Fortress
Visegrád Castle, also known as Visegrad Citadel or Upper Castle, is a 13th-century fortress situated on a 333m high hill. Visitors can explore small history exhibits inside the castle and enjoy breathtaking views of the Danube Bend. Accessible by bus or a challenging uphill walk, the castle offers various attractions including medieval exhibits, live music performances on Saturdays, clean restrooms at the top, and souvenir shops and food options at the bottom.
Really worth to do the hike from Visegrád until the castle and then down back to the village. Nice walk in the nature and also you can see the small, but interesting exhibitions in the castle itself. While up there a beautiful view opens up before you. It is the nice panorama. Such lovely area

The best way to visit the castle is by hiking—it makes the experience even more rewarding! The castle itself looks amazing, surrounded by the beautiful Danube River and stunning mountain views. There’s a lot of history and information to explore, making it both scenic and educational. A wonderful place to visit and highly recommended

Visegrád Castle, perched above the Danube Bend, is a 13th-century fortress once home to Hungarian kings. It offers breathtaking river views, medieval architecture, and a glimpse into royal history. It was almost four in the afternoon, and the sun was shining on the Danube, which was matched with the golden mountains and forests. It was really beautiful! The classic U-shaped bay, paired with the roaming river cruise, is really beautiful😍
SOFIA C — Google review
Castle on the top of the hill. Recommended to use paid parking close the the castle. Its not expensive and its few steps to the entrance.castle is without guide, in more levels. Some rooms are equipped with wax figures. You can pay by card.
Radek D — Google review
Amazing view and a lovely tour at this historical landscape. Walk in the footsteps of Kings and Queens enjoying the athmosphere of medieval Hungary and the breathtaking view from the citadel.
Tamás V — Google review
Historically great highlight, and despite the moderate size and condition (quite some parts are rebuilt from scratch) I loved that administration established enough interesting exhibitions and info to entertain the tourist. Plus, of course, the view of Danube adds a ton to the atmosphere.
Arkadiy — Google review
Awesome place to visit if you are around Budapest aznd have a day off. The castle is very well conserved and there aren't so many around. If you visit on the last Sunday of the month, for families the entrance is free. The view from up there is amazing and it is very quiet all around.

We took a boat from Budapest to Visegrád, about 3 and half hours on Daunbe river, we booked with get your guide return.we had about 5 hours in the city. We took hop on hop off bus 1000 HUP, get dropped at the bottom of the hill, we walked about 10 minutes to the castle, entrance 2000 HUP. Very nice view of the city. There are several rooms showing how people lived back then.

Located in the Danube Bend, the Panorama Lookout offers stunning views of the river and Visegrad. It's a popular spot for tourists seeking to capture incredible pictures and enjoy beautiful sunsets. While parking can be a challenge, it's worth it for the breathtaking panorama. Whether you're taking a leisurely river walk or looking for a romantic date spot, this lookout is sure to impress with its super nice views.
Very popular place among tourists - it was a little bit hard to park a car ;-) but we had got our place and made incredible pictures!

This place was absolutely beautiful. Stunning views and a really good curvy road up the hill. Theres a couple parking spots but a lot of times its full! But dont worry at the top of the hill theres a big parking lot and theres a look out, you need to pay 700ft/person! Theres a bob track too. I would highly recommend 10/10! Will go back!!

It has been quite a while since I hiked up the hill to the Danube-Bend Viewpoint. I took a train from Budapest to Szentendre and then a bus from Szentendre to Visegrad. I got down from the bus at 'Hotel Var Kastelyszallo', about 1 km before the Visegrad town. There were some steps near the hotel, from where the hike started. I walked past the lower castle (Salamon Tower) towards Siblik hill and then followed the 'Mogyoróhegyi Természetismereti Tanösvény' (Nature Discovery Trail). Being the only hiker in that tranquil forest...I could have got lost.😮 But I didn't.🤪 There was a signage board on the way but it was all Greek and Latin for me.😃 I really enjoyed the whole-forest-to-me walk, admiring the many beautiful wood carvings and a 'Szekelykapu' (a traditional carved wooden gate) on the way. After hiking leisurely for about 5 km, I reached the upper castle to have a splendid view of the Danube Bend and its surroundings. I returned via the cute Visegrad town, passing by 'Saint John the Baptist's Church' on the way. Oh yes, I also made friends with a majestic falcon at the upper castle. 😜

Best place to see a beautiful sunset. Just make sure that you arrive in time since the parking lot is quite small.

