Paimpol in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Paimpol, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Paimpol is a small Breton harbor town known for its maritime heritage, with a picturesque old port once tied to cod fishing in Icelandic waters. Its historic center features narrow streets, granite houses, and a 13th-century abbey (Abbaye de Beauport) overlooking the sea. The town makes a good base for exploring the nearby pink granite coast, coastal paths, and the island of Bréhat, accessible by a short boat ride. Regular markets, seafood restaurants, and occasional maritime festivals add to its local character.
With favorites like Milmarin, Hôtel Restaurant Le Goas Plat, and Point de Vue Tour de Kerroc'h, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like La Cabane sur les Quais and Charlotte O Crêpes so you can get the best taste of Paimpol while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The port serves as the heart of this picturesque village, steeped in maritime history since its first quay was constructed in 1762. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the harbor, where quaint shops and inviting eateries abound, perfect for savoring local delicacies or picking up unique souvenirs.
I always love this place. Small city esp when you visit in September, the cozy wind completed the calmness

Magnificent place to Moore your boat . You can only go in and out at high tide . You have everything you need surrounding the port . There are magnificent places to eat and some wonderful shops . There is a place to service your boat or repair your boat . The tourist information center is right on the marina if you need anything.

Nestled in the charming town of Paimpol, Carrefour Paimpol is a delightful supermarket that promises an extensive selection of high-quality products. Located on Rue Raymond Pellier, this shopping haven not only caters to your grocery needs but also emphasizes sustainability with its Too Good To Go basket. This initiative allows customers to snag fresh fruits, vegetables, and delectable bakery items at discounted prices while helping reduce food waste.
I really like this supermarket, lits of choice, staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. Can buy food and drinks here, but also electrical goods, garden products, home and cookware, and still buy all your essentials. They have a lot of local products and the prices are competitive. Would highly recommend.

Great shopping center with a full choice of quality goods and groceries. The only criticism is as it such a large store, it could be better organized. There are several locations for several of the same type of items. Bio tomato sauce, for example can be found in several locations not at all close to one another.... But, with fantastic variety of choice and French quality, it's well worth the trouble of searching about.

Abbaye de Beauport is a well-preserved monastery and garden located in the northern part of Brittany. Dating back to the 13th century, this imposing Gothic site offers visitors a glimpse into its rich history and cultural significance. The abbey's stunning ruins and picturesque cloisters provide ample opportunities for exploration and photography. Throughout the year, various events are held at this cultural hub, making it an engaging destination for visitors of all ages.
Beautiful old abbaye with scenes straight out of a romantic era painting. The gardens and orchard is beautiful and makes for a wonderful visit.
Simon B — Google review
Excellent experience. Beautifully maintained and with clear, well composed explanations. The building is obviously a ruin but the work done to maintain it has been very sympathetically directed. Just the right degree of renovation, but with enough decay and collapse to maintain the romantic feel. We were so pleased to find such a site that we could visit without leaving our dogs in the car. They were welcomed throughout.
Simon R — Google review
A peaceful and picturesque stop. Even with a short visit, Abbaye de Beauport leaves an impression — the ruins are beautifully preserved, and the views of the sea and gardens through the old stone arches are stunning. There’s a calm atmosphere throughout, perfect for a quiet walk and some lovely photos. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The ruins of this ancient abbey are beautiful. In summer, we can see fruit trees and green areas with a background view of the see and islands.
Gerardo L — Google review
Lovely Abbey in the sun or rain . The lawn on the way in to the abbey in spring is a mass of wild flowers and is beautiful. The outside walks are free , but you get into the Abbey itself costs , 7€ for adults and 4€ for concessions.(2024) The ruins are architectural and very photogenic. Inside you learn of the history, with cards in different languages and an visual display showing the day of the monks who once lived there. Just outside is starting point for the Camino de Santiago. The walled garden has many fruit trees, apples and pears , bushes raspberries, red , black currants and gooseberries.. It also has various old roses , that are truly beautiful and possibly unique. There are normally exhibitions on , and when I visited , they had tapestries of satellite images taken around Brittany. These are truly amazing. There is a cafe too , if you need a break . The staff were very helpful and do speak English , if your French is not so good .

