Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Castello Reale di Sarre is an 18th-century castle that has been transformed into a museum showcasing portraits of the Savoy family and elegant period decor. The castle's central tower is the only remaining original structure, and it was once a residence for Italian royalty, particularly used as a hunting lodge by Victor Emanuel II. Visitors can explore its grand architecture and learn about its historical significance through informative guided tours. Additionally, the castle offers stunning views of its surroundings.
The royal family's hunting lodge, according to the guide, was used for about two months of the year, but it helped the locals survive in difficult times, as they had to work hard to open about 300 kilometers of safe roads to allow the king to travel between base camps to hunt. The first floor houses royal objects and the second is a museum with ibex and chamois trophies. Interestingly, electricity and heating were installed around the house for the comfort of the family. Dogs allowed in a carrier. Large groups on weekends, book in advance. We recommend purchasing one of the many Valle d'Aosta Cards to visit all the sites and castles.

Umbert I Savoia's hunting lodge. Very informative guided tour. Castle offers great views too. A bit of a shock for animal lovers though.
Richard Z — Google review
Excellent views of the river and mountain valley in two directions from the castle.
Eric S — Google review
Not sure why it’s called a castle. Quite small. Grounds are peaceful to walk around and the view is beautiful. Not worth a dedicated trip though.
Galya A — Google review
Excellent castle to learn about the Savoy family. One room contains the most ibex and chamois antlers and is interesting to see.
Sarah T — Google review
To see more than the ground floor, you take a guided tour for €8, which runs fairly often and takes about half an hour. I found the history of the kings of Italy who used it as a place to go to hunt interesting, as it was full of portraits of the Royal families. The hunting trophies forming the decoration of the main hall were quite remarkable,
John K — Google review
Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto II are the two kings who enhanced and enjoyed this sober-looking residence the most. The Sarre Castle which can be visited today is located not far from Aosta. A Castle that tells of the boundless passion for hunting of these two Kings. The primitive existence dates back to 1200. The gallery is the hall of honor with a strong impact with skulls of hundreds of Chamois and thousands of Ibex horns, over 3,600....
Luca B — Google review
Stunning castle, really well preserved and maintained, much better seen with the guide explaining the upper floors. Convenient parking just 5 minutes walking distance. Definately a must do if passing by Aosta or the valley.

Nestled amidst the stunning Alpine landscape, the Cave des Onze Communes Soc. Coop. is a true gem of the Aosta Valley, where tradition and innovation harmoniously intertwine to produce exceptional wines. Located at the foot of Mont Blanc, this cooperative winery spans 60 hectares across 11 municipalities, showcasing a diverse range of local grape varieties. Visitors are welcomed by knowledgeable staff who are eager to share their passion for winemaking and guide you through tastings that highlight both classic and unique offerings.
A large Aosta valley winery, they have their own shop where you can taste most of their wines and of course buy Very friendly service, you can see that they feel proud telling about their wines and winery
Andriy S — Google review
A great winery, selling only local wines from the Aosta Valley, both whites and reds. Unique grapes as well as regular
Amit O — Google review
A nice place with wine tasting and sales. Also they would make a cave tour for groups of 10+ people. Nice wine. Their higher-end (20+ euro) wine is sold only in their network and in the restaurants, not in supermarkets. And the common ones - 7-10€- costs here around 2€ cheaper than in local supermarkets
Stanislav I — Google review
Wonderful wines and courteous staff. We tasted all the torette - eventually bought the Superior granite. Wonderful!
Oshri M — Google review
Had a great experience while visiting Italy! Some things to note: you .must make a reservation. We stopped by in the morning and came back at 5. Had a 1 to 4 person tour of the cellar...really cool....the winery has been part of a local cooperative since the 80s and had a lot of modern equipment. Wines were excellent. They have high tech stainless steel equipment but age certain wines in barrels...and get this, they age certain wines in granite from Monte Bianco...crazy...the wine tasting was excellent and casual. We paid $20 euro..although we bought a bunch of wine at the end.....worth the extra effort!
Rex E — Google review
Fantastic wine cooperative and lovely to see all the old machinery and equipment and watch the local people bringing in the harvest. We came here two years ago and really enjoyed our visit although this time the lady serving was a bit grumpy and not very inviting - which was a shame as we spent quite a lot of money on wine.

