Cathédrale Notre-Dame-du-Puy is a Romanesque masterpiece located in the town of Puy-en-Velay, attracting pilgrims and tourists with its unique striped facade made of volcanic rock and sandstone. This UNESCO World Heritage site was built between the 10th and 12th centuries and features a blend of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture. The cathedral houses a revered statue of the Black Virgin, which is paraded through the streets annually on August 15th.
A place of pilgramage. All roads lead to the cathedral. Over 144 cobble stone steps to the top. Not for the faint of heart. Opens up to the altar of the cathedral. Statues of Joan of Arc and Louie XIV. The black virgin Mary. The original was burned during the french revolution.

On top of the hill behind Le Puy, it’s a bit of a climb, but well worth it Quite plain inside by Euro standards but has a “vibe” that makes you think it’s something special The views back towards the town and great
TerryA — Google review
Always a must see when i go to Le Puy, beautiful church with many secrets and little ally ways. There are some closed doors that if you give a little push will open right up and you will find yourself all by yourself in a new section of the church. There are great views of the city and other landmarks in the city. Do be ready to walk up many steps as this church is at the top of the hill.
Gaspard A — Google review
This is a magnificent historical Romanesque cathedral. It's location on a high point in the heart of the old town offers amazing views of the city. We were lucky as during our visit there was a Pilgrim's mass on. This Cathedral is definitely a must visit.

A rare mixture of various architectural styles from Roman to Gothic to Oriental styles. A rich history to discover together with the rise and fall of the regional fortune. A must stop for visitors as well as pilgrims alike.

Notre-Dame de France is a monumental pink statue located just a short walk from the city center. Built in 1860 using metal from 213 cannons seized during the Crimean War, it offers visitors the unique experience of climbing a spiral staircase inside and peering out from the top. Perched on the volcanic rock formation known as Corneille, this representation of the Virgin Mary provides breathtaking panoramic views of Le Puy and Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe.
I was absolutely stunned by Notre-Dame de France in Le Puy. The statue is massive and looks incredible up close. The climb is totally worth it because the views from the top are just insane. I think this is one of the best places in France, highly recommend visiting!
Anirudha S — Google review
The trek up to the statue is moderately strenuous, with minor rests it took about 5-10 mins from the ticket booth. The view of the surrounding countryside from the observation deck is incredible; especially the view of Rocher Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe (St. Michel Chappel).
Nick F — Google review

Beautiful experience. Worth going up al the stairs.
Yvonne S — Google review
Not an easy climb up but not too hard if you are in a decent shape. The view from the top is great. Going into the statue is just a fun, but you don't really see much more, so if you skip you won't loose much.
Shmaya D — Google review
A must do, incredible views of the city from the top, you can even go all the way up into the crown of the statue.

Nestled in the picturesque region of Le Puy en Velay, Verveine du Velay Pagès is a delightful liqueur that has been captivating taste buds since 1859. This exquisite drink is crafted from a harmonious blend of over 32 plants, prominently featuring local lemon verbena, and aged to perfection in oak barrels.