Wonderful view of the bend in flow of the Danube and with a view of forested areas

Great. Most of the time the parking lot is full. But you can park on the side of the road where it’s wider. Evenings not a big problem

History Museums
The Museum of Matthias Rex is a historical site located in a royal palace that was originally built in the 13th century for Hungarian kings. Visitors can explore the palace and its surroundings, including the Visegrad Castle and the interactive King Matthias Museum, which often hosts reenactments and medieval tournaments. The museum offers boat trips on the Danube, providing a relaxing way to learn about local history and wildlife while enjoying picturesque landscapes.
We visited this place on Sunday, May 29th. It was part of Danube bend tour from Budapest. It's a castle. Our tour guide explained the history of King Matthias. The Hercules fountain was really beautiful. My little kid really liked it. The premise where the fountain is located is very very nice. It's located in Visegrad on the bank of Danube.
Siddiqui A — Google review
Lots and lots of information, some of the rooms are reconstructed in period setting, the grounds are nice and there is a bit to take in. Nice enough.
Jarrod H — Google review
The palace is at the bottom of the castle. The access is not expensive. There are several walls left standing, most of the place is actually reconstructed. Nothing interactive. Moderately interesting, worth a visit, but nothing not to be missed.
SVC — Google review
Great palace! Lovely views and well done from a restoration point of view - enough to help our imagination but not too much so it appears like a medieval palace was built in the 21st century. Dissappointed that there was no Audio Guide available or maps/ locality guides with information about the various displays (despite Audio Guide signs all throughout the Palace).
Ingeborg R — Google review
Plenty of space to roam. Lot of interesting small items hidden in the exhibition.
Bence A — Google review
Was a bit of an adventure to get there. Had to take the Underground train, then a bus, and finally walk from the street here. The history is amazing, was actually covered under a landfall for many years. RED MARBLE!!! During a weekday I had the entire experience and location to myself. Was worth the travel time to and from.

At first it looks like other ruined palaces, but back in 16th century it must have been one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe. The remains, reconstructed parts and some graphics help to imagine how it might have looked then. Beautiful late gothic and renessaince fountains on green courtyards.

Visegrád Royal Palace, located above the charming old town of Visegrad in the Danube Bend, is a centuries-old Italianate structure with a Gothic cloister and Renaissance-style loggia. Originally built in the 14th century under King Charles, it was later reconstructed by King Matthias Corvinus with late Gothic and Renaissance elements.
I was there during the local knight festival in July--lots of tiny little shops that sold pretty much every thing from knight gears to garden ceramic flowers and beer (loved the red beer). There were medieval exhibitions and performances on every corner of the castle and nearby it.
Thuggie D — Google review
Very chaotic exhibition with limited information in English. Rich on rooms and sideways. Great lemonade in bufet.
Viktor S — Google review
It was very interesting to visit this renaissance palace. The highlight is the Hercules Fountain in the courtyard. It is a combination ruin and partial reconstruction. There was a good overview of the history on signs around the courtyard. Other artefacts were on display in the rooms but I didn’t read all the signage. There were also some rooms with basic refurbishment. The garden was nice. We had 1.5 hours but could have done with about 30 minutes more. There is more here than the Salamon Tower and Citadel.

Here was the first EU parliament held in Europe🤣🤣🤣🤣 Back in 1335 kings from Hungary, Checz and Poland and many dukes like from Bavaria, Croatia, Teutonic order... gathered here and make arrangements for peace and trade in the area. Most important event of 14th century. The palace fell in decline after Turka defeated them in 16th century. They sure are making effort to restore it. U can see how palace was in three floors, royal chambers, kitchen, gardens. A lot od things are replica, like the fountains, but in the....dungeons there are originals....well what is left od them. In more recent history those three countries remade old friendships and there group in EU is called after this town, Visegrad.

