Jardim do Paço Episcopal, also known as the Bishops palace garden, is a charming Baroque garden located in Castelo Branco, Portugal. Established in 1725, it features a delightful array of fountains, sculptures depicting historical Portuguese figures and saints, and even includes a playground for children. The garden is adjacent to the Paco Episcopal and boasts an assortment of trees, five lakes, and a grand staircase.
We really had awful weather (storm) but even with the rain I can say it's worth to see! Beautiful place, thanks to the storm we were alone there we had time to see everything 😅 Amazing oranges, beautiful sculptures and fountains make a great atmosphere... 3€ for entrance is ok price.

Pretty place, really interesting in some parts. Worth visiting, tho I was intimidated by the staff a little
Rozalia S — Google review
Very beautiful and interesting gardens. Well worth a visit. Maybe not for children, but the park across the road definitely is. They are small gardens with many steps. I've never seen a similar garden with so many statues.

Mücahit K — Google review
This is how to look after a garden. Beautiful water features very well put together with flowers and pruned foliage. Statues for days and more water features. All this for 2 euros an adult....get in. Worth if for the photos alone. The public park opposite is a gem too.
David O — Google review
A truly wonderful park. Well kept, colorful, wide space, lovely natural and man-made decoration. A playground area for children, a cafe makes of it a good meeting place, and then woods area offers good shade from the harsher sun.
Nelson D — Google review
A pretty garden with small fountain and lakes with an abundance of statues. It is located at the back of the old palace that served as the residence of several bishops of Guarda and later those of Castelo Branco. The statues are representing many figures, from kings and bishops to the symbol of each month or elements like fire. It is also adjacent to the Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior Museum which was the residence of the bishops. I recommend visiting this lovely park to everyone. The explanations are in Portuguese and also in English. Opening Hours: April to September: 09h00-19h00;October to March 09h00-17h00. Entrance fee: 2€.
Maryam K — Google review
A beautiful place in Castelo Branco! This was the third time I went to the city and I can say I regret not going earlier to this amazing garden! The place itself is not that big, we are not talking about a huge park here, but rather a cozy and really beautiful small garden. What I found interesting about this place is the mix between the green and the statues. You can go and try to find what's written under the statues as a fun way to explore the place. Onde suggestion though would be to change the font under the statues, it looks way to much modern compared to the place history, I would rather see a hand drawn label than something that looks like an A4 printed at home. Apart from that, the place is totally worth going and amazing to take pictures. You only have to pay 2€ to get in but its worth it! A nice day trip to Castelo Branco.

Specialty Museums
The Museu Cargaleiro is an exceptional institution that showcases changing art exhibits and houses the collection of renowned artist Manuel Cargaleiro. It occupies two distinct buildings, a historical 18th-century residence on Knights Street and a contrasting modern structure. The museum boasts an impressive array of ceramic tableware for those interested in the history of ceramics. The Cargaleiro section within the museum features a vast assortment of his artistic creations, alongside remarkable pieces by internationally acclaimed ceramic artists.
An interesting collection of the works of the contemporary artist Manuel Cargaleiro, including ceramics and painting. The museum is constituted of two buildings, historic and contemporary. In the historic building mainly exhibits the ceramics, divided in to different rooms based on the patterns. Besides, the library and the shop are also in this building. Meawhile, the contemporary building hosts the artist's paintings, contemporary ceramics. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 10AM–1PM, 2–6PM. (The historic building dates back to the 18th century and it was named "Solar dos Cavaleiros". This building was a place to shelter lonely women with rough life stories and also for unwanted children. There is the remaining of a window at the reception of the museum where in the past the parents of the unwanted child used to leave their baby and a person from inside the house will take the baby. the structure of that window was designed in a way that people from the inside would not see the person who left the baby, to protect their identity)

Museum holds exhibitions of wonderful artwork. Definately inspiring, well maintained and really affordable. We spent a great time there and staff was super nice and helpful
Rozalia S — Google review
Really nice museum with mainly ceramic exhibits and some artwork from Manuel Cargalheiro, for national students it’s free to visit
Herco C — Google review
A very neat clean gallery devoted primarily to the work of Cargaleiro. Personally I was very disappointed as I felt that the majority of the "art" could have been created by a 3 year old using the non dominant hand. If this is what sells then I should become an artist and retire. There was also an exhibition of some glazed pottery items.
Melville ( — Google review
Great museum. It shows many great pieces by the master painter and potter Cargaleiro as well as some other pieces of his collection by other artists.

