Stazione Montecatini Terme - Monsummano

Railway services
Stazione Montecatini Terme - Monsummano is a popular stop for mountain bike and cycling tours, as well as trekking itineraries that connect the area with the rest of Tuscany. There's an appdead link available for major trekking and cycling paths. The station is easy to navigate, even if you don't speak fluent Italian, thanks to helpful staff who are ready to provide guidance when needed.
This station has been beautifully restored in the last couple of years. Hopefully they will be able to preserve it ( in the past was heavily damaged by vandalism).
Massimo M — Google review
As a tourist, I’ve used many public toilets during my stay in Italy. This one is the worst of them all. The machine doesn't give change, it only accepts 10, 20, 50 cents and 1 euro. The door to the toilet also didn't open when I paid. When I confronted staff about this they were unhelpful, unapologetic and unprofessional, speaking Italian back at me when asked to speak English. The train station itself may not deserve such a low rating but the way I was treated does so.
Antoni M — Google review
Audio notifications only in italian language. Management should think about english because of tourists
Anđela M — Google review
Toilets are dirty, lacking paper, seat and hand towels.
Marilyn H — Google review
A typically Italian scandal. A third of it is gorgeous. A third of it is locked behind gates and inaccessible. A third is literally in ruins, despite the two hundred dollars you will pay for a massage, body scrub, and mud treatment, all done expertly. And the shops had nothing in my size. It’s like the Italians don’t want their recession to end. In any case, well worth the six euro admission fee.
John C — Google review
Easy to navigate, even if you don't speak fluent Italian. The staff are really helpful and will help you if you need any guidance.
Elena A — Google review
Nothing here but a desolate café. Also make sure you don't need to use the bathroom! It was dirty and there was no toilet paper or even a toilet seat 😫🤢
Lucas — Google review
One of the small stations of Montecatini (the other being Montecatini Centro). There's often a delay arriving at this station from Pistoia as there's only one train track and if there's a small delay, the train will have to wait for another to pass before they can switch tracks.

Funicolare

4.4
(57)
Inclined railway station
The Funicolare is a historic and unique mode of transportation that has been in operation since 1898. It provides a striking and delightful ride to the ancient village of Montecatini Alto, offering breathtaking views along the way. The village itself is a charming medieval destination with narrow alleys and picturesque corners to explore. The funicular journey offers an incline that reaches steep gradients at certain points, providing an exciting experience for passengers.
I'm always up for a novel form of transportation, and this hits the spot. A steep railway, you can stand outside next to the conductor's spot, for the best views. Kids seemed to love it. Once you get to the top, excellent views, and you can wander up to the little village, or the other direction to a church tower (worth a wander for the unusual form of clock). We only needed about an hour to wander at the top, although there are shops and decent looking restaurants if you want lunch, drink or gelato. Long lunch break, so check the timetable before setting out. Unlike other reviewers, the toilets at the bottom were clean on my visit.
Colette — Google review
A great scenic ride up to Montecatini Alto. Try & get on the outside - front or back of the carriage for splendid views over the countryside.
Paul A — Google review
Pretty nice ride up. Incline is at the top pretty steep. If I recall some bits are 29% and 38.5% at the end. It costed 7 EUR for a round trip. Toilets at the start were disgusting. Clean toilets up on the mountain. It runs petty much every 30min though they do take a break for lunch. I think it could've been a bit cheaper. Went in an automated one which was 1.50 also in Italy.
Olav V — Google review
Closed till 22/03 for maintenance. One bus every hour very complicated to take.