Sibrik Hill

Fortress
The ruins on Sibrik Hill, standing at a height of 176m, are remnants of an ancient fortress constructed during the Roman Empire in the 4th century. These archaeological remains bear resemblance to the Ispani palace and hill, suggesting their similarity. The Ispan fortress was likely established by restoring Roman walls as early as the 11th century. It is speculated that King Solomon may have been imprisoned within this structure, as it predates the tower named after him.
A historical place with beautiful view.

(Translated by Google) This is a place suitable for overlooking Visegrád, but the view is not as broad as the viewing platform of "Danub's Knee" Car Panorama. Apart from that, there is nothing except a mound and the stone wall ruins of the old castle. It is worth noting that there are many small stones and mounds of soil on the top of the mountain, so be careful of falling when going up or down the mountain. There are only dirt roads, no boardwalks.

(Translated by Google) The Roman remains of the Ispáni palace and the Sibrik hill are essentially identical. The Ispán fortress was created with the restoration of the Roman walls, perhaps as early as the 11th century. And our King Solomon could rather be imprisoned in this, because in his time the tower later named after him was not yet standing.

Step into a bygone era at Renaissance Restaurant, located within the Royal Palace. This elegant eatery offers a unique dining experience with its Hungarian and international cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list to complement your meal. For those seeking a medieval feast, this restaurant provides an authentic experience with hearty meat-centric dishes. The attention to detail in the decor and ambiance truly transports you back in time, with elaborate decorations and costumes adding to the immersive atmosphere.
Excellent choice for a great meal! Huge portions, very well prepared dishes and a warm medieval atmosphere and also the props (medieval wardrobe and paraphernalia) for customers to assume medieval roles 😊. We were a large group and had a fantastic time role-playing and taking photos! On arrival two drummers welcomed us while announcing us 😊
Costas G — Google review
This historically-themed restaurant has surprisingly high ratings – which we honestly don’t quite understand. It might be due to the lack of competition in the area, but for us, it felt like a classic tourist trap. Prices are well above average (even compared to central Budapest), while the food itself was very mediocre. We were especially disappointed with the kids' meal options – or rather, the lack of them. There was only one fixed menu (soup, main course, and an ice cream sundae) for 4200 HUF, with no flexibility or alternatives. We sat outside on the terrace, so perhaps we missed out on the historic interior, and the period costumes mentioned in other reviews were not offered or visible during our visit. On the bright side, there was a coloring activity provided for kids, which was a nice touch – but overall, this visit didn’t live up to the hype.

Amazing culinary experience. Food is very delicious and comes in big portions. Service is excellent, staff is polite and friendly. You get a palace like atmosphere, being able to put on royal outfits, and you are also welcomed by a marching band. Recommend for anyone being into good food and good mood.

The best restaurant we visited recently. They told us we would need to wait for one hour for food due to crowd, but actually food arrived in 10minutes. Fresh, delicious, calm music, nice atmosphere. Staff working there was more than perfect. Helpful with recommendations for food🙂 Dog friendly, too☺️

My wife and I ate here as part of the package we got staying at Hotel Visegrad. They bused us from the hotel to the restaurant where we were met by a pair of drummers and led to our tables. The inside is beautiful and the staff was so beyond excellent. The experience was very personalized as if the staff researched as if their guests. It's meant to be a bit of a hokey and fun experience, but it's incredibly fun! This was definitely one of my favorite experiences in Hungary!

