifully presented and so tasty . The owner gave me a beer on the house how kind is that. Finally the location is right on the Danube it would be silly to walk passed 10/10
Clive J — Google review
Pleasantly surprised because it seems like a tourist trap along the river. However, it has a cool breeze and the food was delicious! I had souvlaki and it didn’t disappoint!
M E — Google review
Absolutely beautiful service and food from Görög Kancsó Étterem! Frank took care of us from the moment we got there. I got the Kofte, the others got falafel and everyone was impressed. Can’t forget to mention the view! Absolutely gorgeous
Paige W — Google review
Absolutely delicious dishes, generous portions, polite and attentive service, great view of the promenade and Danube. No aircon though, and the outdoors ventilation isn't very powerful. Smoking and non-smoking areas aren't exactly separated.
Alexandra W — Google review
Lovely setting near the river and friendly service. Only dropped down one star as I ordered a salad without cucumber which they wouldn't make - the one they used it premade. Great that they've a few alcohol free drink options too. Portions are very generous - you won't be hungry! Staff spoke English which was really helpful!
Dearbhla D — Google review
It was a great place. It is possible to ask the food immediately for takeaway. They box it nicely and there is a 10% discount when you ask the food to takeaway. We had gyros plate and falafel plate both were good portions, good size. Place is recommended. No vegan option at all, vegetarians will find good options.
Robert B — Google review
I ate chicken gyros plate! Well, I think quality was good enough, service was fast and smooth. A bit overpriced but tasty. We had a table on the street near the river Danube and that was fancy with good atmosphere! But inside the restaurant is very old and tiny. STRONG 3 STAR! Should try!

The Ferenczy Museum, located in Szentendre, Hungary, is a prominent institution that celebrates the artistic legacy of the region. It is housed in an elegant mansion and features the works of the renowned Ferenczy family of artists, including Károly Ferenczy. The museum offers a comprehensive collection spanning several generations of the family's artwork and also hosts temporary exhibitions.
5stars valid, while the opinion 'here' missed the place :-( and therefore it was irrelevant. better look for the permanent exhibition...

A small museum dedicated to a single artist/craftsman. The 1700 HUF entry ticket bought at other museums will give you free access here also. The artist featured here is Tamas Melkovics, his works being modern experimental sculptural forms. For me I preffered the two other museums I visited today, viz. Kmetty Janos (Paintings) and Margit Kovacs ceramics, but this was on the way back to the station so worth dropping in for 10/15 minutes. They provide free lockers for any bags you have which is useful.

Named after the Ferenczy family, known for their pivotal contributions to Hungarian art, the museum plays a central role in commemorating their legacy. The museum complex comprises a variety of exhibitions and collections, displaying artworks by the Ferenczy family members—Károly, Noémi, and Béni—alongside numerous other influential Hungarian artists. This cultural institution serves as a focal point for understanding the development and impact of the Ferenczy family and other prominent artists associated with Szentendre. Through its efforts to curate and preserve an extensive collection of Hungarian art, the Ferenczy Museum stands as an essential venue for both local and international visitors interested in exploring the artistic history of Hungary and the broader evolution of European visual arts.

Nestled in the heart of Szentendre, the Saint Peter and Paul Church is a stunning architectural gem with a rich history. Originally built around 1750 as a Serbian Orthodox church, it transitioned to Roman Catholic ownership in 1942 and was renamed. The church underwent significant renovations in 1989, restoring its beautiful exterior features like the roof, bell tower, and clock that now keeps perfect time after years of disrepair due to World War II.
Saint Peter and Paul church. Lovely.

The whole outside of the church was nicely reconstructed recently. The roof, the paintings, the bell tower and the bell itself. And finally the clock of the tower is showing the corect time again. It was ruined during the second world war, and was broken untill recently.

The largest church in Szentendre was originally built for the Serbian Orthodox community in 1791. Its Serbian name, Ciprovacka Church is still used. The late Baroque style church was used until the Serbian community  emigrated at the beginning of the 20th century, taking with them the equipment and the iconostasis of the church

The Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum in Szentendre, Hungary is a must-visit attraction for art enthusiasts. It features over 300 figural sculptures created by the celebrated 20th-century Hungarian ceramic artist Margit Kovács. The museum, opened in 1973, proudly displays the versatile and timeless creations of Kovács, a Kossuth Award-winning artist.
So glad I got to see this exhibition. The opening hours are the best by far as well so it’s hard not to miss. Many rooms of incredible ceramic art - she was a true artist!