The Museo Nazionale di Casa Giusti, located in the birthplace of poet Giuseppe Giusti, is a two-level museum with period furnishings and works of art on the first floor, while the second floor houses documents related to the poet's life and works. The museum also features a modern conference room. Visitors can enjoy guided tours by knowledgeable and friendly guides who provide insights into the history of the villa and its surroundings.
Our visit at the Museum Casa Giusti was a wonderful one: educational and entertaining! Our guide was very welcoming, polite, professional and passionate about introducing us to the world of the poet and his life. This is a great opportunity to be immersed in an authentic local cultural experience. The museum house of Gouseppe Giusti, one if the most important italian satiric poet lived during the period of the italian indipendence wars ( 1840 ca)
Nello C — Google review
(Translated by Google) The Museum was created to protect and enhance the birthplace of Giuseppe Giusti, poet and writer but also a man committed to the Renaissance values of Free Italy; politician elected by popular acclaim for a short period between 1847 and 1848; friend of Alessandro Manzoni and finally academic of Crusca. He graduated, with difficulty, in Law in Pisa in 1834, where he is best known for the bohemian life among lounges, taverns, billiards, theatres, casinos and above all the Caffè dell'Ussero, where he performed in "Scherzi" and "Rabeschi" to the applause and approval of the onlookers. Among the best-known poems are Sant'Ambrogio, where he declares his anti-Austrian ideas; The King Travicello; Gisella's Toast; The Memoirs of Pisa; The Papacy of Prete Pero, where he expresses a bitter anti-clerical satire; The Snail. Among the Prose Works are the unpublished Memoirs and a Collection of Tuscan Proverbs, posthumously. He died young, at just 40 years old, on 31 March 1850 (suffocated in his own blood due to the rupture of a pulmonary tubercle) in Florence in the house of Gino Capponi, a friend of the Poet. Today he is buried, still in Florence, in what is the Pantheon of prominent figures... overlooking the city, the Cemetery of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte. Casa Giusti was enlarged between 1791 and 1793 by Giuseppe's grandfather, Giuseppe di Alessandro Giusti, Minister and friend of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopold II of Habsburg. Giuseppe Giusti was born there on 12 May 1793. His father Domenico, a wealthy landowner, was cashier and administrator of the Terme di Montecatini between 1818 and 1861. Among the family possessions, a cave was discovered in May 1849, which later became an internationally renowned spa, thanks to Domenico, known as Grotta Giusti and still in operation today. The House, which is a National Museum, was purchased by the State in the 1970s and inaugurated in October 1992 after a series of works aimed at restoring the property. The visit allows you to revive, through the decorations, the ideal landscapes, the allegorical scenes of the decorations, the romantic climate of the first half of the 19th century. The furnishings also contribute to the climate, only partly belonging to the family, given the dispersion of the Poet's furnishings and memorabilia, but still consistent (they come from the deposits of Palazzo Pitti) with the refined and simple tone of a wealthy country family, as the Righteous were. The environment of the library, as evidenced by a 1900s photo, reflects the original character. Note the portrait of Giuseppe Giusti, the work of Giuseppe Bezzuoli, a prominent painter in the Florentine context.

The museum, which celebrates the poet Giuseppe Giusti, allows you to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the nineteenth century through the objects and memories of his life. Tiziano was able to capture the attention of the children of the 5B Italia Donati Primary school in Cintolese, with clear explanations adapted to their age, making the visit interesting and educational. The organization and care of the spaces are excellent, creating a welcoming and stimulating environment. An unmissable stop for anyone visiting Monsummano Terme! I saw the sign for Giuseppe Giusti's birthplace, and being a history and literature enthusiast, I took advantage of it. Unfortunately, the house wasn't fully accessible, especially the most beautiful rooms on the upper floors, due to renovations. What struck me most about this place was the extreme friendliness, hospitality, and passion of the receptionist and guide, Tiziano Angel Cassaro. He showed me the accessible rooms, explained the poet's story, and illustrated the various paintings in the main hall with enthusiasm and deep involvement. Finally, he gave me a brochure of the works on the upper floor and a small drawing by Giuseppe Giusti, signed by him. Truly an excellent welcome and professionalism.

Pizza restaurant
Pizzeria Don Mimi' is a hidden gem nestled in a charming Italian town, where I stumbled upon what can only be described as the best pizza of my life. The dough was light and airy, perfectly cooked to create an unforgettable base for their fresh tomato toppings. The warm and welcoming staff made our experience even more delightful, especially since we were not fluent in Italian; they graciously assisted us with the menu using Google Translate.
Wowwwwwww. Big wowww. To be honest I have never expected to eat the best pizza in my life, in some little town in Italy. It was just a coincidence to come here as we have accommodation near pizzeria, but it was pure destiny. Pizzas were amazing, dough perfect. Shiraz wine also great. Waitress was really kind and helpful as we are not Italian speakers. She was speaking English. We were sitting outside and just a complementary to the waitress. Owners should reward staff like this. We are staying here 7 days, so probably we will come back again. Also I have read some "bad" reviews from other people and I should just laugh out loud for such a poor comments. Keep doing the great work. Mega strong recommendation. 😁😁😁😁 UPDATE: We came back again and it was amazing again. I would like to recommend Pizza Zingara, oh man what a mix of different tastes.