The eatery is situated on the first level of the lodging. The inside is captivating, offering a fascinating outlook. The service provided is satisfactory and the staff communicates proficiently in English. Although the menu isn't as extensive as desired, there are still diverse options available for selection, particularly when it comes to soups. However, some customers were not completely contented with their choices. Specifically, the portion size of pumpkin soup was surprisingly minuscule.
Perched high above the Danube, Silvanus Panorama Restaurant lives up to its name in every sense of the word. The sweeping panoramic view from the terrace is nothing short of breathtaking—rolling hills, the majestic river glistening below, and the medieval charm of Visegrád all laid out like a painting. It’s the kind of view that makes you pause between bites just to take it in again and again. The food here is equally impressive. Each dish was crafted with remarkable attention to detail, combining bold flavors with refined presentation. From the first appetizer to the main course, everything we tried was fresh, balanced, and deeply satisfying. It was the kind of meal where every bite felt memorable. Service, too, was top-notch. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely warm in their hospitality. It felt like they weren’t just serving us a meal—they were curating an experience. And then came dessert, which was truly special. Elegant yet indulgent, it was the perfect finale to an already flawless meal. Sweet enough to delight, but sophisticated enough to leave a lasting impression. Even after the plates were cleared, we found ourselves lingering, reluctant to leave the view behind. We simply couldn’t get enough of it—the combination of natural beauty, exquisite cuisine, and impeccable service made this one of those rare dining experiences that stays with you long after you leave. A visit to Silvanus Panorama Restaurant isn’t just dinner—it’s an unforgettable moment high above the Danube.

The best view in Hungary! Service was fantastic, and the manager was very professional. The burger was excellent, but the chicken with parsley potatoes was a bit too oily for my taste – probably wouldn’t go for that again. Still, we had a lovely time and really appreciate the experience!
Oldżi Z — Google review
The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The interior is interesting, the view is fascinating, the service is not bad, the staff speaks English. The menu is not as diverse as we would like, but you can choose dishes. We took soups. We were not very satisfied. A portion of pumpkin soup is incredibly small. Beef soup also seemed not quite traditional, there were a lot of carrots, although potatoes are usually added. Basically, it was delicious. It was pleasant that they brought a piece of bread with a spread while waiting for soup.

I enjoyed it very much. Beautiful view, tasty food with considered dietary limits. I had passion fruit lemonade, vegan chocolate cake and lamb. Lab wasn't cooked medium but rare.

Timea was an extremely kind and hospitable host who made us feel like guests. Although we did not spend the night at the hotel, we were fortunate enough to enjoy an amazingly delicious meal and wine. The views were unbeatable. We will be back, thank you!

Food was not that good. Lamb was rare, although it had to be medium. According to the kitchen, it was alright (they took the piece of meat to the kitchen to ask, and then took it back to us, saying it was alright, when it was red inside, so unprofessional, really. Service was not best, waiters do not arrive, when you want something. The panorama is beautiful, but this does not make up a good restaurant. Delusional. There are wasps flying around. Never again. Would not recommend! Disapponted!
Romina S — Google review
We always enjoy our stay at the hotel. We always take advantage of the 'half board.' Breakfast is good, the usual one gets at all European countries. Dinner is always great Hungarian cooking and good variety.
Jessica G — Google review
Generally I don't like to disparage a restaurant but if too many negative things happen I have no choice. Upon arrival we were shown to our table. Then after 25 minutes of waiting I waved to a waiter so we could finally place our order. After I pointed out the long wait, the waiter did not apologize but remarked snappily that at least we could order now... The starter was foie gras with toast...but it was cocoa cake...not good... My soup had only 3 pieces of meat even though I had ordered a wild meat soup...the parsnips dominated soup because there was plenty of it. 😃 I ended up ordering an arabiata...which was sweet 🙄 and the pasta was overcooked. So one problem I guess is ok but so much spoils the experience. They get 2 stars because the operation manager was a great guy and tried to fix this sad situation. Panirama was very good from terace of restaurant.

Szent Korona Bakery is a small bakery that has been open for just over a year. Despite its limited selection due to its location in a small town, the quality of their pastries and coffee is top-notch. Visitors have praised the delicious apple cinnamon roll that melts in your mouth and recommend it as a great stop before heading up the hill to the castle. The bakery offers good quality pastries and coffee at affordable prices, served with friendly and attentive customer service.
