Perched at an elevation of 1834m, The Eagle's Nest was originally built as a mountain retreat for Hitler and has since been repurposed into a restaurant with stunning panoramic views. Accessible only by a special shuttle bus from the Kehlsteinhaus bus station, this historic site boasts a rich World War II history and was once used by top officials of the Third Reich regime.
Awesome place to see the views of the mountain range and the village below. Only has a little bit of the history to read to say how iconic it is. Overall Great place to visit, definitely a must see if not for the view alone.
Stephen D — Google review
Expensive but worth the trip! The bus is a little confusing, but you have to take the city (838) bus to the Dokumentation station and then buy a tour bus pass to get to the top. 838 drops you off and picks you up from the same area. Convenient! Costs around 11.50Euro for round trip from the main station to the tour station. Keep your ticket for the return. Can also just buy a one-way ticket. We went middle of October. Snow was VERY slippery (and wet) so bring good shoes or walking poles. Was cold but not super cold. Thumbs up if this review helped you! :)
Colton W — Google review
We were surrounded by clouds going up the mountain, but once we went up the elevator, it was clear skies and beautiful. The house is a restaurant which i did not go to. You can climb a little bit of the mountain and take breathtaking pictures.
Debbie D — Google review
Great experience and amazing views!!! If you go when there is snow, expect no treatment on paths could be very treacherous. Would do it again for sure!!! Restaurant was very good also, would eat there again. You need to park then take a bus up to elevator.
Jim S — Google review
A must to go ,the special built buses will take you up the narrow path and the scene from the bus on the way up is something one must experience for themselves. Everyone will be guided into a tunnel where a lift will take you all the way up to the Nest. U will be able to have some snacks at the coffee house when u reach the top.
DFW N — Google review
Amazing….it was even better than I imagined. There’s a restaurant there that also doesn’t gouge you on prices. The trip up on the bus is an event in itself, followed by the short walk up along the original entrance tunnel and into the same original gold coloured lift. Incidentally the lift holds over 30 people! Then when you get out you are above the clouds and it’s epic. If you are near there, I would highly recommend it
Ritrka — Google review
This is a very cool place to visit. It’s great that such a historical place has remained largely unchanged since construction. Even if you’re not interested in World War II history, the site offers fantastic views assuming the weather is cooperative. We had a nice lunch in the restaurant and I hope to visit again with clearer weather.
Shawn S — Google review
A very good experience. The bus trip up and down is excellent, it makes you appreciate the work involved to create the road in such a short time period. The views from the top are just phenomenal.

Located near the bus station that takes visitors to the Eagles Nest, Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg is a museum dedicated to studying and remembering the history of National Socialism. Once a summer retreat for senior Nazis, including Hitler, this area became a significant seat of Nazi power during the Third Reich. The museum's exhibits cover various aspects of Nazi terror, from the forced takeover of the area to Hitler's racial politics and foreign policy.
Loads of Erie history on the area, audio self walking tour filled with photos, models, artifacts, and stories of the era. At the end of the tour you walk through 5% of the bunkers used.
R C — Google review
enter for free after purchasing bus ticket. get the audio guide in your favourite language (40 min guide is enough) and start your time journey and learn the connection of the black era to the local village. after finishing the floor, head to the bunker and witness a glimpse of ww2 as you follow the tunnels. very educational in this thematic.
David A — Google review
Why are the staff so unfriendly and hostile? It was the 29th August, 2025. We had done the Eagle's Nest and the tour operator allowed time for us to visit the Documentation Centre. Now, naively, it was our assumption that the centre was INCLUDED in the Munich to Eagles Nest trip but we were mistaken, as we soon found out. So we sauntered in - no queues in sight, no price list anywhere. We approached an entrance to the right before being accosted by a very rude woman. Now, there's a way to deal with people and there's a way not to. Had she been more polite, we would have apologised and simply paid the entrance fee, whatever it was - but because she was so hostile we simply left. That's 4 entrance fees you cost the museum lady! It costs nothing to be nice, but it does cost to be otherwise. Reading some of the other negative reviews, staff rudeness seems to be a common theme. At the very least have a visible price list on display or a sign at the tour entrance "No entry without tickets".
Gavin — Google review
Ticket to Kehlsteinhaus includes free entrance to this center, so it’s best to visit the house first and then come here afterward. Unfortunately, you can’t buy a combined ticket for both at this location. The place is easy to find from the bus stop. A free audio guide is available in multiple languages. If you follow the guide strictly, you might miss some of the wall displays, so take your time to explore on your own as well. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, and retractable chairs are available at the entrance for those who need them. At the end of the tour, you’ll also have the chance to visit the bunkers.
PRAJWAL M — Google review
A must see. A very well organised and planned out museum, telling the story of the area and the importance of enjoying the peaceful landscape while respecting the history. You get free entry with your ticket to Eagles Nest, alternatively it is €3 per adult. There are free audio guides: you can either choose to listen as you go by entering exhibition codes, do a 40 minute guide, or an 80 minute guide. The temporary exhibition, Portraits by Stefan Hanke was exceptional to see also. Although I had studied WW2 and other wars in school and university, I was still moved and felt it for the rest of my time in Berchtesgaden.
Kate — Google review
Seeing this bunker in person is a interesting experience, but I really enjoyed going through and reading all the history in the museum and seeing all the artifacts related to World War Two. In my opinion the most interesting thing there was the map used to plan attacks in World War Two.
Jake H — Google review
This is among the best history museums I have ever been to. It put the region's role in World War II and actions of the Nazis and historical artifacts of the time in context. It was thorough and included personal stories. We surveyed the entire exhibit and used the audio guide, as well. It was not over done, but it was well done with an extreme amount of detail. All history museums could learn from this center. Thank you.
Kathy K — Google review
Free admission if you have visited the Eagle’s Nest. We only did the 40 minute audio tour & the bunker as we wanted to get around all the other sites on the Obersalzburg, which is a little time consuming as they are spread out.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Salt Mine Berchtesgaden offers a family-friendly tour of a 1500s salt mine, featuring miners' slides, a salt lake, and an illuminated grotto. Once owned by Berchtesgaden's princely rulers, the mine now welcomes visitors to experience its rich history. The hour-long tour includes a ride on a miniature train deep into the mountain, where an enormous chamber reveals the mining process.
Good activity to do with kids and you can also explore the salt mine also. Perfect vacation here. However, taking a photo inside is not allowed but it not a problem😊 Tips: No need to wait if you buy a ticket in advance in order to choose the entry time before enter.
Ppemi B — Google review
The tour starts with a traditional railway into the mountain. Inside the mountain you can see and learn some interesting about the salt mining. The guided tour includes two times very cool slides from one to another level and a short crossing of an underground lake by boat. Recommend to buy you tickets online. Parking means extra costs unfortunately.
Öht — Google review
The tour of the salt mine was very well organized. Unfortunately, taking photos and videos is not allowed. We went down some sections using slides, and there was also a boat ride on an underground salt lake, accompanied by beautiful light shows and music. It was a very touching experience for me. I highly recommend this program to anyone visiting the area.😊
Marta A — Google review
What a great experience to make this tour in the salt mine. There are timeslot entries and once you are inside you get an overall to put on. Then you board a small train that brings you inside the mine. When you get off you take two wooden slides down to the level where the guided tour starts. That slide was big fun for most of the visitors. With the tour you make a long walk with regular stops at interesting locations where you get information from the guide or via the audio guide in your own language. There is even a small boat ride over a salt lake with a light show when you are crossing. At the end you go up again with a lift, hop on the train and back to the entrance. The salt in the mine was formed over 200 million years ago, during the Triassic period, when a shallow sea as part of the Thetys ocean evaporated and left behind thick layers of concentrated salt. Over millions of years this salt was covered with rocks and with the forming of the Alps moulded and squeezed between rock layers With the tour you can see those layers in the walls and you can taste the salt. The salt is now extracted using wet mining where large quantities of water are pumped in the layers via drill holes. The concentrated salt solution (brine) is then pumped to a processing plant to be turned into salt for all purposes. In the shop you can buy this Alpine salt and more.
Seimen B — Google review
We didnt go in. It is a tourist trap. Tickets are expensive 25€ and ~32€ with some combined tickets, 50minutes guided trip. Its beyond me why there has to be amusement parks in saltmines. Torda salt mine was enough, also for a fragment of this price, and you could stay there as long as you wanted. Which is great for lungtherapy. Western countries are so kapitalistic they would even make air as a privilege... Basic human necessities like peeing is already an expensive privilege in most part of germany. No I dont have coins, No I dont want to buy the cupon down in the overpriced shop, tankstation or whatever. It is rare to find free toilet in germany. Their store: (Their tablesalt is slightly cheaper in the nearby stores.) +They have iodized salt with selene in the merch store. - They have iodized salt with extra fluoride. I remember fluoride was the main experimental material in the soviet era, they poisoned the water source of an entire village, it turned out it is causing people to become paranoid and an intense drop in their IQ. For pregnant women it is highly recommended to avoid it. It also causes tyroid problems and the dissolvement of calcium from the bones into the bloodstream. Im strongly against this. It is just a scam that is good for your teeth. It is against your brain. Its not something advised to put in your food, but it is already in the tapwater... Which may explain the behaviour of society nowadays. The fact they still successfully mistyped my name in their answer also just convinces me we did the right decision not going in... Just because the government, the authority, the american FDA approved something as food and somebody got bribed to bend over the lobbying, it wont make things healthy or beneficial for the people or their health. Tobacco, sugar lobby, hidrogenized ultraprocessed plant oils, fluoride..etc.
Bea K — Google review
Interesting history of Salt mining combined with family fun (cart, slides, boating) in 1 hr. You can park the car for 4 euro on the parking on the other side of the river and road. Beware when weather is bad you need an umbrella to get to the entrance

