The Bothy Braemar is a charming café located in a picturesque setting, making it a popular spot for hikers and bikers. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing excellent service even during busy times. The menu offers delicious options such as cheese toasties and soup of the day at reasonable prices. Additionally, the cooked breakfast is highly recommended, featuring high-quality meats and generous portions.
We popped in here at about 4:30pm on a Sunday and were delighted by the service and warm welcome we received. Even at that time of day, there were still a few people dining - the fact they close at 5:30pm every day feels rare for a cafe! They have a few dog friendly seating spots and we found a great table outside. We had three different slices of cake (all tasted fresh and were delicious!) and even when the person in front ordered the last of the lemon drizzle, the server very kindly sourced a lemon sponge shortcake (which was divine!) to make up for it. One of the kitchen members also popped outside with a bone biscuit for our dog which was a nice gesture. It's a lovely spot with lots of space in a beautiful location.

Great place!! Popped in for breakfast and the lady serving was super lovely and helpful. The breakfast was good value and tasty, as were the hot chocolates. Lots of variety of seating with nice views. Would definitely visit again.

Came here as part of a day trip. Children had scrambled eggs on toast and ham and cheese sandwich. Adults both had bacon, brie and cranberry toasties (one had with soup of the day which was lentil). Food was lovely and clean plates all round. Staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating throughout. Clean and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

I had the vegan suitable full breakfast (small - but it was big) delish. Though could have been cooked a bit longer (hash brown soggy and pale. Sausage the same. ) well worth the money. The views insane. Staff really helpful and a clean, spacious cafe. Loo was clean. No immediate parking but tons within walking distance.

What a lovely place! Great veggie options. We sat outside with our whippet and enjoyed a lovely meal in the Scottish sunshine. Relaxed and friendly service and the sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup was absolutely delicious. Oat milk lattes also great.

Kindrochit Castle, located in the village of Braemar, is a small ruined structure with just a few walls remaining. Despite its modest appearance, it holds historical significance and is associated with events like Sir Malcolm Drummond's kidnapping and Isabella's forced marriage. Visitors can explore the castle's rocks and ruins while learning about its ancient past. The site is free to visit, although donations for upkeep are appreciated.
It is worth visiting the ruins of Kindrochit Castle in Braemar. The ruins are central and free to visit, you can also leave a donation for the upkeep. It is worth considering just how old these ruins are. This would have been a significant stronghold back in the day. I am glad you can now visit as it was all fenced off the last time I was here.
Allan M — Google review
Pleasant enough place to visit, we had been to a couple of other castles and thought we would spend a few minutes here back in April. We were able to park next to it and there are picnic tables onsite.
D B — Google review
Very interesting, free parking opposite and in the middle of the town. This castle remains are very old - 8 centuries older than Balmoral. Worth a quick stop . It's free or you can donate in a box.

Small ruined castle in the town centre. The car park opposite is now pay & display.

This is a small ruin in a nice village among the spectacular mountains wich you can visit for free, carpark is free, clean toilet is available. Braemar castle is just a couple minutes away.

The Great North of Scotland Railway Building in Braemar is a unique attraction that never saw any trains come to its station, despite having railway lines laid down. Instead, bus services were provided until the building closed in 1966. Today, the distinct blue colors of the building make it an interesting sight to see in Braemar.

Located near Clunie Water and Kindrochit Castle, the Braemar War Memorial consists of two adjacent memorials. The first is a Parish war memorial, an imposing Celtic cross honoring the locals who died in World War I and II. Unveiled in 1921 by the Princess Royal, it stands as a tribute to the brave men from Braemar.
There are two memorials here side by side. One is the Parish war memorial and the other is a memorial to a Vickers Wellington which crashed in bad weather on the 19th January 1942. The local war memorial is an impressive celtic cross with the inscription to those brave men from Braemar who gave their lives in the two world wars. 1914 -1918 and 1939 - 1945. The Wellington engine was removed and placed here as a poignant memorial to those who lost their lives in the crash. Please take a moment to read up and remember. Lest we forget

The Aircrew Memorial in Bream, Gloucestershire, UK, is a poignant tribute to the airmen who lost their lives during World War II. Located near the village, the memorial commemorates the sacrifice of these brave individuals. It serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication of the aircrews who played a crucial role in the conflict. The memorial is situated in a serene setting, offering visitors a place for reflection and remembrance. The Braemar Highland Games Centre is a must-visit attraction in Braemar, Scotland. It offers an immersive experience into the living tradition of the Highland games, with a focus on the renowned Braemar Gathering and its historical royal connections. The center hosts the annual Highland Games Gathering on the first Saturday in September, often graced by members of the royal family. Visitors can explore exhibitions and learn about this iconic Scottish event.
Great experience and probably no better option for our first Highland Games. Spectacular site, well organized to get there and a complete day fillled with exciting events. We got there via the old military road from Perth. Magnificent views in the park.

Famous location for the Highland Games. Lovely town and visitors experience. Also a small museum.

