History Museums
Mozart's Birthplace, also known as Mozarts Geburtshaus, is a significant historical site in Salzburg. The yellow townhouse was where Wolfgang Mozart, one of the most influential composers in history, was born and lived for 17 years. Today, it operates as a house museum offering tours that provide insights into Mozart's early life. Visitors can explore three floors filled with personal belongings, musical instruments, family portraits, and other important items related to Mozart.
Mozart’s Birthplace Museum is a must-visit in the heart of Salzburg. With the Salzburg Card, entry is free and quick, making it very convenient. The museum offers wonderful insights into Mozart’s life, his family, and his works, with many fascinating details on display. A free app with an audio guide is available, which makes the visit even more engaging and informative. One of the highlights is a special room where instruments are built into the floor—when you walk across it, music begins to play. If you’re visiting with others, it creates a truly delightful and interactive experience. Overall, a well-curated museum that brings Mozart’s story to life in the city where it all began.
Elnur Q — Google review
A must-see in Salzburg. It was fascinating to visit the birthplace of the great musician. The museum houses many of the musician's personal belongings, his musical instruments, and much more. Be sure to use the Mozart Museums Salzburg App as your guide.
Aliaksei A — Google review
Great museum and tribute to Mozart. Informative displays with historical significance. I really like that the museum has a QR code you can scan and have a self guided tour simply with your own phone. We were there on a Sunday and it was not over crowded. They have a few public restrooms also available. The gift shop is very nice and inviting. I highly recommend it.
Debbie M — Google review
The museum collection is quite simple, and tickets can be purchased in advance on the website. When we asked the ticket counter staff about an audio guide, the lady said there wasn’t one — but upon entering, we discovered there is actually a free app to download. The staff didn’t seem very professional, and although the museum mentions having one of the largest collections from the Mozart Association, to be honest, the value for money felt quite low. Also, the weather was very hot, and it felt like a sauna inside the museum.
Penny N — Google review
Located in the city center of Salzburg. The place is easy to locate and its also near to the bus and tram stops. The building is quiet different because of its yellow painting.
Cheryll C — Google review
Located on Getreidegasse in Salzburg’s Old Town, Mozart’s Birthplace is a fascinating stop for anyone interested in classical music and history. The house where Mozart was born in 1756 has been converted into a well-curated museum displaying his original instruments, family portraits, and letters, giving a personal insight into his early years. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ticket prices are €15 for adults, €12 for students under 27, seniors, and groups, €5 for youth (15–18 years), €4.50 for children (6–14 years), and €30 for families. Entry is free for children under six, people with disabilities, and Salzburg Card holders. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially during summer. It’s a short yet enriching experience that captures the essence of Mozart’s genius and Salzburg’s musical heritage.

We were very excited to visit the home place of Mozart whilst staying in Salzburg as I am a big fan, however I have to say we were not very impressed for few reasons.. 1 Overcrowded, feels like you can't enjoy the place without having 10/15 Japanese on your shoulder coughing and sneezing you in the face.. 2 The interactive section was poorly presented, they should modernize it a bit.. 3 Too expensive for what they offer. Happy to have done it, but wouldn't return.

Historic area in the heart of Salzburg with charming streets, shops, and cafés. Mozart’s Birthplace is a highlight, offering interesting exhibits about his early life. A great spot to stroll, enjoy the architecture, and soak in the city’s musical heritage

The Residenzgalerie Salzburg, situated within the historic Residenz Palace, is a renowned art museum that offers a captivating journey through European paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The gallery showcases masterpieces by esteemed artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, and Brueghel in an opulent baroque setting.
Beautiful museum within the archibishop princes palace. The rooms are gorgeous baroque with nothing to envy to Versailles palace. Look the the ceiling stuccos, the ceramic stubes (heating stoves), the gorgeous tapestries and decorations. The audioguide is actually very well done, and if you have time it is worth visiting the museum fully and listen to everything (it would take around two hours). There is also a gallery through the upper part of the cathedral, a terrace overlooking the city as well as some beautiful paintings and artifacts displayed. Definitely worth a visit!

They recently installed these colorful and absolutely modern bubbles in the middle of the interior courtyard, in a magnificent old site... They so remind me this cult SciFi TV series from 1967 "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan (yes, you've guessed right, I'm not young) But this is art, and I won't even dare giving a negative review. Look at the photos and judge for yourself.

