Restaurant
Cafe-Restaurant Zauner is a historic establishment in Bad Ischl, dating back to 1832. It's a popular spot for coffee and cake enthusiasts, offering a wide array of delicious treats including the famous Zaunerstollen with dark chocolate and Chocolate-covered chestnut hearts that are accidentally vegan. While they don't currently offer plant-based milk options for their coffee, the restaurant provides an exceptional dining experience with efficient service and English-speaking staff who add humor to their explanations of the dishes.
An Austrian style place that offers meals but the specialty is actually the desserts. Large selection of cakes and chocolates. A bit hard to choose...

A Hidden Gem by the River – Highly Recommended! An excellent location paired with exceptional service and delicious food made for an unforgettable dining experience. The ambiance was elevated by the gentle river flowing beside the outdoor seating area, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Every aspect, from the setting to the service, was top-notch. I would absolutely love to return again!
Deepak G — Google review
An elegant restaurant & cafe with beautiful outdoor and indoor seating. There’s a wide variety of food, desserts, and drinks, and the service was excellent.
Hazem K — Google review
A beautiful place with a riverside terrace. We had already been to Café Zauner eight years ago, but to the other one in the city center. As it was then a wonderful experience, we absolutely had to try this one. We had coffee, beer and cakes, of course, but the establishment also offers classic dishes, as it's also a restaurant. The prices were a little high, as the quality was excellent, but still not at the same level than Café Demel or Café Central in Vienna. Yet it was the Konditorei of choice for the Austrian emperors in the 19th and 20th century. In short, we had a great time and highly recommend this place for the quality of its cakes, ice creams, coffee, and, of course, its splendid decor (take a look at the photos).
Dan M — Google review
Absolutely would recommend for dinner! We tried a few dishes, lion rabbit, fish, and salad, and each one was delicious. The prices are great for the quality, and every dish was exceptional with a deep taste. The Austrian-style service, but for me it’s perfectly fine, and honestly, it's not a thing when the food is this good.
Sviatoslav P — Google review
I had heard so many good things and received a lot of recommendations about this café, but I was really disappointed. I waited 40 minutes for their famous strudel, only for the waiter to come back and tell me, “I forgot to mention — we’re out of it today.” It completely ruined the experience for me. Such odd and careless service left me frustrated, and I simply decided to leave.
Karam S — Google review
The drinks we ordered weren't tasty. But beautiful view
מיכל א — Google review
Really amazing place for coffee, nice view and top quality desserts. Only one thing was rly odd - desserts were full of wasps and nobody from stuff take them out from them. I've seen a cake which was given to customer with wasp on it. That's disgusting.

Cake shop
When in Bad Ischl, a visit to Konditorei Zauner is a must. This charming pastry shop, located conveniently on the main road near the train station, holds historical significance as a k.u.k. confectionary shop from the Habsburg monarchy era. The elegant Viennese-style cafe offers prompt and pleasant service with English spoken, and their delicious cakes are not to be missed.
Such a beautiful place with very friendly staff and very tasty cookies. We finally managed to eat the real Ischler. We're hoping back tomorrow to buy more as it was so delicious. Thank you guys for your hard work as the place was so crowded. They must be inhumanly popular.
Shabba U — Google review
If you ever find yourself in Bad Ischl, you must stop by Konditorei Zauner for dessert. 🍰 The pastries are as beautiful as they are delicious — delicate layers, rich flavors, and the freshest berries you can imagine. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality, making it an indulgence that feels as good for your taste buds as it does for your wallet. Sitting here feels like stepping into a piece of history (they’ve been perfecting their craft since 1832!) while enjoying pure sweetness. Absolute heaven for dessert lovers!
Hermann L — Google review
A lovely spot! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed coffee break or a sweet treat. Their pastries are fresh and delicious, and the coffee is rich and smooth. The staff are friendly and make you feel at home. A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the charm of Bad Ischl!
Sara — Google review
I had some very fond memories of the place and finally managed to visit after many years since my last visit and was excited. The place was packed full with people. Waiters struggled and we waited a long time for the orders to come. One of the older waiters was a bit on the rude side initially pushing customers out of his way when we came in. Later he complained about things (incl. some new coworker) in front of us and I even heard him swear in front of the neighboring table. Total way to ruin the experience. Whatever problems happen behind the scenes, the customer should not be the one hearing about them. As for the interior, it's a bit on the dates side. A place like that can get away with that but I never felt so uncomfortable there as I did this time. The cakes are still top notch and I'd give it 5 stars. We had some of them packed for take away which wasn't done very nicely. Instead of putting them into a sold cardboard box they where just wrapped in some paper making everything stick. When we unpacked it just a little later bits and pieces just came off those nice looking cakes and really ruined it for me. I'm sorry, but I don't see myself ever coming back with service this dreadful.
Roman G — Google review
One of the best patisseries I've visited. They say it's the best in Austria. The place is beautiful and inviting, nicely decorated with lots of space to sit. They have a large selection of cakes. We ordered coffee and the famous Zsuner's Kaiser cake. The coffee was great, the cake was drlicious, chocolate with nuts and marzipan and maybe other things. I enjoyed it very much. Before we left, we bought more cakes to take with us. Highly recommended.
Tovi D — Google review
The place itself is beautiful! In summer, the waterfront is beautiful! Desserts and sandwiches look amazing! Inside the cafe it looks amazing too! Of the obvious disadvantages: the tables are as close to each other as possible, some guests smoke - it's unpleasant, the waiters are not very friendly (apparently because tourists are not regular visitors!).
Maria G — Google review
A stop here is a must when visiting Bad Ischl. Although a table with a street view is preferable, if not available, step inside to the large dinning room in the back. Service is prompt, pleasant, English is spoken. The cakes are absolutely delicious. Aperol spritz is nice and strong. The bathrooms are stunning, all the metal fittings are gold colored, including on the toilet. Credit cards accepted.

