Burg Hohenwerfen

Castle
Burg Hohenwerfen is a hilltop medieval castle and history museum that can be reached by funicular. It features a falconry center and offers guided tours. Visitors recommend taking the guided tour, which includes an audio guide for non-German speakers, allowing them to explore at their own pace. The free museums on site are also worth checking out. The bird shows with falcons, vultures, and eagles flying just meters above the audience are not to be missed.
Great castle with some fantastic views! There is a falconry center inside and chances are that you'll see falcons even outside of the show, which is scheduled only a few times per day - birds may be flying around or just hanging out somewhere on the castle territory. Walking trail from the parking to the castle is quite easy and takes up to 20min in one side.
Oleksandr S — Google review
It is a very nice castle. You can see that already by approaching him. It look very nice between the hills. There is a parking lot in front of the cashier. You can go on foot or you can go with cable train. I took the cable train. Castle is very interesting. Guided tour is very nice, very interesting and you see much interesting parts of the castle. There is a self service restaurant and one with table service. Worth of visiting
Bojan B — Google review
Beautiful place, beautiful views. Unfortunately, the tour was only in german. They gave us audio guides instead. There were not many original pieces due to fires. It still worth to visit. We enjoyed it. They even have a place to eat.
Tamara B — Google review
We were not disappointed. The tour was worthwhile, especially if you enjoy the tourist discount staying locally. With advance tickets the admission was quick and efficient. The funicular to the Burg was smooth, safe, an appropriate speed and worry free, well covered by forest and shade so it didn't leave us with any feeling of vulnerability during the ride up or down. The tour was informative and, being self-guided, easy to keep up with; simple to understand. The café was very good. An enjoyable afternoon overall. Don't miss it!
D. G — Google review
Very cool castle! Loads to see and do for kids and adults. Birdshow was super cool and informative. We had birds flying a meter over our heads. Very cool. Staff were super nice and friendly. Stunning views and a very beautiful castle. Photos don’t do it justice.
Kristian T — Google review
Very cool place we happened to stumble upon driving through. We learned a lot of really cool facts and enjoyed the amazing scenery surrounding. 4 stars because we couldn’t figure out how to get to the top of the bell tower and the gift shop closed when they had the bird show at 3pm.
Stephanie G — Google review
One of the most astonishing views I've ever seen. Beautiful and historical fortress plus enchanting birds exhibitions. Smaller compared to Hohensalzburg but still worth it to visit. Really easy to get from Salzburg Hbf.
GUSTAVO ( — Google review
A very beautiful Castle and view, had a great English tour(with a fantastic guide) which they should DEFINITELY offer, and finally the bird show was very cool to see. Definitely recommend. Was 20.90 Euros for taking the gondola both ways which I do recommend.

Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Eisriesenwelt, located near the town of Werfen in the Salzburg Alps, is a breathtaking natural wonder. Discovered in 1879, it is the largest ice cave in the world, with a labyrinth of caves spanning over 42 kilometers. Accessible to the public from May to October, visitors can embark on guided tours through this mesmerizing icy landscape.
One of best ice caves experiences in the world. I have visited the caves twice, 7 years apart and can truly say the sculptures inside are changing. The elephant sculpture from 7 years ago now almost looks like a wooly mammoth. There is ample parking around which is not chargeable. It is best to book your slot online before visiting to avoid the rush for entry. Also, please carry good jackets as it is very cold inside the caves. It is best to choose a morning slot so that you have ample time to enjoy. It's a good trek upto the cable car after the entry check point and again from the cable car drop point to the cave, so having good treeking shoes really helps. There is a washroom located near the cave entry and the 1st checkpoint. Before entering the cave they give you a lamp which works on oil to carry inside. The guides are all very amazing. There is a fair steep climb inside the cave which raises your heart rate and helps keep you warm. The fire looking out of the cave to the mountains is just mindblowing.
Kshitij A — Google review
We were holidaying in the Bayern area, and just had to experience this. Its somewhat of a 3/4 day experience. The drive there on its own is quite magical already. Tickets where quite easy to get online and you do a check-in at the counter. The short hike up to the cable car is amazing. And then you get to take another hike through tunnels to get to the entrance. The caves themselves is absolutely stunning. Definitely recommend long pants and jackets as it is 0degreesC inside. And be ready to walk a lot of steep steps. The guides are absolutely brilliant and the tour is offered in English and German. Highly recommend the visit. It's more than just the ice cave!
Shalen R — Google review
You should be prepared to enormously steep climb - 1 km before the cable car and 1 km after. Additionally, the staircase with 1400 steps awaits you inside the cave. No warnings in the tourists center about the climbing, which is potentially dangerous or even impossible for not so young people or people with medical problems. The cave itself is quite average one. Positive things: great views outside the cave and on your way to the cave
Alexander C — Google review
Excellent trip to do!! We went in October. Was cold but not really bad. A regular jacket etc probably will suffice. Do be prepared for a LOT of uphill walking. You will need to take a shuttle bus (2 pick up points. Google it), it costs around 10 Euros and is CASH ONLY. Bring cash for this! You definitely don’t want to walk to the base site unless you feel like doing an all day hike. Once at the base, you can get tickets to go into the cave (includes the rail cart up to the top). Tickets are like 4 Euros cheaper if bought online. Super easy to buy online. After you leave ticket area, 15-20 mins uphill walk, then take the rail car, then another 15-20 mins uphill and then you are at the cave entrance. Wait here for a guided tour in your language. Lights are provided for the cave. Photos are NOT normally allowed. It seems they let you if it is the slow season. Give this review a like if it helped you! :)
Colton W — Google review
It took us around 45 min to get to the cave (from the visitor center it takes 20 min to the cable and then again 20 min to the cave). You must be in a good fit to climb up the trail to the cave. It is expensive (125 euro for 3 adults and 2 kids). The cave itself is very nice but it also includes climbing up 1400 stairs. The surrounding view is exceptional and worth the climb.
Milly K — Google review
Highly recommended but keep in mind, it’s for hikers. You will need to hike at least 40 minutes climbing and the cave is another 1400 stairs (700 up and 700 down). It’s fantastic journey and great tour but very difficult. The tour uses lanterns and magnesium for light which is great for the vibe but less good for pictures.
Neil R — Google review
Great place to visit, incredible ice cave with great views and history. Lots of steps inside, physically challenging, but worth every step. Warm clothes required!
Marc — Google review
100% recommended, very impressive and adventorous. Surrounded by a beautiful nature landscape. Warm clothes needed inside the cave. Jan was our guide and he couldn’t have been nicer, he explained everything perfectly.

JO Adventure Minigolf

Miniature golf course
Located adjacent to the OPEN golf course, JO Adventure Minigolf offers a convenient and easily accessible location with ample parking. The 18 mini-golf tracks are beautifully designed, featuring motifs that reflect the sights of Pongau. Suitable for all skill levels, including children and inexperienced players, it provides approximately 90 minutes of entertainment for a group of four. While drinks and restrooms are located outside the complex, the creatively designed courses offer an enjoyable experience for visitors.
Nice and interesting mini golf, with 18 holes. Also for smaller children - 4years and up.

Nice place to pass an hour with the kids . Good track with many options. We been there for 1.5 hours with 2 kids age 10 and 12.

Nice and clean minigolf. Verry cool that each hole is related to a place nearby.

(Translated by Google) A fantastic adventure mini golf course. Beautifully decorated courses with regional landmarks. The course is set back a bit from the ticket office, so refreshments are available only from vending machines. One thing that could be improved is that there's absolutely no shade on the course. I wouldn't play there at midday in midsummer. However, the course is lit, so you can play until 10 p.m. in the summer, which is great. Entry is €9. There's a large parking lot, but you have to share it with other golfers. (Original) Eine tolle Adventure Minigolfanlage.

(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful mini golf courses I've been to so far! The view of the mountains is magnificent when the weather is nice. The tracks are very lovingly designed and take up well-known places from the area - very cool! The staff were all very friendly and the price for a round was absolutely fair! Attention: after the last lane, the balls are kept directly in the lane. So if you can't follow the order, definitely save the last lane until the very end! :)

(Translated by Google) Nicely designed mini golf course. The course is well-maintained and clean. The holes are inspired by surrounding landmarks and are beautifully designed. The difficulty level is quite easy compared to other mini golf courses and is also suitable for children; we needed between 1 and 3 strokes per hole. The price of €9 per adult is reasonable, reduced by the Salzburger Sportwelt Card's "tourist tax" of €4.50; definitely recommended. (Original) Nett angelegte Minigolfanlage.