Really good enjoyed it, audio guides for us English people, was good fun really enjoyed it, the slides were nuts lol 😆 really hoped to have picked up a visitor guide book showing the caves and things as photos weren't allowed and I don't recommend even trying it. But they certainly like their salt.

A salt mine located in the middle of a beautiful mountain landscape. The water in the river is crystal blue. The tour in the Salt mine is impressive/fun for old and young. You're driving 600 meters with a little Train inside the mountain.

Wonderful place for traditional German food! The beer is sublime, got to sample first which was nice! Lol. Average price but you get plenty, Ox in dark beer sauce was lush, but we couldn't finish it, sorry!

Cosy place, fast service and great beers Although, their food is rather pricy. More than 18€ for a Wiener schnitzel, and then not even veal but pork, that’s close to a crime At least beers for less than 5€

Their kitchen was closed when we arrived at 3pm but they still had really nice already cooked food options like sausages, roast pork, chicken and a whole lot of salad options. You pay by weight of the dish, price was really good for the amount you get. Would definitely recommend.

One of the best German food ive had so far. Portion was right. Not too big. Seasoned perfectly as food was not too salty as normally German food would be. Fried chicken was half of chicken and crispy outside and moist inside. Nice restaurant and quite big too. Service was nice though they were busy

Foods were delicious, especially our first try for the local food, Bavaria white sausage, the special-made sauce was what made it so delicious! Fried fish was also nice and recommended. Our waitress was kind and spoke really good English. As a whole, it’s a great dinner experience!

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Pilgrimage Church of St. Bartholomew, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Nationalpark Berchtesgaden. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Saint Bartholomew's Church, situated near Konigsee Lake in Bavaria, is a picturesque pilgrimage church dating back to 1697. The church boasts stunning red onion-domed towers set against the backdrop of the Bavarian Alps, creating a breathtaking sight. Inside, visitors can admire intricate woodwork, ornate altars, and beautiful stained glass windows in a peaceful atmosphere.
a very beautiful church from 1697. baroque style, 2 onions dome and red domed roof. only can be reach by the boat or after a long hike through mountains. the view at the shore of Königssee is worth it, the surrounding green fields are superb.

We visited the stunning Königssee and were amazed by the picturesque Pilgrimage Church of St. Bartholomew. Nestled at the foot of the Alps, its red domes and serene lakeside setting made it feel like a scene from a postcard. Peaceful, historic, and absolutely breathtaking—a must-see when in Bavaria!

A small beautiful church located next to the lake. You can not get here simply by hiking, better buy ticket. However the interior is not really spectacular impressive compared to other churches at the same era. Great for visiting!

A beautiful church sitting peacefully by the lake. I came here in late September during the low season — no crowds, no lines, just pure tranquility. Absolutely worth the trip!

Built in 1134, expanded, and rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th century, surrounded by mountains, a lake, and green meadows, it seems like something straight out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Fantastic.

Great scenery, you can rent a rowing boat for 25 euro if you want to row to this church
P R — Google review
Beautiful place, that’s true, but the church itself is seen in 2-3 minutes. The surroundings are much more appealing. However, the return system of the boats should be revised and have either booked return times to control how much people are waiting in line or have much more boats going from here to Königssee Seelände. We waited for more than 1h to be able to get back to the boat and return to the parking lot!…

Nice and compact place to visit, if you're already on Königssee. But be careful: if you visit this place in the evening (after 3 PM), during a tourist season, you might wait in a really long line (from the pier to the church entrance) in order to board the returning boat.

The whole place around Königsee is heavenly. Everyone should get down here and explore the beauty from St. Bartholomew's angle. The white mountains shedding their shadow on the chapel during sunset is a treat to the eyes. Unfortunately, i could not enter the chapel as i reached there at around 4 pm. If you want to explore Königsee to the fullest, begin your sojourn at sunrise!! You will be marvelled at the beauty of the Königsee!!

One of the most beautiful lakes I've been so far! The boat trip is a little long since it moves very slow, but the views are just great! We first stopped at St Bartholomew and walked around. The crystal clear waters invite you in even though its rather cold, but we were lucky it was sunny & warm. Then took the boat again to the 2nd stop Salet from there we walked approx. 15min to the next lake Obersee. If I was impressed at the 1st stop I was mesmerized here looking into the blue/green clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. So if you're planning to go do go all the way to Obersee its worth the trip. You could spend a whole day just walking around these lakes.

One of the most beautiful lakes in Germany! The emerald water and mountain views are just breathtaking. You can take a boat trip, walk along the shore, or just relax and enjoy the scenery. Everything is very well organized with good facilities and parking nearby. A must-see if you’re in Bavaria! 🚤🌲💚

This was our second visit to Königssee after eight years – and the lake still amazes us just as much ☺️ The boat ride is a fantastic experience – maybe not the cheapest, but definitely worth it. On the way, the guide explains everything in both German and English, and one of the highlights is when they play the trumpet and the sound echoes back beautifully from the mountains – a truly unique moment. We recommend stopping at St. Bartholomä, and then continuing by boat to Salet, from where you can walk to Obersee and further to Röthbachfall, Germany’s highest waterfall. The scenery along the way is absolutely stunning – Königssee is one of those places you’ll always want to return to.

Very beautiful and calm place , nice to spend a day here . Coming by car ? Roads are narrow around the lake so be ware most of the time either you have to give the way or the other driver. Parking is just beside the lake but it’s anyways busy
Rock K — Google review
No doubt one of the highlights of our trip to Bavaria, a boat ride across the lake and lunch on the far side. The location is extremely popular, the parking area alone is huge, I imagine it serves other activity points as well. Very touristy on the approach to the ferry jetties, loads of souvenir shops and restaurants/ food outlets. Around lunchtime boats leave every five minutes, we had no waiting time, we bought a ticket and hopped straight onto the next ferry. Everything was highly efficient. Loved it.