Historical landmark
Nestled in Ploubazlanec, just across the picturesque Baie de Paimpol, the Point de Vue Tour de Kerroc'h stands as a striking granite monument reminiscent of a lighthouse. Erected in 1873 on Krech Mahaf hill, this twelve-meter tall tower offers breathtaking panoramic views over Paimpol Bay and its surroundings. A short hike from a nearby parking area leads you to this scenic spot where you can enjoy the serene beauty of Brittany.
Lovely walk up there. Great place to watch boats in an out of Paimpol.
Nick H — Google review
The hiking trail from paimpol is well marked and relatively easy. Views are spectacular. I did not climb up the tower. It looked pretty claustrophobic, but views from the bottom were great. There is a route that continues on to a lovely village and the port at the point. About 7-8 miles round trip. Lovely hike and great views. Trails are yellow and also red and white blazes.
Amy K — Google review
Nice hike to get here, although the last bit is very steep. Nice views from the site. The tower itself isn't really anything to write home about.
Steve S — Google review
100m from the carpark (5 cars) with a good path, the tour is located with excellent views of Paimpol, the estuary and surrounding beaches. However many people visit Brittainy it still feels empty and this tour was a good example of this. The tower can be ascended using the spiral staircase to a lower platform. You are able to climb the upper portion as well but the top is gated. Still good fun. A secret of this area is a large picnic area that overlooks Paimpol harbour walls.

The Milmarin museum offers a splendid exhibition dedicated to Pierre Loti, providing an essential perspective and context. The museum itself is pleasant and spacious, complemented by a nearby expansive garden. Adjacent to the museum is the poignant wall of the missing in the cemetery, honoring sailors who vanished during fishing expeditions off Iceland. This memorial evokes deep emotions and serves as a reminder of their sacrifice.

(Translated by Google) Interesting exhibition on sea fishing and the merchant navy. It is fun with mini “workshops” and is well suited to children. The visit is on two floors (with elevator) and lasted 1 hour min because we did not watch all the videos, 1h30 to do everything seems reasonable. The texts are also in English. We were also well informed about other local activities. A good time (Original) Exposition intéressante sur la pêche en mer et la marine marchande. (Translated by Google) Two exhibitions were on offer when we visited this place: one dedicated to Pierre Loti and the other to the merchant navy. The 1st is very complete, the 2nd, despite an original scenography, left us a little unsatisfied: more superficial because it only skims over a few major themes (but perhaps it is aimed more at children...). The place is very pleasant and the site (against the cemetery) is really beautiful. It’s a nice outing idea on rainy days.

The museum is pleasant and airy, just behind and next to it a large garden has been set up and, in the cemetery right next to it too, we find the wall of the missing (sailors who disappeared during fishing campaigns off the coast of Iceland), very moving. (Translated by Google) Absolutely no interest. I was expecting a true immersion in the maritime world, but Milmarin is reduced to a succession of explanatory sheets and videos. No objects to observe, no models, nothing to handle or explore concretely. We read, we look... and that's it. The lack of interaction and discovery makes the visit monotonous, almost academic. A shame for a place that could be much more lively and captivating (Original) Absolument aucun intérêt. The Mur des disparus en mer, a historical landmark in Iceland, is a place that evokes awe and contemplation. Its significance lies in its commemoration of the numerous sailors who tragically lost their lives at sea. La Cabane sur les Quais is a charming restaurant located away from the touristy crowds, offering a laid-back atmosphere with a woodsy decor and a spacious terrace overlooking the port. The menu features delectable tapas, seafood, and steak, making it an ideal spot for casual gatherings with friends or family. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. One of the best meals I’ve had visiting Brittany! The vibe of the area was great, a market, a live band and a lot of visitors enjoying this great port town!