I like the way Szentendre has so many small museums each one dedicated to just one artist/craftsman. Here you can see a great collection of Margit Kovacs ceramic works. The entry price of 1700 HUF will also give you access to other museums around the town, so make sure you keep the receipt. There's a particular one way circuit around this exhibition. I nearly missed some of it as I couldn't understand Hungarian and the staff couldn't understand English. But with a bit of gesturing, I found the right way around.

What a lovely magical place! I am glad to have discovered the beautiful and strong works of this great ceramic artist. I loved the Madonnas, the mourners, the women, the animals... all in fact 🙂. There is even a space to touch some pieces. Nice ladies in the exhibition explain and show you.
Isabelle R — Google review
Go and see the fantastic Margit Kovács Ceramics Museum. It is strange to discover an amazing potter from before and during the Communist era here in Hungary. One of her works is a round ceramic 3x3 meter world map with the USSR in the middle. We lived side by side in Europe but each with our own center of the world. Margit Kovác's ceramics are some of the most expressive I have ever seen.

Belgrade Cathedral, also known as the St. Lazarus Church, is a stunning example of Orthodox architecture located in Szentendre, Hungary. The church is adorned with glittering icons and is adjacent to the Church Art Museum.

Best chimney cake ever!!!!! They make them outside on the charcoal and the taste in delicious! They are more crispy and less sugary. We tried the basic one and the one stuffed with nutella and whipped cream. We spent 4.50€ and we ate them while we walked in this beautiful small town.

Good value for the location. I was a bit afraid ending in a tourist trap, but it was a nice experience in the end. I picked up one of their seasonal offer (duck liver) and a glorious dessert (Kereskedohaz cake 😍). The restaurant is located in a beautiful historic building that adds to the overall atmosphere, making your visit feel special and unique. The staff are friendly and welcoming, always ready to help and make you feel at home. One highlight was the super spritz cocktail, which came with a surprising but delicious twist—a slice of watermelon. It was an unusual combination but worked really well and added a fresh touch to the drink. The food menu offers traditional Hungarian dishes that are well-prepared and flavorful. Hungarian restaurant
Korona Étterem is a historic restaurant that has maintained its charming and nostalgic ambiance for over two centuries. It offers a variety of dining settings, including a terrace with views of the Main Square, a garden, and cozy interior rooms that are open year-round. Guests can savor authentic Hungarian dishes such as Venison & wild mushroom ragout and Hungarian fish soup while enjoying live music performances. The restaurant also serves traditional favorites like Wiener Schnitzel and goulash soup.
What a find on a sweet square. We had been walking in the rain, so the warm food was perfect. The service was slow, but I think that's more Hungarian style than this specific restaurant. Fun local wines by the glass and the most tasty Venison & wild mushroom ragout I've had. Rice was substituted for the potato croquet on my dish.

A nice traditional Hungarian spot, which was warm and had friendly staff. Live orchestra band was lovely. Food wasn’t the best and probably more expensive than it should be. Would recommend booking as will get busy, especially as there is not a lot of other places to eat in the town. Very near the famous umbrella picture spot.

Food was good, nothing to comment about that. But i think this is a common problem for Hungary as far as i can see. Hygiene is lacking everywhere i go here. Also, to the prices in the menu they add a 13% percent service tax. At the end the waiter asked us if we want to leave a tip, and i asked him what about the 13% “service tax” and he answered that the 13% goes to the chef. I find this weird and uncommon and overall i wouldnt dine here again.

Please don't waste your time at this restaurant. The service is terrible. They took a long time to bring the food, and one of the dishes wasn't what we ordered because ordered pizza, but they delivered a different one. When we complained, they quickly brought the same pizza with the same ingredients as the one we had originally ordered. It was terrible! We later found out there were much better restaurants in the area.

We had a bad experience with the cashier here. They thought we were foreigners who didn't understand Hungarian so they tricked us into paying a higher bill. When I claimed it wasn't my bill the cashier refused to check and claimed he was right, only until the waiter came to confirm it did he pay the correct bill with a bad attitude. Foreigners should be careful here. I don't recommend it to you
Hoàng T — Google review
When I finished my meal and went to pay, my bill was supposed to be around 12,000 HUF, but the cashier gave me a bill for another table totaling 17,000 HUF. I told them that this was not my order and that my table had different dishes, but they refused to check and insisted that I pay the wrong bill. The cashier’s attitude was very unpleasant and unprofessional, even though the mistake was clearly not mine. Only after I asked a waiter to confirm what we had actually ordered did they realize the mistake — yet they still acted annoyed and didn’t even apologize. Very disappointing experience.