Rezidenzgalerie or Salzburg Galerie is a must! The tour takes you through the sumptuous prince-archbishops apartments with their beautiful tapestries, murals and furniture , galleries of magnificent paintings, back in the history where you meet the rulers of Salzburg and admire amazing objects and find out about their manufacturers. Astonishing, this is the word to define Rezidenzgalerie.
Silviu N — Google review
Although there were very nice rooms, especially the private quarters of the archbishop with an amazing Flemish tapestry, the overall quality of the renaissance art was minimal. The best work they had was a Hieronymus Bosch, which was placed in a corner of the upper floors of the cathedral. Rather odd.

Such a large place to see with variety of exhibits. The self guided tour helps to understand the place much more.

Well worth a visit (or two) when in Salzburg. Leave plenty of time since we arrived at the end of the day and had less than an hour but easily could have spent 2-3
Gwenivere R — Google review
I came to the museums only to see the gallery. I asked before I bought the ticket if it was the ticket for the "4 museums" to which the vendor replied yes. Once I got to the entrance of the gallery, I was informed the gallery is closed for renovations. No offer of a refund or anything, just a simple "sorry and I'll tell the person downstairs to inform people". Even now the gallery is marked as open on the website and Google maps. Huge waste of time and money.
Aaron G — Google review
The collection of the house includes European painting from the 16th to the 19th century. Focal points are the Dutch painting of the 17th, Italian, French and Austrian paintings of the 17th and 18th as well as Austrian masterpieces of the 19th century. The Residenzgalerie Salzburg was opened in 1923. It was founded in the first years after the end of the monarchy and was to perform several functions: Replacement of the archiepiscopal art collections lost after the Napoleonic turmoil in the early nineteenth century, study collections in view of the (subsequently unrealized) project on the Establishment of an art academy; Last but not least, a motive for the new foundation was the promotion of tourism, as an additional cultural attraction in addition to the Salzburg Festival. A peculiarity of the founding of the museum was that the Residenzgalerie Salzburg did not own a single work of art and was exclusively equipped with loans. Until the house was closed after 1938, the museum had purchased just over 30 works of art. The reopening took place on 3 August 1952. In a very short time, the focus of the collection shifted to the field of painting of the 16th - 20th century. After the land of Salzburg in 1980 for the art of the 20th century. a private house, the Rupertinum set up, gave the Residenzgalerie Salzburg this museum all stocks of the 20th century and limited their collection activity on European works until the end of the 19th century. The most significant collection of paintings in the province of Salzburg are the works from the former Czernin Collection in Vienna, acquired by the gallery between 1956 and 1991. The collection Czernin in Vienna went back to the collecting activity of Johann Rudolf Count Czernin between 1800 and 1845. Czernin was born in Vienna in 1757, studied law at the University of Salzburg - the Salzburg Archbishop Hieronymus Graf Colloredo was related to him - and spent most of his life in Vienna. Characteristic of his artistic interest is the fact that he was president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1823 to 1827 and from 1824 presided over the imperial collections. Main works of his collection: Vermeer's "artist in his studio" (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna), Titian's portrait of Doge Gritti and Dürer's men's portrait (both in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC) were sold before 1955. The majority of the paintings presented today in the Residengzalerie Salzburg are owned by the Province of Salzburg. The collection is supplemented by loans from Austrian museums, private property and the Private Art Collection. The gallery is located in the east wing of the Salzburg Residenz and above the Bel Etage. The building dates back to around 1600, the stucco ceilings in the northern gallery rooms were commissioned by Archbishop Franz Anton Fürst Harrach, who used these rooms as an audience and living room. At the end of the 18th century, the floor under Archbishop Hieronymus Graf Colloredo was used for the first time to set up the archbishop's collection of paintings. This connection to Salzburg's history was an essential aspect of the construction of the museum in Salzburg.

Residenzplatz is a magnificent 16th-century square featuring a stunning baroque fountain and serving as the backdrop for various cultural events. It holds historical significance, being featured in famous films like The Sound of Music. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Mirabell Palace and Garden, Felsenreitschule, St. Peters cemetery, Schloss Leopoldskron, and Nonnberg Convent.
Residenzplatz in Salzburg is a magical spot, especially during Christmas time! Our family visited the charming Christmas markets here, and it was an unforgettable experience. The market offers an incredible variety of local produce, beautiful handmade Christmas decorations, and a wide range of delicious food stalls featuring Austrian specialties. The festive atmosphere, twinkling lights, and traditional music make it a dream come true for holiday lovers. It does get quite crowded after 6 PM, so visiting earlier is a good idea to avoid the rush. A must-see for anyone visiting Salzburg during the festive season!