Malerwinkel is a serene forest area with walking trails and a popular viewing spot that offers breathtaking views of Königssee lake. The trail leads to the Malerwinkel viewpoint, providing an excellent vantage point overlooking the lake and extending all the way to Sankt Bartholoma. While it may be crowded during peak season, the short 20-minute trek from the parking lot makes it accessible for most visitors.
What a place! Just like its name suggests – it’s truly heavenly. Go there and take in the breathtaking view of Königssee. No picture can ever capture how stunning it really is.

A great boat trip on the most beautiful lake in Germany. The prices are fair, and we found the lines were not long since we arrived early in June
Nika K — Google review
A viewpoint with a stunning view of the lake and the little church on the far shore. Just a 10–15 minute leisurely walk from the pier through a pleasant forest.
Maria G — Google review
Beautiful viewpoint after a short 20mins trek/walk from parking lot brings you to the Malerwinkel view point. A beautiful View point to Koenigsee. It could be full of tourists during peak season. It could be little challenge with small kids to walk down there as slight uphill walk is there. For those who like to trek long trails, they have a lot of options around the place.

The views are always breathtaking. A short walk to the Malerwinkl is always worth it. Recommended early in the morning, or during meals when all the tourists are busy having their meals. The lake environment is always worth the trip.

Unique peaceful view that take your mind and keep you speechless. The lake is really one of the best I’ve seen with the mountains surrounding it.

A nice view point, with a view of the the Königssee lake, The journey from the port is easy and takes about ten minutes. The restaurant/the café is probably closed. You can walk further to the waterfall, the nature around is beautiful and looks untouched. I loved the place despite the rain :-) It might have been the reason there were not so many tourists.

Excellent for a quick stop or a full day. Nice swimming spots too. Easy and free for an hour parking spots. Takes about 10 minutes to walk to the vista point from most parking locations. Absolutely worth it.

Jennerbahn is a gondola and lift system located in Berchtesgaden, offering access to a winter sports resort and scenic summer hiking and climbing region. The area features five downhill skiing areas, including Obersalzberg, Gotschen, Hochschwarzeck, Rossfeld, and Jenner. Visitors can also enjoy ski touring in the Alps. The Jenner peak at 1874 meters offers unparalleled views of the Watzmann and Konigssee.
We drove with Jennebahn during the promotion. It was the longest day and shortest night. So we got back in the valley during night. It was really special. Stuff was friendly and professional. Cabins clean.

Scenic lake view from top, you need to hike a bit for it but it’s not that long. Has two stops I’d suggest you go to second one and to the top.

The view is simply incredible, but in my opinion, the price is too high. We paid 82€ with a visitor card discount.
Kristina S — Google review
The cable car ride up the mountain was really beautiful. You've got views of the Bavarian Alps all around, and you pass over cows grazing on the mountainside with their bells ringing to create an almost idyllic scene. It did cost us nearly $100 for just two people to ride the cable car up and down the mountain, so that was a little steep (no pun intended). Once we got to the top, there are lots of trails to hike. We took the one where you can best overlook Lake Konigsee. Spectacular views! Really beautiful!!
Kelly L — Google review
Decent cable car. I find it a bit pricy to pay 50e to go to the peak and back. But the views are stunning
AllPhoto P — Google review
The views from the top are beautiful, but we’ve been to other funiculars where the views can be even more breathtaking. It’s not worth to buy the ticket online, there was almost no waiting queue for the ticket office when we went today (13th August, around 11h00?) and that way they can take your Guest Card for a small discount. It’s expensive nonetheless, but we wanted to have this experience. However, you will not see the lake from above if you stay at the panoramic platform, even on the very top. You have to hike the trail, with uneven stones and no protection (you can easily fall off the trail… and really hurt yourself!), and it can be a workout especially if it is hot. So, not recommended for people with limited mobility. I believe this should be more clear for those buying the tickets to go up, as it can be a disappointment if you don’t want or simply can’t hike the trail that will lead you to the panoramic views with the lake. Also, we parked at the same big parking lot you use when you visit lake Königssee, but couldn’t understand if you could actually park near the funicular station or not (even though Google Maps says you can drive up to there, I believe you have to park at the big parking lot and walk to the station as we did).
André M — Google review
Great views. If you want to hike down from the very top, it takes over 4-5 hrs. It is very difficult to walk or hike down on the steep slippery gravel. So, you might need a round trip ticket.
Michael H — Google review
It was the loveliest day to take the cable car up to the top of the mountain. While rather pricey, the views were worth it. I would definitely suggest buying the trip up to the summit about 1800 m. It’s around 42€ per person. But if your accommodation provides you with a guest card, you will get 4€ off typically. the round trip takes approximately 20 minutes each way. We got to see a lot of skiers ⛷️ on the way up and down!

Schloss Berchtesgaden, once a medieval monastery and later the summer residence of the Bavarian royal family, is now home to a permanent collection of rare family treasures. The fine Renaissance rooms showcase sacred art, including wood sculptures by renowned late-Gothic artists. Visitors can explore two weaponry rooms displaying hunting tools and rifles from the 19th century, as well as enjoy the beautiful rose garden on the grounds.
Highly recommend to visit such a nice palace! Rich in art, architecture variety and so many nice decorative pieces presented there. The guide schedule is online, foreign languages are on printouts, even better: you have time to discover details while others were just listening to the guide speaker:) Shame, that photos are not permitted inside, so many great things to remember.

Beautiful little castle home to the remaining former Bavarian Royal family. It is situated in the town square of Berchtesgaden. There are tours but they are a limited times so please check carefully and arrive early. The tour is only in German but there is a paper guide in England. No photos allowed inside

We did really enjoy this beautiful and quiet small town during our tour to this place.
SS H — Google review
Very nice castle with lots of interesting details, but the guided tour moves on way too fast, with guide filling the airspace and instantly proceeding to the next step. This despite of the request to give more time to look around. Because of this hurry a couple of nice experiences were left seriously lacking. There's so much to see inside the castle that it's very annoying if you are forced to just run through. I guess she was just obeying the Orders. A disappointment because of the haste.

Schloos is a great small city. I recently visited and was impressed by the beautiful city center, the close proximity to The Eagle Nest, and the great variety of restaurants. The locals were also incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a great place to visit if you want to get away from it all and relax!

Nice and neat southern German town in the beautiful Alpine setting. Dozen od coffee shops, restaurants and stores with local products, semi precious stones (belief in the power od crystals that reaches to pre-christian times is obviously still alive here among some members od local community) and Schnaps (sort of brandy) infused with berries, pine needles od apricot aromas. Some terrific examples of late middle-ages "buerger" architecture as well as picture perfect small town castle placed at the outskirts of town. A bit enigmatic frescoes at the gallery opposite to the castle commemorate soldiers fallen in two twentieth century wars. Town has certain sinister reputation, but instead of trying to decipher it I would rather suggest spending some time on the magnificent Koenigslake some 6-7 km away.

Highly recommended for walking trails. There are restaurants/bars along the trails that are very beautiful and at great lookout points to take a break. Very beautiful river along the shorter easier trail as well, great place to take pictures. Parking is paid, but not too expensive for Germany.

Majestic mountain ranges and beautiful views to meadows and lakes in this area. Beautiful trails along the Hintersee lake. Great hiking in the mountains with spectacular views. Terrific St. Sebastian church in Ramsau by the river Ramsauer Ache. Parking everywhere difficult and expensive. Locals are not always happy with so many tourists visiting the area.

This is probably the best park I have ever visited! The nature is incredible 😍 The lake is very clear, lots of people were swimming there. The water seemed too cold for me (late August), but the view is really amazing! There is private parking next to it, boat rentals (12€ per hour) and hotels with restaurants 👍🏻 My recommendation! ❤️

I have been to many places in Germany but I can argue that Nationalpark Berchtesgaden is one of the most beautiful places, if not the most beautiful place, in Germany. Königssee is a banger with many hiking trails around. You can also climb the mountain Jenner which is also beautiful as well, which I did when it snowed! (Even better). Definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone to visit.