(Translated by Google) Beautifully designed 18 holes with great attention to detail and fascinating themes from the surrounding area. We especially liked that the course is open under floodlights until 10:00 PM – perfect for a relaxing evening. It was nice not to be overcrowded, so you could play in peace. The entrance fee is also very reasonable. The small restaurant right on the golf course is nice and rounds out the experience wonderfully. We'd love to come back!

Annakapelle is a Gothic chapel located next to the Pongauer Dom in St. Johann. It was associated with a church that was destroyed in 1855 and is now used by both Catholic and Protestant communities as a symbol of friendship. The chapel stands as a reminder of the denominational struggles that took place in Pongau and St. Johann for centuries. Visitors can also explore the Karner, an exhibition space worth seeing, located within the chapel.

The staff was amazing, friendly. The food was fantastic. One of the best steaks (its was just melting in the mouth), the cream corn soup was perfect.

Restaurant-Bar HavannaH is a charming establishment with a friendly and accommodating staff. The menu offers a wide range of options, including delicious choices for vegans. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal. Guests have praised the excellent service and tasty food, particularly highlighting the superb steaks and delightful wine selection. Additionally, the attentive staff members are willing to accommodate special requests, such as offering alternative sides or providing dessert even after the kitchen has closed.
After visiting St Johann for 15 years, this is the now the best restaurant. Booked a group of 40. Excellent communications with food preordered. The service and atmosphere was first rate. Natalie and Stephan were particularly engaging and made the evening. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and vowed to return next year. Thank you to the owner and staff for a lovely night.

Ate here twice - it’s that good! Elegant, with great service, lots of options for vegan/vegetarians. Great salads. Have a delicious local brown bread. We had the sole and side salad/pasta with salmon first night (both wonderful ), on return salad with grilled salmon (amazing) and a mushroom schnitzel with potatoes. Great wine selection.

Amazing service and tasty options for vegans 😍👌🏻 Even at the end when the kitchen was closed, one of the waitress offered us the chocolate mouse as my bf wanted dessert. The waiter we had was really helpful and suggested to change the side salad of my bf main dish for grilled veggies as we ordered 2 salads for appetisers.

We, a sr couple from Hilo, Hawaii Island, walked in at opening when they were just opening and got two great beers, and randomly picked out two meals that didn't sound like sausage. The fish ravioli were fine, the mushrooms / pasta was outstanding! The smiling bartender was outside mostly, the gruffer inside guy looked me in the eye to thank us - my wife said he'd noticed the tip!
Patrick E — Google review
Nice relaxed place to dine. the white wine served to my Cuba salad was splendid. The shrimps in the salad were way to salt, the soup was even so salt that I sent it back to the kitchen. The tapas appetizer was extensive and tasty, the Chocolate sharp desert was awesome. The personel is kind. It surprises me that they take away your plate while you are still chewing your last bite. They offer good opportunities for vegans.

Fast food restaurant
McDonald's, the iconic fast-food chain beloved worldwide for its delicious burgers and crispy fries, offers more than just a quick meal. One family’s experience at this particular location was heartwarming; after an unexpected car accident, they found refuge here while waiting for their loved ones to arrive from Italy. The accommodating manager allowed them to settle in with their belongings and frequently checked on them as they enjoyed tasty food in a clean and inviting atmosphere.
Clean, great for kids. Happy meals are cheaper than the rest of Europe. Toys are branded Schleich, which is fantastic! You can drink beer and it's a local one! We liked it!

We stopped for a coffee and were greeted with a warm welcome. We asked for an oat milk cappuccino and it tasted pretty good for McDonald coffee.
Driving R — Google review
Visited a few times, always clean, nice atmosphere, good price, very fast service, it's like pit stop in Formula 1, great team work. Honestly, this is the best McDonald's what our family visited in many countries. Thank you!
Roman K — Google review
Why giving it 1 stars? Well, while buying the food, the application offered us a Purple dragon squishy toy, however on the counter they told us the y don't have any, not even trying to find it or explaining why offering if not having. My 5 year old daughter was utterly disappointed, thus I would give them even 0 if possible. McDonald's, please sell your food smart and don't disappoint kids if possible.
Dejan S — Google review
Even though it was crazy busy, there were three workers continuously cleaning. No sticky tables, like you normally see once you're in Germany. Also cheaper than in Germany.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at this branch. I was placing my order at the self-service kiosk and was almost done when one of the staff suddenly shut it down, claiming they needed to replace the receipt paper. However, there was still enough paper left, and he could’ve easily waited a few more seconds for me to finish. This behavior was unprofessional and shows a lack of respect for customers’ time. I hope the branch management works on improving customer service and staff attitude.