Residenzplatz is a beautiful square in Salzburg’s Old Town, surrounded by historic buildings and featuring a grand central fountain. It’s a popular spot where horse-drawn carriages line up, offering rides through the city. The square has a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, making it a great place to pause and take in the surroundings.

Well, it's hardly "missable" because you'll probably stroll through the old quarters of Salzburg, probably visit the Fortress and/or the Cathedral (Dom zu Salzburg) and of course you'll have to pass by this superb Residenzplatz and its monumental fountain in its Center. Beautiful as all Salzburg is.
Dan M — Google review
This was a very beautiful square. It was difficult to appreciate its grandeur as there was a massive Christmas Market on the grounds. And that made it extra special, the atmosphere. In fact, everywhere in Salzburg, there was a Christmas Market, so the vibrancy of town was quite lovely and alive and very festive.

St. Peter's Abbey, situated in Salzburg, Austria, is a renowned Benedictine monastery and Catholic church with a rich history dating back to the 7th century. Established by Saint Rupert, it stands as one of the oldest abbey-church and monastery complexes in the German-speaking world. The Romanesque St. Peter's Church, built in 1143 and later restored with Baroque and Rococo elements, showcases ornate altarpieces by Martin Johann Schmidt.
The whole area was beautiful. I think I read that the interior of the church is Roccoco style - it was very dark in there. The surrounding of the cemetery and catacomb area offers really picturesque views. Very historic church that was interesting to research !

St. Peter's Abbey is a breathtaking piece of history nestled in the heart of Salzburg. Dating back to the 7th century, this Catholic church and monastery exude an aura of timeless beauty and serenity. The Baroque architecture, intricate decorations, and peaceful atmosphere make it a must-visit for history lovers and spiritual seekers alike. One of the highlights is the picturesque cemetery and catacombs, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. The surroundings are stunning, with the abbey seamlessly blending into the rocky landscape. Whether you're admiring the Rococo-style interior or exploring the historical graves, every corner of St. Peter's Abbey tells a story. A visit here is not just about sightseeing—it's an experience that leaves you with a deep appreciation for Salzburg’s rich heritage. Highly recommended.

The cemetery was unlike anything that I have seen. Though the sound of music took the look of St. Peter's cemetery it was not filmed here. Still very much worth seeing. Walking around the Abby in the court there are some areas open to enter, however I was not dressed church appropriate to enter so I can't comment on the inside

Magnificent abbey! You should try to make time for it, but there are so many things to do in Salzburg that this might be difficult. Having said that, if you have two full days in Salzburg, then it's a must-see, and missing this abbey would be a shame.
Dan M — Google review
Lovely church grounds but don't bother with the catacombs.
John L — Google review
Picturesque Abbey located in Old Town. The church was originally built in the 8th century. The gardens in the cemetery are very nice. There is a beautiful view of Altstadt from the top of the abbey. The catacombs are an interesting site but do not contain any bones.
Stephen — Google review
The Abbey inside is no different than any other Abbey. But behind the Abbey is fantastic where you see the historical graves and the stone structure built in the mountain. Also the first right turn before the Abbey, if yiu go down that street and up the stairs you get a magnificent view of Salzburg. I assume it is where church people live.
Nomad J — Google review

IMO , it has the best view in the whole of Salzburg . With mobility issues , you can take the paid lift from the Modern Museum, but we did not , we started our walk up the stairs from Humboldtterrasse Klausentor , along the path there will have benches for you to rest . It is a simple climb where you will get different great views along the way . It's well worth it . Highly recommended !

The view from this spot is truly enchanting. From the bench, under the shade of the trees, one can enjoy a panoramic scene of the city of Salzburg. In the background stands the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress, proudly perched on the hill, while in the foreground stretch the distinctive domes and bell towers of the old town. The tranquility of the place, combined with the greenery and the view of the historic landmarks, creates a sense of serenity and admiration for the beauty and history of the area. It is an ideal place to relax, enjoy nature, and let your gaze wander over the rooftops and monuments of the city.