Gaststätte St. Bartholomä is a charming restaurant located near Lake Königssee, offering a delightful dining experience for visitors. The establishment operates with a cash-only policy and provides English-speaking service at the cashier. Guests are assigned tables and given numbers to facilitate food delivery by the servers. The menu features delectable dishes such as smoked trout and currywurst, which have received high praise from tourists.
We went during lunch time at around 1pm. Food was fast and delicious. Portion sizes are somewhat smaller for he high price but was okay. Menu is good for all people including vegan and vegetarians. Kid menu is also available. You can pay with card. Food tasted fresh and waiters were friendly inspire of the rush hour.

Food is mixed: their fried lake trout for two is not bad but their pork knuckle is bad (tough meat, chewy rind that’s not crispy). Prices are steep given the location so value for money isn’t great. But it’s basically one out of two options on the island so all things considered it’s ok.

Gaststätte St. Bartholomä @ Königssee 🥨🇩🇪 📍 St. Bartholomä, Königssee, Bavaria After arriving at St. Bartholomä by boat, I stopped for lunch at Gaststätte St. Bartholomä, a traditional Bavarian restaurant right by the lakeshore. I ordered the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) served with potatoes—a hearty and flavorful meal, perfect after the chilly, rainy boat ride. It was a rainy day, so sitting indoors with the warm, rich aroma of Bavarian cooking felt extra comforting. The crispy skin and tender meat paired well with the rustic potato side, and the portion was generous. Through the window, I could see the mist drifting over the lake and the iconic pilgrimage church, adding a peaceful, atmospheric backdrop to the meal. 🧭 Tip: It can get busy when tour boats arrive, so head in right after docking to secure a table with a lake view. On rainy days, indoor seating is especially cosy.

Service was terrible. Male waiter suspect might be owner was often grumpy and although waited to be seated he was annoyed and just said inside or outside and walked off. He kept on mumbling in German when he passes by Asians and seem like in a very bad mood. Ordered , food was very mediocre like with loads of salt. When it came to paying with his grumpy attitude he shoved the card payment device and said tip or no tip. Didn’t mean to be rude and said would like to pay for my food only. He again , louder and angrier “TIP OR NO” . I was shocked with such attitude and I said sternly NO TIP. Then he said “THATS VERY NICE OF YOU”. And I inserted my card to pay and he kept on saying suspecting cursing/ scolding in German knowing foreigners have no idea what he is talking about . Just take the boat and have a better meal at Konigsee

Ordered through the cashier. She speaks English. Only takes cash payment. We were assigned a table and was given a number so the server can locate us for the food. Smoked trout was good, and was toddler approved! I just wished it came with potatoes instead of bread. We also got the currywurst. It's one of the best so far. Every stop we did during our trip, I always try to get a curry wurst. So far, this is on top of my list coming from the palata of a tourist.

Fischerei St. Bartholomä is a popular spot for tourists visiting Konigssee, whether arriving from the main station or Salet. The fish is smoked on-site and visitors can watch the process. There's no table service; patrons order at the cashier and find their own seating, often sharing tables. While the fish is pricey, it's highly recommended for its quality. Fischerei St. Bartholomä 🐟🇩🇪 📍 Königssee, Bavaria At Fischerei St. Bartholomä, we tried their smoked fish, a local specialty freshly caught from the pristine waters of Königssee. The meat was tender and moist, infused with a gentle smoky aroma that enhanced its natural sweetness without overpowering it. The restaurant’s lakeside location makes the meal even more memorable—you can savor the flavor while gazing out at the emerald-green waters and the iconic red-domed St. Bartholomä church. It’s a peaceful, postcard-worthy setting that pairs perfectly with the rustic taste of the smoked fish. 🧭 Tip: Smoked fish is one of the area’s signature delicacies and can sell out quickly during peak hours. Visit earlier in the day or right after the main lunch rush to secure your portion and enjoy a quieter atmosphere by the lake.

The smoked fish is good. It is worth a try if you took the boat all the way here. If you decide to stay, order and pay for your fish inside where the expresso machine is. Get your fish and find a free seat. Seats can be found inside the expresso room or the alcove room with benches and tables. You can buy the smoked fish to go or to stay. If you get it to go, it comes cold and sealed in a plastic. If you get it to stay, it comes in room temp under a heat lamp. The latte is good.

This is the only spot in Königssee where you can grab a quick bite at the middle stop. The menu mainly features seafood sandwiches, so keep that in mind. The sandwich itself was decent, nothing exceptional, but it does the job. Convenient option if you’re looking for something fast and don’t want a full sit-down meal.

I stopped here for a "zum mitnehmen" fish sandwich to check off an experience off my list. They had a few different species of fish, including the catch from Königssee itself. The sandwich as such wasn't bad. But then not delicious either. If you're looking to sample fresh catch though, then you could go here.

It is a famous stopover for all tourists that sail the Königssee, whether you come from the main station or Salet. They smoke their fish in the backyard which is even open to let you see it. There is no service though, you order and you get your food right at the cashier, then you find yourself a seat and eat. Tables are shared. The fish is expensive but the best I have ever eaten. It is not from the lake however because there is too much demand. Recommended a visit.

Good fish and salad, it’s busy in the meal time so you have to be patient.(however, waiters handle well) The desserts is not fresh that the sponge isn’t soft and creamy enough. I will order only main dish instead of any desserts next time. But it’s a good place to chill out on the isolated place:)

The menu features authentic German dishes such as pork knuckle, Bavarian duck with orange sauce, red cabbage, and potato dumplings. Vegetarian options like potatoes, pumpkin soup, and knudels are also available.
Had a wonderful time at Gasthof NEUHAUS! It’s great to see the lederhosen tradition still going strong here. The beer was fantastic, and it was even better to enjoy it while looking at the stunning mountains from the terrace. The fries we ordered were crispy and delicious, a perfect snack to go with the drinks. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere of the place is fantastic – cozy, traditional, and welcoming. A perfect spot for a relaxed meal and drink with a beautiful view. Highly recommend it!

Excellent restaurant, full of traditional options and even more vegetables than most German menus. Pork roast and burger recommended from what we tried, but the home made bacon and caraway sauerkraut is excellent. Was also very excited to see palatchinke on the seasonal dessert menu, an uncommon and excellent dish with very high quality ice cream. Like most restaurants in the Berchtesgaden area, also beautiful scenery to sit outside, though also looked nice and cozy inside.

We stopped by here without planning to have a full meal — just wanted a small snack and some drinks — but the place was so inviting we couldn’t resist ordering some German food. Nice ambience! The indoor area is very crowded, but outdoor seating is available. We didn’t have a reservation and still managed to get a table. The food portions are huge 😅. I had read reviews saying the portions are big, but they are even bigger than other Bavarian restaurants in Germany. The dessert cake portions are also very generous and the daily cake (plum cake?) taste very good with cream. Prices are reasonable and the food tastes good. The crispy duck with orange and red cabbage is really tasty. The roasted pork was a little dry, but it comes with sauce so it was okay. We weren’t sure how to enjoy the side potatoes—maybe mixed with something? Septi is very friendly and helpful. She checked on us during the meal, and her smile made us feel very welcome. We wanted to pay with Amex, and she even changed the payment machine so we could—so sweet of her. “Terima Kasih, Septi!”

Really enjoyed our dinner here. Ne and my wife split the 1/2 pork knuckle and the Bavarian duo (2 pretzels with flavored creek cheeses and butter) and it was SO much food, but both very delicious. The inside is a typical Bavarian interior, which we loved, but opted to sit on the patio despite it being a little chilly. They have furs to sit on and blankets to use if you get too cold. Great view of the mountains from the patio and the service was very attentive and helpful.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Rossfeld Panorama Strasse. Not quite as popular as Berchtesgaden, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The Rossfeld Panorama Strasse is a picturesque mountain road that spans 15.4 kilometers along the high alpine terrain, offering breathtaking views of the Berchtesgaden Alps, Dachstein Massif, and Salzkammergut. It is the highest panoramic road in Germany, reaching an altitude of 1,600 meters with winding hairpin turns.
A wonderful winding road leads both up and down through the clouds. 😍 Absolutely stunning! The road can be reached by bike, car, or bus. However, there is an entrance fee for this section, depending on the mode of transport. For a car it was €9.50.
Marta A — Google review
The view from the top is amazing! There's a small cafe and restroom at the top of the pass. Around €9.5 entry fee for the pass!
Vivek P — Google review
Driving along the Rossfeld Panorama Street was absolutely unforgettable! The road is smooth and well-maintained, offering breathtaking views of the Alps at every turn. It’s a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, with plenty of photo spots to capture the stunning landscapes. Whether you go in summer or winter, the scenery is magical and worth every moment. Truly a must-see experience for nature lovers and road trip fans!