If you have any interest in the history of ceramics the museum has a fine selection of tableware. Castelo Branco Castle, perched on a hill above the city, is not actually white despite its name. The stone fortress offers a glimpse into history with one remaining tower and sections of walls. Although not Portugal's most impressive castle, the site rewards visitors with stunning views, including a conical hill crowned by Ermida de Sao Martinho to the Southeast. Built in the 12th century under King Afonso II's orders, only remnants of the medieval structure remain today.
Free access. Beautiful sunset. Walked up from our Airbnb by foot. Could drive but very narrow streets will almost literally take you through people’s living rooms.

Retiro do Caçador is a charming restaurant in Castelo Branco, known for its focus on game dishes and traditional regional recipes. The cozy establishment offers complete meals at a great value, including soup, main course, drink, and coffee. Guests praise the varied and delicious menu options as well as the friendly staff. The restaurant's menu of the day, featuring dessert and coffee for an affordable price, has received high praise for its homemade quality.
Incredible 3 course lunch with olives and bread, wine and coffee for €12 each. Highly recommended are the wild boar casserole and the mixed pork.
Mark H — Google review
Really enjoyed our meals- turkey stew and mixed pork grill. Staff were lovely. For 12€ you get soup, main, dessert a drink and coffee. Great value!
Andrew S — Google review
We went for dinner, we both had the alheira. The alheira was a bit greasy but the fries and the rice were tasty. I also had the desert, pudim flan. Was a bit insipid, but asked without sugar coat, so maybe was because of that. The owners were very friendly! It was nice to contribute a bit for keeping the place open. Would return again
Antonieta L — Google review
Small family run restaurant with the best traditional dishes of the area. Very well served, very well priced, deserts and espresso available as well. Recommend the wild boar stew or ribs with a pitcher of house wine! Can't go wrong. Every time I'm in Portugal we stop in for lunch, lovely owners.
PhiL V — Google review
Four of us visited last week, twice, as it was so good the first time. An earlier review complains that his meal coast €12. Mine did, and was a massive plate of gorgeous veal, with rice, chips and a few bits of salad. Delicious and good value. The Wild Boar stew is also great.
Two B — Google review
Looks like a popular restaurant in town. Good meal I had here. I had carrot soup and wild boar stew .. it was very nice and served really well. Not expensive. The stew was provided with rice and fries .. (🫤 fries everywhere). A restaurant that calls himself "typical food" shouldn't serve food with fries .. that's my take. Stew with fries 🤷‍♂️. For dessert i had the classic "arroz doce" - also super generous (sweet rice). Anyways was good and recommend. Special shout out to the staf: very friendly and familiar atmosphere.

Restaurant Mãos de Horta is a charming and welcoming place with a calm ambiance, offering fantastic service and superb vegetarian food. The menu consists of tasting options to be savored without rush. The restaurant has a historical and quirky atmosphere with artistic decor, creating a delightful dining experience. The dishes are made from ingredients available in their garden at the time, ensuring a varied menu that caters to both vegetarians and carnivores.
Excellent experience!! Total 3 of us went today without reservation. Luckily they were able to serve us also. Probably one of the best meals we have in Portugal! Nice vibe, music, and food presentation is definitely 5 star! Our waiter has been really helpful. Well worth it!!