Modern art museum
Museum der Moderne Salzburg, located in the New Residential Palace (Neue Residenz), is a must-visit for art and cultural history enthusiasts. The museum showcases modern Austrian artists' graphics and photographs within its Baroque-style architecture. With 3,000 square meters of renovated space, visitors can immerse themselves in multimedia-enhanced exhibitions that range from Bronze Age artifacts to rare 16th-century musical instruments.
Built to the side of the cliff, the entrance is quite interesting to go into the mountain. Though not the biggest art museum, the scale is not too bad and adequate to see variety of exhibits. Well curated shows.

This review is only about the one downtown, also known as the Rupertinum. They have an interesting exhibition of Daguerreotypes, showing many old pictures of people and of Salzburg as it was long ago. What struck me most, though, was the Hundertwasser decoration on the facade of the building. An unexpected and daring combination with the baroque building.
Marinus W — Google review
⛔️ CAUTION TO ALL TOURISTS! Do not take the elevator down from the museum as it 3.2 euros per pax!!! The counter ticket lady with specs (seen in this pic) was 100% racist and superrr arrogant. She had such an attitude chiding us about their "rules" on taking the elevator. Very weird btw, the elevator button is bigger than their prices and in no way self explanatory. They could better 1) Caution about the price to take the lift down 2) Not have such a despicable attitude towards paying patrons Absolutely RUINED our day at salzburg. Such a shame she is someone customer facing.
Isabel C — Google review
The staff is really helpful! There are two modern museums and they are not far away from each other, but the new one is on the top of the mountain so it will take people at least 10 mins to walk there. The museums are not very big, but the themes are very nice and meaningful!

I absolutely loved the Gunda Gruber exhib that I went to see here. 1 museum, 2 locations, different exhibs at both, both worth visiting and close to each other. The other location is only 5 mins walk and a lift. You can hike up if you're feeling very energetic. Your ticket works for both and I think you can use it up to a week (Double check this at the desk). So you don't have to over-do it. The work was excellent and the museum isn't massive, so you can get a nice, bite-sized chuck of well displayed, good quality modern art in the beautiful city of Salzburg. Well worth a visit!
Katy M — Google review
We had a couple of hours before our train to Munich and went in this museum. It is nice and has some stuff from Salzburg s 19 th century on wards. I am not sure it was worth the €14 ticket though.

Fantastic unmissable modern art gallery in Stuttgart. It's split into 2 parts - one in the city centre and one newer and larger part perched on top of a cliff with magnificent views over the city. The clifftop part is accessed by a pedestrian lift. The entrance cost and the lift cost is included in the Salzburg card. The photos show both items from the permanent collection as well as from the social exhibitions on in December 2019.

I love art, but art should inspire to something more than making me think 'the emperor has a complete new wardrobe'. It is a sin that taxpayers work to finance this silliness. But the view is good.

I do not recommend this place. The food is ok, but nothing special. It's expensive compared to its quality. The service is terrible. The owner is very rude. Schnitzel was large and very tasty😋 Potato salad contained too much vinegar in my mind but its about preferences) Staff was friendly, we had our beer and food really fast.

The waiter was very nice to us and the food came out very fast. The ox was moist the goulash was taste, but the bread dumpling on the goulash was dry, but other than that, it was amazing. A good place for dinner

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Red Bull Hangar-7, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Mönchsberg. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Red Bull Hangar-7 is a futuristic building located next to the main Salzburg Airport. It houses the Flying Bulls display team and features various aeronautical artifacts, including airplanes, motorbikes, rally cars, and Formula 1 exhibits. The hangar also boasts several bars, a cafe, and a Michelin Star restaurant. Its unique architecture with a hydrofoil dome makes it an exciting place to visit.
Bucket-list experience – highly recommended! Red Bull Hangar-7 was an unforgettable stop during my trip to Salzburg. The combination of aviation, motorsport, and cutting-edge architecture is unlike anything I’ve seen before. The displays — from historic planes to Red Bull’s Formula 1 beasts — are absolutely stunning. You can really feel the passion for speed, precision, and innovation in every corner of the space. I’ve uploaded some photos I took during my visit — but honestly, they don’t do it justice. You have to experience it in person to really appreciate the scale and atmosphere. The best part? Entry is free! There’s also a Michelin-star restaurant and a stylish bar inside, which adds to the overall premium feel of the place. Whether you’re a motorsport fan, an aviation enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates world-class design — Hangar-7 is a must-see. 10/10 would visit again.
Nitz J — Google review
The building has incredible architecture. Impressive. Admission is free. Inside there is a neat exhibition of contemporary artists, which makes the place even more interesting. We visited it early on Thursday, but unfortunately the planes were taking them out of the hangar to participate in flights and we couldn't look at them. Fortunately, the cars and motors were there and we're able to look at them at least. The fan shop is not very big, but you can find your favorite Red Bull item.