This McDonald's went above and beyond for us. I was in a car accident with my kids and my son's friend and we went to this McDonald's to wait for my hubby (and friends) to drive up from Italy 3 1/2 hours away. I spoke with the manager and explained the situation. They allowed us to sit in one of the corners of the restaurant with all our luggage and belongings. We ordered food and it was tasty. The manager and other crew checked on us every so often. They brought us a couple slices of cake for the kids, cups of water and they gave us croissants that were going to be tossed. We were very thankful. It had been a rough few hours with my vehicle being totaled, clinic visit to make sure we were all okay, taxi rides, all in a foreign country. It was nice to have a safe place to be while we waited on our rides to go home. Also, I'm gluten free and I was able to order food to eat. Thank you very much to the McDonald's staff for taking such good care of us. Also, the view is amazing!

An absolutely stunning mountain gorge with a crystal-clear, rushing river carving its way through the rocks. The graceful spiral staircase adds a unique charm and makes the walk even more memorable. The trail ends with a breathtaking waterfall and a panoramic viewing platform. If you ever find yourself in the area, don’t miss it — this is a true masterpiece of nature!

Nature trail - Liechtenstein Gorge. - Easy and pleasant Liechtensteinklamm trail. Very organized place, there are 4 parking lots (p1, p2) very close to the entrance. P3 + P4 is an effortless walk of 1 km. Entrance for 2 adults + 2 children 47 euros. Very organized trail, lots of places to photograph crazy nature, flowing water. There are stairs on the way (up and down). The trail is packed with people/visitors (we started at 10:00) The entire trail takes about two hours, depending on the traffic and how many photos you take.

Totally worth to go there! Ticket for adult cost 15 euros, child for free. Well maintained path and stairs. We took a hike with our 4yo and we made it all together, it was super safe and definitely also a child friendly option for active family. We arrived just after 10am which was a great time since when we were coming back, all the parking spots were full just the further one(P5) available and we managed to park in P1. So definitely worth to come early

Easy walk with about 400 stairs. It’s not a circular walk so you will have to walk those 400 steps on your way back. The views are gorgeous and it’s perfect if you are looking for a 3 hour walk in nature with a unique pathway and the most beautiful stairs I ever saw.

Do come early in the morning or before closing because the crowd is quite disturbing the experience. There are big free parkings. The famous steps are only one part of the going up and down. It is short but not flat. Also, do not take your dog if you can't carry her: she will definitively not appreciate it as all the bigger dogs were scared and the steps can easily hurt their paws. They will not enjoy it one bit.

Magnificent natural formation, we were totally mesmerized. Every few moments we kept stopping to just point at things as it all looked so dramatic and spectacular. We went first thing in the morning, and the light really plays well with beams and shadows at this time, so definitely recommended visiting before noon. It's one way there and back, but people were quite good at sticking to one side so people could pass on the narrow paths. The only downside is the price, but as it goes towards the maintainence of the pathways and safety structures, I suppose it's justified.

Located just 45 minutes from Salzburg airport, it offers access to an impressive 210 km of meticulously groomed slopes as part of the larger Ski Amade domain featuring 760 km in total.
Family friendly ski resort with plenty of slopes for all levels and well connected lift system. It comprises of several villages/mountains connected through the wagon lift. There is also a fun slope for kids/beginners and a snow park where you can try trampolines, etc. There are plenty of cafes/restaurants for all tastes. A couple of upscale places with parties Fri/Sat.

Ski resort with a very modern lift system and good variety of pistes. Very well suited for families and beginners. Free ride/ off-piste options are a bit limited. Good parking around the main lift from the valley.

Had a great time today skiing with friends. Snow conditions were great, awesome tram and gondolas. Cool spot for drinks by the flying Mozart lift.

Amazing place for skiers... Fantastic also for families... Mostly easy and intermediate slopes Alpendorf is a diamond of this region, I am recommended it for families, couples, and solo travellers... With 100% guarantee snow, Snow Space shows that they are focused and ready to please and serve every tourist and skier during the ski season.. FYI I was in Alpendorf (Snow Space) in 2023. and 2024. 20 days in total at the beginning of January with my family

Perfect place for day in the mountains with kids. Enjoyable hike filled with activities, beautiful view from the top.