(Translated by Google) We arrived without a reservation, but Mr. Davide was exceptionally kind, welcoming us with great enthusiasm for a tasting of wines from the Cave des Onze Communes winery. We had the pleasure of sampling seven wines, both white and red, which allowed us to discover the excellence of quality winemaking in this unique mountain region. An authentic, educational, and truly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended! Consigliatissimo!

Sights & Landmarks
Museum
Nestled in the picturesque Aosta Valley, Castello di Aymavilles captivates visitors with its enchanting fairytale-like architecture and four majestic towers. As you approach from the highway, the castle's striking square lines draw you in, inviting exploration. The journey begins in its beautifully landscaped gardens, where you'll discover how various owners have transformed this once formidable fortress into a luxurious residence filled with fascinating collections and family photographs.
Beautifully restored castle owned by the same family over centuries and now by the Aosta region. As with other castles in the Aosta valley owned by the region, the most recent renovation that started around 2000 is beautiful and what is shown among the many objects from the region requires you spend quite some time here. You can rent an audio-guide in the ticket building that you pass on your left hand side when entering the metal gates close to the parking.
Sebastian R — Google review
From the highway you can already admire the imposing square lines with the four towers that merge into what looks like a fairytale castle. The visit begins in the gardens, where you can see how the many owners have renovated it, transforming it from a fortress to a luxury residence, with numerous collections and photographs of the families who lived there. The video on the fourth floor is interesting, illustrating the structural changes and 3D models of the castle. The audio guide reveals hidden corners such as the "fake" ceiling of the cathedral and the paintings of the owner's daughter along a room. Dogs allowed in a carrier. It is recommended to purchase one of the many Valle d'Aosta Cards to visit all the sites and castles.
Jefferson A — Google review
The only good thing are the exterior views which are beautiful. Don’t waste your time with the interior, a complete tourist trap / rip off. Small sparse rooms with everything pretty much restored. Interesting relics are behind extremely reflective glass / not dark room so you can barely see them. 10 euros for entry, but should be like 2.
K A — Google review
Our dogs friends not allowed 🥺🐾 but with the crazy hot 🥵 we stay out in the tree shade at the garden . Nobody come to complain. Parking 🅿️ around is free with parking disc.
OnlyRider A — Google review
This charming castle, once a holiday lodge in Aymavilles, outside Aosta, is run by friendly and efficient staff. It is well kept, inside and outside, even the grounds are well kept. Apart from the lovely rooms, on different levels, there are some wonderful collections, including Roman remains, a small collection of oriental and religious objects, a small collection of swords, periodic furniture and various other artefacts and a most interesting presentation area about the building’s history on the top floor, where one finds the castle roof supported by an awesome structure of wooden beams. Portable, multi lingual audio guides are available for a small fee. Clean restroom facilities. This is a multi-level building with a smooth lift, and therefore is accessible for every one. To note some breath taking views. Recommended.
Gerald L — Google review
A small fairly tale looking castle, nice to walk around. There is a tour but did not go inside as apparently no interiors were preserved, rather a museum telling the history. Nice stop when travelling in Aosta valley
Andriy S — Google review
At the beginning I didn’t want to go as the castle wasn’t so inspiring to me, but then it has been the most interesting and wonderful visit. There are spectacular landscapes, and people who work there very kind and friendly. Thank you for your warm welcome

Les Cretes Winery in Valle d'Aosta has a unique setting on the hillside, offering stunning views of Aosta and the region's beautiful castles. The vineyards are crisscrossed with walking paths where visitors can encounter farmers at work, beehives, and grazing cows. The winery's production benefits from the alpine environment, with a focus on environmentally friendly practices and specialized research.
A beautiful winery with amazing views of the valley which helped locate some of their vineyards. The wine tasting with matched cheese and wine was probably the most professional of tastings we did in Valle d‘Aosta and Colletta did an amazing job talking us through the different wines and their matching cheeses. It was particularly impressive that they were keen to tailor the tasting to the sorts of wines that we wanted to try whilst also proposing a few ideas. However, whilst all the wines were really good (and I am quite fussy) - trying the Nebbiolo is a definite must!
Alistaire K — Google review
A wonderful time at the winery! We took the tour and the tasting menu. The staff was highly knowledgable and welcoming. The wines are top-notch!