This tourist information centre is very unique as it has a very big room with lots of chess tables. Also good information provided by staff. Villa
Kaiservilla, located in Bad Ischl, has been an elegant and tranquil palace for over 700 years. It is now a museum showcasing imperial artifacts and fine art. The villa was a wedding gift to Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth from Bavaria, known as Sissi.
A beautiful place to visit. You pay entrance fee, but you can buy only for the park separately, or with the villa too. We just walked around the park and didn't go inside and it was totally worth it. Beautifully maintained park, I'd say probably even wheel chair accessible. Beautiful in autumn!
Krisztina S — Google review
Kaiservilla exceeded all of my expectations. The tour was absolutely captivating — walking through the rooms and feeling the atmosphere of that era was like stepping back in time. It’s beautifully preserved and offers such a unique glimpse into imperial life. A delightful surprise was the Erwin Wurm exhibit on the grounds — unexpected, modern, and incredibly thought-provoking. The contrast between contemporary art and historical surroundings made the experience even more special. A special mention must go to the lovely lady working at the café. She was so kind and thoughtful, even offering to remake my tea so I could enjoy a fresh cup to go after the tour — such a simple gesture that made a big difference. While the guided tours are in German, the audio guide was excellent. I felt I received all the information I needed and could truly immerse myself in the stories and history. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the region — a perfect blend of culture, art, and genuine hospitality.

I was expecting more to see, but the guide was perfect. What is really worth to see ist the garden and the exhibition of Ernest Wurm.

Loved the gardens with the art installations- and interesting village with British phone boxes and beautiful click!

The guided trip around villa lasts 45 minutes. It is in German but you are given headphones for the English narration. We went because we have seen the Empress series on Netflix. The gardens are pleasant but hilly.
Brian S — Google review
Beautiful place to visit, another choice from Hallstatt and gosau
Peter P — Google review
The Villa itself is beautiful but inside you can't make photos what is sad for tourists. The tour guide only speak German, but we got papers in our language so we can understand something but he spoke so much an we couldn't understand a thing of it. I really liked every room of the castle but because of the big crowd it was hard to see things, rhe only way was to stay behind and walk almost by yourself. But for the experience to German speaking people is worth it.

The Kongress & Theaterhaus in Bad Ischl, Austria, is a notable conference center with a rich history. Constructed between 1873 and 1875 as the Kurhaus, this impressive building now hosts various events and gatherings. It also houses the Lehar Villa, which was once Franz Lehar's estate and currently serves as a small museum. Another architectural gem in the area is the historic post office building from 1895.
A very beautiful old palace. I was there for a seminar, a beautiful place, large and spacious windows, the mountain is visible.

Sabine R — Google review
Pretty flowers in the gardens around the congress center. The conference rooms are adaptable but not always functional - we couldn't reach electricity plugs, for instance, so brought our own extension cords to use through each day. Basic tables and chairs, not exactly comfortable but practical at least. A great addition would be to have hot water available for making tea, and ideally even coffee in the mornings.

Attended a dance competition here. A great venue and nice cafe next door. Watch out for speed cameras in the town, they are hidden and ruthless!!

The Katrin Seilbahn Bad Ischl offers a breathtaking gondola ride with panoramic views of alpine lakes and peaks. The historic cable car, dating back to the 1950s, takes visitors on a 15-minute journey to an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level, providing stunning vistas of the surrounding area. At the top, there are opportunities for hiking in the nature reserve and skiing during winter.
Old but very charming cable car at the outskirts of Bad Ischl. No long lines to get on and the ride up the steep mountainside is great. The restaurant at the top is very good and the views are breathtaking. The hike up to Katrin is a bit more than moderate, so proceed with caution if you are not that fit.
Emanuel K — Google review
When visiting the town of Bad Ischl in Austria, we did not miss this site either. The ascent by cable car to a height of 1640 meters is continuous with amazing views. At the top there are cozy corners to sit, there are restaurants and walking trails for walkers and those who are not. It is highly recommended not to miss it. We were in May 2025, perfect weather for hiking in a couple. For walkers, you can go up and down on foot, which is a bit challenging. When you buy a ticket at the entrance, ask for a daily parking ticket for the car to put above the steering wheel. There are plenty of parking spaces.
חיים ג — Google review
Very authentic cable car with various hiking trails on the top + terrace cafe with national cuisine. We tried the blue hiking trail - the shortest way up to the cross and it was amazing. We found the metal box with journal inside where everyone can leave a note - it was very touchy. The day was sunny and we enjoyed kaiserschmarrn and local beer on the terrace. Parking is free if you buy tickets up and down. Otherwise 5€ per day.
Mariya N — Google review
We climbed for 10 minutes. The view was amazing. We did a short part of the walking route. Worth every moment. There is a place at the top for a beer and a snack. There are clean toilets. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Sigalit G — Google review
A charming red cable car will take you to the mountain peak in about 30 minutes. The individual cable cars seats four persons and is pretty stable even in slightly windy conditions. The view on the way up is pretty nice and from the top is even more spectacular.
Vedran — Google review
What a great experience! This is a retro cable car 🚡 but taken very good care of, and the experience is therefore so good. I recommend planning the trip together with the free of charge yodel workshop that takes place on the top 😄
Agata R — Google review
Don’t forget to pay after you park. There are two electric vehicle spots if you have an electric vehicle. Purchase your round trip ticket for the cable car and keep it with you. You’ll need to scan it each time for entry. It’s a 15 minute ride each way by cable car to Katrin. The cable car seats 4 at a time. There’s a platform with great views at the top and restaurant. If you hike down the platform, you’ll see the information cabin. Restrooms are at the bottom and top. It’s 1400 meters above sea level, with panoramic view of Salzkammergut. Which is an Austrian region of lakes and alpine on the northern edge of the Alps. We got lucky with the weather while we were at the top. Once we began to descend, it started raining. Make sure you check the forecast and webcams before you go. There’s not much to do up here but to admire the views and breathe the great open air.