Andrew B — Google review
The ambiance was decent—not particularly impressive, but not bad either. However, considering the price, I expected a more refined overall experience. The food was underwhelming. For example, the tuna teriyaki was too salty for my taste, and the tuna itself was only half-cooked, which I didn’t find appealing—especially since it had gone cold by the time the rice was served. Waiting for the rice while the rest of the food sat on the table really affected the meal, as the dishes were clearly meant to be eaten together. Service was quite slow, despite the restaurant not being busy. There was a long gap between the entrée and the main dish, and the rice arrived much later than the cooked food. For someone who’s hungry, this kind of delay is frustrating. Overall, it wasn’t a satisfying experience, and I don’t see myself returning or recommending it.
Danica — Google review
Disastrous service, to many personal, not coordinated. First I was told I could sit where I want, I sat outside on the quay, but than I was told they didn't serve lunch outside. I changed table, only to see later that other people had there lunch where I was sitting before :-(All other tables had snacks ahead of menu me not. I had the formule du jour, tataki de boeuf which was good, but I had to ask for bread whereas all other tables had it without asking. I had to reclaim my beer when I got my first plate, which I hoped to drink as aperitif :-( . Than I had a filet de lieu which was minuscule, half the size of the one at the next table, the rice was supposed to be thaï, it was like glue, the vegetables were overcooked and reheated several times. I ordered a second beer which I had to reclaim twice and was served after I had finished :-( A pity that the google classification system insists on giving stars, no possibility to mark negsative impressions.
Schreiner M — Google review
All started well with fresh products, good food, nice spot and a friendly waiter. At that point we truly loved it. Then, they simply forgot about us. Had to ask for the main after a long wait, part of the fish was raw as they hurried to fix the delay but definitely very fresh (raw fish doesn't lie), one item didn't make it to the table but it did on the bill, it was promptly rectified. No meaningful apologies where given. What started as pleasant experience, ended up with stress. Really unnecessary and disappointing. Good potential but need to put their acts together.
Jean-Michel P — Google review
Great food well cooked and presented. Staff are quick in responding and caring during the dinner. Good choice of wines and superb dessert. It would deserve 5 stars unless the tables near the open kitchen suffer of the smell coming from it. If you book in advance (kindly advised to do so) all for tables far from the kitchen.
Franco P — Google review
Quaint little spot on the docks with a great atmosphere. The food and drinks were delicious! They had an amazing vegetarian dish of the day that was fresh and flavorful.
Brittany D — Google review
Decent place that's trying to do something a bit different and should be applauded for it. Nice little evening suntrap too on the West facing side of the harbour. Major let down though is the speed of service. No one minds waiting for a reasonable time but after waiting 15 minutes for our second round of drinks order to arrive and despite reminding the clearly overworked skeleton crew we just went somewhere else instead. Good concept and deserves to do well, needs to get the basics right. Edit: revisited about a year later and the game has been upped. Much better. Like they found their feet. As chilled and relaxed as before but the service now matches.

French restaurant
Charlotte O Crêpes is a charming creperie run by Jean-Marie, Charlene, and David. Their goal is to maintain the excellence and continuity of the establishment. The bright and clean interior offers a cozy atmosphere for enjoying their specialty crepes such as andouillette or scallops. The desserts, like the vanilla and caramel boule crepe with homemade ice cream, are also highly recommended.
Amazing experience. Born in Brittany myself, I thought I knew what a good "galette" was, that was until we tasted Charlotte O Crepes' ones. Not only the presentation was great, the balance of flavours blew my mind. We didn't book a table but were welcomed anyway, the service was fast, lucky for us since we needed to catch a ferry to Brehat. I recommended the place to all my friends and family. If you happen to be in the area, do yourself a favour and stop by, definitely worth it.

Good and friendly service and nice food.
Benedikt J — Google review
There are about 1600 Creperies in Brittany so understandably each establishment has to add something different (although I maintain the traditional "galette saucisse" of my childhood can't be surpassed!) Charlotte O Crepes offers some rather decadent galettes. I have a natural leaning towards the "Ploubaz" with -you'll never guess- sausage, produced locally. Others seem just as appetising. Definitely worth a try.

A 10-minute walk from the marina, with ample parking. And you have attentive staff who meet your expectations... even changing the breakfast time if necessary. Thank you to Mathilde and Franck. Thanks to you, I was able to have an excellent vacation.

(Translated by Google) Well-located hotel with a friendly welcome. Large and comfortable room. Just the impression that the room wasn't cleaned once. Other than that, a good hotel.

(Translated by Google) Le Goas Plat is a small hotel where we received a very warm welcome from Franck and Bathilde. The rooms are clean and well-equipped. The breakfasts are excellent and very comprehensive. A short walk takes you to the port of Paimpol. We will gladly return if we return to the area. + excellent Italian pizza. Best pizza I had in last months + nice, friendly service - slow service - we've waited 50 mins for our 2 pizzas) - no wifi - both their website and Google profile claim they are open since 18:30, but when we came 18:40, they told us they are open for sitting only from 19:00

Beautiful pizza and fast service. Lovely soft crusts with an abundance of flavourful toppings. We collected for takeaway and it was no bother at all.

Lovely place, great atmosphere, great service and fabulous pizza! We went early and thought it was quiet, but by the time we left the place was buzzing.