We were staying in town and this was the first place we chose for dinner. We were blown away as this was our first experience with Italy pizza. Wow!! Soo good!! we got a Italian bottle of wine for €14 and it was delicious. The staff didn’t speak English, but we used Google translator and another customer in the restaurant helped us to figure out what to order as well. I wish we could’ve gone back another time as it was probably our favorite meal. Being from America, you expect a margarita pizza to be what you know here but it’s pretty much a cheese pizza. Also after having four different pizzas that week you realize that it is never cut, but it makes it that much more fun to tear apart. Cute place and atmosphere! Lastly, I like red pepper flakes, but they did not have it. However they did have a spray and I kind of wished I could’ve brought it home.

While it may not boast gourmet offerings or intricate recipes, its pizzas shine with quality ingredients and an exceptional tomato base. The friendly staff creates a warm atmosphere, making it an ideal place for families to gather without breaking the bank.
A jewel by the street. Tasty, excellent in its simplicity, this little pizzeria embodies what I love in Italy: friendly staff, good ingredients, great taste and the sun in Tuscany.

We had two cars, which there was only enough room for two cars. As I entered the shop I heard someone honking and screaming. I walked back out to see a man screaming at my brother to move his car. My brother apologized and immediately moved his car. The man then parked in the vacant spot but close to my car so I would had trouble getting into it. He got out and glared at me like he wanted to kill me. The owner of the pizzeria pulled him back and made him go inside. I asked if that guy worked there and he said yes. We immediately left. We had seven people and were gonna order 3 pizzas. To be fair, the owner was super nice but whoever his employee/son absolutely ruined the experience. He went full psycho because someone dared to park in his spot. We ended up finding an awesome pizzeria called Ristorante Pizzeria Da Caino La Cantina which was absolutely incredible.

(Translated by Google) UNACCEPTABLE experience at Don Panino. I never thought I'd write a negative review, but what I experienced at this place exceeds all limits. The name "Don Panino" is already misleading: they don't serve sandwiches because "they take too long." The sandwich menu is only available on Facebook, thanks to pop-ups and invasive cookies, making it practically inaccessible. The real problem, however, is hygiene. The bathroom is located in the kitchen, next to the fryer, with no functioning door amidst piles of items: the person cooking and the person using the bathroom are in direct eye contact (what if I needed to pee or something?). The sink is broken, and the water collects in a plastic tub where the mozzarella used to be. To dry your hands, there was only a single tear of paper from a paper towel roll, and the waste bin had to be opened manually because the pedal was broken. Deliveroo riders enter the bathroom through the food preparation area. It's a concentration of germs and health risks. Waiting over an hour for a pizza, in a practically empty restaurant. This isn't neglect, it's not a bad moment or a difficult day, it's dangerous. I wonder how it's possible that no one has ever said anything and no one has yet intervened. To the managers: close for a short time, fix everything, and reopen only when you can guarantee minimum safety and, above all, decorum. Under these conditions, staying open is irresponsible as well as unacceptable.

Our starters, Mason and dessert were all exceptional. The wonderful plating was matched by excellent preparation of locally sourced foods. Complimentary treats along the way completed a magical meal. It was so good to be here. I am just a traveler but fortunately I had a chance to have dinner with my husband here. I ordered some recommended dishes and we were pretty much satisfied. Servers are all kind and polite. They also recommended good wine to us. All the dishes we ordered were successful. I hope to revisit here someday.

We saw other reviews and ended up at the restaurant. I was dining with my 18 year old. What can I say. One of the best meals we have had, and the best in Tuscany! I was surprised by the attentive staff, well timed , beautifully prepared food. You will not be disappointed. One of the highlights of our trip!