Wonderful Pages outlet located in the center of Le Puy en Velay. Super staff speaking English, French and Spanish. Try the unique Verveine du Velay. Containing over 30 herbs including lemon verbena and star anis as the predominant flavor, this digestive is sure to please. Buy your favorite sweet tooth lover some chocoholic candies filled with their famous liquor. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) I discovered the existence of Verbena liqueur shortly before my departure for Auvergne. It's amazing; the verbena flavor combined with alcohol is amazing. It's surprising at first; you recognize the scent of the plant, then the alcohol surprises, but the taste is sumptuous. Be careful, it can become less pleasant if you drink too much. (Translated by Google) We are a senior couple with a small Spitz dog weighing less than 4 kg. While passing through Le Puy-en-Velay, we intended to bring back 6 bottles of Verveine du Velay Pages liqueur for ourselves and as gifts for our parents and friends. We had barely entered this Passage store on Friday, September 5, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. with our little dog in our arms, when we were verbally assaulted by the store employee who shouted at us: "No pets in our store, please leave!!!" After being literally chased out of the store and shocked by such attitude in this renowned store, a neighboring shopkeeper advised us to go to a nearby wine and liqueur store where we were very kindly welcomed, along with our little dog, and where we were able to purchase another brand of liqueur, delicious and much more attractively priced! Conclusion: Animal lovers, avoid this store and this Pages brand, which hates animals! (Translated by Google) Very pretty with a very nice outdoor terrace. However, very noisy table layout which makes it look like a canteen... Incompatible with the price offered. In fact to make a complete menu you easily reach 40 to 50€ At this price there are no services, you even get rid of it and you eat a hamburger in a canteen.. Too bad these are quality fresh products...But I find quality, fresh products with the added service and intimacy in a four restaurant sometimes much cheaper with more choice. I don't really understand the concept in a place like this we expect to have a lot more choice with stands offering completely different things and if it's a self-service concept we don't expect this rating (there it's just the starter in one place the hot main course in another and the dessert elsewhere everyone has to earn their living so everything is very expensive) (Original) Très jolie avec une très belle terrasse extérieure.

Rocher Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe is a remarkable 82-meter high rock formation dedicated to Archangel Michael, with a history dating back over 2 million years. The site features a stunning chapel built over 1000 years ago, accessible by climbing 268 steps that wind around the rock. Visitors can take breaks on benches along the way.
A must in le Puy. Atmosphere in this church is so intense. You also have to see the night light show. Go there after 11 Pm to have the best colors.

WoW! Is enough to explain. The small church dedicated to Michael the Archangel on the top, and the incredible steep ascent of this 2 million years ancient Vulcano, the view from down and from the top. The Portal, the remains of the frescos.. All amazing!
Paolo E — Google review
Unique church on top of a rock, in the middle of Puy-en-Velay. The church on top is dedicated to archangel Michael, and there is a little chapel dedicated to the archangel Gabriel. The church dates back to the 10th century, and has some very beautiful frescoes on the inside. The museum at the bottom of the climb explains a lot about which figure depicts who, and explains the history of the church. Entry costs €6 per person, but we thought this is definitely worth it. I don't think the climb is accessible when you have a disability. Otherwise, the climb is doable.
Thirza S — Google review
Unbelievable achievement to build a chapel on top of a very high rock. Go in the early evening and observe a service before the long walk down. Also visit the Mary and Jesus statue on an even higher rock and experience the son et Lumiere show in the evenings. Brilliant place to visit. The town is called Puy en Velay.

We would give it a 5 star if the service was better. We were the 2nd table to arrive at the restaurant and placed our orders promptly but our foods were delivered much slower than other late arrivals and our after dinner cafe was not delivered at all. The beef tartare was excellent, the lamb shank was good too. The steak was a bit over cooked.

The meal is very generous, but there's a slight drawback regarding the hot dish (duck parmentier). A little expensive for what it is, but it could have done with a little more duck on the plate, as it's almost entirely absent. But overall, a great discovery. Impeccable service down to the smallest detail and succulent, generous dishes. While enjoying our aperitif, we saw a most appetizing sushi platter. Surprising for a French bistro... seeing them immediately made us want to try them. And we were not disappointed!!! A real treat!!! And after chatting with the owner, it turns out that it's a sushi master who's treating us!!! This is one of the many reasons to come and discover this beautiful place. In addition to the quality of the dishes (including the presentation), there is, and this is just as important, the quality of the service. The kindness of the owner and staff, the attention paid to ensuring our meal runs smoothly, it's all there. The white wine is even served in a bucket with ice cubes. And that's not the case everywhere... We even got to watch the sea bream being filleted live!!! The server's skill must be commended!!! A little show to cap off this wonderful moment. I can only recommend you come and discover this gem. Cuisine without much fuss but with great quality. And that's exactly what we're looking for to enjoy a truly memorable French experience.