Best restaurant in Castelo Branco, for sure. High energy local seasonal food from nearby farm, ASTONISHING outside & inside areas, and extremely friendly staff. Gluten-free vegetarian in Castelo Branco😅
M M — Google review
The place is beautiful and the concept is great, but sadly it was a bad experience. We waited almost one hour for the main dish, there was no warning or communication about the delay. And unfortunately what arrived was just not good, way too salty, the pasta had apparently run out and was replaced with glass noodles which made the texture very sloppy. There were only two other tables occupied, and they also seemed to wait a long time. Perhaps there was staff shortages in the kitchen, the other reviews seem positive, but our experience was negative.
Isabelle — Google review
What a beautiful restaurant! So happy to have found this place. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful, excellent service and such delicious food, really enjoyed the chefs menu of the day concept. Will certainly be returning when we are in the area again. Highly recommend 👌🏼
Jen A — Google review
A delight. The place is historical and quirky with artefacts and modern bits and pieces put together artistically. The food is made from what is available in their garden at the time, so the menu is varied. It is a vegetarian restaurant but with enough flavour and interesting food to make carnivores happy too. It is well priced for the unusual yet delicious fayre, though the meals are not large. It feels like a nice healthy treat and the waiting on staff are polite yet chatty, making the whole experience perfect. I will return. Well done this place 😊
Bev M — Google review
Beautiful restaurant with great vegetarian food. Every day the chef cooks a dish depending on what vegetables are available from the farm. So there is an element of surprise there that we loved. In addition to that great service and very affordable price. We went for lunch twice during our stay. Definitely recommend!
Irina M — Google review
It is a place to enjoy the food and the friendliness of the staff. We spoke to Eliza who was very friendly and advised us well about available options. The dishes are delicious and the place, although hidden, has its charm being inside the restaurant! Without a doubt, a place to go and enjoy the vegetarian food! Great attention and good food and all very well priced.
Feliz P — Google review
Very good vegetarian experience. The restaurant does not have a regular menu since it will cook what comes from its farm, thus avoiding food waste and serving fresh local food with sustainability in mind. The dishes are beautifully arranged and the food is very tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and pleasant. There's a corner with a fireplace. Definitely worthwhile!

Great place to spend a day with the kids. Pool is large enough to have a good workout swimming or walking . Grass areas, plenty of shade, sandbox and chairs. Always a lovely place to visit. The pool is clean, easily accesisble, with plenty of parking. The restaurant is busy, so if you can take a picnic, it is recommended. Alternatively, eat outside of peak periods. Previously, when booking chairs we could book an umbrella on their app, but this has since changed, so it is often worth not bothering late in the day as people spread themselves out, taking all available shade.

Restaurante Piscina Praia has become quite a pleasant surprise in recent months. The food is outstanding, and they offer a diverse buffet daily (excluding Mondays) at an attractive price on weekdays, with a slightly higher cost on weekends. The restaurant provides stunning views and is perfect for relaxing with the family. They also have an excellent selection of wines available. The staff are friendly and accommodating; the only drawback mentioned by customers is their absence from Google Maps.

After 1h:30min waiting we got our food. Some beef kebab and shrimp and squid kebab. The former was ok. But the later was totally overcooked. With both squid and shrimp totally dry. It felt like eating dry hay.

(Translated by Google) For the second time, after a year to see if things would change, we again received terrible service. We waited for a long time, had to pay at the table before our food and drinks were served, orders were incorrect, and charged 0.30 cents for a tiny plastic cup with two ice cubes and half a lemon slice. When asked about the tiny cup, the response was "that's just how it is." The long wait for our food continues (about an hour). It seems that year after year nothing changes, even with written complaints. Once again, a cross is crossed. Not everything is terrible; the natural/homemade ice cream is of fabulous quality, unlike everything else. I really wanted to rate Cabra Preta with a 5, as the cod was delicious and my previous experience there was very positive. However, the pork cheeks were somewhat tough and I found that the roasted potatoes weren't fully cooked, which ultimately affected my overall opinion. The staff was friendly, but I did notice some disorganization within the restaurant. On a different occasion, I visited for Sunday lunch and was pleased with the warm welcome from their friendly staff.
Great local dishes. The Deer stew was amazing. The desert was also from local recipe. Topped off with the homemade sweet liqeur on-the-house. Doesn’t get much better.

We loved this restaurant, serving traditional dishes. The plates are well presented and the food is very tasty, with well balanced flavours. We liked the white house wine, sweet and fresh. The service was effective and attentive. The extractor fan above the dining tables is a bit odd and we felt a fresh breeze coming from there. Highly recommended in Castelo Branco.