My wife and I had an absolutely incredible dining experience at Pecora Negra in Montecatini. We opted for a seafood-centric meal, and every plate was a delight. Our server was exceptionally knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and expertly recommending the perfect wines to complement each of our courses. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the overall atmosphere made for a truly memorable evening. We highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic culinary journey.

Just finished the best meal ever during our time here in Montecatini Terme. The service was fantastic and very attentive. The food was amazing starting off with a complimentary shrimp starter. We had the seared scallops as an appetizer and had the steak Florentine which was more than 2lbs. I was a little worried as I saw in the menu that is was $70 eauros for 2 persons and I read someone’s review that said it was per person. Thank goodness it was for both my wife and I. Honestly I would have paid $70 each since it was so delicious. We topped the meal off with a recommendation of Tiramisu from our server who said it was her favourite and it didn’t disappoint at all. In fact all their desserts are made in house by their own chef. Did I mention the other complimentary things like a glass of Prosecco to start and some fantastic cookies and pralines at the end. If you’re ever in Montecatini you should definitely give this place a go. If I could give 10*’s I would 😀. Great price for everything you get.

This restaurant is a 5-star culinary experience! The food exceeded our expectations, the taste was amazing and the service was top notch. Everyone was really friendly, we got some amazing complimentary wine, entree and the cantucini in the end❤️ we had to treat ourselves by coming two times here during our stay in Montecatini since there was so much food we wanted to try and everything we had was amazing! The owner of the restaurant is also coming to every table asking how everything is and making sure that we had enough strascicate and you could feel the passion that she has for the place when you speak to her. This is honestly something rare to find and made our experience even better ❤️ can‘t recommend this place enough❤️

1. The staff was very friendly. The meticulous service was impressive, such as the staff and the person who seemed to be the owner coming from time to time to see if there was anything more needed. 2. We just ordered wine by the glass, but we were surprised by the high level of service, such as confirming the label and even tasting it as if we had ordered it by the bottle. 3. The taste of the food was very good. Everything was great, from traditional Italian food to modern and refined taste. 4. I was surprised that the price was not expensive. Honestly, I would be satisfied even if it came out more than 30% or 50% more than the bill I received. p.s. I have one regret. I live in Korea with my wife and traveled to Italy for 15 days this time. This restaurant raised our expectations too high. So we haven't had the same satisfaction at any other restaurant in Italy. We visited restaurants that were more expensive than this , and we deliberately found and visited restaurants that were well-priced and frequented by locals, but it was hard to be more satisfied than here. Throughout the trip, we were thinking of this restaurant again. Because we live in Korea, it will be difficult to visit again, but it will be a very memorable restaurant.

We had dinner at La Pecora Nera twice in a row because the menu showed too many good things to be able to try them in one session. The tagliolini al tartufo were amazing, as well as the ossobuco: super tender and tasty. The second day we had Paccheri with red shrimps, Anatra all’arancia (Duck) and octopus, all delicious. Hands down to the service as well, everyone has been super friendly both times we came, this place is definitely a staple destination whenever we are back in Montecatini again!!!

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with GROTTA MAONA bar-ristorante-grotta naturale-parco avventura, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Museo di arte contemporanea e del Novecento (Villa Renatico Martini). All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Grotta Maona is a captivating natural cave located on the road to Montecatini Alto, Italy. It offers an exciting experience for visitors, especially children, as it is the only cave in the country with two wells. The entrance well leads to a 20-meter deep and 200-meter long cavity adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites, creating an otherworldly landscape.
The best experience ever, with our guide who took us on tour of the cave even after closing hour. The place has it's special vibe and you should not miss it when you are coming to Montecanti Terme.

We walked here from our vacation rental up the hill for something to do. We were able to buy tickets for a tour at the bar and the bartender started the tour within 10 mins. Just us and 1 other couple. She took us through the cave for about 30 minutes and was very knowledgeable and spoke English and Italian. We then grabbed beers afterwards and watched the old folks dance party. Was super nice! Loved it

Nice 25 meter deep cave. Not compare it with France cave systems but a good small trip with kids and some nice features. 45 minute max tour led by a Ukrane woman that is really nice and speaks fluent English and Italian (maybe more). Building a treetop climbing experience next to the site. Not in use yet but will be fun with kids aswell so it looked already. I would go if your in the surrounding area, not worth hours drive though.