A wonderful museum to visit if you love airplanes and cars for sure!!! The admission is free and you can simply just walk in! The ice cream place near the entrance is also very delicious. And I’d like to mention the best for last in my opinion; the restrooms. PLEASE go visit them, they’re absolutely BEAUTIFUL AND VERY SANITARY. It felt like luxury treatment in there haha! I went to this museum with my father, but I would love to visit this place again with my friends next time I travel to Switzerland! ♥️♥️♥️

Stumbled on this by chance, was recommended by the person who's apartment we book for our holidays. It's free to enter which is awesome, has a small collection from bikes to F1 cars to planes and helicopters. Loved seeing the F1 cars up close as a massive fan. Doesn't take long to look around though so don't expect to be in there anymore than an hour.(But that's my opinion) Overall pretty good and worth a visit.

Visiting Red Bull Hangar-7 was an incredible experience! ✈️🚁 The unique architecture of the building itself is already impressive, but the real magic happens inside. The exhibition of historic airplanes, Formula 1 cars, and helicopters is simply breathtaking. Everything is perfectly arranged, and you can really feel the spirit of innovation and passion for speed. The place combines history, technology, and art in such a fascinating way. The atmosphere is modern and inspiring, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s a must-see in Salzburg not only for motorsport or aviation fans, but for anyone who enjoys extraordinary places. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dariusz G — Google review
Absolutely superb place to visit if you're near Salzburg. It's completely free and it's a working hangar, which means that you can see planes come in and vehicles moved around while you're there, which gives it a different vibe than if it was a display-only place. The building itself is quite cool, with glass all around and trees inside, with a little art gallery to the side and a cafe/restaurant. There's plenty of free parking outside and it's very easy to access by car. This was one of the highlights of our trip, even though we only spent 1 hour here for a walk-around and coffee. The indoor walkway closes in the late afternoon, so make sure to go before then if you want to see the vehicles from above!

Great attraction. Amazing display of Red Bull F1, Flying Bulls, and motorcycle history. Free entry to the museum. Bar and events. Great location.

What a great place to visit - even better when you find out it’s free! Brilliant place to go before returning to the airport to come home. We caught the bus from S’burg and got off just before the airport, visited then got the same bus to finish our journey. We were in there for 1.5 hours, incredible cars & planes etc as well as some cool artwork. The building itself is worth the visit - stunning architecture 👍

Stiegl-Brauwelt is a must-visit destination for beer enthusiasts in Salzburg. The brewery offers a multi-sensory exploration of the world of beer, featuring exhibits on brewing history and a modern brewhouse where visitors can witness the bottling process. Additionally, guests can indulge in Austrian cuisine at the brewpub and restaurant. Stiegl, a family-owned brewery since 1492, is renowned for its popular beers that are widely available throughout Austria.
We did a guided tour with Anna, she was excellent. The portions of the samples were impressive and they tasted delicious. The whole thing is done very well indeed - the beer, the tour, the museum, the food, the beer garden, the shop, the site, just everything. Highly recommend.

We really wanted to enjoy this more, but had an interesting time. We took the self guided tour that was included in the Salzburg card. The museum was large and had some interesting features, but to me it felt bigger than it needed to be for what they actually had on display. We enjoyed the video at the beginning but had to circle around a few times before it started playing in English. We ended up getting lost and couldn’t find the self tap room and exit, so had to exit out the beginning. Another tourist we’d seen inside said that they found the self tap room, but their self guided tour ticket wouldn’t let them make any pours. Since we had the Salzburg card it was “free” but if we’d payed for this it would’ve been pretty disappointing. Overall not the worst brewery museum experience but definitely not the best.
Madeline K — Google review
I've visited other brewery museums, but this one is the best. I didn't expect it to be so big and so well-made. The museum has several floors. There is a film hall in which a film tells about the history and production of #Stiegl beer, there are many digital points, there is a lot of history. We visited it without a guide and it was still very interesting. Great! First you go to BRAUSHOP and buy a ticket. If you have a Salzburgcard, the entrance is free. The entrance to the museum is at the cash register. With the ticket at the end of the museum, there is a bar and you pour yourself a beer. After the tour in BRAUSHOP, you taste one of their new beers, so it's a good idea to visit the museum at least 12:00. When buying the entrance ticket to the museum, you are given a coupon for a 10% discount on everything in the store. When you buy something, you also spin the wheel of fortune, where you are bound to win something. At the end, they even gave us a cider as a gift. A great experience. Definitely visit it.