For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Parque do Barrocal. Despite the temporary closure of the café due to Covid-19, visitors can still enjoy their time in this beautifully designed park that features various attractions such as observation decks, wooden paths, terraces, and bird watching points.

Charming park. Real nature and lovely boulders. Free entrance, about 3 km to walk inside.
Gabriel V — Google review
I have been to this place a fair few times as I live in the city of Castelo Branco. It's free to get in, which is one of the reasons I have been there multiple times, plus it is on the route of one of my evening walks. I don't really understand the point of this park, it really is just a pile of rocks just like the rest of the region. Except that here they have built some walkways and viewing platforms to help you get about. They have also built a rather odd tunnel and a large teepee thing out of slatted wood. The reason for the former escapes me completely. Frankly, it feels more like a place for people who would like to go mountaineering, but they are scared of heights. You are never more than a few metres above the ground here even on the highest platform. In fact, I would venture to say that the highest place is actually the slides in the kids' play area. The place does offer some impressive views of the local landscape including the castle the city is named after. I generally view the place as a good site for a bit of a low-level workout, as here you are permitted to climb over pretty much any rock formation you fancy. All over the place there are signs giving some pretty tenuous reasons to take an interest in the collection of boulders you are walking over. They are written in both Portuguese and English. Something that is not written in English, is the emergency escape instructions and route. I will let you come up with your own reasons for that one. If you are in Castelo Branco and have a couple of hours to spare and fancy clambering over some low-level boulders, then give this place a visit. After all, it is free to do. And it really is the main reason to go. That and you will get to see some good views of the area.

I choose the roasted potatoes and goatling served with organs rice and oh my! It was delicious! My daughter had the vegetable soup and a vegetarian dish “leek à bras” that according to her was delicious.
Silvino S — Google review
We had lunch at restaurant Kalifa because it’s next to a car park. My boyfriend was really hungry, so we didn’t think too much and fell into a TOURIST TRAP!! We had very bad experience. Firstly a waitress served us a basket of bread, 2 small croquettes, few olives and 4-5 mini travel-sized cheese and butter which we didn’t order. She didn’t tell us how much they charged. I thought such little things wouldn’t be expensive, so I didn’t ask about the price, and the menu also didn’t show the price of these little appetizers. Then we ordered crunchy chicken wings and drumsticks (€8/5pieces), 2 x Kalifa style pork loin (€13,5 each) and 1.5L bottled water (€2,5). At the same time, a waiter served us another small appetizer “pig ears” which we didn’t order. He said it’s delicious but we didn’t like it at all. They were bland and just soaked in oil. We guessed chicken wings and drumsticks were frozen stuffs. They just deep fried them but the inside of drumsticks were still cold. Lastly, the presentation of “Kalifa style” pork was really mediocre. Combinations were odd too. 4 pieces of bite-sized pork chop, a half slice of tomato, 1 shrimp, some soggy French fries and dried rice. The whole dish was tasteless and greasy. As it was kalifa style, I supposed it must be their “signature” dish, but I was totally wrong. At the end, the bill was €50. They charged about €10 for those little appetizers which we didn’t order. Overcharged and bad food!! I strongly DON’T recommend it.

During my recent visit to Otaru Sushi in Castelo Branco, I had a mixed experience. While the ambiance of the restaurant was comfortable, it lacked music, which made for a quieter atmosphere. The staff's attentiveness varied; although some were friendly and eager to assist despite language barriers, others seemed less engaged. However, the highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the sushi itself—beautifully presented and absolutely delicious!
The place is very comfortable. The only thing I noticed is that it has no music. The waitress looks a bit sad and not much of a talker. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS. I highly reccomend it for people who like sushi.
Ben S — Google review
From where should I start... First, we are received by a waitress, very rude, sad, and that clearly doesn't want to be there... During all my experience at this restaurant, this has been the mood. I thought that she might have confused me with someone that owns her money, and that this might be the reason for not seeing even one smile... Not even a forced one. The environment... Let's say, it was not so much appealing, and with a little smell coming from the toilet, that smells wonderfully to sewers... A very strong smell that comes to the dinner room... The food... The sushi was with reduced doses of fish, let's say that it was good for a low price restaurant, but let's face it, there are other restaurants in Castelo Branco, serving the same type of food, but better served, with more tuna and salmon. The kitchen food (in this case battered chicken steak and french fries), are microwave reheated. So in terms of food, not a good experience also. At the end, fried ice-cream flambé with Rum... Usually in all the other restaurants, they put a little bit of sugar with the rum and they light the fire... This has a reason, that is for the sugar to caramelise and give a little bit of more taste... In this case, it was just rum and fire on it... As a result, it was good to know, but probably a place to not return!