Not a very generous wine tasting, expensive at €20, especially since they charged for the tasting even though we bought lot's of wine after.
Joakim I — Google review
A beautiful winery with lovely views. They were kind enough to accomodate our large, English-speaking tour group (we called ahead to organize). We tasted wines, learned about some things that make their products unique, visited the cellar and left with wine. It was a real treat! Thank you!
Sarah H — Google review
We booked a tasting at Les Cretes and had a lovely time! The tour was extremely informative, not only about the winery itself but also about the region! The wines were also all amazing!

I've been selling Les Crêtes' wines for many years and always book visiting clients a winery visit and tasting. This is a complete experience, from the scenery to the magnificent tasting rooms, to the excellence of the wine in the glass. We are never less than warmly welcomed and given a professional and detailed tasting. Thank you to Monique and everybody at this iconic winery.

My girlfriend and I experimented the 5 glasses wine tasting experience. The guys who have taken us through the journey have done a great work, very good description and storytelling Personally i really enjoyed the Petite Arvine Fleur among the white wines and the Nebbiolo Sommet, very elegant and soohisticated. A special mention for the Fumin, very interesting and particular. It reminds me about the sicilian red wines tipycal of the Etna area. In the picture, a nice view from the terrace

The culinary experience is overseen by Chef Jeannot, renowned for his award-winning creations.
We booked spontaneously to get out of camping in the rain. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, who promptly turned on the sauna & jacuzzi (good value at 15€ pp) which we had all to ourselves. Friendly breakfast with good coffee. Owner gave us good hiking tips for the next day. Only drawback was a lack of vegetarian options for dinner, so we ate down the street. Quiet at night despite proximity to autostrada, beautiful morning view. We will come again and highly recommend this hotel.

A very nice small hotel, beautifully situated on a hill, with a magnificent view on the valley and the little castle close by. Rooms are clean and tidy. Remi and his family bring the best service, attending to your every need. Enjoy the quiet, cool garden to read your book, catch up with work or have a cold Aosta wine sitting at the table under the old Kiwi-tree. If hiking is your thing, make sure you ask Remi for the best possible hikes and places to go. You cannot choose your dinner, but the hotel brings a nice three course meal every evening, asking you in the morning about your possible preferences. We certainly will be back!

Thanks go to the owners who have always given us excellent advice to make the most of our holiday. (Original) Ho soggiornato per tre notti in questo hotel con il mio compagno. The Hôtel Ristorante Pizzeria Château is a relaxed hotel with simply furnished rooms that offer stunning mountain views. The establishment features a restaurant and pizzeria with a very good menu, serving delicious food. The hotel has moderate pricing and creates a friendly atmosphere. However, one downside is that the temperature in the rooms can become uncomfortably hot due to central regulation, but this can be resolved by opening the windows slightly to adjust the temperature accordingly.
Restaurant review: We were there with a big group but despite that they managed us perfectly. They have a big variety of pizza’s and pasta’s and let you customise them however you like. The pizza’s were baked almost perfect and came right on time. Note that it’s better to go there during the evening as there is more options.

There are limited surroundings what you could visit. Some restaurants and wine bars, but the restaurant inside had a very good menu as well. The food is very good. The hotel is neither cheap nor expensive. The only downside is that it gets very hot in the room because the temperature is regulated outside of the room centrally. You have to open the windows a bit to actually get the room into a more appropriate temperature.

Ristorante Trattoria di Campagna is a historic gem along the state highway from Aosta to Mont Blanc, offering a spacious parking lot and charming open-air dining during the summer. The decor is simple yet well-organized, with owner Maurizio ensuring a warm welcome and providing insights into the daily specials. The restaurant's ambiance exudes rustic charm, with friendly service akin to a family home rather than a formal establishment.
This restaurant is amazing. The service is like a well-oiled machine - everyone has a role and the restaurant runs smoothly because of this. The food did not disappoint either and the dessert cart was GREAT! The only issue was the parking lot - it is extremely tight when the restaurant is in full swing and not easy to pull out of (even in a Fiat!)

