Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Glamis Castle, a 14th-century fortress and the childhood home of the late Queen Mother, offers guided tours of its opulent interiors. Visitors can immerse themselves in the natural history of the region and walk in the footsteps of historical figures like Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. The castle's interior is adorned with period furnishings, suits of armor, hunting trophies, and manicured stone steps.
A stunning historic castle with breathtaking architecture and beautifully maintained gardens. The guided tour was very informative, giving a glimpse into royal history and fascinating stories. A must-visit for anyone exploring Scotland!

Visited on a Monday lunchtime in the October school holidays, not busy and the tour was fantastic. So interesting and informative, no video or photos allowed inside. The gardens are huge. Kitchen and Italian gardens were beautiful, café lunch was fresh and tasty
Becca — Google review
Really enjoyed the house & grounds. The tour guide was so knowledgeable & I enjoyed learning lots about the history & characters of the house's history. We were lucky with a great autumn day but also really liked the Macbeth loop.

First time visiting Glamis Castle and it was lovely. The castle itself is absolutely breathtaking from the outside and our tour guide John was very entertaining and definitely knew his stuff. The castle was a vast history was damaged in battles, renovated and upgraded in various ways as well. The gardens and various pine walks are beautiful as well, during the tour John mentioned the gardens were designed first and then the castle followed. That is evident when you take pictures of either of them, the garden is so picturesque and flows very well. Overall well worth the ticket price and visit. I recommend going early morning and leaving before the afternoon rush.

Glamis Castle has the most beautiful grounds. We didn't have enough time to do the Castle tour but definitely coming back for it! We were there on a cloudy day but the whole space just makes you feel amazing! All staff are very nice and helpful and its credit to the staff who maintain this beautiful site!

Was passing by and was recommended to have a visit and I’m glad that I did! An incredible castle with extensive grounds that are all looked after immaculately. The tour was great, Abi was our guide and she did a wonderful job. Didn’t have much time to really take everything in so will definitely be back when next in the area.
Camilla C — Google review
Lovely Castle with such a rich history. So great to see it in such good condition and still in the same family. We went on a guided tour and the host was very informative with a few quirky tales.

Located on Kirk Wynd, the Gin Bothy Experience offers an award-winning gin tasting experience with knowledgeable staff and a mini museum showcasing bothy life and the traditional methods and plants used in gin production. Visitors can also explore the village shop with a cafe, while accommodation is available at the historic Strathmore Arms. Nearby, Montrose Basin provides a habitat for over 100,000 migratory birds, making it a must-visit for birdwatching enthusiasts.
I’ll get to the gin in a second, but let me start out with the experience itself. It by FAR exceeded any expectations we had. The environment itself is superb. We did a gin tasting and the tasting room was super cozy and inviting. They have the tasting menu down to an T. It’s all perfect. Allowing us to go at our own pace was amazing. It didn’t feel rushed and made the experience much more enjoyable. The staff were super friendly. Now for the gin. Everything they produce is phenomenal. The original gin and the Gunshot gins have reputations that are well earned. I will say that you shouldn’t sleep on the rhubarb!!! It is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend.

Highly recommend to book this experience. The snack board was fresh and delicious, presentation was top notch. The Gins were all fantastic, so hard to choose which ones to bring home. The origin story is lovely and always want to support women in business. The bothy song at the end had us in tears . 100% recommend 👌

Absolutely fantastic in all respects! Delightful location; great tasting experience - both the guns and food; staff polite, professional and could not have been more helpful. No pressure to complete our visit and a great shop and relevant exhibitions to look at. Outstanding value too! Completely recommend!

What a great experience! We really loved the gin tasting. We felt so warm and welcome and had an amazing time with delicious gins and great company by the other guests. At first we were a bit surprised that the tasting was not accompanied by a person but with a video. But actually it was really good that way, because during the tasting itself we to know the other guests better and had a lovely time together with them! We also ordered an additional sharing platter for two people and shared it among us three. We definitely can recommend that experience! Even if you're more into whisky tastings that's an awesome experience.