Update for winter 24-25. Still the best. 16 years now. The snow making is wonderful combined with some of the best slope grooming in the world. Great combination of Red and Blue slopes with a few Blacks. Stegbach is Black and served with only a T-bar - usually not crowded at all. Update For winter 2023-24. After 15 years with season passes, I can still say no regrets. The snow making is incredible, along with some of the best slope grooming anywhere. Alpendorf/St Johann is one of the best ski areas in Austria - located less than an hour south of Salzburg. It's not the biggest, but combined with Wagrain and Flachau (all connected by lifts), it's a very large area with a great mix of slopes. Off-piste is limited, but the slopes are extremely well maintained. The snow making is some of the best in the world, guaranteeing good skiing usually from the beginning of December to mid-April. The food and drink on the mountain is great and reasonable. I have been skiing for over 60 years and have skied some of the biggest and best ski areas in France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and North America (West and East). We picked Alpendorf for season passes and have no regrets.
Peter J — Google review
A huge and excellent ski resort, so many options for skiing, the ski pass allows access to over 700 km of slopes even when it is not snowing, 90 percent of the slopes can be covered with snow by snow machines, so there is nothing to worry about, the only thing is that it can be very, very crowded with people on certain days and hours

Well designed fairy tale park for children, with revolving motives of four basic elements - Earth, Air, Water and Fire. Nice walking track is guided by two friendly ghosts - Ghosty & Spooky. I bet, your kids will love them. Even if the price for cable car is not cheap (cca € 65 for 2 adults and 2 children), it's worthy to visit. The park itself is tasteful, toy train, which brings you to the top of the mountain, is free of charge and you even have wifi on the summit. And panorama around is nice.

Geisterberg Alpendorf, located in the mountains around Wagrain, is a fantastic destination for families with kids. The park offers various playgrounds and activities where children can have fun while learning about the ghosts of the mountains. Visitors can take a tractor-bus from the gondola lift to reach the top, where they will find stunning views and an array of attractions such as water features, a wooden dragon, slides, and a large kids' castle.
It was a very pleasant day with kids. Thanks to many attractions on the way, they manged entire hike without a slightest nag 😁 Filling in stickers in the circle was a little complicated since the paper circle has different size than those on the boards, but we managed.
Anna L — Google review
Perfect for kids aged 6-12. It is quite challenging as you have to walk a lot at the top and the terrain is not easy. Better to come for the whole day and make pauses to recharge energy.
Eva T — Google review
Magical place for kids and adults alike. There are amenities to take a stroller with you, but better to have one with breaks, due to steep terrain.
Levente K — Google review
This place is amazing! We had so much fun. It is just one huge playground. We enjoyed our time on the mountain and we would recommend it to anyone who wants to see some magnificent views and also spend some fun time with their kids. Get some rest and relax while the kids go on exploring and fullfilling all the tasks the ghosts prepared for them.
Misha S — Google review
From the mountains around Wagrain, this one is the best for kids. There are so many things they can do here, so many different playgrounds and places where you can have fun and you will find out more about the ghosts of the mountains. There is a tractor-bus, which can take you from the gondola lift up to the top, but it is really overcrowded and the hike is not really long or hard. My 4 year old kids had no problems with it. So if you want to surprise your kids, take them to Geisterberg 👍
Marek R — Google review
It's probably the best hiking mountain with children riddles in the Salzburg area. The kids (8, 6, 2) were thrilled to complete the path and the medallion given, and the view is simply amazing. The place is neatly clean and organized. The only downside is the need to wait for the ride uphill, that comes only once in half an hour, and gets full already at the first stations so it doesn't even stop at the middle stations. We ended up walking from bottom to the top on a hot sunny day, it took about 45 minutes and wasn't so easy for the kids.
Moshe M — Google review
Ghosts mountain. Actually it's a big playground themed with ghosts. Good views in the area. Not cheap to get to the mountain station, then u need to CLIMB 15min in a road which doesn't fit for all strollers... The ride with the tractor is nice attraction. Nice to have. Not 1st in your list...