This place is a nightmare, service is very dysfunctional, feels like being in an abusive relationship, like you’ve done something wrong or are bothering them. The price is very low and so is the quality of the sushi. Never coming back.

Very bad rude service. Sushi very avarage Price is ok if you want to eat something fast the interior is very old and the feeling of a school kantine. The service the girl that is working there looks very tired and was very rude and unhappy will not go again

The food is heavenly. The place looks a bit like a cafe but is acceptable. We had lunch there with friends. The service was OK but the server was a little miserable and could not find a smile. Perhaps she had experienced a recent bereavement so I should not judge. Value for money was good as this was a fixed price buffet. The food arrived promptly and was lovely and hot. The problem came with the bill. What restaurant these days is unable to accept cards? I had to run out of the place to try to find the nearest auto teller. Not a very happy ending to a delicious meal. A point to note. One of the servers refused to remove empty drinks cans when delivering fresh ones.

At first this was a nice place but now it’s terrible. The fried food was greasy and disgusting, everything had a ton of cold rice and barely any fresh ingredients. It’s not even a good deal anymore.

Poor quality food. If you order 2 portions you only receive 1. The server wasn't very friendly. The tables chairs and walls aren't very clean.

Tabuas.Come is a recently opened eatery located in the heart of Castelo Branco. This new establishment takes inspiration from the region's culinary tradition and specializes in steaks. With an elegant ambiance and attentive service, guests can expect a refined dining experience. Even on a busy Saturday evening, one can appreciate why this place draws crowds – the food is exceptional, accompanied by friendly service and thoughtful details such as truffle butter and freshly baked bread.
Fantastic food, excellent quality meat, friendly service. We came here twice for dinner because the food and desserts were amazing. Highly recommended

We just left the restaurant and it was so lovely that I immediately felt compelled to write this review. Eveything was simply perfect, lovely starters, delicious main dishes, and an exquisite dessert. I must also tip my hat off to the wonderful staff that works in this restaurant, they made the evening all the more enjoyable. If you're nearby please do yourself a favour and drop by, I can promise you won't regret it.✨

For starters we had a plate of nachos, guacamole, truffle butter, olives, bread and a dish of mushrooms, everything was delicious. For mains we ordered 300 grams of rib eye steak which was served in a very special way but was a little dry on the edges but was tasty and tender in the centre. The meal comes with fries and vegetables. For dessert we had a peanut pie with a touch of salt which was excellent.
Nitzhiya L — Google review
Amazing food and service. The food portions are very generous and the quality was absolutely excellent. The wine list offers a vast diversity of choices and has options for everyone. The vibe is very cozy and soothing. An other important point is that fact the menu clearly indicates all allergens for every dish. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you very much for a such a great experience.

We have been here a few times the latest for my birthday, all the staff are super friendly and helpful and the food is always lovely. They even brought a candle in my desert as it was my birthday.

We dropped in unexpectedly on a Saturday night and were lucky enough to get the only unbooked table. This place is VERY busy and it’s easy to see why! The food was exceptionally good and the service very friendly and the little touches like truffle butter and warm homemade bread elevated it from the usual restaurant. The only downside was the very bright lighting and the strong tasting swordfish - everything else was perfection. Will definitely return if I’m in the area again.

I was positively surprised. Food, service and the place was all above average. It is not a place to be with rush, but a very good place to go with friends or personal company.

Historical landmark
Celeiro da Ordem de Cristo, formerly a public granary belonging to the Order of Christ, has been repurposed as a restaurant called Maos de Obra. This historic building served as a granary until the 19th century and now offers visitors the opportunity to dine in a unique setting with a rich historical background.