Magnificent view. In my opinion might be better than Eagles Nest. Eagles Nest is probably too high with too much clouds blocking the view. Took the public bus up instead of hiring a car. Interval is 2 to 3 hours but we managed to spend the time just walking around viewpoints. Along the way uphill, able to see the mountainous view gradually. Bus ride on 19 Oct 2025 costs only €2 to and fro trip. Well worth the $.
Kengcho C — Google review
Wonderful drive, it's really a toll road that brings you up the mountain and down again in a loop. The views from the road are absolutely gorgeous! Head up early to watch the sunrise, shoot timelapse photos of the clouds etc. It's also the location for many scenes from The Sound of Music.
Lone A — Google review
We stumbled across this on the way back to Salzburg from Eagles Nest. A must do if you have a car. Great drive and fantastic views. Opening scenes of the Sound of Music filmed up here.
G G — Google review
The views from here are the best in all of Germany. An amazing and unforgettable experience, and because of the small entry fee, there wasn't much traffic
Nika K — Google review
It's a beautiful drive for a small fee with a couple of photogenic stops, a small café, and can be comfortably combined in a day with a trip to the Eagle's Nest. The loop can be done in an hour or a bit longer. Most seem to drive clockwise, as we did. It's not the Alps' most stunning drive but very pretty.

The Watzmann Therme in Berchtesgaden offers a unique blend of relaxation, wellness, and sports activities across its 900 square meters of water surface. The architecture seamlessly integrates with the picturesque surroundings, inspiring the diverse range of thermal offerings. After an adventurous day exploring the area's hiking trails and scenic routes, visitors can rejuvenate their tired bodies in warm saltwater or saunas while enjoying breathtaking mountain views.
I liked it very much, ery children-friendly, very nice children pool-area. Clean, affordable, a little too crowded, maybe. The staff from the entry were extraordinarely polite. All in all, a positive experience.

Nice place but lots should be renewed. Menu in restaurant without pictures is horrible stuff, should look what another people eat )) but nice place to spend time
Dyadya V — Google review
Well organised, the kids love it. Very busy! Take care in the rapids with those who can't swim well. It gets very busy and I didn't feel it was safe at times. My daughter who is a good swimmer, got trapped under someone for a short time as people keep stopping on the entrance where the rapid gets stronger. I think the numbers in the rapids need managing and the layout amending also for safety. Someone may end up drowning in there. Pools are lovely and warm. The steam rooms were fab. Love the swinging chairs. It is a family spa so not a place to relax but to have fun.
Katie B — Google review
Small but precious. It doesn't have an overwhelming number of attractions, but everything is very nice and clean and it's very nice to stay for a day. My kids had tons of fun, as it was not too crowded and they used the water slide all the time, without any wait.
Thorsten H — Google review
What a great facility! Took my three kids to spend a day inside due to inclement weather. Five pools inside with relaxing areas as well. Lunch was convenient and reasonably priced (cost more than entry for 4+ hours with one adult and three kids.) Water temperature could have been slightly warmer, but it was a great day. My youngest two wore themselves out on the water slide (fun!!) for hours.
Roy J — Google review
Very nice place but the handrails and other metal elements inside the pools were dirty and oily, and a few diffusers of hot steam in steam room were broken and just dripping drops of hot water onto body. Bathrooms could be cleaner as well. Besides that, there is a chilling room, outside pool, smoking areas all over the place, and a restaurant.
Patrycja J — Google review
This isn’t a real hot spring, it’s just salt water, and the spa facilities can’t be operated by yourself—you have to wait for the scheduled times for them to turn on. The experience wasn’t very good.
Isawesome T — Google review
Front desk staff wasn't very helpful, especially since it was obvious we had never been there, but the multiple warm pools were very nice, esp the one half outside. Highly recommend for children too! Lots of play areas for them.

Gotzenalm is a secluded mountainside hostel located in a rustic log cabin, offering shared rooms and complimentary breakfast. The staff is highly praised for their exceptional service and helpfulness, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests appreciate the beautiful location, cozy hut, and delicious food. It serves as an ideal gathering place for hikers and mountain bikers, providing a perfect pit stop to 'Feuerpalfen'.
Food was delicious and the Alm is clean and really nice. Service was good until we asked for a different coffee that wasn’t Espresso or Cappucino. salads were great!

There appear to be some wildly different reviews on here that could put people off. In summary; what a fantastic little hut to stay after a hard hike up from the lake. Food was exceptional, service beyond reproach and so friendly. The views are stunning and to be fair I can’t criticise this lovely little Alm.

Nice place but hospitality should go up! The kitchen closes at 1830 but the way to tell this on the phone is not kind. We are guests so act like that: service with a smile please!

Mitterkaseralm is a charming mountain hut known for its great live music, friendly staff, and lovely cows. Despite the kitchen being closed, they kindly served delicious currywurst with plenty of sauce. The atmosphere is fantastic and perfect for enjoying a cold beer after a long hike. Prices are typical for an Alm on the beaten path, but the experience of savoring smokey currywurst and beer after a challenging climb is unbeatable.

This restaurant is a hidden gem, with delicious food and innovative recipes. The chef clearly loves running his own place and hopes to expand its popularity in the coming years.
Fantastic evening of five, vegetarian courses. All courses were amazing and had deep flavour and original presentation. Wines were also very well paired, bringing a sophistication to the whole evening. The restaurant is very small and had no more than six tables, meaning the service was very attentive with being over the top. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family visiting Berchtesgaden.

All dishes were elegantly and beautifully displayed on decorative and special plates and the taste was divine. The wines were great and service was wonderful. The owners Maximilian and Roxana have a green Michelin star for sustainability but they deserve a regular Michelin star for taste and presentation.

A lovely and most memorable dining experience provided by the Kuhbecks. A husband and wife duo that serve beautiful food using local suppliers and producers. Food was outstanding and we got matching non alcoholic pairings which enhanced the flavours of each course. We got the tasting menu which also included home made bread, a delicious amuse Bouché and a second dessert. Thank you for the most amazing experience

Tammy C — Google review
Delightful little restaurant that has the makings of becoming one of the best in the region. After a bumpy start to our night, we absolutely fell in love with the place. Initially, we were not met with any real greeting or welcome and had to stand by the entrance awkwardly as the hostess/server walked by us a few times before we were acknowledged and shown our table. My husband’s jacket was collected and hung but mine was not (not a big deal, but the inconsistency made me feel disregarded). A beautiful amuse-bouche came out, but we had to sit around wondering when our bottle of wine was coming. I think it was just forgotten, and we had to remind her, but in all fairness she quickly obliged and wonderfully decanted it for us. After those few first hiccups, her service became professional, smooth and friendly so that is all that matters. The whole culinary experience was masterful from start to end. Every plate, utensil, and dish was beautiful to look at, carefully presented, and delicious to eat. I always judge a restaurant based on its bread and olive oil, and theirs was top tier. I was pleased that they offer a set course option along side an à la cart one. It was very evident that all ingredients were exquisitely fresh and local. The small touches and play on colors, textures, and visuals were meticulously thought out and crafted. The indoor area is within a rustic tavern full of character and charm but only holds four tables, so definitely make a reservation. I believe there may be a courtyard that can accommodate more patrons in favorable weather. Our initial (somewhat) cold reception was more than made up for when the chef came out to ask us how everything was and sent us off very warmly at the end of the night. The food was utterly incredible from start to finish, and I cannot wait to go back again. I truly believe if they refine the initial reception to be more warm and acknowledging, they could very well be tapped on the shoulder with a Michelin star in the near future. Bravo to this gem!
Neg C — Google review
Absolutely wonderful little place, a true hidden gem. The food was really, really great and inventive - clearly a talented chef who wanted to run his own place. The place was small and for most of the dinner we were the only customers, I hope more people start coming here and the place stays open for our next visit!