Bad experience today!! I sit at long table. I don’t have choice when I came into restaurant. After a while , there has a family customer coming and come to sit at this long table. I think they has 8-9 people. It’s very obviously I can’t keep sit here. I felt very embarrassed because it’s likes that is my fault to sit here. The waitress didn’t explained to me anything. Until my face became very embarrassed then there has a waitress asked me “would you like to change to another seat”. I asked waitress Is this table has reservation? But I get the answer is “No”. If the waitress come to ask me to move to another table before this family coming to sit down that I will not felt so embarrassed and I will happy to change. I was waiting around 30mins to get my meal. The chips very dry and not heat. The red wine beef stew was okay. I don’t understand why so high reviews restaurant but they offer damage plates. my payment is 4114HUF . They charged 1HUF more became 4115HUF. But I was pay by card not pay cash so I feel this is very unreasonable.

(Translated by Google) I warn everyone against buying anything in this gallery, because it is full of fake paintings, as I was able to see for myself in a company of experts. The owner of the gallery does not have any art history education, which of course he does not brag about, maybe some high school. However, this does not entitle him, outside of his practice, to issue certificates of paintings, which we assume are often fake. A conman and a fraud at his best! Beware of the dwarf! The gallery's motto is typical, I quote: While the ant worked diligently, the cricket kept making music. They both died in the fall. This is quite an eloquent example of what an immeasurably limited, incredibly primitive person László Erdész is. It is clear that his narcissism is what satisfies him in this activity, running the gallery. This in itself would not be a problem if he understood it, but he continues to do a lot of very dangerous and of course illegal things, and has been doing so for decades. It would be time to look at your nails and close your gallery after a proper investigation by the authorities. Óvakodj a törpétől!

Additionally, the 4 cheese pasta was satisfactory, but the highlight was undoubtedly the delectable tiramisu.
Otranto Pizza Bar is a gem in Szentendre for lovers of Italian cuisine. The pizza is absolutely delicious, with a thin, crispy crust and high-quality, fresh toppings. The musicians were a joy, so good. And the location of course was fantastic. The food was inedible though, disgusting. AVOID AVOID AVOID!! Tried to scam us. Very poor experience overall, our bill came to a total of 35000 Ft, server tried to charge us for 42000, using excuses like “We have an Italian side and a Hungarian side and I have to add them up” and “the service charges are different” blah blah blah. Claimed that he “grabbed the wrong bill” in the end despite using the same one the whole time, terribly shameless attempt of scamming us. Other than that, The food were served separately (across a 15 minute gap) and slowly. The complimentary bread given was dry and cold. The duck breast and the pork “tender”loin were dry, salty and rough to the point that they were basically inedible. Drinks didn’t come with ice, not even upon request. Cutlery were dirty (see pic) and had literal food stuck on it. For your own good please avoid this place.

They have a carpeted area in the back for kids with pillows to sit on, and toys. I just got aloo gobi, and garlic naan and I can't stop thinking about it.

Maharaja was our favorite restaurant in Szentendr. We regularly came to visit and eat here. Today we visited again and the for of us wanted to eat, two adult and two children. The waiter stated that there is no available table. Clearly there was six available table in the restaurant. We told them that we would finish within 45 minutes. But the waiter was not willing to even budge or look at the reservation. They could have look at the reservation table or offer alternative options, such as we can only give one table for 30 minutes, or thru could have offer takeaway. We probably would have done take away if offered and not stop rudely sent away. This was a horrible experience today and we will not be coming back to Maharaja.

Mahraja in Szentendre is an Indian restaurant where we stopped just for a beer. Unfortunately, the prices felt really high for what we got, especially compared to other places in the area. The atmosphere was okay, but the service left a lot to be desired. The waiters were slow and not very friendly, which made the experience less enjoyable. While the food menu looked promising, we didn’t get the chance to try any dishes this time. Based on our brief visit, it didn’t feel like great value for money. If you’re looking for a quick drink, you might want to consider other options nearby. Overall, Mahraja was just average for us, mostly because of the slow service and high prices. Three stars because the place is clean and has potential, but it needs improvement in hospitality and pricing to be a better choice.