(Translated by Google) The history of this building dates back to medieval times, when it belonged to the Order of Christ. For centuries, it was used as a public granary. It was only in the 16th century that it underwent major alterations, acquiring the form we know today. At the end of the 18th century, it came into the possession of the City Council, as the granary of Monte Pio. In 1853, it was already owned by a private individual, Rafael José da Cunha, but at the end of the 19th century, it was converted into a prison under a lease agreement. In 1927, it finally came into private ownership. In the 1990s, the first floor was restored to house the "Praça Velha" restaurant. It currently houses the " Mãos de Horta" restaurant. A brief description of the building reveals the two-story main façade, the first with two barred, double-leaf windows, with a tombstone in the center. The portal has a straight lintel topped by two bas-reliefs, a cross of Christ and an armillary sphere. On the second floor, two double-leaf windows with a flag.

In the 17th century, it underwent significant renovations, particularly to the rear façade. The building was restored in 1994. The building itself dates back to 16th century and served as multiple functions throughout history; from Castelo Branco Municipal Council, then prison and also as a library. The current exhibition, presents different embroidery techniques, their history, the material used and their current status in economy. Moreover there are some unique handmade dresses and other artefacts for sale there. If you're on the hunt for a delicious burger experience, look no further than Hamburgueria da Baixa. After catching a football match, I decided to treat myself to one of their renowned burgers and was blown away by the quality. The meat was top-notch, and while the chips could have been served hotter, they were still delightful. The atmosphere is clean and inviting, with friendly staff who are more than willing to assist—especially if you need help navigating the menu in English.
After watching the football we decided to go to get a burger. We saw the reviews for this place and decided to go and omg what a fantastic meal we had. The cooking is great although for us the chips could have been hotter but the burger was just amazing. We were going to have a pancake too but we were so full up we decided to go back soon to try them out. The place is clean and so are the toilets. The staff are lovely and very friendly and the prices for the amount and quality are good. We will be back and for us its an hour drive but as we said its the best burger place we have found yet. The parking is bad in that area so be prepared for a good walk. We will be back. Happy munching!

Well I used to like this restaurant, but after hobbling there with my cane a whole hour and a half before they are supposed to be closed, the sign saying they are open, yet being turned away, I don't think I'll be back. If you are mobile impaired it's simply not worth the risk knowing they don't honor their hours.

Among the worst food i've eaten so far in Portugal! I agree with others that the potatoes were not bad! But the burger I ate was horrible, no taste، just like raw meat. The waiter offered to cook it more!!! Really!? you are eating a hamburger 🍔 suddenly you have to hand it back to someone else to grill it again 🤮🤮🤮It's not acceptable to pay 10.60 € and you order a pork free burger and the first thing you get 2 stripes of bacon crossing your hamburger and then almost vomit when you go back to my hotel. Skip this location to somewhere else!
Moh C — Google review
Delicious burger, the meat was top quality, the chips were fresh and cooked perfectly, loved the garlic aioli that came with it. The staff were very friendly and attentive, had an English menu for us, when they saw us struggling with Google translate. Would highly recommend. Lovely vibes.

Good space to taste a burger, very cozy and modern. The variety of burgers is nice, but the taste do not excel. Price is nice for the size of the burger. However the service is very very slow, and the food is far from worth the waiting time.

I like a good burger and this was a good one. We ate outside in the drizzle but the large canopy kept us dry. The staff spoke English and were helpful. The burger, a double deck affair, was large, tasty and came with great chips. It was about €10 with a drink and well worth it.
Two B — Google review
Great English speaking staff and great food. We are dairy free and the staff was aware that the homemade hamburger buns contained dairy so suggested that we could order a hamburger without the bun or order their chicken salad. I had a burger without the bun or cheese with chips (fries) and my partner had the chicken salad, both were delicious and good portion size. Additionally, to my delight, the beef was ground beef, which was much better in my opinion than the gristly "steak" offered in your typical Portuguese hamburger shops. The chips were great as well. Highly recommended!