Russenfriedhof

Military cemetery
Nestled discreetly beside the main road in St. Johann lies the Russenfriedhof, a poignant cemetery dedicated to the memory of Prisoners of War. Established by the Nazis in 1941, this site once housed a camp that held up to 30,000 individuals forced into labor under harrowing conditions. The cemetery serves as a solemn reminder of history, with over 3,000 Red Army soldiers laid to rest here—many having succumbed to starvation during their captivity.
You can reach the monument through a small road from main road. The gate was open. There is also a wooden information buliding in the memorial area. Here you can find more information about what happened. It's a beautiful cared monument, it keeps a sad memory of the heroic dead soldiers. Rest in peace.

Snow Space Salzburg, located in St. Johann-Alpendorf, is a popular destination for family and leisure skiers during winter with over 90% blue and red slopes. It's just a 50-minute drive from Salzburg, offering numerous activities for families and active vacationers.
Very good experience, the staff is nice, I learned how to ski and very nice slopes. Overall, it was very good, I recommend to visit.
Aleksandr K — Google review
10/10 guide we got (Nicholas?). Primarily intended for families with kids, I'd say. Easy to digest, simple historical facts, artifacts and places; fun factor (slides, movie clips). Photos made by the staff are somehat pricey (we paid 35€ for 3 photos), but you are allowed to take your own photographs. I heartily recommend it!
Attila C — Google review
We had a traumatic experience due to the downtime of the cable car in Wagrain. A system that usually works well failed during our stay leaving us stuck on the Sonntagskogebahn 2 ski lift for 40 minutes. We were exposed to snow, strong wind and cold. And after the repair of the cable car and serious inconvenience, the employees of "Snow Space" were not there to apologize and offer help. We forced them to apologize via email only after our written complaints. So, a warning. If you get stuck on a cable car, I don't think you should expect anyone to actively try to help you, and to apologize for the problem.
Josip S — Google review
The whole cable line was impressive and it was easy to go any where you like.

Absolutely charming place and paradise for kids (talking about summer activities). Going up the Grafenberg by a cable car is the first experience on the way to the other adventures awaiting on the top. Breathtaking view, Grafenberg See with activities for kids, trampoline, playground and its just the beginning of the trail. Further on there is a long slide to a rope playground hidden in the trees, small wooden houses, lots of information tables all along the trail. Cozy restaurant with a wide choice of delicious food. Water attractions , animals enclosures, trampoline, swings attached to it and fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Easily accessible with strollers. Highly recommended 👌
Veronikas N — Google review
I like the entire area but prefer Wagrain slopes over that of Flachau. Flachau always seems to be busy when Wagrain slopes are usually less crowded. Anyway both areas offer a lot of red and blue slopes and few blacks so everyone can have something to enjoy. Flachau is packed with nice chalets to stop and dine and Wagrain has a bit less options.
Jure Š — Google review
It's a small place, people are generally rude, no one speaks English. Don't make the mistake of going the last week's of the season, because you pay the same price for everything but most services and some important links are closed, no matter how much snow is there

The Alpina Alpendorf is a sophisticated ski-in/ski-out hotel that boasts two restaurants, a rooftop infinity pool, and a spa. Guests can enjoy delectable cuisine with both local and international options for dinner. The extensive wine selection and exceptional service at the hotel bar contribute to an unforgettable experience. In addition to skiing, guests can relax in the spa area or take advantage of the well-equipped gym.
My partner and I took a three day getaway to Alpina Alpendorf and the stay could not have been better. Both the dedicated staff, the facilities of the hotel and the fact that it is at the bottom of the ski slopes. Made it even better than we expected. We will be back again next season for sure!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

One amazing hotel - absolutely beautiful Alpina Hotel . It was a wonderful surprise to discover this perfect location, where we will definitely return next year for 2 weeks instead of just one! We have only good things to say about your location, the room, the view, the cleanliness, the staff, the food, the services, the spa area, and much more! We have spent many holidays in Austria over the past 20 years, and from now on, Alpina has become our favorite place! We also thoroughly enjoyed the spa area, including the two different types of massages, and we felt like we were reborn after the first session 😊. And indeed, the hotel slogan “Feels like home” is more than well-deserved! Razvan A