Jenneralm is a panoramic restaurant offering regional delicacies in an upscale setting. Guests can indulge in a hearty breakfast, savory lunches, as well as delicious snacks and sweet pastries. The expansive sun terrace provides stunning views of the mountain landscape, making it an ideal place to unwind during a hiking or skiing excursion. The restaurant boasts spacious dining areas with convenient access and ample restroom facilities.
Surprisingly excellent food and atmosphere. I say surprising because it's not often you find restaurants at elevation which check both the marks of good culinary skill and reasonable prices. One example of a restaurant that fails both marks is the one at Jungfraujoch. Conversely, Jenneralm has excellent food, fresh, very generous portions, and also great service. Grilled salmon trout was very fresh with great crisp skin. Their teacup is larger than some miserly restaurants' teapot! Apple strudel is better than many you find at sea level. Wish I could be back again if my travels took me to Berchtesgaden!

Very touristic, as can be expected from a restaurant next to a cable car station, but the Brotzeitteller I had was surprisingly authentic and tasty. The building itself is super-ugly; the view from the terrace is great if one stands next to the railing, but quite limited while sitting at a table.

That non alcoholic wheat beer … when you arrive at the top is priceless and tastes amazing 😉 friendly service, portions are very generously, maybe a bit too much even after a a few hours hike. Great views up here, prepare for many people (if the sun is out).

We had a good stop here after riding the Jennerbahn cable car up to Berg (Upper) Station on Jenner mountain. The restaurant is quite large with plenty indoor and outdoor seating. During our visit, we enjoyed an apple strudel with whipped cream, glass of buttermilk and a coffee. Everything tasted just fine, prices a bit high but fair for the location and service was very pleasant.

Offers splendid views to alpine panorama! Luckily during our visit weather was good and there was less crowd! Food was delicious. We had a great time with breathtaking views!

Service was good considering how busy it was, order came soon. Prices relatively the same as other similar places. Daily soup was delicious, schnitzel as expected and Kaiserschmarren sweet ( as any desert). Terrace provides nice views of the mountains- accessible even if you‘re just passing by. Extra credit to the waitress who reminded us that the cable car closes at 16:00 if we don‘t want to miss it.

Great spot to relax in between a hike or skiing. The lift / dining area is very large and has stairs, ramp, and escalator to access the dining area. It also has a large bathroom area. The food was very good and the service was very fast and kind. We had food outside and got to enjoy the amazing views. If you’re lucky the reclining chairs will be available for you to enjoy a nap and beverage in between admiring the beautiful landscape. A must see!

Self service restaurant
Gaststätte Saletalm is a popular stop for hikers making the short walk from Koenigsee to Obersee. It offers a self-service restaurant with a nice beer garden, making it an ideal spot to relax after hiking around the Obersee. The place is known for its cold beer and tasty cakes, and it's also a great spot to try some traditional Weisswurst.
The cafe has menu for adults and children. The portions are medium - size and there is good beer on tap. Soups, main courses and desserts.

Self-service restaurant with good selection of dishes and cakes. Food is alright, nothing too special but extra convenient after a long hike and before you catch the boat.

Mostly offering some very standard and only OK quality food for quite high prices. Seems like a touristy place. Views and outside seating are nice though. If you like fish, rather order that because it's locally caught.

Can't miss this place if you're making the short walk from Koenigsee to Obersee. A self-service kind of restaurant, where you go round the back and order and collect what you want. So we didn't need to worry about waiting times and could grab a quick bite here. Cakes were pretty good.

Neither good, nor bad. Not much options as well. The smoked fish was fine, but the dumplings or noodle with tomato sauce was below average. Only good thing I can recommend is the fresh alpen milch from the nearby farm. Its like 2.30 eur per 300 ml, but most of us don't taste it in daily life, so 1 cup to taste the original, should be fine. Abundant indoor and outdoor seating available.

Eiskapelle, also known as Ice Chapel, is a must-visit spot in Sankt Bartholoma. The hike to the chapel is relatively easy and takes around 15 minutes. However, some visitors have reported that it may take longer than indicated on the sign. The trail offers stunning views and leads to a beautiful natural cave that provides an incredible experience once inside.
superb ice cave, very low point, the sun does not reach and the mountains createsd this masterpiece. the hike to the cave is average with great nature scenery.
David A — Google review
Very beautiful cave. Really amazing and worth it. Imo it might even be better than the lakes. How to find your way ? The first half is well marked and very easy to follow. Then you can follow the path marked by the 🇦🇹 . Before the final climb it can be a bit tricky to find your way but worst case scenario you loose 15 minutes (see picture to avoid our mistake, follow the arrow) How long is the trip ? We took 2h10 minutes in total (pictures, visiting the cave included). Around 1:40 of walking. How physical is the walk ? We are in our early 30s and it was easy for us. If you have already walked a bit in the mountains it should be totally fine for you. Better use walking shoes though. The end is a bit trickier and flip flops are definitely not going to work there. You do not need to be an expert at all though. Some people have mentioned a danger sign but it only applies in winter conditions.
Fabian — Google review
Beautiful, but rocks really do fall from the mountain near the cave. Stay safe!
Casandra R — Google review
One of the most beautiful natural places I've ever been to. This writeup is based on a early October visit - many of the other google reviews are over the top. As long as you're not over 60 and obese/disabled you can make it here. There were a few young kids at the cave when I went so you can make it too. Hiking shoes are not a must, walking/running shoes are fine as long as you just plan 1 step ahead in the scree field. Inside the cave is a incredible experience. If you visit too early in the year you can't go inside, September - October is the sweetspot. The cave branches into two paths and there are waterfalls at the back of both - just wear a raincoat for comfort as the ice is melting and water's constantly dripping down. My only regret is that I did not come with a better camera. What I did is not the safest but I will always recommend it from now on as it's a natural made highlight of Germany.
DDJ W — Google review
We did the hike on 8 Oct 2022. One might get a different experience depending on the season. Gorgeous views along the hike, but do not believe the sign that says 15 mins to the ice chapel (cave). From that sign, it took us about an hour to get to the cave itself. The first half of the trail from St Bartholomew's Church to the sign that says 15 minutes to the ice chapel is well marked and fairly well trodden. Proper hiking shoes are nevertheless recommended as leaves and stones may be slippery (it's not a paved road). However, the last hour or so leading to the ice chapel is totally unmarked, and for us, involved scrambling over rocks and boulders of varying sizes across an exposed gully. When we did the hike, there was no one else for miles around, and only the faint impression of footprints in the dust every now and then assured us that someone had been there before. The site felt ominously dangerous, and we didn't dare to make loud noises for fear of starting a rockfall. We saw another couple scrambling to the right of the gully along the scrub and vegetation towards the chapel, so whatever floats your boat. As we were reaching the cave, the dude from the aforementioned couple was just exiting. He spoke excitedly to me in German, which I failed to comprehend completely, but I concluded from his bright eyes and overall happiness that good things awaited. There was a small stream we needed to navigate to approach the chapel (thank you waterproof hiking shoes), and being inside the cave itself was a singularly surreal experience. Ice melt was constantly falling around us and it sounded like we were in the middle of a rainstorm. Our outer shell coat ended up soaked. As we exited the cave, we saw more people approaching. The path back again wasn't entirely straightforward, and we came across a dual language sign (which we totally missed on our initial approach) which warned of mortal danger ahead. To be honest, if we had seen the sign earlier, we might not have completed the hike. As it was though, it was a spectacular experience, and one went away with greater empathy for why trailblazing nature explorers do what they do. TLDR: first half well marked and relatively easy if uphill. Second half involves unmarked scrambling over rocks and navigation by sight only. Proper shoes and full mobility of all your joints necessary. Do not attempt in anything other than dry weather.