Grill haus& Pizzeria& Babylon restaurant is a hidden gem in Bad Ischl, perfect for those looking for halal options near Hallstatt. The friendly and courteous staff, including Mustafa, ensure a warm welcome and excellent service. The menu features perfectly grilled and juicy dishes like chicken, wings, kebabs, pizza with unique flavors, and delicious Arabic meals made with love. Despite not speaking the local language well, visitors are impressed by the attentive service and well-seasoned food.
I'm happy that i decided to visit this restaurant.. my experience was really goood , very welcoming service and the atmosphere was beautiful after the Christmas celebration.. mmm the foood was really delicious and we did try 2 different dishes and both were amazing.. the pizza is really good , some new taste for me personally but I love it and the chicken meal was amazing as well.. i recommend it

We were craving kebab. This place looked super authentic, but food was decent kebab shop standard. For the price, food + seating, this was a little above what we expected to pay. Meats were all freshly grilled and tasted great, but not worth the price. It has a lot of potential to be a great Turkish inspired kebab shop, but under delivers.
Michelle S — Google review
We found this by chance when driving back from Halstatt as couldn't find anything halal there. We stopped in Bad Ischl by chance and searched halal nearby and found this very close to where we parked. Excellent service and food. Mustafa and others were so courteous and friendly. They took their time but grill chicken, wings, kebabs were all perfectly grilled and juicy. Portions are generous and service topnotch. Price is also very reasonable. Highly recommended.

The food is really tasty, generous portions and the staff is next level welcoming, warm and nice. I had lentils soup and a rice with saffron ( both were delicious). It's also open a little later than the other restaurant, it's fast and really affordable and decent prices. ( Vegetarian friendly)

Great food, great service and a great place altogether. I wish I wasn't in such a hurry because it feels like you're eating at a friend's place. The prices are also nothing to complain about. All in all, a great experience in such a short time. Special thanks to Pinki & the Brain!

Our waiter was very rude. We only ordered drinks but when they arrived the waiter slammed one drink onto the table so hard there was water all over the table. There were no apologies nor did the waiter clean it up. When we wanted to pay they assumed we didnt have any way of paying because we only ordered drinks, they said and i quote „ You have no money?”. Do not recommend!
Kateřina V — Google review
I rarely post a bad review. We showed up with young kids, waited patiently and politely a good 10 minutes standing in the rain and were purposefully ignored by every waiter that passed us. Meanwhile we saw people simply walking in and sitting down where they wanted. Finally we stopped a waiter to ask, were told to go to another waiter, who told us they were full (of course, everybody had sat down wherever by then). Great for you that all the tables are full and you are busy, but have the decency to welcome waiting guests and politely tell them there is no place free. That's not asking much.
Celine B — Google review
This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had, not only in Austria but in all my travels. From the very beginning, we felt disrespected and discriminated against. Despite the restaurant not being busy, no waiter offered to help us. When we asked to sit at an empty table, the waiter arrogantly told us we could not sit there and instead led us to another table, where the menus were thrown at us with rudeness. Shortly after, we saw Austrian guests walk in and sit freely wherever they wanted without being questioned. The difference in treatment was obvious and deeply upsetting. When it came time to order, we were told to put away our water bottles — which were unopened — and even after we complied, the waiter repeatedly shouted at us, “This is a restaurant! Put that away!” Meanwhile, Austrian customers at the next table had outside bottles on display with no issue at all. This double standard made the racial discrimination clear. At that point, we felt so uncomfortable that we wanted to leave, but the manager came out and threatened us, saying that since we had already ordered, it would be “against the law” to leave, and even suggested they would call the police. We had not even been served any food yet! This experience ruined what had otherwise been a wonderful trip where we had been treated with kindness and respect everywhere else in Austria. Unfortunately, this restaurant seems to employ people with arrogance, zero sense of hospitality, and, most disturbingly, discriminatory behavior. I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

We had to come back twice and try all the food. Great atmosphere, great wait table team and fantastic Austrian Homemade food. Great price. Make sure you book a table, walk ins are hit and miss.

We had lunch here in the outside restaurant in a warm day. The waiters, all of them, were rude and dismissive. We nearly left because of that. But, the beer was great as they cool the stein and the food was really good too.
Peter A — Google review
Located in the very center of Bad Ischl, this place can get packed, but it is easier to find a free table then it is in some other nearby restaurants. The menu is typically meat based, the staff typically rushed, the prices average (we payed around 25 euros per person, including drinks), the food is nice but nothing special - all in all a god option for lunch or dinner.

The cuisine at Pizzeria Napoli is delectable, although it is advisable to make a reservation in advance or be prepared for a potential 30-minute wait. The amiable waitress hails from Hungary and the waiter readily assists with English-speaking customers. The fare consists of mouthwatering dishes such as pizza and their specialty, speck salad. Overall, Pizzeria Napoli offers an enjoyable dining experience with its scrumptious food and accommodating service.
Food is delicious, but you'd better to book a table or you can wait cca. 30 min for a table. The waitress is very kind, she is from Hungary.

Wanted to get some pizza for me and my cat. She was quite hungry, so I was looking forward to a quick eating, especially since we were guests at the hotel right across the street. The guy on the phone was nice, taking our order. Then however, something horrible happened. He told us, that we would have to wait for more than an hour for the two little pizzies we ordered! Over an hour for two little pizzies? Is he going to go shopping for ingredients or what? At this point, I was getting too hangry, so I had to cancel the order, regrettably. Upon hearing this, The restaurant owner even sounded a bit relieved, so there is that... TL:DR : Cat wanted pizza la reine and got disappointment on a plastic platter. Guy was nice though. 3/5 would do again :7

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, it was an absolute disappointment... we had to wait a long time for the drinks. Waiting time for the food then another hour. Pizza arugula pretty tasteless, but still acceptable. Spaghetti arrabiata massively spicy, pasta overcooked. Worst of all, however, was the mixed salad - drowned in a completely disgusting ready-made sauce from the bottle. Dishes were not cleared away. The waitress was completely overwhelmed, so we ended up paying at the counter, otherwise we would probably have sat outside in the (temporarily) cold for another hour. Unfortunately we cannot recommend it at all.

Landgasthof zur Nocken Toni is a restaurant that offers excellent cuisine, boasting fresh and flavorful fish dishes. The quality of their food is top-notch, and the service provided by the staff is exceptional, characterized by warm hospitality. The ambience of the restaurant adds to the overall dining experience, with an Austrian vibe that creates a pleasant atmosphere. While prices may be slightly higher than expected, they remain within reasonable limits.