Despite our language challenge they always made our experience one without a hitch. The food was some of the best we have ever had. The quality of the ingredients was the game changer. We asked for a non menu item and it showed up beyond our expectations. No rush just a relaxed meal with our party and we felt with the staff. One more point - we didn’t know what to expect in terms of price but I can assure you we felt it was every penny. Ristorante Valdinievole Antica is a charming, family-run restaurant that has been serving up delicious, homestyle Italian cuisine for three generations. The staff are known for their warm and welcoming hospitality, making guests feel right at home. The menu features mouth-watering dishes such as pasta, pizza, and homemade prosecco and liquor. The atmosphere is simple and unpretentious, with a focus on providing excellent value for money.
This is a simple, inexpensive, 'no nonsense', no frills, wood-burning, homestyle restaurant, in it's 3rd generation, currently run by 2 brothers. One of the brothers is 'more direct' while the other is a 'sweet talker'. Once we got past the concept of 1 plate/2 plate or primary/secondary plate for 10 people, including 4 kids, in our party, then we could relax! Together, they make some amazing food. Every item we ordered was mouth-watering (pictured: spaghetti, gnocchi). This gnocchi could not be beaten in taste the entire trip. By the end, the brothers invited us again for some freshly caught, 'exclusive seafood' items!

My girlfriend and I traveled from Rome all day and were exhausted and looking for an inexpensive meal. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip and the best meal experience of our lives. The owners were the best hosts, with Giorgio showing us childhood pictures, telling us the history of their family and restaurant and bringing out course after course of homemade food and liquors. We had traditional food from the area and surprising entrees like roasted chicken and beans. He paired the wine for us and let us sample another with our appetizer. The meal was one of the most inexpensive in Italy and by far the best. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Il Maialetto is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable culinary experience. Guests rave about the exceptional quality of food and attentive service provided by the friendly staff. The chef takes pride in showcasing premium cuts of meat, allowing diners to select their preferred thickness for steak, ensuring it’s cooked to perfection.
My wife and I are traveling through Italy for our honeymoon and this was hands down the best dining experience we have had yet. We sat at the bar where you could view the barista and butcher at work. We had the ravioli with meat sauce and the pasta e fagioli soup to start. The most amazing soup I’ve ever had. If it weren’t a restaurant I would have licked the bowl clean. We then ordered the Florentine steak… it was the best steak I’ve ever had. The portion was so big we couldn’t finish but I sure did try my best. We also found our favorite wine of the trip here, steccaia costa tuscana bianco and I’m planning to order some back to the US now. 10/10 would recommend and will come back if ever back though Montesummano. We finished our meal with a cappuccino which capped it off perfectly. The service was amazing as well. Such a cool spot and recommend trying it if in the area

What a beautiful restaurant with unbelievably delicious food. We ordered the steak - which the butcher helped us select -, slow roasted pork, the meat and cheese platter and daily special of ravioli. Everything was perfectly prepared. You are able to purchase the meats on-site and they even can vacuum seal it to bring home.

Il Maialetto was overall pretty good! The chef was very nice. He brought out the full block of steak to show us the quality of the steak and let us choose how thick we wanted our steak. The ribeye steak was well salted and cooked to the requested temperature. We also ordered the pork with extra crispy skin and the tomato bread with prosciutto. The pork was very delicious, well seasoned and the crackling skin was amazing. The tomato bread was okay, the prosciutto was cut pretty thick and overwhelmed the tomato spread. My biggest "complaint" would be the fact that no English menu was available. We were able to figure it out with Google Translate, but it would have been nice for a restaurant on the Michelin recommended list to have an English menu available. Was a good experience, special interior and nice staff (especially the older guys was super sweet). The food was ok, BUT be warned that it’s haut cuisine and plates are relatively empty.

Another great meal at Just Meat! We had a really wonderful dinner last year while in Montecatini, and this year was even better. The cheese dumplings are extremely yummy. We had a wonderful dinner, good wine and great service.