Please note that it's a party, but remember to consider the neighbors and avoid acting like Conor McGregor in the street. The experience at Brasserie Pub La Distillerie was superb from the moment of arrival. The friendly staff provided water and snacks for our dogs before attending to us. The menu options were perfect, catering even to gluten-free needs. The food was exceptional, as was their Breton cider. Inside, the decor would delight Lord of the Rings fans.

Great pub style restaurant with an eclectic menu. I would like to say my carpaccio was abundant and well seasoned. Although very tough and hard to cut. The bread and beer is excellent. Good atmosphere inside, and patio seating.

Superb experience from the time we walked through the door. We had 2 dogs with us and staff offered water and snacks before dealing with us humans. Menu options spot on. Staff accommodated my gluten free. Food wS exceptional as was my breton cider. Inside decor a must for all Lord of the Rings fans.

(Translated by Google) Excellent little restaurant that has all the makings of a big one! Charming service, pleasant room, and very good cuisine based on fresh produce, often organic and always plant-based (+ a little cheese). The menu changes every day. In the evening, formula at 18 or 25 €, fairly reasonable prices. As for wine, a limited choice, but the (honest) bottles of red are €20, which is entirely reasonable. We were delighted to come for a romantic dinner, but the restaurant lends itself to all atmospheres (we met a small group of young friends as well as a family). In short, a great discovery in the upper town of Puy!

The food served at L'émotion is simply outstanding, with each dish being prepared to perfection using high-quality ingredients. The menu offers a wide variety of options that are both creative and delicious, guaranteeing a unique culinary adventure for all guests. Additionally, the prices are very reasonable considering the level of cuisine being served.
Wow - fantastic food and excellent service. This is a fine dining experience, admittedly portions are small, but quality, flavors and presentation are exquisite. Great wine selection. If you’re on a budget or particularly hungry, this is not the place for you, however if you’re looking for a fantastic fine dining experience with great wines, this is the place to go.
TerryA — Google review
L'émotion is our go to restaurant in Le Puy. They have a regularly varying menu, a good selection of drinks, my personal favorite being the local craft beer, and very cheerful and welcoming staff. In summer you can find the most refreshing selection of dishes here with classics like beef tartare, maquerels or carpaccios and original ideas like sorbets based on vegetables. We mainly like the gastronomic menu though on week days they also serve quicker and simpler alternatives.
Riesenradler — Google review
Very good value for money. In a one week stay, we went there two times. Starter, main course, dessert, wine... All is so tasty and well presented. Service is as expected with good advice for the wine.
Eric M — Google review
Overpriced for the experience I had I was expecting to pay more for a great gastronomic experience. That what the restaurant seems to offer, but I regret to say that I am and I end up in another overpriced and pretencious restaurant. The entrance of the restaurant looks like an hotel check-in, maybe it was in the past, but it doesn't look bad at all. The room has a quite and confortable environment and it is pleasant. I ordered an Carpaccio as the starter which was for me the worst experience of the menu, too much cheese sauce and a ridiculous among of carpaccio. I felt really frustrated because it was almost none. If carpaccio isn't the main ingredient, change the name to "Cheese sauce with few notes of carpaccio" The main dish was a very well cooked and quality piece a meat but with a roasted carrot only. Which I finished in 1 minute. Then the cheese. they were good, but 3 very thin and tiny slices of cheese, it would enough for me as an experience, if the main dish was with reasonable quantity. I felt the quantity were less nice than a supermarket offer in the cheese section. Oh well, the dessert was saved the day. funny that the dessert should be in the experience the smaller dish, but it was the bigger one, but I guess I can thank the chef for providing me less food to allow me to not feel guilty when I eat the dessert. in total, we spend 43€ each. I think it is overpriced for the gastronomic experience, could be easily improved by quantities in Carpaccio starter and with something more than a carrot.

Pleasant gardens for relaxing in, with plenty of specimen trees and a picturesque pond. But we felt very unhappy about the small dirty enclosures that housed a random selection of unhappy looking animals.