We really wanted to love this place as it’s around the corner from where we live. Would have been grand to have take our guests there! But… the food did not impress while the prices did. Regrettably not tempted to go back.

I was a Teaching Assistant in Bad Ischl during 2015-2016. As an activity, we reviewed restaurants, and put them online. This is one such review which is taken from a number of students in a class. Below is all student review. The salmon and the chocolate mousse are both quite delicious. The service is friendly and nice. The atmosphere is very beautiful as well. The last time I was there, I had the schnitzel. The crust had a nice crunch. In the summer you can sit outside in the sun. Every meal was very delicious, and I enjoy the traditional Austrian dishes. The place is very clean and I didn’t wait too long for my food. The restaurant got its name because many years ago, the owner was called Antonia Sams, and she loved nocken. Nocken is a special type of food from Austria. It’s a small ball of flour fried in fat that you eat with sauerkraut. The story is in the menu, so check it out for more information when you go! As for my personal opinion, I feel the same as my students. The one thing I would add is that the walk to the restaurant is the best part, as it goes along the Ischl River.

The MUSEUM FAHRZEUG-TECHNIK-LUFTFAHRT is a fascinating private museum near Salzburg that showcases an impressive collection of classic cars, military vehicles, fire brigade equipment, and motorcycles. It's a great place to spend time on a rainy day, offering visitors the chance to admire these unique exhibits in one hall.
Nice collection of vehicles and aircraft from different time periods. A recommended visit if you were passing by.
Alex T — Google review
Very nice museum. However, the outside on the back is under construction, and they have just lumped almost all the aircraft together on one side, so many aircrafts are obscured by the other ones.

Very nice and special museum. Recommended.
Z. G — Google review
The museum has some good items on display like the Ford GT and Alfa Romeo Montréal. Also some firetruck, military vehicles, bikes, and even planes. Inside the museum is okay, but it's just a barn. Such a shame that the aircrafts outside are in a bad shape and sitting there to rot away. We had to pay €12 pp. Which I think it's a little too much for this museum. We Finnished it in less then 15 minutes.
Kevin V — Google review
Small looks like private museum. It was sad not to see any visitors as they really have good stuff to show. Aircraft outside are not good maintained and it is a little bit sad as they have very good assets to show.

Leharvilla is a museum located in Bad Ischl, Austria, which was once the home of the renowned Hungarian composer Ferenc Lehar. The villa preserves its original furnishings and offers visitors a glimpse into the life of the composer. Guests can explore the personal belongings and treasures of a bygone era, all kept intact as they were during Lehar's time.
Muzeum dedicated to the composer of my favorite operetta Merry Widow. It has well preserved antique furniture that is for sure worth a visit and also the story told by the lovely guide lady is also very interesting! If you are Lehár music fan or just history fan, then surely plan a visit. BUT! Bring cash, as they do not accept cards.
František B — Google review
My visit to the Lehar villa was one of the greatest moments of my life. I was able to play 'You are my hearts delight' on the Steinway which Richard Tauber gave to Lehar as a present for writing the song for his part in The Land of Smiles. I also played the Merry Widow Waltz and to play the music of Lehar on his own piano in his own house was a dream come true.

Siriuskogl, also known as Hundskogl peak, is a 1,965-ft. hill located near Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut region. The hill features an 1885 observation tower and a terrace restaurant offering stunning views of the spa town. Originally named Hundskogel, it was later renamed after Sirius, the main star of the constellation Great Dog.

Tip: You really really have to order a table up front or you’ll regret it. Nice view good food what more does one want? Well there’s a surprising twist later We went up there with your Kids from Siedlungs gasse and they where quite tired already but the Erlebniss pfad (Adventure path) gave them enough energy to go up the partly very steep gravely path (flip flops not advised). After ~15min we where rewarded with a beautiful view, a glorious restaurant and a wonderfully designed small playground. We arrived ~18:45 and got a seating with wonderful view. I won’t go into details and just say you need a reservation up front or you’ll always get reserved last even with small children. Personally, I found this very ignorant as well as the expectation that very one look into they’re facebooksite online to know this before you go for a small walk. You won’t believe it took so long even few Guests that we didn’t even get desserts. Closing time 21:00. OMG! It’s a beautiful spot and good food but be sure you to have a reservation or you have a extremely bad service by design. While the place easily could be 5 star our customer journey was definitely a 1 star experience.

Located in Bad Ischl, Restaurant Weinhaus Attwenger is one of the oldest establishments in the area, dating back to 1430-1440. Originally built as a tax collection point for salt sales, it has now transformed into a renowned dining destination. The restaurant offers modern rooms with amenities such as HD flat-screen TVs and minibars. Guests can enjoy Austrian cuisine and specialties like Alt-Wiener Backfleisch, complemented by excellent service from attentive staff members Gabriel and Naomi.
Had a lovely dinner here while visiting Austria, perhaps my favorite meal of my trip. The wine was delicious too. The waiter was amazing, great service even though it was very busy. I highly recommend if you are in the area! Very cozy atmosphere. Also they have information on dietary allergies/restrictions for each dish.

Atmosphere was wonderful. It was a nice place to stop by for some wine and cheese. Not many places I know of have orange wines. They also have this lovely (chutney) honey that goes well with the cheese. Loved it.

Terrific food in a cozy setting, for Vegans too! I had an asparagus soup and the pasta caponata, both tasted very fresh, full of flavors and at a generous portion. The veggies in the pasta were very varied and all were cooked perfectly. Friendly service too with a clear English menu.

Delicious lunch on Easter Sunday. Fast and nice service, the terrasse is also in partially in the shadow which is good on sunny days. Dog friendly. A bit outside of the city center which reduce the amount of people walking by and makes the place much calmer.