This restaurant is not what I expected. It has a strange ambiance as it is in a hotel lobby. The food is not of the quality expected and I was dissapointed. I will stick to pizza next time

Via Segalare

Via Segalare is a historical site located on the slopes of Monte Albano, featuring Roman archaeological sites such as Villa San Paolo at Pozzarello and Vaiano. The settlement of the castle of Monsummano Alto dates back to 1260, but it is believed to have existed even earlier, possibly during the Lombard era due to its topology. The castle played a central role in battles between Florence and Lucca, ultimately being conquered in 1331.

Monsummano Alto

After exploring Monsummano Terme, visitors can take a journey back in time by ascending the hill to reach the Castle of Monsummano Alto. Originally owned by the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, this castle played a role in the 14th-century conflicts between Lucca and Florence before being conquered by Florence in 1331.

(Translated by Google) I got a "tasty" pizza, meaning a whole jar of raw tomato sauce with two tablespoons of mascarpone on one side, six olives, and three mushrooms. The result: half a pizza base with raw tomato, and the other half a pizza base with three kilos of tomato and little else toppings. Strange, because pizza is usually good, but this one is definitely not for everyone! Oh, home delivery took 15 minutes, so it was cold. I'd say cold raw tomato sauce is the best! So next time I'll go get one, maybe a cooked ham and mushrooms.

The menu offers a variety of Tuscan dishes including seafood antipasti, venison Ragu pappardelle, pigeon risotto, as well as an extensive pizza selection with gluten-free options. It was not good... It was Ahhhhhmaizeing. Best pasta 🍝, 🍖🥓 and steak that I have ever had in Italia (well Tuscany region anyway). The staff is beautifully cognizant of your every desire. I met 3 generations of handsome Italian men and it was lively and joyous. I am bringing my daughter there this Saturday night. I had to make a reservation, because it is tough to get a table. Pictures do not even do it justice. Perfecto in every way. I will bring my 2nd wife here one day. Just gotta meet her - Lololol 🔥🙌 Truly Top Chef and Top Shelf. I hear they will soon be bringing in Tecan tequila (but that's a story for another day). World 🌍🌎 🕊️✌️ and Prosperity. Mac

Would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area. My husband speaks enough Italian to order food, but with broken grammar and limited vocabulary - the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with the language barrier. The food was AMAZING! We had the tagliatelle, Florentine steak and house wine and I truly can’t recommend it enough. It was also very reasonably priced. Can’t wait to try the pizza tomorrow!

The food for all 4 people was extraordinary. We ordered the Florentine steak. No words can describe just how tender and amazing that dish was. We were also traveling with my grandson. They spoiled him, and I believe it was the owner invited him to take a tomato out of his garden, which he proceeded to eat like an apple. Wonderful wonderful selection of pastas and desserts.Highly recommend. Great food, wine and service. Definitely on repeat!

10 out of 10, the food, the wine, the view, the service, the music - everything was on the highest level! We celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday there and it could not have been better. We ordered the preset menu and enjoyed pasta with ragu, the steak paired with an excellent red wine, and a lovely dessert. Highly recommended and definitely a highlight in our Italian trip ❤️

Fabulous location obviously, but it's the owner and food that make this worth the trip. Just good traditional food cooked exceptionally well and the steak was fantastic. Added entertainment of the paragliders! A jovial host made the night and we will be back.

Wonderful restaurant! The host was so friendly and helpful. We had the most amazing meal and the views were first class. You should make a reservation, great destination.

Wonderful meal last night. I imagine the view in summer during a sunset would be wonderful but regardless it was still a great view. Lovely food, nice to try some different dishes like crispy polenta and chickpeas with gnocchi. The menus are good value and it's one of those places where you can actually manage a pasta course in between starters and mains. Only criticism would be on. Windy, cold night then the window should have been closed. Also, the fried egg and truffle starter was tasty but should have had a bit more to it for the price. Would definitely recommend though.
Lydia N — Google review
My husband and I stumbled upon this place while hiking and Furio (the owner) came out and invited us back for dinner. He and his wife made it special, making us their best suggestions (traditional Tuscan T-bone steak, pasta bolognese, zucchini and dessert) all so amazing! The view was beautiful and romantic. Perfect experience.