It's really really small. There is a zoo part but the animals look like they want to end their lifes. There is just enough grass to allow for everyone to seat. The good point is that the museum is embedded in the park and there is a small cafeteria where they sell really good pancakes

Situated in the picturesque city of Le Puy-en-Velay, France, Musée Crozatier is a renowned museum that offers a diverse collection of art, history, and natural sciences. Named after Charles Crozatier, a prominent sculptor from the region, this 19th-century establishment showcases archaeological finds, medieval artifacts, sculptures, paintings, and decorative arts.
It is the best museum I have seen and visited in all my life. I advise all to visit it .

It had a much better selection than I anticipated. Artifacts from Egypt, Rome, and Greece. Kids would probably like the taxidermied animals on the top floor. It was also interesting to find out that the town was the "place for lace."
Mark — Google review
I enjoyed several hours wondering through the different levels of the museum learning about the local history and enjoying artwork depicting areas that I had been to in the region as well as their temporary exhibition on Japan which while not extensive was enjoyable. I recommend getting the three or five museum pass to get the best value for a one or two day stay in Le Puy.

####I've visited a few other fine art museums and enjoyed always my experience, here was smaller but I actually spent longer as they provided comfy seating almost throughout; To sit relaxed and admire a painting is what fine art should be about. The exhibition of self portraits and the quality of the down lighting was superb. Explanation in french and in English taught me things I didn't know and I came away, a more learned person. Thank you.

Truly amazing dining experience. Very well balanced and presented. I had mackarel and cod and both were excellent. I reserved on-line a few hours before coming. A very minor drawback was someone smoking at a table far from me, but I could still smell it a bit, as a minor distraction. That is more of a criticism of the French attitudes towards this repulsive addiction. I would love to return to this place.
Juris K — Google review
This place gets my stars. Stupendous presentation of all food - almost too beautiful to eat. Gracious, informative and attentive bilingual service. But the taste of the food the best. I can still taste the kohlrabi in the amuse-bouche, the luscious spray surrounding my cod in sauce over barley - sounds pedestrian but it was anything but (see picture). Scrumptious dessert of lightly liquor-soaked cake and chocolate - so many flavors I ate it in tiny pieces to experience it all. French food is fine and elegant but this was far beyond what we’d experienced. Not cheap but why are you in France? Experience this!

The basilica features a towering statue and a stunning cave chapel built into volcanic rock, offering amazing views across Puy en Velay. While the statue may be closed for safety reasons at times, visitors can still explore the lovely church and its small shop selling refreshments.
Don’t miss the ‘grotte’ cave built into the volcanic rock. Amazing views across Puy en Velay. Plenty of parking in the square below opposite centre de gymnase. No parking fee. No entry fee to the church. There is a small shop that sells cold drinks and coffee.

Lovely little church. It was a little sad to see nobody there, other than myself. But it was good that I can have my private moment of prayer. The gatev that led to the giant statue was closed. So, I guessed it wasn't open on that day (1st Friday of the month). They was a piety shop there. And it was open, nice place to look around. On hindsight, I could've asked the last tending the shop if it was closed for the day, or they open the gate for access only when requested.🙁

Unfortunately the statue was closed for safety reasons, but the small cave chapel is stunning.

(Translated by Google) Built in 1221 then enlarged in the 14th century, the Saint-Laurent church is the only Gothic church in Puy-en-Velay. Located a stone's throw from the town center and the Rocher St Michel, accessible to PRMs with parking nearby and ramp at the entrance. This work is regularly restored, the new lighting of the facades highlights it when evening arrives. Right next to the church, there is a square equipped with games for children and where you can stroll along the water's edge. This is a great way to have a good time and see beautiful things. For those who write that there's no organization, I totally disagree, and what's more, the Roi de l'oiseau is a party when you do it a bit as you want!! And it's very well signposted everywhere. As for parking, okay, it's complicated, but it can be organized, the Roi de l'oiseau, so that means you find accommodation with parking or parking and you go on foot, it's logical that you don't go to the station in the middle of Le Puy, you just have to be logical!!! (Translated by Google) Very disappointed by the organization of this party. I couldn't take advantage of it. I came to spend just one day there for the first time to get an idea. I didn't stay more than an hour because I was very unhappy with the organization: No signage upon my arrival at Le Puy. No signage for parking. Parking impossible except a little far from the event but nothing is planned for visitors from outside Le Puy, as if this event is reserved for ponots. Once parked a little far away, it was impossible to find my way to know how to get to the party (still no signage). In addition, the only toilet that I found with great difficulty was extremely dirty and the door did not lock. That said, this bad experience does not discourage me. But if I come back next year it will be to spend two days there going to the hotel because I can park my car there and do the rest on foot. On the other hand, I ask you to install more toilets and make them clean. Merci