Beautiful place with convenient parking. Friendly staffs with no English issue. Spacious and clean. Service was great where staffs make sure the portion were shared as we requested. Food were hit and miss. I was impressed with the blue cheese gnocchi, highly recommended, good for sharing. The lamp chop with mashed potato were a bit unexpected, especially that the lamp chop were deep fried in cheese coating. Not exactly to our asian palatte. Grilled trout had really flavourful almond sauce and I love it if I wasn so full from the gnocchi 🥹. For asians, as the food portion were quite big, recommend to order moderately. Staying at a partner hotel, we were given 10% discount. Then there was option to give compulsory 3%-20% tips/service charge at the end. This place was open on Monday evening, not very crowded.

We booked a wine tasting and a dinner separately, but due to circumstances we combined it. Reservation is recommended. The trattoria is a family business and serves local specialties. We went all out the Italian way with antipasto, primo, secundo and dolce. Each course accompanied with a local wine, with explanation from the head sommelier. The food was really good, staff was kind and punctual and English speaking .

Incredible restaurant with delicious food and lovely staff. Recommend to book ahead as day before they only had the one table, but definitely worth it! We each ordered primi, secondi and dessert with wines hence the price but is reasonable for the quality and taste.

Perfect food and environment. The food and the wine were excellent also the deserts. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Pont d'Aël, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to MESSAGGERI ALATI Centro di Falconeria. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Bridges
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Pont d'Aël is a Roman bridge that was once part of a six-kilometer aqueduct built around 3 BC to supply water to the colony of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, present-day Aosta. The bridge stands 66 meters above the valley floor and features a roofed control corridor. It is now a popular hiking trail in the Aosta Valley, offering stunning mountain views. Visitors can walk over the top where water once flowed or through the tunnel below.
Must visit bridge if you are around Aosta and have a car. You can go on the upper path of bridge any time of day and enjoy the view. For the lower path that is inside the bridge, you have to buy a ticket.
Güher F — Google review
Ancient Roman aqueduct bridge, built by a private individual. Great point for taking photos. Being at the end of a road on top of the hills, avoid it on rainy days. Dogs allowed in a carrier. We recommend purchasing one of the many Valle d'Aosta Cards to visit all its sites and castles.
Jefferson A — Google review
Roman stone bridge/aqueduct constructed over 2000 years ago across the most narrow place of the Grand Eyvia river running down the valley from the Gran Paradiso national park. As usual with sites owned and operated by the region of Aosta, old and new architecture are beautifully integrated. You cross a beautiful traditional village on your way from the parking to the bridge.
Sebastian R — Google review
This site offers a pleasant view of natural scenery. While purchasing a ticket and entering may not be a life-changing experience, I believe it’s still worthwhile. It’s a simple yet satisfying way to support the local community and enjoy a small, peaceful moment as part of the area’s charm.
SY R — Google review
Great views of the river in a gorge, the forests and snowy mountains in the background. The bridge itself is very impressive as it is over 2000 years old from the Roman period. A quiet and beautiful village nearby, with plenty of parking. As it is nearby to the main road, I would very much recommend stopping there.
Amit O — Google review
Remarkable historical feat of engineering immersed in dramatic natural gorge.
Emily B — Google review
So old and still there. With the original signs on it. Amazing engineering. Pretty as well.
Annemarie D — Google review
Very interesting walk over aqueduct and back through pedestrian passage. Lots of great information about construction and why built etc. 5 euro was worth it plus scenic spot.

Rafting Republik in Valle d'Aosta provides an exceptional 5-star rafting experience. Located on the Dora Baltea river, this adventure is perfect for both beginners and experienced rafters. The comprehensive training ensures safety and teaches techniques to navigate the water effectively. All necessary equipment, including suits, towels, socks, and shirts are provided to ensure hygiene.
If you’re looking for an amazing water rafting experience, this is the place to go! Everything about the adventure was top-notch from start to finish. Francesca was fantastic—she was charming, funny, and gave clear instructions. I felt really lucky to have her as my guide. The whole team was incredibly friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work and each other’s company. I highly recommend this tour. You won’t need your phones since they’re not much use on this ride. The team has a photographer and offers GoPro footage that you can buy at the end of the tour. Just focus on enjoying the moment and having a great time!

Very nice experience! We did the "Complete/advanced" tour with guide Chris. The guide was the best: instructive, funny and made sure we had a great time. The rafting was fun and adventurous but not very difficult so everyone can do it I think. Great company and would recommend 100%!