Fascinating mix of (great) drinks, interesting chat and some tasty food on the charcuterie board we pre-ordered to go along with our tasting session. It was just my wife and I and we were lucky to have our session delivered by the owner herself, and it was just amazing to hear her story and her journey so far. Cannot recommend this experience enough.
Martyn S — Google review
We did the Classic gin bothy tasting with the ploughman's tasting board. We were the only people on the 12pm session so had the bothy to ourselves. It was a fantasticly set up bothy with the tasting session run over a dvd by the owner Kim. There were 4 different gins to taste with 4 different mixers and 4 different garnishes. There was tea & coffee available for the driver and a driver's pack of 2 small bottles and a mixer to take away and try at home. Laura looked after us very well and apologised that the other 2 bothies that you can normally look around were out of commission due to the recent flooding. The experience was well worth the money and we would return and do it again. Plenty of gin, jam and other goods to purchase in the shop as well.
Karl F — Google review
We just stopped for something to eat and drink - amazing outdoor space, fab friendly and helpful staff, lovely display and explanation of the business. The video could rather be on a motion sensor as it was rather annoying to listen to ask the time while sitting eating. The ploughman's was lovely but could do with more cheese and less bics and bread. Sweets player was amazing, especially the shortbread - unfortunately there was none left for us to but to take home. Cocktails, though very well presented and tasted great im not convinced they had any alcohol in them. Very covid safe which, for an outside venue, is so welcome as most outside spaces are just left to clean themselves. All in all it was a wonderful experience and we would be back.

Popped in here while on holiday after coming across it while looking up doggy friendly places in Angus. It was closed the day we went to the Castle but as we were staying quite close by we returned later in the week. I had heard of the Gin bothy before as our local shop sells some of their gin liqueurs but didn't realise it was in Glamis village so we had to go. Wow, what a selection they've got. We sampled a couple and of course had to buy some to take home. I'm pleased to say since getting home I've discovered our local shop has quite a few of the flavours in stock now so we won't run out but will definately be back. Great wee shop and area telling you all about how the gins are made. Well worth a stop off if in the area.

Located in the charming village of Glamis, the Angus Folk Museum offers a fascinating and less extravagant alternative to nearby attractions. One of its notable features is the "King Malcolm's Stone," a Pictish cross-slab located at the Glamis village manse. The museum provides an intriguing glimpse into local history and culture, making it a worthwhile stop for visitors seeking to delve into the region's heritage.
Small but interesting. Keep walking towards castle then look at the kirk. It has a hidden path to river and a long walk to Castle

Nestled in a quaint Scottish village just a short drive from Dundee, The Strathmore Arms exudes an inviting charm that feels both luxurious and cozy. With interiors inspired by the renowned French designer Jacques Garcia, this former coaching inn offers a unique atmosphere that transports guests to another world. Visitors can enjoy delightful meals at the on-site restaurant, where the menu caters to diverse tastes and features generous portions of delicious dishes like chicken salad and classic fish and chips.
A cosy village pub that does excellent meals. Potion sizes are very generous, especially the nachos starter which could easily be shared between two people. The menu is mainly standard pub grub dishes. I really enjoyed my venison casserole. Service was excellent. Only area of improvement would be a larger selection of beers.

The hotel is well furnished with various different eating areas. The menu was varied with an extensive choice. Food was first class and the servings were large but a small helping was also available. Service was very good despite hotel being very busy. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a function or a meal.

Lunch for three at the Strathmore Arms. Cosy dining room, welcoming staff, and a menu that has something for everyone. Staff were helpful and friendly, food was good and plentiful. I had the chicken salad; lots of chicken, salad, coleslaw, and served with good portion of tasty chips. The fish and chips was also very good. Excellent lunch, excellent restaurant.

Hands down one of the worst pub meals I've ever had. I ordered a steak medium rare. It came on a hot iron skillet still cooking. By the time I had picked up my knife and fork the pathetically grey looking piece of meat was nearly well done. It's basic cooking knowledge to know that a steak needs resting before being served. It was rock solid in about a minute. It came with 4 giant, soggy onion rings that weren't worth it. To be fair the steak was pretty large and there were a lot of sides so if you like quantity over quality then go ahead. I would also suggest just tearing strips of leather off your shoes instead of getting a steak here. I couldn't be bothered to complain as I'd rather just get out of these situations quickly so I can pick up a cold pasty at a petrol station (an improvement on the meal I had just eaten) so they probably still don't know how bad they are at this place. Avoid.

I spent two nights here very recently, the 12th and 13th of Jan 2015. A very nice and relaxing atmosphere with helpful and pleasant staff. The food was exceptional and they were very accommodating even though I turned up a little too late on the Monday night, they still fired up the kitchen and made me a lovely fish and chip supper. I even rather embarrassingly dropped some food on the floor (I never do this!), the lovely staff there made no fuss of it whatsoever. Highly recommended. Nice rooms, food and staff. Couldn't ask for more!