I visited the restaurant today for lunch and, honestly, I was quite disappointed with the staff’s attitude. The waitress who served us was not welcoming at all — it felt like she didn’t want to be there. In fact, most of the staff seemed unhappy and unapproachable, except for one young man who was kind and knew how to treat customers. As for the food, the biryani was quite average, but the chicken khao soi was tasty, and the naan bread was also delicious.

My experience at this restaurant was very disappointing if you look at the menu the prices are hight you think you will get something special but unfortunately the food taste horrible not indian at all The butter chicken is made with tomato paste and sugar hhhhhhh really disaster i don't recommend it at all

Nice Indian Restaurant near the River Danube in Szentendre! Taste likes traditional, nice service and staffs. Food quality is high class and the price is worth it at all. Well, should try it. Part of the town near the restaurant is very peaceful and beauty. Great to enjoy the feeling of Hungary!
Havasi E — Google review
Amazing flavors, I particularly liked the vegetable curry and butter chicken. The waiting staff was very friendly, although we had to wait quite a while for our bill at the end, considering that the place wasn’t very busy. The portions are also very small, which came as a surprise given the prices.
Endre R — Google review
Service needs a big upgrade, the ladies are trying to be nice but they have no clue how to do their work. POS not working impossible to pay by credit card. Inside during the lunch there was a lady that was cleaning the floor and all the dust was going on the plates where we were eating. They need to pay attention ont the cleaning as well.

Fast food restaurant
Álomlángos Szentendre is a popular spot for delicious langos, offering a variety of flavors and freshly made with hand-grated cheese. Despite limited seating, the place exudes a summer vacation vibe and is always crowded due to its delectable offerings. Open from spring till late autumn, this hidden gem is known for its light and not too greasy langos at reasonable prices.
This place will always have my heart in Szentendre, I always eat lángos here, since I was a child. Absolutely not overpriced, very sweet people, really good lángos (not huge and full of oil). There's a few spots to sit here, but it's right below the church where we usually sit and eat while enjoying the view. They also have filled lángos, but you can try the original versions of course (like garlic sauce, sour cream, cheese).
Anna C — Google review
It's undoubtedly the most famous lángos place in Szentendre, so definitely put it on your list. 📍Place: located in the middle of the narrow alley leading up to the church from the main square. It has a couple of benches and a counter so you can sit down and stand too, or just do takeaway. 🍛 Food: the fame is absolutely understandable, it's a very good lángos, not crispy in the middle but very soft and lighter than others. If you would like to add garlic or spicy sauce, let them know in advance, they give you the plain lángos and you can add them by yourself (you can be generous with them, they are not too intense) Then they add the toppings of your choice. I have certainly chosen the cheese & sour cream with some garlic, it costs HUF 1900. Really delicious! 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: You order at the window, it's ready very quickly, and the lady is super kind, patient & efficient.

Cheese and sour cream langos and cinnamon pancakes were really delicious. The lady preparing food was really kind too. Five stars!
Myo M — Google review
Very authentic langos. Had it with a sour cream as I like it the most. It is very small place, but liked the atmosphere. We had it prepared by very nice man, loved the feeling that he is cooking in the back of his own house.
Evija B — Google review
This is a fun place to get a snack while walking about Szentendre. The langos are freshly made with hand grated cheese. There is only a small amount of seating, a table that holds about eight, a park bench, and a standing bar area. However, it really has the ethos of summer vacation.
Sarah H — Google review
It was heavenly good! The lángos was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. I never tasted something so delicious in my life! Exceeded all expectations! Service was good too

Nestled behind the St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish Church on Church Hill, the Bela Czobel Museum is a gem for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This museum celebrates the life and works of Bela Czobel, a prominent figure in modern Hungarian fine arts who played a pivotal role in launching the fauvist movement alongside luminaries like Matisse and Derain in Paris.
Paintings that are not exactly in the style of my liking and yet are very evocative. Learned a lot also about the painter's personal life.