One of the best meals I have had in Austria. I ordered the Alt-Wiener Backfleisch. The flavor combination between the meat, mustard, radish, potatoes, and sweet sauce, made a symphony in my mouth. Of course with a good beer. Besides the good service of the waiters, Gabriel and Naomi are unbeatable. They are very kind and always taking good care of their clients. If you come to Bad Ilsch this restaurant is a must.

this place become so bad... This used to be for us a #1 place to eat in Bad Ischl since circa 2005. I had my first Salczburger Nockerl here (huge local desert). But this place changes so much since then. The great chef moved out in 2011 (as I’ve been told) and since then two owners exchanged. This years experience been simply average, boring. Slow service, poor winelist. And the food so unimpresive. Schnitzel from hard to chew cut. Steak untasty. Sides like 20 years back (sorry for low quality of night pictures). So just another unimpresive, average restaurant. Not planning a repeat visit anytime soon.

The hotel modern but traditional! Absolutely beautiful spa area. We came here 15 years ago and have been longing back since, we finally made it and it's even better than we remember. I cannot understand people leaving poor reviews. The breakfast is great, lots of fresh delicious things to choose from. We loved seeing the staff have some after the guests were finished, and you can see they are trying not to waste how everything is put out and made fresh in small batches. One of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. The restaurant: Chefs kiss amazing!! So delicious!!! Everything is so fresh homemade, beautiful meals!!! 🤤 ❤️

Big disappointment! Even one Star is extra but I had to choose at least one Star to write this comment. Waste of money, the receptionist was too unfriendly and disrespectful. She didn't care at all about the first impression and she doesn't know anything about the guest service. She had told us that you had to pay extra if you want somebody helps you to carry your luggage into your room. This hotel doesn't offer the standard customer service that a four star hotel is supposed to offer.

We stayed two nights in the lovely hotel which is located in the centre of town. It’s convenient to get around town. We were warmly received by the reception and rooms were accorded promptly. We had dinner in the restaurant which offered 10% off our food bill for hotel guests. We had asparagus soup, salmon and fried chicken. We enjoyed the delicious food and wines served. The server was very attentive and gave good recommendations. Breakfast buffet is a healthy and sumptuous spread. Love the casual greenhouse-like dining environment. Would love to come back again

The owner or whoever that answer to our reviews is absolutely a hypocrite person and a big liar. We've told to the receptionist with brown hair whom was properly the owner's daughter that we are unsatisfied that she didn't care at all! She didn't say anything about the luggage trolley. I had asked her and she had responded to me sooooo rude! We have stayed in different four stars hotels in Salzkammergut and all other hotels did put all of our bags and suitcases in our room without we even ask them to do so. They've offered us a normal four star hotel's service! The receptionist who was the owner's hotel was the only rudest receptionist that I've ever seen in my life.

In this place we were treated very poorly. Especially for the price. We waited almost a whole hour for some pancakes that weren’t even that good. The waiter wasn’t exactly pleasant either. The service was terrible. When we arrived, the server clearly judged us based off of how we were dressed. We eventually got seated, it took about 10 minutes for him to get us the menu while the ladies that got here after us already got their food. We had to wait for ages to get the food, which was overall good but the portions were so small for how much we payed.

Awesome place!! When I go to Badishel every time I have to stay in this place. Very friendly staff and treat you with love. I enjoy their clean and spacious rooms. They take care of the details. I love the rooms with the river view especially in the morning with a cup of coffee for coffee lovers. The city also is so beautiful and the hotel is settled in a good place where you can reach any place you need. Don't hesitate to stay in here and enjoy your coffee and breakfast morning. Oh, one more thing the check-in and out is fast and easy. Enjoy ya'all.

Spent a day here. Had a great pleasure and had a relaxing night. The top is the Spa, with all the fancy sauna setup. The hotel is in a great location for your tour to St.Wolfagng, Hallstatt and Gosau. The breakfast options and qualities are great.

For me, the best bit of this hotel was the spa. The pool, steam room and sauna were superb and exactly what was needed after a long day hiking in the mountains. I also loved having breakfast on the terrace at the front of the hotel. The breakfast choice was extensive and would suit any preferences. I have only one small negative comment; the staff seem a bit over-trained and they could be a bit more friendly / human. That is just my personal taste and it wouldn't stop me returning to the hotel. Overall; Superb.

Delightful stay. Very nice room. Good beds. Good WiFi. Nice spa area. Good breakfast. I wish they had pancakes :). Did not try the restaurants. Delicious food, wonderful staff, very pleasant experience. We only had 30 euros in cash and ate plenty! We also came with a dog and they gave a bowl of water and a biscuit. 10/10 place to stop by for lunch.

Six of us eat there last week. It was not the first time. If you want good pub food and don't want to leave feeling hungry, this is the place to come. The food is very well cooked using good ingredients. The portions are large but it is produced with care and full of flavour. We all chose the rump steak. The meat was tasty and tender. Everyone's was cooked to the right degree.. The service was friendly and efficient. Will not leave it so long before returning again.

Good quality food, with huge quantities! One member of our group commented that the steak was the best he had ever had. I had the Hirsch medallions with blue cheese topping and they were deliciously juicy and tender. Be prepared to take away the remains of your meal for the following day!

Youth hostel Bad Ischl

Hostel
Youth Hostel Bad Ischl is a modest accommodation offering a complimentary breakfast buffet, along with recreational amenities such as a game room and TV lounge. Situated in Bad Ischl, it provides free WiFi in public areas and features a furnished terrace and games room with table tennis and table football. The hostel's convenient location, just 500 meters from the train and bus station, makes it easily accessible for travelers.
The vegetarian food was tasty (especially for a youth hostel), the chef was friendly, and he tried to make the guests happy. He cooked some special food for the kids. The stuff was very friendly and the rooms and beds were clean. Some mattresses could be changed as some were old and not supportive anymore. The hostel is in the city centre and close to the train station, which is perfect. The rooms are quiet and near the river. We slept with open windows and had a great night. All in all: Good value for the price!
L S — Google review
Breakfast is normal, Very basic hostel for overnight stay, rooms are too small and Definitely not for enjoyment . Surrounding area is nice and the staff are very friendly and respectful.
Rastgo S — Google review
The location is good, also the breakfast was nice. The older rooms were cramped and the bathroom tiny with bad ventilation. But if you only need to sleep there, it's OK. The newer rooms are more spacious. Two keys per room are very practical. The staff is only available between certain hours which can be inconvenient, if you're on a schedule. Some receptionists were helpful, others quite rude.
Dana P — Google review
This hostel is 500 mtrs away from the train and bus station, so it is easily walkable. Rooms are not maintained, our room's door was not having a latch and water was leaking from the bathroom to the living room while bathing. Beds were cosy and comfortable. Only two electric points were provided and that too in an uncomfortable place. So very inconvenient. Even the lamps placed near the beds were not comfortable. Breakfast was great. Lots of varieties were served. Overall nice stay except some points for rooms.