A fantastic family-friendly hotel. From the moment we arrived at Alpina, we were blown away by the experience. Situated with beautiful views of the valley and mountains, it provides the perfect place to relax. The hotel is all about children, with a kids club, comprehensive daily activity programme and great facilities- including multiple swimming pools! The meal options were excellent for kids and adults, with lots of variety in the week. There’s lots to do at the hotel and local area (Geisterberg is superb and the lift station is next door!). Public transport is good but to fully explore the area (and take up some of the local options for when the sun isn’t shining), I think having a car is useful - though the hotel can provide a transfer service when requested (at additional cost). Perhaps just one negative to be aware of- the rooms were not air conditioned, which meant on some warmer nights it was a little uncomfortable and lighter duvets may have been better.
Andrew G — Google review
Recently I booked a 2 weeks vacation at the Alpina for my mom, so I'm writing this review on behalf of her. First on the rooms: After a recent upgrade the rooms are now top class and convince with a modern, yet alpine-charm interior with lots of wood and darker notes. I recommend the slightly higher category with stunning views over the valley and a small balcony. The rooms are well equipped with coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. Basically everything you need. The service at the hotel is top class too. All staff, without exception, is always friendly and helpful. Never you saw a grumpy face, and this makes the stay at the hotel extra pleasant. Most of the staff has been working there for 10-15years, and you can tell the pride they take in their job and treating every guest special. And the boss himself is very hands on, greeting guests and always friendly. Food has been great as well, good variation with the evening meal plans if you are on half board. Family Schwarz has really created a beautiful spot in the heart of the Alps! Three thumbs up!

Wonderful renovated hotel with very friendly staff (Especially Gabi from reception who took the time to explain every time we had a question!) With different wellness options, great sports facilities and a very professional kids club, I would definitely recommend Alpina for families with children or couples looking for a sporty holiday.
Frederik D — Google review
First of all, what the hotel will not make you aware of is the construction works going on outside the hotel. We booked the ‘best view’ - only to find a couple of cranes and noise from 7am through 7pm each day. So that was very disappointing. You can see our video of this and to hear the noise that you will experience. Secondly; the rooms do not have air conditioning, in the summer this is a big problem. Room was regularly 28degs+ at night, and no way to cool it. If you leave door open, you get the construction noise and mosquitoes. This was our fault for not checking. We assumed at that cost point we’d have a/c. And to make matters worse. Our room was directly above the sauna - the heat does come through! We stayed here with the dog for a summer holiday. Now - the good things. Staff were awesome. Food selection is great. Choice of two restaurants, one which does food all day. Spa is great. Love the magazine each day - telling you of all the activities going on, and they have a great activity programme, pool area is nice. Pool is very clean. Location of hotel is fantastic. EV car charging is expensive - the exact same charging company will charge you 20% less if you go down the street.

The desserts are both fresh and delectable, boasting a wide array of choices for patrons to indulge in.
Great place! Amazing service. There is no Wi-Fi and I loved that! You see regular customers coming in, talking to the staff, reading the newspaper. Please bring cash. There is a sign on the door stating no credit cards accepted. This delightful café my husband and I stumbled upon on Monday morning. We had driven from Berlin, had a so-so dinner the night before and needed something to fill our empty stomachs. We have returned every morning since... Everything about Café Schiebel hits the right spots each time we go. We've tried different menu combos. Had cake. Enjoyed the coffee and delicious hand pressed orange juice. The eggs, ham and cheese plate, yogurt.. everything just right. Even our waitress.. I wish I knew your name.. has greeted us every morning with a smile and remembered how we drink our coffee. Exceptional!

Very low service , my friend experienced a hard time trying to pay with cash because no one said before the order was made about the problem with terminal and didn’t translate their situation, the behaviour of the stuff is unprofessional and rude! Definitely not recommend this place to anyone!

We had a lunch here but I suppose it's more an afternoon tea place. Choices of cakes and coffees. We had a toast cheece bacon and hawai toast which came with a salad. The salad looked good but wasn't. I think its not made fresh and its comes from jars. The toast was ok but nothing special. The terrace is nice for which is give it 3 stars. Maybe we go back for a coffee and cake later on.

Best thing was that it was open on a holiday. Food was decent . Seating space is a bit less . Very good service !! The waitress was extremely nice to us .

The food was OK but nothing special. The waitress was kind but she was so ill that she could not speak, maybe it’s better not to work in such a condition to not infect other. The biggest negative was that it smelled like cigarettes inside a lot, like somebody just smoked inside before we came in.

A nice and traditional place, the food was delicious and fairly fresh, nothing out of the ordinary, but for a small midday break, very nice