A total of 250 Jews arrived at the death camps, only 35 of whom survived the Holocaust. Among them were Lajos Szanto and his wife, who returned to live here. Their son, Gyorgy Szanto, decided to build a synagogue in the courtyard of their house in memory of relatives who lived here and perished in the Holocaust. The food was amazing. I saw all the recommendations about the fish soup so I took it (with catfish, as the waiter recommended). It was delicious, and the fish was tender and juicy. For main dish I took the chicken with sundried tomatoes and spinach gnocchi. It was so good. The service was great and I would highly recommend! They have a "wine museum" downstairs. The food was good, the personnel professional. But in order to get to 5 stars, they need more structure. We were waiting for an initially undefined amount of time for our food, which turned out to be 45 min. But there is no beeper and there are not enough chairs, so we resorted to wait on the street. The place needs capacity planning, waiting time estimation, a solution for full house and places for the customers to wait.

Restaurant
Rab Ráby Étterem is a unique blend of restaurant and museum, named after the Hungarian novel Rab Raby. It showcases an array of antique items and medieval knights, creating an intriguing atmosphere for visitors. Established in 1982, it has been a favored dining spot for influential politicians. The restaurant offers delicious goulash served in a metal cauldron and boasts an extensive collection of vintage decor that captivates guests.
This restaurant is simply put a fascinating place. The food portions are hearty and the food is delicious! The pork loins with garlic sauce are out of this world. The decoration is one of the most unique things I’ve seen in a restaurant. I strongly recommend.

We had a lovely time at Rab Ráby! The decor is truly unique and full of character — it feels like dining in a traditional Hungarian museum. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly. I’d definitely like to come back again. One note: on hot days, the lack of proper ventilation or air conditioning can be uncomfortable. Otherwise, it’s a great place for a traditional meal in Szentendre.

Very nice restaurant, big plates of food. I choose my food based on the menu photos, but it came only half of the veggies that were in there and or written in the menu. Had to order another plate. Beautiful restaurant with great service.

We were escorted to our table, around 14:30 saturday, and given menu. After 20 min. waiting nobody came to take our order. There were 2 other tables with customers, otherwise restaurant was empty. We left without ordering.

Tourist trap but still fantastic. The goulash is really tasty and served in a metal cauldron. The decoration is... Super... All types of old vintage things, you can stay in the restaurant for 2h and you'll never get bored of looking at the walls. The chairs have coat of arms. Ideal for groups of friends that want to travel back in time and have a great time together.

Best place in Szentandre to get the beloved Hungarian fisherman soup. It comes with a side of peasant bread and some sought of chili paste. You can ask for more bread if you run out. The restaurant is medieval themed and decked fully with interesting items and trinkets. The prices are very reasonable.

An excellent restaurant with great food and great service. The atmosphere is great, classic Hungarian country style. We highly recommend this restaurant

Restaurant
Freeride Street Food Bistro offers delectable street food in a delightful manner. Their dishes are flavorful, fresh, and of high quality, all at an affordable price. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive to customers' needs. While the coffee being served in a paper mug when dining in raises a slight concern, overall, the place is flawless. It features unique taste combinations like bacon jam or chicken-cheese-walnut that add an exciting twist to their menu.
Soups are originals and delicious, same goes for the wraps. The quality of the place is really great and the owners extremely nice. I highly recommend it.

Very nice place with cool unusual taste combinations (eg. bacon jam or chicken-cheese-walnut). Great staff, tasty wraps, good choice of vegan or lighter food and a nice terrace at the main street of Szentendre

Awesome food and great service. The portions are huge and everything is very tasty. The tomato soup was the best I've ever eaten.

Delicious wraps and soups in the heart of Szentendre. The staff is very friendly and helpful, definitely a must try if you’re in the neighborhood!

Nice alternative to the usual heavy creamy /fried pork dishes. Great fresh and fast food. Simple menu with healthy vegetarian options (becoming more common these days in Hungary). Very friendly and helpful staff. Will return here for sure!

Offer only a few things and make them exceptionally well. Couple that with superb customer service (a rarity in these parts), and you have a recipe for success. Freeride is doing just that. Great toasted wraps filled with delicious offerings. We had the Miss Piggy, the pulled beef and the basmati bowl. All great choices. Highly recommend if you are strolling around Szentendre. Seating is available, as well, the wraps are perfect to eat while afoot.

Very very positive surprise. Finaly streetfood in Hungary can be done differently than “langos” :D I am fan of langos as well, but those meals here have idea and taste. Friendly stuff and warm place. Such a place you would come once again to show it to your friends.