Stigel Brewery Tour - Visitor Center - English Tour. An hour and a half tour of the museum + the factory on site and the production line. An hour and a half tour with explanations of the entire production process and the history of the Stigel company. Tastings of 4 different types of beer (1/3 cups each time) A very interesting tour. The guide explains the entire process and the history of the company in an interesting and unique way. We go through 4 parts of the factory and tour the company store. The cost for adult 22 eruo.

We came here to have lunch and try the beers and we were positively surprised by the food. We weren't expecting much, but all dishes were tasty. I would recommend the Stiegl Brat'l. I also personally like Stiegl beer, in general. I would recommend eating in the garden, if the weather allows. We didn't do any tours or visits.

The best beer we had while in Austria! The himbeer was absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed our meal.
Jessica F — Google review
We did the brewery tour and it was one of the few things on our trip we were underwhelmed by. Not sure if it was a poor guide or just not a great tour but will share key points: - about 90 minute tour which felt WAY long for what you saw. Lot of just standing around time - you get 3 beers, they were good, we had a large group so lot of the time was one guide pouring the beers - we went on a Saturday and the plant isn't running at all so it was a let down (there are several days of the week the plant is idle) - if you plan to eat there, book reservations in advance, they are sold out often - we didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food - guide used a portable speaker but was still tough to hear him at times I hate to say it but it was honestly really boring - all 4 of us said same thing that we would have not booked this.
Greg H — Google review
pleasant experience. We visited the museum where we were at the end of tour also given a beer to taste and a radler as a souvenir. We also decided to have lunch in their restaurant where we were served quickly, the food was very good and the price was moderate. We paid 112€ for a wiener schnitzel, fried chicken, a children's menu, fried wild boar, pumpkin soup, 5 beers, juice and 1 dessert

Salzburger Marionettentheater

Performing arts theater
The Salzburger Marionettentheater is housed in a historic 1893 building that has been transformed into an auditorium and stage for classic marionette productions. The theater, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site, boasts an opulent setting with stucco ornamentation and chandeliers. The attention to detail in costumes and backdrops is remarkable, and the skilled puppeteers bring wooden puppets to life with their expertise.
Love the way it forms part of a historical landmark. Small museum, but packed with marionettes. Some interactive activities to play with included. Overall fun for young and old.

We saw The Magic Flute. The puppets were beautifully made and the performance was very charming. Our view was not so good because of taller people in front of me. There were some subtitles shown to help explain the story, but a bit more would have been helpful.
Leila S — Google review
I came to see The Sound of Music show. It was breathtaking. The skill of the puppeteers was exceptional, bringing the story to life in new, creative ways. The show is reasonably priced, and the theatre itself is beautiful. The puppets and scenery are works of art in themselves. It was an amazing experience.

Here to see the magic flute done in marionette style. Simply breathtaking , the whole experience was amazing. My first opera and marionette show. Great value for money and a lovely theatre. A must see , the puppeteer are masters

Cash only inside for beverages, and only available before the show and intermission (drinks/wine can't be taken inside) This was different, fun, quirky, ~ 2.5 hours with intermission.

Wow. Dont go to Salzburg and miss this. It was amazing. Absolutely loved it. Come on time for in the beginning they kind of show u the setup as the music gets started. The puppets were even stretching pre show. Standard for the area there isn’t ac in not sure about heat so just dress so your comfy. But I LOVED this so much as did my whole group who had no idea what we were doing. If you don’t know the show you’re seeing read a little about it before you go. There are some basic descriptions on the side walls that will help. But enjoy the magic of this amazing artistry and theater !

Visited on a Sunday to see a performance of Der Alte Baum (The Old Tree). This beautifully performed show played to a full house with live music from the orchestra and incredibly talented opera singers. Highly recommended.

