Sepúlveda

Historical landmark
Nestled in the heart of Spain, Sepúlveda is a charming medieval town that invites exploration and discovery. As you wander away from the main square towards the west, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the Caslilla River's mouth. The 19th-century House of the Counts stands proudly to your right, leading you onward to the stunning Church of Santiago. This architectural gem features a Mudejar brick apse adorned with blind arches and a Romanesque tower crafted from sturdy masonry.
Well worth a visit. Mediaeval town full of wonderful nooks and crannies with a fascinating range of houses and buildings in the old town, in varying degrees of repair The newer part of the town has some more modern but no less striking buildings. The views are extensive and splendid . Its popularity with the Madrid polulace is reflected in the restuarant prices. Not somewhere to go to eat if you are on a tight budget. Apart from the town itself the drive to it is through wonderful scenery and, in May at least, the roadsare empty and a joy to drive .
Duncan P — Google review
A lovely old town but looks as though only half the places are lived in. Many shuttered places and typical Spanish opening and closing times for food. Better have some snacks with you in case you get hungry. We were there in October and many places remained closed.

A fantastic location to familiarize oneself with a correctional facility that operated until recently. It offers the opportunity to explore the original cells and chapel, which are well-presented and accompanied by detailed explanations of both voluntary and involuntary confinements. Additionally, visitors have the option of purchasing joint admission tickets to access both the jail and the Museum of the Fueros.

(Translated by Google) The building began construction in 1543, and, except for some small renovations, its appearance has not changed much over the centuries. Of its three floors, the lower and upper floors were always intended for use as a prison (until the 20th century), while the middle floor is the one that has experienced the most modifications and uses. It was the Council House until a new town hall was built on the other side of the square in 1870, and then it became the home of the head of the prison until its final closure. Later, it was renovated to carry out cultural activities. The building, of about 400 square meters, was renovated in 2014 to house a permanent exhibition of an educational and informative nature that shows the use and ways of life in this type of prisons, with its social and historical implications. It also houses the Tourist Office.

Nestled just outside the walls of the charming village, Castillo de Fernan González stands as a historical gem. This castle is located near one of the lesser-known corners of Plaza Mayor, where visitors can admire its impressive structure alongside an 18th-century building that features a lovely balcony. This balcony not only offers stunning views but also serves as a venue for cultural exhibitions and marks the festive start of local bullfighting celebrations with its traditional Chupinazo.

Bar La Queda is a charming tapas spot nestled in the heart of Sepulveda, where the vibrant atmosphere draws both locals and visitors alike. It is worth finding the painting that tells the story of this Paulinao family and lady and this picturesque place. (Translated by Google) I have been twice and both times I have eaten a roast lamb worthy of a god, obviously anyone who does not know how to roast Sepúlveda Lamb must close, but the one at this place is spectacular. The croquettes are also delicious and I tend to be very picky about them (none like my mother's). These are close by. The service is fabulous, they are friendly, attentive, fast, it was an unforgettable experience without a doubt. We even spent hours having drinks and they didn't have any problem letting us enjoy the views from the viewpoint until they finished cleaning up. I go to Sepúlveda often and it will be difficult for me to try anywhere else. Voy a menudo a Sepúlveda y me va a costar mucho probar otro sitio.

(Translated by Google) A 10 restaurant in service, quality of dishes and location. They treated us super friendly and quickly. The spectacular candied artichokes, the incredible quarter of lamb and the delicious millefeuille. Plus, everything served generously. To put it another way, the cheesecake had too much jam, which killed the flavor a bit. In short, a 100% recommended place if you stop in Sepúlveda. We loved it!

(Translated by Google) Great food and spectacular views. If you are lucky and you happen to be in the covered terrace area you will enjoy them a lot. The lamb was just right, tender and very delicious. The waitress who served us was lovely. If you want to enjoy a restaurant with good food and views of a privileged environment... this is your place.