the food is literal poison, if you want to lose weight come here honestly. There was dead bugs under a friends bed, stains on the mattress and we were given cardboard box beds. Absolutely fab, couldn’t recommend more. Actually convinced I’ve got some sort of poising from it, literally come here for a rapid weight loss plan it’s less expensive than weight watchers because they’re absolute robbers. Don’t come if you want to eat
PaHrIc S — Google review
The hotel doesn't look good, much less good compared to the pictures. The only good thing about it is the location. Not a place for someone who wants to stay a week or something. The breakfast hasn't got a big diversity and the staff just wants you to leave when the time is over. The bunk beds also feel like they are about to clap in. Still three stars because they don't call it a hotel but a hostel.
Maarten T — Google review
The hostel is quite nice with very friendly staff. Do expect bunk beds here.Finding it might be sometime tricky as the road to hostel is quite small and hidden if you are coming up by car. You might miss the turn for the first time. There is bridge walkable from hostel which is also good. Very cheap rates.

Taverna Corfu Bad Ischl offers delectable cuisine and a warm, welcoming staff. The salmon pasta, beans, and rice are all incredibly flavorful. It's important to note that this establishment only accepts cash payments. With multiple visits under one's belt, it is evident that the food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced. The friendly staff make it easy to find a table and provide efficient service.
Amazing food and amazing time with a couple of friends. Staff is great 👍

Arrived just after 8pm on a warm July evening and with the majority of their outside tables occupied I was looking forward to my evening. After standing by the entrance for a few minutes, and being ignored by the staff, I was finally approached by a waitress who didn't bother with any pleasantries, or apologies for keeping me waiting, she just said we "We are closed". Wow. How not to run a business. As we left, looking at the plates and faces of those that were dining, I feel we dodged a bullet. My 1 star service and atmosphere marks are generous. As I didn't get to try the food I've given it a middle score. Do yourself a favour and avoid.
Jonny M — Google review
I rarely ever write reviews but I have something to share this time. As we were looking for a place to eat and I love the Greek cousine, despite many bad reviews here we decided to give it a go. Restaurant was full from about 75%. We were seated, ordered the drinks, recieved them in about 5 minutes, and ordered pita bread with tzatziki as a starter and chicken Souvlaki as a main. All good to this point. I was already done with my drink and neither staff ready for another order or the starter to be found. We waited for 1h 20m for the starter. Tzatziki was probably as delicious as if I would try to prepare them for the first time myself. But I'd still use some grated cucumber, which they didn't. Pita bread with no seasoning. Only salty thing at that moment was me at the table. After another 20 minutes we got main course. I've been to some very good Greek restaurants and some not very good ones. This, ladies and gentlemen, was a new level. Chicken Souvlaki, which didn't look like the chicken Souvlaki at all. Rice dodgy, meat dried to dead, slightly burned and no seasoning. Probably first time in my life leaving without the tip at all. Surprised with all the positive comments here. Bad staff, extremely slow servis, bad meal. And I don't think I've chosen "wrong meal" since the chicken Souvlaki you can get anywhere as one of the basic Greek meals.

This establishment specializes in serving authentic Austrian fare, known for its succulence and delectability. We got to the restaurant around 8 pm. The kitchen was closing at 10 as they are saying. We entered the restaurant, beeing welcomed by an empty room, just a table being occupied. They didn't even look at us when entering, and when we asked for a place , they told us everything was reserved. Now, you want to tell me that all the empty tables that were reserved, would have occupied in the hour and a half before the kitchen closed? Anyways, not a good experience! P.S: you might want to reconsider your answer, since all the bad reviews are you not giving tables to people😉

You can spend here a couple of hours and enjoy the so called Marmorschlössl and the gardens and feel the real Austrian history.

One of the best picture-perfect spots in the Salzkammergut region. Situated up on the brow of a small hill, the romantic cottage provides scenic views over the beautiful landscape and surrounding mountains. It is situated amidst the park of the historic Imperial Villa, the Emperor's summer residence back in the days of the Austrian-Hungarian Danube Monarchy. Lately, the interior got a professional polish, and now changing exhibitions of the federal state museum of Upper Austria linked to regional traditons and the history of the castle are on display. The current 'Dirndl' exhibition is a visual treat, so bring your camera.

Beautiful public park that was one the extensive English gardens of an imperial summer residence given to the young Franz Joseph I of Austria as a wedding present. Unlike the villa itself, the gardens are free to visit! Much of the charm of the palace is owed to its English gardens which is realised in an almost perfect form in in its Alpine setting of climbing hills and wildflowers. Great place for a stroll. Attractions include a white marble fountain by celebrated Austrian sculptor Viktor Oskar Tilgner and the iconic Lauscher (Eavesdropper), a sculpture given to Empress Elisabeth of Austria by Queen Victoria. Dogs allowed :)

Event venue
Trinkhalle Bad Ischl, built between 1829 and 1831 by Franz Lossl, is a protected historical site. Originally a drinking hall for mineral springs, it now serves as a venue for concerts and theater performances. Additionally, it houses a small tourist information center and serves as the starting point for city tours in Bad Ischl.

I seriously do not understand, why in a place called TRINKHALLE you cannot drink water as it was actually made for it 200 years ago. Do you have to commercialize everything? Its shamefull.

(Translated by Google) As the "Guest House," the Trinkhalle is now the town's cultural center and serves as a stage for various events. The Ischl Trinkhalle was built between 1829 and 1831. This original building was characterized primarily by its neoclassical forms, such as the colonnade and a cube frieze along the cornice. Two heavily glazed side wings were added between 1851 and 1853. The building was revitalized for the 2008 State Exhibition. The Trinkhalle has also been home to the Tourism Association and the Cultural Platform since 2008. The Trinkhalle's premises can also be rented.