Good hiking experience to Eiskapelle. Hiking boots is a must! Adventure and fun begins when the trail stops halfway. Gotta find your own path to Eiskapelle. Do be careful too, as a rock the size of our head fell in front of us when we arrived at the glacier.

Obersee is a stunning and remote lake that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Visitors can take boat tours that last about an hour, with the option to explore the St. Bartholomae church and Obersee at the last stop. The lake has a catchment area of 38 square kilometers, an average depth of 29.60 meters, and a maximum depth of 51 meters.
Beautiful, but good luck finding a quiet spot. When you get off the boat, there are toilets on your left. Then walk for 5 minutes or so, you’ll have a restaurant where you can have a cold drink, an ice-cream or whatever you prefer. Then you should walk another 10 minutes or so (uneven stones but doable), and you’ll get to the lake.

Amazing experience! Boat rides to St Bartholomew are beautiful with knowledgeable guides. Plenty of shops, tourist shops, and restaurants. Lots of trails to walk and hike. St Bartholomew’s is pretty stroller friendly and so is the boat to Obersee. Some trails surrounding are not so easy to push a stroller and a baby carrier or rucksack would be better!

Absolutely a lovely hike, around 1 hour from Salet (not too difficult, possible with normal sport shoes in my case) The view is one of a kind, definitely worth the effort and time

Beautiful blue lake, you can reach it only buy taking the boat across konigsee lake and start hiking for almost an hour, be careful there are some rocky stairs that are usually wet so better be in a hiking shoes, you can swim in the lake on summer days, there is a free toilet and a cafe.
Hassan M — Google review
The journey typically starts with a boat trip on Königssee, which is an adventure in itself. Boats depart from the village of Schönau am Königssee and travel to Salet, the final stop on the lake. From Salet, a well-marked hiking trail leads to Obersee. This 1.5km hike (30 minutes) is relatively easy and suitable for families and casual hikers. At the far end of Obersee, you will find the Fischunkelalm, a traditional alpine pasture hut. It’s a great spot to rest, enjoy a snack, and take in the surrounding views. During the summer months, you can purchase fresh dairy products from the hut. From Obersee, a short and slightly more challenging hike leads to Röthbach Waterfall, Germany's highest waterfall. The waterfall plunges about 470 meters down a cliff, creating a stunning sight, especially after heavy rains or during snowmelt.
Y. T — Google review
An absolute visual feast! The stunning color and clarity of the water, combined with the beauty of the waterfall cascading down from the mountains, make it truly unforgettable. If you visit Königssee, be sure to take the boat tour that also stops here. From the drop-off point, it’s an easy walking path of about 15 minutes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful nature and charming views of grazing cows 🤩.
Pinar K — Google review
We got there quite early at around 10:00, the walk there was very accessible and relaxed, the path was made up of small pebbles. When we got to the lake we were stunned. The water was blue, turquoise and green, where as Konigsee was mostly green. The water although clear has fallen leaves and pieces of wood floating on it in the edges but it didn't bother us much. We went swimming, the water wasn't that cold it was very refreshing, I recommend you go early in the morning so there are less people.
Lani B — Google review
There are not enough words to describe this place, I'll just post pictures. It's a pity to come to Königssee and not take a boat to come see Obersee too. I also recommend to go around it (when the season allows it) and do the tour to the waterfalls. They say the tour takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, but I managed to do it in less than 1 hour with my husband, it's not a very difficult hiking tour.

Röthbach Waterfall is a stunning 470-meter cascade located in Berchtesgaden National Park. Accessible by boat trip and a rugged hike, it offers an impressive sight, especially early in the season before summer dries out the water. As Germany's highest waterfall, it provides a breathtaking view from the bottom, but climbing up requires some experience due to slippery rocks. The journey to the waterfall includes a wonderful electric boat ride and a hike with stunning views along the way.
Gorgeous place, totally worth the hike! The views are beautiful trough the whole route. We saw a wild goat on the way, which made it even better. And lots of cute cows, of course😀
Sasha — Google review
This is a very beautiful place to visit. It takes some hours to get here, but it's well worth it. We took the boat from Königsee and walked all the way to the waterfall. The walk here is also very nice with a lot of nature to appreciate. Even on a cloudy day, it was incredible, and I will definitely be coming back on a sunny day.
Alex I — Google review
After taking the delightful boat trip the length of the Konigsee to Salet, and walking the length of the Obersee, and a little further you will reach the foot of the waterfall. A little under an 2 hour round trip for a seasoned walker, with decent footwear on. Expect wet feet if not wearing mid or high gortex walking boots. Well worth the hike!
Anthony B — Google review
Wonderful electric boat ride and hike even thought it was pouring the whole day. The 1.5 hour it should take us to get there was a little unrealistic. It took us well over two hours since all the rocks on the steep paths were really slippery. But the view along the way are simply stunning. Obersee is incredibly beautiful.
Gino E — Google review
Waterfall is much better from the distance then after a hike. Even after the walk, you cannot get close enough to it, the slope is very extreme, impossible to climb there. And the best thing you can see from the end point of the walk is forest waterfalls (like on my picture). So I recommend to stay at Obersee edge and do not walk more.
Oleg K — Google review
Beautiful place. I did not go climb all the way in to the Waterfall because I am terrible at going back down, but even walking to the end of visible path rewards you with gorgeous views throughout. Worth the hike there!
Rachel N — Google review
Highest waterfall in Germany, absolutely gorgeous. Normally you can't get close to it, since there are no defined hiking pathways. However, it's possible to climb it, just at your own risk, preferably with/following someone.
Batman F — Google review
The tallest waterfall in the Germany, it’s a nice waterfall which would be better with a little bit more water. The view from bottom is nice, but it’s worth to go up-but be aware that the way up&down is a little bit complicated and might be only for hikers with a little bit of experience, due to the slippery rocks from the waterfall water.

Rabenwand, also known as Raven Wall, is a stunning viewpoint offering breathtaking views of Lake Königssee in Germany. The hike to reach Rabenwand takes about 40-50 minutes from the boat station and involves some rocky terrain. In winter, it's important to have crampons due to slippery conditions despite the presence of a rope for assistance. The trail may be challenging at times, but the reward of reaching this picturesque location is well worth it.
Very nice view over the lake. You are in a painting. Yes, it can be busy, but I wouldn't want to miss it.

Beautiful short hike up to Rabenwand with amazing views over the lake. Steep but quick climb, well worth it for the panorama at the end!

We walked down here from the middle station of the ski lift. It's a pleasant walk, and the view is wonderful. Down by the lake there are almost always crowds, but up here, luckily, only soup people visit.
Sandor V — Google review
this view point is a bit far and the trail is not friendly if you are wearing wrong type of shoes. But it’s definitely better than Malerwinkel. By the photos we might think it’s the same why to hike until here. But the view and the perspective of the Lake Königsee is completely different from here.

(Translated by Google) It is a very successful and authentic exhibition and conveys the life of Romy in her childhood and also the career of the actress up to her sudden death, when she left us all too soon. Above all, her childhood with many personal letters - depictions, clothing and other items that have been brought together here, as well as numerous incidents in Schönau and later in her role as Sissi, convey a strong picture of her: much is impressively documented and shown. Personal photos from private collections and excerpts from numerous films take the viewer back then to get a good impression. But Romy's difficult childhood too: born into a torn world as well as her time at boarding school and her personal family situations are all illuminated very clearly here. I think it is a very successful and worthwhile exhibition that deserves to be visited.