I have previously indulged in waygu beef at a top-notch eatery in Brisbane, Australia. Additionally, I've personally prepared a mouthwatering prime rib eye waygu steak from one of Australia's largest cattle stations. Naturally, I was eagerly anticipating the waygu steaks at Restaurante Akasushi, and I can confidently say that Luis and his staff did not disappoint.
What an exceptional and refreshing addition to Castelo Branco?! The atmosphere gives off Manhattan vibes. The food is fresh and delicious. We will continue to be patrons.

We had a really disappointing visit. The service was poor, and although the tables were set, the tablecloths were not ironed and looked scruffy. The menu had plenty of options. We chose a mixed sushi platter, noodles, and a 'Gladiator Burger'. The food arrived in good time and was well-presented. The burger was extremely tough, and I left the majority of it as it was overcooked and dry. The sushi was tasteless, and ingredients in the noodles were burned (the burnt taste overpowered the prawns and noodles) and was not enjoyable. There are alternative sushi restaurants available locally, I would visit these.beofre considering here.

I've had waygu beef before, served in one of the best restaurants in Brisbane, Australia. I've had prime rib eye waygu I've cooked myself from one of the biggest cattle stations in Australia. I eagerly looked forward to trying the waygu steaks at Akasushi... and Luis and the staff did not disappoint. Brilliant service, generous serving sizes,(my photos do not do this justice) and fantastic use of the highest quality meat at a price that, for waygu, was very cheap. Go experience it before they become so busy they are turning people away. I will be back.

O Jardim is a charming and cozy restaurant located in Castelo Branco, offering delicious Portuguese cuisine with a homemade touch. The friendly staff and warm atmosphere make diners feel right at home. The menu features well-prepared dishes such as turkey stroganoff and prawn and squid skewers, along with a delectable chocolate mousse that lives up to its reputation. While the restaurant may be small and often busy, making a reservation is recommended to secure a delightful dining experience.
A wonderfully simple, yet tasty neighbourhoody restaurant. Turkey stroganoff was excellent, as was prawn and squid skewers - and in a country where chocolate mousse can be found EVERYWHERE - the one served here really lives up to its supposed reputation. Very friendly staff, expect a wait if you just turn up, we were there on a Monday night as nd it was busy in an otherwise fairly sleepy town. ..

Day 5

Keep it simple
For day 5, these 4 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Castelo Branco. Start the day with Parque Da Cidade and make your way through the city to get to Cruzeiro de Castelo Branco / Cruzeiro de São João. This should take about 4 hours of your day.

Park
Parque da Cidade is the municipal park of Castelo Branco, situated in front of the Francisco Tavares Proenca Junior Museum. This free-to-enter park offers a tranquil oasis with numerous water features and fountains, making it a popular spot for locals to relax and enjoy. The well-maintained park provides ample seating areas for people-watching and leisurely strolls. Visitors can admire the view of the castle, especially enchanting when illuminated at night.
This place is where the locals come to amuse themselves. It never seems to get mentioned in the guides, and I think most people believe it to be part of the castle gardens that you have to pay to get into. But this place is free to everyone. The park itself is a good size with plenty of places to sit down and do a bit of people watching. There seems to be a bit of an obsession with water features here, I counted 7 different places where water was either gushing, spurting or just lapping about. There is a children's jungle gym type of thing tucked away at one side fairly close to the obligatory Café, which is next to the mandatory water feature about halfway down the park. If you venture past the Café, you come to a wooded area where there are picnic benches and more water features. Oftentimes the locals come here for kids' birthdays and the like. Generally, the place is peaceful and clean. I often see work crews here maintaining the flower beds and grass. If you want a free garden to come and sit in among the locals and away from the tourists, this is the place to be.

Great park right in the heart of Castelo Branco. It is well maintained. It's not huge, but still big enough for a walk or dog walking. There are several pretty water fountains, a playground, toilets and a bar. The view to the castle is quite beautiful from here, specially at night with all the lights on. Highly recommended.

A tranquil oasis in the city. It is very peaceful with many water features and fountains. It is well mainained and there is a cafe which is not very clean and toilets which are also not very clean. Prices in the cafe are above average.