We were able to attend the 2025 Braemar Gathering this year and it is a fantastic memory for us four from the States. It is held annually, the first Saturday of September. You are entertained with highlands competition in Highland Dancers, Pipe Bands, Tug of War, Track and Field including Heavy Events! Royals and celebrities were in attendance. King Charles and Queen Camila were in attendance this afternoon. Joanna Lumley (British actress who plays Hester Frump, Grandmama in Wednesday season) was here. The day was an unbelievable experience! We enjoyed the Exhibition Hall and Gallery within the Heritage Center. We had several pints at The Flying Stag Pub and Restaurant within The Fife Arms Hotel which is in town. The wooden benches you sit on when you purchase tickets for ring side are hard and I softened my experience with the purchase of a £10 cushion 🥰

A brilliant free exhibition and cafe, located on the World's most significant Highland Games Field. Over 6000 people 'Gather' in the arena to enjoy The Braemar Highland Games in September (presided over by King Charles III & Queen Camilla), and the site is really interesting with so much history and heritage. The Visitor Centre Manager (Katherine?) was absolutely brilliant and our 2 American guests really engaged with her and discovered so much. Coffee was great too! Thank you so much. Darryl
Selkie T — Google review
Lovely spending day at the Highland games! Unfortunately the stands were benches and we were squeezed in! I wish we'd know before as we would have taken our own chairs and sat on the grass with cheaper tickets 🎟 otherwise, fabulous 👌 👏 plus - we got to see the king!

Great place, obviously the highland games are here yearly, but there is also a good exhibition of the games and dth history and links to royals.

best thing i ate on my 2 week holiday in scotland was a vegan scone at the café at the visitor center!! real tasty. the people were very kind there and i found the exhibitions fun too. i wished a bit more information on the symbolism of the kilts, their patterns, different badges... etc.

Well worth a visit, beautiful surroundings. Free parking and toilets. The grounds are exceptionally well kept. The cafe is well spaced out and there is an outdoor seating area provided where dogs are welcome. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The art gallery and museum are both very interesting and informative.

The Cairn Grill Restaurant & Bar is a top-notch dining spot located on the luxurious Mar estate. The restaurant offers a wonderful and relaxed atmosphere, with attentive professional staff providing superbly cooked food using top-quality ingredients. Guests have praised the faultless steak, venison, and fish dishes, as well as the accommodating nature of the staff in catering to dietary needs such as gluten-free, vegan, and allergies.
Fantastic food. Excellent for Gluten Free. Vegan and vegetarian options available also. Very helpful and nice staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to go back

When I booked dinner last week it sounded as if they were so short of staff we might not get fed at all. However on the day we were welcomed, shown to a table and our order taken promptly. The food, wild venison arrived with a lovely bottle of red wine. An excellent meal.

Good COVID setup, well spaced tables and ventilated. Food was good quality, had two courses, would recommend the burger, great value and taste although difficult to eat. Only slight issue was no whisky on the drinks menu, so when we ordered a single (and were served a double) it was unexpectedly expensive (£18).

A wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Superbly cooked food. The staff were friendly and good humoured. The steak, venison and fish were faultless. Many more exclusive and more expensive restaurants could learn alot from them. As a side note (but an important one) they were also brilliant with dietary needs including gluten free and allergies.

Delicious meal, sizeable portions, local beers and nice gin selection. The staff was friendly and welcoming, even though it was busy they found a table for us.

Good service, Food was good and well presented. Only issue the onion rings and french fries had similar taste, maybe oil change or cooked in different fryer

Tempted out of our usual veggie inclinations by the great range of steaks and venison. Well worth it: absolutely delicious! And the profiteroles were outstanding! Excellent service, despite being short-staffed. You have to book though, as they're limiting numbers at the moment.

Gordon's Tearoom and Restaurant offers a warm reception to visitors after their outdoor adventures at Lairig Ghru. The coffee is superb, and even though the soup might have been frozen, it is still appreciated. The cheese scones are delicious, and the second cup of coffee matches the quality of the first. This establishment is now part of the Fife Arms empire and is definitely worth a visit while exploring Royal Deeside. Despite their busy day, the staff remains friendly and fantastic.
Such a lovely stuff for a light lunch and tea! I highly recommend trying this place out, we really enjoyed our tea and food! I had the ham and cheese sandwich and it was delicious, and the bacon roll was great as well. A great location with street parking, and there is a few cute shops to check out near here as well.

Friendly service, plenty avaliable table when arrived. Food was good, the beans was slightly on a warm side instead of hot, but overall was a nice Scottish breakfast and very fresh scone and good haggis to.

Was most disappointed with this tea room I had visitors up staying and I recommend we go into here for something to eat. I had been in a few years ago and it was really nice. Not now. The staff were chatting in the kitchen, all the tables were needing cleared, when ordering the staff member didn't get the order correct and one item we asked for was finished ,so was the next item but 3rd time lucky. My apple crumble cake came out and couldn't even cut with a knife it was that hard, and guess what no more as it was finished so had to choose something else. The teas came out after we were served the food. But the toasty never appeared and we had to ask where it was no sorry was given. Staff back in kitchen speaking to each other and still tables not cleaned. Will not recommend or be back Shame as it used to be a lovely tea room.

This must be the best place for coffee and light meals in Braemar ! Everything in the restaurant is very pleasant and well presented and looks new. The manager is very friendly and gives a very friendly welcome when you arrive. There is a great variety of food on offer. We had Parsnip and Neep soup served with homemade bread and a Cheese and Tomato toastie along with some tea. We can’t wait to go back for more it was so good, thanks.