Mountain peak
Watzmann, the third-highest mountain in Germany, is a majestic peak offering various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, and exploring glaciers and ice fields. The history of Ramsau is deeply intertwined with the influence of Watzmann. Renowned mountaineer Johann Grill was the first to conquer the legendary east wall of Watzmann and was also the initial landlord of Watzmannhaus.
Very nice trip but still very difficult if You’re going to perform the whole way. Have to be prepared. Have to have climbing harness and climbing gear, specially if You going to Kleiner Watzmann.

Beautiful mountain and nice tour. Definitely not for beginners tho, it’s over 2600m high at the smallest of the three summits and I Still can’t wrap my head around the fact that a lot of people come here who have never climbed a mountain before and think it’s a Good idea to start with one like the mighty Watzmann. For advanced people very much to recommend, the Überschreitung is really an amazing tour with incredible views and cool climbing parts.

Restaurant Seehaus am Königssee, which translates to Lake House at Kings Lake, offers a delightful dining experience with its delicious traditional dishes and super tasty specialties. The Kaiserschmarrn with apple compote is a must-try, perfect for sharing. The fresh fish dishes are particularly outstanding, especially the whole fried fish served with potatoes. Despite some minor issues with certain dishes being too oily or salty, the overall quality of food is excellent.
Very welcoming service from Jordan, our server. Got the trout/seesaiblingsfilet with vegetables and was pretty happy at the variety of veggies (mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, carrots, and a side salad). Was way better than the photo suggested. Kaiserschmarrn (little pan fried dough patties with powdered sugar and applesauce) was an excellent way to finish the meal, but beware it’s a huge plate!

The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, the service was great too, even able to speak Czech and English. Of course the prices are high, I have ordered my dish which came about 28 euro, for me it is very expensive yet this is what you get in tourist area. The size of the dish wasn’t small at least and it was well cooked too. Overall, nice restaurant but expect the prices will be high.

Be careful about this restaurant, the server try to charge me almost 4 Euro more about the bill, I ordered 1 dish , I sausage and 1 gluwein,35.8 euro, he showed me 39.6euro on Pos machine,he didnt provide with bill!! (even have a post machine) only pay cash , so no evidence left!! he got busted and then be angry and try to lie and cover it, very bad attitude when found out. Very insincere ,be careful about this restaurant in tourist trap place

For large group bookings, the service staff attitude was extremely poor. We made a reservation well in advance by email, specifying our requirements, and were told that only cash payments would be accepted, otherwise the booking would be canceled. Despite the advance reservation, the restaurant did not hold any tables, resulting in our guests being unable to have lunch on time. After payment, they refused to provide an invoice. We do not recommend this restaurant for travel agency group bookings.

Food is incredibly delicious, almost every dishes we ordered was great. The fish (trouts) are very fresh and we loved it very much. Food are served pretty quick. The spaetzle was a little bit too oily and salty, but overall it was a great dish. The host was very friendly and they will help you if you ask for directions or the last bus leaving the town.

My family and I walked in around dinner time, a waiter took our drinks order and left before we could order our food. Another waiter came over and asked for our food order, the drinks came before we could finish and the waiter said with a dirty look ‘Why didn’t you mention you already ordered drinks?’. My family and I were extremely confused. When we asked for clarification the earlier waiter raised his voice and was extremely rude and insulting, Only then did we realize in this restaurant, you can only order with one waiter. We had never experienced such rude and horrible service in Europe, I highly discourage anyone especially tourists, from visiting this restaurant. The food was average and absolutely does not justify the rudeness. Truly a very disappointing experience.

LOVE that this place sells the entire fried fish, not a fillet at all but an actual whole fish. It was fried to perfection. So delicious with the potatoes. Wanted to have more than one fish because it was so good and fresh 🐠 Staff here is also friendly and the view here of the Bavarian alps 🏔️ is absolutely stunning.

I honestly don't get why this restaurant has such a low rating here. It is a really nice restaurant. - It is cozy and the decoration is pretty nice - Service was very good. Fast and friendly - I ordered a Schnitzel that was very tasty. With some really good fries on the side Don't get fooled by the ratings here.

They had an appealing sign outside, picturing a thick sandwich with a schnitzel and a lot of lettuce and tomato. But when we bought it, we got a wacky bun with no vegetables. They told us we could'nt sit outside, but had to take the food to go, there was nobody sitting outside, and it was raining very hard. When we asked about the vegetables they said "we dont make the marketing signs, we make the food". When i said that its false advertising, the person serving me physically intimidated me and followd me until we were outside.

Restaurant
Fischunkelalm is a traditional Austrian-Bavarian hut located at the southern end of Obersee, accessible only by foot after a scenic 1+ hour hike from the Salet pier. The trail to Fischunkelalm is unshaded, so it's advisable to bring sun protection and wear sturdy shoes. Once there, visitors can enjoy local delicacies such as bread with toppings, buttermilk, cheese, lemonade, and beer.
Friendly staff and great views. Fresh milk is €3-4 that they made straight from the cows that live there. Note that the cows are only there for the summer season so if you’re there too early in the spring or too late in the fall then they aren’t here. Dogs are welcome without a muzzle but please do be leashed as they can harm cows. First photo is the view of the hut from faraway about halfway through the hike. Second photo is the view from the hut. From the hut to the waterfall is about 30min. The path is uphill and can be strenuous, but generally it’s maintained. They also serve light food and snacks but I didn’t try them. They have toilets for free.

A bit of a walk through the mountain trail is required to get here, but it’s absolutely worth it. They offer fresh milk and delicious bread, and you can enjoy them right by the lake. Short hike to a lovely hut in the alpine mountains where you can find fresh milk or a cold beer. Water is crystal clear and very welcoming on a warm summers day. Be sure to bring cash with you as most places, including this one, do not take credit cards.

This alm is situated at the end of the hike along the Obersee. The hike was about 45 min long hike. We got the bread platter with an assortment of local cheeses. We also ordered milk and butter milk - both from the local cows. The apple juice in the picture was great too. But perhaps the best part of the breakfast here was the view of the Obersee. Felt like a reward for finishing the hike!
Sumeet D — Google review
It was quite tiring to reach this place but it was worth it. The view is stunning and very relaxing. We tried the bread with cheeses, a set of bread with speck, one glass of raw milk and one of buttermilk. All very nice and filling. A charge of energy to afford the whole way back to Salet. I strongly suggest planning to arrive by 9 am in summer because it is packed and you risk queueing for more than an hour to get your food, and 1.5 hours to get your boat back.
Davide M — Google review
If you came early, incredible scenery all around where you can't miss to take great pictures, but regarding the alpine hut, the dishes offered are minimalist and completely overpriced. 10 euros for 2 pieces of rather ordinary bread with so-called local ham... meh and the glass of milk that comes directly from the cow in the meadow... Sometimes I think we need to stop taking people for idiots. Advice: take your snack with you and enjoy the view without letting the local profiteer benefit.
Christian B — Google review
All in all a great place. The views are amazing with the Obersee on one side and the Alps all around. It is quite a walk to get there, but it's definitely worth it if only to get a fresh glass of milk. It can get quite busy on the road and in line to get your fresh milk or buttered bread unfortunately.

Located at an altitude of 937 meters in the Wimbachgries, Berggaststätte Wimbachschloss is a historic castle built in 1784, later used as a hunting lodge by King Max II and Prince Regent Luitpold. Today, it operates as a mountain restaurant where hikers can refuel after a 1.5-hour trek from the guesthouse. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere with amenities such as a tile stove for drying clothes.
In my last 3 weeks in Europe, this is one of the best place I've eaten. The friendly atmosphere and amazing food. We had the pork knuckle and deer gaulash with a Bavarian dessert, kaiser something. The food was wow. The pork knuckle was crispy yet tender and juicy. The highlight would be the friendly Inn keeper Dennis and his wife. The accommodation is very clean and cosy as well. It is also next to one of the trail of you want to hike the national park.

Owner was so kind and passionate, and provided excellent service. Prices are super affordable and they offer vegan options as well. Must go!