(Translated by Google) I came to visit the Hôtel Dieu for its architecture and its museum value, but it's impossible to visit without indulging in the COMPOSTELLA show, billed as "unique immersive scenographies in a magical place." They are undoubtedly unique, but only in the ridiculousness of their execution, since the technique used is completely commonplace in 2025 (see the Festival of Lights in Lyon, for example). The first act, on freedom, with jumbled images and a mismatched soundtrack: I had never imagined that gypsy jazz (which I otherwise like) could illustrate the Declaration of the Rights of Man... The second act, a tearing apart of Impressionist paintings and their recomposition. It's of no interest. Finally, a projection of geometric drawings that failed to fit the geometry of the room's vaults. The few spectators were checking their smartphones, wondering, and waiting (standing) for it to pass, while wondering if it was worth enduring more than an hour of this thing before visiting the museum.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed visiting the Hôtel-Dieu and its digital art center in Le-Puy-en-Velay. Following my visit in September 2025, I can give you a complete and concise presentation of the Hôtel-Dieu and its complex, with everything you need to know: The Hôtel-Dieu of Le Puy-en-Velay, located in the heart of the cathedral district, adjoins the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral (2 rue Becdelièvre, 43000 Le Puy-en-Velay). This historic monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, rises on the hillside, accessible via the cathedral's grand staircase. 🔍 What you'll discover: Compostella Digital Art Center (formerly "Hôtel des Lumières"): three to five immersive 360° scenographies, combining projections and sound creation. For example: A "Liberty, I draw your name" scene in homage to Lafayette, A dive into the world of Leonardo da Vinci, The chapel in lights with animations under Gothic vaults, And the 3D mini-cathedrals in the "Salle des Cuves" Art & Heritage Space (CIAP): permanent and temporary exhibitions on history, medieval pharmacy, local heritage, educational workshops, and a contemporary work by Jean-Michel Othoniel, "The Heart of the Hôtel-Dieu." You can also admire one of the most beautiful medieval hospital pharmacies in France. ✨ Atmosphere & Decor: The venue combines medieval architectural beauty (Gothic vaults, courtyards, frescoes) with modern technologies (video mapping, immersive projections). The atmosphere oscillates between traditional and futuristic, bathed in rich, musical lighting. Visitors appreciate this encounter between the past and digital art for a unique visual and emotional experience. 👍 What I liked about my visit: The immersive and sensory aspect of the 360° digital experiences. The heritage expertise (altars, pharmacy, apothecary), and the enhancement through multimedia devices. A family-friendly venue, suitable for young people and history buffs alike. The architectural harmony: courtyards, porch, inner courtyard, and breathtaking views of Le Puy. ℹ️ Prices & Opening Hours: Full price: around €9, concessions (under 18/students) €8, youth (under 15) €6, free for under 6s (free ticket required). Opening Hours 2025: July–August: daily. September: Wednesday to Sunday. October–November: weekends and holidays. Payment methods: cash, credit card, holiday/culture vouchers, ANCV (French National Cultural Heritage Centre) 🛎️ Practical information & reservations: Booking recommended online (Compostella website or Tourist Office) or directly at reception. Permanent individual tours, with audio/guide in French and English upon request. Group tours (min. 20 people) & half-day packages including meals + guided tours + digital shows, from €48/person. ✅ In summary, I can say that the Hôtel-Dieu, adjacent to the cathedral of Le Puy-en-Velay, is a medieval monument renovated into a renowned digital art center. Compostella offers immersive shows (Leonardo da Vinci, frescoes, mini-cathedrals) in a remarkable historical setting, with heritage exhibitions and a medieval pharmacy. The atmosphere combines visual excitement, historical sensitivity, and technological modernity, appealing to young and old alike. Open in summer and fall, the tour can be planned online, at very affordable prices (€9 full price). A must-see during a visit to Le Puy! I recommend you visit the Hôtel-Dieu and its digital art center. I have attached some photos and videos. Please add a smiley face, a thumbs-up, a heart, etc., under the review and photos to encourage me in my efforts. It's always nice to receive kind feedback. Enjoy your visit. Best regards. Éric Tison F-57 Féy (Metz. Moselle. France).. Bonne visite. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Le Camino, also known as the Chemin de Saint-Jacques, is a historical pilgrimage route that attracts travelers from all over the world. In Le Puy-en-Velay, visitors can explore a museum that delves into the rich history of this famous path. The museum showcases exhibitions focusing on various aspects of the Camino, including personal accounts from past pilgrims and spiritual lessons from monks and priests who have made the journey. Additionally, there are captivating watercolor paintings on display.
For the bar: Great drinks at amazing prices For the museum: 4€ entry. Good modern museum in beautiful old building. A bit too much focus on audio for my liking. If you want to take in all the information you wil spend a lot of time just listening to audio testimonials without a lot of things to look at. If you're not French speaking you receive a tablet which automatically shows you the right information depending on which room you're in and which works very well (it felt like I had a better experience thanks to the tablet compared to french speakers with just a paper map)