Best experience of our trip to Italy! Very professional and the guides were the best!
Ted W — Google review
Rafting with Rafting Republik was definetly 5 star experience. We rafted on the Dora Baltea river near Aosta on April 2019, it was my first experience. I have been given a fast track training before going on the water ( basically how to stay safe on the raft as well in the water if fell by accident). the suits and every thing else is provided, think of a towel, a pair of socks and a tee shirt to wear underneath the suit (for hygiene). before starting the experience you can just relax in the centre base which is a beatiful green area surrounding a lake; you can swim or have a snack in the foodbar. an hour rafting is 40 euro per person for the classic type (for kids age 8 years and more). I have become addicted to rafting since then. Thank you Rafting Republik.
Leila — Google review
Very professional team, and a fantastic experience. We went with our kids (7 and 9 years old), who had a great time in the front of the raft. Highly recommended!
Joost H — Google review
We had a fantastic time with Rafting Republic! We were two adults and two teenagers and chose the family rafting experience — it was pure fun from start to finish. The safety instructions and a short explanation were given in English before we started. On the boat, we were paired with an Italian family, and our instructor made sure to give clear directions in both Italian and English. It's a perfect activity for a hot day — refreshing, exciting, and surrounded by beautiful nature.

They made me make the bank transfer but I wasn't told that the vouchers would have an expiry date. In practice I gave him 100 euros. Not very serious. (Original) Brutta esperienza. Ho telefonato per acquistare due buoni da regalare ai miei figli per i compleanni. Pizza restaurant
La Maison de la Pizza is a central location offering both a pizzeria and a restaurant with a wood-fired oven. The menu features traditional Valdostana and homestyle cuisine, available for dine-in, takeout, or evening delivery within the Gressan to Saint-Pierre area. Guests praise the owner's availability and the delicious food served by polite staff. The establishment is known for its clean facilities and flexible hours, accommodating walk-ins when possible.
The place is amazing! Pizza is good, prices are good, desserts are delicious. Highly recommended.
Maria K — Google review
Shortly after we arrived and chose our pizza, a big group from the nearby church came. Unfortunately, they were served drinks and food before someone came to us. We ordered two pizza and a salad with gambas that was more expensive than the pizza.. The pizza were ok but the salad was a joke and tasteless. We stopped eating the gambas (cheap frozen food quality btw) as one looked like some other animal already chewed on it. I can definately not recommend this restaurant as the service is bad and the food barely regular.

Restaurant
Nestled just a stone's throw from the castle, Old Grizzly is a charming family-run restaurant that beautifully marries traditional cuisine with modern twists. The menu showcases an array of dishes bursting with elaborate flavors, making it worth the slightly higher prices compared to nearby eateries. Guests can enjoy local wines while dining on a cozy terrace that’s heated and covered for comfort from April to October. The attentive staff are not only friendly but also multilingual, offering menus in both English and French.
Varied menu and very tasty food. Super recommended! 👌
Veronica G — Google review
Eatery with ambitions that are not matched by what and how the food is served. I'm always deeply concerned when ordering my filet steak blue and receiving it well done and when the waiter just shrugs his shoulders making me feel I should just get over it. Sprinkling flowers over the dish does not hide the sloppy way the food is dressed on the plate. Overall a clear deception and room for improvement.
Sebastian R — Google review
The staff who works there are really kind. They accommodated our very large group of 15 and made the table very cute for us as we were celebrating a birthday. The whole atmosphere was very country and cosy. The menu had a lot of choices but the best dish was definitely the venison with blueberries. It was perfectly cooked! The Bolognese was okay, kind of underwhelming compared to the venison filet. I enjoyed the carpaccio, but the escargot was drenched in butter which is normally good but the size was so large so it wasn't my favorite. The ratatouille was seasoned well and nice additions of fresh vegetables. The chocolate cake they prepared was delicious and the wine offerings superb. Overall great experience, would be happy to come back!

Do not be fooled by the tourist-trap sounding name, this is one of the best restaurants we have been to in Val D'Aosta. Super efficient service, excellent food and parking available. Prices are somewhat elevated but the quality of the service and food has nothing to envy any other establishment.