(Translated by Google) Contrary to its name, the Trinkhalle (drinking hall in Hungarian) has a completely different function these days. The side hall is now a tourist information center and, as we saw from the equipment, perhaps a conference venue. The Corinthian columned entrance of the very imposing building, built at the beginning of the 1800s, attracts attention. It was originally a spa and a place for a special drinking cure. It is a great pity that at least the drinking well was not kept here (the new building of the spa is a few steps away), I think it would be a great tourist attraction if you could still drink spa water here today. The building is well maintained inside and out, in the hall you can find souvenirs of Ferenc József and Sisi and an interesting wooden statue of them. Only the four stars because there is no drinking fountain. (Original) A Trinkhalle (magyarul ivócsarnok) nevével ellentétben manapság egész más funkciót tölt be. Most egy turisztikai információs központ és ahogy láttuk a berendezésből talán konferencia helyszín is az oldal csarnok. Az 1800-as évek elején épült igen impozáns épület korinthoszi oszlopos bejárata magára vonja a figyelmet.

(Translated by Google) The exhibition ART WITH SALT & WATER in the SUDHAUS in the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl/Salzkammergut is very interesting for both adults and children. When looking at the exhibits, we are once again convinced of the close connection between salt and water and our dependence on both substances. Pizza Takeout
Pizzeria La Piazza is a charming and unpretentious spot that provides a refreshing change from the usual fare. Nestled in a tranquil alley, its interior exudes a cozy and adorable ambiance reminiscent of Southern Italy. Despite our brief stay in Bed Ischl, we managed to dine there twice during our five nights.
Excellent food!! We had pizza, spaghetti, chicken fillet and garlic soup. All were great and my kids cleaned their plate!! Will definitely come again to try other dishes!

Nice and cosy pizzeria. Service was fast even though we were a group of 7. The ambience is comfortable with nice garden tables. Food was good, nothing mind-blowing, but worth having a casual lunch.
Monetyasei — Google review
Very Poor Service and Disappointing Experience We had a very disappointing experience during our recent visit. We waited over 25 minutes for someone to take our order, and eventually, I had to walk up to the counter to place it myself. Despite requesting chilli sauce twice, no one responded, and I ended up getting it myself from another table. To make matters worse, our vegetarian pizza came with olives that still had the seeds in them — a basic preparation oversight that made the meal unpleasant. Overall, it was a sad experience and definitely not worth the money. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but this level of service and quality is unacceptable.

what a lovely down-to-earth, unassuming place! after a few days of sausages, schnitzel, french fries, we longed for our favorite cuisine - italiano. this place is tucked away in a quiet back street with cozy, cute interior which does remind me of southern italy. we went there twice (we are in bed ischl for only 5 nights) first time we ordered two pizzas, second time pasta dishes (spaghetti frutti di mare, and spaghetti aglio) although i would say the sea food pasta sauce was cooked differently from what we normally get in southern italy, it was equally delicious. and they have really good house red and very decadent desert as well (try warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream!) and everything is very reasonably priced!

Wide noodles are recommended, and barbecue is not recommended. Pork and chicken are hard and hard to chew, and the chicken is particularly salty. In addition, we were arranged to be far away, and the waiter needed to go to the front desk many times.

China-Restaurant Happy Dragon is a popular dining spot in Bad Ischl, Austria. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes including hot drinks, duck meat, sushi menus, rice dishes, and seafood. Customers have the option to dine in or order takeout from the establishment. While some reviews praise the food and service, others express dissatisfaction with both aspects. Despite mixed feedback, China-Restaurant Happy Dragon remains an option for those seeking Chinese cuisine in Bad Ischl.
It’s a 5 min drive from Katrin cable car in the market town center of Bad Ischl. We got salmon teriyaki served over a bed of vegetables (onions, carrots, broccoli, Napa cabbage, zucchini) and ordered a side of rice. They brought out a raised platform with a candle inside to keep the dishes warm while you eat. The salmon teriyaki was brought out on a sizzling hot skillet and really good. It wasn’t salty like other places, it was slightly sweet. I enjoyed this dish a lot.

Maybe I would recommend if : the ramen wasnt terribe also the chilli and sour soup … i got a package soup but it was supposed to be a “RAMEN” (they have pre-prepaired noodles, the waitres even told us that its package ramen and tht there is nothing to do wrong) and the soup did not have any taste. I know how Ramen actually tastes so I told the waiter that i wasnt satisfied, than the maybe owner or another worker came and she acted terrible ! She even screamed at me she was totally furious bc I complained … NOT SATISFIED AT ALL. My sis bought noodles with vegetable and it was pretty good but the customer service 1 out of 10 possible. The waitres was mad abt me complaining, it was 10,5€ for a package soup with a lil chicken, nice i could buy this in local shop w ramen packages for 2€! Also the soup chilli and sour or what is the name wasnt that good, the onion in the soup was totally burned. ABSOLUTELLY NOT RECOMMEND !!!! We had to pay for the nasty “ramen” (which was actually a package ramen) with too much water so it did not taste like anything. This is how you treat customers ? I dont think so! IT SHOULD BE STATED IN THE MENU THAT IT IS ACTUALLY A PACKAGE SOUP W SOME VEGETABLE AND CHICKEN EWWW Also your reviews talk for itself !

Very nice restaurant. If you are looking for some great chinese food in Bad Ischl this is the place to go. Beatiful location, you have a nice view of the river if you decide to eat outside. The staff was lacking a bit of English but they were very kind and helpful. The food was brilliant, exactly what you expect from a Chinese restaurant. The only thing I was not so happy with was the lichi juice with water. As the name sugests it's with water and maybe a little too much, so it was kind of tasteless.