Great service for walkers on the Camino. Unfortunately for me, no English speakers.

Not so interesting in my opinion, museum consists mainly of audio files

(Translated by Google) A museum housed in a surprising building, organized on several levels: the visit begins at the top and continues down, which is quite original. True to its vocation, the place welcomes you as a simple curious visitor... and makes you want to leave as a pilgrim. (Translated by Google) I really enjoyed visiting the Camino, the museum dedicated to the Way of St. James in Le-Puy-en-Velay. Following my visit in September 2025, I can give you a complete and concise presentation of the Camino and its surroundings, with everything you want to know: 📍 Location & Neighborhood: Located at 2, rue de la Manécanterie, in the old town, right next to Notre-Dame Cathedral – a historic district and a major pilgrimage site via the Via Podiensis. Housed in the superb former Hôtel Saint-Vidal, with Gallo-Roman remains and murals on four floors. 🎪 What you can see: Immersive scenography recounting the journey: videos, lighting effects, models, educational furniture, audio testimonies. Themes covered: departure, encounter, suffering, perseverance, spiritual quest. Temporary exhibitions (10th anniversary, painting, exhibition: Treasures of the Bible). "Manécanterie" space dedicated to the former boarding school: Latin and Gregorian chant, as well as the adjacent Diocesan Museum. ☕ Atmosphere & Decor: An atmosphere blending mystery, serenity, and interiority, with spiritual calligraphy in an ancient architectural setting. Mgr Henri Brincard Garden Café, a haven of peace open to all, with drinks, waffles, soups, and outdoor tables at the foot of the cathedral. 👍 What I liked about my visit: Interactive sensory immersion and strong emotion. Warm welcome for pilgrims: advice, discussions with the association, Friends of Saint-Jacques du Velay, distribution of the Credencial. A place of renewal, accessible to pilgrims, tourists, and locals alike. 🛠️ Special Features: A museum, pilgrimage center, visitor center, and friendly café. Located in a protected architectural complex (Hôtel Saint-Vidal, cathedral, Hôtel-Dieu), listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Multilingual interaction: guided tours, tablets in English/German, children's questionnaire. ⏰ Prices & Opening Hours: Period Days / Hours Adult Rates Rates for Under-12s. April–June, September–October 2–6 pm (last entry 5:30 pm) €4, €2 July–August 11 am–7:30 pm (last entry 7 pm) €4, €2 Generally open from April 1st to October 15th. Free or half-price for children (under 12). ℹ️ Practical information & reservations: Visit duration: approximately 45 minutes solo, 60 minutes in groups. Reservations: Not required for individual visits; groups of 20 or more upon request. Pilgrim welcome: Complimentary drinks (glass of friendship) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. from April 1st to October 15th. Credentials sold on site, useful for stamping the road book. Languages spoken: French, English, German. ✍️ In short, the Camino is a scenic space and museum located in the former Hôtel Saint-Vidal, in the old town of Le Puy, a stone's throw from the cathedral. It offers an interactive immersion into the Camino de Santiago through videos, models, and personal accounts. Pilgrims are welcomed every evening by the local association, with advice and the sale of credentials. The adjacent garden café offers a gourmet break in a peaceful setting. Open from April to October, the visit costs €4, with a reduced rate for children, and also includes a welcome and activities. I recommend a visit to the Camino (Museum dedicated to the Way of St. James). I've attached some photos and videos. Please add a smiley face, a thumbs-up, a heart, etc., under the review and photos to encourage me in my endeavors. It's always nice to receive kind feedback. Enjoy your visit. Bonne visite. Chateau de Bouzols is a stunning private castle located in a picturesque valley, offering guided tours from July to early September. The entry fee contributes to the restoration of the site, which has faced weather-related challenges. The guided tours provide captivating insights into the castle's rich history and architectural significance. While only two interior rooms are showcased during the tour, the guide adeptly explains the castle's architecture and its compelling story.