Authentic experience, very few places still deliver this type of theatre. Bar area for drinks. Seating quiet flat, so you may want to sit in front rows (4-7).

Mönchsberg, also known as Monks Hill, is a rocky plateau above Salzburg offering stunning views of the old town and the Alps. This wooded ridge features meadows, castles, and a modern art museum that can be reached by a lift. The area is home to notable attractions such as the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter with buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, including a church remodeled in Rococo style.
We visited the modern museum and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely views and forest walkways. You can even take your dog for a walk here. Nice castle view and interesting architectural construction where you can exercise your vocal cords and hear it echo.

Mönchsberg @ Salzburg 🌿🇦🇹 📍 Salzburg Old Town Mönchsberg is a scenic hill and green parkland stretching along the western edge of Salzburg’s Old Town, offering some of the best elevated views over the city. The walking trail runs along the historic defence wall and is dotted with viewpoints, small gates, and cultural landmarks. I explored Mönchsberg as part of my hike down from Fortress Hohensalzburg, first passing the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, then crossing Schartentor before reaching Humboldtterrasse. From here, panoramic vistas unfolded—the red and grey rooftops of the Altstadt, the green domes of Salzburg Cathedral, the Salzach River winding through town, and the Alps beyond. It was surprisingly quiet along the trail, with only a few locals enjoying the park and the view, making the walk feel peaceful and unhurried. Eventually, I continued to Klausentor, took a short break at Café am Kai, crossed Müllnersteg footbridge, and returned to Mirabell Palace. 🧭 Tip: This is one of Salzburg’s best free activities. Come in the late afternoon for softer light and fewer people. Wear comfortable shoes—the trail is easy but involves some inclines and steps.

Either you go with Festungbahn (cable car) or by foot through stair, that's fine. The best place to see sunset in Salzburg you'll agree when you see it yourself.

We started our walking tour of Salzburg at the Mirabell Gardens, crossed the river walking around the Altstadt then got on the slopes of the Monchsberg climbing up the stairs at Toschaninhof & walked along the path past the modern art museum & various viewpoints all the way along the cliff edge & then down the hill crossing the river over back to the Mirabell gardens on the Mullnersteg bridge. Nice opportunities to get high various high views over the city from this walk.

A fantastic opporunity for a trip above a baroque city. Pleasant walks in the forest and from vantage points you can see the beautiful panorama of the Alpine town with its many towers. In the meantime, a restaurant, a buffet,... I rest on a bench. This is also one of the programs not to be missed when visiting Salzburg 🇦🇹
Borza J — Google review
Slightly steep at the start of the walk, but you can reach hohensalzburg fortress via this route. Start of the route is at city centre, need to walk up few flights of stairs

UNCLE VAN-Steingasse is a Vietnamese restaurant in Salzburg that offers a unique dining experience. The menu allows customers to customize their dishes by choosing from a variety of vegetables, rice, and noodles, making it perfect for vegans and vegetarians. The chef, Van, personally prepares the Asian cuisine and swears by his vegan sauces available in various flavors. The restaurant also offers a pleasant ambiance, friendly service, and the option to watch the kitchen through a live stream.
Not the first time choosing this restaurant for dinner as I live nearby, it’s my ‘best to go’ place for yummy food with friends in Altstadt. Good quality, good service and good prices. Highly recommended if you like Vietnamese food, their ramen is the best! 👌🏼

A hidden gem right in the heart of a touristy district. The soup had the right amount of spices and very flavorful. It’s a nice palate cleanser after eating the usual Austrian food, at a reasonable and affordable price.

Great place! The food was absolutely delicious – especially the Pho soup, which was aromatic, fresh, and just what you’d expect from authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The service was quick and very friendly, and the whole atmosphere made me feel right at home. Definitely worth visiting Uncle Van in Salzburg – I’ll be coming back for sure! 😋

The food is delicious and definitely reasonably priced . Plus the place upstairs so comfortable with a chill vibe . Worth coming here at any time of the day to just have a warm bowl of Pho and a platter of sharing plate to eat amongst friends

It's a great place where you can pick your own ingredients for your wok dish. The food was very good. The staff was very friendly. There are more tables in the 2nd floor. The interior is modern and cozy. What could be improved is the toilet which could be cleaner and where all the chemical cleaning equipment was visible. Some window-cover to hide the view from the neighbors would be good. All in all we recommend a visit.