Gasthaus zur Salzmühle | Bier- u Weinstube is a charming restaurant that provides a welcoming ambiance and delectable cuisine at affordable prices. With its lovely owners and adorable local guests, the atmosphere feels like home. The food is amazing, served by extremely friendly staff who cater to English-speaking customers upon request. Restaurant bar near the river where you can get decent food and a pint. Servers spoke English and the service was great! Loved their sausage in goulash but not a fan of their dumplings as the pickled veg (in the middle) was too salty for my liking and but they dumplings were normal. Cash only

Great Bar and amazing food. Loved the place and the beautiful people who run the place. We tried the dumpling and the Bergen Sausage and both were top notch. In addition we tried the Swiss Pine Spirit and it was so good we had 3 shots. Would definitely recommend this place.

A very friendly service and good quality food. It serves few dishes but quality and portions of the food is great. Price performance is great. We spotted majorly locals (more seniors) eating there, which is a good sign and explains that the restaurant has maintained the quality of their food.

Cash only. Very little parking around. Homestyle hole in the wall. First server was very grumpy and stinky. Second server was warm and kind—even with limited English. Soups were very hot and yummy. Fresh bread was warm and soft. Food was very good, especially the rump steak and goulash.

I think it's the first time that I'm writing a poor review in my life, and the only good thing of the all experience, was that we laughed so hard about the whole thing. First of all, as we walked in, we could see two dogs strolling in the kitchen so sanitary wise, I didn't feel super comfortable. We sat outside, with other clients, but we waited for more than a half hour only to order some drinks and food. After that, the drinks came quickly but we waited for an hour and a half to receive the food... only to receive something we hadn't ordered. My friends asked for vegetarian omelettes which came with ham... and on the menu, it was written it'd be served with a salad and potatoes which were completely forgotten. We just had a lame ham omelette on a plate... that's all... after more than an hour an a half... we complained and received a cheese omelette (finally!) but still with nothing else on the plate. I had ordered the grilled vegetables with the egg and potatoes and I must say it's the most pathetic dish I've ordered at a restaurant in my whole life... The veggies were barely defrosted, the egg cold and the quantity was not enough at all. They gave us one piece of bread for three people, which we eventually paid when we left... Friends who had came before told us it varies often and you never know what you'll get... On top of that, every staff member were quite drunk, which would explain why they kept forgotting us... They kept taking shots and drinks with the clients around us, which made us quite uncomfortable. Anyway, what a night to remember that we'll never go back there.
Orlanne P — Google review
Felt like a locals haunt. Small pub that was very busy, the bar was full. Got a table by the window and had a few drinks and apple strudel. We thought the prices were so good. Wish we had more time to come back! Friendly staff :-)
Rachael A — Google review
This unique place had a good atmosphere with locals and nice food. We rated this a 2, because our dining experience lasted over two hours and would not come back.
Justin B — Google review
Can't really comment on the food as after 20 minutes no one came to take my food order or give me the beer I ordered. So I left. After the waiter passed by 4 times each time saying beer like he suddenly remembered I had ordered it but instantly forgot, I did not see any point in staying.

I booked a room at this hotel for 190 euros but was shocked to find out upon checkout that I had been "upgraded" to a 250-euro room without my knowledge or consent. The only notification was buried in a link within the booking confirmation email, which is misleading and feels shady. While I acknowledge my oversight in not checking the link, it’s not standard practice to hide such critical information. To make matters worse, the "upgraded" room reeked of pet urine, which we reported immediately. The hotel's only solution was to suggest opening the window. Moreover, the room, for which I was charged 250 euros, had a view of an elevator shaft. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing and left a sour taste regarding the hotel's practices and response to customer concerns. Edit: Contrary to the owner’s reply message, the front desk lady informed me at checkout that I was upgraded because my original booking was in a room with a carpeted floor. Before making my reservation, I called the hotel to confirm that my dog was allowed, and the difference between carpeted and hardwood floor rooms was never mentioned (potentially this upgrade was due to my pet, as staying with a pet required a hardwood floor?) and the price was confirmed 190. While I did read my emails, after receiving the confirmation code, I didn't follow the link, assuming it confirmed the discussed price. I acknowledge this was an oversight on my part. However, although I received a clear email about the additional pet fee, it would have been much clearer and more transparent to send an email explicitly about the upgrade, rather than just a booking confirmation code with a link.

Comfortable stay and receptionist Oliver is the best! He was so helpful, friendly and engaging during our stay! Made us feel very much at home!
Wingfei ( — Google review
I will start with the clear advantages: Breakfast was great, really tasty, and a lot of choices. The river view from our balcony was amazing, and the location of the hotel itself is good, right in the city center and around 6 min walk from the train station. Now cons: We booked a family room but were contacted by the hotel with an offer to change to the superior double room at the same rate. We asked them to provide us with pictures of the room which they did not send to us but assured us that they look exactly the same as on the booking.com page. So we agreed as the room looked really nice. Upon arrival, we realised that this is not the room we were offered (completely different, quite old design). We explained the situation to the receptionist but no action was taken. We thought that they might at least delete coffee from our check out bill as an apology - but no. The guy at the reception was generally not friendly, no smile, nothing. In addition, a barman was quite rude to us on New Years Eve as well. All in all, the hotel's staff attitude (not all of them, some of the people were nice) made us feel unwelcome.

The hotel has really nice common spaces: the bar/breakfast is good, and the spa/room for rest is quite neat. However, our room was very unsatisfactory (quite small, windows in from of other people's windows), and the room service was very poor. The air conditioner was broken, and after the repair it started to leak, so we could not use it. We stayed for 3 nights, and our room was not cleaned a single time.

I had a wonderful stay at hotel Goldenes Schiff. I had a big, clean room, and there was even a little balcony with a lovely view over the river and decorated with some Christmas lights! I also made use of the complementary spa experience, and really enjoyed this option to have a full relaxation moment. The breakfast buffet is quite extensive and everything I tried was very tasty. The hotel is in close walking distance to the train station, which was also very practical (both when arriving/leaving, as when I made a day trip to Hallstatt). I was a bit disappointed that there was no kettle in the room, but when I inquired at the reception desk for a cup of hot water, they immediately provided a kettle that I could keep in the room for the rest of my stay. Overall, I certainly would recommend this hotel!