Le Chamarlenc is a relatively new restaurant located in the old city center of Le Puy. It offers a refined and cozy dining experience with gastronomic cuisine. The food is described as Michelin-level, featuring inventive and tender interplay of flavors with international influences, especially Japanese. Dishes are beautifully presented and consistently impeccable from amuse-bouche to dessert. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, resembling a cozy country home.
A relatively new restaurant in Le Puy and an instant favorite. The food is michelin-level, inventive, tender interplay of tastes, international influence, especially japanese, beautifully presented. It is very rare even in top restaurants, that every dish from amuse-bouche to desert is impeccable and just a pleasure to savour. Here it is consistently the case. The service is very warm and welcoming, the atmosphere like a cozy country home. You forget the outside world for a brief moment and leaving the place is actually like leaving good memories behind. All the more reason to come again!

French restaurant
Nestled in the charming old town of Le Puy-en-Velay, just a stone's throw from the stunning cathedral, lies Comme A la Maison. This delightful restaurant was established by local culinary icon Guillaume Fourcade and showcases his innovative approach to French cuisine. The menu features a creative blend of regional ingredients, offering both meat lovers and vegans an array of delectable options tailored to individual tastes.
Simply superb. The best meal I have had in a really long time, and so far the best on a 3 week tour de france. Cannot say enough how good the food was. The value is incredible, the prices humble for what is simply delicious, honest, elegant food. This is what dining should be! Every flavor jumped off the plate, different textures combining in playful and satisfying ways. Truly a gem!

We have been to this place, and at first they don’t have a wine list, the waitress tell you like 10 different kinds of wine without telling you the prices. Then my daughter ask for a vegetarian plate that came with a worm, and in my husband’s dish came with a rock and he broke his tooth, the chef came to our table saying he was so “ desolee” but they did not evem gave us a penny of discount. And the food was less than ok. Bad experience in such a nice town such as Le Puy en Velay.

While I was there, they only have a set daily menu. Basically, you eat what the chef was making that day. That's my understanding, I don't speak French well enough to enquire more about their menu, or operation. Service was very helpful, hospitable and friendly. The girl that served me had little understanding of English and she did not seemed put off at all by having to serve me, in any way. I think this place is a local favourite and a good spot for people watch. It scored little for me because of the wanton smoking. I guess there was no law forbidding smoking in public places in France, as there are in the 2 countries I live/work in: Australia & Malaysia. So, I wasn't used to that at all. Unfortunately, that did dampened my experience there. But food and service top notch! Highly recommended for people who don't mind the smell of (tobacco) smoke.