The Museu Francisco Tavares Proença Jr. is housed in the former Episcopal Palace and serves as a museum that showcases archaeological discoveries from the Beira Baixa region. The long-standing institution offers an exceptional exhibition of local artifacts, with a particular emphasis on the unique bedspreads from Castelo Branco. The museum's collection features various examples of these traditional textiles, providing visitors with a comprehensive insight into the cultural heritage of the area.
The museum used to be the residence of the bishops in the 18th century and is connected to the Garden of the Episcopal Palace. The first part of the museum exhibits the archeological excavations which dates back to the 16th century. The rest of the exhibition is mainly dedicated to the examples of embroidery created in Castelo Branco, including carpets, dresses and other types of artifacts. In a few of the rooms there are paintings with religious themes as well as the portraits of bishops. The staff were super friendly and would gladly explain any question about the museum, if asked. Opening time: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Entrance: €3, and for students and seniors €1.5

(Translated by Google) Museum based on the archaeological collection assembled by Francisco Tavares de Proença. This man, who was born in the 19th century and died prematurely at the age of 33 in Switzerland, belonged to an important family that owned a large estate in Castelo Branco. This museum also has sacred art - it is housed in a palace that was the residence of bishops (episcopal palace) - as well as textile art, namely the famous Castelo Branco quilts (from the 18th and 19th centuries). Also noteworthy is an imposing 18th-century iron safe, where collected taxes were kept. It is well worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) The building is extraordinary, the exhibition is beautiful, the information about the exhibition or exhibitions, I don't know... They didn't let me read it. We arrived at 12:40, they said we could see it but that we had 20 minutes and every 5 minutes we were pressured to move forward and leave because it closes at 1 pm, and they have to have lunch and set alarms and so on 😞 unfortunately these are the people who keep us away from culture! A building that had 3 professionals, was empty, managed to put 5 people out, with so much pressure! We are very sorry. Cruzeiro de Castelo Branco, also known as Cruzeiro de São João, is a granite cross located on Largo de Sao Joao. Erected at the beginning of the 16th century in front of a now-vanished church, it stands as a national monument for its Manueline decoration. Despite some degradation, it remains a beautiful Christian symbol and an ideal spot for photography. Nearby are benches where visitors can sit and admire the intricate design.
Nice cross, nothing too cool, still worth going to.

(Translated by Google) The Cruzeiro de São João is a fine example of Manueline religious architecture. Built in the 16th century, it was a roadside cross, demonstrating the existence of a chapel dedicated to the worship of Saint John nearby. Carved from granite, with an octagonal base decorated with natural elements, it features a spiral axis on which rests a ring and a rope, and is decorated with stylized plants. Good food with fresh fish, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Not perfect but one of the best traditional sushi you can eat in Castelo Branco. Will be coming back.

For a cheap all you can eat sushi I will say this is above avarage quality. The food was nice the sushi fresh. And the hot dishes prepared in clean oil and nice spices

Worst attention ever: I went for chinese all you can eat, I ordered fried rice, they gave me a dessert plate with three tablespoons of rice that sticks. I am a lover of Chinese food and fried rice never sticks, always loose. I asked him to please put a little more and they told me to eat that, maybe then they would serve me more. I reiterated that I wanted more and was telling her so. I ordered some dumplings and they brought me a dumpling on a dessert plate. dumplings are steamed and this one was fried on the outside and raw on the inside. I asked them what that was and they told me to eat it. They served me a meat that supposedly came with vegetables and it was several pieces of meat without vegetables. I told them that what they brought me had nothing to do with what was in the photo. They told me yes and to eat it. I asked him to please serve me what I wanted. They refused and I asked for the bill. They passed me the entire bill without having barely eaten. They still charged me €10 for not having eaten anything and having treated me so badly, I paid them. I recommend it to anyone. Better to avoid it.

Not great! The service is terribly poor! The waitress is not interested in serving people and not friendly either...the food was not bad but not something I ll remember and if you know Japanese cuisine, it is far from it, probably a chinese gross version of it! I ll try to find a better one within Castelo next time!

Don't eat sushi. If you have thought that sushi should be made taking maximum care of hygiene and treating food with care, think again. All you can eat? They serve you what they want. It's not worth complaining.
